Review Royal Horse Takeaway - Auckland Central

The dining experience at this establishment is quite pleasant; the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. The service is consistently prompt, with dishes served promptly. While we frequently opt for takeout rather than dining in, the small diner only has a handful of tables, occasionally requiring share a table with others. I believe the overall layout of the place could be improved for a more comfortable dining atmosphere.

I have been to this restaurant twice and each time myself and husband enjoyed it. The food is always delicious and generous portions, if you dine in you get to enjoy their miso soup. This has become a regular for me, definitely recommend to everyone to visit here.

I drove past this place at least 2000 times in the past 19 years but never went in. Heard this place from a friend and noticed that it is actually a proper Chinese takeaway/rest instead of a fish and chips shop. Went in and tasted it, it’s good, 5 stars. You pay for the quality, so other reviewers please release the fact that you are not dinning at a 10 star test.

Generous portion, for the pork and chicken cutlet rice, I wasn’t expecting there will be so much vege on the sides. They provided a lot of egg in that stir fry (you know how expensive eggs are lol). It’s great value for $19.5. Free miso soup, clean and homely environment, the lady at the cashier is super nice. It’s a nice place to have a quick lunch

My family has been here for Taiwanese meal several times. The set meal is good and fairly priced. Beef noodle is delicious with nuggets of beef. The snacks and free soup there are good too.

Very convenient, very tasty, very heavy. The meals are very big, lots of different surprises too. Price was $10-$15 per meal. Gangster monies worth. If you dine in you sometimes get free soup too. Not the tidiest most fancy restaurant. But fills the hunger craving spots. I usually just takeaway. Service: 3/5 Food Quality: 4/5 Food Quantity: 5/5 Environment: 2/5 Price per person: $15-$20 inc drinks

Another good choice for craving Taiwanese foods. Reasonable price set menu with choices of rice and noodles. Taiwanese street foods are also very popular. Dine in get free soup and daily green beans soup

Royal horse is my favourite takeaway restaurant! Their portions are huge and price is friendly. Try out the pork/chicken or the combination cutlet on rice 👍🏻you will not be disappointed. (Dumplings were average)

Good food. Huge portion with enough vege. Soup is too sweet, not my type. Envirement is so so. But good value for money for a quick meal. Will come back.

Local Taiwanese food. Big portions, great taste. Unfortunately prices have risen a bit lately. Free soup if dining in. Closes early.
Tina Cheung
Very good value, delicious and reasonably priced. Clean surroundings and friendly, efficient service. Highly recommended

Food is 100% top quality! Prices are not too bad either! Only challenge I have is when I order, the person on the line has trouble understanding english. If you can get over that hurdle, you are guaranteed to have a great meal. My go to is the lemongrass chicken and the spicy chicken.
Kyle Glass
Great value, very tasty food, generous portions. My favourite local spot!

I honestly can't eat them all on my own. For those who were born with a relatively smaller stomach, I would suggest to just order one main and have it for two meals. Cheap and quick!!! One flaw to say is the sause was a lil bit salty for me.

Generous portion and tasty meals. You won't be disappointed even randomly oeder from menu. If you don't have a roomy stomach better prepare your own containers. Free soup and deserts are definitely add on bonus. On street parking is a bit hard during busy hours however can always park across at Three King centre. Would be even better if can insert photos in menu for easy referencing.

Honestly hands down the best Taiwanese “fast food” like a bento style restaurant where they give you 3 side dishes when you order the fried chicken on rice. They have complimentary miso soup and green bean soup for dessert! However the place might not be super clean if you are those that have to make sure places are bright and clean

Yum, although takeaway was average due to the huge amount of sauce my meal was covered with ! Certainly ask for no sauce. Looking forward to eating in next time !

Cheap and cheerful Taiwanese food, the deep fried chicken cutlet on rice is the star dish, it’s not too oily not too dry and comes with some side veggies to take the guilt away. It also offers free miso soup for diners. My only suggestion is to give the place a coat of paint at some stage, just to freshen things up a bit.

Look for good Taiwanese food .. ✅ Look for good environment ⛔️ Look for good service ⛔️ Look for good portion ~~ fair

This place disgusts me!!!! They know they have bad service but they don't seem to give a damn about it! I ordered a soup today because i wasn't that hungry - out came a bowl of soup with rotten/dried out corriander on the top as garnish!! Then I asked for a soup spoon (because he didn't bring me one), the staff replied me "no more..they are all used up and they havn't washed them yet" ... Please... Im only asking for one spoon which he could have easily went in and asked for one to be quickly washed, but no - he chose to be rude and lazy coz he simply couldn't be bothered!!! It wasn't because they were extremely busy or whatever, the shop was so damn quiet with only one other customer in it - such bad attitude and appalling appalling service I will never go back again!!! :( This place used to be good (with the previous Taiwanese owner) but ever since the new 'Chinese' owner took over.. The food and service started going downhills.. And rapidly too!!! And frankly, the staff (or worse, the boss) doesn't give a damn!!!

The taste originated in Taiwan and the fusion with different cuisine styles that will certainly live up to the most demanding taste buds of Kiwis, keep up with the great food u two^_^

I think the average rank is too high. That's why I want to down vote it a bit :-) Though, food is not too bad (I mean, pricewise).

The chefs there are so handsome and the taiwanese sausages are very yummy

Absolutely love this place. It's cheap with large portions and super yummy. If you dine in you can also help yourself to miso soup too. Our favourite dishes are the Katsu Chicken and Moroccan lamb. Highly recommend.

Delicious, cheap and large portions. Free serve yourself miso. This outlet is small but makes really tasty foods.
Service is good and wait times are very minimal even when its busy.
Sure try if you are in the area looking for good value and tasty foods.
Can never go wrong with crispy fried pork cutlets or braised pork belly or anything on the menu.
Its all delicious.
Louise
This place is so good for its price! The portion sizes are pretty big and so worth it! The service was very quick especially because there was one person who took the orders, payments and did all the serving and cleaning up herself. The food also came out very quickly.

The only downside is that the place isn’t the cleanest. If you want a table you might need to wait next to someone who looks like they might be finishing up soon so the table won’t be super clean.

I highly recommend their Taiwanese Sausage with rice, and their popcorn chicken and chicken katsu!

If you don’t finish your meals you can also get it takeaway (likewise you can get your meals takeaway in general) so it’s very convenient!

This restaurant always soooo busy, because reasonable price and delicious taste. I always got take away and eat at home, if you dine in, you can get free soup too.

Almost once a week we would eat here. Few reasons: 1, Value for money. Owner is very generous on size of the dishes. Have been there for years, everytime we are still impressed by the size. 2, Quality. meats, veges, salads, etc are all fresh, no greasy or over salted or strong MSG taste. My partner loves Steak dish cos its cooked perfectly everytime. 3, Quick service. 4, free Miso soup and desert green bean soup for dine in customers. This is another generous offer from the owner. The beef noodle soup is rich and tasty, best one in town. No comments on deco of the shop since this is a local food fuel place, as long as it is clean, who cares about out of date deco.

I ordered fried chicken katsu and fish ball soup. It was a huge portion and at an unbeatable price too. I would definitely return some other time.

This place has been open for a while and no wonder why! Quality stays the same and the freshness is there to match. Very well price and you also get unlimited miso soup as a bonus! I always come here when im around the neighbourhood!

My husband and I miss Taiwanese food so much and we have tried several Taiwanese restaurant, this must be in the top three!! Strongly recommended!!

The Taiwanese sausage. Sorry doesn't look super fancy in a take away box but it does taste very good. love the sausage with a bit of sweet taste LOL

This place is our go to spot when we can't be bothered cooking. It's quite a small shop so don't expect much in terms of decor. Since it's so small also expect it to be busy if you go during the main dinner rush. There is usually only one person on the floor taking orders, delivering food and cleaning so be prepared to wait a little.

There are a variety of dishes that come with your choice of rice or noodles. Most of the rice options also come with some sides like stir fried vegetables and tomato egg. You get a very generous portion of food, more so if choose to eat in.

The food isn't outstanding, it's a generic Asian style diner, but most dishes are flavorful. Side options include popcorn chicken, deep fried squid, and tofu.

My go to mains are the Moroccan chicken and lamb, grilled steak or katsu curry. Go when you're hungry and don't want to spend more than $20 for a filling meal (or a meal and leftovers for lunch the next day)

Food : 4/5
Price : 5/5
Atmosphere : 4/5
Service : 5/5

The interior of this place is very outdated but it is spotlessly clean. I couldn’t find any unpleasant dirty spot regardless of its outdated interior. The interior rather brings the memories of authentic Taiwanese restaurants I have been in Taiwan.

We ordered fried chicken katsu and beef noodle soup. It was a huge portion for the price ($13). Katsu was fried really nicely and on the plate there was a big amount of delicious salad. Beef noodles soup was very good as well. It tasted a little bit like japanese curry. It wasn’t very authentic but the taste was very good that I finished the whole bowl. Nothing was over salty.

There are two different kinds of free soups you can have when you dine in, miso soup and red bean soup. I personally enjoyed their red bean soup in this chilly weather.

I would like to come back again.

Good cheap filling meal. Dishes are only about $12. The fried chicken, Japanese chicken and beef noodle soup are highly recommended. The stinky tofu is one of the stinkiest around (good thing) but its very salty. And they have free miso soup and a sweet asian dessert soup. The ambience and decor is not the best but thats not what you would come for. We return regulary for the food and the friendly service.

I took my aunty to this and she loved it so much. We ordered beef noodles, fried chicken combo and deep fried oysters. You can help yourself with 2 kinds of soup. Very yummy and generous portion.

I came here like five years ago, decor is still outdated but food is so nice! Very pretty and well presented and yummy! We ordered the braised beef spicy noodles $12 and the pork cutlet with salad and rice $11. I didn't expect much but the pro was cooked so crispy and delicious! The salad and rice with tomato and eggs really balanced the meal!

It was so fulling that when my mum and I had it together we kept saying how delicious it was! My brother ordered the noodles and kept saying it was very hot! Not too spicy but hot like humid lol. The restaurant also had two soups for customers to have, miso soup (with cubes of tofu and seaweed) and green bean soup. Will definitely come again!!!

One of the best Taiwanese spots I've been to.The price is very cheap for what you get. The quality of the food is reasonable and the quantity is huge. Definitely one of the best cheap eats. I ordered the fried pork cutlet, large portion, the pork was crunchy which it was tender on the inside.Takoyaki was $9. I expected the portion to be small like other restaurants but to my surprise the serving was yet again was huge.A bonus is that there are self serve soups available when you dine in which is great.

I have drove past the shop for so many times before and I have never realized that this is actually a taiwanese shop. Decided to give it a try today. It was awesome. They provide free miso soup and green bean soup. I had the taiwanese braised beef in soup it was so delicious. I've also had the ice lemon tea for only $2. Would recommend to those who like noodle soup.

2018 Dec,
My husband order a fried chicken cutlets with rice and salad.
I Oder teriyaki chicken with rice and salad.
We have some soup before the meal come out.
Two soup , one is green bean soup , one is miso tofu soup. Then, meals come out, quick, almost same time. And the dish looks almost the same too. Just the egg diff, and sauce different. Authentic Taiwanese food for us.

A busy, no fuss Taiwan "fast food" in Auckland. The sizes are really decent and my favourite is the crispy chicken on rice. The pork mince on rice is slight sweet for my taste but overall a very nice place for some hearty food.

Good food ,good service, but do watch out for the slippery floor , specially if you have baby , but the shop do need a bit of rearrange of the seating.

Comfortable and satisfying, it felt like eating home-cooked meals. We ordered the japanese style chicken katsu curry and the taiwanese chicken cutlet on rice. The portion is huge and they also serve two soups which you can help yourself with. One of our favourite restaurants for comfy delicious taiwanese food!
HungryRunner
One of my favourite places to go to as the dishes are tasty and cheap. Service is not bad. Place needs to be decorated to have a good ambiance. Utensils also needs upgrading. They have a variety of nice dishes to choose from. Spicy fish and tofu is a must to try.
Food 24/7
Traditional Taiwanese food, possibly one of our family favourites . We never leave without the Taiwanese style pork cutlet, pork trotters and soya chicken leg. I love that the meals come with sides of Taiwanese style vegetables, pork mince drizzled on top of the rice AND a fried egg. Heaven !!!!

The food is delicious and traditional . It sure brings me back home every time .

Apologies the photos are rushed.. as i could not wait to dig into my food lol

Had been there for few times. They provide two free soup for all diners. Both price and serving size were satisfactory. Service is good, too. But I have to insist that some of deep fried dishes there brought me a taste of MSG.

The best Taiwanese food in Auckland !!
Makes me feel like Im home!
Highly recommended the "Beef noodles soup", "Teriyaki chicken on rice" and "Fried tofu" ^^

If you want cheap eats, this is a good place to go to in three kings. I would have never noticed this place if my friend didn't tell me about it. Large portions, cheap and reasonable. all rice dishes came with yummy sides like tofu, vegetable and egg. Also there is self service soup (we had miso and green bean).

I ordered the combination fried chicken fillets and pork fillets. It was seasoned with the typical salt and pepper (Taiwanese flavour). The chicken was good but pork was tougher and had hint of the smelly pork smell.

Friend ordered braised pork trotter which was not soft enough and another ordered beef noodle soup which smelt and taste really good but slightly on the greasy end.

We also got fried squid - delicious!!!!! And a mixed platter - yummy if you feel like a bit of everything Taiwanese :)

And of course lots to take away.
Love Food
It one of my favorite place for dinner, Taiwanese cusine. Pork chop on rice and beef noodle soup. All the meal is very tasty good portion as well.
I'm A Foodie
We ordered 3 meals and they were tasty, you can get a free drink when you check in Facebook, it's a taiwanese restaurant and it make perfectly the same flavor in Taiwan.

I often drive past this cafe and its always full so I thought I would check it out today.
I ordered the crispy chicken $10 although busy I only had a 10 minute wait for a take away.
One thing I did notice was people helping themselves to soup as mentioned in reviews cool idea.
As you can see from photos massive serve I only managed half so will provide my dinner also!
Lovely moist flavoursome chicken also comes with soft egg and tofu wow you could feed three with it.
Such good value.
Tasty will come again thank you.

A bit of Taiwanese in three kings!
Was recommended this place by a friend who rates it's traditional taiwanese dishes and flavours and hearty portion size.
We ordered the Taiwanese pork, curry chicken and salmon steak. All came with rice and side dishes (cabbage, corn, fried egg) They also have 2 pots of savoury and sweet soup for self-service on the side.

Overall, the meal was certainly filling, but I didn't think it was as delicately made as some other Taiwanese eateries in Auckland. Can't complain too much for $10 meals tho!
