Review Pho Viet - Auckland Central

I ate B7 menu. It's a little bit spicy originally, but I put some spices for more spicy flavor. Noodles and Meats were soft. And it has coriander a bit, but it's not too much. Enough.

Located in a diverse food court that is now busy at lunch time (as my friend tells me, there’s huge turnover here especially during Covid). Hanoi Eatery is definitely a standout restaurant for me. I had the bun cha hanoi (pork) and my friend had the fried fish noodle soup. My bun cha was extremely tasty, there were two decent pork meatballs and lots of grilled pork bits, they also gave me a decent portion of rice noodles/greens and the nuoc Cham was super tasty. Great value/taste dish, this is also the BEST bun cha I’ve had in NZ and I don’t even like pork (haha). It doesn’t have a strong pork taste if that makes sense. My friends fish soup was comforting on a windy day but lacked the generosity of the fish to noodle ratio compared to my pork to noodle ratio. I probably wouldn’t order the noodle soup again but would love to try their pho which I can imagine it to be tasty. Again, the bun cha was fantastic ! The only downside is they don’t accept credit cards so come prepared with cash on your card.

A good hidden gem on Queen Street. The food was made brought out very quickly by staff. Lot of sauces available. Would recommend the beef pho! Summer rolls were also a very filling option!

amazing food! First time to try Vietnam noodle soup with fried fish and fish balls! Nice flavor with a great amount of veggies! Tomatoes and green leaves (上海青). Especially in this time when vegetables are super expensive… appreciated! Highly recommend! Reasonable price as well!

We’ve been loyal customers since its opened. The quality of food never changes, always amazing food cooked with alot of love. My fav is Bun rieu cua: vermicelli noodle with crab meat, eggs, tofu and vietnamese ham. My gf fav is Bun Mang Vit: vermicelli noodle with duck and bamboo shoot. The broth is just amazing for both dishes. We also recommend Bun Bo Hue too! :)

We had the Pho Ga and Bun Rieu Cua. The food was excellent, the Bun Rieu Cua has great crab mince, and the soup is very flavourful! This location had the best vietnamese food I have had in Auckland!

I’m addicted to the chicken pho here 😭 I have been here several times now. The chicken is always tender and the broth is full of flavour. Their price is unbeatable in the CBD - generous amount of noodles and chicken. The owners are also friendly. Although it is located in a busy food court, do give it a try because you will not regret it.

This is small counter-serve Vietnamese restaurant in a smallish food court. We liked the Pho so much we ate here twice over a 7 day stay: something amazing about a giant bowl of noodle soup on cold & rainy Auckland days! Husband and wife team work the kitchen and man the counter. Both super nice! On first visit they were cash only (only cash I needed for our entire trip) but on second visit they took credit cards. So, am assuming the machine was down initially. Would definitely eat here again.

flavourful broth, perfectly cooked noodles but was let down by the quality of the beef. still the best place in town for pho, in my opinion!

Some of the best and homiest Vietnamese food you'll try in Auckland. I have been going to Hanoi Eatery since 2018 (when it used to be called Hanoi Corner). They have consistently been making great food for all those years and still continue to do so. My go-to order here is the Rare Beef Pho, Egg Banh Mi and the Soy milk with grass jelly. The Pho portions here are very generous, giving you enough that you may have to share with a friend. The bowl comes with lots of that clean but beefy broth. The Egg Banh mi trumps all the Banh mi i've ever had in Auckland. The omelette is soft, salted just right and goes so well with the buttered baguette. The pickled veges pairs well with the egg and the coriander is a must! For $3.50, the Soy milk with grass jelly is actually such a treasure. The soy milk is definitely an asian soy milk - not like the ones you get in the supermarket - so its more soy forward which i enjoy. I never liked grass jelly before but in this drink it works so well. The rice dishes here are also great. They give you lots of vege and a generous amount of meat. I always order too much food but somehow it disappears all too quickly because its so good. Think you'd be pleased with anything you order here!

The beer soup today was super salty and the meatball condition was bad. My girlfriend tried the Bun Bo Hue and the beef was so dry and taste a little bit bitter. Will never come back :(
Sorry_vonguenumber
Nice friendly people working the counter. I always take away. I almost always only have their beef meatball which is just amazing. The tomato based gravy is amazing.

In a rainy day, I miss my hometown so much. I just went to Bun Bo Hue. It was really nice with tasty soup but it was too salty for me. The noodles was too much but I don’t mind 🥰. Hm...I just confused that I remembered they had meat balls compared to the last time I came here. However, love this place 💛

I don’t write reviews often, but this Pho is the best i’ve had in New Zealand. After going to Vietnam last year this is the only one that compares. Big portions and friendly staff too. I got the rare beef pho.

Very yummy authentic Vietnamese food. I have been coming here on and off for the last 2 years and my favourite would be the Pork Rib Noodle Soup (No. 11). The owner is friendly and the food proportion is big so you always get an excellent satisfying feast.

Service: 4/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Presentation: 4/5
Environment: 3/5
Price: 5/5

Average Vietnamese restaurant. Chicken pho was very oily and spring roll sauces were floating with dust stuff I don't know what it is. Thinking about all the nearby Vietnamese restaurants in this area I wouldn't choose this place out of other ones.

Perfect for pre movie snack. Their chicken is really nice too. Soup is tasty. Good for before after movie and arcades.

Quick and easy.

Service: 4/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 4/5
Presentation: 3/5
Environment: 3/5
Price per person: $10-$20

Not a big fan of their beef pho flavour. Broth doesn’t taste quite right, not quite what we used to. Reasonable in price though and cook quite fast. Their summer roll is average. Maybe we will try different dish next time.
Gus
I had the rare beef pho. Generous helping of beef, I prefer the noodles a touch more firm but they were fine. The broth was delicious, sweet meaty and fragrant. Very enjoyable

This place is amazing, the food is delicious. I got bùn bó huế and it was full of flavour and I finished it to the last drop.
I will definitely be coming here more often when I can

The pho is out of this world and some of the best I've tasted in Auckland. I had the beef brisket pho with Vietnamese iced milk coffee and it was the perfect combo. I'll be going back for more.
AnnDeg
Very tasty chicken pho and a large serving that you can probably even share! For 12$ you wont go wrong with this one. Quite tastier than most viet pho restos i’ve been to. This one’s a gem!
Quinn Mai
Greatest pho in town I would say. And Mrs. Lien is so lovely I can stay there and talk for ages. Portion is huge. It is located in a foodcourt but the ambience is quite good and it’s hygienic. Always stop by whenever I crave for Vietnamese food.

Had a hearty beef pho for dinner here tonight. For some reason the pho came out almost instantly (3 minutes after I ordered and paid). The broth was different to the normal clear one that I was expecting, but the taste was great, although on the VERY salty side! There were also many pieces of beef and a fair amount of bean sprouts so I was happy! It's not bad for cheap eats on a cold wintry night. :)
Vincent
Too salty even after half lemon squeezed , waiting half an hour for my food and it contains lot of fat , could hardly finish. Presentation is ok , has some vegie to lessen the saltiness

Had the Beef Brisket soup with Noodle, it was fantastic my partner had the Pork on Rice which was larger than expected. Portions are very large and generous. Service was amazing and the meal time was quick and we had our food in under 5 minutes.
Amod Indap
Massive portion size (for my appetite). Ordered the duck with bamboo shoots pho. My first time, but quite similar to the other 'noodle soup' preparations IMO. The broth was certainly the best I've had so far in Auckland. Duck was lean, which was a big plus as the Chinese preparation has more fatty ones. Bamboo shoots were not too strong however. The red chilli gives a good kick, plus they have chilli oil and other condiments too. Might come back to try more options available on their menu. Service was quick and staff was friendly.

Edit: Visited again, this time for Banh Mi. My first time, so no reference scale. Impressed with whatever was offered, esp the size and the meat quantity ($10). Can easily give the subway sandwich a serious competition. The baguette was nice and crispy despite going for a take away and having it sometime later when all the juices were soaked in. Worth a try.

I really like the food here, (Pho Viet) because it's really typically Vietnamese. The food that I ate there is bun bo. I used to eat bun bo in other places, but it's not really same in Vietnam as Pho Viet did. I quite like the soup and it's very big for me to finish all. If you have a chance, please try one time!
Ravi
It's quite a busy place for dining in with restaurants all around. The customer service is good. I had soup with noodles. I kind of felt like the soup was not as flavoured as I expected.

As a proud ching gu of the Vietnamese clan I can say they sell the best pho in Auckland. It's the closing authentic tasting pho I had, the soup is amazing full of flavor and rice noodles are soft and melts in your mouth. Very fast service too, just a two minute wait and my food is already ready.

I recommend this place if you wanna try some good Vietnamese food.
Roanna Li
I always come here to get the chicken pho! I like the service but that is probably because I am so used to coming here. Never had any problems with their other dishes but then again iv only tried their spring rolls. All in all, so far this is the only place i come to get pho from.. Wohld be awesome if they could make a pho with beef tripe
Tim Lee
DAMN! Not good manners! I PERSONALLY DON'T BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY RETURNING CUSTOMERS. The food is very average compared to other Vietnamese places. The customer service is non-existent. The old lady with poor customer service is really making me regret having chosen this place. Besides, Please wash your lemon properly as the labels have not been removed. YUCK!! I DON'T HAVE CONFIDENCE THAT THEY HAVE FOLLOWED STRICT HYGIENE PRACTICE INSIDE THE KITCHEN. PROBABLY WON'T BE BACK IN ORDER TO AVOID A TUMMY UPSET.

TL;DR: Flavourful and filling food at a good price. Typical food court ambiance.

Sometimes when I can't be bothered cooking dinner, I'll pop by the food court and pick up something to go. Pho Viet was always an appealing options because of its price. Here's how it went:

Food: I have only had the Pho Ga (Chicken noodle soup) from here before (pictured below, in my own bowl because I had it as takeaway :P) I'm not too familiar with Vietnamese cuisine, but I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The broth had depth and was rich in flavour, which complemented the noodles really well. The chili that comes with it is also fairly spicy for me, so I usually only add half of what I'm given - it adds a nice heat kick to the soup. I suggest drinking a few spoonfuls of the soup first before adding/mixing the chili in so you can get both flavours. The lemon slice is also a great addition as it cuts through some of the oiliness of the broth, leaving you with a refreshing, clean taste of chicken soup. Delicious!

Service: Takeaway is extremely fast as they only have to pack the noodles and soup, which both are precooked. They are pretty flexible in terms of customisations - in my case, I remove onions and coriander and leave in the bean sprouts. Owner is professional and will always warn you that the chili is spicy.

Price: I believe the menu recently got an overhaul, looking a lot fresher, but accompanied by price increases, which is understandable. The Pho Ga was previously $11, and now is $12~$12.50. I think this is still fairly reasonable considering the large serving size you're getting, and as a university student, I wouldn't hesitate that much to buy it for dinner.

Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised to find something this delicious in a food court. Then again, I've found numerous 'surprises' in food courts as well. I may give one of their rice dishes a try next time, but you really can't go wrong with their Pho Ga. Will be visiting again soon :)

Been craving for Vietnamese noodle, I came across this place after looking through many review. Decided on this place due to close to where we're staying at the moment, we came one day lunch and ordered Bun Bo Hue. Having Vietnamese in-laws has honed my taste in authentic Vietnamese food so I can confidently say this is lacking in the spicy flavour and taste. For a pho, this is a pass but not for Bun Bo Hue but I won't complain as it's what you'd expect in a food court. It does well in curbing my cravings.

Best pho ever. I come here at least once a week. The staff and owner are also very friendly if you get to know them, but I'm a biased regular. At $11 it's the best value for money I can think of in the cbd if you're looking for a big bowl of soup.
Medium_Rare
Quality Pho diner and conveniently located in the IMAX Food court, I enjoyed the Pho here and for an outstanding price $11.

On a Friday night I was little concerned at how long things would take but my worries were resolved when 10 minutes later I had my bowl of Pho in front of me.

In terms of taste, I was impressed. Not as flavoursome as Try It Out but not far away either. The broth was amazing and the beef was indeed Medium Rare. Definitely better than most Viet places in Auckland. My friend had the dry noodle which he commented as impressive as well.

Showstopper: Top notch pho on Queen Street

Overall Grade: B+

Worst place ever! The food is below average compared to other Vietnamese places. The customer service is terrible. The old lady who I believe is the owner, is always so grumpy. Been here a few times but wouldn't come back from now on.

Lots of tasty Vietnamese cuisine are hided in food courts. It is unable to fell the real Vietnamese taste at a modern and luxury restaurant in most cases. I love the beef rice-noodle soup there. Fresh, tasty and big serving size. Service is friendly.
Maria
This is a nice place located at the Metro food court. I really liked their beef vermicelli. The beef was cooked nicely and the noodles were cooked perfectly. It went along really well with the coriander and carrots. It wasn't priced too much at $11/12. I still would've preferred a lower price though. The staff seemed nice. I'd come back here again to try other Vietnamese dishes since they price their food well.
Juanine
Tried out their summer rolls last night. They were not the greatest but we still good. The sauce was tasty but you needed more of it. Not a massive selection but very reasonably priced.
Grubking
Decent food here with reasonable prices being in a food court. They mostly have fresh stuff in their preps bar the odd occasion and that's what matters. I've found them usually out of their coffee but if they have it, that's one thing I cannot do without. Got hooked the first time I ever went to Vietnam :)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had beef pho here yesterday , and OMG I didn't expected to get an exquisite pho soup in the food court! It was really tasty, and ridiculously cheap! Very authentic, the broth just perfect! Would love to come back ;)

I'm not a fan of dining in food court but since this is a Vietnamese food outlet I gave it a go. The first time I ate here was in 2011, I ordered the Hue spicy beef noodle soup and loved it. The best dishes here in my opinion are the fish noodle soup and the spicy beef noodle soup. However the quality of food is not consistent, sometimes very nice but sometimes inedible. The last time I visited I had a bowl of fish noodle soup and I felt like it was put in a microwave because some ingredients are still cold. I have stopped eating here for a while since I experienced stomachache several times afterwards. Anyway the owner is a very nice and friendly lady. Such a shame she couldn't keep up the quality of food as well as before.

Cheap awesome place to go for pho! The duck noodle soup has a lot of meat, also the soup is full of flavour! In my opinion, this is the place which offers the best pho in the town! Love the place!
Paul Evans
This place is super cheap and ridiculously tasty. I love the Pho Bo Tai. Great authentic flavours and fresh chilli for a little burn. It's hidden away at the back, but worth seeking out!!!

Tasty authentic food, great value. Absolutely one of the best places to eat in the CBD. Duck noodle soup (fresh beansprouts, bamboo shoots & delicious slices of duck in a tasty soup) and the Vietnamese pork baguette are highly recommended.
Only $9-11 per dish, simply unbeatable for freshness & flavor.

WOW! What a hidden gem!

One of the most authentic vietnamese food you will get your hands on amongst all of the vietnamese restaurants popping up everywhere. Having a Vietnamese partner makes me super picky with vietnamese food because I can get it at home.

I had zero expectations when I ordered from this place as it is in a food court but the quality of the food blew my mind! It was delicious without being immensely salty and spiked with msg. The prices were amazing, for $38 we got two mains, a huge side which could be a main and 2 amazing cups of vietnamese black coffee. The condiments and sauces were on point, even the complimentary soup was yum!

If you don't mind sitting in a food court, I would super recommend this place! Great place to go to before the movies!

Can't wait until I come back and try more dishes!
Brenda Phu
The food here is amazing.
I always order their no.1 Pho Bo Tai with extra fresh chillis.
The noodles are soft, subtle yummy soup, and rare meat.
The service is attentive and fast, especially in the busy food court.
A great cheap eat with huge portions.
TonyF3
Consistently good pho and spring rolls. I had doubts about this place at first as it was in a food court. Many supposed viet places in the city are not ran by vietnamese folks. This one is run by a vietnamese family. Great place overall for vietnamese comfort food.
Aniva Huang
This is probably the best cheap eat Vietnamese restaurant available in Auckland CBD. I love their bun cha which is pork belly and pork meatballs in a fish sauce like soup then served with thick rice vermicelli noodles ! It's soo good! The pork belly is a bit tough but everything else makes up for it!

I really should try the other dishes but I absolutely love this one and it's only $11!
FOODFANATICJIMMY
Had to watch the new Terminator movie so decided to order from two different places before the movie. Since it was raining, I felt like a nice warm noodle soup so this was the obvious option for me. I ordered the fried spring rolls with chicken rice noodle soup. The spring rolls were much better than what Id expected but I found traces of whole peppers which were a bit too strong. Much similar to the pho bien restaurant fried spring rolls, overall, the outer casing was very crispy with the fillings perfectly seasoned and soft. The chicken rice noodle soup was also much better than I'd expected. The broth was quite rich and well seasoned. The only downside is that there was a bit too much onion and coriander. Probably best to ask to leave out the onions and coriander. The portion size was very good which left me full for few hours. Overall, a decent restaurant in a foodcourt that is worth adventuring.
Cherie
The crab noodles is to die for! They are very generous on the crab loaf or whatever they call it and it comes with other toppings such as fried tofu cubes, pork balls and water spinach, all very well combined in a meaty crabby, sweet and sour broth, I've never had anything like that in other Vietnam restaurants in Auckland, so far my to go place for Vietnam pho/noodles.
Joseph Beckett
Best Pho in Auckland city. The Pho Ga is not to be missed. Good portion sizes for a great price!

OMG, probably the best of the best authentic Vietnamese food I've ever eaten in Auckland, their noodle beef soup (raw beef) Pho is the best and other dishes as well spring rolls, porkchop rice, fish noodle, crab noodle, you will forget the Chinese wanna-be Vietnamese Hansan immediately. My partner is a big fan of Pho and we were trying to find a great Vietnamese place. We have been a fan since they were in the countdown metro foodcourt until they change to be in iMAX METRO ///// IF YOU LOVE PHO you have to give it a try, plus the owner is lovely too, the size is very big, yummy, cheap and cheerful!
Charles Pludthura
So here's the deal...I've been to the tried and true - from Try it out, Sam Woo's and Vietnam Cafe in Otahuhu, to Saigonz and Pho Saigon in the City, plus most of the Vietnamese stalls around the myriad of Auckland food courts. But I finally found a contender for the title of best pho in Auckland....Pho Viet is non-descript, and has been a part of the IMAX cinema food court on Queen St since July I believe. I was a bit of a piggie because not only did I have the best pho (opted for the pho with medium rare steak) I've ever had in Auckland, but I also had the Bun Cha Gio too (rice vermicelli with fried spring rolls). Decent-sized portions and more than enough chunks of delicious spring rolls to keep a hungry man happy. Probably the best version of that dish I've had in Auckland to keep the theme of this review going, but it would have been total food ecstasy had they had some fresh vietnamese mint on the side too and just a tad more punch in their Nuoc Mam Cham dressing. All in all though - if you like Vietnamese food, get your buttocks down there. Cheap as chips, quality and authentic food, amazing find. Sooner or later it will get dumped into one of those Metro Top 10 Cheap Eat places to visit, so get there before it does.
CBDFoodie
Delicious pho, tender beef and choc full of slow cooked complex flavours in the broth. Loads of noodles, so filling a bargain at $10. This pho is comfort in a bowl. Spring rolls were ok-not quite as light as we may have liked a little oily but again great value piled up on fresh noodles and crispy lettuce with a pretty dipping sauce. Service was fast & friendly. Atmosphere is as you would expect being in a busy food hall but the food more than makes up for it and prices are food court prices so no complaints.
Nom Nom Panda
Probably the best pho we have tried in Auckland, with a real broth rather than MSG water, flavours of lemongrass and ginger, and accompanied by properly hot chillies and a wedge of lemon. We were surprised to be asked whether we wanted coriander and onion on top though. Of course we do, and more herbs, please! (We have only seen perilla, sawtooth coriander, Vietnamese mint, etc. offered at Cafe Hanoi in Britomart.)

The other dish we tried, the bun cha, was not that great though, and did not come with a separate bowl of fish sauce.

Plenty of rice noodles, so no chance of being hungry afterwards. Also centrally located in the IMAX food court, so it doesn't matter if your friends aren't into Vietnamese.
