Review Cafe Windsor - Auckland Central

I've bought my boy here for 2 years. It's a great comfortable place for kids to play while you can have coffee and breakfast. Staff are 10/10. Just had my son's birthday here, big thanks to the staff for booking it in and facilitating the venue for us.

Great cafe to take kids to, outdoor playground which is safely fenced and secure. Indoor play area for little ones which is good also. Indoor and outdoor seating plus big umbrellas which they put up in summer so you can sit outside but under the shade. Inside there is plenty of seating and room for prams etc. Food is good but they really let themselves down when it comes to catering for allergies/vegetarians/vegans. My children all have severe allergies and we are also vegan so there really aren't too many options for us there. I always take a lunchbox for my kids and the great thing is the staff don't mind me (and others) taking in food for kids based on these reasons

The food is average, but this cafe is the most child friendly in Auckland. So safe and so much for kids to do. One of the few places you can really enjoy your coffee while not worrying about your child.

Yummy food, limited menu. Very kid friendly with an indoor and outdoor play area. Very good kids menu. Often very busy which can mean it's hard to hear conversations with your friends at times

You guys deserve the five stars! It's the only place I found on the shore, and not for lack of looking, that is truly small child orientated - my kids are older now but please keep doing what you're doing because I think for mum's like me cafe Windsor is a bit of a lifeline.

Great place for family time. Kids love playing in the playground and nice coffee and food for adults and kids. Staff are friendly.

Great place to take your children. Lots of space around the table for prams, a small playground for kids and a outside area. Coffee is alright.

Great place to go with small kids. Lots of space and indoor and outdoor play ground. Menu simple but good.
Stephen Thomas
Great indoor and outdoor playground for kids, plenty of seating inside and out, one of the best family friendly cafes on the north shore
Clare Laing
Good place. Not sure if it has paper menus? This would have been helpful. Great for kids under 8.
Jelena Simic
Prices too high for food, except coffee. Playground outside and inside. Toilets are small but fairly clean
Ceci Frankland
Great place for kids with outdoor and indoor playground, space for prams, etc. Food is ok
Linda Kneale

Great cafe to take kids. Just dont understand why the cafe closes at 2 pm. That's s a shame.
Penny-Laine Calitz
Lovely café. Lovely food. Lovely staff. Wonderful that the kids can play.

Great to meet up with friends and my daughter loves the indoor and outdoor playground.

I love this cafe. Good food, good coffee and great play stuff for the kids

Nice people and cafe Convenient to drop in with a couple of small play areas for young children

We write reviews of child-friendly cafés, and caféwindsor is easily the leader of the café pack in this regard! Such a great place for parents with babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. I particularly appreciate the fast service, and the child-sized smoothie and milkshake options. Check out Kiwi Café Kids for our review. :-)

Always a great place to go with the kids!

Such a great destination cafe! Kids always have a ball which means we can relax & enjoy our coffee & cakes :) x

Great coffee, great atmosphere, great food. What more do you need. This is the perfect location if you need to entertain young children and chat with adults too.

I'm here so often that the staff must be starting to think I'm a stalker! The play areas keep the kids entertained for ages, which means I'm free to actually enjoy that coffee. Parents with small children can't say that very often. Lovely atmosphere too, open and light. Keep up the good work guys :-)

Whilst this is a great child friendly caf space and activity wise, the service was nothing but slack, no greetings or word spoken at the counter when ordering, food and coffees we were made to remove from the serevers tray in the air ourselves whilst wrangling babies. Was also a serious lack of food and at 11am 8 of us were looking forward to a nice brunch, not just a muffin and a $10 half a panini. We were told it was a full cafe menu, so i guess things have changed. Unfortunately for the worst. We will be back for brief coffee meetings but just want to warn others of this if you are expecting more.

Place - atmosphere playground - seating - kids entertainment value 10/10

Food - HORRENDOUS!!!
Stone cold "hot cakes" , served with Plenty of berry compote and yoghurt and maple which was nice - but seriously unenjoyable stone cold!
Friends bacon and eggs - bacon way over cooked - and the coffee was SO late coming to the table we had already finished our meal
Before we got them!
I honestly think they should concentrate on to yummy treats in the bakery style
Cabinet and FORGET about cooking food!
Probably the most disappointing breakfast I've ever had.

And baby gates installed WAY too low - not keeping anyone safe with that!

If you don't have kids, do NOT come here. It was pretty overwhelming and I have two! However, this is a mamas' coffee group paradise! I say mamas because there were zero men which is unsurprising as it would do hubby's head in. Nevertheless, there are Wide open spaces, lovely staff, loads of toys, books and gated playgrounds for kids to run rampant. And NO-ONE gives a hoot that kids are everywhere. And the best thing is, the place is clean, nice and not as crazy as lollipops. Great food choices for kids (fruit kebabs, cupcakes, etc); coffee is actually very decent but the adult food is meh. Either way, if you're a first time mother and need somewhere to feel normal: this is it.

A church run child friendly cafe and it's great ! Good all press coffee , food is is not anything technical . And surprisingly it is much quieter than normal cafés when you take your children because they can play !!! Wish there was more child friendly places !

Becoming way too pricey and service is becoming too slow. I used to go there a lot but it's gone down hill a lot over the years. Always takes so long to get my coffee and my coffee is always finished by the time my food comes.

Based next to (and run by) the Baptist Church, Cafe Windsor makes it clear from the get go that they are all about families. From the child gates blocking escapees getting to the car park to the outdoor playground, the indoor play area to the multiple high chairs available; this is definitely your low stress option if you are out with kids on the Shore.

Service is at the counter, the menu is fairly limited but they also offer a range of cabinet food. As we were there for morning tea I selected a slice of rocky road (my kryptonite) and a flat white. The bowl full of baby food jars made me smile; it's simple but a really nice touch. My order was delivered promptly, the rocky road a little heavy on the chocolate to "rocky" proportion but the coffee was spot on.

Change facilities for babies are available outside the bathroom, meaning dads can take their turn too. A couple of smaller activity toys in the outdoor playground would make it suitable for all ages, currently it would suit kids two and older. This is definitely a cafe designed with families in mind and I can see us returning in future.

Waited 18 minutes for a takeaway coffee, then they got it wrong!!!!!!

Brilliant. Great place to take the kids. You can sit and relax knowing the children are safe and enjoy a coffee and something to eat. There is a great play area for the children both inside and outside so no matter what the weather is its a great place to go with young children.

Fabulous restaurant! I could leave my kids to play in the garden area all afternoon and they loved it! However, I found it a bit hard to distinguish staff due to the lack of uniform. I would recommend having a uniform top to wear so the public can distinguish staff easily. Thanks for a good lunch!

What a super cafe - lovely, friendly staff and even though I still have to get up and watch my 14 month old due to his curiosity (sorry to the Mum who let her 3 year old out of her sight, but even though the cafe is child friendly it's not meant to give Mum's a holiday from watching over their children and walking out of open gates - that is a daycare centre you are thinking of) it was still a lovely place to go and catch up with friends knowing that my boy could run wild without any danger lurking nearby. Lots of other lovely kiddies to play with and when he is older he is going to love the jungle gym area - not to mention the food and coffee are a++. Thanks Cafe Windsor - see you soon! :)

Great Cafe Great food but NOT kid safe.

I have a almost 3 year old whom I found in the carpark of the Windsor Cafe as someone had left the door open. I went to tell the staff and they said due to wheelchair access they cannot lock the side door – what??? when I mentioned squashed kids they just shrugged shoulders. This is a Cafe I will visit with my kids but no longer under the SAFE illusion shame because I love everything about it but I want somewhere I can watch the kids and not worry if I cant visually see one for a few minutes!

Excellent cafe, definitely best in the area, after bad experience in another child cafe on the beach front in Browns Bay. This place is in another league - great service, food and atmosphere. Great place to go with a group of mum's without being made to feel rushed and prices are reasonable for what you get. Highly recommend to all.

I had been to the Cafe a few times when my son was a baby (about 18 months ago) and found it ok. I went recently with my new baby and was shocked when I saw a little girl who could only just walk being let out of the gate to the car park by an older child. I had to run out and get the little girl (she only looked about a year old). I looked around for her mum and could not find her so just took her to the play area inside. I think that mums feel their children are safe as it is a child friendly place, however the gates are very low and bigger children can open them. I have been once more however I am very wary and do not let my toddler out of my site.

Had to take the time to review this cafe. After a negative experience my coffee group had at a 'child friendly' cafe in browns bay, this place is fantastic. We have always felt welcome, the food is fab, the atmosphere is buzzy and fine for wet weather or sunny days. Even have a roving nurse some days to answer mummy questions! Our coffee group meets there every week now. 2 small gripes- speed of ordering and getting food. It can be really slow service- surely they know they are popular now? Still totally recommend though.

Great child friendly atmosphere and safe outside play area. Some of the food is a bit pricey considering it is aimed at Mums and kiddies, but they make a good coffee.

Had my sons 1st birthday party there a few weeks ago. The platters (adult food) were fantastic, the kids muffins lovely, the staff fantastic. Can't rave enough.

This was the best berry smoothie I have ever tasted! Really good price too - am taking my teens there this weekend!

Excellent place to have coffee group.

I read about Cafe Windsor in a Treasures magazine. A friend & I checked it out and thought it was great! Loads of space for bubs to crawl and kids to play. Fantastic place for coffee groups. Great menu, great coffee and great staff! A must visit for all parents.

This is a fantastic place to take kids and relax. I went there with my 10 month old and could have a coffee whilst she crawled around on the floor. They have good food and coffee and great toys and books for the kids to play with. The place is massive and has an outdoor playground as well which is quite impressive for older children. Overall i cannot rave enough about it. My daughter had a muffin that went all over the floor, however it was not a worry they just quietly swept it up, after apologising they said that it happens all the time - that it what i loved about it - very kid friendly - Top star rating from me

This cafe knows how to make a strong flavoursome flat white with professional crema. It's also a perfect spot for parents with young children, as there are plenty of toys, colouring activities and space to run around.
