Very friendly staff, very yummy the yellow dal. And lamb curry. Very good price Monday to Wednesday for dinner. Thanks
Jim Rafferty
This is the best Indian restaurant in Auckland. We have been here many times and always walk out 100% satisfied with the quality of the food. We'll order medium Indian hot next time. Thanks Ghazal you're great hosts. Regards Jim & Linda from Waiatarual

Really nice food and excellent service. Very good service and they deliver for free in the Glen Eden area. I have been going for years and find them to be a great Indian Restaurant. My favourite dishes are the Prawn Malabar and the Chicken Korma.

I am dairy free and the staff were very helpful in talking me through the menu and making my options clear. It made for a really enjoyable night without having to worry about dietary needs. Also the food was really good!!

Must say... food was fantabulous... no colouring, no extra sweetness... must try ..... 9/10 .... It's hardly to find any good restaurants in Auckland....

This place has authentic north Indian food without artificial colors, cream or too much oil. Its value for money and the service is good!!

We love this place - great value & super tasty + nice staff & owners! great family restaurant. Top Marks.

My wife and I went for lunch to this spot and ordered from their lunch special. The food quality wasn’t great and the taste was appalling. Great price but not great food. Would highly recommend the owners to have a chat with the kitchen staff.

We ordered Nargisi kebab which was not even close to the real Nargisi kebab. Lamb was dry and tasteless. Achari chicken was an absolute nightmare. The pieces of chicken was just dumped in the box with some bottled pickle you can buy from the supermarket. It was salty and very awful. The special chicken curry was not special at all. It was the opposite. For the first time in Auckland in a restaurant i saw a new coloured gravy with no taste. I am still wondering how can a chef execute such kind of dish. The mango chicken was sweeter than the mango lassi. Highly not recommend.

Curries always taste fresh and are delicious. Staff can make suitable spice adjustments. Meat servings in the curries are reasonable, better than most other Indian restaurants. Naan is always freshly made and great tasting.
Staff are friendly and happy to discuss meal choices. Service is fairly quick and consistently good.
Prices are reasonable and the lunch specials are good value, but the Monday - Wednesday dinner special (Curry & Rice for $10, excluding seafood) is definitely what keeps me coming back.
Easy to find parking in Glenmall or streetside on Captain Scott or Oates.
Highly recommend!

Came here with my partner for a last minute dinner. The wait was a bit long (but appreciate food is cooked to order if it’s gonna take long) we got to enjoy the atmosphere which was a bit awkward as they weren’t that busy (Monday night) our food arrived and was served over tea lights to keep it hot. Presentation and service was great but I found both curries to be kinda bland. LUCKILY they were only $10 so we may be back to try something completely different! Thanks
Belinda Peters
I got the Rogan Josh which is normaly a great saucy curry but the curry from here was like watery slop. Gutted that the curry was more like spicy water with onion than anything else. Not impressed.

The best part of our meal from ghazal was the Uber driver that delivered it! To say the curries lacked flavour & taste would be an understatement - the butter chicken was more like canned tomato soup and the lamb korma lacked any flavour whatsoever (not to mention the colour) and the beef special, was not very special at all. Will definitely not be a repeat customer!
Jodie Goodwin
A few years ago we used to go to ghazal every second week they used to be so good but after returning tonight we’ve discovered that the currys are lacking. The naans were delicious but the butter chicken was very bitter and not very tomatoey as I expected. Just feeling a bit let down
Michael T
Butter chicken sauce was very tomato-y. The naan bread was very very greasy and it tasted a little bland too. Wouldn't recommend to anyone ever.
Troy Anderson
My family and I were looking forward to a delicious dinner but unfortunately that was not the case. To keep this as to the point as possible; the chicken Korma and Madras from Ghazal were very unlike their authentic counterparts, being both taste and colorless. The third dish we ordered was the butter chicken, which tasted as though it had been cooked with a whole bunch of old coins.

I'm not sure what is going on with this restaurant but I'm sure they could do a lot better with repeat business if they lifted the standard of their food.
Cheree Alice
We ordered butter chicken and got a watery soup that was overly salty. It didn’t turn to water until it had sat on the plate for a few minutes. Pretty disappointed really.

My friends and I came here for a dinner on Wednesday night. Luckily they had 10$ sort of a deal night. Great range of most favorite Indian dishes in NZ.

Manager/waitress man guided us through selection of various dishes and the level of spiciness. With the best of manners and behaviour he took our order.

As a order we had good old butter chicken (one mild and one kiwi hot), chicken korma, lamb korma and something else (forgot the name of dish but contained tons of spinach - very cool). Butter chicken was real saucy yet tasty. Sauce was great, but chicken felt a little bit undercooked... Still eatable. I have read some other reviews of people complaining that there are small amount of meat pieces in their takeaways but wasn't problem for us (reason might be eating on spot). About rest of the food we got - no complaints. And one more thing, mango lasi is the thing so tasty..

On dinner deals price and performance ratio is very good and affordable for your wallet too. I do recommend this place for a casual dinner occasion with mates at the beginning of the week.

WORST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN AUCKLAND

For Starters, Chicken lollipop looked like the chicken had polio or some kind of disease. The rogan josh was absolutely Pathetic. The onions and tomatoes are not blended. Can cleary see them floating in the “water” they called gravy. The mutton pieces were hard. I know that mutton has to be hard but these were like stone cold like hard.

Not to forget the Taste, oh wait my bad THERE WAS NO TASTE. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING FOOD. Wasted $35 on this crap. Recommend the owners of this place to change the chef. NOT ORDERING FROM HERE EVER AND WON’t let my family and friends to do so too.
Aaron87lee
Nice place to eat or a great place to order take out. Tonight I ordered take out, one Chicken Korma that comes with rice and a Garlic Naan. Ordered mine medium and it was really good not too spicy. A very satisfied customer here.
$18.50 good price. Should feed at least two to three people.
10-15 min wait. Pop along I know I’ll be back for more :)
Garima Talwar
Came here for dinner with family for the first time and our experience was absolutely horrifying. Probably the WORST food served to us. The food was absolutely DISGUSTING with no dominant flavour. The curry was watery and the meat was off. Would definitely NOT recommend as the service was very slow as well. Ghazal needs to improve their food standards!
Adeel Ahmad
Must say this is one of the best restaurant i hv visited.Enviroment was very warm and comfy, service was excellent and food was also very exquisite and delicious..i would highly recommend it to everyone.
Alyssa Francis-King
Have ordered from here a few times, Good portion size, offers a kids butter chicken which my daughter loves. Delivery wait can be a little long, so make sure you order it an hour before you want it to arrive.
Geetanjali
We called to see if the restaurant could deliver to our area and the only good things I can say about this place is 1. The owner is an incredibly nice guy and 2. They agreed to deliver free of charge to us even though we were slightly out of the areas they deliver to. The food was below average and I wouldn't order from them again. We got the butter chicken and chicken saagwala. I feel that these two dishes are fairly consistent throughout all Indian restaurants however the two dishes we got was nothing like what we were expecting. The butter chicken tasted like chicken in tomato soup with no seasoning and the chicken saag tasted and looked like it was cooked with mainly onions instead of spinach. We haven't tried any of the other dishes so can't comment on whether we just happened to be unlucky with our choices but fair to say after our experience probably wouldn't want to give them another chance.
Rudratej Pandya
Very lethargic service , told us it will take 45 min, but we had to wait 1:15 and they were un apologeric about it

Worst service never visiting again
Fay Brown
The food is great! I love that this place has 10 dollar mains on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. My husband and I are regulars at this place and they are always providing quality food and friendly service. I only rated 4.0 because there are some times where we are waiting for a long time for our food to arrive at our table. But other than that, it's such a good place for indian food!

We live in South Auckland, and usually eat out a lot ..especially indian food. We were on our way back from a play in Glen Eden, and decided to have our dinner at Ghazal as we saw it on the way. The decor looked good and we were expecting the food to be as good ...So we ordered some Amritsari fish and chicken saagwala , indian-medium spicy. When we tasted our dishes, we were shocked ... the chicken saagwala tasted like boiled chicken put into tasteless spinach paste with lots of chilli powder.... It was definitely much hotter than any Indian medium spice levels I've tasted in NZ in the last 7 years I've lived here. When we complained to the staff, they were kind and offered to get it corrected and we agreed. The Amritsari Fish looked inviting but when we dug in, the taste of raw uncooked spices with an excess of turmeric hit us so bad, that we lost our appetite, but managed to stuff in the six small pieces with the butter naans (which were good) . We left taking the "corrected " chicken saagwala as a takeaway. Again, when we had it, it wasn't as appetizing either.

I ordered 3x curries to takeaway and thought I was getting a good deal as they were only $10 each on weds night. There was a long wait; 45-50mins which I thought was unreasonable for curry. However, I guess if the curries were made fresh this is understandable. I ordered 1 butter chicken, 1 beef korma and 1 rogan josh. When I opened the curries there was literally 5 to 7 pieces of meat in each of the dishes.I was utterly disappointed. I felt like I was eating curry SOUP. DO NOT ORDER TAKEAWAY. The wait time is way too long and is NOT worth the price that is paid. Perhaps this may be different if you dined in. Take caution when ordering off the $10 specials...
Craig Senior
Always enjoy their chicken kormas and butter chickens. Great value Mon to Weds with $10 Currys! Sometimes a little wait but totally worth it.
Foodie Chronicles
I have to say this is the worst Indian food I have ever bought!

First off I don’t appreciate paying $15 for basically just sauce and metallic tasting rice – struggled to find the chicken!! And the chicken we did find, did not taste fresh.
The butter chicken we ordered was way too salty, we could not eat it.
The mango chicken was sickly sweet and was hands down the worst mango chicken I have ever tried.
I hate giving reviews like this but if what we received on this night is any indication of their usual standard, I don’t see them lasting too much longer. Ended up having to go buy other food, what a waste of money.
Diogo Reck
Indian food is so tasty and fragrant, and Ghazal is no exception to that.

My lamb was good and the sauce was yummy, but I think the coriander could be fresher and more present in the dish.

Service is definitely something to improve. The staff wasnt very kind and left the place unattended most of time.
Hello Rosie
Tonight was my first time trying a paneer curry and on a friends recommendation, I took the plunge ordered the Paneer Butter Masala. The aroma coming from my takeaway bag had me drooling long before I got in the door and it took an enormous amount of self control to not dig in before I took a couple of snaps. The sauce was a beautiful balance of sweet tomato and hard hitting spice which made the paneer a welcomed mild accompaniment.

My Garlic Naan was light and buttery with the perfect amount of crisp around the edges. The Poppadoms tasted fresh out of the pan and had a amazing subtle after taste which left a slight warmth in my mouth.

All of the above for under $15 and everything was still piping hot by the time I got home. Even though the restaurant was quiet, the warm smiles and welcoming atmosphere made a cosy and appealing haven from the cold outside. Ghazal Indian Cuisine is a restaurant I definitely intend on visiting again.

We got takeaways from Ghazal tonight. Delicious food. Firstly, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful with placing the order. In fact, he even suggested a lamb dish off the menu instead of the one we initially ordered.

We got achari chicken tikka, lamb curry as recommended, chicken madras, keema naan and a butter naan.

Achari tikka was perfectly spiced and with a hint of mustard oil flavour and pieces of mango pickle, exactly how it should be. The chicken was tender. The dish was accompanied with a small salad and chutney. Both complimented the dish very well.

The chicken madras was unlike any "madras" curry you get in Indian restaurants. It was packed with mustard seeds curry leaves onions and coconut. The chicken in this dish too was delicate and flavourful.

Coming to the lamb, the dish was lovely. The taste of garam masala and ginger was quite prominent exactly as described. We asked for an Indian hot and it was prefect. The spicy lamb and creamy chicken curry made a great combination. No complains about the naans either. The keema naan was huge.

We will definitely be returning here.

I am glad that hereon I won't starve in Auckland. Great courtesy and scrumptious food. We totally relished the butter chicken and chicken tandoori. The best part is hospitality and friendly treatment given to us that would make us want to go here again and again. Not to forget the surprise discount that was offered. I will surely recommend this place to my friends for the food.
Giraffe&Hippo
Good curry :) nice and spicy but make sure you specify it as sometimes the do not ask.
Nice atmosphere with really cool curry bowl holders! I really liked the candles which kept the curry warm !
Got the chicken tikka masala, although the photo is of butter chicken.
All Right value for money but would be nice to come on the cheap $10 days.

By Giraffe
Food
The butter chicken was awful.. And so was the customer service
I almost called and complained, it was not butter chicken what I got served it was watered down literally to the point where the weird tomato juice shit they used all sat at the top of the rice and the watery red filtered through the rice and sat at the bottom
Nor did it taste anything like butter chicken .. I'm very disappointed and feel like I wasted my time.
It's sad because I also read all these reviews before I went there.

Tonight I ordered 2 mains takeaway, there was an issue with one of the mains so I called up to let them know. They were very apologetic and re made my main and delivered it to my house. So A+ for customer service and satisfaction. I really appreciated they took the time to fix the issue!! Thank you Ghazal!

Good food, good and friendly service. Well priced menu. Sometimes the wait time quite long during busy nights. Overall good place. We will definitely go back

Had family dinner here in Wednesday night, customer service was friendly and attentive, they were patient with the kids, the food was good value for the $10 curry special, kids had butter chicken which they demolished and what I was able to taste was creamy buttery and glad it wasn't too sweet, liked how they served the curry over candles keeping the food warm through out the meal, my sister had the beef korma which she was happy with and there was a good amount of beef, I had a vegetarian curry dumpling which I thought I'd try was happy with the meal and would order it again my only critic would be that I asked for medium but it was still very mild I may have to ask for Indian medium. Is a very good local curry restaurant and would recommend.

Better than the Titirangi 'indian' eateries so thats a positive. Food hygiene rating an 'A' so thats great too. Manager nice and friendly. Sofar so good.

Now to the food. Average. White mans 'indian', too sweet and bland for me.

For a cheap meal on their $10 curry nights cant complain, assuming of course they dont reduce the size of the meals on these nights like some seem to do.

I have yet to find a local 'indian' that is good enough to stop me from driving to Paradise in Sandringham from Titirangi.

Good food at a cheap price. Love their $10 mains. Butter chicken is good and the servings are excellent. Great vegetarian dishes too. Medium spice is very timid.
Nikki
Love this place!! Have been coming here since the start and have always had such lovely service. Staff are awesome and very welcoming. Always get takeaways and it's always delicious and on time. Love love love!!!
Jen
If I'd just had the chicken tikka tandori I would have given this a 5 but unfortunately their butter chicken let them down. It was still nice but not great - the flavour tasted a bit like it had a big dose of tomato sauce in it and not enough spice. The naan was good though. I'll be back to try some other dishes but probably will avoid my favourite butter chicken dish from here..

Only go to this place if ur really hungry. Haha :b I went with my sisters today and we ate so much that we got a food coma. It was soooo good! Will surely come back again soon. I also recommend getting the mango Lassi! U will definitely enjoy it :)

My partner's parents expressed their interest to give Ghazal's Indian Cuisine place another chance, after a bad dining experience few years ago. As we came in, there were lots of tables you can choose from. Nice wall hangings of Indian gods and goddesses, but could have done much better with the overall ambience so people feel at home and cozy.

When we sat down, we saw this poster on the other side of the glass wall, saying that all mains except seafood are only NZ$10 every Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which was really a bargain. What I noticed about the chairs is that they are surprisingly comfortable to sit on, even when it's made of wood. The back rest was wide enough.

Upon seeing the menus handed by the server, I noticed how clever they had it sized specifically. I also noticed this beautiful table runner, I had to take a picture of it as it was so colorful.

Both Mum and I had Butter Chicken for main. As this was my first time coming here, I chose the one most familiar to me in case it will not be a good experience. What's interesting when the attendant served the mains to us was that the intricately designed Indian bowl with the main on it also came with a big candle holder to keep the meal warm, which I thought was a great idea. This is the first time I've seen it in the years we've been to Indian restaurants, and I truly commend them for that.

Also, the taste of the curry was really tomatoey and sweet, not much coconut milk. Mum reckoned it's the best tasting curry she ever had, and it's what Butter Chicken should be. Heaps of chicken pieces, which with other restaurants where coconut milk is added to some curries, there's not much pieces, so another thumbs up.

Dad had hot Chicken Vindaloo. Wasn't sure if he got it medium hot or Indian hot. He always likes his meal, whether it's outstanding or just okay.

Now about the rice. Most Indian restaurants we went to served with more or less the same-size bowl for rice as with the mains. However, at Ghazal, you can have a very big bowl of rice, which I was very, very happy about simply because I love rice.

I had Garlic Naan with it, while it was Plain Naan for Mum. Mum didn't like her naan as she preferred it to be not so oily, which I agree. Mine looked oily as well, but I still ate it.

My Mango Lassi though was delayed a bit after we started eating, even when I had mentioned it to them prior, so I asked one of the attendants again. But it was no biggie, simply an observation.

It was a very good night overall. Despite the small things we noticed that were a bit off, we would love to come back another time.

Nothing bad to say about this place, yet nothing great to say about it.

I have dined here twice ordering the same mild Butter Chicken. The price was great at $10, when normally you receive it at the mall for $14.50.

The first time I went there my butter chicken was decent, I'd say a 6/10, the second time I went there my butter chicken has a light bitter taste to it, not to bad, still edible.

The service is always great, greeted with a smile and acknowledged straight away as well as menus given an orders taken. They always ask us how our food is whilst we eat and once finished they take away the dishes.

All in all, a decent place to eat.
Emily
Ghazal is excellent value, consistently good Indian food - this is my favorite choice for takeaways, especially Mon - Weds for their $10 meal deal. The staff are friendly and its also a nice place to linger. I've never had a bad meal here!
Christina Jesson-Grigg
My family have visited this restaurant many times and we have never been disappointed. The food is wonderful and the staff are friendly and professional. It is also very good value for money. I am happy to recommend this restaurant.
Nick
Food is good (but a bit more herbs and meat would not go a miss here).
Service is satisfactory.
Pricing is fairly reasonable on the discounted evenings (Mon thru Weds).
All in all, meeting my expectation, but nothing that really sets this restaurant apart from others.
Sean Murphy
Went into Ghazal last Friday and ordered two butter chickens & a couple of naans to takeaway. Just came back from the kids soccer so had the wifey & 4 kids waiting in the car. The restaurant wasn't overly busy so I was surprised when they advised my order would take 35 minutes. When my order hadn't arrived after 35 mins I inquired how long it would be and was told not much longer, after 45 mins & getting slightly impatient I again asked the staff how much longer & a staff member rudely muttered something & went into the kitchen to find out. Finally 55 minutes after placing the order my food arrived and was certainly not worth the wait & average at best and compounded by a teachy family having spent nearly 1 hour sitting in the car waiting for their Indian food.
David Dawson
Went here September 2nd and was the second time. Asked for medium butter chicken and got a no flavour mild butter chicken, when I told the waitress she told me I should of ordered a Indian medium not a kiwi medium!! What a poor excuse, but it went well with the metalic tasting rice and the overcooked dry samosa along with the $4.00 flat coke served from a 2 litre bottle. Also our other curry was poor. I eat out a lot and have been a chef for more than 20 years and I do know good food and crap. Go to a food court instead of here.
Davey B
We have been to Ghazal many times now, food is wonderful and the staff a delight. This is my wife's favourite Indian restaurant and we will be dining here again very soon.
Try a traditional Indian beer or BYO wine, this restaurant is also in the Entertainment Book.

We have eaten at Ghazal several times now, taking advantage of their great value $10.00 mains on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as their takeaway service. The food has been outstanding with distinct subtle flavours and good portions. Attentive waiting staff. Serving times are slow - don't go to Ghazal if you are in a hurry, rather enjoy the experience, take a companion with whom you want to relax and talk, or a book! Great value dining.
Simon Walker
Good food, but service is very slow.
Neil N
Excellent Indian cuisine. This was a stand-out for me in Glen Eden which has a number of Indian restaurants and a significant Indian community. The fresh ingredients in each dish allowed you identify and taste each, but also savour together with the flavour of the combination. Excellent service. Slightly longer wait for meals because each is made fresh rather than just assembled from prepared sauces and curries. Worth it for that flavour! A helpful owner-chef who is clearly an enthusiast and proud of his work. Pleasant clean warm atmosphere. Excellent value. Recommended!
Andrew Philson
Our family of 4 visited this restaurant for the first time last night after buying an on-line voucher. The meals were delicious and generous and a small wait time for the entrees (Samosa) was explained as they are cooked fresh. We ordered the meals as "Kiwi hot" which was just right. The staff are very friendly and attentive to your every need. If I worked in the area I would be buying their special lunch menu. We will be going back there as we think this is one of the best Indian restauarnts in town (and we have beeen to quite a few).
Rhys Walters
This is a great local Indian restaurant in Glen Eden which we've been to about 6 times in the last year. Their food is consistently good and - in contrast to other restaurants - is made fresh and to order by genuinely talented chefs and is served with a smile. Just remember to order "kiwi hot": don't go lower to kiwi mild, and don't get cocky and assume you can handle "indian mild" :) They are licensed but also allow BYO wine. Extra star for the price.
Melina Amos
I ordered a mild rogan josh and it was terrible. Almost no flavour in the curry. Far too many onions. It didn't taste like a curry at all. And I will never go back. The delivery took a very long time also.

Today was the first time I had lunch at Ghazal, not only are they affordable. But the quality of their food was absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere was both warm and inviting. The staff are helpful, and have a lovely manner about them..

My husband and I popped into Ghazel one Sunday for a meal 2 years ago, we found the Staff to be wonderful and freindly, fantastic service and the menu mouthwatering Indian cuisine made with fresh ingredients to taste.

Since then we are regulars and go there for our Sunday treat. It is the only Indian Resuarant we go to now.

Charmain & Dennis

We are always on the look out for authentic Indian restaurants, and last weekend were at home and simply could not be bothered leaving the place, so did some research online to find somewhere that delivers. Not having a copy of the menu, we rung and were greeted by a very friendly lady who explained a few things from the menu for us and was patient and helpful. Our meal didn't arrive when they said it would, but when we phoned they were regretably sorry and promised it wouldn't be far. When it did arrive, brought to us by a man who was very well presented, he apologised again with absolute sincerity and had even provided some complimentary poppadoms. When we actually sat down to eat the food, it was INCREDIBLE. Their naan bread - probably the best we've had ever! But everything was so delicious, authentic and we will most certainly be ordering from Ghazal again. Thanks guys, you've just won an ongoing customer. Thumbs up :)
Alexis Williams
We had Butter Chicken, rice, garlic naan and onion bhaji. The naan and bhaji were really nice, the butter chicken was tasty but very wet. It made the rice really soggy so I was quite disappointed. I won't buy butter chicken again from here
Sarah James
My partner and I went here for the first time tonight. We just moved to Glen Eden and were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a great Indian restaurant. However, it turns out that the food at Ghazal is the best that we've had in Auckland! Everything was delicious, the staff were excellent, and we had a great night. What a relief to have amazing Indian food right here in Glen Eden!
Tanya
This is a local restaurant that we go to on regular occasion's for family get togethers. The staff are very friendly and efficient and we are always well looked after. The food is beautiful and with perfect sized portions, highly recommended! It is always a pleasure to go back.
Lynda Finn
Ghazhal is run by great people; very friendly and efficient. I've eaten in and I've had food delivered and the meals have always been delicious and generous,
I can't speak too highly of their helpful service and wonderful food.
Ghazhal is actually a 6th century form of poetry - a great name for food which is a poem in itself ;)
Claire Hamilton
Popped in tonight on our way home from work as they were offering $10 mains sit in or take away so we sat in. Very friendly and polite service. We got some poppadoms, dips and veggie pakora to start. Big tasty portions. I then decided to try the Paneer Butter Masala which was delicious. Even got enough for tomorrow's lunch as well :) We'll definitely be going back and supporting this local business. Thanks Ghazal for a lovely meal.
