Review Quatro - Auckland Central

shelley adams
I was staying next door and was going to eat at the Quatro after having a coffee there around 10 years earlier... then I saw Google Reviews and was quite put off. However, I ran out of time to find somewhere else, so gave it a go. The service was good, the breakfast was well priced (less than I thought it would be!) and delicious. It arrived quickly (there were not a lot of people in fortunately), and was a generous serving. The coffee was also good. I will definitely be back if I am back in the area.

Nice teas. Good morning breakfast menu. Great central location for a catch up.

Lovely staff who let us in just on close on a wintery afternoon for the solace of coffee and amazing hot chocolate!

My experience here was pleasant, though that was probably due more to the company I was in. While I'm not usually one for 'coffee and a X for whatever amount', I did find that a medium coffee and a reasonably tasty panini was pretty good value. Coffee was fine, and if I was in a pinch, I'd consider going back. In saying that, our coffees did take a fair while to be prepared, and the ambience isn't great. We also definitely felt like we overstayed our welcome after a while, despite the cafe being decidedly empty, so perhaps a 3/5 is a little generous.

My rating on this one is relative to the value in terms of pricing. We got a voucher on Groupon of $9.95, and we purchased the big breakfast. Overall I like this place considering the deal, I wouldn't pay full price though.

THE FOOD

Big Breakfast (3.5/5) - I like the has browns, had the crunch needed, the egg was cooked as requested, sausage and bread pretty decent.

Paleo Breakfast (2/5) - Honestly the worst Iv'e tasted, lacks abit of creativity and suspect this item was only create on the menu to tick a box.

Wedges (3/5) - Pretty Mediocre

Coffee (3/5) - Good but no wow factor here

THE ENVIRONMENT (3/5)
Yeah environment has some pretty decent spacing and its not been to busy where you can't here yourself. I'm somewhat fond of the outdoor area but nothing with wow factor here. Just your typical design for a cage attempting to be contemporary.

THE SERVICE (2/5)
Customer service wise, they are ok. Have not done anything to date that's offensive to date. BUT my score is based on how several times the glasses or cutlery were not cleaned well. Other than that it's fine.

I went this this week, asked for a BIG BREAKFAST, and did have a Voucher to use. It did say on the Menu that I would have mushrooms, tomato and Baked Beans, but this was not on my plate. I didn't complain, but wondered, 'was it because I used a coupon'? I will go there again, and see if it happens next time. It is handy to the Race Track and Train Station, and what food they did give me was o.k.

Worst experience at a Cafe I have ever had. Cafe itself was cold and unwelcoming. Leather couches peeling, paint chipping. Ordered a Thai Beef salad and a Big Breakfast. Took 30+ mins wait for the two meals with only two tables of people in the entire cafe. Thai salad was missing crispy noodles, drowning in dressing and Tomato old and soggy. Eggs were saturated in vinegar and cold. Didn't even eat it, when we asked to complain - the waitress lied and said there was no manager on Duty. Finally someone who the waitress said was the owner came out, and again lied, saying she was not the owner when we later found out that she was. She raised her voice at us, argued and yelled at us for complaining. No apology, nothing. Completely shocked at this. Horrible place. Will never, ever return.

First time try out this cafe yesterday for lunch. I ordered a prawn & scallops pan fried scallop spinach in creamy sauce, served & seasonal salad $19.50. The dish had only 3 small shrimps, 1 scallop and the rest of the plate filled up with cooked broccoli with flooded yellow sauce plus two standard hash browns. There was no side salad. The whole meal was below standard. The dish wasn't what it describes on the manu. On top of that they charged an extra $2 for this dish for the Groupon voucher holder. I was very disappointed and I won't be going back there again.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday. The food was very overpriced for what was given. The meal was cold and could see from where we were sitting that they were just microwaving most of it.

We ordered and asked the staff multiple times to confirm the order, one meal never came and was told we never ordered it, despite the staff member nodding and agreeing each time I asked.
Shocking service. .I certainly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food was fine but the Asian woman that served us made us feel very unwelcome. It's in a lovely setting too so it was such a shame that she spoiled the whole experience. The cigarette butts all over the ground didn't do it any favours either

Absolutely disgusted. Walked in for coffee and cake to be ignored by the lady on the phone sitting behind the counter and the chef. Absolutely no acknowledgement at all, we waited by the counter to still be ignored, so left to still not even have any acknowledgement. Seems the girl behind the counter was more interested in her personal phone call than actually doing the job she's paid to do

Here for a coffee & a chocolate slice. Coffee wasn't hot & cake too tough, but taste was good. Where else can I find a better cafe closeby? Realistically it's unfair to write a review based on what I had.

Surprised by the low rate for this place. I came here with a voucher a few months back. It was not very busy but it is a good location for the surrounding businesses, hotel and racetrack. Food and coffee was good and they had a good range of cabinet food on display. Had an outdoor area

Went in on Friday to treat my mum to brunch. The place looked nice, service was quick but the food was decidedly average. Mum's eggs bene was fine, if basic, however my Paleo breakfast with bacon was a huge disappointment. Was still going to give 3 stars because the eggs were perfectly poached and the coffee was decent but I noticed that another reviewer (Lauren, 6 months ago) posted a picture of the Paleo breakfast which looks absolutely nothing like what I received. Rather than beautifully presented on a plate, as shown in Lauren's picture, it was jumbled together in a bowl, so was effectively fried mushroom, bacon, tomato and eggs on a big bed of dry salad, which I found odd. The spinach (which I expected to be cooked and looks cooked in Lauren's picture) turned out to be raw baby spinach added to the salad and the teeny-tiny slice of avocado was unripe and unpleasant. No seasoning in any component of the dish made it terribly bland and unappetizing. To charge people $19.50 for the dish I was served is insane!

Puzzling as to the difference between the pictured dish and the one I got - perhaps it was because we had a Groupon voucher so weren't considered to be proper customers deserving of the usual high standard? We have another voucher so will give it a second shot but will definitely not be going for the Paleo breakfast again!

Had a business lunch here. I had the Steak Sandwich and a Flat White, my colleague had a salad and juice. Really good portions and delicious. It wasn't too busy but had a nice atmosphere. The staff were really attentive and the music was just right. A great location to meet people as its right by the motorway. I'll definitely come back with the family.

Pretty good cafe, came here for brunch with friends as one of them had a voucher. Good quality food and presented well- not too much that stands out but good portions but with typical cafe prices. Service was quick, I think because it wasn't too busy. Not sure if I'll return again but was a pleasant experience ( I think mainly because of the voucher though to be honest).

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!! I have been to quatro in the past but not for a long time, the food was good the first time. After the first time i swore i would never go back there again but many months later i decided to give it another chance, to my regret. The asian lady with short hair on the counter is the rudest person i have ever come across. Reason i decided i was never going back after the first time, i did not write a review after my first visit however after reading plenty of other reviews about her in particular i thought surely she is not still working there. I quickly learnt on arrival today that she is and she is no different to my first visit. On my first visit my partner and i walked past her on the way in as she sat outside smoking a cigarette (not knowing she was counter staff) we stood at the counter waiting to be served, then after she finished her cigarette she came in to serve us. As soon as my partner said we have a groupon voucher she rolled eyes and yelled to someone out the back "great we have another voucher" very rudely while she was coughing and sniffing. I do admit on this first visit the food was good. Because of my customer service experience i did not want to go back there again but today i thought i would give it another chance as i did not think it was possible that she would last there very long with her attitude and rudeness to customers. Todays visit, i walked in and straight to the counter, she looked at me for a second then just walked away (not even just a simple, "ill be with you in a minute") then when she finally came back after about 4 minutes i presented to her the voucher but i had accidentally opened the wrong page in my groupon app which really frustrated her and she became very impatient with me. When she brought our food out she dropped basically threw the plates onto our table and marched off. I honestly dont know how this person still works here, her attitude is outrageous. If you would like to do your cafe to succeed i would eliminate this person, because of her you have lost me as a customer and by reading the other reviews i am not the only customer you have lost because of this individual dragging your business down

I've gone to Quatro quite allot lately it's been nice. How ever I am never coming back and neither are any of my friends after today. I have worked a long time in hospo so I know when a worker is just stressed but this south east Asian lady today with short hair was unbelievably rude to the point where I was so uncomfortable, I just wanted to leave straight away before my food even came out. Disgusting attitude and can see from other reviews it's a continuous thing... GET RID OF HER BECAUSE YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY LOSING ALLOT OF CUSTOMERS.

Coffee was great. I only had a chicken and cranberry fold over to eat. It was good although i must admit i was almost about to crack my tooth. There was some kind of a seed in it. And it hurt like hell. Service was good . Keep up the good work and maybe check the food bedore serving ☺️

One of the best cafés I have been to in auckland. Not only are the waitstaff super friendly, the coffee is amazing, and service is so fast. I ordered French toast (so good) and the other dish is the paleo breakfast which my sister thoroughly enjoyed.

Our experience was not a happy one. First, you can only book for dinner on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. So we booked for Friday. We had a voucher for a "Bistro dinner", and it seemed like a good deal.We arrived, and told to sit anywhere, which was easy, as the only other people was a large party in one part, so we went for the quietest warmest spot in the corner.Ambience was quite bland, casual, but seemed clean and tidy. Probably better during the day than at night. We were handed menus, and were told our voucher was any mains dish. Selection was not huge, so we both went for the steak. Mine was to be medium rare and my wife's to be rare. Service was a little impersonal, but efficient enough - a smile or two might have helped.A nice Yalumba Shiraz at a reasonable price for a bistro was delivered smartly. Our steaks arrived in good time, and looked great. A large bed of mashed potatoes, sliced assorted vegetables, and a steak on top. Quite a lot of gravy, mushroom flavoured.Ah yes. The steak. Oh dear.Mine was hard to cut and quite chewy. More medium than medium rare. However, my wife could not even cut hers, even with the supplied serrated edge knife. It seemed to be more medium rare than rare.So we called the waitress over, and convinced her it was just not edible. To her credit, she removed the meal, and ordered the replacement. In the meantime I valiantly chewed away at mine. Some of it was just gristle, but some was edible if I chewed enough. The new steak arrived, cooked correctly this time, but still as tough as old boots. The waitress brought us a complimentary glass of wine as an apology.Giving up, and being hungry, we chewed away at our "succulent rump steak", and left the chewed inedible bits on the plate, impossible to swallow. At the end of the meal my wife took her plate to the counter to show the remains and mentioned what a shocking piece of meat it was. Surprised looks from the waitress, but they did credit us one glass of wine, as well as the freebie. Can't comment on any of the other meal choices, starters, or deserts. We just did not want anything else! So, sadly, a disappointing meal out for us.

It was what I expected after seeing the decor and general condition of the place. Food very average and streak was cooked badly, and my wife's fish was also well over done. No excuses really as we were the only ones in the whole place.
Was tempted to try out with a voucher but would never go back again.

Could not believe how rude the lady(short hair) at the counter was - She rolled her eyes when I stated we had a groupon voucher - then said " yeah, yeah another voucher" bitterly to someone in the kitchen so that we could hear, sniffing and coughing she then snatched at my phone before the voucher had loaded. We had read on the voucher (online) the menu but this was not the same menu at the cafe which was fine but there were only 8 breakfast options no lunch options whereas online there was about 16 options. The berry smoothie and eggs bene I had was cooked and presented well and I was impressed and my partners big breakfast he enjoyed. But I wouldn't recommend this cafe to friends even though I rated my breakfast - the service made me feel uncomfortable and to be honest if I hadn't brought the voucher I would not have stuck around to try the food.

Used a discount voucher today at this cafe and was dubious as not had a great deal of success with online vouchers, but was really impressed with not only the service but the food and coffee. This wasn't cabinet food but items from the menu. Look forward to returning

It's hard to believe how terrible this cafe is and yet continues to stay afloat. They must be relying on the medical crowd who work in the medical centre next door. Service is terrible, unfriendly and they don't listen so mess up the orders. Last time I went the person behind the till didn't have the skills to work it. My order of a muffin and a bagel then took 15 mins, and I waited engulfed in cigarette smoke drifting in from the patio. The muffin was scalding hot, the butter had a glob of something green on it, and I was given no takeaway knife for either that or the bagel. I really hope it gets an overhaul soon, as it's the only place for a coffee near the medical centre (but so not worth it yeuck)
Alison Moffitt
Went down for a coffee and snack for lunch. Asked for a muffin not heated and no butter. Muffin arrived heated and butter with it and was told it was a chocolate muffin, only to find out it was a banana choc chip muffin. Hot chocolate was disgusting. Only chocolate flavor was the topping, rest was water. Colleague came with me and ordered a mocha. Mocha was burnt and watery and disgusting. Prices were overpriced. $9 for a pie. Would never go back here again.

All in all I find Quatro Cafe to be a very pleasant dining experience with great service and food. Whether you’re just after a quick coffee, light snack or a proper lunch meal they've got it covered. The courtyard outside is lovely to enjoy with plenty of place to accommodate. Plenty of options for vegetarians, on request they made a vege burger that was absolutely delish. Used my vouchers a couple of times, never let me down! I can definitely recommend this place.

I used a voucher here on 3rd Jan, and was really happy with service and food. My partner and I go somewhere different for eggs benedict every weekend, and this place is now in our top ten. Super fast service (we got there at 10am) and happy to see they made their own hollandaise sauce. Just lovely.

Came here to use a deal voucher.

Food is terrible. Place is dirty. Service is bad. There's no fresh food sitting in the cabinets at the counter. All food is to be ordered off the menu.

The Big Breakfast consisted of bacon that had been sitting around for ao ling that it all broke up when it was cut into. The sausage is deep fried and was cold in the middle and the whole plate was covered in enough mushroom sauce to be dripping off the plate.

The corn fritters tasted like bland bricks of dough.

Really disappointed. Enough said.
Tammy
We used the voucher for breakfast today, too many people there, we were waiting about half hour, but the breakfast was good , looks good on the plate, nice poached eggs and creamy mushroom, we will come back again.
Pauline Bennett
Used a voucher and we both had the quatro breakfasts. There was nothing out of the ordinary here, everything looked good on the plate, and the creamy mushrooms were really delicious. It was a big breakfast and we couldn't eat it all ! The service is good and the outdoor seating is spacious.

Went for lunch with a deal voucher. Ordered a pizza and a burger. The burger was passable. But the pizza was the worst pizza I have ever seen or tasted. It looked dark and was difficult to identify what ingredients were in it, worst of all it was sitting in oil. It looked and taste like it was deep fried. $18 for this small pizza is a rip off, I can get a bigger and better qualify pizza for $4.90 at pizza hut. It was the most unhealthy thing I have ever tasted!
Service didn't add any points to the place either. The girl came over to ask us how everything is but kept saying no, they do not add any oil to the pizza, cant she see it is sitting in a pool of oil?
What a shame this nice venue has been let down by the poor food and management.

Hubby & I have been here twice now in the last couple of months with a breakfast and coffee voucher. Both times we were greeted warmly. Our coffees arrived promptly with a smile, both times hot and very good quality. Breakfasts (had the same both times, eggs benedict and quatro breakfast) excellent, both for quantity and quality. Delicious, absolutely no complaints from us.
They have a good sized indoor area and an excellent outdoor area (if you are lucky enough to pick a good weather day).
It seems very popular with the businesses close by and if you were planning a function there it is easy to get to, being just off the offramp at Greenlane.
I have no hesitation in recommending Quatro as we have had a most enjoyable experience on our visits and I thank you and your staff for your friendliness and the opportunity to give your cafe a try.
Kathryn Price
I had lunch here a couple of months ago; a salad sandwich and coffee. The sandwich was mostly salad greens without dressing and the bread was no fresh. This is not somewhere I would return. I suspect this cafe has changed hands at some point in the last year or two as it used to be very good.

I had an unpleasant service experience here. After waiting 10mins for four coffee's take-away at 8.30am I complained and was told it was my fault because I had not told them I was in a hurry........ unbelievable. When I pointed out that this is poor customer service speaking to me in this manner, the man behind the counter stared at me and looked as though he wanted to ask me to leave! I work in one of the many offices surrounding this cafe and don't have time to wait that long for four coffee's. I have done this type of work and it was an unnaturally long time, even if they did have five other coffees to make before mine as claimed by him. Absolutely ridiculous, I am so disappointed that this cafe just cant seem to get it right with their staff, I really hope this man is not the new owner. I suggest he attends a customer service course through Kiwi Host and learns how to speak to people that ultimately pay his wages. I was not acknowledged by this man when I finally got my coffee's and left.

This cafe has a lovely courtyard area which in summer would be a great place to eat. The menu is pretty dated with pizza, pasta, nachos, etc and a few salad mains, steak sandwich, burger. Would have been a good place to take kids as the food would appeal, but the prices are too high. This is cafe food with restaurant pricing.
I had a very nice spiced lamb shwarma with mint yogurt sauce, but the pita was dry and tough. The sirloin steak with mushroom sauce was served with beautiful fries and salad, but was way too expensive at $28 for what was a basic cafe meal. Also it was ordered rare but was cooked medium, but very tasty all the same. The one waiter did a great job for the 12 customers and the lone cook also did a commendable job getting meals out in an acceptable time frame. Perhaps the owners need to relook at the menu & pricing as the courtyard setting is very appealing.

Went here for brunch a few weeks ago. Got eggs benedict. Service was good. One thing i noticed is that the bacon was cooked properly (i.e. crispy) which is a rare thing. If you like a good long black I would also recommend this place. The barrista is excellent.

had gone for brunch one saturday morning a couple of weeks ago. Had a vege stack and cajun fries which was full of flavour, and well presented. Washed down with an Orange juice to complete a unique mouthwatering meal. Service is fair, and free Wi-Fi was a bonus too. Atmosphere is chilled and outdoor area is cool too...

We recently walked here on a warm winter Sunday morning. We sat outside in the sheltered courtyard - which is huge, and sheltered from the road by trees and shrubs.

The service was excellent - they took our orders quickly, delivered the food quickly and even came and checked everything was ok - which isn't that common in a cafe now days. Free wireless Internet as well.

We ordered two breakfasts, and the food was perfectly acceptable - standard cafe style breakfasts. A nice spicy sausage on the big breakfast which was a nice change from some of the bland offerings elsewhere.

I hadn't read the other reviews before we went there - probably lucky as I may not have gone! But, happily our experience was different, we were very happy and will be going back!
Dan
I met here at 7.00 when they opened for business, I was apprehensive after reading the reviews, I mentioned this to the staff, and they are fully aware of the bad rating.
The sign did say under new management which i took heart in.

Does it deserve such a poor rating? The answer is probably not really, was it good, no it was not great and I won't go back.

We were the first customers in the door, we ordered immediately and it took 20 mins for the food to come.
I ordered the eggs Benedict, it came with two eggs, two pieces of toast and two half tomatoes and that was it,
It was tiny, no sauce, no greens, nothing, ridiculous, as there was no salt or pepper it was plain and boring.
On the plus the eggs were perfectly done.
I had hot chocolate this was fine.

The thing you can tell about the place is that there is no love for the place, there is no owner there who is making sure the service and everything is cared for.
The poor chef is young and inexperienced and clearly does not know what he is doing.

What the place needs is the manager to be there managing the place on a micro level, they need to employ a chef with experience and they need to really clean the place and give it some pizazz.

The location is superb the staff do there best, however staff are only ever a reflection of management and it is obvious the management don't care or don't know how to transform a place.

I have been to worse, of your desperate it's fine, if you want something nice go somewhere else.

I went in for breakfast and I wont be going back. The waitress took a very long time to serve me, and there were only about 3 people in the cafe. She was unfriendly and you could see she really doesnt enjoy her job. I ordered scrambled eggs on toast with tomato and when it finally came out, there was a lot off egg with one tiny half tomato. It was so dry and bland and really quite average. I was very unimpressed and I would not reccomend this to anyone.
Jill
Just the worst place I have been too in ever. I brought my 2 year old son here and we sat out side. There were probably four umbrellas available which were entirely inadequate. I will never go back because it was just the most unprofessional cafe I have been too.
Phillie Delott
We organised a team breakfast at Quatro on a Wednesday morning for 14 of us and it was very pleasant. Our waitress was very good to us, always checking to see if we needed anything. The barista/manager Blair made great coffees and was very helpful and we are even thinking of holding our next product launch in the large courtyard area. Great atmosphere and the free wi-fi was a bonus!
Mary
The service and atmosphere of this place was the worst I have ever experienced. I walked in and felt very unwelcome from the start. I had to throw my coffee in the rubbish because it was terrible. The staff seemed like they couldn't care less that I was unhappy. I think that it could be a really nice place, if it was owned by a someone who actually trained their staff. Rather than hiring any old Joe and leaving them to it.
Forch
This was the first restaurant I ever walked out of. That happened 2 years ago we spent 10 minutes there and none of the staff even acknowledged our presence. When I walked out another table of 4 followed. My recent experience was almost as bad. We wondered if we have to pay more to get the staff to smile. We were first in for breakfast but it took 40 minutes before we received our meals. The plates looked as if the food had been thrown at them from a great distance. The food was very ordinary rather than bad. I wish this place was wasn't dissapointing as it is close to home but now that I have been embarrassed by taking friends there I won't return. If you had a zero star rating this place would surely earn it!
StephN
This is the most hopeless place I have ever been to. It's got a 'B' and as soon as you walk in you can see why. The staff are obviously unhappy and take there time serving you. There are flies every were, the glasses are dirty and the food in the cabinet looks disgusting.

I walked out it was gross
