Delicious food, friendly staffs and great environment. Thank you!

This has to be the most authentic Mexican fast food place in Auckland. Really nice corn tortillas rather than the usual nasty things, nice guacamole, great to see vege rancheros with tofu and even vegan cheese for those avoiding dairy. The takeaway containers are compostable which is great to see. Best Mexican I've had since I was in San Antonio a while ago. Yum!

Burrito was good, but the salsa wasn't as hot as I was hoping and the rice was very dry, also they didn't really mix the burrito ingredients together making every bite be either all rice or all meat and salsa.

Firstly, amazing service. Super friendly and helpful. Secondly, great food. Fresh and hot. Lovely experience. Well done guys.

I'd your looking for Mexican that's not too expensive, this is the place. I highly recommend the nachos with streak. Dinner for 2 will run you about 40 bucks if you each get a drink

MJ made the night, it was the most enjoyable I have had in the best night of my life. Give this girl a raise. Katty was phenomenal and the best, also deserves a raise. MJ knew how to wrap a burrito.

Good Mexican food made to order 😜

Awesome Mexican food my friend said i would like it, i was a bit skeptical as i found Mexicali tasted like Mexican version of Subway, Mad Mex is a solid awesome feed

Great place. Amazing food. Good service. Sauces not spicy.

Absolute ripoff. Ordered a regular naked burrito, but it seems like the smaller one was served.
Not worth the money at all. Will avoid this place.

Pretty average tacos... I make better tacos... watery... wet...

I like Hapuka tacos, or high quality mince tacos... this is like... subway tacos...

Mexicali is better....

Pretty average tacos, little meats and sauce in Taco is too watery. Would recommend to dine in rather than takeaway, service and environment is ok

I think I got the worlds smallest burrito and it cost me a grand total of $13.20. I think the guy even measured out 3 small strands of lettuce. Absolute ripoff, no wonder this place is always empty!

Mad Mex seemed like one of those premium food outlets that one had to dress up and almost like mentally prepare themselves for, but below the fancy facade it was surprising accessible. It is great to have such a store here as Mexican food is severely underrated and being able to experience it Down Under is just fantastic.

I was very upbeat and expectant to be able to taste Mexican food as I have heard numerous positive things about them, however a burrito later I felt the food was bland and unexciting. Maybe that's the way they are supposed to be served - straightforward, no gimmicks, nutrient-rich but taste-poor. Though consuming such a burrito filled with many salads and good poultry protein definitely does good to your diet conscience - the food is definitely healthy.

The staff had good attitude, despite noticeable communication barriers owing to the language deficiencies of a young chap manning the burrito assembly aisle. Though he did have a very bright and positive attitude, so I will definitely commend him for that. Maybe the lack of English fluency, coupled with the strong Hispanic accent is the way to project an image of the establishment and its food as being extra authentic?

Either way, he'll definitely blast me out of the water in a Spanish speaking contest, and his English is certainly worlds better than my Spanish, so I admire him for his courage and bravery.

Came here a while ago for a friends birthday. Simple Mexican food and full of flavor. I really enjoyed the chicken burrito which had generous portions of ingredients inside-made it a filling meal! The whole store vibe and indoor setup are cool. A nice place to go for a catch-up or if you are in need of a late night take-out meal.

What a great restaurant. I was impressed how a fast food restaurant can be so organized, clean and have so delicious food. All staff were very nice and polite. Was my first time at Mad Mex and definitely I will come back.

Actually I would give a minus 0 but there was no option so I have reluctantly put 1. The food here if you can call it food made me feel sick - seriously this was the worst food I think I have ever eaten. They assured me all the meat is free range - I wonder if anyone can confirm this is true. The quality of everything was so incredibly poor hard to believe a place like this would bother with free range? weirdly some of the food tasted like it came out of a can and for some reason there seemed to be a lot of vinegar in it..I am seriously gobsmacked such disgusting food is being sold on Ponsonby road where most of the food is of quite a reasonable standard. This place makes Macdonalds look like fine dining - seriously. SHOCKINGLY bad!!

We were ordering it through UberEATS as we really loved MadMex nachos that one of our friends bought recently from the store on Fort Street. So we expected it to taste same. In fact food (meet) was cold and it was quite tasteless so I had to put my own sauces to make it better. According to low rating MadMex probably needs to change the shef.

I love Mad Mex but this is a bad location. The place is very dirty to the point where it makes me uneasy. I went the other day and the guacamole tasted funky, like it had been left out too long or made with brown avocados, which have a really distinctive rotten taste. Overall unpleasant experience and I ended up throwing most of the salad out because I was worried about getting sick. I would go to a different location.

Ordered from here via the uber eats app. Pretty disappointed, for multiple reasons: 1-food took an hour just for preparation and according to their app, total time should be approx 25-35mins. 2-half of the order was missing and we weren't even notified by the restaurant why half of our order wouldn't be showing up, nor did it show on the app that they were out of stock or anything. 3-food didn't taste great, the meat in the Grande melt I ordered tasted old, so all I ended up having was rice crackers from home with the guacamole received from them. 4-food received wasn't packed very well. Looked like a rush job, with some of our order looking as though it was thrown in tin foil. 5-the quesadilla ordered had hardly any fillings and was just a tiny bit of cheese with the odd 1-2 vege pieces in it. Won't be ordering from this place ever again. Such a waste of money and waste of time waiting over an hour for rubbish food.

Amazing food! The Burritos here are always amazing and I'm also a big fan of the Grande Melt! The staff are always lovely and it's the perfect place to go for a quick lunch or dinner if you're hungry and in the mood for Mexican :)

Got short changed and the guy who served us didn't want to accept that the computer was wrong. Argued with me and wanted to take the food back and kept banging on that his till was right. It wasn't till his manager came and showed him the error of his ways. By this time my food was cold and soda was hot. He also cut corners by putting the salsa that goes on the side with the nacho chips all over them. And didn't wait for the timer to ring before taking out the quesadilla...Lazy untrained argumentative staff sums up this place.

Being that I'm not much of a cook, and also being a health conscious consumer on a budget, I've become a regular at Mad Mex. Even more to the point, I'm from Texas, which makes me a bit of a Tex Mex snob. This place is like a little slice of home, and simply can't be beat in quality at this price point.

I'd also like to recognize the staff. They are unfailingly engaging and polite, yet also efficient, so expect many more visits from me.
Food 24/7
We came here around 9pm last night , tired and hungry from work and Mad Mex was the closest place from where we parked the car lol
There was only one staff on and we were the third in line, took him almost 15mins to serve us ( should have left by then , bad start)

I had the Naked Chicken burrito and my partner had the Naked Pork Burrito. $12.90 each.
The staff was so stingy with the servings , one tiny spoon of meat, ever smaller hand full of shredded lettuce and a teaspoon of salsa which was mostly drenched in water . I had to ask for more lettuce as i didn't want cheese or rice in mine .

The chicken tasted ok, but gosh the pork was GROSS, tasted like cheap canned tuna with a bad aftertaste . I had to spit it out which is big for me as I don't usually like to waste food . 😞

Would not be returning, waste of money and time .

Really nice service and exactly what is expected from the subway of Mexican food. Great late night weekend option. Especially if you are in the area but probably not worth a special trip

We came here to grab some dinner to take home after a couple of drinks in Ponsonby. We both had the Grande Melte vegetarian, and it was delicious, packed with vegetables, black beans, guacamole and cheese.

We also took home some corn chips and salsa, and the salsa was the only thing that could be improved. In my opinion it was lacking in flavours and needed more coriander/herbs to spice it up a little.

Other than the salsa, the food was delicious and fast, the prices are reasonable, the decor inside is really attractive and the staff were super friendly. We will definitely come back, and I'd love to try the quesadilla next.

This place is great for a cheap, quick dinner if you love mexican food. They are generous with toppings too! Would definitely go back for either eat in or takeaway.

I heard great things about Mad Mex when I arrived in Auckland. It would be that Mad Mex would be my first "food experience" in the city. My cousin took me out to Mad Mex one evening, and interestingly enough, I was not disappointed. So here are my notes:

The +'s:
>THE FOOD: Mad mex scores whatever it scores just because their food is really good. The flavours are rich, and the ingredients are fresh. It helps that the put the whole meal together in front of your eyes, and you can choose what goes in and doesn't. I do wish they had stuff with smaller portions, because I hate wasting food, and the smallest burrito they had was too huge for me. >THE STAFF: People in New Zealand are generally friendly, but the boys at MadMex took friendly to another level. They were super nice, and armed with a sense of humour, and when they found out I was a tourist, they made sure I had an extra special experience by giving me the right recommendations.
>THE LOCATION: Ponsonby is an excellent choice of area for a restaurant. Walking distance from all the hotspots in Ponsonby, Mad Mex is great to grab a meal before you head out for a night of drinking.
>THE PRICES: Reasonable. Great value for money

The -'s :
>THE AMBIENCE: Slightly shabby, and nothing to brag about. The seating isn't great either. The only redeeming factor is the seating area where you can see the street, and there is no guarantee you will be able to get that table.

The -?'s:
> AUTHENTICITY: The food isn't exactly authentic, but I have to admit it is delicious. If you're anal about the the authenticity of the food, Mad Mex may not impress.

I wouldn't pick Mad Mex for a date or an evening out with the family, but it's a great place to grab a quick burrito after work, or just catch up with friends over a decent meal. Good value for money.

Nice food, clean with comfy seats. Reasonably priced.

This is our new go to place for a quick easy meal. The barbacoa burrito is so good. The staff are getting better about how to actually roll a burrito which is good. We are from the states and miss Chipotle and Qdoba, for any other Americans this is the closest we have found to them. They also have a loyalty card which is nice. I think Mexicali Fresh is good too, we just like the flavours here a little more and it is cheaper too ($12 a burrito vs. $14 at Mexicali). Super happy they moved in to the neighbourhood. Try the nacho sauce on your burrito... Amazing!

Just checked out the new Mad Mex on Ponsonby Rd.

I enjoyed a chicken burrito. Don't expect anything different here, as its a rather formulaic menu and no different from Mexicali Fresh. Despite asking for the hot spicy sauce it didn't have much kick. However, overall it was tasty.

I'm sure it will give the below average Taqueria a run for its money!
