Review Hong Kong Kitchen - Auckland Central

Delicious food! You can't go wrong. My faves are crispy pork, pancake duck, homemade BBQ pork buns, sizzling pepper steak, sweet and sour pork (even gluten free batter!) and garlic seasonal veges. Larger area upstairs with to host a small party.

Always a good choice. The roast pork noodle soup was very tasty. Very friendly family run restaurant.

Wow! I had a proper feast at HongKong Kitchen today and it was amazing. The food was some of the best i have tried from a chinese food restaurant.

The best place for crispy pork! I usually get the crispy pork on rice and I love how they give you so much gravy. So delicious! Staff are friendly. Service is fast. A hidden gem :)
Bryan Tan
Great place for Cantonese food if you don't mind the decor.
Juan Pablo Cardona
The crispy pork was amazing, the restaurant very clean and the people were super nice to me, definitely coming back, thanks Patrick

Interesting space. Eat in or takeaway. A big menu, quite different to mainstream Chinese. We stayed familiar but can't wait to return and be more adventurous. Staff helpful and patient . We ate in and enjoyed a complimentary Chinese tea. We'll priced, simple and good food. Can't wait to go back.

Love the beef brisket noodle soup!

Our go too place for authentic dishes. Special mention goes to the braised egg plant with salted fish, choy sum, crispy pork and soy marinated chicken with freshly cooked white rice. Would love to try the cod as it looks super delicious.

I love their sauces on the meals!

Best place to get you Asian fix. Love the duck, crispy pork and brisket on rice. I'd highly recommend to anyone. Alot on the menu I've yet to try.

Great variety of dishes, cheap prices, fresh ingredients and awesome service. Best Chinese food in east auckland. Make sure you try the sizzling beef and black bean sauce with steamed veggies and rice.

My go to place for Cantonese food 🤌👌

Very good local Hong Kong Chinese cuisine. Prices are very affordable, great selection of dishes. Take away or dine in. Professional fast service. Recommend to stop by if shopping nearby.

One of the best , if not the best!! Lots of options to choose from, every dish is excellent. You will not go wrong dinning here :) also very friendly staff!!

Had the wong tong noodle soup since was a change in weather, only been here one other time, the food is a bit pricey compared to other similar places, but it dose have an A grade from Council. The green tea is nice here. Tuesday 22 October 2019.

Over priced for Glen Innes. I go once in a blue moon cos I’m a local, and every time I get a tummy bug after eating their food. Maybe it’s the off dumplings. Anyhu I can get better somewhere else.
Brandon Epapara
The service was great had duck on rice but wasn’t fabulous like the one I have on Lincoln Road West Auckland (Hut BBQ). Average the duck was ok but the rice was old and wasn’t made proper

Very up and down with this place, third time we have got crispy roast pork from this place and it has been stone cold every time but we have just heated up in the microwave every other time. But tonight we got the “cold” crispy pork and it was extremely dry and not enjoyable. Think we will travel further next time to find something more consistent

Fisrt time visiting two years ago and never went back! Bought the 205 dish with a steam rice and I swear that was enough to feed a Caucasian baby! i could have wasted my $31 on two combos next door at McDonalds instead! But, thought no, I'll try this place for a change. What a big MFk'n mistake! If you want a decent Chinese meal? Do not bother going here it's not worth the price and petrol and would be better going to Great tongs on the other side. Whatta waste of money! >/

4.5/5 Taste
3.5/5 Display
4/5 Quantity
4/5 Customer Service

Great Chinese Restaurant in Glen Innes.

Looks like a small takeaway shop from outside but they had quite a few seatings inside.
Really really decent food, braised beef was very tender.

I live for this place, I utterly love this spot for the amazing food and for the lovely people who work there. Food is clean, fresh and healthy.. Recommend the long beans on rice... Roast Pork/Chicken and Duck on rice too as well as the Noodle Soup with their secret sauces... Their Chicken wings are Delicious too with the citrusy sauce..

Basically, in a Nutshell... If you're looking for hope in a cruel world... go and eat at this place.

The food here is fantastic, lunch special is well worth it and so many options available. Crispy pork and wonton soup is tasty, hot and a great size lunch portion.

Great restaurant with friendly and approachable staff, always come here for the roast duck, have also had other dishes such as crispy pork and bbq pork, all of which are pretty good. Authentic and delicious, highly recommended!
Munchies
Great hidden lil Chinese outlet that sells Chinese roast And bbq meats. They have soy chicken and all the usual Chinese dishes that are always cooked great. Sweet and sour pork, fried rice, gai lan, wontons, bbq and roast pork or all delicious. Service is always friendly and fast. Be sure to get the spring onion and ginger sauce to accompany any of the roast meats. They only serve it with the chicken but goes great with all the meats. Prices are reasonably cheap for the amount you get as well.

i have been to Hong Kong Kitchen about 10 times this year, until my recent time the food has been great,, i mostly order the crispy pork and bbq pork,,, i don't know want went wrong this time but the pork was a very big disappointment, the crispy pork looked good but once bitting into a piece the pork was many fat,, the skin was so soft and very chewy and not crispy at all, the bbq pork was also not up to their normal standard, the pieces i got looked undercooked, that too was tough to chew,,,,

Authentic Cantonese cuisine at great prices! The location isn’t the best but the quality is exceptional! Their service is second to none too! Feeling so happy to find this place as our weekend indulgence!
MrGodHimself
Located in the corner of a block of shops/carparks in a somewhat dodgy area of GI. It is small from the outside, doesn't look clean or inviting, until you see the pork roast hanging in the window that is... taste and texture was perfect, possibly the best crispy pork I've ever had. Can't wait to explore their menu. Not flash or glamorous in the slightest, only come for the food.

Beautiful tofu veggie noddle soup - made custom for me and so grateful ! Absolutely delicious and not too hot just like I asked. Also highly recommend the duck porridge.
Thank you very much!

Fast service and great food. The location may not look inviting but you will be surprised that they offer authentic and delicious food. Typical Chinese takeaway menu. Had the Crispy Roast Pork and it was tasty and the crackling was crunchy. Definitely trying the other dishes next time.

Located opposite the GI train station next to the Golden Arches, Hong Kong Kitchen does not really inspire interest or desire when looking at it from the outside. In fact, I was quite scared of getting food here! It didn’t really look that clean and to be frank just reminded me of those dirty takeaways that often leaves my tummy scrambling around like little kids at Lollipop Land.

Surprise surprise, the age-old phrase of looks can be deceiving the food here is fantastic considering the price you pay. Relatively authentic, there are some classic Hong Kong dishes that would be hard to find elsewhere in Auckland. The service is quick and the meals are tasty and my tummy was absolutely fine!

Showstopper: The lunch deals here is pretty value for money. But also the Scrambled Beef & Prawn Rice Noodle.

Overall Grade: B+

All the food here is top notch. In particular I like the crispy pork and long beans on rice and most of all the steamed blue cod. The staff are very cool people. They are real and decent humans.

Ah Yes the best hong kong BBQ roast meal so far and the order taker just listen to my needs of pork chopped small, chook part i wanted, no blinken spring onions and even asked if i wanted the hated ginger too,
Service/Dish complete opposite of my last HK roast meal at Mangeres Sun Tasty.
Nice, succulent and fresh too, not tough stale pork belly left overs, located out east in G.I
Why are the dark dingy HK BBQ places the best, so stay away lfrom the flash ambience places.

What an awesome place to come for dinner! Came here as a group of 10 wanting to share meals. We didn't know what to order/ how much to order. The chef came along to see us and we told him what we wanted to do. He was so lovely and friendly and said he would make us a banquet to share for $20 each! What a bargain! The service was so quick and he kept coming by to check if we were happy. We had wontons, Crispy pork, honey bbq pork, sweet and sour pork, a whole fish, satay beef, noodles, fried rice and a few other dishes. All of the food was great but the crispy pork and honey bbq pork were amazing! Recommend coming here if you want a cheap meal with awesome service and good food :)

Love the Five Spicy Squid...my husband also likes the Crispy Duck on Rice. A gem tucked away in a corner of Glen Innes. Portion sizes are just right too 👍

Yummy food especially the BBQ pork and Shanghai noodles. Is my local go to for when I'm in the mood for Asian food, which is quite often because this food is so great!

My fave place for fried rice in Glen Innes. BBQ PORK & SHRIMP fried rice is always my go to meal here and one day we added extra crispy pork & it was THE BEST REALISATION of yumminess ever 😊 food is good & not oily like other Chinese/hong kong places. If you dine in, then u get complementary tea/water (normal) but also miso soup for free :). The dining area is small & not so flash but their food is really good. Staff are always friendly too, always greeting you with a smile. Even when we come and order 10mins before they close 🙌🏽

Update feed : BBQ pork on rice - yummm! Rice abit watery. Crispy Pork & beans were decent as well. Would like beans to be a bit more warmer or hotter!

Good food by good people, 100% recommended very good chinese food. Great for takeaways and dine-in if you are looking for a quick and good meal.
Supergirlnz
Very tasty Chinese food. Must have the fried rice noodles, combination meat on rice and wonton soup. Great for takeaways and they cook fast.

We love this place!!! The rice noodles are great and the crispy pork yummy! The staff is very nice and give good recommendations. Try it once, you won't be disappointed

I love the Crispy Pork Fried Rice and the Five Spicy Squid! Nothing fancy about this little restaurant, however the food is authentic, fresh and consistently delicious!!

Hi , having seen a recommendation for this cafe in the paperboy mag , and the fact that it's in my area i decided to give it a try. My go to dish in chinese cafés is won ton noodle soup, which i have eaten in many countries, my gold standard for this dish is the chinese on the upper floor of the mercury plaza which produces consistently probably one of the best won ton soups available anywhere. Sadly the version served at the hong kong kitchen an extremely poor example of this classic soup, the won tons were large lumps of a pink coloured meat, the stock was tasteless, nw this may be some regional version, but having eaten this dish in hong kong i think not, extremely disapointing, i had to force myself to eat it. As i have not tried any other dishes i cannot judge the rest of the menu, the bbq meats looked pretty tasty, and it did seem very popular, maybe i just chose the wrong dish.

2nd visit
Feeling a@ bit peckish (or bored ) i fanced a bbq pork and shrimp fried rice, and once again i have say i was disappointed, gluggy not fried enough rice, too much rice not enough pork or shrimp and mediocre flavour, probably msg, wish i could be a bit more positive, but i cant, friendly staff, but i wont be returning, if your happy with mediocrity then this place is probably for you.

Really upset . I was being there with my friend today . And found a fly in the noodle . We told their staff , they just come to take away my dish and say "sorry " and walked away like nothing happened . And we feel so hurt , they even not have a right attitude to apologise. Really don't want to come again . Watch out guys , half fly may in your stomach when you nearly finish food .
Ding359140636
Really really bad experience! There was a fly in my food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A fly!!!!!!! And they just said sorry and took away my dish!!!!!!! When we tried to complain about that, they said what you want!!!!!!!!!!!

Food is fabulous... Generally get the crispy pork on rice but most of the food is fantastic.. Friendly owners with excellent service and I do love the obscurity of these places which only the locals know. All my kingdom for a good cafe in GI though!

Was pretty nervous about coming here due to some pretty low ratings and harsh reviews. I'm so glad I ended up eating here because the food here is amazing! Although I've tasted better duck before, for the price, it was definitely well worth it. The crispy pork and the fish fillet and sweet corn was amazing!! The veges were fresh and tasty too. Definitely coming back for seconds and thirds and more 😍

One of our family favourites in the area. Nothing fancy, but traditional authentic taste that takes you back to Hong Kong in the 90.

Our favourites are their Soy chicken with ginger/spring onion dipping, roast pork round been stir fry on rice , creamy corn and fish fillet and those toast pork and tofu fish.

The owners were always friendly and speaks good English compare to a lot of other takeaway places. Their prices are very reasonable and serving sizes are big. We recommend everyone to go and try this place out!!

Regular here, this Hong Kong place has been on of my favourites for a while now. Even though the interior does not feel that great and feels slightly oily and dirty, the food here makes up for it. Fresh Hong Kong food that is not too strong that makes you want to keep eating until you are full. Can never get sick of this place and will visit again soon
Brett
Very good! I am a regular here. Tried heaps of different places and no one does it as good as them. Food is always great and prices are reasonable. Highly recommend if ur looking for authentic Hong Kong food

I love the fresh roasted meat that hangs in the glass window. I usually get crispy pork on rice wherever this kind of food is served but I decided to get the combination meat on rice with duck and pork together. Apart from the pork being chopped in bigger chunks than I would like, the food was at par with what I thought it would be. The lady at the counter was helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place and will keep going back.

These guys do some dishes really well but the biggest issue I have is the lack of consistency. They really do some bad dishes and the standards just aren't there. You go in and it's a lottery so really chop suey (junk food). Pictured so called beef, ginger and onions?? Really isnt a dish of distinction. Just loaded up with veges that are inexpensive varieties of local produce rather than authentic snowpeas, shittake and asian greens. Window hung duck, chicken and roast pork ususlly more consistent 2/5

Sept 05:
Increased their rating from 2.5 to 3 as ordered a pork with mushroom noodle and it did have dried shittake 3/5 also a fav dish prawns with egg sauce on rice noodles that was excellent 4/5.

Sept 16- tried their crispy roast pork 4.5/5 not much fat so big tick but light on wickedly tasty crunchy skin. superb char siew styled pork rich aroma of the spices used. Again no chewy fat and so tender. 4.5/5 Rerated overall@ from 3 to 3.5. :)

Am a regular here at least once a fortnight, nothing fancy but very popular with the locals. (White Collar n Blue Collar) Have seen a lot of older KBC's (Kiwi Born Chinese) order here. The rice noodle with pork and mushroom and Singapore fried noodle are our comfort foods. Usually a rush to try and anchor the bigger table downstairs. More seating upstairs but cant be bothered climbing the stairs. The staff are friendly and always greet you with a smile. they know all the locals and often ask them how their kids are doing etc

kapai tucker

when hungry for noodles, the place to go......

5 minutes drive away

today i will have the brisket noodle soup. The brisket is so tender it melts in the mouth

cheap is good

excellent staff

This place is awesome. This is the only place I have found in NZ that has good Chinese food. I've tried the Hainan Chicken which is chicken with prawns in a white sauce over rice, Pork Poridge, Pork & Bean Curd Noodles, Lemon Chicken & Shanghai Noodles. All of them were great. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. I always see what the Chinese are eating and ask the lady at the counter what it is. Then I try it if its something that sounds like I might like. You can dine-in at this place. It is very casual. Closed on Tuesdays.
