Review Cafe Miko - Auckland Central

Em Dee
The best thing about this cafe is that it’s located in the heart of the botanic gardens. Whether your taking your dog for a walk or catching up with a mate or celebrating a special milestone, this cafe caters to all! We come here on a weekly basis. I have previously ordered the wedges with coffee - although the wedges were good, the coffee does not taste pleasant at all, it’s way too bitter. I always regret getting it from here but when coffee calls I got to get it! We have got the pizzas, they’re all very tasty with a thin crust! Today, which I have taken photos, we ordered pork belly and the big breakfast, they were both satisfying, mash potatoes were creamy, sausage was done right and tasted good, eggs were so good I didn’t need sauce and pork belly had the crackling which was amazing! On average the meals are around $25-$26 each. Overall it was a good lunch spot, our dog just chills with the water bowl available for them. Dog friendly places are always the best!

The only cafe inside Auckland Botanic Garden. The location, the atmosphere, and the service are all excellent. It will be amazingly nice if the kitchen can have more varieties to offer.

Yummy Food. Fantastic staff. Especially the Thai lady that served us. Super friendly 😊

The staff were friendly and listened to your order so that they could make sure there was no mixup. A relaxing atmosphere and highly recommend this cafe. Delicious food and a variety of sweet and savoury food in the cabinet, or you can choose made to order.

Love their handcrafted pizza! Beautiful environment, friendly staffs. Love the size of their ice chocolate with right amount of ice. Worth visiting and have a little walk in garden afterwards.

My wife Jacqueline booked this venue for a family get together of about 15 people. We had a wonderful time there and thoroughly recommend this venue. The staff were great especially the manager Dereck and Natalie. We had originally cancelled our booking as we had decided to set up a picnic and utilise the food trucks. Luckily the manager kept our booking and due to the poor weather, we ended up using the booking! The customer service is 10/10 and the food and coffee was delicious overlooking the gardens.

Lovely lunch for our large family group, Dereck was so helpful attending to all our requests and the food & service was great. There was no.problem adjusting the menu to our needs

I had the chicken roll with a side salad. It was okay. Nothing special, to be honest. The staff were really great though and it was really busy Will definitely come back to try something else

Loved my pizza yesterday at miko. Natalie gave us awesome customer service and really felt like part of the cultural. Highly recommend for pizza and coffee.

Great cafe at Botanical Gardens! Quiche and flat white was total 18 dollars and it was worth it. If you seat on the terrace seat maybe some birds wanna join your table btw.

Very busy on the weekend, great indoor and outdoor sitting that suits all weather. Food was good, some good choices between cooked and cabinets food. Interestingly large size coffee come in a bowl (cup without the handle)... 😅

Very popular place! Suprisesd the long waiting line to order. The staff was weirdly friendly, some staff answered "what's up" for some help... The food had some hair but they changed the food immediately. The interior is beautiful, coffee was awful ever (worst than a patrol station). Overall it's good to chill out for visiting the garden but may not have much expectation for the coffee and food.

The only thing I keep coming back for are their wedges. So delicious and made perfect every time. Their other menu food is unpredictable. When it's good, it's fantastic. But other times it can be kind of disappointing even when it's the same dish. Portion sizes vary each time as well, almost like it depends on what plate sizes they have on hand. Food is always best in a non busy day. Coffee is almost always lukewarm so I stay away from it. I will always be back for those wedges though! Edit: Came back recently and I was blown away. Their chicken pizza was amazing and loaded with the toppings. And as always, wedges were great! Pulled pork sandwiches were good but wished there was more sauce.

Miko Cafe at the Auckland Botanic Garden’s has friendly service and this very bustling cafe, offers great espresso and the thin crust chicken pizzas are the perfect lunch treat when you’re sat outside on the grass. Despite his busy the cafe gets, service delivery is very good and prices are reasonable. The smoothies are also delicious too, when available.

The burger was reasonably priced. Within 5 minutes I had a very interesting looking burger and a rather small portion of chips. Looking at other reviews, it does seem that the portions are on the small side, and that service can depend on what day you go. If the Cafe isnt for you, then you can go for a nice long walk in the Botanical Gardens.

Worst eggs benedict ive ever had.
Zomato needs to updated this site for cafe Miko.
Nicole Morrison
Coffee is super expensive, especially for how average it is. There is no opening hours stated anywhere at the venue. I had to search on Zomato just to find out what time it opens. All this whilst I stood outside the door and two employees just stared at me, instead of popping their heads out to let me know they opened 20 mins later. I came back at opening and then waited a further 5 mins for them to open their doors at 8:05am

Great coffee and service with a smile. The lady who makes coffee is good at remembering her customers and very pleasant.

Had the bacon and egg pie today and it was brilliant.

The only cafe nearby within botanical garden. Great place to unwind after a long walk. Abit on the expensive side. Food average, service can be a bit brash because they are busy. Help yourself to water and seats. We ordered quiche with salad, pies with salad, kumara salad, three coffees and burger with fries. Come to nearly $80.

It’s the only cafe inside Botanic Gardens. It’s cozy, but the food’s just average conpared to other cafes here. Coffee’s nice though. Needs more improvement overall.

Ordered a smoothie bowl and was told it would have granola, kiwi fruit and banana on top - had a very small amount of granola, a few halved slices of kiwi fruit and 2 pieces of orange with the skins on. Cost about $17 and the bowl was very runny and the taste was very overpowering and sweet couldn’t actually eat it not the usual thick consistency of smoothie bowls. Very underwhelming for the price.

Have been here a number of times and have had a pleasant experience every time. This cafe is a go-to for a good start to your day - with it being set in the Auckland Botanic Gardens, a relaxing atmosphere is promised.

There’s a range of food available for brunch, including the cabinet foods. One down side is that there are barely any vegetarian options. The wait time is reasonable, given that it always seem quite busy. The staff are all friendly and do their jobs to a high standard.

Will definitely recommend this place if you happen to have a day out at the botanic garden planned!

Food: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 10/10

Food was ok but pretty average. There were a couple of vegetarian options, but nothing much. The setting is nice though. We got there quite early (10:30am) with not many people in the cafe, yet there was still a queue. There was one server, who was super slow. He had to take all the orders, all the money and also get all the food from the cabinet. Sort your staff numbers out, one person can't do it all. When we left the gardens at 12pm, the queue was out the door.

Loved the food, great customer service with friendly staff. Ordered the fish burger and had some of the Thai curry, which was delicious. Hot chocolate felt like the ones my mother made me. Would definitely be back again

Sadly this cafe needs to improve their kai. It’s over priced for what you get. People don’t mind spending money if the food is good. Please improve. Regards a local

30 mins for 2 coffees. Everyone else after us had food and coffee all served. When asked where our order was had to wait another 5 min. Coffee was brought to us with no apology for the wait at all.

This is my first review, which I feel compelled to write after an unfortunate experience. While the ambience is reasonable, with nice views overlooking the gardens, the food and staff are unpleasant. The staff had to approach us after our order to ask again what we had ordered, and then returned slamming it down on the table. Nicely put, they were quite rude and unhelpful. The food was average at best; we asked for a scone to be heated and received a cold and stale one. Would not return, but hope service improves.

Central place located in the gardens but Very busy during the weekend. The Miko burger and coffee is ok. A good place to fill up the tummy at the gardens
Tanz
Waited 25min for a single simple salmon with salad dish. Healthy salad, but taste like grass, no flavour. Tiny tiny piece of salmon, less than 50gram. Terrible experience.
Thompson AJ
poached eggs over cooked for the entire table. was very underwhelming as this cafe had a great reputation. pretty expensive and didn't feel I got a good monies worth.
Mei
Poached eggs were nice on the benedict and Gardeners Breakfast. Nice salad too but not so sure about the spiralised carrots. They were a feature and we thought it should be finer. I enjoyed my long sliced carrots and zucchini in vinegar which I would have liked with any meal. It was an honest meal and you know exactly what you are eating. No frills. Views here is great with big windows that look out onto sculptures and garden. There is always something on here that teaches you the many ways to appreciate plants.
We also went to the Botanical Drawings exhibition which is showing some fantastic talent. Very very impressed with the artists. A must see.

Never wrote any reviews before. But I have to this time cause this place is absolutely HORRIBLE. Food itself is not bad but it’s definitely so overpriced. A plate of wedges with cheese and bacon is $15.50? And it’s not even real bacon!!! Ham and bacon are different okay?? Waited my food for 20mins cause it’s been sitting by the window with no one to attend to while there are clearly idle staff walking passed it, so many times. Until the end I realise that might be my food ordered and have to ask the waiter to bring it over.

Please don’t come here!!!
Gordon Geko
food is average and made with little love, got the Angus burger and it was a Pattie with some tasteless slaw in a cream sauce, one slice of tomatoe and some onion rings, no real taste or flavour to it. the fries it came with were also soft and not crunchy.. bae's quiche was a little soggy also, nice environment but the cafe game is definitely lacking compared to the whangarie gardens cafe.
Tony Ma
Neat little cafe, was hungry but not much to munch on apart from lots of pastry starchy food.

Good orange juice tho! Good matched with a garden walk.

Service: 3/5
Drink Quality: 4/5
Drink Quantity: 3/5
Environment: 4/5
Price per person: $5-$10

My partner went here for lunch and she had ordered the fish and chips, I had ordered the mezze platter. The fish was overcooked and the batter was very floury. The cost of the fish and chips was $19.50, which is very expensive and definitely a rip off as it was terrible.
The mezze platter was lackluster and badly plated. The parmesan bread twists were undercooked and completely mismatched for the selection - $19.00 for that abomination.
You are better off bring a picnic as that is the only place you can buy food from.

Not sure why this place has such a low rating as that is not what we experienced.
We visited the gardens to view the sculpture trail & it was a busy day in the park & cafe. The cafe had water bowls for dogs & there was a variety of spaces both inside & outdoors.
We both had coffee which was well made, and a glass of bubbles. For meals we had the fish & chips which was a decent portion. I think the fish was pre-frozen but it was nice enough & the chips had a nice seasoning. Also the mini frittata with salad which was full of veges & had a tasty plum chutney with it.
Service was friendly & quite efficient considering how busy they were

This place was almost like a fine dining experience, it was so good! Tried a meat dish (can't remember the name) and a piece of cheesecake. Melts in your mouth. Chef is really nice, he brings your meal to the table personally. Woman at the counter isnt so friendly though. Love the botanical gardens, good place to have lunch if you're stopping by.

Worst coffee me or my wife have had for a very long time. My wife took a sip and threw it away
Very expensive,
The service was not bad but all in all of this was a coffee shop in a less prime location it would be closed already
Shirley Browne
I am amazed whenever I come to this cafe on a Sunday on how bad the service is. The queue to be served can be outside the door. The reason for the slow queue service is because the person taking your order has to also take your purchase, eg cupcake out of the cabinet and put on a plate to give to you instead of another person doing this part of the service. If the person taking your order at the counter did just that, it would speed up the waiting time in the queue. You end up with your food order so long before you receive your drink order, that you have finished the food order.
The hot chocolate comes in a glass and has very little flavour and not worth buying. This time, I asked for a smoothie but was told that they weren't making them that day...............

Lovely cafe set in the gardens with a space for children to play outside. Food was nice, however it was $17 for smashed avocado & not very filling considering the price tag... the kids fish finger meal had only 3 fingers with chips & salad but came with a cute bubble wand necklace which kiddies loved :)

Not the best of the customer service . But food was amazing !
Tried the Thai green curry . Fair to say these guys do Thai green curry better than Thai restaurants 😂
Honestly best green curry ever . Salmon bagel was very nice too . If they had good customer service as well, then it would be a 10/10

I had the best experience at Miko cafe. The food and service was great. I had the chance to thank the chef for making the food for me. The coffee was lovely aswell. Overall Great environment and views. Sure would visit again.

Not a great eating experience. Stay clear of the signature Miko burger. It was tasteless and the consistency of the pattie was mushy runny. You have been warned.
Winnie Luo
Very decent cafe in the gardens!

The prices are cheap compared the other cafes and the serving sizes are generous. The food was tasty and came out very quickly. Great place to fuel up before or after a stroll in the gardens.

Wouldn't mind coming back and trying more dishes from their menu!
Degustation Dave
Breakfast was badly cooked partially raw egg burnt on bottom uncooked on top, cold sausages and greasy.
Good ingredients but badly cooked.
Very dissatisfied. More like a truck stop breakfast.
Waste of calories
Don't like the service of this place 🚫🚫🚫

Only resorted to this cafe cos we didn't have anything to eat before we went to the gardens. Ordered the chicken satay wrap and a cheese, bacon and egg pie (or something like that) from their cabinet. Asked for takeaways. Waited for ages. At least 30 mins all up. Went up to the counter to ask. And the guy was like all hesitant and all. Not really even putting in effort finding out what's with the hold up for a TAKEAWAY order that ONLY needed to be reheated. Just rude in general as well. No apology. They only get a 1.5 cos the lady that brought my order apologised for the wait.

When I finally got it, the chicken satay wrap tasted more like curry than satay 😒 and the pie was like ugly as compared to what it looked like in the cabinet.

This place is only busy cos of the botanical gardens and people have to go to this cafe cos there is no other options around there.

Never going back to this stupid cafe even if I was starving 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼❌❌❌

This is the worst cafe ever, I have to wait for 10 min for my kids fluffy ! Not to mention there is like a couple of customers infront of us , I would not recommend to anyone!

Came to this little cafe situated in the gardens as I was hungry before walking the dogs - I should have just picked up some gas station food instead on the way... Service is nice and the location is gorgeous but that's where the positives stop really. Let me explain the low rating in one sentence: $9 sausage roll with $5 side of fries the size of a woman's hand. I browsed the selection and while the food tastes ok, you simply cannot charge this much for a sausage roll, surely?! even in some of the most up market cafes around Auckland you would NEVER find a sausage roll for NINE DOLLARS. It was a need over a want for food, and the biggest let down was the taste - bland. Pack a lunch or breakfast if you're heading down to the gardens and save yourself the money💸😠

One of the best places to have meal and chat, hangout, date, etc. Eating in front of the great landscape of Auckland Botanic Garden is an awesome experience. Food, Crowd, and Service are decent.
FYI: Brunch menu is split – Breakfast type options not available after 12noon. If there is ‘no wait’ (for food from the kitchen) – this could mean a 25min wait.

2 adults and one small. 1.45pm Sunday afternoon. Drinks: 2 x small flat whites (average), one bottle of juice.

Disappointing visit.
Chicken salad $17.50 (ordered with knowledge that they had run out of chicken – bacon in place of chicken). Salad mix with deep fried bacon on top, no avocado, no form of cheese. Aside from the lettuce and cabbage, no more than the side salad served with the corn fritters. Never been so hungry after a meal.

Other adult – Corn fritters $18 – Fritters appeared to be partly deep fried and lacked any flavour (apart from oil), more deep fried bacon.

Chocolate fruit slice $4 – inhaled by master 7, thumbs up was the only feedback provided.

After a previous visit (when friends ate after a 50min wait - so new that there could potential delay). Espresso coffee and slice was delicious, after seeing food – looking forward to trying the menu.

Conclusion: Will visit again for the short black, and cake – elsewhere for a meal. If really hungry, would order from cabinet, not kitchen.

Have been here 3 times now once it was so busy couldn't be seated. First aside from the 15% holiday surcharge was very impressive . Eggs Benedict and the Kiwi Big breakfast are tasty and surprisingly filling food is very well presented meals arrived within 10 mins. 2nd time things were a little over cooked and service was slower I guess hard to get it perfect always. Coffee is good. Location is very nice. Well worth a try for breakfast.

Food looked amazing loved my eggs bene only disapointment was the kumara and potato hash it came on was hard and lumpy also had a strange flavour that didn't really go well with the bene sause

Service extremely slow! Lost our order. Had to wait 30mins, asked for it to be take away to make it easier for them. Found it was too hard for them. Food tasted very nice tho.

This is great spot to meet up with friends. There are plenty of tables to choose from and a wonderful outlook to the Gardens. It can get very busy though. I haven't eaten here for a while as the menu is not appealing (I am on a no grains/sugars diet). However I love the coffee - Piazza D'Oro. It is the only cafe where I enjoy a long black.

Great coffee. Service a bit slow.
Food and coffee is ok but the staff and service is always really slow. Quite expensive really as well, although it is a tourist attraction.

I have been going to Cafe Miko for Sunday breakfast since they opened. It started off great. Awesome food, service, coffee... but I'm sure the owner/chef has changed in the last year. The last 3 visits have been really bad. Poached eggs are mostly cooked through, no seasoning on the potatoes, 1 sml pce of toast to 2 eggs and the coffee was disappointing. What happened to the relish :( The worst of it was we had to ask for our table & chairs to be wiped down. He wiped the chair 1st then I had to stop him from wiping our table 2nd!! 1 positive... the staff were lovely. Friendly and service was great. 1 tip... when setting the table, do not place the water glasses upside down. The rim shouldn't touch the table unless on a paper coaster.
