Review Bukhara Indian Grill - Auckland Central

. (22/05/2015) Great location and easily accessible. Quick and courteous service. Nice ambiance and good value. Have been eating some of the unique and delicious curries / breads not available anywhere else. Really big parking area. Best thing is that it is always easy to get booking even during the peak hours due to its big size. Good place for special occasions and groups.

We had good time for dinner. Ordered chill paneer for entree it wasn't the best I have tasted so far however Nihaari chicken was in chef's special n it was mouth watering taste and very authentic. Recommended if you are looking for authentic indian taste

We went for lunch, on a Saturday. We are vegetarian and loved the flavours in the Punjabi Chole and the Dal Bukhara. The owner made a special, non-spicy paneer for our four- year-old. Everyone was very sweet and accommodating. We were stuffed and happy, when we left! Yummmmmm.

Worst place

I went to this place after quiz night from Blacksalt bar. A friend suggested this place to us. There were four of us plus 3 other r Muslims which made 7 of us together. The floor was so dirty. They need to clean their carpet. We ordered our food form the waitress who seemed to be the wife of the owner.. food came after 30 minutes. It was so sweet like they put too much sugar in. The Naan was so tasteless and not well cooked. I was not pleased with this place..my friend was ashamed wirh the service we received. They gave us 5 small prawns for $15 dollars which were so cold.the portions were rather small. I will never suggest this place to anyone. The service is poor and the food is the worst. 8f you still like your Indian food, never set your foot here.

Had a quick meal here, daal was too hot to feel the taste of anything in it, did not taste too fresh. I really appreciate the presentation though. Naan were super soft and nice. The interior and furniture was a little bit of off-putting. It's the kind of place to visit if you are nearby, would not visit specially.

**do not go here, save your money**

Wanted to like this place as it was a nice looking restaurant and the people serving seemed nice. However, we ordered 3 malai kofta (a dinner main), there was no indication on the menu that this was supposed to be a sweet dish. It was so sweet it was inedible it tasted like it was made out of sugar, we told the server this and ordered a second main, which unfortunately was not great and very salty. No one asked how our second main was, and no discount offered despite all 3 of us being not able to eat the first main. Very disappointed not only with the food but the lack of customer service. Will not be going back.

Indian restaurants are genrally not my first choice but had a lunch with work mates (I wanted to go black salt but someone really endorsed this place). This restaurant has a $10 lunch special so ordered the lamb korma.

Portion was a little small but not too dramatically. BUT this was probably the best korma I've had to date. Definatley would come back here, asked the waiter and he says the dinner price is $16 and the portion is much larger so keen to try that.

Meat was ok but it was the sauce that made the dish.

The waiter was pretty friendly, place wasn't packed (about 7 others dining plus five of us)

Food took a about 15minutes to come out.

Would I say it was worth it?
Yes

The lunch deal here is very good ! For $10 you get Nan, curry and rice. I ordered Chicken tikka masala. The curry was outstanding! Enjoyed the texture, the thickness and the proper spice level and this is how curries are meant to be. The Nan was average, could have been cooked properly. But overall this curry made my day ! Thank you team !

We had a Christmas dinner from work at Bukhara Indian grill on 23/12/2016 . The customer service was not up to the mark as it should be with a restaurant. Talking about food , it was okay okay . We ordered six salted lassis , hopefully got them on time but it was hard for all of us to finish it off after having a sip as it wasn't salted or rather say sweet lassi . It was a combination of both which we never asked for . When we asked them to take it back , they blame on us saying that you guys have drunk whiskey and that's why u can taste it different . The group of 6 of us never had a alcohol consumption in our life time and the owner blames us instead of accepting that it was their fault . We didn't ask them for any drinks in returns of those 6 lassis even though the owner didn't respect the constructive feedback of the customer . I would never recommend anyone to go and have food there as everyone needs respect prior to anything else ... enjoy the Christmas and happy new year ....

We visited Bukhara last night for dinner along with friends and family. I must say right from the complementary onion bhajji (special edition), the food was just awesome. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The high-light of the evening was Daal Bukhara. The staff was also helping on advising when we over-ordered something. I was bit nervous in the beginning when realised that its not a direct franchise of the Bukhara where I usually ate in India, but Bukhara Auckland food was equally great. All the entrée and mains were just outstanding, accompanied with fresh Naans (my experience has always been otherwise with big-names especially with Naans). The Bukhara Kulfi completed the experience with right sweetness. Would surely love to visit again.

Bukhara is a recent addition to the competitive North Indian restaurant scene, which is slowly building its name.

Bukhara is located at very busy area on Great North Rd; this makes parking a challenge, as the public carpark behind the restaurant fills up quickly.

Once inside, you'll notice the decor of the restaurant is gorgeous. Traditional Indian lamp shades combined with a pleasant orange colour scheme result in a very comforting, yet invigorating ambiance.

Complimentary onion bhaji was provided, which was both a surprise and a big step up from the complimentary microwaved popadoms which other Indian restaurants are known to provide.

I ordered a butter chicken with butter naan. My fiance had a few questions about the menu which the waiter wasn't very confident in answering without checking with the chef. This can be forgiven as he treated us well the rest of the night.

Our food arrived, and my butter chicken was unlike any butter chicken I've had at other restaurants; there was a strong taste of cashew which made it taste more like a spicy Chicken Korma. I didn't mind this, however it was clear that a lot of cream was used in a curry. I'm not a fan of this method and it distills the punch of the spices and isnt healthy.

My fiance wasn't thrilled with her Paneer, but it I didn't taste any so it's not fair for me to comment.

The prices of Bukhara are very reasonable for both food and drink. This fact alone could drive us to return.

Bukhara is far from the best Indian restaurants in Auckland, but it's still a nice restaurant to sit down in and provides very good value for money.

Absolutely delicious!! We got the Butter Chicken and Lamb Briyani! SO flavoursome - tastes like homemade, authentic Indian -- something an aunty or mama would make for a family! The service was also lovely - kind and accomodating. Decor is beautiful, the accompanying music is lovely. Overall: 5/5!!!

Worst food ever.. over priced for the quantity provided.. fried rice tastes like rice soaked in oil and soya sauce.. last time ever to this restaurant
Never ever will i suggest this place to anyone🙄🙏🏽..

Ordered delivery, strangest tasting vindaloo i have ever had really sweet tasting, not good. The delivery driver did not want to walk down my short driveway so called me to come and get it from the car.

A good range of food, excellent service and great ambience. Wait staff was friendly and their timing between entrees and mains was perfect- definitely recommend and will go here again

On Friday we were looking to go at Indian restaurant, and one of my friend have refereed at at this restaurant honestly i have never heard about this restaurant at that day it was really very busy. however Service was outstanding and well managed with excellent food, which really mad my day... i will be coming to this awesome place again and again and surly recommend to everyone.
Hello Rosie
For a Sunday takeaway, Bukhara hit the spot. Navigating the website was easy and delivery was prompt.

I ordered Peshawari Korma, Mango Lassi, Garlic Naan and Papadoms. The korma was thick and creamy with an abundance of texture. The lamb was definitely the stand out ingredient of this dish, tender and well flavoured. My mango lassi was great, although the papadums had a slightly intense flavour for my preference but in saying that they were fresh and crunchy. Last was the garlic naan which was a little thick and doughy in places with a few well sized pieces of slightly raw garlic throughout which was a little unpleasant.

Overall Bukhara was an enjoyable but not entirely memorable experience.

Great ambience and a restaurant looked after very well by the owner, Mr.Ashish Khetan, a foodie himself. Service is prompt and efficient. The USP of this place is definitely the taste and the way they get their perfect balance of flavours. Chilli paneer and Paneer bukhara are my personal favourites. Its amazing to eat authentic Indian food with the right amount of spice, just the way its made back home in your favourite restaurants in India. Bukhara does exactly that and it gets tough to believe that you could actually be thousands of miles away from home. What sets this restaurant apart is that Bukhara gets it perfectly right, not just close but exactly right. Hats off to Bukhara, well done and impressive.

Service is pretty average.
I ordered a malai kofta, which was ok not the best I have had.
The kofta had absolutely no texture to them and a sweetness that I'm not keen on.
Looks clean out the front and only had one other customer eating in. The garlic Naan was ok again not the best. So yeah very average.

I have eaten at Bukhara a few times before and it is usually pretty good as far as Indian restaurants go, considering there are quite a few scattered around the city.

On Xmas eve my family and I ordered from the restaurant and I decided to go with the butter chicken (Indian style) as the last time we were there the owner was raving about it.

I ordered the curry medium and unfortunately they had actually made it mild, not spicy at all. I understand this could have been because butter chicken generally isn't spicy and also because the dish is rather sweet but at the same time they did ask me what heat level I would like so one would assume they would deliver on this request. The rest of the family ordered their curry hot but they were also faced with the same problem I had. Usually they are quite good with this but maybe they were just having an off night. The only thing that annoys me with restaurants who are able to prepare 'spicy' dishes is that a lot of the time when you ask for something to be 'hot' the restaurant underestimates your tolerance for spice and will not prepare the dish the way you have asked. Sometimes I have found you have to be specific to get it across e.g Indian hot or Thai hot etc.

Generally this place does a fairly decent curry at reasonable prices and the service is always great and staff are friendly. Would recommend as one of the better Indian restaurants in Auckland.

Service was perfect, food was perfect, huge portions. Loved every bit of it. Best curry I have ever had. Really good value for money. We will be back :)

Not the most famous places out there in Auckland.
We friends decided to have a quick lunch out there.
Simple and nice place to have a meal and very decently priced too.
Staff members are very welcoming with the owners proactively refilling water and the basic necessities. Good freshly cooked food. Surprisingly I would rate them just over Raviz or Masala!

fantastical experience we had at Bukhara. Dinner menu had great choices and the the service is fantastic. The food prepared at this premises is not like the normal Indian food we are used to in NZ., but a flair of richness and difference. I highly recommend everybody to have this experience and you will always go back for seconds.

This was our first time trying Bukhara and we were really impressed. The food was delivered in the time that we were given and the driver was very friendly. The food was flavorsome and we really enjoyed it, we will be going back :)

My wife and i took our good friends to this restaurant tonight, we ordered 4 different dishes and each one was shared around, Absolutely delicious and authentic, I enquired about the cooking style and was told they only cook on Charcoal not Gas, amazing difference, my friends wife is an incredible chef and she remarked of the food being the best Indian dishes she had tasted in NZ!. Prices were fine and fair for food & drinks, Great to see an 'A' rating sign and the ambience of the room was of a high standard, glad to hear our friends from St Heliers bemoan they dont have an Indian restaurant of this standard!!. Owner and staff very friendly and professional, great to see in good ol New Lynn!!

Nice indian run by good people. Great that you deliver and have many vege options. Have not eaten in but will try soon as when I've picked up meals place looks good

Bukhara is a great spot for a curry in New Lynn. Servings are very generous, curries tasty and well spiced. The poppadoms to start were great as well. It's nice not having to drive into the city for a decent curry. Have been back twice now and both times were well worth it.

We came in for lunch on a Sunday as we were walking past and saw that the place was quiet and looked suitable for us since we had our 10 month old baby with us. The staff were very friendly and invited us in and brought us a high chair. We ordered from the $10 lunch special menu, rogan josh and chicken korma with naan and rice. The rogan josh was rather spicy which we liked and both curries had very fragrant and delicious spices. The only complaint was the lack of meat (or veges/potato) as the sauce was so tasty. Not sure why I haven't seen this place busier as it's definitely much tastier than some of the other eateries in New Lynn. And has great ambiance and service too.

My choice for indian dine-in for New Lynn area. Service is quite polite and with a smile. Love the fish dishes and would definitely recommend people try that once.

takeaway service can be a bit slow sometimes and on one rare occasion the food didnt meet the standards that i am used to having been served there but was fixed the next time i ordered the same dish.

I am so glad I tried this out, finally! The service was attentive, polite and pleasant. The food transported me back to Delhi as it was pretty much the authentic Indian taste. The waiter even tweaked my Dal Bukhara to make it more Delhi-style. The platters leave a little more quantity to be desired for the price but the mains are filling and we had a doggy bag to take home as well. At $33 each, 3 of us had a vegetarian platter, two vegetarian mains, one chicken main, three drinks, one entree and a basket of bread. The ambiance just added to all the delicious goodness.

We had dinner at Bukhara Indian Grill.

Pros: Service is attentive.

Cons: We weren't entirely happy with the flavors and the portion of the Tandoori platter.Platter is $ 20 consists of 4 small lamb gilafi seekh, 3 nawabi chicken tikka and 2 afgani chicken.Another Indian restaurant we have been to offers much more for the same price and flavors are richer too.
For mains, we had lamb peshawari korma where lamb was very tender. We also had dal bukhara where we asked for mild but it was so spicy to be mild so we were offered a yoghurt like side to help with spiciness.

We think Bukhara should review their flavors and revise the portion of the platter .The restaurant has a great location , if they combine this with great flavors, it will do very well in our opinion.

I have visited Bukhara a few times. Each time we have been we have experienced amazing customer service and delicious food. Best Indian cuisine in New Lynn! Would recommend the Bukhara chicken, lovely flavours. Will be sure to visit again

I have been to this place 4-5 times before and since the food quality n service was always gud I suggested it to two of my friends n was der today with them at around 1pm for lunch special.
But as soon v wer seated v heard a high pitch voice of chef in kitchen scolding someone(May b the front guy but not sure)
It was really unpleasant n shameful for chef n embarrassing for customer.. Had witnessed same once on my prior visit but it was not so harsh but today was height.
My self being an Indian chef I understand various challenges he has to face but that doesn't mean one should loose self control..
I request management to look into matter ASAP so u maintain ur reputation in market.
Thanks

Prices here are awesome, friendly dine in option. We were assured by the chef which we had previously met by chance that he uses no cream, so a healthy option too. Defo recommended Indian for the new lynn area!
Kaushikc_32
I would not recommend this restaurant for dinner. The service was pathetic only one waitress was serving everyone. The manager came and took our order he had no idea if the dish we ordered was available or not . They also forgot about a dish completely. He served it to us after we finished eating( He didn't charge for it though). Overall the food was decent a bit overpriced and a bit on the sweeter side .

First visit, referred by a friend. Nice indoor and great location. Parking at back. We ordered Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer and a takeaway of Chicken Tikka Masala. Quite liked the food here. Well worthy of a visit.

Note: We had ordered the $12.50 lunch special.

Been here many times ..good service , friendly staff ..food if you dine there is good but somehow takeaway is not great ..disappointed couple of times
Woollen03
To start with, ambience is ok, not an upmarket feeling, but is clean.

For entree we ordered lamb seekh kebab and pomfret fish. Both were disappointing. Seekh kebab had the smell of lamb and the serving size was small. Each kebab was a size of approx the little finger. Fish was bland, the reason was it wasn't marinated well and was straight on the pan from freezer.

For mains we ordered Indian butter chicken, peshawari chicken and chicken bukhara . Bukhara was not that great, however peshawari and butter chicken was very good. A must try in this restaurant.

Overall, their service was good with a smiling staff.
I have dined in many Indian Auckland restaurants and Bukhara is among the very best. I have dined in a number of times now and tried many different dishes and can honestly say I haven't had anything I didn't like.

The service is also extremely friendly and helpful.

This is now our first choice Indian in Auckland. I sincerely hope they continue to increase patronage. Go soon!

The food is simple amazing.. Sometimes the dine in service take quite long but when the food arrive you understand why, is also easy to order by internet.. Is my favourite indian restaurant

Amazing outlet for indian cuisines specially in new lynn.Quality of every indian curry is mind blowing.i was looking for the same tasty spicy food like india but finally found a one for this.Excellent experience.

Been here several times. It's now my favourite Indian restaurant. Staff are friendly and responsive, food is consistently good. Only negative is that it lacks a bit of atmosphere. But if it's Indian you are after, can't recommend highly enough. They also do a kids-size butter chicken which is excellent value. Recommend the grilled prawn entree; comes with a very tasty coriander dressing - yum!
Zoupitup
been a few times including for takeaways. the red meat tandoori items are divine - gilafi and barrah kebabs are a must have. nutty creamy rich flavourful curries and good rice dishes as well as bread selection.

Why have I not tried this before? The family and I had an excellent lunch today at Bukhara. The food was made fresh, from scratch, unlike many other Indian restaurants. For this reason you wait a little longer for your food to be served BUT it is worth it. The Rogan josh was spicy(ordered hot), it's gravy full of flavour and the pieces if lamb were so tender. The kids loved their butter chicken, served with naan and rice.

The service was worthy of 5 rating- the owner Ashish had no issue dealing with a food intolerance that I have, replacing a Naan for a much larger serving of curry at no extra cost. He was so proud of his cooking team that he invited us to watch them cook in the kitchen area. It is great to see an owner with so much passion for his food and his business. Worth a mention that Bukhara do not add any cream to their dishes- the owner advised that other restaurants do this and it's not the authentic way of making the dishes.

The photos I took do not do justice to the food- I had intended to take photos at the outset but got a little carried away with the eating mmm. Did I mention that the lunch special was only $10 a head! I would certainly recommend this place.

I was looking around for some delicious food and I was not disappointed with Bukhara. We had great service, it is a pleasant atmosphere and the food is great! I have never tried Indian food that I liked more. The vegetarian platter as entree between two people is certainly something I would recommend!
Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The best Indian food - extensive menu with dishes that we have not tried nor seen before on the other Indain restaurants. Flavour packed dishes with a bonus - little to no cream and sugar. If your not an Indian food lover the grill dishes are divine and for you. Service was great and the ambiance not too bad. If you love Indian, this is a MUST try. Can't wait to go back - soon.

This place is recommended. Attentive staff. Pleasant atmosphere. Delicious and flavoursome Indian meals. Nawabi chicken is the best I've ever tasted. Most tender and fabulous spice flavour. Perfect. A good selection of dishes and a good basic wine and beverage list. This will become our new "local", the main New Lynn free off street car park is at the back, too for the pragmatists. We went for lunch, at which time they offer an inexpensive lunch special menu, a grill menu, and the full menu. We chose the full menu. Great!
N T Tinomana Haulangi
Went for dinner there and was greeted so warmly. I ordered the poppadom platter and afghani chicken. The chicken was so delicious as the smoky taste went right down to the chicken bones. The service was fantastic and food was superb. The prices were reasonable and we would definitely come back again! Yummy!

Tried this place as a local the for the first time on the weekend. We took our daughter also. The curries were the most flavorous i have tasted in a long time. Not a " one sauce cooks all" style like so many other restaurants do.
Even do a kids butter chicken for $7.00 which our daughter really enjoyed also.
I have to say we will defiantly be having takeaways and visiting more. A great local Curry house, best in the surrounding areas without doubt.
Chris Baldock
Excellent, friendly service and delicious curries.

We were very impressed with Bukhara, who easily accommodated our table for 7 on a recent Saturday night.

We ordered a variety of dishes, all with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, and were well pleased with what came out of the kitchen. The only minor complaint came from the vegetarian in the group, who considered the palak paneer to be a little over-pureed.

A great bit of competition for the other Indian eateries in the area. They deliver too!
Kelly Langi
Wow! So glad I don't have to travel far now for superior Indian food. Lovely quiet atmosphere (except for our kids who were made most welcome!), and comfortable atmosphere. Beautiful authentic decor. Service was very friendly and accommodating. But most importantly the food was incredible! All natural flavours and obviously cooked from scratch, the stand out was Lamb Rara, don't miss it! Look forward to my next meal here.
Lisa Tremewan
We enjoyed excellent service at Bukhara Indian Grill. We needed to eat relatively quickly (as we were going to a movie afterwards) but they attended to us very well. The food was delicious. The decor was very nice. I also appreciated that they don't use artificial colours in their food and they don't reheat food, it is all all cooked fresh. We will definitely be going back. We enjoyed the linen tablecloths and napkins too. Highly recommended.

Had the pleasure of going to a new Indian restaurant which has recently opened in New Lynn and found Indian food with a bit of a difference.
The decor was nicely done with comfortable chairs lovely soft lighting ,crisp white table cloths which were changed after each table had been reset.
The waiter was very informative about the food and as each dish is freshly cooked it and not premade it was cooked exactly to how spicy each of us wanted it done.
The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious we had two courses both great and served in just the right space of time the restaurant was not busy but I'm sure once the word gets out it will be.
The menu had a good range to choose from including good vegetarian options prices were average you usually expect to pay.
Restrooms were clean and tidy.
Needless to say we will be back to sample some more of the delicous food again

Authentic and great tasting Indian cuisine all around. There are some restaurants where trying the entrées are merely a routine - Bhukhara is definitely NOT one of them. There are a whole range of amazing entrees there are well worth your money! The Nawabi chicken is a definite must try entrée and here, it has to be noted, for those who are willing to try the authentic Indian extra hot flavour, this restaurant is the one for you! For those who are inclined towards having a moderate amount of spices (and enjoying your food without having to regret it the morning after!) - just avoid asking for "extra spicy" and you will be well on your way towards tasting some traditional Indian flavour! The mains are an all easy on the taste buds with a variety of choices. If stuck for an option, you cannot go wrong with the bhukara chicken - the chef's speciality! Desserts are somewhat sparse, with the mango lassi tasting a bit like mango youghurt but the Tiramisu is good as gold!

The only inconvenience here could be that the waiters choose to pour a glass of water one glass at a time, rather than leaving a pitcher of water on the table - which can become quite irritable over the course of the meal. Nonetheless, this is something that can easily be fixed by merely asking for the pitcher to be left on the table during the start of the meal. Friendly, courteous staff who try their best to be attentive yet unobtrusive. Quiet setting and the option for BYO is great for a quiet romantic evening over a bottle of wino.

All in all a great place! Another well kept secret in West Auckland!

Great staff and awesome Indian food means this establishment is worth dining at.

Great place to have Indian food in New Lynn. I went there with my friends to have Lunch and had their Bukhara special chicken curry. The taste was a bit on a spicy side but it was really worth it as I love spicy food. The staff of the restaurant was nice and friendly and the service was also quick. Highly recommended....

If you like real Indian food, I thoroughly recommend the Bukhara. The menu is thankfully reasonably short and all the dishes I have tried have distinct and authentic flavours. I have lived in Delhi and had my own cook, so take it from me, this is Indian food as it should be. There are lots of interesting dishes to choose from but the Lagan ki Matachli is one of my favourites. One of the best fish curries I have ever tasted
