Review Toshi Japanese Restaurant Royal Oak - Auckland Central

We usually get the platters and they’re great value for money - not to mention the taste of the sushi is amazing! Definitely get the aburi salmon and the prawn tempura! It’s the best!

Got takeaway so it doesn’t look the prettiest. But the flavours were 🤤🫡. The Chicken Katsu with egg donburi is a safe choice. The spicy chicken donburi has a good amount of spice. Would recommend both.

Absolute gem of a restaurant. The food is incredible- flavours hit all the right spots every single time. My personal favourites are anything with the teriyaki tofu, but I've tried most other dishes on the menu and can confidently say they are all equally delicious. Great quality, great value, and great service too!!

Best tasting sushi around Royal Oak. We often get their sushi platter and it's always a treat. Always fresh and delicious, presented well so great for parties. You can order and pick up, plenty of parking close by. Friendly staff and always on time. Highly recommended.

Found this little gem hidden right after the big royal oak roundabout. We were craving some Japanese food and came across this place. Customer service is welcoming and friendly. You get a free miso soup if you follow them on Instagram. I’m not sure how long that promo will last. But it’s a great complimentary to your big meals. We had the katsu chicken curry and the karaage chicken udon. It was delicious and was so filling. Enjoyed it.

It’s a small restaurant but the food was amazing! I ordered Teriyaki Salmon Bento, it’s freshly cooked and the flavor was great! Every time I passed it, seeing lots of people are in the queue to pick up or waiting for the order. Obviously, it’s quite popular. Finally I got the chance to try. Thanks for letting me have a very pleasant dinner.

Great salmon aburi and bento sets! Also one of the best, if not the best, prawn tempura in Auckland.😋 Our go-to local Japanese place. Really good value. Simple clean food, well-made.

Was yummy!!! But I didn't realise the eel donburi was brought out on cold sushi rice. The staff was lovely though and heated it up for me cause I'm pregnant .. although I was still a little apprehensive about eating it as I wasn't sure how old the rice was, and wasn't hot just like warm - That's my fault though and thankfully didn't get sick. I could've asked to just change for fresh rice and I'm sure they would have done that for me.

It was a cold day so we stopped by for some delicious hot curry and boy was it good! I adore Japanese curry. I had the chicken karaage curry and A had the chicken katsu curry. The rice and curry and pickle were just so delicious and the regular size bowl was very filling. The karaage was hot and fresh. I had a ramune soda which is a very uniquely packaged soda and tastes very distinct. We also ordered okonomiyaki and boy was it delicious! So much sauce on it! Yum! It comes cut into 4 so it's easy to eat. So glad we decided to stop here. The lady serving was so very sweet.

They serve the freshest sushi here. The Japanese curry and Yakiniku Beef are so tasty - definitely must try. Staff here are very hospitable. Couldn't recommend this casual Japanese eatery enough.

Great place, super friendly staff and fast service. Got bento bowl, sushi and a side of tempura veg. The tempura was a standout! Open during Covid-19 level 3 via phone order and pickup.

Fresh and very delicious. The wasabi wasn’t the cheap cheap kind too. Overall great. But the pieces were a bit small. If they were bigger would give 5 stars!

A low-key Japanese restaurant located near the busier Royal Oak shopping mall. Delicious Tuna sashimi and tasty rice in Donburi. Great value and worth to keep visiting!

Good to see a vegetarian menu that has more than one choice.

i eat here all the time!! it’s absolutely delicious😄the seating area is quite small but it’s usually not very packed so you can easily get a seat if you want to dine in. i always get the chicken katsu curry and it’s the best thing ever! it’s so well made and a good portion size😄the only thing i could say about it is that be careful with the takeaway boxes since i find that when i get the curry, the cardboard takeaway box doesn’t hold very well and there’s generally a lot of spillage. but they give you a bag to put it in so it’s not too bad. the staff are very nice and patient so i definitely recommend this place🙌🙌🎉

Beautiful food - the Korean cuisine is especially tasty! Lovely people and service too. The price is very cheap for such good quality - yummy!

We came here for dinner around 7pm on a Saturday night. There was plenty of space as there weren't many diners, plus the interior is quite spacious.

Tucked away off the main Royal Oak roundabout there isn't much space for parking in the little block of shops the store is nestled in, however there is plenty of street space.

You can choose either Korean or Japanese dishes from two separate menus so we got some BBQ pork belly, pan seared Salmon and some sashimi. Whenever you eat Korean cuisine you get served side dishes and there was a nice variety here with two types of kimchi, sweetened potato, pancake, jelly, and sprouts. Unsure if these are set, or if they change weekly or monthly.

The pork belly came with a bean paste and a pepper oil for dipping, plus lettuce for wrapping to have as a ssam. The salmon came with a lovely sweet teriyaki sauce, quite thick but slightly heavy. The sashimi was mostly fresh, the snapper had a slight off taste and was chewy.

There isn't much choice for drinks if you enjoy the selections you get from Asian restaurants, but there is your standard Coke range and energy drink options that go well with takeaway. There is Mogu Mogu with limited flavours.

Dinner cost $30 each so not too expensive. I don't know if side dishes are served if you order only Japanese dishes and I can't say how authentic the Korean food is (we didn't order the soup or the sizzling plate like bulgolgi) plus we were unsure of the nationality of the chef.

You can also grab sushi from the counter and they did look plump and at $1.50 per piece relatively inexpensive. All in all a nice night out and we'll likely come again to try some other dishes.

I visited Toshi for lunch for the first time today . It was great .Very clean .The decor really gives the place a good feel . The Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious . They offer 2 menus . Japanese , including a fresh takeaway sushi bar . And also a Korean food menu . The mains come with 3 complementary tasty side dishes . I will defiantly be going back .

Nice and clean. Good decore. Extensive menu: Japanese and Korean. The dinner boxes are tasty. Service is a bit slack. We sat for ages waiting for them to take our order and no one even looked over. Only three other small dining groups in restaurant. Kitchen seemed stressed and servers were busy looking at bits of paper behind the counter. Will be a great place if they sort their service.
