Very friendly staff, great ice cream! Haven't seen mint chocolate chip since arriving in NZ. Would recommend.

Interesting concept. Slightly different take on ice cream. Little bit novel but expensive for what is basically normal icexcresm with extras

The service is great. The ice cream is superb. Me loves it.

Got all excited thinking I'd get ice cream rolls as seen on YouTube with other cold stone places ... Our server today gave us a sticky blob in a cup, didn't manage to chop the toppings up and missed the sauce topping off! Disappointing .. Will stick to Movenpic!
Isam Sattar
Best new ice cream parlour in town. Nice and friendly staff. I recommend 'Nuts About You' can't go wrong with Nutella.

After mush anticipation I finally made it to the Ponsonby store . I paid $8.50 for MnMs and white chocolate buttons mixed with ice cream . It was nothing like what we saw on line . There was no frozen shavings of ice cream / cream or ice in little scraped round things . I could of gone to the super market and pay less and got so much more .... And I like my puddies Sorry but Movenpic still has my vote

My favourite Dojo - choco chip mint ice cream with flake + nutella + choco syrup nom nom

Awesome service. . And bloody marvelous ice cream...

Highly recommended. Great ice cream and it's different than the usual.

Service was a shocker. For 7.90 each you might think you'd get st least one generous scoop of ice cream with your brownie/waffle. The girl used a flat spoon to scrape two measly bits of ice cream, and when I questioned it told me in a 'are you stupid' tone, "this is a large scoop". Really!!!?? No wonder the place was 'deserted' (LOL) on a Saturday night in Ponsonby!!!
Adarsh Chaturvedee
The store looks like an ice cream parlour which is a good impression in the first glance. The staff is very professional. The ice cream with KitKat crumbs was awesome. The price is very reasonable too.
Siddy
I used to love this cute little desert place but now their service isnt good at all. All the nice flavors seem to be always finished and the they dont add those generous goodies as they used to 😩I hope the management can train their staff bit more, do proper inventory of stock to make sure customers arent disappointed
Yeeun Jeon
this isnt stone icecream!!!!!!!! very disappointed and would not recommend to anyone!! also staffs were not in front to greet the customers . they were inside chatting and laughing when people were waiting outside to order.
Ice cream is fine. Nothing special about it. I went here with my partner and its okay. You can try once. They got photo booth that you need to pay as well.

We ate ice-cream here after a meal at Ponsonby Central. Terrific. Great. We'd had a few wines and needed an ice-cream fix. I'd recommend this place. Great service, yummy ice-cream.

I've been to something similar like this called 'Cold Rock' in Australia, so I got excited to see they had something like this in Auckland. It's okay. Nothing too fancy. It is cute how they have a photo booth machine that if you purchase ice creams you can use. But would be nicer to have more seating available inside so you don't have to take it away to eat.
Isabel
Cute little wee store with a funky photo booth but not worth it. We ordered two large ice cream and it taste old and melted. So unless you're into melted ice-cream then this is the place for you. We threw ours in the bin after 2 scoops.
Michelle Hwang
Had a stone ice cream in cup with a Group*n voucher there. Cutie small pink spoon with a heart shape. Price was lovely, taste was nice, and staff was friendly.

This place is good at a conceptual level. The actual ice cream is just above average. Cool interiors and lively kind of place. There are also many ice cream options.

Dessert Dojo is my family's favourite dessert haunt after hitting up Ponsonby for dinner. It's delicious, good quality, huge variety of combinations, and the staff are super friendly to top it all off. Keep up the good work!!

Considering the lack of dessert places in Auckland, I do really enjoy coming here, probably because its unique that they do cold rock ice cream and can mix whatever you want in it.

The ice cream flavours are really average though, I wish they had more interesting flavours, although they do have an extensive range of topping options. I love to choose my own toppings, my favourite would be vanilla ice cream, nutella, snickers and chocolate sauce... Yum!

I also must get a photobooth photo every time I visit, such a cool idea! Overall I give this place a 3.5 as its really just standard ice cream mixed in with things you could buy at any supermarket and make your own.
Zamily
Dessert Dojo is a good, affordable spot to pop into for a quick dessert. We visited with a group of 7 for some ice cream after dinner and had a wide variety of choices. These included all the standard choices of ice cream(cookies and cream, vanilla, etc), toppings(snickers, oreos, gummy bears and heaps more) and sauces(caramel, chocolate, etc).

These were all good and reasonably priced, ranging from $3.90 up to about $9. It was also a really fun place with a photo booth and ninjas(??) to chop up your dessert.

Underwhelmed by my experience. A friend brought me here saying they sell cold stone ice cream.. I was thinking of the cool stuff you get from a person chopping frozen berries into fresh cream rapidly, but the ice cream was actually premade. The guy working here was entertaining to watch with his agility of mixing ingredients into the ice cream. When it came to my turn I had a different staff member make mine and I wondered if that was actually the standard. All she did was squash it onto the slab and roll a few cookie dough balls into it. Where was the strength, care, or skill? Why did I pay $3.90 for this? I have no idea. Ice cream was nothing special. The edges were melted before she even gave the cup to me. No talent involved. Could have done this at home. I feel like the cold stone is an accessory which was underutilused in this case. It added nothing to the experience or quality of the ice cream. Basically a gimmick.
Justin Andrew
The experience here was refreshing as I haven't seen anything like it and is great for someone with a sweet tooth such as my self.

The selection of ice cream and sweets is awesome as well as service and location
L G
The ice cream tasted nothing special because it was already pre made but made extra ordinary with the cold stone. It was too sweet but was alright for the price because we bought it from grab one

I love this place! Ideal to finish a nice date night out with your partner or friends or have a snack before getting back to the dance-floor.
Service is always friendly and the guys are very patient and helpful with me every time I go. One of the fun parts of the experience is getting a free photo on the Dessert Dojo photo booth once you get your ice-cream.

I had many different kind of desserts here, all amazing. Last night I had the waffle for the first time and I was great. The waffle was cooked in the moment in front of me and came to me warm and fresh. It was crunchy outside but soft inside, really good.
Then there's the ice-cream, mixed with different toppings and sauces to make it spectacular. The ice-cream they make here is a little more gummy than the one in other places and this makes it a little different. I mixed my vanilla ice-cream with Nutella, almonds and maple syrup and the mix was awesome.

Totally recommended place to go with your children, partner or anyone who just feels like some real good ice-cream.

Ice cream with a twist .Small place but a bit different and interesting. Not a 100% stone ice cream, actually the ice cream is already ready it's the toppings and the sauce which is mixed to the ice cream but it does taste nice. Staff was friendly and to end with not bad when you spend $9 and above photo booth is free. For sure will visit again.

Love love love a good old dojo date (: perfect place for a good dessert, hangout and take some photos as well. They have a great variety of icecreams you can try either plain or mixed with your favourites (: love it

Dessert dojo is really something different! Love the concept of this place. Sweet tooth or not there Is a large range of flavours, and plenty of options so there is something for everyone! You can pick one of there flavours or you can create your own.. Then they combine it all together on a cold stone plate. Price wise it's similar to other gelato and icecream joints. The icecream is rich and creamy and the toppings are authentic confectionary brands like Oreos, Nutella, Flake, Snickers etc..

They also have a photo booth so you can get some snaps to take away with you while your there - a nice little bonus I think! Specially for a cute little date you want to remember.

Only down side is that there is no seating arrangement on site, so unfortunately you can't dine in and chill.
GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015
Enjoyed the fact that there was a few different flavours to choose from I would have preferred if they sold real waffles and icecream not just the waffle cones and just to add that fresh fruit toppings would also be a good addition to the menu #g1

What a yummy little place! I do like it here for a little sweet treat! I always find myself standing there and staring at the menu for like 10 minutes trying to decide what to have haha! There are soo many flavour combinations you can pick from its impossible for somebody with a sweet tooth like me haha! I love chocoalte and nutty flavours so usually go for something like that! Its pretty cool watching them mix all the ingredients together! I love their little photo booth aswell that you can go in after you have purchased your ice cream! Its a good laugh if you are there with some friends! I havent tried any of their other things on offer except for the ice cream as i think thats their main thing they do but they do offer waffles and other things. The only downside for me is i feel its a little expensive for what it is but i find that with alot of ice cream shops.
RJ
Amazing ice cream. Unique concept. Very reasonably priced. They have a photo booth and you get unlimited access to it if you spend over $9. They even print it for you for free and/or upload on their Facebook page. Had great fun using photo booth. Excellent customer service. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.

🍧🍧🍧 Basically the deal is this - customisable dessert. Dessert Dojo has a huge selection of ice cream and a variety of confectionary. You choose what combination you want and they chop it all up on a metal plate right in front of you. Dessert Dojo then puts your Frankenstein creation into a cup for you to munch on. I really enjoyed this unique take on ice cream which can be rather pedestrian at times.
It's a fun and simple idea that sparks the imagination for both young and old.

I tried Dessert Dojo thinking it would be the same as Cold Stone Icecream in the States. Me and friends bought the Groupon voucher giving us the choice of one ice cream flavour, two toppings and one sauce. I will rate this place with a 3.0 because I found the ice cream too sweet and when you mix it with lollies and chocolates, the sweetness becomes overpowering. I would suggest choosing one sweet topping and one nut toppings as I feel it would balance the flavour. Unfortunately the use of the photobooth is not free with the Groupon voucher therefore we had to pay for it to be able to use it.
I would go for a second time but is not really my go-to ice cream parlour.

The first time I discovered this place, I was blown away by the sheer awesomeness of the concept. Have been here multiple times since, and it never fails to disappoint. I usually go for the predetermined flavours as I'm super indecisive, but there are so many different icecream & topping combinations, there will definitely be something here that you like! Mixing everything together on the cold stone somehow makes it taste so much better than regular icecream. Also they have an super fun photo booth that you can use if you spend over $9, which prints out a sweet carnival style strip of photos for you to take home :)

A really nice way to finish off a date or dinner in ponsonby. I had the waffle cone which was made fresh as well as the coffee pistachio ice cream. It was damn good. The phot booth is pretty cool too my girl has the photos on the mirror already. Definately going again.
Mat
After dinner we decided to treat ourselves with dessert. I ordered the waffle with cookies & cream flavoured ice cream. I enjoyed this dessert plate.

The waffle was dense, moist and warm which is nice compared to the usual dry/flaky waffle served at most places I've tried. I like how you can customise your gelato to whatever chocolate bar flavour you like. They crush the chocolate bar with the gelato right in front of you. The concept is cool I guess!

Overall, I do recommend visiting this place, especially if you're in the neighbourhood and are in the mood for a nice simple dessert.
A Tale Of Two Tummies
Food ordered:
Cookies n Cream w/ almonds, Kit Kat and chocolate syrup
Hokey Pokey w/ Snickers, cookie dough and chocolate syrup

Bill: $13.80

Big tummy: I had been told good things about Dessert Dojo and it certainly didn't disappoint. As somebody who loves to try new things, the concept of DD is right up my alley. With so many choices to pick from, I can see us coming back time and time again. I settled for the relatively simple mixture of Hokey Pokey, Snickers, cookie dough and chocolate syrup... but I was already eyeing up what I'd create next time. Portions are really generous too with reasonable prices. Bonus points for the photo booth too. Such a cool concept. Will definitely be rocking up to DD again.

Little tummy: As a stickler for dessert, this was always going to be a hit for me. I've tried a variety of dessert places and personally I found this to be one of the better sweet treats in Auckland (I'd actually rate this higher than the ever-popular Milse). Despite being a huge dessert buff, I don't like treats that are too sweet, so the diverse selection of toppings work perfectly for me. Also, with so many choices, we already found ourselves thinking of what creation we were going to make on our next visit. Also, I loooved the fact that they had a photo booth. Such a cool novelty. Ice cream parlour + photo booth = genius. The only nitpicking I could make is that I did happen to notice the staff weren't wearing gloves during our visit. But that won't stop us from coming back again and again to explore more creations.

3rd time coming here and I love it! Simple but yummy dessert for a good price! The photo booth makes the trip memorable. Whenever I'm in Ponsonby and feel like something sweet this is my go to place.

We popped across to Dessert Dojo after dinner. It's an interesting place where all the desserts are named after martial arts (that's where the "dojo" part comes in I guess!).

They serve up their ice cream by mixing in your chosen flavours and sauces. I had the "dojo", which was vanilla ice cream, snickers bar and caramel sauce all mixed in. They also serve warm desserts - my friend had the chocolate brownie which was a good sized portion of brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Probably the bit that sets this place apart is that it has a photo booth! For every $9 you spend you get a go in the photo booth - who doesn't like a picture to go with your ice cream?! A good place for a sweet treat in Ponsonby.
Taemoata Fong
First time eating here. I got the "all black" which was pretty tasty. This place is similar to cold stone, in which they mix your ice cream and selected toppings together. Friendly service
Gentlepig
Don't you love seeing the fantastic spirit of owner-operators? I'm a regular customer, and the 'chef's always put 100% into each creation. Sure, the concept is simple but it still needs to be executed well and with a winning smile. The fun bit of the experience is trying a new formula every time, and makes for quite an event. More seats and space would do wonders for the store, and perhaps in the future the option of gelato?
Moodyfoodie
I chose 'the dojo' it was vanilla ice cream snickers and caramel sauce. On first appearance shop is quite basic - not very busy but thn again its the middle of winter in an icecream shop. Ice cream was nice but nothing special - price was a little high for what i got - not too sure if i would go back.
Dessert Lover
Dessert dojo is such an awesome they smash all your favourite toppings into your ice cream. And the photobooth is very unique thing and the best part is it prints it out right there
Nicole Mae Flores
First time coming to this place and was really amazed by the decor. It was so pink! The ice cream was great but when people say it was stone ice cream, my expectations was of those circling around on the net where they roll the ice creams then place it in cups. I was greatly disappointed at that but the ice cream i ordered (Cookie Monster) was nice but if they paid attention to details and presentation im sure more people will flock to this place. As we entered the business, we didn't see anyone minding the station and therefore had to stand around looking at the photos on the photoboard. there was no way to call any workers since there was no bell or anything. The place had a photobooth which was an upside to the whole experience. Overall, it was alright. Would give it a full mark if only we didn't have to wait for someone to serve us.
Tash Rawlinson
Cold stone icecream! Make and create your own ice cream creations with a mixture of
Toppings and flavours! The ice cream I got was nice but I have had better. Photo booth is definitely one of its best features but you have to buy $9 worth of ice cream to get a free token. Not a lot of room to sit as well.
Madeline Boyd
I love this place! Been a couple of times and have always had amazing service and delicious and affordable ice cream. I love picking my own flavours but they have ones you can pick which my friends say are great! Definitely a must do for a casual dessert
Aniva Huang
Dessert dojo is a perfect dessert place for after dinner !!

They made the ice cream right i front of us with our topping choices.

The staff were really friendly and down to earth which was awesome.

The photobooth is definitely a bonus with your yummy customised ice cream!!
Stephanie Balsom
Had a wicked experience with the team at dojo! So simple! Why has no one thought of this sooner and why is there not more of these places!!!!
Sheena
I love this place!!! I've been here twice now and both times the service has been great! The concept behind this store was relatively new to my group of friends and I so we did take more than the average person to decide on what we wanted. The lady working there didn't rush us at all and instead was happy to help with our questions.

The icecream is delicious! Really depends on your combination of icecream, toppings and sauce but I don't really think you could go wrong with any!

With a spend of $9+ you also get a free token for the photo booth, which totally adds to the experience and gives you something to keep for your memories! Love this place. Definitely coming back again!

Went here with a group of people to eat something for dessert. A cute little store with pink as the dominant colour in the store. From looking at the store's bright and colourful design and atmosphere, I get the feeling this place aimed at children to young adults. Since for most of us it was our first visit, we took a while to decide our order. Luckily the staff member was patient and didn't rush us. There were skilled staff as it was obvious they knew what they were doing and how to make the orders. I chose their 'All Black' option that contains karate chocolate ice cream, chocolate chips and sauce. When I first entered, I didn't know what to expect because all I knew was that it was an ice cream store. It was a nice surprise when I saw that they had a unique way of making their products. Using what appears to be two spoons and mixing all the chosen ingredients into the ice cream. It kind of looks like cookie dough. When served, the presentation wasn't that great but the taste of the ice cream was very good - crunchy, chocolaty taste of goodness and wasn't too sweet or strong in taste. Soon after the whole group was served, we received a free photo session at their photo booth. To conclude I had a nice experience here and I recommend others to pop in here to have a chance to try a different experience with ice cream!

I love coming here! Worth every star, if you think it's less that 5 star then maybe you're combinations are what's wrong! (-; Staff are super friendly and helpful with prices and choices. The photo booth adds to the fun!
Queena
Enjoyed "The 3 C's"!!!! My new fave there. Great customer service and BONUS!! There's a photo booth there when you spend $9+ and you get to take pics for FREE!! Amazing! Who doesn't like free photos aye?

I personally think that it's a little pricey but hey! It actually tastes good! Cookie dough ftw!!
Samantha Young
So yummy! Even though I didn't make it myself lol! Fun to watch them make your selection in front of you. Photobooth there as well! :) Must try again!
Kiwi Foodie
I've been looking forward to trying out this place for a while - Auckland's very own little cold stone creamery! The novelty of being able to make your own custom ice cream sounded very appealing to me, so I dropped by last Saturday night. At first glance, the place looks like your everyday self-serve froyo shop - cute decor, but rather indistinguishable.

I had a small gourmet ice cream ($4.90), which allowed me to pick 1 base ice cream, 2 toppings, and 1 sauce. There are only about 8 base ice cream options to choose from, but that does make sense considering the fact that there will be toppings mixed in later. The toppings selection on the other hand is decent, not as varied as the likes of KiwiYo have pampered us with, but still quite a few interesting options.

So, you select your base ice cream, toppings, and sauce, and the guy behind the counter mixes it all up in front of you on a stone slab. It's interesting to watch, and the result is quite nice. In my opinion it really is more of a novelty than anything else though, as the ice cream is rather average in quality, and it gets a bit soft and watery after the mixing. Also, it's fairly expensive, as $4.90 netted me a really, really small cup of ice cream.

I'm glad I tried it, as the concept is pretty interesting, but if you're just after good-quality (or value for money) ice cream instead of wanting to make your own custom creations, there are better dessert places around.
Sarah Leakey
Love this place been there multiple times and never disappointed love the wide range of choices and there's a cool as photo booth that prints your pics instantly . Love at first sight is so delicious will definitely be back soon !
Samuel Paulsen
Went there with the girlfriend and this place is our new favourite! Ice cream is completely customisable (you choose from their selection of 'toppings' and you choose your ice cream flavour and they smash it all up on a frozen stone!)It gets better, they also give you a free token to use in their photobooth which prints out strips to take home with you as a memory.I would say this place is the number one date spot!check it out
Mariamjafer
I've always been a big fan of cold stone ice cream (mixed with your choice of toppings on a cold slab of stone). With all the froyo outlets opening, it's refreshing to step into a good old fashioned ice cream parlour with a modern twist. Choosing your toppings and a divine sauce and seeing it mixed infront of you! What more could you ask for? It is one of the only cold stone ice creameries in the country. After you scrape every last drop of ice cream out of the cup, you and your friends can take goofy pictures in the photo booth!
Esther Song
First time experience pretty cool. You get to choose your own flavors or you can just go with the normal suggested ones. Taste wise, just like any normal ice cream mixed up with toppings of your choice.
Really liked the marketing part where any purchase over $9 gets you to try out their photo booth.
Frequency
I'd heard great things about dessert dojo, it just seemed like a bit of a rip off of cold rock in Aussie, at it was similar but it was still awesome.. The flavors available were really cool... I had peanut butter, Oreo, cookies and cream and caramel sauce, it was epic, the photo booth was a cool idea and the staff were really nice.. I will definately be back!!
Nom Nom Panda
This newly opened, pink and white little store may look like yet another froyo outlet, but although it is similar, its product is actually ice cream, with your choice of topping mixed into it.

I love their logo and decor, as well as the photo booth that you get to use for free if you make a purchase greater than $9.

The product tastes good, but it is a little less fun than froyo because unless you want to spend a lot of money, you only get to choose one or two toppings. All the nuts seemed to be chopped (though things like Oreos were whole, ready to be crushed into your ice cream) and easily mixed in, so the show I had of mixing it in was not really that interesting. Also, you pay for the size you want, rather than serving yourself and paying by weight. I suspect the mixing would be more interesting if you chose to have more ice cream and toppings than I did.

There are eight basic ice cream flavours, like vanilla, hokey pokey, and mocha, nothing too inventive, as it needs to work with the topping.

Still, great atmosphere and this would make a cute teen date spot, especially because of the pink heart-shaped spoons, funny sayings on the wall, and the photo booth.
