Review The Paddock - Auckland Central

One of the food places within Elliot Stables. The menu isn't very large but they do have a selection of different English dishes like the beef Wellington. Like the other places in Elliot stables, you order and give them the table number so they know where to bring your food. The Beef Wellington was quite nice, crispy, thin pastry wrapped around a juicy steak. The Jus that came with it was also quite nice. There were also some roasted veges that came on the board. Quite a nice place for a hearty meal.

Being a vegetarian, I know my review won't matter much. But Still I will share my experience. I order Hallumi salad(the only vegeterain option for $14) On the menu it states dressed with Honey mustard and roasted veges which looked delecious. In reality, I got just 2 very small peices of Hallumi, and 4 small roasted pieces of pumpking hidden under mesculn leaves. Which was complete let down for the put up price. The paddok guys you could do better. Utterely disappointed. Won't recommend.

Honestly the worst plate of food we have ever ordered. We got the beef Sunday roast. The plate came out and looked like a gravy soup with meat in it. We think they use the gravy to almost hide the “roast vegetables” that are not roasted and hard. My pumpkin was past its used by date. As for the meat. It was like chewing on an old boot! I wouldn’t give it to my dog! Will never come back!!

Food was not good. Chicken was very hard to chew

The sunday roast is great for value. The lamb was very tender with generous portion of lamb and potato/veg. The gravy was a little bit runny and they gave plenty of it. Overall it was a delicious British meal.

Chicken Schnitzel was good. Service was quick but didn’t find many options though. The salad dressing at the side could have been better but overall a decent meal. 🍻

I had a chicken pot pie today For lunch the filling was like a a soup covered in one top of pastry which was burnt. The salad was only mesclun with a dressing. I was so dissatisfied at the expense . Sorry but very disappointed felt compelled to write a review. $12 !!! Crazy

Such a shame that everything was out of a packet from Bidvest. I had the chicken schnitzel and my partner had the shank. They could do so much better

Very disappointing experience because the order was taken wrong at first when I ordered roast beef but what came up actually was roast lamb and I was asked if it's okay to have lamb instead. The answer is NOPE. After that the roast beef was served quickly which seemed quite tasty at first sight. But,I mean, excuse me? It's #+$@*% RAW... Seriously, if I feed them with grass, they will chase each other in the farm;
No they can't because they were bleeding...
I ended up having some not-so-warm veggies and left. That's a real 'special roast' menu. Thx.

Beef Wellington! meat cooked well and has a lot of flavour, what you would expect of beef Wellington. third time eating here and it the consistency is spot on every time.

Big serving! Great Value!
I was deciding whether to get the Beef Wellington or the Chicken Schnitzel (because of the fries) - The staff was kind and said that he can replace the baked veggies with fries & served it with mushroom sauce on the side.

Their other food items are nice too! Highly recommended
Large serving for a good value. Had the Chicken schnitzel with a side salad and fries, totally didn’t expect the size of it, a lot bigger than a normal serving! Definitely worth your $!

The chicken schnitzel here actually tasted pretty good - a decent piece of breast chicken with a good spicy coating and a good complement of sides. Not really sure how much more creative a British establishment can be in Elliot Stables, but they're trying!

Service was extremely rubbish. Ordered the rump steak, it took about half an hour went back and followed up with it, they said it'll be two minutes. Went back couple minutes later and they said it'll take a bit longer, so just asked for take away. When I got my meal, it was missing the mushroom sauce. So I went back and asked for it and the guy behind the counter said "oh f***k" I was getting really frustrated so I asked for a half refund at least and he went to the back and started screaming. I got a full refund in the end but was not worth the experience. I wouldn't recommend it and definitely not going back there again.

Beef Wellington was absolutely amazing. Loved the pastry. We ordered it in medium rare and it came out perfectly. Vegetables also tasted quite nice. Got a free strawberry cheesecake with the meal. Highly recommended.

I'm English, and this is, without doubt, the worst Sunday roast I've ever eaten.

The beef was like chewing on the door mats on the way in.

The veggies were cold on all the three plates of the people eating.

The roast potatoes were OK and even the frozen aunt bessie Yorkshire puddings were OK. But when you're promoting yourself as somewhere that boasts a British roast and you can't even make Yorkshire puddings, alarm bells must ring.

Serving a Sunday roast on a breadboard /cheeseboard is also not OK. It is unhygienic as explained by the below article

https://i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/food-wine/food-news/100483574/british-restaurant-fined-94000-for-serving-food-on-wooden-boards

I told the waitress TWICE that I wasn't happy with the food and the chef once. Neither offered any alternative or refund for my meal.

You may see that this is my first review on zomato. Only because I use alternative websites for reviews and this was the only platform the paddock was on.

I don't like going to Elliot Stables cause the prices for somw of the food there are ridiculous for what they give, but The Paddocks was pretty good. I got the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce for 23dollars, the sauce was very nice and seasoned well. Very packed! but... abit expensive but ehh what you expect. Unfortunately, they had added balsamic vinegar glaze on the food, to me that means the chef isnt confident, and just kinda makes the dish taste abit weird. but overall it was good.

Wasn’t intending on dining in at The Paddock but bumped into some friends outside Elliot Stables who were looking for some lunch.

I love a good old Sunday Roast, not being English myself, the idea of a hearty meat and vegetable has always been attractive in my mind.

16$ lamb roast was honestly disappointing. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy and stale, only two bite sized potatoes and there was barely any lamb.

The sauce was okay, a bit too watery for my liking and the lamb texture was interesting enough to not make my meal a total let down.

Not too impressed in all honesty and certainly won’t be back any time soon.

Showstopper: Nothing

Overall Grade: C

Great little spot in Elliot Stables specialising in British food - think all the usual favourites such as beef Wellington & pork loin.
Service was really friendly - happy to talk through the menu. Kitchen was open which is always great to see when eating out.
Great range of beer & wine including Hallertau on tap.
We tried the pork loin & T-bone steak. Both were fresh & well cooked with potatoes & sauces that balanced the dish well. Portion sizes were generous for the price.
Looking forward to trying more of the menu - especially the beef Wellington & crumbed chicken.

I have been having my eye on the beef wellington since they opened and finally went in to try it.

I don't believe anyone is doing this in Auckland so I was curious to see if it could be pulled off.
The steak inside was super tender and a perfect medium. The pastry was perfectly crisp and the mushroom duxelle and spinach with bernaise sauce worked so well together.
He had the tbone steak with kumara mash which was lovely. The chimichurri was very nice too.

I would recommend trying the beef wellington!

The worst beef Wellington I have ever had. Raw (not rare - off the butcher’s shelf raw) beef encased in soggy pastry with Luke warm Veges. Nice ambience, if a little noisy. I would try other restaurants in Elliott Stables, but not The Paddock.

Friendly and quick service, unfortunately the meal did not live up to expectations. However this was a generous meal as it was a large serving for $16 but I found it a little blend.

Was invited for a dinner here to try out their Beef Wellington and Bangers & Mash! Service was spot on, friendly and lovely people! Was amazed by the presentation of their dishes. The Beef Wellington is basically sirloin and spinach wrapped in a lovely flaky and crispy pastry. Included in that dish were some veges, and the Bearnaise sauce, which I absolutely loved. The beef was cooked medium rare, and oh my days, it was quite tender as well! The second dish that was served to me was the Bangers & Mash! This included two sausages with mashed potatoes in onion jus (sauce) and peas. A true and authentic British dish, I must say. I loved every bit of the food. Super satisfied with this dining experience, and hope to come again soon!Eggster Eats

I ordered an Irish stew and a cider. Giving the place a 2 as a benefit of the doubt because it is new. 18 dollars was pretty steep for what I received. The stew was not good and lacked flavour. I returned after receiving my meal and asked for salt and pepper and was told to ask another restaurant for some as they did not have any. What restaurant can not provide salt and pepper? The bread provided with the stew had no butter, which would have been ok if the stew had some flavour. The meat in the stew was ok quality wise but lacked flavour along with the broth and mash. Since there are plenty of other decent choices at the location I probably would not return here.
