We've been here three times. The quality of the food had been consistently very good, so far. My husband always goes for the marinated beef. He loves his barbecue.<br/><br/>On our most recent visit, I ordered chicken teriyaki on rice. It was good! And super filling, too! Or maybe it was because I had some Japanese salad first and shared some crispy chicken with a friend.<br/><br/>This is good food at a very good price. The only downside for me is that their staff is not that friendly. :-(<br/><br/>We always turn up without a reservation, but we do manage to get a table. However, since they can be busy on weekends, do book ahead of time.

Went here for dinner with a friend. You order meat and you are given a charcoal bbq on your table, you cook the meat to your preference. They are marinated in Japanese sauces. There is a range of complementary side dishes they provide. They stock a decent range of Japanese and international beers at good prices. The place is nice and clean and the prices are not expensive. Will visit here again!

Couldn't quite figure out where Tanoshimu Yakiniku was placing itself but decided it was some sort of hybrid between Japanese and Chinese BBQ. <br/><br/>We ordered a variety of meats to slap on the teppan and they were delicious! Will definitely be back to try the soft-shelled crab.<br/><br/>Bonus points for having marshmallow toasting at the end, it was a really nice to finish off the meal.

Came here yesterday and surprisingly not much people when we arrived. Started packing up though. Came here once before and thought the food was a bit on the expensive side coz the servings aren't that much for the price. However last night they had a special (i think it's new on the menu) good for 2 people. It was $49 for 2 and the food was generous. You get a plateful of different meats and cuts, and you also get 5 various side dishes as well as 2x bowls of rice. In addition to that there was also 2x complimentary egg custard thing as well as complimentary 2x salad and 2x miso soup. Good value for money, i think i may come here more often! I really like their beef with japanese BBQ sauce - that is my fave from the menu and the main reason i like this place coz you can't find it in other asian bbq places!

Over all meat is fresh and tasty. I definitely recommend lamb and beef tongue 👍🏻It was a good experience of self bbq in the restaurant. There are plenty of seasonings and dips for free-! You can bbq it in your way! However you need to be patient once you get in. I was waiting for the fire(charcoal) for 20mins plus another 10mins for my first dish!! 😳 And I didnt get veg selection dish before I finish 4 dishes of meat! On my second ordered dishes, I have ordered same dish as my first order. I was disappointed with reduced potion-! ✨Price is reasonable and enjoyable place-! I will try this restaurant again with my other friends😌😌

My first time here was great, food was delicious and service was awesome. Their vegetable plate has courgettes, mushroom onions and capsicums all really fresh. My favourite dish is their pork belly dish in spicy miso - it's full of flavour and delicious. I can't remember the name of the lamb dish but it comes in small pieces, that and the beef slices with spicy mustard go really well together. My second visit wasn't as good, they had run out of all vegetables and when you're having a meat bbq you need veggies. They literally only had mushroom, no kumara or any other veggies. They also gave me really dirty cutlery, I asked for another set and even that pair wasn't very clean. Our grill kept setting fire as they put the coals/wood in a high stack and the metal grill we had had bits of scrubbing brush hair stuck in it. I probably won't go back here for awhile after that but I did enjoy the food most definitely 👍🏼 if they could improve the cleanliness and supply it would be great

Truly horrible day in Auckland and we were drawn to Tanoshimu Yakiniku. We skipped all the 'kitchen prepared' food and went straight to cook your own food. You can choose a variety of proteins- chicken, beef, lamb, pork, seafood and offal. We mainly stuck with seafood and filled the restaurant with sizzling prawns aroma. I really enjoyed marinating and choosing which seasonings to have on my seafood. It's such a fun and unique experience. I'm definitely heading back!

Two of us are here. Beef is fatty and sinews <br/>Portions disappointing $9 for 6 pieces of sewing beef <br/>Vegetables it prepared I had to ask 5 times. <br/>Will never go back service poor beer warm <br/>Nothing to recommend it

The staff were friendly and attentive, the waitress asked if we dine here before and explain how to use the grill. The food was great, a lot of seasoning choice. However, it took long time for each food to come.

Food here is yum. The meats are so tasty and thanks to the way you cook them on charcoal it gives it a smoky flavour which is absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and very attentive as well.<br/><br/>Few things I do want to complain though is that the meat proportions are small. On top of that the cooking area you get is so small you can only cook a certain amount of meat in one go so if you are hungry it is a little annoying. The fire was weak so unless the meats were in the center it took too long to cook. In fact the meats that we placed on the edge of the grill just got warm but didn’t cook at all. Also, this is just my personal preference but I wish the rice automatically came if you order the meats instead of spending $3 on it.<br/><br/>Overall a nice fun place to go out with friends.

I just wanna say that u must bring your excellent teeth ...enjoy~~~interesting ....there is no reason give me to go twice...I have been Taiwan Japan ...BBQ is not like that..looks like the meat melt in your mouth..here..is like ..oh gosh ..cannot tasty.

Considering that I have been here twice now allows me to give a fair indication of what this restaurant is like....<br/><br/>I like the concept of this restaurant, it's fun, extraordinary and different to your usual dining experience. Grilling your own meat can be fun at first but it can become rather daunting when you're actually hungry.. <br/><br/>Our first experience a few months ago - After my partners raw meat was served, there was a large interval break before my raw meat was served. My meat came 10-15 minutes after his arrived... I think that's kind of ridiculous considering the meat is raw, I mean they don't even have to cook it. What's the hold up?! <br/><br/>Second experience - last night we came here and they actually forgot my partners order. His chicken was just chilling in the kitchen area until we had to remind a staff member what he had ordered.<br/><br/>The teriyaki beef I ordered was actually tasty but the downside is that the portion size is very small. The chick at the counter was a bit strange and rude, it wouldn't hurt to be friendly.<br/><br/>I'm not sure if I'll come back.. Maybe...

Always have a good time at Yakiniku's. Fantastic concept, A must do for BBQ lovers. The pork belly is delicious. The marshmallows at the end add a nice touch.

I was taken here to eat by two of my friends! They had dined here before and thought this place was really nice and took me along one night. I was super excited for Japanese BBQ! <br/><br/>We were greeted when we entered and directed to a table near the back of the restaurant. The waitress asked if we had been here before and if we were familiar with how to use the charcoal grill! My friends had dined here before so we didn't need her to explain things through again. It was nice to know that they cared enough to ask though! <br/><br/>The bubble tea express next door (Hulu cat) is also owned by the same owner as Tanoshimu, so we were allowed to buy bubble tea and drink it with our meal! What a bonus! <br/><br/>I handed the ordering to my friends, so they could order what they thought tasted good. We ended up getting two of the marinated beef dishes, hot and spicy chicken (that was my choice), seaweed salad, cheesy cabbage, kimchi and kimchi beef on rice. <br/><br/>I thought the beef was marinated perfectly and it tasted so good in the different sauces and dips we had available! The chicken was good as well! Definitely a dish I would get again. The kimchi beef on rice came in quite a decent sized bowl for $9.50!! We managed to share this between two of us with decent portions each. After our mains, the wait staff cleared our table and we were given a marshmallow each on sticks for dessert! We roasted this over the remaining charcoal. I wish there were more marshmallows but I loved this experience! Good service as well! Can't wait to be back :)<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Nice tasting food and good facilities. Good place for a fun date. The ingredients were actually rather simple so I wasn't overly impressed with the range of food.

Three of us dined here tonight after my brother recommended it to me this morning. Walked in with no booking at around 7pm and they were more than welcoming. <br/><br/>We ordered between us the fried squid tentacles for entree. For the charcoal BBQ we ordered the marinated beef, the skirt steak, thai spicy chicken, beef tongue, buttered sweetcorn, buttered mushrooms, buttered cabbage. We also had 2 bowls of rice and a seaweed salad on the side. <br/><br/>I highly recommend the marinated beef. The subtle sweetness of the Japanese BBQ sauce goes so so well with the charcoal smoked taste. Seriously delicious. The other meats were so-so and tasted quite similar to other charcoal BBQ joints. <br/><br/>Service is good. Price is good. Can't really complain. ☺️

I've never tried japanese BBQ before and boy! Have I been missing out! <br/><br/>Came here for the first time last night and the staff were very friendly and helpful when explaining the menu to us. <br/>We ordered the marinated pork scotch, beef, lamb and a bowl of rice to share. <br/>We received the japanese soy dipping sauce and lemon juice shortly after and OMG! The soy sauce has the most amazing flavour and just a lovely pairing to all the meats. <br/><br/>Similar to Korean BBQ , they provided us with a little charcoal bbq thing to cook our meat on. Portions of the meat were pretty small but not bad for the price. To add extra flavour, you could also sprinkle the many seasoning shakers provided on the table- ranging from cheese seasoning to wasabi seasoning. <br/> <br/>Our favourite meat was the marinated beef. The lamb was too fatty but the pork was tasty- just a bit too thin. Lovely charcoal taste to all the meats. It did get pretty warm when cooking but it was worth it and a lot of fun. <br/><br/>To finish off our meals, we were given complimentary marshmallows to toast over the charcoal which was just the perfect ending to a good meal :)<br/>Decor was also hip and clean which was a plus. Definitely coming back for more of that japanese BBQ soy sauce soon!

It's a really good BBQ restaurant. The food is pretty good and the service is good. The place is also pretty tidy.  My one qualm is that it's trying to be a Japanese BBQ restaurant when there's not a single Japanese person working there.

When we were in Hong Kong, it is very popular to have the Japanese style BBQ.  However, we were unable to have the charcoal BBQ  indoor in Hong Kong - so it's a great surprise to us we can have it here =) (Charcoal BBQ is always the best BBQ) <br/><br/>Back to the review on the restaurant, it is a very nice restaurant, the waitress are nice, the food are great and we enjoy it so much! It's so funny that they gave us the complimentary marshmallow after we finished the dinner as dessert!<br/><br/>Must come back again (although BBQ is always heaty)

Have to rate this a 5 star! I have been here more than two handfuls of times and had an amazing experience everytime. their meats are marinated well and the dishes aren't too expensive, although they have gone up since I first went there.. The staff are always friendly and it is by far a nice place to chill for a nice date or with friends! I've even bought my family here to share my excellent experience. They make sure to change your metal rack half way so it prevents food poisoning for one and keeps it from smoking too much from the fat and oil still on it. best thing about it is they give you marshmellows to toast afterwards. If you haven't tried this you need to give it a try!! I would highly recommend this and the price tag for two people is usually $35-40! Things to try:Have the Japanese dipping sauce with everything!Wrap your pork belly with onion or eggplant ( in season )Use the many seasoning that is availableJapanese Marinated Steak Potato and cheese!!Corn and butter!!TRY NOT TO GAIN 5 KGS!

Tanoshimu Yakiniku is one of the most fun restaurants I've been to! The staff are awesome, the food delicious and the whole experience, a party. <br/><br/>We've had a few chats of whether going out for dinner to cook your own food is a bit silly but I've decided this; at home you have to prep and clean which sucks, at tanoshimu yakiniku you get to play with fire and have fun making your food! <br/><br/>My secret weapon is to mix copious amounts of cumin and cheese into the soy, dip the meat in and then grill. YUM. <br/><br/>It's a great place with a big group and a great way to introduce people to eachother. Would also make a fun date location - we actually spent our anniversary there. <br/><br/>And best of all? At the end of your meal you get given marshmallows to toast!

Awesome place, great food and service. <br/><br/>seafood was fresh. Loads of condiments for meat. <br/><br/> Very friendly Taiwanese staff. Would recommend A++

Very friendly service, they're very welcoming and teaches you how to cook it and season your orders.<br/><br/>They have a range of seasoning at each table such as wasabi powder, cheese powder, cumin, lemon, seaweed powder etc. Their menu is a fusion between Japanese and Taiwanese style charcoal grill. A good range of protein, seafood, appetizer and salads. <br/><br/>They also have a liquor license for those who prefers a bottle of cold beer with their Asian style barbeque! <br/><br/>Most surprisingly, they have complementary marshmallow at the end of the course for you to grill like a bonfire (of course you can try their desserts menu too)!<br/><br/>This place is a great hangout place, it's clean and close till late. Definitely saving this to my late night snacking list!<br/>

A great place with atmosphere and feeling of comfort, great for evening meal and catching up with friends. <br/>Very interesting experience with Japanese BBQ(different from steampots and etc.). Would definitely recommend to visit there and judge yourself.<br/><br/>Nice music makes you feel like in a lounge bar, especially when sitting on the private tables.<br/>Ease of parking and very affordable prices make it even more wishing to visit.<br/><br/>Menu is a bit different with more items, but still same prices tho.

You will not be disappointed!<br/><br/> Service: 4/5<br/> Wait time: 5/5<br/> Environment: 5/5<br/> Food Quality: 5/5<br/> Food Quantity: 4/5<br/> Price range: $25+ pp

Even if you don't know what yakiniku means, you work it out pretty quickly when you smell the smoke and see all the meat grilling on the tables. Although there are extraction pipes hanging above each table, there is a cloud of smoke across the room, so make sure you don't wear your best clothes to this place, unless you don't mind them reeking of your dinner.<br/><br/>You get to cook your meat and vegetables over the BBQ, so you have a hand in the final result. There is also a wide range of seasonings on the table for you to experiment with, from cheese powder to wasabi powder.<br/><br/>What used to be the very minimalist Sapor Noodle House has been transformed into a classy venue with high ceilings and cartoony artwork on the walls. Great place for a group meal but would also work for couples.
