Review Newtons Cafe And Noodle Bar - Auckland Central

Ashi Ezz
This restaurant has a diverse menu, featuring dishes from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, along with coffee and burgers. Despite its small size, the food is not only delicious but also offers excellent value for money. I tried their tom yum chicken soup, which was well-balanced and reasonably priced. I would rate it a solid 7 out of 10. However, I encountered an issue when I opted for takeout, as they used paper containers that didn't hold up well during transportation. It resulted in some leakage, especially with the soup. To address this, they should consider switching back to plastic containers or not offering takeout in these paper containers, particularly for soupy dishes. Despite this minor inconvenience, I was able to salvage half of the soup, and it was still delicious.
Bad Advice
Got myself a beef burger with the fries with the sreawberry milkshake . Nuggets with fries and chocolate milkshake for my daughter. Amazingly done. Freash lettuce, cucumber and nice patty. Fries are nicely prepared and salted nice for me (not too much ,not too little). Chickens nuggets nice and crispy. Milkshakes are felt like milkshakes (not like something flavory mixed with water). Nicely whipped and the flavourse are very tasty. Prices are really fair. Really fair. Servers nice and friendly. Will come again. Thank you and goof luck!

I ordered nasi kampung and its really good. Portion sizes are big and doesn’t compromise with the taste either. Def coming back!

This place is incredible. Fresh noodle delivery while we were there.

Authentic Malaysian food. The price was reasonable ($13.5 each) and the portions perfect. Fresh, good quality ingredients. We were treated very kindly also. Will definitely be coming back!

We had our lunch sometime ago. Friendly service. Portion was reasonable and the price was affordable. As for the food they were tasty. We will definitely be back to try other dishes available.

Had Char Kuey Teow and Mee Goreng. Both were good portions and had great 'wok hei'. Ordered medium spicy and it's really spicy. Loved it. For $14.50 per dish, this is a must go to if you love Malaysian food.

Authentic Malaysian taste with normal café fare to boot. Owner/staff were friendly and accommodating. Parking spaces reasonable. Sufficient heat in the dishes (as expected of Malaysian cuisine) which is rare to see in New Zealand. Definitely give it a go if you're keen for some Malaysian dishes!

One of the best Malaysian CKT (Char Kway Teow / Wok Fried Flat Noodles). Great work hei and best and friendliest customer service. Photo of dine in was from late last year. Have been back for a takeaway.

I love the friendly service from the owners , which also added great value in their food. Love the salted chicken fried rice and beef chakweitiau . They re also not as expensive as other malaysian restaurant that serves the same dishes. The portion is also big and the restaurant is closed to where i live which is a plus and walking distance

Love having you guys back! Excellent service. Wait times are just a result of their popularity (I highly recommend phoning your order in advance!!), however it is worth the wait as food is always good :) Burgers are excellent value, and the chips are so crisp. I highly recommend the chicken curry & roti, but for a whole year I wished for their return coz they make a great laksa!

IF you want excellent value, and actually good quality Asian Streetfood Fusion... this place is brilliant . Fresh ingredients , fast and incredibly authentic Streetfood. Ridiculously cheap for what you get.

Really tasty food and the staff are very nice and good prices. I usually like to order extra vegetables (for an extra charge), and they are very happy to accommodate. I really appreciate when food places are willing to tweak things slightly for my taste. Thank you.

Great coffee too. A few of us at work even prefer the coffee here over the fancy cafe's nearby!

Char kuey teow is really good. Cheap and massive portion. Great service and chatty, nice people.

Plastic free packaging.

More text more text More text more text

I’m a lifetime returning customer for their Wah Tan Hor. If you’re a fan of egg gravy it’s a must try!

Other than their big value for money servings the owners are lovely and oh so welcoming.

Most rudest staff I have ever seen, absolutely no customer service skills and extremely unhygienic food, I would never ever recommend this place to anyone 👎👎👎

I Went to the restaurant and asked for tissue, the lady said yes you can have it, as soon as the lady saw me leaving the resturant the followed me and started yelling at me that why the hell did I take tissue when I didn't buy anything from them, I said I asked you before taking the tissue, but the lady kept yelling at me that why i used their tissue when im not buying anything of them. I know i dint not buy anything but I did ask them before taking the tissue. How pathetic is that you going mad just for couple of tissue. Unbelievable behavior the rudest customer service staff I ever came across in newzealand. 👎👎👎👎

Can’t beat the price, the taste, the friendly service and parking at the back for quick pickup. On bonus side the food container is environment friendly too

VERY generous portions for the price. Had Char Kuay Teow and the Malaysian Mee Goreng. Char kuay Teow had a great flavour and was pretty authentic.Friendly service and cute decor. Will definitely go back to try other dishes.

I love this place! A few years ago when I was working in the area I was always a regular here. They closed down for renovation but how glad was I when I visited the area and they were back open for business. Excellent service and food is not only affordable but AMAZING. The curry combo is a favourite and also the eggs benne! They are so generous with the sauce.

I order from them all the time. The food is great, prices are good, and the staff are friendly. Their Wah Tan Hor is addictive, so be careful! :)

I tried the fried Kueh Teow, and it's not too good or too bad for me. The proportion looks small as it is been put in a cube paper box, but actually it's more than enough for me. I only can finish half. Also I think the container is eco-friendly, which is really good. The taste is just on average level. I would say not highly recommended this one, but still acceptable for me.

Got a Yong Foon lunch special for $10.
Fried rice with chicken and shrimp.
Asked for medium spicy.

Pleasant order service.
Too spicy, nearer hot than medium, almost obliterating taste of everything else.
Really stingy on the meat.

Simply the beat Malaysian food outside of KL! The chicken curry and roti bread is beautiful. The roti is soft and flakey and the curry is fragrant. I get it hot and it is not a fake heat its a great depth of flavour. We also had the chicken satay, once again very traditionally done and the satay sauce could almost be drunk itself!!

Little Cafe & Noodle Bar is my go to for cheap takeout. Sweet prices and good food, the couple that run the store are so friendly. Always a great experience.

Probably the most convenient and affordable place on Upper Queen Street. Tastes great. Quantity is very generous. I’m a regular at this place and I love it. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who asks me for a place to go for lunch. Excellent service as well.
The only drawback I found was that a simple burger takes more time to be delivered than a plate of Mee Goreng.
Apart from that, it’s 9/10

This is our workplace's go-to place for lunch and dinner (takeaway). The Malaysian Nasi Goreng and the Singapore Fried Noodles are the best I've ever had. The owners are always super happy and excited to see you and constantly bring a smile to my face. Cute little takeaway boxes, and great value for the quality AND quantity.
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Little cafe and noodle bar that serves amazing authentic Malaysian food. Very popular for their coffee and burgers as well. Great place to drop by and pick up a value and tasty lunch. Recommend to call before you go to avoid Long waiting time as they are usually very busy during lunch time.

We are so happy to have found this place! This is unlike any other noodle bars that we have visited. The place has a lovely, warm cafe-styled ambience. Although it is a takeaway place, I would not have minded dining there!

The front- desk staffs were the loveliest people ever. I ordered a stir-fried flat rice noodles and asked them to make it medium spicy. It was authentic and delicious, with just the right amount of heat. Loved that they were served in old-fashioned brown paper boxes too, both cute and good for the environment!

Besides Malaysian rice and noodles dishes, they also sell other Western-style takeaway food, breakfast, and some cafe items. My friends ordered some spring rolls, fish and chips, and burgers, and they were all impressed. Very keen to come back in the future on lazy days where I don't feel like cooking. Would love to try their milkshakes too ;)

Great little place to grab some lunch on a weekday. Really friendly service, delicious food and reasonable prices. The Char Kueh Teow is awesome.

Awesome and friendly service every time i go here and the food is fantastic.
Highly recommend this place.

Interior is well decorated and they have plenty of bar type seating.

The place is the sort of place you go for takeaway. I think they mainly specialise for takeaway. But I quite like the interior. It gives off a modern cafe look but with a smaller setting. Staff was very friendly and nice. Nice small car park at the side. Ambiance was nice as well.

Food:
Wat Tan Hor (I got) was good. When my dish came out I could smell the burn from the wok and also the gravy was very fragrant, which I really like. It wasn't amazing or like out of the world. But it was still good. I would like to go back and try their other noodle dishes.

Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang looked amazing. The salad there was amazing. That one is 10/10 for me. I would go back just for the salad. It was sour and salty at the same time. I love those kind of salads. Taste wise it was delish, different to the ones in Malaysia but it still had their goodness to it.

Sambal for it wasn't spicy enough for me. Because I cannot eat chilli padi (those tiny red chilli), they are too spicy for me. But the sambal should still be little bit more spicier to add flavour to the dish. It was too sweet for me as well and not salty enough.
They make their own sambal.

I got their banana milkshake and it's good. Lol it taste like banana, not sure how else to describe it.
Had the chicken me goreng and it was DELICIOUS! So much food too. A lot of options to choose from and good prices $$ will be back again to try more of their menu.
Friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere

This is my favourite place to get takeaways for dinner - the food is great and the service is always so welcoming. The best part is that the veges are always fresh and the chicken never has that "reheated" taste.

They don't seem to have much of an online presence which probably makes it less likely for people to find them, but I bet once you try the food you will keep going back!

So happy to have found a cute Malaysian takeaway place in my neighbourhood. The owners are lovely and so friendly it makes me happy to buy from them.

Only ever had their char kuey teow and honestly makes me feel a little bit at home. It is pretty decent for the price I pay.

They also sell coffee and cafe food if you fancy something else :)
Stango
What a great find! Always on the look out for authentic Malaysian food, and this is my most recent favourite.

Good quality char kuey teow with generous portion. The mee goreng is also pretty good and you definitely can't complain about the amount of meat they include.

They advised their spice-ometer is based on Malaysians' idea of spice, so we ordered in medium on our first time here. However, I would say their medium is more of a mild for Malaysians. It could be a little spicier, but it was still good.

Eden Noodles and Cafe also sell Malaysian rice/curry dishes, breakfasts, coffee, and sweet treats and slices. Their brownie is great - and at only $2 it was a great way to finish off dinner without a hugely expensive dessert.

Parking isn't convenient but I'll definitely be back. Thanks for the great feed!

I look forward to revisiting.
