Review Jomaru Korean Restaurant - Auckland Central

never been a korean food person but their sizzling spicy pork belly actually quite surprised me, and I like it! service was nice, dish serve time considered quite fast too. affordable price, not too expensive, and pretty big portion for me. Probably will be one of the Korean food restaurant that I would recommend to people in Auckland.

PORK BACK BONE STEW with Pork and rice - Highlight dish here. It is a Korean dish which has a dense miso-like soup base, with pork back bone and bean sprout served within. Perfect for a cold day to warm up the body. Always thought it was an empty shop from the outside, but once we walked downstairs to the shop, it was Full and with alot of customers constantly coming in. The staff were busy and almost running around, but still served us kindly and with a smile. They were very professional and it was very much noticeable compared to other places. Will be back again!

A nice Korean food option in the city. It’s very spacious so you can just walk in and find a seat most of the time and the atmosphere is more casual. The service is pretty fast. The taste is decent and it’s handy to get to when I have a craving. Not the best tasting ever but it’s good. They could be a bit more generous with the side dishes ^^

The food is good and the portion size is decent for the price. I got gamjatang (pork bone soup) which was up to my expectation :) all my friends loved what they got <3. Nice hidden Korean restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and staff are pretty friendly. However dont get mixed up with the menus. Henderson and CBD menus are different and seems like Henderson menu is cheaper

Taste: 8.4/10 Probably one of the best korean restaurants in cbd. Pork bone soup is great and so is basically everything else on the menu. Service is nice and fast so you don’t have to wait long for your food. Cute decor interior that fits a cafe more but still clean and tidy. Price seems to have gone up a bit but still a pretty solid price for the quality of food.

Tasty Korean food, got the spicy beef stew that came with side dishes (medium). Generous size for 2 people. Would give a 5 if I didn't have trouble breathing cause of how hot and poorly ventilated it was in the restaurant 😂😂😂

Very yummy Korean food n very authentic. Amazing customer service but price is little high for my standard or I will give a 5 star here. Great atmosphere here n bonus is that it has AC. So no need to worry when it’s summer as here it’s still cool. Love it. So green vibe too. Come n enjoy it if u like Korean or first time try out.

Pretty decent. More made for a casual, quick Korean meal than one we'd bring our Korean mum to, if that makes sense. Get a feeling this is more geared to be a student hang out and eat spot, but still good if wanted a dish with all the banchan 반찬.

My favourite Korean restaurant in the city. Stir fry spicy beef and squid is the best! But if you are keen for spicier taste, you need to ask for chilli flakes.

We we’re looking a korean restaurant on the weekend that was open as early as 16:00 along the high street/Lorne Street and we passed Jomaru so we decided to dine in this place. I love the place it reminds me of a restaurant in insadong (underground type) but it will be perfect if they will sell rice wine as well. Food are good but it taste a bit odd or probably they put a bit much of MSG (I’m not an MSG person so that probably why it taste odd to me). However, the service was great. Tidy place.

This restaurant started really good and it’s still good, but side dish only tiny amount and price gone up.

Came for lunch a couple times during the week and love the soups they have on offer. The pork back bone stew is the best. The army stew with ramen is just as good.

Great dinner experience with Jomaru. Kimchi soup was nice, fast service and excellent staff.

Enjoyed coming along to this place. It's downstairs, in case you're struggling to find it. Good food and good portions, but just a tad pricey. I ordered the spicy pork belly for $17. It's not very spicy, in case you're wondering, but pretty tasty so I'd recommend it and if you want more spice you should probably ask. The staff were lovely and there's quite a lot of seating down here as well. Overall, good place to eat but not when you're on a tight budget!

Good taste Korean cuisine. It's only good hotpot dishes, and also many kinds of side dishes.

Nice hidden Korean restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and staff are pretty friendly. The food is good and the portion size is decent for the price. However beside the gamjatang (pork bone soup), nothing else was a standout compare to the other Korean places.

Love my bimbambap! 😊

Bit pricey for the portion size.

The staff got my order wrong. But didn’t overcharge, just wasn’t what I wanted.

I can see why the reviews aren’t very high. It’s due to the portion sizes. The food does taste good.

Service: 3/5
Presentation: 3.5/5
Food Quality: 4.5/5
Food Quantity: 3/5
Price per person: $20-$30

Used to come here frequently for lunch and have been supporting them since the first day they opened. However, disappointingly, I have also seen how they have gone downhill.

It used to be a place where it provides good value meals with good portion. This past 1 year, it has started to cut portions and now increased its price significantly. How can you charge nearly $19 for a hot plate squid and beef with rice?

Their seafood noodle soup only has 1 mussel and miserable strips of squid in it with lots of cabbage and that costs $18. Noodle portion has shrunk a lot as well.

Unfortunately this will be my last time here, if they don’t improve their portion to claim back their “value for money” label.

Good place for a lunch catch up, food is reasonably priced and have decent serving sizes although lacking a little flavor. Service is super fast and friendly. Ambience is inviting and relaxed. Had the spicy pork belly on rice ($16), wasn’t spicy at all but still delicious. Wouldn’t be my first choice but not the worse either.

nice food. I can't say it's fancy, but decent enough. lovely staff. just expecting a better side dishes if possible, something like kimchi maybe?😊
Renie
I had the raw tuna on rice and was disappointed. It was just rice with the packaged salad on top and frozen raw tuna with nothing else. It may be because I didn't get their signature dish which is the Pork Bone Soup but I wouldn't go back. The seating was good though with lots of space. The dish my friend got seemed better.

We wanted korean food and haven’t been to town in ages, stumbled upon this restaurant and the menu looked good. We were seated quickly and water was provided to the table by a friendly waitress. We ordered the hot stone bibimbap and spicy chicken. The food arrived quickly, however the flavours were very bland for korean food. The spicy chicken and sauce for the bibimbap tasted really sweet, not kick to it.

They refilled our side dishes which was nice.

Friendly service.

One of the best pork bone soup restaurant in New Zealand! Must try

I love their HotStone Bibimbap. I always order that and obviously along with amazing dishes they have. Their menu is affordably priced and also the place is conveniently located.

I've had Sizzling Spicy Pork Belly and also another time had Spicy Pork Belly and Kimchi. It was all really nice and tasty plus side dishes were quite nice as well.
Reasonable price. Highly Recommended.

Craving for korean food and went to city to find some restaurant here in lorne street. The entrance is quite hidden but when you get in the restaurant is quite big and cozy. I’m ordering sweet pork belly, and kimchi pork soup. Great food.

Food 4/5
Ambience 3.5/5
Service 4/5

Underground restaurant but very cosy and homey feel.Friendly staff. Food was satisfying and tasty especially on a cold day. Had 4 side dishes that accompanied the meal. Would have loved if there was more of it. There were 5 meals we ordered but only got 3 lot of side. I was a bit embarrassed to ask for more but luckily my friend asked.Staff was accommodating with the request.

Good value for money, delicious food! Highly recommend the sticky flour chicken and rice 😋 beautiful interior and absolutely clean and spotless. One of our favourite new Korean spots!

Ordered a bunch for lunch (hey that rhymed).
Sizzling chicken was under flavoured. Bland. 3/5
The spicy beef soup was decent but not amazing. 4/5
Steamed eggs were pretty good 4.5/5

Got a bibimbap, portion was small. Eat there, you get the sides, takeaway you get no sides and a small portion of bibimbap with probably a teaspoon of mince and lots of rice. Slightly too expensive for that price.

Loved the relaxed, clean atmosphere of this place, not intense and hectic like some other Korean restaurants.

I ordered one of my favourite dishes, Marinated Beef with Vegetable Stew (뚝배기 불고기). The portion size was very generous, with the clay pot being rather large. The flavours were absolutely perfect and hearty, although some of the beef pieces were not as soft and tender to chew. They offered free refillable side dishes which was also very nice.

Service was friendly and efficient, would definitely come back here next time I’m craving Korean food in CBD.

The thing that stood out for me is the decor of the place. Staff service was poor, we seated ourselves and had to grab our own menus. Food took awhile to be served. We ordered the Spicy Tofu Stew and Kimchi stew. They came with rice and some side dishes. The rice was hard and side dishes and stew were bland.

Love the decorations, it’s an underground restaurant but they have made it looked so fresh. Clean and comfortable, staff were friendly, very good service. Greeted as soon as I walked downstairs, water given as soon as I sat down, they gave paper cups for water.. Food didn’t wowed me thou, it was average but it was nicely presented and you get quite a big portion, I ordered the Fish Roe Soup for $16. There wasn’t many people when I ordered and it took approx 10mins for the food to arrive.

Cute little restaurant on Lorn Street.
They have a slightly different menu to all the other Korean restaurants in CBD.

They do a mix of beef and squid sizzling plate and they do also offer some dishes with intestines for those with a more adventurous palate.

I enjoy the food and customer service here.

The quality of the side dishes (반찬) were very good, and you get a variety which is great value considering the price of the dishes on the menu are not expensive. Ordered their signature pork bone soup which is a warm, hearty soup dish that is eaten with rice. It's great and really fills you up. The taste lacked a bit of depth compared to my usual restaurant but it was still great quality.

One of the staff must have been new as we had to ask her for sets of cutlery after our meals have been served and also for side plates and somewhere to put the bones in but nonetheless service was efficient once requested. The place gets busy during dinner

Came in for an early lunch after our breakfast date this morning, Ordered the hot stone bibimbap, the spicy soft tofu stew and the pork belly with rice. The bibimbap tasted average. There wasn't a range of side dishes (no spicy pancake :( ). Flavour of the spicy tofu stew was good . It had pieces of shrimp inside and the tofu was soft. Overall, food was average but it was a great environment to chill out with friends for lunch.

I really find it amazing how yummy their food is, yet does not break your pockets. The customer service is amazing too, always with a smile on their faces and will inform you about your orders (e.g. will take 15 minutes or so). The place is clean, just a little too warm. Food presentation is nice. Good food. Will definitely come back here next time.

Came here twice in 1 day for lunch and dinner

Value: 4/5
food that won’t break the bank. generally the same prices as you would see in a normal korean resturant. Portion wise I did find these ones a little bit smaller.

Venue: 5/5
you walk down 2 flights of stairs to get to the resturant. Away from the busy loud street, the ambience created here is amazing. White interior to bring in the light and pot plants for that pop of colour. Plenty of space for large groups and small groups. Very clean. Place is beautiful - instagram worthy

Service: 5/5
Welcomes as soon as we walked down the stairs, we could choose where we sat, menus came over straight away with water. Waitress gave a few mins to check the menu and then promptly came over to take our order. Food came out fairly quickly too. The waitresses were very friendly and welcoming.

Food: 3/5
Good food, filling and tasty. All the ingredients taste light and fresh, very delicious.Everything we order Presentation of food is instagram worthy.

The best kimchi fried rice I have had (10/10, $15), better than Kimchi Projects which is nearly double the price. They have large portions and includes side dishes. The spicy fish roe soup was amazing too (9/10,$16), not too spicy and packed with lots of fish roe and tofu. Will definitely come back here for Korean food! This place has replaced Neighbours on Lorne Street.

I had a good time here at jomaru. The restaurant had a really nice clean ambience and the staff took our orders straight away. I ordered a bibimbap and my only complaint was the portion size for a 15 dollar meal. My friend ordered a bulgogi beef stew but for some reason she didn't get any side dishes like I had? I don't know if it was intentional or not but I could see myself coming back to Jomaru.

Avoid, Not recommend at all.
I don't usually write review on food since I'm careless. I write this review to express how bad services and food which I have not experienced in CBD of Auckland.
Staff have lack of understanding when ordering food, They don't know what BYO means.
4 men including me had big sized Gamjatang and we did not finished even half of the pot.
It is understandable why they have so low rating hare even though they are not food court.

I do not like korean food much, but i visited here with my children.Pork bone soup which i ordered without expectation tasted delicious even though it was neat and clean, the texture was very good because it was boiled well and softly.I give 5stars because the children are so tasty and eat well. The beautifully decorated photo zone also provided a sense of master.

Jomaru had one branch in West Auckland, and this branch recently opened in town. I was surprised when I first went in because of its ambience, I didn't expect such a luxurious interior for a casual Korean restaurant. We got the Pork Bone Soup and Sizzling Spicy Pork Belly with Vegetables. The soup tasted too watery, and the pork belly was too sweet I thought I was eating dessert. The staff were kind and they provided nice service, but quite disappointed with their food :(

So i ordered kimchi fried rice asked for a vegetarian on they even checked if i want egg on it. When i got the food i turns out there was mince in it 😞 i dont know if they knew what vegetarian means. Portion size was also small. Some places would have more for that price.

Food wasn’t good at all . Very disappointing . And I don’t know it was chef or kitchen staff . Kept hearing that calling his coworker as “ya” “ ya” which is very rude . That made me and my gf feel so uncomfortable while having dinner there . Come on man thats not how u treat your coworker learn some basic manners

Possibly one of the most disappointing Korean restaurant I've been to this year. Side dishes were very poor especially Korean pancake slices they were very dry and very flour like it was hard for me to swallow. The main soup dish (Gamjatang $50 -Not cheap) which they are known for was below average. I have to say I loved their interior design and the service but sadly that's all I was impressed about.

You’re wasting your time here. Portion size is minimal, sides sizes are microscopic. There is better and cheaper on both ends of the street. It’s best to avoid this place, unless you aren’t looking to eat much.

Clean and bright place to enjoy authentic Korean cuisine.
Fresh ingredients in tasty food at a reasonable price, famous Korean side dish can be refilled, there is also a wall for taking gorgeous photos.

Nive ambience handy location in cbd area okay average Korean food if you want some Korean food just not sure why they had named their restaurant as jomaru kamjatang when they are so not specialized in it..

Very modern, welcoming and comforting interior, with good customer service. Food was delicious and the proportion of the dishes were a decent amount, had an overall great experience.

Ok food. Portion sizes do not reflect prices in comparison with other korean restaurants. The decor is nice though but we don't go to these places for the decor....
