Review Mirchi's Fine Indian Cuisine Restaurant - Auckland Central

We used the Groupon Feast for 2 voucher to share between 3 people with an addition of a salad. The size of the meal was decent that 3 of us were having trouble finishing all of it. There were pappadums to start, 2 vege and 1 chicken tikka entree, 2 curries with 2 naans, and 2 desserts. The curry was tasty, pappadum was salty, vege pakora was dry, chicken was tender, salad was more just a plate of chopped vege, and the mango kulfi ice cream was nice and refreshing. The food came out very quick (might be because we were the only table). Restaurant atmosphere is very authentic Indian. Waiter was very polite. Overall was good value for money.

They are a little hidden gem. Great butter chicken. Takeaways welcome via phone order. Plenty of dine in seating it has a traditional indian vibe... the owner is very friendly.

Best Indian food around for miles and miles. Not only my is the food great, but the staff are really friendly too. Out latest order took two hours to arrive (delivery) because of mix ups with daylight savings. But they gave us our next meal free as compensation.

A great dining place. Last Sunday we went for there for our suns sons first birthday party with 30 other relatives and they managed it very well, food was simply awesome so as their customer service. Party was supposed to end at 10:00 but it ended an hour late but i was amazed to see their patients and it didn't impact their service at all.

Pre ordered our delivery on line before the restaurant had opened, was very easy and efficient, our meal arrived right on time. We enjoyed every mouthful from the samosas to the butter chicken and chicken tikka marsala. Highly recommend and would definitely order from mirchi's again. Our last meal from them was yuck when new people had taken over a while back, but these must be new owners again as this meal was superb!!

Popped in here after doing a google search for food in the area. It was a Monday evening so very quiet. The food and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend. Specials on a Monday & Tuesday evening as well.

A great local restaurant, always good service and food. Try something other then just the butter chicken, every curry I've tried has been delicious. I'm a regular now.

Pleasant decor, good levels of lighting and well spaced out tables so you're not in all the other customers' space..

Quite slow to acknowledge my arrival due to a lack of serving staff (it was a Wednesday evening, to be fair) but once proceedings were underway all was good despite the shakey start.

Refrigerated water (filtered tap I suspect because there was no smell tor odd flavour to it) in the styliest jug I've ever seen at an Indian restaurant and perfectly salted poppadoms with cumin seeds (which I love) brought with the menu.

After a little deliberation I settled on the Chilli Chicken entree and the Lamb Do Piaza (Hot). They have the Kingfisher Strong beer even though it's not actually listed on the drinks menu so, of course, that was a must.

The plates were pre-heated and delivered just prior to the course's arrival.

Starting with the Chilli Chicken proved to be a master stroke. It was a little salty, even for me, but I could look past that as it was still delicious with the red and green capsicum and onion. I was really looking forward to the main.

It arrived promptly and emitted all the right smells. The taste was no disappointment either. Delicious! Hot was actually proper hot for a change. A smidgeon too much cumin in the spice mix but not overpowering. Nice, tender lamb pieces in the right proportion to the sauce.

Negatives:

Nothing serious.Glass over the tablecloth which is only one up from paper. The counter telephone ring is a little intrusive (but fortunately the music is not). The TV was streaming YouTube cricket until it stopped and that went unnoticed by the staff. But I guess you don't go to Indian restaurants for TV. And I got so tired of waiting for them to come and clear the mains plate so I could order a Mango Kulfi dessert that I gave up and paid and left without. I did make brief eye contact with the serving staff on a couple of occasions, as expertly as they avoided doing so, but my intent went unnoticed. I'm not so uncouth as to raise a hand and wave like I'm back in primary school.

All-in-all this now my go-to west Auckland Indian but in future I'll be sitting where I can grab their attention when the need arises.

It was alright wasn’t the best I’ve had also wasn’t the worst . It tasted different to the usual Indian places I’ve been to the spices they use are different .

To start, I'd like to mention, that I have attended this restaurant countless times from the age of a child to a man. The restaurant is currently under new management, all the staff that were there prior to this, are gone.
I went here last night. I ordered the take away Authentic Butter Chicken, which costed $27. The portion size wasn't the biggest, but I left thinking that was fine, due to how gourmet the menu made it out to be. I arrived home and began eating, and I can genuinely say it is the worst butter chicken I have ever eaten. Simply put, it tasted like tomato paste. There was clearly far too much added to the recipe. Further more, the restaurant had only 1 group seated, so the lack of attention to detail is unacceptable. This restaurant was the go to, in comparison to other Indian Cuisine Restaurants, but now I must say I will be looking else where.

we have been here before earlier this year 2017 with a groupon voucher. the restaurant was empty however a nice young lady was our waitress and the food was great. we thought why aren't more people eating here? we left thinking we could come back again and would be happy to pay full retail price. my partner had her birthday in october and was given a groupon voucher by my father. we ate there tonight november 09/11/17 and wow the food couldn't compare to our last visit. first of all when we ordered our entree i could hear microwave buttons in the background making me think how fresh is this food? we ordered butter chicken and a coconut beef curry for mains. the butter chicken was probably the worst i have tasted with like x4 bits of chicken and an extremely watery sauce. the coconut beef looked like someone's vomit after a big night out. white coconut sauce with orange oil through it really unappealing. then the mango ice cream cake out for desert, it was like yellow mango ice cubes rather than last time nice soft creamy ice cream with chopped almonds on top. i really understood tonight why this restaurant is empty and only like 2 takeaway orders while we were there. i'm not one to complain about bad or average restaurant experiences but wow we're we let down tonight. the owner was polite and ok service but you dine out to eat good food not just to have a smile and friendly staff serve you microwaved crap. really wouldn't not recommend this place at all probably worst restaurant experience. the silver lining was that we didn't pay and it was a voucher gifted. would rate it lower than 1.0 but that's as low as you can go!

I can’t fault the food! Huge amount of flavour
My favourite is the chilli chicken entree and the naan bread is the best I’ve ever had!!
It’s just really lacking in decor and cleanliness!
With abit of modernisation and a good scrub down this place would be amazing
We had dinner at Mirchi's and absolutely loved the food and the Ambience. The food was divine and cooked to perfection. The staff was very polite. I would recommend all curry lovers to give this place a try. We are definitely going back

Came here with my wife and friends with Groupon coupon. Value for money with the voucher. Food tasty, and flavoursome. However, it takes a very long time between courses. Actually 2 hours to finish the whole meal. Great disappointment on the timing.
Tanya
Always tasty food and value for money. Great to see you deliver also! Way to go in transforming your business to be more customer focused 👏👏👏

Ordered from their lunch menu takeaway and it was delicious! We only ordered butter chickens, but it's one of the best we have had and the Nan bread were huge. Great for $10.99. The man that served me was very polite and friendly. We shall be back.

We are Indian snobs! Mirchi's is probably one of the best we've visited in NZ. We loved the Indian Star in Rotorua - this beats it hands-down for food, flavour, authenticity, service and portion size.

We've been several times with a voucher - and brilliant everytime. Amazing food and service. Exceptional.

If it were on the north shore of Auckland, it would be packed and is far better than those we have visited. I just wish they'd move here!

It's hidden away in Royal Heights shopping mall - a small, non-distinctive wee place that looks a little rough round the edges...and royal road exit is only on one side of highway 16 - so need to locate it with a bit of determination. The restaurant itself is unassuming too. But if you love great Indian - you must go!

We had their starter platter, veg korma, their own Mirchi's special chicken (cashews etc) and tikka masala - hot and medium - WOW!!

And all such a good price! Track it down before everyone else does!

Bought a Groupon for 8 people and upon arrival we were greeted with great service and even better food ! Everyone's plates were filled to the brim . The portions were huge ! My family absolutely loved this place ! Was definitely worth the drive and will definitely be coming back soon !

Worth the drive, excellent tasting Indian cuisine with lots of flavour, big portions. We were a party of 8 and really felt it was value for money.
Melissa Louise Carr
Have tried four of their curries so far and are all delicious! Very authentic with friendly service. Better than some of the curries I had in India!

Amazing experience. The staff there are the nicest people I have ever met at a restaurant. They went well beyond the call of duty and even sang happy birthday for us. The food was excellent and plentiful. We had the malai kofta and butter prawns.cant wait to go back again. Thanks Mirchi's.

Did a lunch takeaway and went the same night for a sit down dinner. Extremely pleased with the quality and taste of the food. Very attentive customer service. The new management is certainly doing a much much better job. So glad we have finally found authentic tasting Indian food right on our doorstep! Would definitely recommend. I give it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Best in The West :) Mango Chicken is devine . Cheese Naan Bread is addictive so yummy.
Great service . I always go for dinner or get Takeaway ,cant wait to go for lunch.

Really happy this is our local. Outstanding quality sand friendly service. We're trying out their different curries each time and each dish is equally unique and tasty! Only complaint is it's quite expensive and the garlic naan is a bit overpowering and the garlic pieces are too large but biggest pro is how tender all meat in their dishes are. Can't wait to try some more soon :-)

love takeaways from here. would recommend the butter chicken ( medium or spicy) and palak paneer is amazing. seems very authentic. such lovely owners as well

Really really Dissapointed mirchis used to be delishous! I am really Dissapointed with my meal tonight butter chicken, not a lot of chicken in the meal...I could have looked past that but the sauce is like water! Watery tomatoe soup really shocking. The onion Baji is pretty average as is the garlic nan. I can't believe the state of the butter chicken! Flavourless and watery will not be returning mirchis is priced higher then other Indians located around it. I am very Dissapointed this place used to be amazing! What's happened!

This review is based on a delivered dinner. Score for service 0.5/5. Why? First of all their online pricing was old. Each item ordered was $1 more than stated, thus unexpected cost was not agreeable. Second, delivery person forgot to leave some of the food ordered. We contacted them, they said delivery person was not far away - he turned up half an hour later, after we had finished eating. Obviously, apart from it being cold it was way too late. No apology received. Food rating 2.5/5.
Foreveralone
Ordered butter chicken here and it had black burnt piece of onions in it? It didn't really affect the taste that much because I quite liked it. Got a garlic naan and it was really burnt surprised they actually gave it to me.

Will i be coming here again probably in 5 months time.

Regards,
Sin

First time I went here, I was disappointed with the saagwala I ordered. Second time I thought I'd give it another try, boy what a waste of my money. Took almost half an hour just to receive two meals for takeaway, how ridiculous! And the wait wasn't even worth it! The 1.5 point is merely for the naan bread, and yet that couldn't even be a saving grace. If you live in the Massey area, I'd recommend making the drive a bit longer and definitely pass this option.

Our favourite local restaurant, excellent value for money and very family friendly. The staff are always obliging, and welcoming of family groups. The kid's menu butter chicken meal is a bargain and there's always plenty for everyone. Our favourite dishes are Korma and the Vindaloo. We have taken visitors from overseas here and they have always been impressed. Good atmosphere and comfy chairs.
Bex Ellis
This used to be one of my goto Indian places, however with a change of ownership things have changed. The chef is the same so the sauces are still tasty and true Indian flavour but the meat in the meals has decreased immensely. We also made the mistake of getting our meal delivered and I do not recommend you make the same mistake as the meal was cold, had missing orders and took longer than it needed to.
Love The Experience, Love The Brand.
Ok, as takeaways go, the experience is always about the taste and consistency. I've gone from a rating of 4 now down to 2. I believe it changed owners about a year ago and has gone down hill. Authentic butter chicken tastes like spicy tomato soup, and the garlic naan was made with pre chopped in a tub garlic.
Not a good Friday night takeout night.
Sophia Little
Absolutely positively the best indian restaurant! I lived in the area for a good 2years and pregnant. I went here all the time for dinner. Such great people and food. The food is so beautiful! You go on a wonderful journey through flavors. Naans are yum, sometimes flakey. All starters are uber yummy! My favorite is the samosa and sekh sausage? Wonderful people. Lovely decor and sence. Large place. Also nice a quiet when restaurant is busy. I recommend their chicken briyani, butter chicken, all lamb dishes. Awesome!
Neil Jones
Excellent value for money and friendly service.

We absolutely loved our meal here. We couldn't fault anything! We will definitely be back as it's the best Indian food we have had in a long time. What a find :D Not to mention good quick service and friendly staff.
Anonymous Diner
Mirchi's is our local so we visit quite often.

For the average kiwi who likes going to the Indian for a butter chicken, Mirchi's do a sweet, tasty butter chicken and nice naan breads.

I find some of their other curries such as the korma and madras lacking flavour but there are definitely some nice dishes on there, their authentic butter chicken is great and the Mirchi's special chicken is delcious (and very spicy if ordering hot!).

Friendly service, only complaint would be they need to keep an eye on your drinks better, but they are quick to grab them for you if you call their attention.
Lisa
Well, I was very dubious about ordering here, due to the last few reviews...but out of time and hungry. We ordered Butter Chicken, and Garlic Nan Bread, and I have to say it was Fab!!! yes the Garlic Nan was very garlicky, but I like it that way;) I can only comment on the dish I had....but I will DEF order here again and for $20 bucks.....a bargain!
Brunette1
Definitely the worse Indian have tasted. Only dined once and it was yuck. Did go back again and get a tray of rice when needed it for our home cooked meal and it took 40mins it was shocking to have to wait that long in the car, was sooo angry, would never go again or recommend this place. That service is not on!

100% better off going to the new CURRY LEAF up at Westgate you will be a lot more satisfied
Aaron Bennett
Food, average at best.

Service is really good though.

We're a little disappointed that you have cancelled your weekday specials..... Will not be back till the specials are back.
