Review Tom Tom Bar &eatery - Auckland Central

This is a perfect place to meet up with a large group of people. They have a nice big marquee out side and the service is friendly and efficient. This elevated bar also has splendid views. A really nice place to have a few drinks and nibbles and you can always get a cab outside when you want to leave.

Enjoyed a great 21st here, didn’t get to try much of the food, but bar staff were great when ordering drinks. Venue has a lot of space for big groups, but can be configured for smaller groups too I assume. The music experience towards the end of the night was unique and evidently quite popular.

Had my 21st here a few weeks ago. I was constantly emailing them as I was so nervous all would go wrong. When it came to the night everything went perfectly and I think the manager James I think his name was? Or Matthew? was incredible!!! Made sure I was happy with everything and everyone had alot of fun. Thanks for the good night!

Just a random visit to Tom Tom for the first time tonight.. Absolutely loved it!!! Great vibes and AMAZING food.We ordered Surf and Turf, TomTom burger & Pork Ribs and they were so delicious! we all couldn't finish our food because the portion of them were HUGE. We also had the samosa and spring rolls platter which was DELICIOUS. I would definitely come back with a group! We happened to go at a time that a DJ was in the house - Ethan James/DJ Banty. They played real dance music that made our night! Thank you TomTom!

I was here few months ago with a big group of friends. The ambience was good and the staff had good customer service skills. They had a decent drinks menu. The food was good. Would recommend them :) Cheers

Friendly environment great bouncers doing a great job to make sure we're all safe n sound. Staff a little unsure of certain things, and afew of the bar staff were hard to understand there English.

Great food, great service, great day. My worth it winner for bottomless brunch. Rivers is fantastic. He made sure we had a great time. Would 100% recommended coming to Tom Tom.

I was here for a Latino night - Friday night. The class was great and the social dance was really fun. Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba was rotated regularly. Atmosphere was really great and I enjoyed the night. Thank you guys, you're doing excellent job.

A great place with a nice mix of an 'in the heart of the city' feeling yet secluded right next to the park. Quite pricey but you certainly get what you pay for. Suitable for a business or family context.

Amazing cocktails with excellent food. Best rooftop places to go in Auckland for a late night party. Courteous and friendly staff too!

Such awesome food. Everything was worth it. Staff was awesome too. Always checked in with us to see if we were ok or if we needed anything☺️

I never share reviews there's always something that's not up to scratch but Tom Tom is an exception to every rule the service is impeccable from the moment u enter the door! You can even tease the waiters and they will good humouredly respond the food is devine and reasonably priced but the cocktails ahhhh heaven. I never rank a place 10/10 but once again Tom Tom is the exception!

These guys are making the best Sheesha with a wide range of flavors. With DJ on site, you should visit this place on Fridays and Sundays to enjoy the atmosphere.

Had an amazing dinner here last night. The new bar manager that served us was amazing, he went over and above and I can honestly say it was the best service we have received from any restaurant we've been too. The food was incredible and the roof top venue is very cool. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Came for dinner and drinks tonight with three of us. First of all there was no front of house, so picked our own table- waited, then got up to get our own drinks and food menu's. Had to call a waiter over to place our order, waited a ling time then reminded him about our drinks. (Bar is sponsored by Asahi, they had run out on tap, this and 4 other tap drinks) Ordered our mains- these took an age; considered paying for the drinks and leaving before eating. Food eventually came- rating 3/10 (is the fish frozen from a box?) went to try and pay- waited close to ten minutes to give our money and get out of there. Overall- not impressed and won't be back. For a cool bar and location- tomtom- you need to sort your act.

Real cool rooftop venue, upmarket feel with great service and the food was more than you would expect from a pub-ish type venue, our food was presented well and packed full of flavour. There is a big variety of food too, regular menu, bar snacks, and tasting plates; you can tell the chefs must really work hard to put the food together and maintain the quality. My wife said the pasta was the best she had eaten in a while.

I really liked this quaint little place. It's a bit of a gem, tucked away in a side street by Vic Markets but it has a really nice layout, and it's the type of bar that has a real summer vibe. Delicious food, and good looking staff too ;) haha

Have just left your premises after waiting 10 minutes at the bar for a drink. I didn't receive any acknowledgement from either of the two bar staff on duty. There were 2 people being served when I arrived and when it came to my turn, the bar staff simply walked away without any eye contact. Very poor for a quiet Wednesday night, won't be returning with so much choice in the area.

Bottomless Brunch was a monumental abortion! Food was stone cold, drinks were far and few between & our waitress was just straight up basic!
Ceyda Soral
The worst service I have honestly received. Waited over an hour for a drink after having to ask twice for any attention and still ignored all evening. Even when drinks were ordered and 20 mins later we requested our food order be taken it was said the drink hadnt been put through yet as she thought she would wait on tje food!?! GF food requested that was 100% not. Prawns that were oozing brown liquid and tasted of dirt. Rude wait staff probably the manager that blamed having lots to do as to why we were so neglected. Excuse after excuse. We asked for an apology only to have a reply he had already given us one which in fact did not happen. The bill was over priced and incorrect to the menu. The drink was terribly lacking and the fries were accidently thrown all over us. That's just a summary. Absolutely appalling service and hope everyone avoids. Why we never walked out is beyond me. I think starvation had set in.

Wow - Friday night, have to rush to get orders in because the kitchen will close. There is no one here! The food comes out and it is stone cold, perhaps it was leftover from lunch? That was only the half of the issues at the table, at least I got what I ordered! Shambles

It was my first time here & just for desert & drinks. We ordered all three deserts available & each one was "to die for". Very generous portions. The cocktail my friend ordered was really nice & the rest of us (4) opted for hot drinks. The wait staff were attentive, the atmosphere & ambience great, with great views of the Sky Tower. We are planning to go back with our husbands for nibbles & drinks when their band is playing. Disheartened to read some poor reviews on this site now though.

Walked in during a super busy night and couldn't have felt more accommodated. The cap'n Rafael moved heaven and earth to ensure we felt at home and the food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back soon!!

The best ever bar in NZ. The food, the cocktails, the entertainment, everything is on point.

I organised my best friends hens party here and we had the best night, cocktails were delicious, food was yummy and the service was amazing! Our server was a young girl called Lani and she looked after us so well! We organised flowers through the venue which were absolutely gorgeous! A great night, I would definitely go back! Thanks team :)

Great venue for a party or an intimate dinner like the one they put on for Valentine’s Day. Our social club with 600 members drink there every week, great people, food and prices
Steven Mallett
Over priced and service if you can call it that waa basically non existent. Over priced. Toilets were dirty.
Lisa Whyte
I have only been here for a function but the service was terrible. The venue wasn’t set up despite the function starting and the staff looked like they would rather be anywhere else. Towards the end of the night one of our party misplaced a phone and I approached the nearest staff member to ask if any had been handed in, I was told “I dunno I’ve been in the office” by the manager...no offer to help look or point me to someone who could assist, YIKES!

After seeing all the 1 Star reviews for the bottomless brunch we were not expecting much going into our booking. <br/><br/>We did the boozy brunch which is $50 rather than the bottomless brunch for $70 as we thought it was too expensive considering places like Lula inn do it for cheaper. The 6 drinks were more than enough for all of us, and because the place was quiet we ended up being served after our 2 hour package. <br/><br/>The food was decently sized portions and looked far nicer than some of the previous pictures. Definitely looked like cafe quality meals. The pancakes were the best option from the brunch menu, but I also had the salmon bagel which was very nice - just a little lacking on the hollandaise. <br/><br/>The service was really friendly and attentive even though our crowd was a bit hard to deal with. Really sorry to the team for having to deal with us haha but they did so very politely and well.

Wow that sounds awesome... Except your restaurant is apparently closes on Sundays for boozy brunches... Even though the staff booked us in on a Sunday.. 👏 I would really like to leave a good review except there is literally nothing to review
Matilda Aaltonen
Bottomless brunch review:<br/><br/>- Service is slow and disorganised<br/>- atmosphere is average<br/>- music is like the whole of the lamest spotify on shuffle<br/>- food was a dry bagel with raw eggs and too much relish no hollandaise with 2 sad halloumi pieces and dry salad leaves.....literally the cheapest thing you could make.. no wonder I'm drunk now because I couldn't eat that.<br/>- so many rules I feel quite anxious like I'm at school again.<br/>- this cost 70 dollars....?<br/>- no beer option as a drink..<br/><br/>Over all 1/5 one point from the outside deck.

Great seafood and service, just stepper on prices, would recommend for an upscale night out or just for a couple of drinks with friends or colleagues

I arranged some casual leaving drinks for a group of about 25 people and the entire process was easy and seamless.  I can definitely recommend all of the platters as finger food for a large group - it was delicious and easy for everyone - and the venue was relaxed, spacious with great service.  Thanks for a fantastic event.

First off, let’s start with the fact we booked in a bottomless brunch in for 5 people well in advance and on the day of, we still received no confirmation and had to call when they opened to double check our booking had gone through!<br/><br/>Upon arrival, staff were rude, not welcoming and frankly, please hire people who know how to smile otherwise take them off front of house.<br/><br/>We were seated and given the menus and after we had ordered, our food came out quite promptly - this is probably the only good thing I have to say about our experience. It then dawned on us why the food had come out so quickly - it was VERY poorly made.<br/><br/>Let me begin with the vanilla pancakes with berries, maple syrup and cream. IS THIS MEAL A JOKE? I received 3 measly pancakes with 3 blobs of what just tasted like berry jam I could’ve bought at the supermarket and a pathetic dollop of cream? McDonald’s hotcakes taste better and your so called vanilla pancakes seemed like they were bought from the frozen food aisle at the supermarket and heated up in your microwave. I cannot believe that anybody in your establishment thinks this is ok to serve.<br/><br/>Your English B’Fast had absolutely no flavour to anything, I mean some seasoning or salt & pepper wouldn’t hurt. The eggs were suppose to be scrambled but they were overcooked and they were more like crumbled eggs plus your ‘toast’ wasn’t even toasted?! It was still just bread! <br/><br/>The B’fast Bagel wasn’t much better with once again the bagel not even being toasted, the relish only smeared on one half of the bagel, the halloumi messily arranged and the hollandaise tasting below average.<br/><br/>Now let’s move on to the drinks - to our understanding this meant unlimited drinks until our time was up. However with the extremely poor service, we were waiting forever to get checked on and for our drinks to come out, we had to constantly wave down the staff and even had to get up multiple times to go to the bar ourselves and order our own drinks. No excuses for this as it wasn’t even busy (now I understand why).<br/><br/>For the $70 each we paid, we could’ve done better going out for breakfast at Denny’s and buying a box or hot bottle at the liquor store. We will not be recommending this for bottomless brunch to anybody, I wouldn’t even send I people I don’t like here.<br/><br/>Overall, everything was extremely unsatisfactory and the one star I’m giving you is only because it was sunny that day.<br/>

I had booked Tom Tom's Boozy Brunch for my 22nd birthday on Saturday. Much to my disappointment I arrived and it was like the cafe wasn’t even open? <br/><br/>Nothing was set up, no staff were there except for the kitchen hand (who was as helpful as he could be without knowing what was happening)... and no one knew what was going on. <br/><br/>There were about 6 different groups of people there who also had bookings, were confused and had no information. <br/><br/>I called the event manager who I had booked my reservation with and he said he would look into it but I heard nothing back. <br/><br/>Really disappointed in this experience. I still haven't heard back three days later about what happened and why. Would not recommend.

Went to bottomless brunch over the weekend.  They had no table for us so we ended up standing (group of 8).  It took over an hour for our first drinks to be served. They totally messed up the brunch order one of the group got her food an hour after the rest of us.  Told the manager that was there we had been waiting and spoke to the two other tables next to us who were both in the same boat as us.  Will NEVER set foot in here again back to the Lula inn we go as their bottomless brunch is $5 cheaper and is actually bottomless with actual service.  Literally the worst service I've ever received it was like a mickey mouse show.  All about cramming people in to get their money rather than quality of service.

Absolutely terrible service been waiting over an hour for our drinks and no one know what the heck is going on do NOT go there it’s shit. Understaffed obviously grrrr so annoying

My family and I came here for lunch. We had the express menu. I orders the chicken burger with fries which was satisfying. It’s a pretty decent menu for $15. The staff were great and food was delivered quickly. It’s a great place to catch with friends and grab a drink after work as well.

i genuinely don’t even know where to start with this review. <br/><br/>went with a group of around 20 people for a friend’s birthday for the boozy brunch. when we turned up, the were pointed towards a table and told that was ours. there was no cutlery, no water, and the bottle of cleaning spray was still on the table. we sat down. my seat was broken. swapped the chair out and moved on. <br/><br/>we waited 20 minutes, and someone came over to say that we would be getting our drink tickets soon. we had ordered our food ahead of time via email so the kitchen wouldn’t get overwhelmed. turns out, that didn’t matter. an hour in and some of us get our first meal. still not a drink in sight. a few of the people we were with got up and went to the bar and came back with a tray of glasses and water, some cutlery and salt and pepper. we were serving ourselves. <br/><br/>15 minutes go past, still no drinks. some more of the meals come out. eventually everyone gets a meal, except me as the kitchen has forgotten to make mine. a friend ordered a cappuccino. they made a long black and left it on the counter for ten minutes. 10 minutes later (we’re about an hour and a half in at this point) some of us finally get our drinks. her coffee was cold, not what she ordered, and there was no milk. i finally got my meal. almost two hours in, some people still haven’t even received their first meal. at this point we’re beyond fed-up. the food was cold, the bagels weren’t toasted, the coffee was terrible. <br/><br/>we’re watching as some girls walk up to the bar, order and get 3 drinks and walk off. most of us haven’t had our first drink and we’ve been here for much longer than they had. <br/><br/>by now, we’ve spent two hours in stunned disbelief at just how bad the service has been, and some of the group go up to complain. we are told to pay what we think is fair. we (generously) paid $20 towards it as all of us eventually gotten a meal and almost all of us had a drink. <br/><br/>we ended up stopping by a bottle store and doing our own bottomless brunch at someone’s flat. <br/><br/>i cannot stress enough how atrocious this outing was. we had to serve ourself, request the same thing multiple times and all this was meant to cost $50?? no bloody way mate. <br/><br/>i’m sure this is a lovely bar, but it sure is a terrible brunch spot. i wouldn’t even send someone i didn’t like here. <br/><br/>if you need a bottomless brunch, i can’t recommend The Lulu Inn enough. i have even more appreciation for how slick their operation is after experiencing the car wreck that was the tom tom boozy brunch.
Matchstick Reviews
We went here for a "bottomless brunch" for a friend's birthday. Things did not go well. The place itself is quite cool, it's big, open, and has a good aesthetic. However, this is where the positives stop.<br/><br/>The food was mediocre. I ordered the bacon bagel which was missing both the hollandaise and tomato relish. The egg was undercooked and there was so much butter that I couldn't finish it. A friend got the omelette which had no appeal to it at all, no after thought was put in to make the dish look somewhat appetizing (photo below). Most of the dishes were missing ingredients with a total lack of consistency. A friend also requested her tomato relish that was forgotten and it was returned with just some chopped tomato. Further to this there was basically no gluten free options leaving my partner relatively choiceless here.<br/><br/>Then there was the service.... This was slow with a never ending deluge of mistakes. They got the food orders wrong about four times presenting food that had to be sent back for not being gluten free or vegan. The worst was that we had to give up with them trying to bring out a gluten free dish because they had gotten it wrong so many times that my partner was hungry and had to eat something. The wait staff were found to argue with us as a group when we would try to explain that we didn't order certain dishes, but they were adamant that we did. I could go on and on about this experience but that would be a review of extreme length.<br/><br/>So, I'll try and keep it succinct as an overall. The setting was the best part as you get a view into Victoria Park and the decor is good and modern. But then positives stop there. They ran out of champagne flutes, the food was average, and the service was very unfortunate. Ultimately it was not worth the 50 dollars that I parted with for this experience. Unfortunately, my final verdict is that I can't recommend this place to anyone as I won't be back. A lot of work is needed here...

Have been here twice for Friday lunches with workmates (visiting a week apart) and been extremely disappointed each time. The only menu available the first time was the '$15 express lunch' menu. This has 2x burgers, 2x wraps, 2x salads, and fish and chips. Three of us ordered the "fish and chips with pineapple slaw, lemon and tartare". We each received a piece of battered fish (from frozen), overcooked and unseasoned chips, cheap bottle tartare sauce and a few green leaves. We requested pineapple slaw and were brought a small ramekin of tinned pineapple by the waiter. One ordered a chicken wrap with house made chilli sauce, got no sauce. We had an Entertainment Book 25% off voucher which the waiter said they would honour, but when we went to pay the man behind the till (manager?) said they wouldn't.<br/>The next time we visited a second 'bar snacks' menu had appeared. There was only one copy of this menu in the entire place, which the few unlucky lunch tables had to share. We were passing it from table to table to supplement the 'express lunch' menu. This time all of us ordered from the 'bar snacks' menu. "Slow cooked vege nachos with sour cream, cheese and jalapenos" were actually corn chips with lots of raw cabbage, some capsicum and onions, about 20g of cheese, a few jalapenos and no sour cream. Wedges with sour cream, cheese and jalapenos arrived only with cheese. Calamari with aioli came without aioli. All food was dry, boring, overpriced, not as it said on the menu. Dishes were stretched about half an hour apart from start to finish, despite there being less than 15 people in the whole place. And they completely forgot one person at our table's order. <br/>This place is an absolute waste of time. Incompetent management must be paying an absolute fortune in rent for the incredible space and deck, but can't stretch to hire proper chefs or wait staff who know how to read a menu. It is honestly not worth your time or money. Do not go here.

Visited for a "Boozy Brunch" at 11:30am on a Sunday and was dissapointed to discover that the menu that we had looked up online, was different to that of their current offerings in terms of drinks and food alike. Additional to this, when requesting items on the menu available, we requested one item and were told that they were not sure if they had it or not, so we gave an alternative option just in case.<br/>When the food arrived 3 out of 6 meals were incorrect and we had not been informed that the items that we originally ordered were unavailable so they had brought out our alternative options, which were also incorrect.<br/>It is not to fault the server who apparently was not aware of all of these changes, however the staff were incredibly rude and unapologetic, acting as though it were our faults that we had requested the items on the menu... Having to request to have drinks topped up each time as they had not yet done so, was also not the best service.. Would 10/10 not recommend celebrating a birthday here to anyone...
Brittany Ansell
Service was horrible, was there at 8pm on a Friday night wasn’t too busy and we waited at the bar for 20 minutes to get served while bar staff looked us up and down and ignored us. One girl asked for IDs and we thought we would get our order taken after that however she just walked off. Never have I been to a place with such rude staff
Bree Wesselink
We had a great time celebrating a birthday at Tom Tom's bottomless brunch! Service was slow and unorganized for the first 20 mins but our waiter for the second half more than made up for it, he was super attentive and let us stay for an extra 20 minutes. Food was generally good, but don't order pancakes if you're hungry. Great ambience outside in the sun too!
Alice
Extremely average service and over priced. Wouldn’t go again, Any interaction we had with the bar staff was met with angst from their side, they were rude and seemed more interested in drinking themselves rather than helping bay customer.
Samantha Beardsley
A group of us went to Tom Toms for lunch today to experience the express lunch menu. This experience was far from express. As soon as we arrived we had our drinks order taken (4 drinks) for them to only turn up over 30minutes later. We ordered seven meals to have only six arrive an hour later. Further to this, a bunch of the girls ordered B.L.T sandwich’s which were in fact not B.L.Ts (see photo) but prosciutto filled. Staff were not apologetic, their only saver was the lady in a stripe shirt behind the bar (super friendly and understanding) overall would not recommend for an express lunch or a cheap eats lunch.

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing staff. deff a 5star rating for me. Would highly recommend this place, outside deck is amazing in the summer also amazing at night.
Aashna Saxena
Average food. Below average customer service. Dont hold your event here as staff dont know what to do and like to leave all the organization until last minute and complain when we ask for them to do something! Seriously need to up their service and get rid of the rude attitude towards guests. And put some real alcohol in their drinks
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Great place to hangout with friends or colleagues after work. Good atmosphere and great selection of food and beer. Plenty of parking at the back.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch; it was a little confusing at first because there was a painting workshop held there and I thought it was closed off...<br/><br/>Got the Halloumi Spiced Peach Salad with Free Range Chicken Confit; my friend got the Beef Steak Sandwich. <br/>The Halloumi Salad was INCREEEEDIBLE! Probably the best seasoned salad I’ve had anywhere! Halloumi was flavoursome and cooked to perfection; chicken was also tender and full of flavour, as it can usually be bland and dry. The small bed of quinoa was also nicely seasoned with salt, although perhaps a little bit dry. The purple cabbage was crunchy and the sauce drizzled over it pulled everything together really nicely. <br/>The steak sandwich looked kind of just like half of a burger, but it looked flavourful enough—no complaints from my friend. <br/><br/>Service wise, the lady serving us forgot to give us water despite us asking for both another menu and a cup of water. And I think the hygiene of the glasses and cutlery really could improve; she changed the knife twice for my friend because of stains. The glasses also had some black crust on it too, not sure what that was. I also did notice a small piece of hair in my salad but it didn’t have a significant impact on my overall impression of the dish. <br/><br/>Food: 7/10<br/>Price: 8/10<br/>Ambience: 8/10<br/>Service: 6/10

The sun is shining and it's just too good to miss it. Plus it's Friday. The manager lets us out early to enjoy what might be the last dose of hot weather before the wet and the gloomy season, so of course we head to the near bar with a decent deck area. I'd been to Tomtom for the Christmas function for a previous company so know they have good food but this is my first time for an after work drinks. The interior is dark compared to the bright deck out the back, half covered in a canopy with couches, the other half in the sun with tables and chairs. This is definitely not a pub.

I recently went here as part of a mid year function for my work. It was Friday night and they had one other group and a handful of other people there for a casual drink. I thought it was rather strange and would expect more people?! Anyway we arrived and they sat us down and asked us to order our dinner. It should be noted that we had already preordered our food upon their request prior to us arriving. All is well and the food comes along. I must admit the food looked lovely but the taste was so salty! To the point if not being able to eat your dinner. The chicken pasta, eye fillet, lamb, pork belly were horrifically salty. The angus beef burgers were bland. My partner ordered the burger and left over half of it which is very unlike him! Another person in our group ordered the fish and didnt finish it either, he thought something might have been wrong with due to the smell and taste. Its sad the foods taste didnt met up to the foods look. If this place was managed better and the food was sampled before serving this place would be 100% better!

This has to be the most unorganised and poorly run bars in Auckland. Do not book your event at Tom Toms. I recently had my 30th birthday there which was booked in over a month prior. When I turned up they didn't seem to know ANYTHING about my booking, or food order. They hadn't even set up the venue as 30 of my guests were arriving so we waited by the bar awkwardly while they tried telling me I booked in for 6pm. I went through my emails and clearly explained with proof I booked in for 3pm even though I was in contact with the bar via email and phone 6 times before my event. I called earlier that day to ask for my birthday to be moved inside because of bad weather which they said was fine. When we arrived we were put outside under the canopy with no heaters for over 3 hours and we were freezing. I have emailed the bar to complain with no response. They ruined my birthday and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there.....

I went to Tom tom with a group of friends for dinner. When half of us went up to order our meals. None of the staff at the bar took our order until five minutes later when one of my friends got the attention of someone at the bar. There were a couple of guys who got served drinks who came to the bar after us. I ordered wedges and buffalo hot wings which definitely weren't hot. Also a couple of my other friends meals weren't hot either. One of my mates asked the waiter if the meal was meant to be cold or hot and he said hot. After telling him it was cold he didn't bother to apologise or to replace the mussels. I think the staff need to work on their customer service skills and something needs to be done about the temperature of the food. Definitely won't be back.

Have been here on 2 previous occasions and have been pretty happy with the food & service. Will never go back now - ordered 3 small plates on Friday night which had no flavour at (polenta sticks, chicken sliders and kimchi chicken) and below average service by their bar man. He was awfully rude to us and not helpful.
Stella Hodgson
The past two times I've been here the we've had trouble being served, waitstaff don't seem to focus on serving customers.  We ordered three items from the bar snack menu and they took 40 mins to arrive, the bread and dips were forgotten about (when it did arrive, the bread was stale). The prawn skewers tasted a bit off, they only have one prawn, with a shell, kind of defeats the purpose of putting it on a skewer. The margarita quesadilla was all tomato and no cheese. Just not a whole lot of effort put in to the food. <br/><br/>Staff did apologise when we brought up these issues, saying they didn't expect such a rush on a Tuesday (there were less than 20 people there). <br/><br/>It's such a great sunny venue, gets the longest amount of sun in the city. Will only order drinks next time.

We went here last night as the noodel night markets were too busy and they were just accross the road.We ordered a few small plates to share. The polenta chips were so dry they crumbles when I tried to put my fork in.The flank steak was tough and overcooked and there was another meat on the plate which was a cross between corned silverside and ham, no sure what that was even doing on the plate. The fried chicken was dry and tasteless, no seasoning at all.The prawns were ok but they were only 3 on the plate. The surf and turf skewers were nice but only 2 very small ones on the plate. The pork belly had a nice flavour but very dry. Then when we went to pay we stood at the bar area next to a till and was completely ignored by lots of staff coming and going around the area for at least 10 minutes, eventually we asked someone if we could pay and were told that we were waiting on the wrong side of the bar. Will definately not be going back there!!!Very dissapointing

Came for an event for my friend's 21st, the place was so nice especially the marquee outside. Just a little bit too cold for Auckland weather but it was great. Food was good as well. Loved it. I would come back next time definitely

We had booked in advanced for a dinner of 10 people. When we arrived they sat us at a bar table and said to order drinks. Everyone had arrived and just wanted dinner. We waited a little for a waiter to come back (take our drink orders if we were having any) but no one came. After 30 mins we tried to get the attention of a staff member walking past but all seems to just look the other way or just look and then wonder off. After 1 hour of sitting there and no one approaching us we went up and asked if we could be seated at our table ( we had booked 1 week in advance and they had our name down and everything) but we were told that all dinner tables were reserved. Don't see why ours weren't as that is what we had booked for. So we ask for the menu and we will just eat at the bar table. Once we decided what to eat we all had to go up to the teller individually and order out good as no staff had come to take our order once again. <br/>Food was ohkay although the dish I ordered didn't state the it had and spice or chilli in it and when I took my first bite it was so spicy I couldn't eat it. Next I had some of my partners chowder only to find a whole prawn.. head and tail and everything still attached. Not really what I wanted to find. Over all the service was crapy and slow. Food was ohkay tasting but good size portions. Won't come back though

<br/>Fab service. Food ok. The BLT was a little crusty.<br/>Coffee great. Great views outside. Mock tails were really liked. Great venue just work on the food a little

Great service, I think it was Roger who served us.very polite and gave some great suggestions. Only reason I am giving 4.5 is coz we ordered chai latte and it was not upto standard. But must visit place.

Great place to hang out with friends and colleagues, conveniently located near the city centre and also  great food. A good place to head to on  a Friday  or Saturday eve.

Came for a farewell party and was seated outside. Quite a large area out there, it even had a tent (which we weren't in). The place has a nice view overlooking Victoria Park (but disappeared as night came). Even though it started to rain we were able to take shelter under the umbrellas before heading inside.<br/><br/>The food looked nice but tasted ok. I had the sirloin and it was cooked well but was quite small. Also found the brocolini was a bit soft. Friend had the burger which looked amazing but the buns were stale so made it quite disappointing.<br/><br/>It was quite a large place so quite good for a party but I think that the food was only ok even though it is around $30 a plate.

Better late than never – an idiom that, perhaps, holds little meaning to a famished foodie’s appetite after a workout. I had heard good things about Tom Tom. A nice bar, great food and a large outdoor deck with views over Victoria Park. And though they ticked all of these boxes, they messed up on the serving time. Big time.

Ate dinner here at the end of last year. Food was fantastic, Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, atmosphere and prices were also great. Would highly recommend eating here. We also had our two kids 5 and 8 with us they accommodated well for them both with food and keeping them entertained.

A nice place to go for drinks and dinner. Located opposite to victoria park. Has got ample of seating outdoors and indoors. They had live music playing. The staff is absolute amazing. I would just go back for the staff.<br/><br/>The food portions are more than ample. Tried the carbonara pasta, fish and chips, feta and beetroot finished with chocolate mousse. A good place to go with a group.

I've read the negative comments and actually wondered if they were meant for here? I couldn't fault the service and food. Wait staff very attentive and friendly. Food was nicely presented and the quesidilla was to die for. Great place to catch up with friends. Pumping music and great ambience.

Outstanding birthday with 50 people on your deck last Saturday. Your customer service and venue was excellent a couple of months back when we had dinner, and that was the reason we booked you again. Second to none.  Cheers

Abysmal service. <br/><br/>Girlfriend ordered 2 Mojitos for an exorbitant price, waited an hour and nothing came (there were not many patrons there.) We could see all the staff laughing and doing nothing at the bar. Had to ask for our drinks again, at which point they gave us a sour look. When they eventually came they only brought 1 of 2 and had no alcohol. My girlfriend was fed up and said we would just like our money back instead (we have never done this before, and hate seeing people that do, so were pretty annoyed). After another hour they came back with the money for one drink (we paid for 2). <br/><br/>We will never go back. Whoever owns this place needs to sort their arrogant staff out.
Dan Hoyle
Ok, so they claimed to be running out of almost all the favorite items on the menu. The service is actually very good but not being able to fulfill customer satisfaction is our gripe.<br/>I will also mention when I asked for all the meals to be bought out at the same time. Some came, then more a few minutes later, then the last two came after all the others had already finished eating. <br/>There was no cutlery bought out either, this was especially bad due to some of the orders being steak.<br/> I've never had this sort of service at an establishment before, even Dennys can figure out you use steak knives to eat steak.

Amazing place to go with the friends or with your couple. Delicious food, incredible atmosphere, the people who works there are so lovely, very good attention. Definitely one of my favorites to go after work in the weeks and on weekends. Always perfect.

Wow what a change! When this place first opened I was worried whether it would survive. Most of the time it looked empty - possibly due to the expensive menu for someone just wanting a quick lunch. Today at lunch time it was buzzing, a lot of amateur diners enjoying themselves, great decor, impeccable service, and a funky well priced express lunch menu. Everything on the menu sounded fabulous, and my fish tacos delivered in terms of taste and presentation. Other features of Tom Tom include free wifi and the large sunny deck overlooking Vic Park, perfect for the upcoming sunny days of summer....

We visited Tom-Tom over the weekend to celebrate a friends birthday.<br/>We had been many months before and had found the service poor so we're not expecting great things but we were very pleasantly suprised.<br/>We were informed by a very friendly and attentive host that the venue is now under new ownership and they had made many changes.<br/>The outdoor space is really well designed, the food was beautiful but the service made the evening extra special.<br/>We are planning on bringing the family back for our anniversary later in the year.

Ordered nibbles and drinks and the food was fantastic ! The wait took a little while but waitress was nice enough to apologise :) would definately come back

Great atmosphere , large, warm comfortable outdoor area, great for a group function or after work drinks and nibbles , will definitely be coming back. GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015

Had lunch with colleagues few weeks ago, I had a fish burger. <br/><br/>The food taste was average but it was lacking toppings in the burger, it had one little lettuce, one little slice of tomato and little onion. I can't remember the exact price abut you'll have to order fries separately.  <br/><br/>The staff were friendly and the ambience was good, it looked like a good place for a night out but if you are seeking for a good burger, this won't give you a satisfaction.

Recently dined at Tom Tom Bar & Eatery for dinner and our over all experience was great! atmosphere is chilled back, modern, trendy and inviting. love the décor. our hostess was wonderful, very friendly, down to earth and informative. Now come to the food, I did enjoy my meal however I was still hungry after it was finished, myself and a another friend had the confit pork belly with cauliflower puree, carrots, accompanied by pepper and a date jus. It looked beautiful. on the menu it does state crackling however I did not get crackling. the top of the 2small pieces of pork belly were not crackled (and I do love my pork crackle) yet only half crispy some parts of the skin were still slightly chewy, the pork itself was cooked well, and all the combination of flavours were a delight, which I really enjoyed. I jus was nice but it didn't really taste like date and pepper, at one point I thought it could have been horseradish not pepper. hubby and 3other friends had the scotch fillet with red wine braised cabbage, truss tomato topped with mushroom sauce, I did taste test and the steak was cooked good (med) however the fat was not rendered enough and there was still chewy fat on the side, which is never pleasant & the mushroom sauce was mushroom sauce,& that is that. flavours were nice just needs a little more attention to presentation.I think each of the dishes did need something else (ie: roasted potatoes/kumara or taro/breadfruit/polenta fries) as we had to purchase chips separately. the guys were still hungry after their meal too. about an hour later we ordered 2 bread and dips plates, the hummus was really good and had a kick to it. our over all experience was good but we all left still hungry so either the dishes are under sized or they are over priced.  I would love to go back but possibly try something completely different. hopefully something a little more filling. walked past a table that had something like a seafood chowder and it smelt divine!

This was a great restaurant and we had an excellent experience! The food was wonderful. We had the tom-tom platter with dumplings, ribs, etc. that was enough food for three of us. We also had fish and chips and for a burger. The fish and chips was fresh and crisp and the burger was perfectly cooked. The service was amazing. There's a great atmosphere and a fun vibe. The outdoor eating area is going to be wonderful during the summer. We will definitely be back!

Terrible food! <br/>- Deep fried fish smells very strong baking powder smell and the fish wasn't fresh;<br/>- The burger was not better than the $2.80 one from the take away shops, made twice still can't eat it;<br/>- Steak was far over cook as we ordered and the vegetables were terrible!<br/>- The chips were dry and chewy,<br/>- Over half of the salad on the children's meal were rotten! Can you believe that! For my 2 and half years old boy! <br/>- One of the waitress provided bad service and attitude<br/><br/>They deserve a 0 out of 5! But an other waitress provided great service, so we gave them a 1.<br/><br/>It was our  worse eating experience in Auckland.

My friend and I came for dinner at Tom Tom with a Grabone voucher. I had mixed feelings about the night overall - the service was great, the staff were friendly, attentive and informative. However the food left me quite underwhelmed. <br/><br/>Our voucher was $100 to be spent in one visit, so my friend and I ordered a ridiculous amount of food for two people - we were hungry though! We ordered the pork belly, calamari, Thai fried chicken, pork dumplings, ribs, pork belly and curly fries. <br/>I'll start by saying that the pork belly was not good at all.. The skin wasn't crispy in the slightest and it was basically like chewing a slab of animal fat - neither of us ate much if it. The calamari and chicken were ok, I found the calamari to have too much coating, and the "Thai" style chicken didn't have any flavour without the dipping sauce. The dumplings were good but nothing special... They're comparable to what you'd find on dominion road. The best of the bunch were the pork ribs, and you can't go wrong with curly fries!<br/><br/>Perhaps we ordered the wrong things... I'm not sure! I do think Tom Tom has the potential to be quite good though. Its a great space for dining out. Perhaps I'll return in future to see if they've stepped up their flavour game.

I had heard good things about Tom Tom. A nice bar, great food and a large outdoor deck with views over Victoria Park. And though they ticked all of these boxes, they messed up on the serving time. Big time.<br/><br/>On entering we were politely greeted by a friendly waiter, who quickly had us seated. The outdoor sitting area was bright and spacious. But this happened to be a busy day with a few too many chain smokers. Despite this mild annoyance, we decided to stay outside, enjoy the sun, drink a beer and well, how long could it take for the meal to arrive? Oh, it can take a long time.<br/><br/>An hour. Yes. Really. Disturbing the waiter twice to find out the status of the order didn't seem to make it any faster. We ordered the Scotch Fillet and the Fish of the Day with their famous Criss Cut Chips. The food was good overall. The fillet steak was medium rare (as ordered), tender and delicious. The sides and sauces complemented the steak and brought out its flavour even more. The fish was good, but nothing remarkable. The chips were novel, tasty and went well with the steak and fish. But was it worth the one hour wait? I think not.

Our engagement party was held here over the weekend. We found that the staff were incredibly helpful and the venue was superb. All our party guests had wonderful remarks about the outdoor ambiance. Having a dedicated bar setup for our party worked really well. The staff were very enthusiastic about helping out with any requests setting up and during the event and regularly checked with if anything additional is needed. We accidentally left behind our gifts, but fortunately for us, the staff had kept them safe overnight and returned them to us the next day (despite the bar being closed due to a public holiday. Overall, great food, great staff, perfect night.

Had dinner here last night.<br/>Ordered the market fish and the pork belly. <br/>I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I think their prices and portions are good.<br/>Both dishes were perfectly cooked. The fish was just right although, I could've done with a tuny bit more sauce (I'm a sauce person). The pork belly was very nice and tender, I loved the bits and pieces that came with the pork. I like the way they serve the crackling, it's very airy and crispy.<br/>I would like to come back and try the smaller plates.<br/>The venue has a nice feel. It was raining while we were there but I can imagine how nice it would be to sit outside on a beautiful day.

Nice staff ~ we had the market, eye fillet, pork belly. And ceviche <br/>the pan seared market fish was our favourite ~ the broth is amazing <br/>I really like their purée and sauces <br/>not much special about the ceviche though
Christina
Came here with a voucher, and despite its great views on the outdoor deck that's where the positive ends. We ordered entrees, pork belly for the main and desserts as the voucher didn't cover beverages. <br/><br/>Whilst waiting for our mains to arrive we decided to order ginger beer drinks to go with the pork belly. We had to ask the waiter where it was after waiting for a while and he said he "thought someone else had served us" our drinks. We then asked for our mains as we waited again. Finally our pork belly main arrived- which consisted of literally three small cubes of pork with CRUMBS of crackling. Really more of an entree size dish than a main. <br/><br/>Our drinks finally arrived when we'd almost finished our mains. <br/>By then we didn't even want it as it would taste terrible with our desserts and turned them away, but they ended up deciding to give us the drinks free of charge as they'd already poured it out anyway.<br/><br/>All in all a terrible experience, with silly prices for such small food portions. They also really need to train their staff better and be more attentive.

Forget about the mains, this place has the most memorable curly fries I ever tried. It's a great place to go and hang out with friends and the terrace is very enjoyable - don't forget to order fries though! ;)

Saw Tom Tom on Grabone, and jumped at the opportunity to try this place out. We came here on Valentines Day and chose an outdoor table at the back of the restaurant. It's very big outside and would be perfect for a big group function!<br/><br/>We enjoyed several dishes and a drink, while the sun started to set.<br/><br/>We ordered the ora king salmon, half a dozen fresh oysters, confit pork belly, saleyards road fillet steak and their special dessert for Valentines Day ♡<br/><br/>There's quite a few selections on the menu, so I look forward in returning to try the rest! Prices are okay, but probably leaning a bit towards the high side if I had to choose. Service was very good and our waitress was super friendly :)

I had one of the best meals at Tom Tom's, everything was 10 out of 10!We had the Ceviche, Breads, Prawn Cocktail, Salmon, Steak and Chocolate Mousse,I highly recommend Tom Tom for there food and drink selection topped of with a great location!

This place used to be a great place to go and hang out but for almost month, it has been the worst experience i have ever had in auckland. We ordered a simple mojioto and had to return it twice due to it not even being drinkable. By far the worst servers that we have come across, sloppy appearance rude and questionable behaviour that shocked both adults and children alike. The food was sloppy at best.... <br/><br/>Would and could not recommend tom tom to anyone

I went here on a Sat night with friends<br/><br/>We were seated promptly and the staff were prompt to attend to us. We ordered entrée, main and desserts. The menu overall is pub fare with some good dishes. My friend ordered the angus steak which was divine. I ordered the New York steak which was pretty average. The crispy fries are very good and so was the mushroom pasta. The entrees are good but pricey. I agree with some reviewers that food seems to run out often. We were told the raw salmon might have run out. Then, we wanted to order desserts and the most appealing to us was the feijoa and apple crumble which had run out !! We ordered sticky date and chocolate velvet pudding. Sticky date pudding was awful. Choc velvet pudding was good. I feel the dessert menu needs a makeover. <br/><br/>Overall good experience for the ambience. Good staff and service.

What a great find and in the entertainment book too! <br/>Lovely setting although always off putting having a "fine dining" restaurant with the rugby on (not a great look)!<br/><br/>Staff were attentive and we had the lovely Morgan as our waitress. Pleasant and informative.<br/><br/>Food was delicious and we will definitely be recommending this place to friends :)

Thanks so much for an awsum night. Held a function of about 90 people at Tomtoms and staff were outstanding. Very obliging and attentive. Great atmosphere... Loved the set up of our area. Thanks guys. Will definitely be back :)

Had two separate occasions here. 2 weeks apart. First at Saturday night, big table reservations over 10 people. Staff OK not overly attentive. Restaurant was full so understandable .One brunette girl who also served us on the Wednesday seemed nice but she just doesn't seem very on to it. Asking someone are they all rite when they come in with a partner and child isn't very attentive. Unsure what this question means when someone enters a restaurant ... Perhaps " are you here to eat "? Might be more attentive to what there purpose is. <br/>Fake qualities are easy to see and pleasant isn't just saying hello.<br/>The first question on the Wednesday was "are we a deal voucher" hmm. Meal size on the same steak was different . Given a margarita special size but charged the full price. Not asked how I want my steak. Got it rare. There seems to be little consistency with the meals, drinks, service. The Saturday for a friends birthday they had run out of the special steak at 7.30 and the waitress just didn't know how to address the customers on this, and she definitely didn't have solutions, only after being prompted that a lot of us were ordering the special steak and to go talk to the chef did she realise that we weren't happy about it and weren't going to just be told this news. Even when we left at the end and questioned the margarita and things not really being consistent she just choose to ignore. I'm in the service industry and understand some days are hard but the brunette waitress I dealt with is clearly not into her job and it shows. Starters were ok, nice meat plater. Breads and oil dip average.

As usual, one of the lovely 'Tom's looked after us so well that it was difficult to leave. He made us feel looked after and checked in on us repeatedly to ensure we were enjoying everything.<br/>He also chose the most delicious wine for me - the kind that I haven't tried before. It felt like an adventure.<br/>The food was lovely too. My friend and I shared a tasting platter and I had the steak. Both were delicious. I'll continue to visit when the service is this good.

We're tring out all the restaurants in the neighbourhood since moving in a few months ago. Tom Tom has got to be the worst so far. The stars are for the ambience, it's a gorgeous rooftop location and feels fantastic on a nice day, but it ends there. The food is terrible, and I have no idea how they even thought they could charge the prices they do for crap they put out. <br/>The children's menu was pathetic, my kid got a small pile of spaghetti with some uncooked tomatoes mixed through, slopped on a plate for $12. Could have at least made it look appetising! Was horrible to taste. We had a group of 7, all the meals looked like pub fare with no effort to make it look presentable. The only good thing about this place is the criss cut fries, which we ordered 3 baskets of as that's all anyone ate. <br/>Entrees are also delivered when your mains come. I don't understand what TomTom is trying to do, but it's failing miserably, which is a shame cos it could have been bloody amazing in that location. Very disappointed and won't be back - ever.
Debbie King
Loved the experience. Great food and service. Have already recommended. Well priced. Everything arrived on te and in the order requested. The deck provides spacious dining and is not crowded as so many other are. The staff a more than helpful but not over bearing. The menu is explained clearly. Would DEFinitly visit again

Just had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever.<br/><br/>Entrees arrived at the same time as the main and when we questioned this the waiter said 'well I can put them to one side but they'll just get cold". A waitress smashed some glasses over our table and then took 20 minutes to clean it up. It took us 40 minutes and a visit to the bar to actuality get a drink at the restaurant, and I'd like to say the food made up for it but it was bitterly disappointing and overpriced!

We went there yesterday to give Tom Tom a go. Atmosphere great, price is high if you consider this place a bar but low if you consider this place fine dining. The extremely nice atmosphere makes other fine dining venues jealous.<br/><br/>However, the food was literally the worst I have ever eaten in my life of 30 years. Everything there is great. The chef is where the problem is.<br/><br/>1. Taste. Honestly, I think the chef really doesn't care at all about how the food tastes. I am a very very salty eater. People's eyes get wide opened when they realise I have salted my roasts for over 2 minutes. Yet despite that, when I tasted the chicken main, it felt like I was punched in the head with its saltiness. It was sore! There was a funny smell that kept lingering around and the moment my partner tried it, she spat it out and said she wouldn't even give this to her dog. Salty and very putrid taste is the theme of the chicken main. <br/><br/>My partner had steak. The chips were amazing. One of the best chips I have had as well as the egg. But the steak inside looked very blackish grey - not brown. I kept thinking this was because it may have been in the freezer for too long. It didn't look appetising and looked like it would hurt me if I swallowed it. It was off-putting and the taste wasn't really steak as I remembered but thought it was way better than what they call chicken.<br/><br/>2. Presentation. Now I am a guy and I typically don't care about presentation. But Tom Tom charges 'fine dining' prices at $25-$28 mains. Yet when the food comes out, it was literally small tiny fried pieces of chicken on top of some raw cabbage. Literally just that. My partner's steak was salted steak, some fries and an egg all minding their own business on a massive plate. They looked like planets on the solar system.<br/><br/>3. These are less serious items that we found not impressive but not bad either. $20 malibu cocktail didn't taste at all like it had malibu in it so we had to get them to make it again. Waitress didn't know the cocktails at all. We asked whether a particular one was sweet but she didn't know but kindly said she will get back to us. She also didn't know or ever heard of an entertainment card. All this stuff were OK.<br/><br/>Other than that, fabulous restaurant!

Went back to Tom Tom in January thinking we could give it a 2nd chance. Waste of time - bad service, sticky dirty glasses.. will never ever visit again.<br/><br/>December:<br/>We had heard of Tom Tom through the NZ Herald website and were quite excited when we saw the menu – we were even more excited when it came on the GrabOne website! After purchasing 2 vouchers to use with one another couple, we booked in for dinner.<br/> <br/>The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was outstanding! We had a round of drinks, bottle of wine and all 4 of us had 3 courses – using well over the $100 voucher per couple.<br/> <br/>There was one waitress who made this dining experience seem casual ‘pub like’ where I could compare comments made by her to what I would accept at a rowdy ‘uni bar’- Not at a restaurant where the bill was $300+.<br/> <br/>• When we wanted to order the bottle of wine after our entrees, the waitress asked if we had a tab going and when we replied ‘no’, she went on (and on) to comment that she works with ‘retarded staff’ and that ‘those retards are also her flatmates’.<br/>• When our mains were being served by a lovely waiter, for no reason she came up next to him to announce she has just ‘done shots over at the bar’ and then bounced away – not contributing any kind of service to our table at all.<br/>• The last comment infuriated our dining experience when she came to collect our empty glasses and told us she had to ‘carry 2 guys into a taxi after they spent $2000 at the bar on alcohol’.<br/> <br/>These comments were so extremely unnecessary providing the level of dining and service we expected and were very unprofessional.

Came by this restaurant for the first time yesterday, mainly for the dessert. The price was incredibly cheap at $5 each!<br/><br/>The environment was superb, and was a proper fancy restaurant.<br/><br/>Staff was incredibly friendly, and I mean ALL the staff were. The dessert looked amazing also, and is now my facebook cover photo.<br/><br/>Thank you for the experience TOM TOM!<br/><br/> Service: 5/5<br/> Wait time: 5/5<br/> Environment: 5/5<br/> Food Quality: 5/5<br/> Food Quantity: 5/5<br/> Price range: $35+ pp

What a lovely venue, but what a let down food wise. Had a staff Xmas lunch. 10 of us crammed onto a table suited for 8. Chowder was a joke.... Would have gotten better from a cup of soup mix. Steaks were bland and not cooked as requested. Fish was adequate but really - who serves leather jacket! Normally throw those ones back for the big fish to eat. Would not come back for a meal, but maybe for a drink.

Had Sunday afternoon lunch and drinks on the deck. Stunning weather and was the perfect place to be! Tom our waiter was exceptional - some of the best service I've ever experienced in Auckland. He was professional, attentive, friendly and very helpful. Our whole group were blown away by his service. We will definitely be back and I have no hesitation in recommending Tom Tom as a venue and Tom on his outstanding service and making it a memorable experience for us all!

This place is definitely a bar over a restaurant. Food quality is not great, had the Sirloin and asked for Medium. Half the steak was medium, the other half rare. Also lots of sinew on the steak which wasn't appealing.<br/><br/>Service wasn't great either, was given an empty glass for a drink which was sticky. Asked about what the shared platter contained, he answered by saying "it's just whatever the chef feels like putting on it each time, sometimes has this, sometimes has that". Not exactly selling it well.<br/><br/>Drinks were good, and the setting is nice. Again if you're after a place for a drink this place is fine. Food not so much though.

Have been here a few times now, although until lately have been here for the deck and drinks rather then the food/ service, it seems they had hired some inexperienced staff and not trained them properly, bar a few that always seemed to be fixing the mistakes... <br/><br/>BUT as of our last couple of visits, we are glad to say that things are definitely looking up for Tom Tom, service has improved, food has had a revamp and looks like management has taken a turn as well, I would say there still needs to be improvement as the newer staff still don't seem to know what's happening, but they have definitely stepped up, and I will not be crossing Tom Tom off my go to list yet (:

Had great experience here. Didn't even realise this place existed! Awesome deck, friendly staff, food was good; we had the Scotch Fillet and Tarakihi &amp; chips and they were great. The wine selection is also extremely impressive and extensive. Will recommend and definitely return.

My wife and I visited Tom Tom last Sunday afternoon to test the restaurant for a possible venue to host a large dinner and drinks for a function.<br/><br/>Lets start with the positives:<br/>The maitre de was courteous and seated us on an outside table immediately. The outside deck is set up very well with good seating, plenty of shade from the sun if required, and in general has a pretty good vibe to be able to chill out on a sunny Sunday afternoon. ( including a DJ playing old school tunes ) .<br/><br/>Now the not so positive things:<br/>Our experience deteriorated from this point.<br/>Soon after we sat down the entire table next to us decided to start smoking ( at no stage were told we were being seated in a smoking area nor were we given the choice to move tables )<br/>After trying to flag down our waitress we finally managed to get served after about 10-15 minutes.<br/>The waitress knew almost nothing about the details relating to the food on the menu, was forgetful and seemed to be having an out of body experience the entire time she served us.<br/>We finally received our "mystery meals" and to give credit where credit is due the chefs did a great job. The food was good.<br/><br/>Thankfully a new waiter looked after our table from this point on with no further issues.<br/><br/>The cost of the meal was about normal. <br/><br/>Summary:<br/>In summer - aim for a comfy seat on back deck on a sunny day - down a few cold drinks and listen to some old school tunes.<br/>I would suggest if you are going to eat make sure you ask the maitre de to locate you as far as possible from the smokers.<br/><br/>In my experience a restaurant is only as good as its worst waiter or waitress. I don't blame them for our experience, I blame the manager, management and chefs for not briefing and training them to a high enough level so no matter what request or question is thrown at them they can answer informatively and confidently.<br/><br/>I see Tom Tom doing well over the summer especially utilizing the deck, however, in my personal view if they don't pick up their game over the winter months ( when the deck can't be used as much ) the restaurant will struggle as they will be relying mostly on revenue from the restaurant rather than drink/food sales on the deck.<br/><br/>A similar experience to ours has been shared by other people we know that have visited Tom Tom for the first time. So our experience does not appear to be isolated.<br/><br/>You only get one chance to create a good first impression.<br/><br/>There are many good restaurants in Auckland that get things right first time, every time. Unfortunately Tom Tom did not in our experience.<br/><br/>I guess people will vote with their feet and wallets if the service does not improve.<br/><br/>Needless to say we didn't end up having our function at Tom Tom.

I went along as a guest of Media Works last Thursday where Tom Tom was the final destination (desert) to a progressive lunch. After already stopping at two other fantastic venues for entrees and mains Tom Tom did not disappoint and ended the day wonderfully. They set us up with a fantastic spot on their deck, the sun beating down. A really neat pop up bar was set up on the deck so we didn't even have to worry about going inside to order our drinks. Wow, the deserts came out on huge decorative platters and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the selection provided to us. Whilst our official function finished around the 6 o'clock mark a good crowd of us were so comfortable relaxing on the day beds that we forgot time with the DJ and drinks until about 10.30 pm. Can't wait to come back. I will be back for sure.

The new best hotties deck in Auckland!!!<br/><br/>I popped in with some friends after we visited The Taste of Auckland and we had the best Sunday section sponsored by the Cointreau garden party!!! Great vibe, great music, bar staff was very friendly, the cocktails were fabolous, DJ's were playing some good tunes. It was a perfect combination for a good Sunday afternoon and food didn't disappointed us, The Sashimi and Lime curried fish dishes are marvellous.

Friends and I went to dinner on Saturday night here.<br/><br/>It seems like the menu is hit-and-miss. The clams were slightly overcooked but another person had crayfish tails which looked fine. The mushroom salad was good, but the grilled fish had raw onion chunks on top. The dessert I ordered (creme brulee) was odd in that it was a over-salted ice-cream and the brulee was a too-firm mashed-potato consistency. But again, another person ordered a chocolate pudding which looked great.<br/><br/>The service was inconsistent and poor and this is what takes it from 3 down to 2 stars- waitresses did not know the dishes they were bringing out to the table; the waiter was unsure of the wines we had ordered; there were some near-spills as waitresses brought food in and out; we asked for water several times and it did not come out. I think the wait staff need better direction or guidance.<br/><br/>Potential to be a good casual bar but I would not recommend this as a restaurant.

We popped in for lunch on the deck yesterday. We ordered two drinks and waited.... and waited. We ordered our food, still no drinks. After asking three different staff to check on our drinks they finally arrived.<br/>By then our meals had also arrived and oh dear, not good. No serviettes, no salt and pepper so after the debacle with drinks I went off and tracked them down myself from the service area.<br/><br/>The food matched the service experience. We couldn't eat the Gnocci, it was swimming in an oily pool and the rocket salad was drenched in acidic vinaigrette. The saving grace was the presentation of oysters. Again though, their tempura batter was oily and too dense.<br/>Our dirty dishes and uneaten meals sat in the sun until we left, despite staff passing by many times.<br/>Staff are pleasant butI get the impression there's a lack of training and poor systems. With so many great restaurants in the area I definitely wouldn't recommend TomTom.

Went here because of the promotion on the Internet that they were doing a 1920's pop up garden party on Sundays in November. So went with a girlfriend, and we were seated on the deck. After awhile we realised the "pop up garden" was on the other side of the deck and it looked very average with artificial looking flowers and grass mat, white fence and some chairs.<br/><br/>But the sun was nice and hot, and we were in a good mood. I hadn't had lunch so ordered Caesar Salad. At $19 without chicken or pancetta, it was on the pricier side. When it came, it was beautifully presented but tasted very average and size was disappointingly small. I ordered a passionfruit and feijoa cider and then a Pinot Noir, all came down to $44. My friend only had a couple of Pinot Noir.<br/><br/>The service was fine, nothing special. The live singing was good. The decor was lovely, and the bathroom space downstairs is quite different and nice. This would've been an amazing spot if the food was great or the price was cheaper/realistic.

I went to TomTom on Saturday night.<br/><br/>Overall - I have to say our experience was O-K. The service was great and the environs pleasant - albeit the music was a little loud for a "restaurant" - but probably ok for the bar.<br/><br/>We thought that the quality of the food - was pretty good, but definitely not worth the money.<br/><br/>I ordered a ceviche starter - it was presented nicely and the taste was good - pricey at $19 - considering it was only three little teaspoon blobs on the platter. It was a similar fair for the main - I had the pork belly at $27, which tasted good but was only one, YES ONE, piece of pork belly around 10cm long.<br/><br/>As a group 4 we spent around $320 including wine. We left feeling hungry, and that we had not got good value. We don't mind spending that kind of money or more - but this definitely was not worth it.<br/><br/>I have to agree with Dain's comments - this place markets itself as a gastro pub - but charges 5 star prices.<br/><br/>I doubt I will go back again to eat - Libertines, Oakroom or Atico Cocina provide much better options on Drake Street.<br/><br/>And Dayna - if you read this - listen to your customers - I am not the only one saying your prices are too high for the size of portions you provide.

Generally I wouldn't write reviews but in this case I wanted to let others know how disappointed I was. My friends and I have a monthly lunch to catch up and I've never left so hungry or annoyed in all the years!<br/><br/>I arrived late to a lunch (as was working) with all my friends who had been there for 20 minutes - shocked to the fact they told me not to worry at all as it took 20 minutes and a reminder to get there wines. <br/><br/>When I ordered I asked for a main size meal of the scallops (they don't have many gluten free options either - even their fries have gluten (unheard of these days) and they brought out three measly scallops for $23 - I had also asked for a potato puree to go along with this dish so I had some carbs at lease and that came 10 minutes later - what was I meant to do, eat my potato as soup?! <br/><br/>The whole time we all just felt bad for the waitress who hadn't been trained by the looks of it, a young girl not knowing a thing about the food or wine saying 'dunno' to our questions and got to the point that we felt we were being kicked out as took our wine glasses away as soon as we'd finished the last sip - in one case one of the girls hadn't finished. She came up every 5/10 minutes, it was rather exhausting.<br/><br/>All in all left hungry and surprising annoyed - which I'm generally pretty easy to please when it comes to food and wine, I'm not that fussy, just appreciate decent-sized meals as well as a wine within at the very most 10 minutes of waiting. <br/><br/>A beautiful spot - just such a shame that not one of us will go back there to enjoy the sun on the deck which is super as the service and food was so disappointing.

Wanted to make an honest suggestion. Today we came to your restaurant for our team Lunch and some of us who are vegetarians ordered Battered Pumpkin Salad. Taste was good, not that great and quantity of the Lunch for that price of $20.50 is not worth at all.<br/><br/>Hey guys please don't disappoint the customer who value their money and the food. I expect you to make it at least a meal if it is not a king size big meal.<br/><br/>I would not recommend any vegetarians to come to you.

Every chocolate-loving woman in Auckland needs to experience the incredible "hot chocolate pudding" at Tom Tom. I treated myself today after seeing a picture of that dessert posted on the menumania facebook page. It comes with a baking punnet tipped on its side and the hot chocolate oozing out from inside the baked chocolate cakey-pud, all over the cherry sauce and little mounds of sweet tasty dust and preserved cherries. Oh boy. And it comes with a dollop of 'beer' icecream. It was so good! It'll set you back about $15 - worth every cent.<br/><br/>I knew what I was here for, so I preceded my 'main-event' dessert with a light main: a roast pumpkin salad that had the juiciest tastiest 'pan roasted shallots' - little purple-ish opaque gems of flavour. Plus rocket, pumpkin seeds, and crumbled feta. Now THIS was a salad with flavour. I reviewed a salad at Ironique Cafe last month which whilst very good, was missing a piquant note to its flavour. THIS TomTom salad had it. Sure, it was half the size and still more expensive... but today's salad had all the flavour I could hope for. A very high quality feta was the perfect blend with the 'black pepper balsamic'. I was definitely surprised by the quite small size... but I think I would rather have a small quantity of the very best tasting salad, than lots of a salad that was' very good' but not amazing. I think the high price pays for the high-end location, flashy venue, table in the sunshine, and excellent chefs.<br/><br/>Also worth mentioning were the excellent staff - warm, welcoming, and my waitress was bubbly, full of personality, and completed the excellent experience at Tom Tom.

I visited Tom Tom today for lunch with my partner - and it was terrible. We ordered two glasses of wine off the rather short list of availabilities. No faults here though. For our meal, were ordered the Beetroot Carpaccio, Fish of the Day, and Seasonal Vegetables as a side. The Beetroot was tasty - but very minimal (three slices, accompanied by some onion, and half a sprinkle of Feta). The Vegetables were terrible - reheated frozen Peas, with some semi-resurrected dried mint tossed in. No other veges in sight. The fish was the ultimate let down. Pretty much completely uncooked (still slimy and veiny on the inside), and cold. The size of the dish was also a let down considering the price. Needless to say, we would hesitate to return. A shame considering the wonderful location - I'll cross this one off the Christmas list.

I visited Tom Tom last night and can't wait to return. I loved the deck, can't wait to sit with a beer during daylight savings, that's definitely going to be the spot during the warmer months! I thought the cocktails were great, both taste and looks. Such a great location and design inside. I loved the look of the place. I will no doubt be returning.

Opening night and the worst experience in a long time. 7pm dinner with staff moaning about starting at 12pm and a snarky blonde idiot of a waitress. A free asahi on entry couldn't make up for a below average menu. After $90 for 3 plates we had enough food maybe for a small kitten. The place is confused, feels like an upmarket pub with 5 star menu prices with ridiculous serving sizes for this day and age. If you are after a good value experience this is not it! Sad we chose this place for date night.

There's something magical about dining with a bunch of carefully selected, enthusiastic foodies. On Monday, I had the pleasure of being a guest of Tom Tom at Zomato's foodie meetup. <br/><br/>The most interesting part of the night was the food-inspired cocktails that the conveniently named Tom the "cocktologist" conjured up for us. Tom's passion is unmistakable and at the very start, when he made a wine suggestion for me, I knew we were in good hands. The Lemon Meringue cocktail with limoncello, egg whites, elderflower and grapefruit was divine, eliciting both giggles of excitement and moans of pleasure. The Waldorf Salad cocktail wasn't to my taste but others seemed to enjoy the unusual drink and garnish. I confess, I'm not a fan of raisins and the strong celery flavour of the cocktail wasn't my cup of tea. The cinnamon rum cocktail was strong and comforting and something I would enjoy on a cold day.<br/><br/>The entrées were a flirt of things to come. Three morsels: wonton, pork belly and seared beef were presented on a black tile, to eat in any order we chose. It's hard to go wrong with pork belly, which came with TomTom's fresh interpretation of kimchi but for an entrée, the flavours needed to be turned up a few notches. Later we learned that the pickled cabbage was made only that afternoon so not the fermented, spicy kimchi that some of us were used to. The wonton had a familiar flavour of black vinegar. I use this a lot in my own cooking so it was nice to taste this here. The Angus seared beef was a lot like beef tataki and though tender, it looked strangely black and dry on the plate.<br/><br/>From the mains menu, we had chicken, steak, fish (and chips). The meat was all perfectly cooked, the steak a gorgeous shade of pink all the way through, the chicken white with a crispy skin, but the flavours I found lacking. The sage and onion dumpling that came with the chicken breast dish was tasty, but the rest of the dish was really boring. I'm not a fan of chicken breast so that may have been my bias. The entrée and mains in general were fine but there was nothing I would have to return for. I didn't feel that these dishes were the best this kitchen could do.<br/><br/>The show stopper was the amazing dessert platter which was a combination of two of two items on their dessert menu. From the marble-size toffee apples with feijoa ice cream to the self-saucing chocolate pudding with beetroot jelly, the desserts were clearly the most sophisticated items on the menu. It was a little weird sharing a plate with people we had just met, at first some of us were wiping our spoons clean between each mouthful but politeness soon went out the window as we fell in love with the dessert, lost our inhibitions and scoffed the lot.<br/><br/>The atmosphere at Tom Tom was warm and inviting and though the space is large, there are separate spaces making this great for groups. A box of blankets, couches, big umbrellas and plenty of heaters outside means that the huge deck outside can be used all year round. There is a view of the harbour bridge to the left and the Skytower to the right making it a good place for both locals and out of towners. Dayna the GM talked us through Tom Tom's story and offerings, answering every question we threw her way. They have a short food menu and an huge drinks menu which makes this gastro-pub a little more pub than gastro. The food is a range of typical English pub classics as well as a nod to Asian cuisine.<br/><br/>I might return to Tom Tom for a cocktail and dessert but there are places in the city with tastier and more interesting food.

Tom Tom Bar and Eatery is elevated above Victoria Park, affording northern views through the treetops, a quiet atmosphere that would have you second guessing that you were actually beside the motorway and a stunning view of the sky tower. <br/><br/>The plating of the dishes is at Tom Tom is beautiful, I wish I had the skills to make my dishes look this great! I attended a blogger meetup at Tom Tom Bar and Eatery and we were treated to a degustation menu of the following:<br/><br/><br/>Pork Belly w a house BBQ sauce and kim chi<br/>Angus Seared Beef w radish and Japanese mayo <br/>House made Wonton w black vinegar and truffle oil emulsion (that emulsion is amazing, I would love a bowl of it to dip chips in!)<br/><br/>Waldorf Salad Cocktail (Yes actually - and it was delicious!)<br/><br/>Sale yards Road Black Angus Scotch potato fondant with Worcestershire and mushroom sauce (Loved the mushroom sauce!)<br/>Chicken Breast w sage and onion dumplings, roast garlic and brussel sprouts in a pumpkin broth <br/>Tom Tom Fish on Chip w market fish in Asahi beer batter on a criss cut chip with tartare <br/><br/>Cinnamon Rum Cocktail (Very strong!)<br/><br/>Chocolate Velvet Pudding w raspberry puree, beetroot jelly, chocolate soil and cream cheese ice cream <br/>Feijoa and Apple Crumble w toffee apple, tamarillo puree, fresh Feijoa, coconut crumble and Feijoa ice cream (The Feijoa Ice cream was devine!)<br/><br/>Lemon Meringue Cocktail - my favourite of the three cocktails. <br/><br/>My highlight for the evening would have to be the truffle oil emulsion served with the Wonton, both the steak and chicken dishes and all the deserts including the desert cocktail!<br/><br/>Tom Tom Bar and Eatery have given us a reason to visit each night of the week as each night they have differing specials. Feel like a steak on a Saturday, $15 will get you one, or how about 2 for 1 mains on a Monday night?<br/><br/>For the full review of each individual menu item including photo's please check out my blog post: http://www.moveloveeat.com/2014/05/25/tom-tom-bar-eatery-review/

On a quiet street in the heart of the busy CBD, Tom Tom is the place to hang out for a quiet night in a place locals would rave about. The first thing I noticed when I walked in is it was incredibly warm and well-heated. Everyone was taking off their coats upon entry, so you're sure to be comfortable in the upcoming winter months. As well as a cosy pub-like area with assorted high tables, they also have a huge deck outside that spans a great view of the Victoria Park markets, Sky City and even a motorway that is close by. You feel like you're in the heart of it, without the dust and noise to annoy you while you're eating.<br/><br/>And the menu is most definitely suited to winter. Hearty, with a bit of Asian fusion to surprise you, it overall was cooked really well and served beautifully. To start, we were given cocktails in mason jars with a surprising amount of coriander (in fact, some of the other reviewers wondered if we were actually snacking on decorations that weren't intended for our consumption before the manager kindly confirmed it was a cocktail) and some raisins and walnuts on the plate. Nothing irks me more than walnuts that have been sitting out too long and have therefore softened and tasting decidedly unfresh, but they didn't fall into that trap so I was happy. <br/><br/>Then we started on the mixed entree platter. There was a bit of wait time between dishes as they came out, but I like to think that it's better they take their time to get something really good out to us than rush a dish out. The actual entrees you order when you're dining will probably be a lot bigger, but we sampled three entrees on beautiful black slabs at this Zomato Meetup. Firstly, from the left, there was a House Made Wonton with a black vinegar and truffle oil emulsion. The skin was very crispy, almost crackly, and slightly burnt but I kind of liked the taste personally. It was somewhat mishapen, which added to its charm. Secondly, there was some Pork Belly on a quaint wooden fork canape-style with BBQ sauce and kimchi. The kimchi was rather strong for my liking, but what I found especially impressive is they made it from scratch. Yes, it had been fermenting for months prior. I know that doesn't sound particularly appetising, but kimchi fans will be undoubtedly impressed by the flavour and the mastery displayed in this entree. Most importantly, the pork was melt-in-your-mouth good and I want the recipe for it. It reminds me of Chinese BBQ pork, but more tender. Lastly, on the far right, was an Angus Seared Beef with radish and Japanese mayonnaise. It had a very smooth texture and was rather cold so I couldn't taste any beef flavour. In fact, it was nothing like beef, and I wondered if I was eating some red tuna sashimi. If you like the texture and feel of raw fish, this is a treat, but if you're expecting any beef flavour then prepare to be disappointed. It tastes a bit like it's been cured in whiskey. <br/><br/>Their resident cocktologist, Tom, continued to impress that night with a concoction of assorted fine rums (including a 15-year-old one imported from the US) that you could sip through a cinnamon stick. He truly loves what he does and pours so much time into it (he started preparing several hours before we arrived!) and the creative yet sassy ambrosias he makes are testament to his skill and love. He makes cocktails an art, not just a haphazard mixture, from flavour to presentation. Everyone at the table highly praised his cocktails, which seemed to be on the sweet side. <br/><br/>The mains started arriving. First up was a Sale Yards Road Black Angus Scotch steak with potato fondant and Worcestershire and mushroom sauce. The mushrooms were surprisingly blackened and cooked golden until overly rich which threatened to overpower the steak in my opinion. However, the generous amount of Worcestershire sauce really lifted the steak's flavour so that was well executed. The steak is premium stuff that the bar staff could trace all the way back to the actual farm it comes from, all organic and high quality. The very very slight amount of fat made it go into the mouth beautifully.<br/><br/>The second main was a Chicken Breast with sage and onion doughy dumplings, a cube of carrot, some roast garlic and halved brussel sprouts all swimming in a mild pumpkin broth. I had several of these mains so I had ample opportunity to refine what I thought of each texture and flavour while people were starting to feel the onset of a food coma and were resting for dessert. My first impression was that it was an inordinately large plate with a very small dip in the centre so there was probably a dollop of main max. I'm not entirely sure whether this is the full size, but seeing as I polished off three of these by the end of the night, I'm hoping they'd just decreased the size out of mercy to us. The slice of chicken was rather tasteless, though very well cooked, but the skin of the chicken was beautiful. I felt the chicken could have been creamier, so this wasn't my favourite at all. The dumplings looked more like doughy meatballs, and were also disappointing as the sage was far too strong and you couldn't taste any onion at all. I think calling the pumpkin soup a broth is a bit of a stretch as it's quite watery and bland, but it and the carrot tied the flavours well together. The brussels sprouts were really good though, and the chicken skin beautiful. There's some poorly lit photos of this so you could see the actual colouring of the chicken and meatballs because my flash made them look eerily orange.<br/><br/>Lastly, we were spoiled with their specialty that I've always heard people recommending: the Tom Tom Fish and Chips. The fish is in an Asahi beer batter, and if you like Asahi beer then it's quite good but I disliked the strong beer taste which meant I couldn't taste any fish. Fish should taste like fish. The skin was also not crispy and rather chewy, which I didn't like. However, the market fish was definitely fresh-tasting and if it weren't for the modest beer overtone it wouldn't be too bad. The criss cut chips were amazing though! It's like eating a crispy potato waffle, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and oh so good. I fell in love with the chips which would be perfect for winter. Then again, potato is perfect for any time. Nom nom.<br/><br/>A new cocktail accompanied dessert, and it was thick and luscious like its inspiration: lemon meringue. With the innovative use of egg whites in a creamy thick foam highly reminiscent of meringue floating on the strong limoncello, it was a sweet nectar for those with a sweet tooth to indulge in. There was a sprinkling of cinnamon dust just to top it all off.<br/><br/>I think dessert was the winner for me. A giant platter to share between four or five, it had a soothingly warm Chocolate Velvet Self-saucing Pudding with raspberry puree, beetroot jelly, chocolate soil and a dollop of cream cheese ice cream as well as a Feijoa and Apple Crumble with toffee apple, tamarillo puree, fresh feijoa, coconut crumble and another dollop of feijoa ice cream. The hot pudding and the feijoa ice cream were standouts of not just dessert but that night. I really love warm cakes, and this was rich with chocolate and dusted with icing sugar and a forkful of sticky rich goodness that warmed your stomach (and dare I say, even cold hearts?). The feijoa ice cream was a light shade of green and deceptively innocent-looking but had an authentic feijoa taste and creamy texture. I wasn't a fan of the cream cheese ice cream because savoury ice creams mystify me, but it actually kind of worked and is incredibly creative. The toffee apples were small and deliciously succulent, and the chunky slivers of green apple cleansed your palette between greedy bites. If you don't like beetroot, the beetroot jelly's taste might not be to your liking, as Tom Tom doesn't skimp on ingredients, but jelly connosieurs will appreciate the firm texture and smooth consistency. I haven't been to a place that actively encourages dessert sharing, even though friends do that all the time anyway, so I felt this was a huge bonus.<br/><br/>With a huge venue in the heart of the CBD and happenings every night of the week and certain high points in their winter menu, Tom Tom is a great host for anything really. They have a space and a dish or drink to suit your every want. Standout foods for me was the criss cut chips, pork belly entree and feijoa ice cream.

Had an absolute blast at Tom Tom thanks to Zomato. Positioned perfectly within the hustle and bustle of the refurbishing Victoria Park, Tom Tom is a funky bar and eatery with a diverse menu and a great loyalty plan for the locals. They have a 'special offer' every night of the week and an outdoor deck area equipped with luxurious loungers, braziers and blankets. <br/><br/>From the moment I walked in I felt incredibly relaxed and the friendly staff made us feel right at home. Tom the "cocktologist" wowed us with his very intricately thought through selection of drinks. From a clever play on lemon meringue (with creamy egg white floating on Lemoncello) to a concoction of the finest rum in the world stirred and sipped through a cinnamon stick. - it was hands down the best cocktail experience I've ever had. <br/><br/>As for the food, I must say, I didn't have the highest expectation but BOY! Was I wrong. Every bite of every course was delicious. I embraced the Kiwiana inspired menu with open arms and was left well satisfied (and a tad bit tipsy) <br/><br/>Ok let's break it down. Highlights of the meal were - the delicious pork belly which sat on a bed of kimchi served in a mini glass jar. The pork literally melted in my mouth and the crunch of the kimchi gave it a nice textural balance. The garlic seared steak was (quoting my husband) 'THEE business!' Maybe not the best cut of meat nevertheless beautifully cooked. The fish and chips was simple but that's the best (the only) way to have it. I especially liked the ripple of the wave cut chips which soaked up all that salty goodness. <br/><br/>Ladies out there! I will give you 3 reasons to love Tom Tom <br/>1) the cocktails <br/>2) the dessert platter - it was art on a plate. The cream cheese ice-cream with chocolate lava cake and beetroot jelly was rich and divine. In contrast, the feijoa ice-cream and miniature toffee apples sprinkled with crumble gave it a nice fruity component. I would have personally preferred a sorbet in there somewhere but the slivered Granny Smith apples gave it the balance it needed. <br/>3) Friday nights from 6-9pm Tom<br/>Tom has a hairstylist/makeup artist in the lobby of the unisex bathroom for your service. I mean, how cool is that?! It takes the tradition ghd in the bathrooms to a whole new level. <br/><br/>Obviously, I can't write about every detail of the night and how awesome Tom Tom is - I guess you will just have to find out for yourself :p

I went to Tom Tom for dinner a few weeks ago; I recall it was a Sunday so there was only one other group of people eating when we arrived. I was a fan of their bright yellow chairs which looked surprisingly nice paired with the wooden tables. However, I didn’t really enjoy the big TV screens on the walls that were showing the sports channel (there was also a bar near the dining area); it did spoil the ‘fine dining’ atmosphere a bit. <br/><br/>We ordered bread & dips and steamed greens to start, the beef scotch and asahi beer battered tarahiki & chips as our mains, and shared a raspberry kiss cocktail and red velvet lava pudding for dessert. All of the courses came out quickly since it was a quiet night. There was a decent amount of bread which came with 3 ‘dips’ and the greens were bok choy. Both were quite nice, although the bread was a little boring (I suppose that’s why there were dips). My favourite part of the meal by far was definitely the criss-cross cut chips that came with my fish; absolutely delicious. The rest of the mains were nothing spectacular though. I did enjoy dessert, which was the perfect size for after our mains, and garnished with powdered Nutella! But don’t bother ordering the cocktail; it tasted more like an RTD than anything else.<br/><br/>Overall, it was a good dining experience, but I would probably only revisit to order more of those amazing criss-cross chips.

Looks like a trendy place but very odd, half is bar and half is restaurant - with giant tv screens showing MTV occupy the wall on the restaurant side and does spoil the atmosphere a bit. As it's approaching winter we didn't check out their deck which looks good for summer time. Most of the table ended getting their $15 steak (Saturday) special which includes their famous criss-cross chips and a bowl of salad. The chips were amazing, and the steak was cooked just how I like it. I had asked for medium when I ordered but was surprised the server didn't ask first or asked other people. However the steak felt lukewarm/cold, like it had been sitting around for a while :S The wait was also very long and just doesn't seen like there's enough service around when we wanted to order more drinks. Lastly I specified I wanted a tall drink for my spirit mixes and that didn't happen...
