Review Savour & Devour - Auckland Central

Delicious! Beautiful food and friendly service, I went there to practise my French and both the lovely lady that served us and the chef were super welcoming and spoke French to me. Pastry's were to die for and coffee good. Would return.

Happened to pass by this place and popped in for afternoon coffee just before the cafe closes at 4pm. Tried the mango tart that was amazing. It is absolutely delicious!

Staff/service: 4/5
Venue: 4/5
Price/portion: 4/5

The portions were good for their price. The food tasted alright but nothing fantastic. The food presentation is good, there could be improvements on the taste.

Join Zomato Gold and get 1+1 on food or 2+2 on drinks. Also get a 20% OFF using my referral code SUMA8564P

Came in for lunch today. Ordered the breakfast seasonal salad bowl and the saffron potato hash with zomato gold. The mushrooms were seasoned so well. Sauce was soaked fully into the s oft mushrooms. Corn was super sweet but the edamame beans weren't salted that well. Loved the slightly sweet and spicy salad sauce placed on top of the shredded lettuce. The potato hash was delicious too. Potato had so many flavours inside it. Loved the outdoor seating.

The eggs Benedict was tasty with hollandaise sauce, nicely poached eggs that oozed out and smoked salmon which really worked with the texture of the bread, similar to a sourdough consistency. No extra decorative bits or extra sauces on the side which I didn’t mind as it was expected for the cheaper price but a bit sad looking. They gave us a butter knife which meant we couldn’t cut through the bread and had to use our hands (messy.) But It was a pretty good eggs Benedict, taste wise.

However, the burger was a let down. A decent sized burger with a thick beef patty and fries with nice spiced seasoning but no flavor at all. No relish, no mayo, the meat had no herbs or salt and the egg was over fried. It was pretty much a tower of bland tomato flavored sogginess. For $18.50 (more expensive than burgerfuel), it should have at least met those expectations but nope. Tables were also dirty with dust and crumbs and outdated spinning chairs that were rusted. Fast service but we seemed like the only ones there which is unusual for a cafe at 12pm. The one next door was bustling.

The food was amazing. We had the Blueberry Pancakes and the salmon eggs Benedict. The pancake came with ice cream, fruit and maple syrup, I also got a side of bacon The pancake was so good, it was very fluffy and had lots of blueberries..The Salmon Benedict was also great! Salmon was fresh, hollandaise was tasty and the bagel was crispy. We will definitely be back!

Eat in / take out. The food and coffee here is amazing. Plenty of tables here most times, thank you Emily for the friendly service and happily adapting menu choices to personal preference.
Love my favourite leek saffron hash eggs Bennie with bacon and mushrooms thingy. Well done you two.

Ordered chai latte & pumpkin soup. The chai latte was average & the pumpkin soup was far too hot. Ate half the soup at the cafe & the rest later which I enjoyed as the soup had cooled down.

You will devour again after eating in this cafe. Big servings as well. Good place to eat. Love their Eggs Benedict version. Coffee is okay. ☕️

Good pies from the cabinet but the scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked, and I noticed cleaniness in the dining room needs to be improved, a lot of crumbs on the floor.

Two staff on and they did a spectacular job. I'm sure they weren't expecting a group of 12 today but they sure made business on this Sunday. Food was outstanding, loved my homemade burger, i wasn't expecting much but it ended up being delicious. Service is great friendly staff! The food isn't expensive too it was actually a generious price for a cafe in central that was very good. Would recommend to come here.

Visited Savour and Devour for an early breakfast on a nice quiet Sunday morning. We both ordered the eggs benedict with bacon. Eggs were poached perfectly, bacon had a little too much fat on it and the bread was perfection (crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). Staff were friendly. Good price. Not the greatest meal I've ever had but still tasty.

Hot Chocolate was the first thing that came into mind once I entered the doors. I was hesitant to enter because it was so busy but I gave in because it was just pouring down with rain. Pretty good hot chocolate I might add.

The person who served me was really kind and gracious and I didn't have to wait that long to get my order.

Upon entering the first first thing that comes into mind is the 'upper class cafe', well that's my perception anyways. The decor is quite fancy and at the time I was there it, was quite busy probably because they didn't want to leave due to the rain.

My partner and I came her after finding a deal on grab one. We were not disappointed, the food was awesome and the service was great! Definitely recommend the shak shuka. Oh and the coffee was awesome too :)

After a loooooong night out on the town I needed something good to replace the alcohol consumed the night before…. I got the eggs Benedict (as usual) with bacon and a flat white trim milk with one sugar.

Bacon was crispy and salty, the eggs were poached beautifully and there was the right amount of hollandaise sauce drizzled on top. I really dislike the eggs being soaked in it cause it can be overpowering and the rest of the flavors are drowned out.

The staff are all real cool and one time we brought our little Chihuahua and you either love or hate her but they were so nice to her and couldn’t get over how cute she was! (irrelevant, I know but good customer service)

Have been here a couple times and each time it's been a disappointment. Slow service, average food and coffee. One of the times in bought a muffin and it crumbled into a million crumbs when I cut it and tasted like butter - weird experience.

Savour & devour one of my favorite places to eat. Have dined at least half a dozen times and each time we enjoy our meals. Polite service and coffees & food comes out quickly. Coffees are good! Favorite on the menu has to be the saffron potato hash with salmon(pictured).the 5 grain bread is really delicious too. I did try something new the last time but didn't really satisfy my taste buds. (Pictured below in the cast iron dish) eggs nene is excellent and pancakes too.

CINAMON ROLLS !!!!!! They are the best in town!!! So worse it, I can drive 20 min to this place Just for the pastries! Staff very friendly and food is excellent, every dishes has something original on it and it so you don't have the impression to eat again and again the same egg benedicts for exemple :)

This used to be one of our favourite cafes, about 5 years ago. Staff are friendly and coffee is good but the whole place is dirty and unkept, long over grown vine taking over the outside deck, air conditioner draining into a bucket on the floor under a dining table, dirty decrepit lamps hanging on the ceilings, milk cartons stored along side food in the display cabinet and my absolute pet hate filthy Windows. If you can't be bothered to clean the Windows what is the kitchen like. Sorry to rant but it is SO disappointing what has happened to this place.

My review is based on a couple visits I made to this cafe for the month of November 2015. During my first visit I bought a couple of pies from their cabinet to take home with me. I was a little surprised that 2 pies cost me $15; the steak & mushroom and mince & cheese pies were really delicious, but they are overpriced.

My second visit was last week with a Groupon voucher. My friend ordered berry pancakes and I ordered the chicken and bacon caesar salad. Both meals were below average. I was a disappointed they had used shredded iceberg lettuce rather than romaine. There was barely if no caesar dressing and no croutons. Full price for this salad was $17.50, I could've made something better at home.

Berries for the pancakes looked like they were from the freezer and were mushy and watery looking.

Cafe ambience is nothing special and courtyard out back is near smelly toilets.

There are better places to eat. Overall score 3 because the expensive pies were delish. However, I wouldn't recommend ordering from the all day breakfast or lunch menu.

Had lunch today on a voucher. Tried to book but phone gave no such number tone. Turned up and was accepted. I had the big brekkie (all day) and my partner had a haloumi, ciabatta and rocket dish. The rocket turned out to be mesclun. My dish said mushrooms but I got one half mushroom - Overall the plate was miserable for the money - perhaps reflecting the voucher? My coffee was tasty but also only half size - voucher again? We waited about 49 mins for the food to turn up, far too long. Place looked a bit unkempt. Not a disaster but won't return.

Visited a couple times for brunch with the family.

Staff are nice and friendly

We ordered the big breakfast, saffron potato hash with bacon, roasted vege halloumi salad, shakshuka and the baked eggs not pictured. Also had long blacks and flat whites which were nice.

The big breakfast and saffron potato eggs were both delicious big portions with the eggs well cooked and the bread served with both dishes was really good. The vege salad was nice just lacking a bit in flavour and could have done with a bit more haloumi. The sauce in the shakshuka had a nice flavour and the eggs were cooked well however there were really big chunks of underdone onion which I left (pictured) which weren't that nice. The baked eggs were okay.

Some items on the menu are great and others with a bit more refinement would be heaps better overall still a nice experience and would go back to try other dishes

I went to this cafe for brunch with my partner and we enjoyed our meals and our coffees. Service was ok but not great and the staff seemed to be waiting for us to leave as soon as possible. Food was good and price was reasonable and I would go again.

Outdoor seating at a back courtyard, indoor seating and roadside as well gives the unqualified amateur diner plenty of options with resting their weary bodies while consuming many of the fine options available at this indie cafe. Had some original dishes on the menu, included baked eggs which I took a punt on. Kid menu great as well and plenty of drink options :-) Location handy in Grey Lynn and service very efficient!

Went there for Saturday brunch and ordered a saffron potato hash dish with poached eggs and salmon. The food was mediocre but what put me off the most is how the food was handled. The kitchen is semi-open to the dining area so if you see sometimes how they prepare the food. The young kitchen hand came in and out of the kitchen touching things behind the counter and then things in the kitchen. He touched his clothes. Then he used his hand to grab the poached eggs and put them on the plate without washing his hands first. That to me is kind of gross. And I have not seen him wash his hands at all during the time I was there. Not going back there again.

Great brunch here on Waitangi Day. No surcharge. Not busy. Sensational Shak Shakur and good coffee. The daughter enjoyed poached eggs (perfectly cooked) with a side of bacon. Lovely.

We had breakfast here on Sunday after the GLF market, and both of us really enjoyed our food, the Saffron Potato Hash (with bacon) and the Shak shuka (Traditional North African breakfast) for something a little different. My poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the flavour of the leeks gave it a nice point of difference, the lovely fresh artisan bread with real butter was delicious on the side, and Husband was well happy with his too, which was spicy and warming. The service was extremely polite and very friendly, meals came quickly and the coffee was good. We would definitely return.

I had one of the most disappointing lunches today in West Lynn. It was wet and cold and I wanted something hot and filling and chose kedgeree, which I love. But it was awful, the worst I've ever had. The rice wasn't cooked, it wasn't seasoned and if there was any smoked fish in the dish...they were minuscule pieces. Pretty poor service as well, no one asked why I left most of it.

Good points – the poached egg on top was good & the coffee. But when you've got great places nearby, you really need to be a lot better to justify charging $20+ (for below average food).

Went for a Sunday brunch and was disappointing - all meals were left with over half the food still on the plate

Eggs were hard, coffee average and the whole lining up to order is not well explained

I have a sneaking suspicion front of house is out of their depth and doesn't do quality control very well either

Went on the weekend with a voucher. The waitresses were excellent and contrary to other reviews I think they communicated very well and spoke very good English even if they had an accent!!. We ordered the big breakfast and pizza which was fantastic with lovely fresh ingredients. We booked an hour before on a busy weekend and the voucher deal was outstanding. We received our coffees on the way back from ordering at the counter and we will definitely go back and pay full price for our next meal. The meals were excellent and tasty. Love the fresh spinach and mushrooms. Would recommend to anyone. If I have anything to suggest it would be to plant out the view of the car park. The food at the counter also looked home made and delicious.

I had a voucher to use with my husband, looking forward to a great meal. Unfortunately the bad service ruined our brunch. Just calling in to make a booking was terrible. It would be really good if their staff could speak English.

When we arrived, I asked the cashier what food we could get with the voucher because I wanted to make sure, the lady said "everything on the menu". So my husband and I ordered our hot beverage first and sat down to look at the menu. I went back to the long line to order. As I was ordering, the same lady that told me we could order anything, told me I couldn't order Pizza. Pissed and really annoyed, my husband had to go for the Savour and devour breakfast, which was terrible and overly priced without a voucher. I wouldn't go back, because the service was terrible, terrible, terrible.

I had dined here once before and it had been great. It's a local area for me and I was looking for a new regular breakfast location. Unfortunately on a return visit with a friend for breakfast (where I raved about the place) we had terrible service.

The wrong order was delivered but they would not replace it. I had ordered for my friend and I was sure what it was I ordered but couldn't prove it.

It was clear my friend did not eat any of the plate she was given and they did not even offer a muffin or something else as a replacement.

It's all about customer service. I won't be returning and neither will my friend.

Pro: Open till 5pm
Con: atmosphere, staff, pastry

At first I was excited that this cafe is open till 5pm. I had high expectations as I had been in there a long time ago and read good reviews about it, but my expectations were disappointed, but maybe I'll have to give it another try on another day. This time, I didn't enjoy the vibe or atmosphere and didn't find the staff very friendly. I liked that they sell KeepCups and offer a free drink with it if you buy one. But they only had 1 on stock.

The coffee was very good. The pastry which I tried was yummy, however tasted very raw inside.

A couple of smiles by the staff would have made a huge difference I believe!

A relaxed retro feel to this cafe, particularly the seating area out the back where we sat and listened to heavy rain falling on the tin roof. Lovely area to sit with kids - toys provided.
All the usual breakfast dishes are done very competently with free range eggs etc and coffee was good but the absolute standout for us were the brioche buns hot from the oven! So delicious we took more home for afternoon tea, but they didn't survive even 5 mins once we got in the door. The cabinet was full of delicious looking homemade pies and cakes which we intend to try next time.

Just walking into this place makes me want to hang out there for the entire day... I only ate the museli (which was incredible)... but the porridge, cooked rice, eggs and the entire lunch menu looks amazing. Great coffee too. I want to go here more often :P
