Review Kati Grill - Auckland Central

Benedict Uy
I have walked past this place quite a few times and decided to try it to see what it was like. The menu had options of roll or on rice bust as it was a roll place I went with the roll. I also decided to upgrade with combo B to add chips and a mango lassi to the roll for an extra $7.50. The roll was smaller than I expected since it was quite thin. I got the chicken tikka one and it was really nice. I liked the flavours inside the roll but it did get quite wet. They forgot my fries and lassi but did make it when I reminded them. The fries were ok as I couldn't really taste much of the masala on them. They were fried nicely though. I wasn't a big fan of the lassi since there were bits of yoghurt in it so it was a bit chewy. The flavour was ok though. The place is fairly small but they do have a few tables as well as a bench along the wall. Lots of flavour options including vegetarian ones.

For a quick tasty dinner, I loved stopping in at Kati Grill in K Rd for spicy chicken roti wrap with mango lassi. Simply delicious and food for your soul!
Hello Monday
If you need a break from your hard days of work then you must try this! We ordered from here for our meeting/lunch session and everyone fell in love with the various flavours and how beautifully it was presented. The staff are very friendly especially Jaspreet! This is an easy 5 for us as it ticked all boxes that it needed to.
Samarth Dave
Had this after couple years and still tastes great. Ingredients were fresh and it was made to order as always. The staff is super friendly. Although it took a while to get our order ready but the end result was excellent. Keep up the good work guys.

I like their food. My colleagues order it most of the times for shared lunch at work mainly because they do delivery as well. It's an additional point as when the food gets delivered at your door step. Any purchase made above 30$ is a free delivery and that is pretty amazing. Thanks for all your wraps. They are a hearty meal.

We were recommended to try this place next time we were in town. I ordered the chilli chicken and rice and my wife ordered the butter chicken wrap. After waiting a wee while for our food, we were not disappointed with the result. My wife said the wrap tasted lovely and fresh, mine was also tasted very good. In our passion to order we did not spot the Mango Lassi's, good reason to return and try their other dishes. The decor is typical take away, but the food is definitely not !!!! Looking forward to next visit :-)

The team at Kati Grill catered for our wedding couple of weeks ago and all we can say is - you guys are awesome! You did an amazing job with the food and presentation, it was a beautiful spread. Very impressed with the fresh produce and treats, combined with the stunning presentation and serving boards, it really elevated our wedding decor. Our guests were complimentary of the food and they loved the DIY Aloo Chaat stand. Thank you so much for being so accommodating and making such delicious food. We couldn’t have done it without you.

I am very impressed of the service and the meal I have ordered. Perfect taste of Chicken Tika Masala with yellow rice and the Specialised oven typed roast chicken drumsticks. With A can of Diet Coke — all up for NZ$23.00. I have to recommend this to my friends. Very nice friendly staffs that ensure the quality, standard, code of conduct, and attitude of the customer service. I shall recommend to anyone who is visiting Karangahape Rd to give it a try, you might satisfy your choice here.

Kati rolls are one of the best Indian fast food. Kati Grill definitely does good kati rolls. To add more crisp to your meal, add some fries. They have one of the best fries in town.

Love love love the food everything i have had is yum

Great selection of Indian food. Available on uber eats as well. Doesn't have cheese pakoda as an option. Otherwise great menu and sensible pricing. Definitely recommend for a late night snack. Must try items include, butter chicken with naan, chilli chicken and paneer dishes .

Love going to this place for takeaway once in a while. If you are not aware of Kati, it’s like a wrap. Imagine a nice hot chicken tikka masala in a wrap with some sauces. The masala chips are a really nice add on as well. Best to grab a kati roll and head on to a nice spot to eat. I always park at the Mercury Plaza food court parking to avoid any drama. You could give them a call for your order and pick up or just order on Menulog.

Flavours are indeed great and satisfying. But the quantity for the price is below average. Would d get 5 stars if they improve value for money. $10.90 is a bit much for the quantity you get.

Loved the kathi rolls. Just like how it should be. I would definitely recommend to this place who want to try some authentic rolls. Can’t believe I didn’t go there sooner. Will be back soon.

Kati rolls are delicious. Can't work out why there aren't more places in Auckland to get these. My only gripe is that service can be very slow, even when you're the only one in there..

Kati grill is simply superb. We catered for around 18 people and right from the pickup time to the food everything was perfect and well organised. The food was fresh and extremely delicious. We would definetly recommend it to annyone organising a summer BBQ. Apart from the food it was a pleasure dealing with Jaspreet who was on top of things and even suggested us the quantity. Very happy with Kati Grill.

Earlier I loved the taste but this time it was pathetic , in terms of taste , service, staff behave n more over they never charge for mint sauce but this time they took extra money for it too Was last time even been there

Everything was good but the pataka paneer roll OMG too 🌶🌶 other than that it was a good experience 👍🏻

Went to the may road branch. Decided to dine-in & ordered Lahsooni-Adraki Chicken wrap combo. That was amazing. So I order another one to takeaway. I still remember that awesome taste on my tounge..... Many many thanks.

Absolutely love Kati Grill. We had all our food catered from them for our house warming party and everyone was raving. A big shout out to the Jaspreet, who was extremely helpful in putting all of this together. The spread looked incredible. We cannot recommend them highly enough. Would totally recommend Kati Grill for any catering needs.

Ordered rolls for lunch at work. Everyone just LOVED the rolls. They were yumm and full of flavours. Just AMAZING. Recommended

Love the chips here, with the spices on top♥️ The Kati rolls honestly depend on who is making them, I have had some really good ones, but also some which are either too spicy/saucy and it totally kills the taste of the whole roll.

Paneer being my fav✨

Tried mixed platter kati grill for lunch with a work friend , good portion size and quick service, would love to come back 😋.its on zomato gold as well which makes the experience worth while 😊

Walked into a clean "Street market" looking store.

Got chicken and vegetarian wraps that were hot and fresh but a little small and I was still left hungry. The food took around 15 minutes, but worth it for the decent vegetarian options they had.
Ravinder Singh
Amazing spicy snack to munch on if you are Indian you will love it! 😍 situated in city centre enjoy the club vibes with this amazing kathi roll
LUCY PICKERING

Their #KatiRolls are to binge on! This place is my All time favourite go to corner in Auckland. We are so happy at least one Indian place that serves so good Rolls so authentic & that to open late night on weekends! We come all the way from North Shore just to relish their Rolls.
A big shoutout to their Chilli Chicken Roll also their Chilli Paneer & Achari Paneer Roll.
Thank you so much guys for opening this chain in Auckland and giving us the exact taste.
I used to wait every year to have their Roll at the Diwali festival until I discovered they had a brand at K road.
Would definitely recommend do expand your chain in future near North Shore or Sylvia area.
Totally recommend this place for street food lovers like me.
Viren Manglani
The rolls are good but soggy and mush , if they stopped rolling it in the tin foil and served a Kathi roll the way it’s served in Calcutta , it’ll remain crisp on the outside and so much better
Richa Khattar Goyal
Very good quick food. Theu have good Chicken Pakoras and wide choice of vegetarian and Nov veg options. The best one I tried so far is the Lamb Seekh Kebab roll. The Chutney is spicy so mild works best. Its a good place to enjoy on a quick meal and is not at all expensive.
Olivia Shelton
Went to this place tonight ordered masala fries and a tikki chaat the masala fries tasted like hard boiled eggs and the tikki looked like a stirred up poo.

THE FOODOLOGIST RATING:-

FOOD:- 1.2/5 ( Bad ,Not Cooked well ,Tasteless,Dry)

SERVICE:- 2.5/5 ( Self Service,Lacks Customer service )

AMBIANCE:- 2/5 (Fast Food Joint ,Plastic,)

CLEANLINESS:- 2.5/5 (Looks Unclean, Hygiene standard lacking)

VALUE FOR MONEY :- 4.5/5 (Cheap , Suits the product being offered)

FOOD POCKET DAMAGE:- ****/*****( Cost For 2 $20)

THE FOODOLOGIST REVIEW:
-

Was tired of trying all the kebab centers in and around Auckland , For a change always used to pass by the place on k-road. So went to try it . The menu looked like they were a cross between a kebab joint and a Frankie joint . For those who don't know what a Frankie joint it is something familiar to Indians . It basically a curry like butter chicken rolled into a Indian flour bread . The curry did not taste good and it was soggy my friend ordered a kebab roti which was dry . I did not like the way they were preparing it a couple of uni students doing it and especially when its a counter you can see through it should be better . Would not recommend

My boyfriend and I ate wraps here on Thursday night and we super average. Small portions and I felt really sick immediately afterward. My boyfriend has been sick with food poisoning for the past days and this is the only thing he's eaten out of the ordinary. I had a vegetarian one which was super basic and my boyfriend ate a chicken one which I think is why he has been so sick. Wouldn't recommend and wish I had seen the reviews on here as it sounds like the place has gone down hill.

Very bad experience today I gave a order for chilly chicken kati roll mild but they gave me hot one I would not prefer this restaurant because this happened with me second time .

Stopped by this place to get some take out. I got the Chicken Tikka with rice and it was amazing. Loved the rice and sauces. Will definitely go back to try other stuff as well.

Always used be good. At least city branch. Visited mt roskill branch recently, probably not the best rolls. Quality has downgraded big time. Used to be really good. May be because there's only one person running the branch. Ordered Chicken tikka n lamb seekh roll, both exactly same except for meat. Same base, same chutney and only fully loaded with onions. Was removing a plate full of onion other day.

Probably wont visit again for a long time now.
Amy Alton
I'd never had Kati before. We ordered take out, the tikka chicken and butter chicken. Very tasty, well seasoned, lots of sauce and flavor. I liked the texture of the roti.

This place just doesnt get anything wrong - does it?
There is nothing which is not authentic about Kaati Grill. Having grown up on the delicacies that these guys serve, I am fortunate to be able to make out anything that is even minutely far from being called Authentic.

Very easy to locate on K road, they serve very very very seriously original fillings in fresh kaati roll bread. Perfectly spiced and rolled in with generous spread of tangy mint chutney and onion salad, this place does not get anything wrong. Must try - Achari Paneer Tikka Roll, Mango Lassi
Bakshi Pulkit
Food used to be good, reduced quantity, suffered quality. Like few other around, Kati Grill has lost its USP. Buckle up folks before its too late

Best chicken roll in New Zealand...feel the Indian tastes
Price is reasonable, ambience is good. Location is perfect
Must visit for everyone
Hannah Gear
Ordered the butter chicken kati roll, masala chips and mago lassi. The butter chicken roll was very tasty but I found it far too oily and needed more than just chicken and onion in it. The masala chips were good but I found the seasoning was a lacking a little. The mango lassi was the saving grace as it was one of the better ones I have had.
Mmmfood
This is a great place for one of the more unique quick bites around Auckland. I highly recommend the Lamb Seekh Kati Roll. The prices are right, and the fact that it is open late is a bonus for those late night cravings. The ambience is not worth mentioning and on a cold night, I recommend you bring a warm jacket because the doors are always wide open.

Tried this place (wrongly) assuming that it would be a NZ take on the typical Indian Kathi kabab and boy was I wrong..!!
I loved this place (for its food) and the authentic taste. The kebab had sufficient filling and had the mandatory green chutney.

Pros -
1. Authentic Indian Kathi roll
2. Great taste
3. Reasonably priced

Cons-
1. Not the best place to sit and eat (I prefer a takeaway)
2. Certain items (tangdi kebab) take time, but this is acceptable and they tell you in advance
I Am Hungry
Place is run by bunch of guys...who really dont wna work there...and r forced to ...food takes long time and is not worth the price..masala chips r full of masala and meat is uncooked...3/4 times i was there....there wont be a fifth time

Not a good place to be at. I been there twice did not have a good experience at all. For the first time I tried their mango lassi it was stale and extreme sour instead of being sweet. Recently I ordered for Chicken Tikka combo. Chicken was not of good quality. I was very disappointed with masala chips. They were not crisp at all.
Taranjeet Kaur
Ordered a chicken tikka wrap and asked it to be hot for a very grey day. The staff did better than expected and made it sizzling hot. Great for the day and quite sumptuous but I would suggest to tone down the heat a bit.

Good kati options around chicken, lamb n veg.
The masala chips are yumm and they have good paratas along with some rice options. Good idea for a quick lunch!

Great concept, I have met the owners once long time back very good couple but your employees are running this place to the ground. They need to be trained very inconsistent service, came with a couple of mates last week orders some wraps with mild spice everyone's spice level was different and one guy choked on how spicy it actually these guys are curry veterans hence know the spice. About a month ago had to wait over 45 minutes after I placed a takeaway order and got here in 20 minutes. 60+ minutes for a roll?? Stay away very inconsistent however a good concept.

The corn side they make is usually really good, but anything with chicken always is full of chunks of black charcoal burnt stuff, making the rest taste burnt. Used to be really good, but every time I get something with chicken it's always burnt. My partner ordered a roll with paneer in it, but they used tofu instead of paneer, so didn't give him what he actually ordered. This place is getting disappointing......

'Frankie's' is what we call rolls in most parts on India, especially in Mumbai.

There is no other place that will serve you such spicy, eggy and a role full of surprises here in Auckland.

Kati grill has done an extremely amazing job to bring this kind of food to New Zealand.

If you do end up having a Kati(roll) make sure you try out their masala chips.

I'm a regular here.

Good Food Good Restaurant...!!! A perfect place for students got lots of varieties in menus including parathas..!!

i ordered every second day from ur restaurant and just luv ur paneer pakoda...and chilli pannneeer wid fried Rice..

Cheers, keep it up
Vaibhav Ajmera
Not a pretty great restaurant as such.

Taste is pretty bad. They bring rice from freezer and microwave it before serving. Worst option of pre cooking the rice dont know how many days before
Feel Food
I had heard abt this place quite a few times, went there with 2 of my friends, I ordered crunchy munchy corn n my frnds' ordered wraps. Quality is good. Though corn portion was a bit smaller. Would try sometime and then write a detailed one. Cheers

A complete delicasy! Loved the kathi's.. Totally indian style with the adequate punch of flavours! And yeah a bit spicy - just the indian way!

The best tandoori wraps I've ever had. Would definitely want to come back next time, it's been years since the last time I've had a wrap. The trip was well worth it.

helllooooooo katigrill k road branch

i am ordering with you guys from last couple of years...And i am very thankful that you guys always serve best food...thankz to the staff and delivery guy who does a good job...always deliver before time...

I ordered the mixed vegetable roll and it was not to my taste. I like the concept and would definitely go back to try a different option. It's great that there are three vegan options to choose from.

I went to Kati Grill in Karangahape Rd , and had Sheek Kebab with Roti it was Delicious, What i Noticed that this place the Kebabs were made freshly and were moist and yummy . Again I went on Wed with my wife before flying back to Australia. She had Gobi Paratha and that were delicious.
The service was good by the two boys there. I will recommend this place for good food and value for money.
Nice Kebabs in Town.

The most authentic Indian food I have ever tasted in Auckland. The most popular name for Kati Roll in India is Frankie. It's Roti with the layer of omelette and your choice of meat or vegetables rolled in an aluminium foil. The kitchen is open for the customers to peek how the Kati Rolls are made.
Stango
The Kati Roll.... It's like a kebab but filled with curried meats, vege or paneer. Unlike anything else I've been able to find in Auckland. Hits the spot when I feel like Indian food on the go (I can eat this while running - yay!) Food is well priced and would recommend almost anything on the menu. Masala chips: absolutely yum.
Mani Kaur
Good food for late night eaters .went there around 11pm last night had yummy aachari and chilli chicken wrap .fresh food with taste for genuine price.

When you ask them for spicy roll - they make your eyes water - THANK YOU KATI GRILL!
Have not tried many other things from their menu - they are called Kati Grill - they make pretty good Kati Rolls!
We at our flat have also recently discovered that they make paranthas (yummy ones) and do most aweomse masala chips. On top of everything they deliver!!
For days when you dont wanna cook but would still like some paranthas - go here (or order online!)
They do take an hour - that is the only drawback - faster delivery times would be appreciated!
Melissa Pond
Been recommended by work colleagues. A good twist to other kebabs. It's your favourite curry in one. Had Butter Chicken one medium and it was super tasty and spice level was great
Ajay Shankar
Kati grill quite known for the rolls and kebabs is quite fine to go for once in a while . If we compare to it being authentic Indian food it is quite closely matched when compared to other restaurants. If you need the real flavour of India try their spicy option. Kaboom u will feel it! The only down fall is the time they take and needs to improve on it... Try it guys u will like it!
Angel .
Love the food. Everything on their menu tastes delicious.

Wait time is really long, sometimes up to 30 mins. But because they make everything fresh, this is not a problem.

Awesome Awesome food. I've been a fan of grilled foods all my life going back to my days in India where this is a popular form of street food. I was so happy when I discovered this place a few years ago now. Being a vegetarian means i am limited by choice in most places but Kati Grill has about 6 options for me and they are all 5 stars in my book. The staff are friendly and the service and ambience is great. $10 can buy you a good feed here.
Jamini Pulyadath
I have been to Kati Grill several times now and have introduced my non-Indian friends to this place and unanimously we love it! The stuffing is delicious and very close to flavours of the street food in India, though not 100% there. The service is prompt and I would recommend Kati Grill for a quick, no fuss delicious meal on the run.
Nel
Love eating here simply cause its fresh and absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly and the service is quite good too. I personally like the lamb seek Kati roll and the paneer makhani kati roll. Definitely worth trying :-)
Bonsai
I've been here twice, and really enjoyed it. Both times I had the Achari Paneer Kati Roll and Masala Chips - really yummy. There are loads of choices for vegetarians, which is always an advantage for me. The wraps are a great new addition to the range of Indian food that can be bought in Auckland. I can imagine them being a great post-booze up snack, though they are filling enough for a meal.

Edit:
I have become a regular here since my first review as the food is just delicious. It seems to be the only Indian place in Auckland that cooks paneer in a tandoor, which adds a delicious smokiness to it. The new Paneer Makhani roll is divine - though very rich! That it is always busy and new items are continually being added to the menu is a very good sign indeed.

Lovely Indian tea, and courteous staff. However, in our opinion, we did not find the food very appetizing, though it has its fair share of customers, probably regulars too. The only reason we decided on this place was because it was open late at night. Other times I would likely give it a skip. Maybe go back for the tea though! :)

Came here for lunch with a couple of work friends after being told that this was where authentic curry was made and had a very mixed experience. I was very excited about the prospect of a Butter Chicken roll and was quite pleased with the flavour of the curry -a lot more savoury and had more spice than the usual sweet fluoro butter chicken that is served at other places. However, half of my roll appeared to be onions which was not appetising at all! The taste of onion was so overpowering that I could only get about two thirds of the way through my roll before it became too much (and then pulled out the chicken pieces to eat separately..).

The masala chips were absolutely delightful though and I daresay they would give McDonalds and KFC a run for their money! The mango lassi I got was also great. If I were to visit again, I think I would ask for no onions or have the curry with rice like my colleague did.
Danny
Depending on your knowledge and preference for Indian food, Kati Grill can be a great or a satisfactory experience. They serve kati rolls - a popular kind of Indian street food. Think of a kati roll as India's version of a kebab. And there are plenty of katis here - ranging from vegetarian (paneer, channa) to chicken and even beef. They're all priced around $10 and for about $5 more you can add masala chips.

The food here is definitely tasty and authentic enough, but I can't help but think of it as overpriced street food (which kind of defeats its very purpose!). I mean $5 for some chips (which are basically fries with some spices sprinkled over them)!!

But for someone who has never delved in anything Indian beyond a butter chicken, this will be a nice (spicy) surprise! The Paneer Tikka and Chicken TIkka katis here are a good place to start.

Jst amazing rolls
Reasonably priced
It's a must try

Conveniently located near the corner of Queen St and K’Rd, Kati Grill is in prime position for a quick sit-down meal or when you need to grab and go. Kati rolls, a popular and compact street food in India, are the main deal here but don’t forget to follow it with a side of their famous masala chips: they’re India’s answer to KFC fries. For a full review and dish recommendations go to http://cheapeats.co.nz/kati-grill/

The only place I found in Auckland serving authentic Indian kathi rolls. A quite little shop on the Karangahape Road, Kati Grill provides rolls in different flavours; all of them priced at around $10. Combine these with a Masala Tea and you are very close to the authentic street food experience of India. They do take some time to prepare these rolls and make sure you mention how spicy you want the rolls to be, else you might be in for a not-so-pleasant surprise.
