Review Gong Cha Lorne Street - Auckland Central

Henry
My go-to Gong Cha, its nice and cozy and really nice atmosphere, its pretty clean and the staff are very friendly. Here is the gingerbread man bottle! Very cute.

Quality Bubble Tea shop. Friendly staff member whom served us today. I personally found the top seller list very helpful as the menu felt overwhelming. I went for the Green melon milk tea and it was delicious!

If there is a single place that has done nothing but bring me joy on both my best and worst days; it’s Gong cha Lorne street. The joy this place gives me, the consistency of my favourite drink always being top tier- as well as any new one is enough to keep me coming back. As a strong Gong cha enthusiast, lover and devotee I must recommend with unwavering support.

Nice selection of drinks but when we were there it wasn't running very well. Plenty of staff but just not serving up the drinks. With the taro milk tea you have an option of the taro cube which gives it the "real taro" texture. This branch seems to always be busy but we were able to grab some items for takeaway. The menu is the same as the other branches. Like the other branches, you order at the counter and wait for the number to be called. They also stamp the loyalty card here, The tea was nice as were the pearls. I tried the mango green tea and it had the mango flavour. It was a nice place to grab some bubble tea to bring to the cinemas.

In my opinion, Gong Cha serves the best milktea in town especially their Milk foam wintermelon with pearls. Their pearl milk tea is also good if you want to get something basic. I tried their Dirtea fresh milk black tea and for my taste it is a bit too much since a lot is going on in one drink. Fast service even though there is a queue.

Always love going to gong cha! Great service, though the staff are sometimes hard to understand because they speak quite quietly. However, the drinks always come out fast and are all high quality!

Ordered honey dew milk tea with bubble and coconut! It was super yammy! Here gong cha is pretty large too!
TheNZLILY
Beautiful pearl with milk tea is my favourite. We visited on weekday at 11:30am, it took around 20minutes from put order to enjoy the tea.

TBH I am gongcha addict so I loved my Dirtea. Prices for gongcha are same everywhere. The ambience of this store is what makes it diffrent for me to come in every time. Amazing staffs unlike some other branches.
Belinda Clarke
Gong Cha has amazing drinks at reasonable prices. I will always go back for when I need a treat. The menu is so wide, and they always have new special yummy drinks every couple of weeks.
Xia Robert
very terrible service on queens street ,dead face Koreans ,very disappoint .

Dear gongcha, It would be lovely if you open in Christchurch!! Lots of us waiting for you here! Please do consider this comment!

Best drinks ever. Hands down. And also lovely people with good service and most importantly always smiling which is a bonus. Lorne st in Auckland city is where I go love, love, love it

Best milk tea in Auckland

Had it twice already. Best drink place in town. Hope the quality doesn't decline!

Fav. Tea Shop, 'Most' of the people who work there are really nice and great. My fav will always be No 4 Oolong signature with milk foam :) great job
Cyrus Liew
I feel the passion and patient in every workers here, they really make me WOW!

Enjoyable drink with nice service

From China to NZ, always love Gong Cha!

Your cheap, go-to milk tea place. Although queue times are long, they make your order quite fast. My favourite would be the QQ Passionfruit tea or Wintermelon tea with basil seeds.

Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3/5
Service - 3/5

I order their brown sugar bubble tea (no ice, 30% sugar), shake it a little before drinking. Gongcha is more affordable but has guaranteed tastiness than other bubble tea stores. There are only a few tables in the Lorne St Gong cha.
Service is quick and friendly. The store has air conditioning so perfect for summer
Lydia In Wonderland
The taro milk tea i ordered tastes exactly the same as Assam milk tea packet bought from grocery store, why did i spent 5 dollars on this I ask myself.
Tony Ma
Easy access location. Downside is there is usually a long line with students. Apart from that can’t complain. They still make the best value pearl milk tea in the country.

Service: 4/5
Environment: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Drink Quality: 5/5
Drink Quantity: 5/5

I got %30 sugar and it is still a very very sweet drink

I love Gong cha! I've tried a few different drinks from here but my favourite would be the Longan Red Date cold drink! My friend recently introduced me to it and I only order this now. No sugar is added to it because it's quite sweet on its own.
K
Staff are always lovely. Queues are usually quite long around lunchtime but service is usually quite quick. As a Taiwanese I find the drinks very authentic and the quality is consistent every time. Recommend!
MCP
A lovely little shop, their milk tea always consistent, u can adjust the ice and sugar level. The shop is well lit and clean. They’re always busy but also quick to serve the order.

I love going to Gong Cha over other Milk Tea places, just because I enjoy the "Tea" side of their Milk Tea.

Atmosphere: 3/4
Have to be around in CBD, don't expect any free carpark around the place. The place is casual and can cater for small groups; sometimes a bit hard to get a seat.

Food: 4/4
I personally love to get Taro Milk Tea with Taro cubes; Taro cubes can be added for free, no additional cost. You can taste the Taro from the drink alot more with the cubes.

Service: 3/4
Average service, not bad or great.

Cost: 4/4
Around $6~7 a drink; similar to other Milk Tea places.

Recomend to anyone who is around Auckland CBD. Highly recommend trying their Taro Milk Tea with Taro cubes if you like having Taro Milk Tea.

Favourite Gong Cha in Auckland. Been coming here since 2015 and I don't think I've ever been disappointed with my order.
Staff are great and same with the drinks.
Angelica Starina
Very busy!!! For a reason:) the customer service is good service if you imagine a busy place. Staff are friendly especially this one guy (not sure of his nme sorry) but he opened the store early when he saw my friends and i standing outside waiting lol! Flavours are always great and i prefer Gong Cha’s Taro Milk Tea over any other bubble tea places :) 4/5 bc it gets cramped and the shop itself is too small
Asianfoodie
I don't think you can ever get enough with gong cha. Love the variety in the menu. Have tried most and my favourites would be the honey milk tea, QQ passionfruit, and the mango yoghurt. The hot honey milk tea with pearls is a gem during the winter season.

Bubble Tea had taken the world by storm in the 1990s and it continues its legacy until now. I remember this was extremely popular in Manila during those times and people rave about it. Many years later it started to go out of Asia and into the other parts of the world like New Zealand where it just start to become popular in the last couple of years.
Louise
The most common place to come for uni students on a study break or lunch break!
The lines here are absolutely insane, sometimes the tables can be a little sticky too, but I feel when the lines go out the door, there’s little that can be done about sticky tables.

This branch of gongcha is one of my favourites simply because it’s the closest one to UoA and also have left happy every time.

I highly recommend Mango Yogurt with white pearls 0% sugar!
💓 K
I love Gong Cha! This is one of my go-to bubble tea place! I have tried most flavors from their milk tea series and the drinks are all delicious, my favorite is definitely the Earl Grey w 3J, I order it all the time. Also tried their halloween and other seasonal series which also taste yum and creative. The Lorne St store is bigger, it’s got lots of table inside to order and chill with friends. The staff are always friendly and waiting time isn’t too long even when they’re really busy. Awhile ago tried their egg waffles and it wasn’t that great thou.

4.5/5 Taste
4.5/5 Display
4.5/5 Quantity
4.5/5 Customer Service

Best Bubble Tea shop in NZ

I never came across any problem with Gongcha so far, all their drinks are decent, I was never aftaid to try new drinks here.
Most of the times their staff can speak good english, by looking at all the shops opening up, I can see that they are dominating the market thesedays.
Update:
i ordered a taro milk tea on 30%. It is the sweetest milk tea I've had in my life!! I complained and the lady tried to explain it like it was my fault and i should've chosen 0%. I eat a shit tonne of chocolates n ice cream everyday so i can handle my sugar but this drink tasted exactly like sugar syrup. You guys have the worst drink makers out of all gong chas. The only ones where 30% sugar can taste sweeter than 100% AND u never take customer complaints seriously.

I can't wait for uni to open gong cha so i can still thinking about coming to this.

Original:

Their bubble teas are nice, but my favourite is the taro smoothie. I have tried all their milk teas too and they are usually good.

Downside? Sometimes I wonder what the point is when you guys ask us for sugar level because a lot of the time, 30% tastes exactly like 100% sugar!

Also, i wish we were able to change sugar levels for smoothies. The fruit flavoured smoothies are so sweet, It's almost gross... I asked if they could just put a bit less syrup. Why not??
Ivan
Nothing but 5 stars... all staffs are legends and amazing!! 10/10 would recommend!! Great spot to go to chill friends and superb perks and fast service!

Cheaper than other milk tea shop but still have the best quality. I love fresh milk oolong tea with black pearl and lemon aiyu special! it's really good for summer, a bit sweet and sour with the aiyu jelly. I always add white pearls too. It's like crystal but chewy
Carlo Enrique
It’s been a while since my last review, so I’m kicking off my 2019 with some Milk Tea action. The place is very neat and spacious. Great ambiance as well. Most important of all, it’s just 5 minutes away from my place! 😃 😃😃👍🏻
Dani
Have been to a few Gong Cha stores over the past month and I enjoy it every time. Taro Milk Tea with Pearls is always the go-to and it never disappoints. Plenty of seating inside, friendly staff and the quality of the drinks from each store is always the same, very consistent.
Charis Beh
I am a regular of GC, Lorne st. I usually order Honey Milktea and Milkfoam green tea. I have to compliment the tearistas working in this outlet. Very consistent quality of drinks. It'd be great if the seating layout of the store is improved (less cramp). Keep up the amazing work :)
Dyan
Gong Cha never fails to impress, had their hot signature milk tea with white pearls and it was fantastic. A little pricey but worth the while to drink once in awhile.

Everywhere I go, chocolate milk tea always my fave.. got this as sweet treat from my friend.. love it and nice to have cold drink in spring time
Jungle
Well. The taste is not the one i tried before, it feels like they got lots of water in there not too many tea flavor. Quite disappointed. QQ passionfruit green tea is fine.
Ayaan Shaikh
Pretty standard place to go for a bubble tea, usually extremely crowded and long lines are pretty common but they do a pretty good bubble tea. Shame that they don't have a wider selection of black teas but their flavoured green teas are pretty spot on. Also have tons of student deals with Niesh and university clubs, makes it cheaper than most other bubble tea places.
Katrina Fineisaloi
Have been here quite a few times and love it but it’s usually full, like waiting out the door full, but I guess that’s why everyone loves Gong cha❤️ A great place to meet new people and fellow kpop fans hahaha Love the service and atmosphere😊
Donna
I think gongcha is just okay in regards to their milk tea. I prefer hulucat. Their selection is quite large and can get really busy where the line is out the door and its pretty rare to be able to get a seat too.
Kylie
I’ve been frequenting Gong Cha for over 2 years but the last few times I visited the service has been pretty sub par. On the last time, I ordered an earl grey milk tea with 3J and after waiting nearly 15 minutes, I asked if they had forgotten my order since it was pretty busy at the time.

One of the guys said that the earl grey had run out but it was about 30 seconds away from being made into milk tea. I understand that stuff does run out occasionally so that wasn’t a big deal to me, but I was kinda annoyed that no one had mentioned anything and he didn’t apologise. Anyway my order number was 37. After a while I noticed that other people with numbers in the 50s that ordered the same drink as me were being served first. That honestly didn’t make sense to me, wouldn’t you serve the people that had been waiting the longest first? After 5 of the same drinks had been handed out, I finally got mine. All up it was around 20 minutes to get my drink.

I’ve had tons of great experiences at Gong Cha but the last few times have been pretty sub par sadly. Overall, I still rate them pretty highly on price vs quality ratio. But I’m definitely taking a break from them for a while.

Dropped by at this store after having our dinner at Katsubi Donburi restaurant at High Street.

We had pearl milk tea and taro milk tea with 30% sugar level. The pearl milk tea was perfect, and the sweetness degree was ideal.

The taro milk tea was pretty good too but it was overly sweet, considering that the sugar level was supposedly 30% only. Not sure if they measured the sugar level incorrectly or the taro milk tea was relatively sweeter as compared to other flavours of milk tea. If I ever asked for taro milk tea again in future, I would request for 0% sugar, probably that would be a more ideal sweetness level.

The staff who took my order was friendly and patient. Although there was a pretty long queue, the queue moved quite quickly. This is quite a cosy place to get yourself seated and enjoy your milk tea especially during chilly weather out there.

Food & Beverage : 8/10
Service : 7/10
Price : 6/10
Ambience : 6/10
Ayesha :)
This place has really good varieties of drinks. I recommend for new comers to not get less than 50% of sugar in ur drink. I got the taro milk but only added 30% sugar it was good in taste but needed more sweetness to it. Go crazy in toppings the fun part is there
Edwin Gu
It is always my favourite place to go for buddle tea. Considerably, their price is lower than other competitors but the taste is second-to-none! Service and ambience are relatively average, probably because they got too busy with so many customers waiting in the queue.

Recommend: any milk tea
Not recommend: egg waffle with ice cream, too pricey for such a small portion of ice-cream

My favourite place to get bubble tea! Everything is nice but the waiting line is always so long...
I guess that means lots of people like it :)
I always get the same drink with same options - Taro milk tea with 0% sugar + tapioca pearls and red beans. It might sound bland but the red beans actually add sweatness to the drink, making it just sweet enough! Really like gongcha bubble tea :)
Bean
Great service great taste. Even when they are really busy with a massive line they still get thru it really quick. Go to one is caramal milk tea which is always amazing
Elaine World
Very very popular and long wait times usually. Have a range of drinks and nice place to sit as well. There is sadly no food :( The servers are usually nice as well.
Sime Cajot
Fast service and friendly staff. My personal favourite is Winter Melon. Even if the cold season has arrived, I would always go once or twice a week. 👍
Rosanne Choy
Got blueberry. Tasted refreshing. However my all time favorite drink is the winter melon. It has a natural sweetness in it that cannot compare to any other sugared drinks. Great to have warm or cold.

How could a Taiwanese girl not love bubble tea? Gong cha is the closest thing to authentic Taiwanese bubble tea available in Auckland CBD.

Service: 10/10
The servers at the counters are able to work very fast and efficiently. My drinks are usually made within a few minutes no matter what I get.

Food: 10/10
Gong cha is definitely one of the best bubble places in New Zealand. The milk tea itself doesn’t have an artificial chemical taste and the bobas are way better than any other place I’ve been to. The iced tea is also pretty good when I don’t feel like dairy.

Ambiance: 10/10
This gong cha is perfect for having a sit down with friends whereas the one on queen street is more for on the go. It has charming decorations with couches and benches to sit on. It has bright lights to create a lively atmosphere.

Came here this morning. I ordered the early grey milk tea which came with the three toppings. Which was the pearl, pudding jelly and herbal jelly. I had no ice, 70% sugar and it tasted lovely. It wasn’t too sweet just like I like it. However I feel the pudding jelly was not needed. Probably next time if I order the early grey I would ask to change the pudding jelly for something else.
The service here was lovely and very efficient. Enjoyed my time here.
Bailey
great place to get yum drinks for uni students at uni friendly prices! been here a few times using the Niesh app. Have tried a couple of different drinks including passionfruit green tea and caramel milk tea.
The Poor Foodie
Don’t usually drink bubble tea coz it’s quite high in sugar and calories BUT I was having a great day so I decided to reward myself a cup of sweet drink😂
I struggled sooooo much to choose which bubble tea I wanted and eventually I chose one of the top 10 bestsellers (?? Jelly and ai-yu special).
I got niesh deal with free upsize and free topping so I got pudding jelly also.
Pudding jelly was surprisingly good (literally like drinking a pudding from a straw😂 this is always something I wanted to do when I was young)
S J
the drink here is the best among the similar type I tried so far. 30% level of sugar is sweet enough and no ice was cold enough for me. I went there on sunday night and not many people lining up.
Francis Goode
Visited with my friend the other day and was served by a lady who had quickly dismissed any of our questions with a distasteful attitude. We were both unable to acquire a stamp on our Gong Cha loyalty cards due to the lady and in addition, although I ordered for extra toppings, I did not receive any. We are long time customers due to our love of boba, though this experience may have altered our outlook on Gong Cha. The drinks here are generally decent but this time the service had left us with a bad taste in our mouths.
Linda Jirayu
I love the service and staff here. They are super friendly and give lots of toppings. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It is always busy but good if you only want to take away as there is no seating available most of the time.
ANKIT
Such a dope place,i think GONG CHA 🇹🇼 is #1 brand in milk tea.this place is always busy.
Customer service :4/5
Seating : Small (20 people )
WiFi : NO
Washroom : ??
Loyalty card available: YES
Student discount: NO
PAY WAVE : NO

Nice selection of drinks but when we were there it wasn't running very well. Plenty of staff but just not serving up the drinks.

With the taro milk tea you have an option of the taro cube which gives it the "real taro" texture.
Kelly Liang
Best service and kind staff, it is fairly busier than the queen street gongcha, but I usually go to this one because I prefer it more. The drinks are splendid and the best I’ve tasted in Auckland so far. Would recommend it to anyone who is just looking for a quick bubble tea or just tea in general, there are seats inside, so it’s great to meet with some friends hang out. It’s my go to place.
Emma
I come here almost everytime I go to the library. Bubble tea is always consistently great. Love the options to have no ice and no sugar. The Niesh free upsize also makes it a better deal.
Teresa.tom
Tried to ring in for phone order but they do not accept orders less than 3 drinks. Parking can be terrible around town and so we like to order ahead.

I only needed one drink

So they lost my business

Drinks are ok but not worth the trouble. Policy needs to be changed
Dxlche
Always get the QQ Passionfruit Green Tea 50% sugar and no ice here. It cost just over $6 and is the most worth it in my opinion. Considering other tea only and milk tea only drinks are just maybe $1 cheaper. This drink has many toppings inside it which provide texture and added depth of flavour for only $1 or so more.
I’ve had their bubble milk tea etc. before but I always go back to this one. Sometimes two or three times a week :)
Brooke
Gong Cha is my favourite place to get bubble tea from. They have an awesome range, and I like that you can select your sugar and ice levels. Only thing is that I find myself in a long line for sometimes over 10 minutes most trips I make there which can be a bit frustrating. They do make up for it with their quick service once your order has been taken however.
Naziminator
Delicious drinks with lot of options to make your special drink.
Service is always good n they help you in deciding if you are confused or lost in a good way...
During rush it may be take a while to get your drink but overall it's worth a wait
I am a regular n highly recommend if you are after a nice milk tea
My fav is Plum green tea with white pearl ... super yummmm
Aimee.
Love the tea here. I like how you can customise your drink with the sweetness, temperature and whether or not you want ice. The tea is delicious and there's a wide variety of options.
Quinn Mai
Tea's flavor is really good. Friendly staff, pretty fast serving. Lovely ambience. I always stop by this place to pick up a tea cup whenever going to the library nearby.
Lo9ve3r 4s
I'm not usually a huge fan of milk tea but this place is nice, heaps of tapioca and you'll feel full after having one. I once ordered something that was too sweet for me and they willingly added more tea to it to dilute the sugar. Good service
NYNB
Considering the relatively high rating for this tea place, I thought it would be pretty decent.

On a whim at the counter, I changed my mind & decided to get a drink - opting for the chocolate+strawberry smoothie.

Severely disappointing as the drink I got was overwhelmingly sweet. It reminded me of liquid Cadbury Roses Strawberries & Cream chocolate - if that's your thing, go for it. I found it unbearable to drink and in the end gave it to my sister's fiancée to finish off for me. (He has a sweet tooth & is the type who puts 2 full packets of white sugar into a mocha so you can imagine the level of sweet this drink is).

Service was great & the decor looks very clean and minimal. They have a electronic number counter for when your drink orders are ready & a self service(?) tray/straw at the opposite end of the counter.
NicoleSaunders
One of the best milk tea place in CBD. My fave taro milk tea was superb the place was quite small but the service is good and fast. Will try other flavour next time!
Angela
The drinks from gong cha are the best as you can choose your own sugar level and ice level. I go there all the time, and all the drinks I've had are delicious. The customer service there is generally alright, but sometimes it can be bad too. Last time I went there was no smile or thank you, just a blank face and seemed not really happy to serve me. But aside from that, the drinks are yummy!
Amber
They let u pick the amount of sugar in ur drink. Service was good. Huge selection of drinks. Lots of seating but it was busy so I left.prices are good compared to competitors nearby
Kylie
their original pearl milk tea is good I love it. they come fast but one time there were too many people in line so I was just waiting for my drink to be brought bench. but overall. great.
Krystal Tran
Best drink place ever. This place is awesome to hang out with friends or just to drink. The drinks are so flipping good. I love going here. It's one of my favourite places to go when I'm in the city. I have tried the oolong milk tea with herbal jelly, the pearl milk tea, peach green tea with coconut jelly and gong Cha coffee milt tea. They all tasted nice but my favourite would have to be the peach green tea with coconut jelly. This is my must go to when I'm in the city :)) The service of this place is really good, the staff are really nice and they have wifi access there, it's clean there as well :))
Tina Yu
I just wanna say I love all my children equally but Gong Cha is the best tea place (sorry Hulucat). The milk foam extra topping there is So Good on top of a nice tea and the pearls are always nice and fresh tasting. Bring all your friends !
Ian Pann
Long line and slow service. there should be at least two staff member overseeing the counter as one staff member is not enough during the busy hours. But despite the long wait, I still thoroughly enjoy yhe bubble tea.
Esther Alaon
Favourite go to for my weekly milk tea run. Nice place to hangout and chill by yourself or with friends. However, the place gets quite busy and a long queue can be expected on peek times.
Wapatino
Great place!

Its competitive advantage is the pricing of their teas!

Ive tried the passionfruit green tea with QQ (popular drink #7) as well as their Earl grey milk tea with 3J (popular drink #3). Both very different and both very delicious.

Remember to get a Gong Cha stamp card in order to get rewards!
Rachel Shen
One of the best milk tea we can find in Auckland. You can choose the sugar n ice level so everyone can find their one. Usually I ordered full sugar but recently switch to half sugar or less sugar type, they r all nice.
Joseph Taleni
My biggest disapointment here is how I even let myself wait here even in a longest of lines to get a drink, get thirsty waiting for so long. But then I remember why. Because its probably the best milk tea I've had in Auckland.
Ended a korean dinner and snack with this place, aimt nothing like a good old classic taro milk tea with coconut jelly.
Bit so far I would say I fond this place better than magic kitchen, hulu cat or momo tea.
Queena
Have always heard about this place and have walked past it several times and I can finally say, I have tried it out and LOVED it.

They have a huge selection of drinks to choose from. And you can choose the level of sweetness, ice or no ice etc. for most of the drinks which is really cool. It's kinda like choose your drink and custom it. And I personally think 50% sweetness is enough. Any more or less, it doesn't taste as nice. This place definitely did not disappoint and lived up to all the hype! ♥️
Yolanda Pierce
Gongcha is my favourite bubble tea place. I see so many complains about the service but I do not understand? I went Friday (31/03) at around 7pm, and it was so busy. Lined up all the way to the door. The cashier was very helpful girl, she answered all my questions, had a great attitude. Drinks took maybe 5 minutes, but it was very busy. When I got my drinks, the cashier was very apologetic for the wait. My drink was perfect, definitely worth the wait. Will definitely come back soon. 10/10 recommend, great customer service.

There"s a saying.... That some things in life,"...,Not everyone"s cup of Tea".....Not that the product they serve up here"s bad,...in fact most of the drinks and desserts are pretty dam good..but at the end of the day,it's a over priced Chinese version of a milk shake...@ $7 to $9+ a pop give me a cup of choysa any time and I be a happy chappy!!!!

Kiwi Eats Asia
My favourite milk tea in Auckland :) I love that they always pushed the idea of choosing how much sugar you'd like since a few years ago barely anyone considered that you might want control of the levels of sugar, ice, etc. (as you always could in Taiwan). I love the Alisan tea, hot with half sugar and pearls very yummy! As is their fresh milk teas. The pearls are always fresh and they always have the toppings you want. Plus counter service is friendly and they are pretty efficient. The space often doesn't have enough chairs for you and your group so you might have a bit of an awkwardly loitering wait as someone else finishes their last sip. Atmosphere not amazing, quite bright and clinical but milk tea makes up for it. Also it's one of the most reasonable milk teas! Good stuff all round, thanks Gong Cha!
Susan Huang
The most terrible pearl milk tea I have ever drank, no milk and tea taste, pearl is not fresh and too less with poor service. Will never go there again.
Ffionachua
This gong Cha branch is quite clean and has an open and relaxed environment. Service is generally quite good - the cashier is polite and efficient in their service.

The hot royal milk tea I had today was more warm than hot. Would've preferred it to be hotter - perhaps I need to check next time.

My favourite topping for Gong Cha has to be their milk foam. I don't know what they put in it, but it tastes amazing and cuts through the sweetness of the drink. This topping is definitely a must try.
Kaylene Jessin
I always order original milk tea with grass jelly and its amazing as always. They're always so busy but yet manage to complete orders fast. (I also need to fill the character requirement, ignore this)
Marggie Pascua
I always come here for Peach Green tea with pearls, the tea is so nice and i like how you can customise your drink to how much sugar and ice you want in your drink. The place is also clean and quick, even though sometimes the queues are long, it is worth it when you're craving bubble teas.
Tami T
BY FAR THE BEST MILK TEA IN AUCKLAND!!! The menu is diverse and a variety of toppings are offered. Each drink is true to it's flavour - this is something that enables Gong Cha to stand out from competing milk tea companies! A special mention to the following flavour: RED DATE AND LONGAN MILK TEA!
Alix
My all time fave is Wintermelon Tea Latte with pudding! I crave for it all the time, even now while typing this. Haha. Service is fast and staff are friendly. I hope you put up a store near Uni, it will surely be a hit!

Tried their Green milk tea from the Signature range. I've tried bubble tea once before from other store which I didn't like. So, thought of trying it from Gong Cha,today. Hmm.. I think bubble tea doesn't suit my taste. I've seen so many people drinking it lately so wanted to try it, hahaha but it's not how I like my tea. :P
The store is pretty good and big. I went there around 5pm on Friday so it was really busy. The staff was friendly and nice seating arrangement. I think I won't try bubble tea anymore cause I can't seem to fit it to my taste. But nothing wrong with the store. The place was really nice. :)

Update: came here again to try their Passionfruit green tea. This one already has pearls and coconut jelly added to it so you don't have to order them separately. The drink was really refreshing and loved the pearls and coconut jelly combination. Will come here again to try some of their other green teas. :)

My favourite flavour of all time from this place is the Mango yoghurt. That great taste of mango and the contents inside that big cup is just satisfying to say the least

Came in here today since I haven't visited since their opening day. I ordered the Signature Oolong Tea, with 30% sugar and 30% ice, whilst my friend ordered the Lemon Wintermelon tea with Basil Seeds with 50% ice. This place is still popular as ever with us Uni students, or bubble tea lovers in general! I like their ordering system, where they call out the number of your receipt and you can collect your drink! Awesome stuff, will be back to try their other drinks!

lets Talk Tea, came here for dessert during a wet saturday nite and chose this bar and on walking in i was the oldest character in at time as obviously this place is quite popular for asian students to hang out. Not bad interior decor too, menu was quite extensive and got the HOT winter melon latte with 30% sugar with black pearls and not bad, still pretty sweet though, i guess everyone has different taste buds, therefore warmed me up on a cold evening.
Looking at the wall, Gong Cha is Taiwanese and expanded off shore, afterall bubble tea is originally taiwanese.

I just... wasn't a fan? I got #44, fresh milk with red bean and pudding, I think, and I just feel nothing towards it. It wasn't good, wasn't bad, I had about the same feelings drinking it as when drinking bottled water. The taste was pretty bland, and I ended up being left with half a cup full of huge pieces of pudding and red bean after finished the milk too.

I had my first ever bubble tea in NZ here at Gong Cha. I went with my friend and she showed me the different options available. I wasn't too sure how to order back then so I let her do my order. I ended up choosing the classic milk tea with pearls while my friend ordered green milk tea I think. She regularly goes here and suggested we go here. The classic milk tea was nice and refreshing, not too overpowering. It was priced fine but as usual I'd prefer it cheaper. When we came here it was pretty packed around 1/2pm luckily we found a place to sit. The decor is nice and simple. It's nice to unwind here after uni when there isn't much people.

I am definitely a Gong Cha regular goer. My favourite drink is Taro Milk tea with pearls or something simple like Original Milk Tea with pearls and Pudding. Although sometimes my drink is made too full that when I put the straw in, it spills on the top of the lid or everywhere on the counter. Moreover, there had been times where I can see my drink made on the other side of the counter then it takes ages to be called out by the server taking orders for other people. (Under staff) I hope service was quicker so I can come by before class starts.

Gongcha is probably my fav bubble tea joint in city (and there are a lot of them popping up now). It can get quite busy during peak times, so there aren't always seats available. What I really love is the strong tea flavour as opposed to hulucat and other places where you mostly taste sugar. My personal favourite is the classic pearl milk tea - 50% sugar, 30% ice. I literally come here like 5 times a week and it's why I'm so broke. Free toppings though! Shout out to TANSA/ESA/HKSS/KAC other asian groups that offer this hahaha

Gong cha is my personal favourite bubble tea place in Auckland. I visit there at least three times a week and they always have fresh pearls unlike some other places. The only thing is the place can be really noisy a lot of times.
Issie
The Gong cha is good, just like any other branch worldwide. This particular one does require bit of waiting when I went there. If you order one on the go, its great but generally if you plan to drink it at the store, its not really a cosy atmosphere in my opinion. Besides that, the taste is satisfactory

I would always get Peach Green Tea with coconut jelly because I like peaches & it tastes refreshing and 'healthy' because of that green tea in there 😂 I like plain and simple drinks and I guess it is easier to order too, for me at least... I love how you can choose the sugar & ice levels because it can get real sweet and too much ice can turn the taste bland real quick with this hot weather. For $6.10 large (w/ cocnut jelly incl), id say its a decent price. And being close to AUT is a huge plus for a lazy student like me😂👍 overall it's a good place to grab a drink &/or to chill/catchup with mates!

Great price for portion
Has a/c during summer which is so nice !
Good service although when it comes you have to go get it
I ordered the passion fruit green tea with 30% sugar and it was still sweet but perfect !
Friend ordered the lemon yoghurt and was refreshing too
I recommend staying 50% sugar or below that
100% ice is good for summer
Will visit again !

I love Gong Cha with a passion, their drinks are simply delicious and are perfect for a student budget. My personal favorite is the red date tea

My personal favourite shop for Bubble Tea. The price is cheaper than most other bubble tea shops. Signature Milk Green Tea is a must try. The loyalty program is good to have if you come here often - 9 stamps = 1 free drink
Helena
The first thing I noticed for this Asian drink shop is the price. It is cheaper compared to other drink shop I have been to.
I ordered the classic pearl milk tea since this drink is the most basic and can really show he quality of the materials used in the store. Well I wasn't disappointed since the milk tea was spot on, a bit sweet for me but there is always the option of choosing your sweetness level. The pearl is good but not as big as the other stores. The main reason for the nearly perfect mark is because of the ice ratio in the cup. The ice is filled up to the brim of the cup therefore not too sure how much actual milk tea is in the cup. Next time I will try to ask for a no ice one

寒天愛玉 is really good, especially the white pearl in it. Convenient location on queen street. Order received in less than 3 minutes, fast and good service.

At the moment the Best Taiwanese-style drinks in Auckland!

Extensive range of drinks from teas to slushies. All they're missing are the mini tapiocas!
You can adjust sugar/ice levels, which is a plus. I mostly go for half sugar and no ice :)
The drinks taste great, and their prices are cheaper than most other chains. There is also a stamp card, every 5th or 6th free i think!
Pity the parking sucks otherwise I'd visit town everyweek to get the drinks :)!
Ronald Tan
New opening in queen street, value for money as it is having a 1 for 1 promotion. We had the signature series. The taste is quite all right. One of the few good 泡泡茶 in Auckland. Always love to have it during our interval break.
Marcella
Finally! A bubble tea joint that sells decent drinks! Loved their range of flavours and toppings they offer. They also offer you the choice of how much sugar and ice gets out into your drink. Another bonus!

Tried the earl grey tea with the 3js today and the longan honey drink with white pearls. Both were really good! We got ours with 70% ice and sugar for both and that suited as perfectly. The white pearls are probably my new favourite topping now. Loved the flavour and texture.

If only this place was closer to home. Would definitely be my regular go to tea place!

It's a busy place with a long queue everytime I vistited. But I can't deny that they have a best bubble tea in town, or in Auckland :). I love the Gong Cha signature milk green tea, the rich of milk foam and thw chewy of pearls. Aww yum :). Friendly staff, clean and tidy shop. Love it!
Ezzz
I love it!!! Have a huge range of milktea selections and such creative and healthy flavours. I get a drink from there every time I visit town. I live the fresh green milktea, love the natural taste. My favorite milk tea shop
Ashish Bijwe
Another really good place to hangout with friends/colleagues after work or after university lectures. Very affordable, slightly cheaper than Cha Time & Hulucat. I like their pearls, it's bigger and taste much better than Cha Time.

Ambience: 4/5, bright white wash on the wall you can feel very peaceful while sip your milk tea and socialise with friends.

Service: Haven't really hard the taste of their service yet. When you place your order at the counter they will give token number, when the order is ready they will just call your token number, Grab a drink, take a seat and enjoy pretty much like a fast food restaurant.

Drink 2.5: not worth the price, atleast for the winter melon alisan drink. Tasteless, and pearls too small and too less.
End Result: had to chuck my drink in the rubbish bin. Waste of money!

Check out the hottest milk tea place in town! Gong Cha is conveniently located near uni and also offer good sizing and prices. I've been a fan of their traditional milk tea with pearls, milk tea and herbal jelly (with 50% sugar!) and today I got to try the hot red longan tea and signature green, wintermelon tea! Generally I like the flavours but sometimes, it's quite hard to determine the sugar content as you are given a choice! When I want to choose 100%, my body tells me that I should go healthy and have 0% instead, so at the moment I'm sticking with 50%! (But actually 100% is REALLY SWEET).

In addition, I hope I get to choose a sugar content for the warm teas next time. Didn't know why that wasn't possible today!
FoodieOodie95
Hehe went here yesterday for the first time and went for the Signature Gong Cha Milk Green Tea and was pretty satisfied! The foam was so milky and creamy and just on point ? Although the place is kinda small so gets busy/conjested pretty quickly, but the service is v good ! :)

Updated Review , April 2016 : Still great service! Also got an ESA card so got free toppings with my tea yayyy pearls ! Highly recommend their Longon Honey drink MmmmM

Had wanted to come and try out this place after coming across it on zomato. Interior was spacious and airy with plenty of place to sit down. Customer service was also great and did not felt like i was rushed and thats where it stops unfortunately. Both the milk tea we had was not as good as i hoped it would be. In comparison, Cha time is still the best.

I've tried both the hot pearl milk tea and the cold oolong milk tea with black grass jelly. I like it because it's one of the very few milk tea places in auckland where you can explicitly customise the sweetness and ice levels of your drink. I like both the drinks I've tried so far!
Ed
Very nice new store with minimalistic design. Always busy and has a very large range of drinks and options to choose from.

Food: 6/10
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value: 3.5/5
Overall: 17/25

The store is lively and alert with simplistic and clean decor. The staff are cheerful and pleasant even as the store was relatively busy. They have a well run ship as the orders come out quickly and efficiently. I live how you can customize not only the sugar level but ice as well! I ordered the regular Pearl Milk Tea with 50% sugar and 30% ice. The pearls were so soft and chewy, definitely freshly made. And my tea had the perfect amount of sweetness; I normally order 50% but at various other milk tea places the bubble tea is too sweet or plain. I recommend Gong Cha as it's one of the more affordable options in the city which doesn't substitute on quality. They are also one of the few places which allow you to choose between a large and regular size. Plus the have a great loyalty programme where your 5th bubble tea is free!
Vincent
Good place to grab a quick drink or cozy place to gather with friend. Try 3J earl grey and the wintermelon milk foam. It's reallll goood #zomatostudent @zomatostudents

I had heard a lot about Gong Cha and am pleased to say that I'm impressed. I like that they use real tea (and real taro bits!) for their teas. They also have a wide range of toppings which is great; I got the pudding which was quite fluid which made it much easier to eat/drink through the straw. The wait was a little long and there were a few straw wrappers and other rubbish left on the tables, but I guess it was a busy place - besides many people had their drink to-go. It's a great place and a nice change from my usual milk tea places.
LuciferTSN
Southern Taiwanese styled tea house. I was really impressed with Gong Cha, which uses "real tea" to make their drinks and not that processed or chemically created stuff. Love quite a few selection of their tea now. Highly recommended: winter melons with basil seeds; lemon white perl with gelatin; peach ice tea; original milk tea.

Out of all the international milk tea chains, this is my favourite.

Their specialities is the gong cha signature milk teas which has creamy milk froth on the top. Drink together and it gives it a really interesting texture and slightly salty froth.

I like the signature green tea with pearls, 50% sugar and 30% ice. Not too sweet :) But great thing is you can choose the % you want.

Friendly service but very slow order taking, many people too so be ready to wait. Because it gets busy, there might be no seats and self cleaning too.

Take away is a good way to go and enjoy your drink! :)

This place has very nice interiors and a cool ambience. Service was overall fair. Beverages need a lot of improvement to reach expected standards.

Recently opened on Lorne, as expected it's been quite busy. Enjoyed our bubble teas would say the quality is the best so far compared to other places in the CBD.

I had the early grey with 3 jellies, had a generous amount of jellies.

Nice that there's a fair amount of seating, good to go with a couple of friends. Good variety on the menu, looking forward to coming back and trying something else.
Victoria
A new favourite for bubble tea in Auckland CBD. I'd rate it above others like HuluCat and Chatime. Located in the old KiwiYo shop on Lorne St, the location is great with a lot of eateries on the same strip. Very nice inside, clean, and a decent amount of seating, a big plus already compared to HuluCat & Chatime. The only complaint is that with it being new it's quite busy and the menu isn't very well positioned, it's located near the counter but almost completely blocked when there's a line. So if you're indecisive, it could be a little annoying not being able to see the menu until you're almost at the front.

Ordered the Earl Grey Tea with 3 Jelly's and at $6.10 for a Large, it was well priced. A lot of other places charge you for every extra so by the time you've added a few things, you can find your drink getting quite pricey.

As others have mentioned you can customise everything from the amount of sugar to ice. Back home in Aussie all the big places already do this, so, nice to see it here. Flavour wise, it was really good and the extras inside were very generous which made it very filling. I shared the Large and normally a small drinker but found myself wishing we got two.
Will be the first place I head to now for a bubble tea fix.

Conveniently located along Lorne Street just by Gloria Jeans and opposite No. 1 Pancake, Gong Cha (Taiwanese franchise) has finally opened their doors in NZ.

Ordering is seamless with a step by step construct your own fully customisable drink. They also have "Top 10" recommendations to facilitate your decision making incase you get paralysed by the 51 drink selection.

Ordered:
- Earl grey milk tea with 3J
- Oolong milk tea with herbal jelly
- White pearl and ai-yu special

Decor/Ambience: 3.5/5 tables and seating could be done a little better and comfortably accommodate more people
Service: 5/5
Value: 4.5/5
Taste: 4.5/5
Overall: 4.5/5 best 'bubble tea' spot in Auckland

New Zealand being New Zealand, of course there would be a ridiculously long line for a newly opened place that's already been well established overseas haha. After waiting for a few weeks for these queues to die down, I finally got my hands on some of their drinks to see what the big hyper was about. The interior of the store wasnt bad, simple and clean and a nice place to chill with some friends. The best part of Gongcha tho was their varied range of flavours and series', and also the fact that you could change the level of sweetness and ice too :D But now for the drinks..

Matcha Milk Tea and Red Bean : 7/10, matcha and red bean, defs a match made in heaven haha. This drink had a really nice flavour ( a bit too sweet but thats cos I got 100%) but the red beans at the bottom were super hard and undercooked :/ The first few sips were super good but it didnt become quite sickening after a while due to how sweet it was. Defs recommend maybe 60% sweetness

Signature milk early gray tea with pearls: 5/10, nothing really special about this milk tea; literally tasted like earl gray with a heap of sugar added to it. Definitely more refreshing than the matcha one tho, but wouldnt get it again.

Overall, Gongcha's just like any other asian beverage place haha. Would maybe return to try something other than their milk teas. Prices are standard :)

Another popular drinks place in Auckland City

I've tried pretty much all the Taiwanese drinks places; Chatime, Hulu Cat, J's Tea, Momo Tea; I think Gong Cha is probably my favourite but only because I only ever get the Pearl Milk Tea.

Picture:
- Large Pearl Milk Tea; 100% sugar with no ice ($5.70)

For the price you pay, it is cheapier than the others and it tastes pretty much the same. The owners are Cantonese? which confused so many people on opening week because all the customers were Taiwanese/Chinese. I think they would be more popular if the staff could speak Mandarin but hey, we go for the drinks. I would go again to try the other drinks.

I haven't had good experiences with Gong Cha overseas but since they were having a Buy 1 get 1 free opening promotion, I decided to give Gong Cha another go and hope it was better here! As expected, it was very hyped up and it took me 20 mins to get my drink but that was only because of the long line- the actual time from ordering and receiving my drink was very fast, so props to Gong Cha for having their system sorted and well organized. The drinks menu is very intricate and varied with options you probably have never encountered before which means you might have trouble deciding which one to choose first (to the girls in front of me, you could have used that 20 mins waiting line to decide, rather than getting to the counter and deliberating for ages 😓) but I decided to stick with the recommendations.

The lemon wintermelon tea with basil seeds was a great, refreshing choice though there was only a little basil seeds which is a pity because they're my favourite. The green milk tea drink comes out with the milk/ froth on top so you can choose whether you want to mix it all in, or drink the components separately which is a nice touch. I also tried the Taro flavour smoothie which was delicious!

Overall, Gong Cha has a strong tea game going on and have proved themselves worthy competitors in the milk tea business and have thankfully proved to be so much better than their overseas franchises, it's just that their drinks aren't quite to my taste buds as I have preferences for other places. However, they're in a really good location and a great place to chill out with friends for milk tea so that's 4 stars from me.
Shelly
Came to check the hype out after being in Melbourne and living off Gong Cha there. Lorne street kind of messed up my order and I didn't actually enjoy me oolong milk "foam" tea too much, but the staff were suuuuper nice about messing up the order and attentive which to me is more important. So thumbs up guys! I have a loyalty card and will be back for more! Also a huge plus is that you can customise the sugar and ice level - win win situation.
FoodLoco
Just been here the other day.. the place looks nice..
The drinks arnt too bad either I like how they have 0 Sugar options..
I tried Hot Original Pearl Tea 0 Sugar it wasnt too bad.
I like how they have place inside to sit and chill which momotea in city is lacking
Joycee
OMG SO HAPPY GONG CHA IS FINALLY HERE IN NZ 😍 tastes just like I used to have it when I was in Manila.. the milk tea foam is bomb!! Just make sure to reduce the sugar levels cos they can be a bit sweet.. my friend got hot taro milk tea and said it was really good as well
BrinkersMad
I heard Gong Cha is better than Chatime so I thought I'd try it out. I've been here 3 times and I can only say that the drinks have been average thus far. I'm still going to give you guys a chance because the rush affects quality since staff are pressured to be fast.

However, my matcha red bean milk tea barely had much red bean and there wasn't much of a tea taste. Taro milk tea with pearls didn't have much of a strong taste either. I don't know whether it was because I opted for less sugar...(but I usually go for less sugar)

There is a huge variety and I can't wait to try out more drinks. You guys have some nearby competition but since you guys are close to uni, it's all about convenience and u guys are nicely situated so I'll be heading your way :-)

EDIT: Much better now that the tide has gone down :) new rating updated...one of the best
Charlotte
I had gong cha a few years ago in HK and I remember how it tasted so good. It tastes different to most other tea houses in Auckland. All the drinks I've tried so far are really good. They're probably the cheapest teahouse I've seen, but they're still very generous with their toppings.
The only downside is that it just opened this week so there's quite often a bit of a wait but I feel the wait is quite worth it. The staff work at an incredible speed but are still really thorough and friendly.
The shop is quite small so they're isn't a lot of seating available but if you can get a seat it's quite comfortable to sit and have tea there.
Brave Eat
Im very impressed with Gongcha drinks. Very delicious and I have so much options to choose from. Tables are sort of dirty but I understand as it is extremely busy. I highly recommend this place for quick cold drinks.

New favourite hangout place in CBD. With a light atmosphere and welcoming staff, visiiting this place is a must. Eventhough they have just recently opened up and competition is within a km radius, the fact that people can sit inside the cafe is great. The teas are amazing and i would definiteky recommend their signature wintermelon milk tea for anyone who is a sweet tooth. Overall, this place is great to meet up with friends and have freshly made tea.
Dianca Mitchell
Totally worth the wait (there was a buy 1 get 1 free deal for the opening). Had the Gong Cha Signature Wintermelon Tea and the Original Pearl Milk Tea. The Pearl Milk Tea was hands down the best original one I've had in NZ. Not only that, but the prices are relatively cheaper to other bubble tea places! Will definitely be back here for a regular tea.
Edmond Shen
Got the cold signature green tea , half sugar, no ice and no topping. Really enjoyed the 3 different ways you can drink the tea, having it tea and the foam or tea separate then the foam at the top. The foam was surprisingly good. It had just opened today so it takes about 40 minutes to get your order in. Definitely would come here again when the hype dies down.
