Review Denny's - Auckland Central

Karl Rock
Every time I visit I order the Superbird Sandwich (Bacon, Turkey, Tomato, Cheese) with Fries. You can’t beat it. The restaurant is tired, but the food quality is still good.
Ngo Matés
It's ain't fine dining but it ain't kaka, very middle of the road. Probably a bit more expensive than it deserves to be but I've been to fancier places that have had worse food and service so 🤷🏾‍♂️

Read the reviews before coming and most said hit and miss so decided to go anyway since we were hungry and wanted something more than the usual. Our drinks came out first, followed by our food. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. Ordered the satay chicken on rice, snapper & chips with Buffalo chicken. Satay chicken had lots of flavor, especially the sauce. Snapper was so fresh and tender. Great portion of golden crunchy chips. Dessert hit the spot fullfilling our chocolate and ice cream desires.

Huge portion at an affordable price. Great services. Highly Recommend

Seniors menu is good value, good quality, and tasty. My steak was nicely done and tender . $27 not bad for a good meal. Staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back!

We visited one night for desserts, we were a large group of 15 people and the staff were quick to seat us on a large table fit for us. Went in for the classic hot fudge cake like old times… staff were prompt and got the desserts in a timely manner. The hot fudge cake was so yum 😋

Dessert was amazing~ Satay chicken, snapper and chips were great~ the Buffalo wings needed more spicy sauce to add flavour to compliment the sour cream other than that WAY BETTER THAN MANUKAU DENNYS! Staff was available to cater and best to go around 8.30pm
Thea C
Love the Beef T-Bone Steak. Other dishes are great. Highly organised place. The staff here sail through happily even when hit by a tsunami of customers on a Friday evening.

After a terrible experience at the Manukau branch it was refreshing to have a pleasant meal at the Highland Park restaurant. The staff were lovely and the food came out quickly but freshly cooked. Food quality isn’t great but not terrible either. A good meal when you just crave breakfast in the afternoon.

Haven't been to Denny's in years, but the kids really wanted some dessert after dinner. Came at 8pm on a Friday, waited 7 mins to be acknowledged and seated. The restaurant was fairly busy, so I was dreading the long wait for my dessert. Luckily it came 10 mins after ordering. The welcoming service is lacking
Krishnakumar R
Excellent customer service. Delicious food , better than other outlets. Seats could be more spacious.
Martin Iusitino
At the time we went it was quiet, which is probably the norm. The burger was bigger than I thought so I was wrapped, plus the curly fries are really good.
Divya Jyoti Saldanha
Its our go to place every weekend at 3am when all the resto are shut down. Yummy pizzas and the best varieties of desserts served here.

Denny's is in Auckland near highland park. I ordered a choice of bread and that was very nice. The ketchup was brought together, everything waa just perfect.
Robyn Chaplin
firstly my husband and I ordered 2x entrees and 1 main to share.<br/>The main was served with the entrees, so the main was cold when we got to eat it. We also ordered potato mash instead of chips, but the plate had chips on it.<br/>The nachos my son and I had were very stale, and tasted terrible.<br/>We will never come back to Denny's again, cos when we told the waiter, why did they all come out at once, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.......

Even though this is just typical American diner food. I really enjoyed having the options to have dessert for breakfast.

Very welcoming & friendly staff. Clean tidy place. Superb menu easy to read, pictures & prices clearly marked. Made it very easy to choose. Chose their BLT & my top favorite at Dennys- their Curly fries! Always enjoyed their Curly fries & perfectly done every time. Very pleased. Was offered a choice of bread & that was very nice. Courteous staff were knowledgeable & easily guided me to the best choice including drinks menu. Meal order was presented perfectly, drinks first & in a short while afterwards the lunch item arrived. Meal was at best temperature, sauces & meats we're perfectly combined. The ketchup was brought together, everything was just perfect. Very pleased to see the paper napkin was a truly generous size & not tiny at all. Bonus points to Dennys just on that minor but really important detail. The tables were neat clean & tidily arranged with menus, etc. An excellent experience to have an afternoon lunch at Dennys once again. Very good value for money, excellent Chef & staff very pleased to see you maintaining the standard so we'll. Yes the washroom was also very clean & tidy. Overall just perfect! You deserve full praise for a well maintained superbly run operation. Well done Dennys.

Polite & friendly staff. Food was above average but way better than Manukau Denny’s. As a local, I do enjoy a nice grub after a night out and this is the place to go.

Had dinner here with my partner. Great service, good family atmosphere. The sizzling chicken had alot of onions in the dish but overall was good. Big portions as well. I personally liked the sandwich the most.

This is not only the worst Denny’s but the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. Took over an hour and a half to get our order and when it finally came it was cold and very badly cooked. They offered no service whatsoever. No water. Not even cutlery. Whoever is managing this place needs to pick a new career.
_foodfanatic
Decided to go for breakfast after a long time. The only thing that’s actually good besides the dessert. But was kind of disappointed the food was so oily. Even the pancake was so oily . The hot chocolate was amazing as always . The portions was excellent however found everything very oily this time.
Priscilla Nemani
Waited over an hour and a half for our food to arrive. Other people had received their food, eaten and left by the time our food arrived. Disappointing as I came with a 6yo and 2yo and they were over waiting and I was over trying to keep them occupied.<br/>When the food finally arrived, the kids food was almost cold. I ordered a patty melt with curly fries and they brought out normal fries instead.<br/>The nachos we had ordered had stale chips. I went to the counter to ask for another batch of nachos with fresh chips and one of the workers cut me off and asked "do you want a refund?" I said "no, I'm hungry, I want to eat this but it doesn't taste nice" so she went to get another batch.<br/>The second batch of nachos we received tasted just like the previous batch so we requested the refund.<br/><br/>Many things that disappointed me here. The slow service (considering they were not too busy), the incorrect order, the cold food and the quality of the food.<br/><br/>What is a shame is that the worker that cut me off asking for a refund did so so suddenly as if it's a common thing to happen at their restaurant.<br/><br/>So sad to say, I'll never come back here again.
MariaToday
We were the only customers in the restaurant, yet it took very long for anyone to come and seat us. Once seated, we were once again left waiting for ages, finally had to wave and call someone over to take our order. The waitress was cold, distant and all around unpleasant. Food tasted fine, but looked quite sloppy as if no time or thought had gone into the plating process.
Jen Matautia
We ordered burgers with curly fries. There was probably 4 curly fries in total. Burgers lacked taste. Could barely taste or see bacon. I think they ran out of stock, either that or someone who ordered the same meal got my other half lol
Maree Tredrea
Staff were not freendly acknowledging us with a hello didnt even happen service was slow taking our order and 40mins before it wad delivered to the table it was not busy. Will we go back NO.
Sam
I should’ve read the reviews before coming here. Unfortunately they’re all true. The only reason why I’m giving it 3 stars was because the service was excellent. As for the food. It’s pretty bad. My wife ordered the Garlic and Herb Chicken and I ordered the lamb shank with a side of curly fries. Unfortunately my wife’s garlic and herb chicken was a little tough and my lamb shank wasn’t a lamb shank. It was pretty much a bone with a very small amount of meat on it. The curly fries were very oily and as we got to the bottom of the basket. The bottom half was crisp and burnt. Won’t be back.

Well what can I say about Denny’s highland park the only good thing was the super fast a friendly staff in saying that the food was sub par and the cokes yes I had more than one because I wanted to know if they were all going to be flat plus pice was not worth the food won’t be going back again sorry.
Munirah
The service is amazing! Every time we come here, the waitresses are lovely and very helpful. The strawberry milkshake and curly fries are also super delicious ❤

We came here Thursday night because Manukau had a ridiculously long queue. We were attended to and immediately seated by the staff. We ordered food was great and staff were friendly, apart from waiting for the steak knife for the steak was a great experience. Manager was always checking with patrons if they were ok! Awesome!
Nicole Havea
Took over 30mins to get a table when there were so many available. Not only that but our food came 50mins after ordering, not to mention our entree came with our mains which was disappointing!! Speaking from experience.. been here 4 times and it’s the same thing.
Kane Welsh
Being as polite and friendly as possible, the food was terrible, our medium rare steak was brought on a hot plate and kept cooking past medium rare.<br/><br/>Our appetisers or entrees were delivered at the same time as our mains, and for a table of 7, it’s no wonder there was no room on the table.<br/><br/>The service was mediocre at best, and the wait staff could be seen standing around talking at their station whilst we were trying to get someone’s attention.<br/><br/>There was no service with a smile. From the moment we walked in the door the waitress looked less than pleased about having to take down a divider to seat our party.<br/>It’s a good thing we’re in New Zealand and they aren’t working for tips...<br/><br/>When we were all finished with our mains and waiting to order dessert no one came to clear our table, and I am reluctant to believe they would have cleared our plates before dessert if we hadn’t moved them to an empty booth nearby.<br/><br/>Needless to say, I won’t be dining here again.
Miss M
Came here to reminisce on my younger days. Excellent service as usual. We ordered the surf and turf steak and the sizzling chicken. While everything tasted really good the steak was a bit cold and overcooked. The thousand Island dressing didn’t really go and the carrots were too soft. The chicken on the other hand was delicious, well seasoned and Thermo-nuclear hot. :) will definitely order that again. Pricey for a diner, but it is what it is.
MrGodHimself
Terrible quality food. If you have the misfortune of coming here avoid the steak at all costs. It was soggy and dripping in blood.. tasted like it had been microwaved.<br/><br/>I like my steak rare so it doesn't bother me if it's pink... but the outside needs some crust like it's been cooked with some heat, not watery and no colour like it's never hit the surface of a pan/grill. They also didn't let it rest so it was dripping with water and blood. So gross... the mushroom sauce ($3.80 extra, on top of the overpriced $27 already!) tasted like packet gravy with sliced mushroom. Everything was so gross, like a child's cooking lesson gone wrong.<br/><br/>Service was actually quite friendly. I feel sorry for the waitresses as she was a nice lady and probably has to deal with numerous complaints per night considering what the kitchen is sending out.<br/><br/>Extremely overpriced for the very low quality.
Cuisinestodiefor
Denny’s highlands park is cool :) the staff is very friendly and responsive. As per my date their oreo shake is the best. Loved the food. The salad dressing on the other hand (not a big fan) i wont rate down a restaurant just cuz of a salad dressing though :) still a great family restaurant overall. Compliments to the chefs and the floor staff :)

I like coming here to be served its so friendly the staff. Greet u seat u and not long after take yr order bring out drinks all in a timely manner then before uno it foods on its way out they check on u ask u how's the food if you need anything else and dessert 🍰 🍧🍨🍩🍦🍮is always a treat I like it at Dennys worth the money 💵
Kimi.marsters
Really used to like it here but I did take into consideration it was valentines night and still gotta say very poor service, not coming back to this joint.
I_like_pickles
Just came here for a cuppa. The coffee and hot chocolate was average. For the price they have on the menu for a hot beverage, you're better off getting one from a fast food restaurant.<br/><br/>We were going to grab something off the dessert menu but from our past experiences at Denny's the desserts are not worth passing your tongue or your stomach space.

My husband and I go to Dennys regularly for breakfast. On a weekday you can't beat $10 for the good start breakfast or the french toast (including hot drinks). The portions are large and we struggle to finish each time. The bottomless filled coffee is also great value. Service is always attentive and friendly. Decor does need a bit of an update but it's Dennys; it has been here forever and is almost an icon. You get what you pay for, you're not expecting a champagne breakfast at the Hilton when you come here. Thank you Dennys for being consistent in my books!
Hotdog&Buns
Came in the evening and it wasn't very busy. <br/><br/>The interior design is meant to resemble some kind of classic American diner but the tables and chairs look very old and worn out. The color scheme makes the whole place look dirty; could really use some work. <br/><br/>Service wise; the server was very attentive and always checking on customers. Food took longer then expected.<br/><br/>I ordered the honey chicken and it was cooked perfectly. The chicken was tender and the honey sauce had just the right amount of sweetness with a hint of savouriness. Definitely could taste the honey flavor. The sides were decent. Presentation could improve.<br/><br/>Not impressed by the price, hence only a rating of 3.<br/>I think the only things worth the price are their breakfast or dessert items. The rest are a rip off.<br/><br/>Overall an OK experience. <br/>

This is a go to place for my best friend and I. The food offers a good alternative for mc Donald's ect however it is overpriced. However their curly fries are always made perfectly, almost makes it worth the extra $2.60. I had the mushroom burger and my favourite dessert ever is their peanut butter chocolate lava! It's honestly the greatest. Moist chocolate cake with gooey peanut butter in the centre all served with a generous amount of vanilla ice cream. I could really eat this stuff everyday I love it. <br/><br/>However the customer service could use some work, the waitress seemed to pay more attention to her co-workers than to her customers, and her attitude spoke louder than her words, she looked very unimpressed and uninterested is the people she was serving
Stevejohnson95
If 0 was an option that's what they would've got, went for breakfast and the service was terrible, the food took for ever and to our surprise the eggs weren't even cooked, both meals were sent back so we had to wait another 10 minutes, the portion sizes were a lot smaller than they usually are, 2 small bits of bacon, the hash brown was terrible, soaked in oil,not cooked and really small, a real disappointment, wouldn’t recommend anyone go here unless your interested in getting sick or ripped off!!
Tiatamati
Not worth the amount of money you pay. Over priced for what you get, won't be going back unfortunately. This place used to be good, but maybe it's under new management since I was last there. 1.5 because my kids liked the curly fries.
Juanita Angell
The food was  disgusting! I ordered shrimp cocktail and a few chips. The shrimps were passable about 10 on the bed of salad. The salad was not edible, the lettuce was at least three days old brown on the edges  and not crisp. The chips were not hot and I gave them to others at the table. The cost of this was $18.50. I spoke to the waitress and asked her to show the manager she went away and came back and offered to give me a free dessert,I did not accept the dessert as I felt that if things were that bad in the kitchen you would no know what you were getting.

I went there with my friend. We ordered the millennium burgers and Vanilla ice cream with chocolate brownie. My friend was really liked them, for me not so much.
Christine Nand
I've been here before I don't really like the food😝. <br/>Dessert is okay , they need to work on flavor and change things up , last time I went food wasn't to great . Need to change things up food wise 😎

Didn't take too long to be seated (3-5 minutes). Was given menus. We were ready to order within a minute, but took a while for a waitress to come take our orders. Had to ask someone to come over to take our order. Got all our meals fairly quick. Except one, which was he cheapest meal (chicken pie meal - $8). Had to get up once again to ask when the meal will be arriving. I ordered the Nasi Goreng & in all honesty, I felt it was completely bland and I couldn't finish it. No amount of salt and pepper could save the dish. Hot fudge cake cake out with ice cream already semi melted. Not a good experience tonight.
Neelam Chandra
Over-priced and below average food served here. Food tastes artificial..and the wait for the food takes far too long as always. Can't even get water without having to wait 20 mins.
Peter
I had breakfast here today. The sausage tasted funny, a bit sour and it was cold in the middle. Fingers crossed that I don't get food poisoning from it. Ordered a kids tomato juice and was given the spicy kind. I wish I was told about that when I order. <br/>The rest of our food was fine. <br/>Waitress was friendly. Facility was reasonably clean. There are a few coin operated arcade games to keep kids occupied.

Denny's is a classic. I can't say it's my favourite place to go for dinner but it certainly offers a unique diner option that Auckland ever so lacks. <br/><br/>The star of the show however is their Hot Fudge Cake. It's a crime to visit this place and not order the aforementioned blessing. <br/><br/>Two moist chocolate cake pieces filled with a generous amount of classic vanilla ice cream and this sweet sandwich is drizzled with chocolate sauce. Accompanied with whipped cream and cherries, this dessert is a must do on every visit.
Daniel
Ive been here a few times and I can say the food is good. Just like any other Dennys restaurant but the waiting time is quiet long too just like the Manukau Branch. Definitely would go back.<br/><br/>I only order the millennium burger everytime lmao
Shelley
Dined here yesterday. Arrived just after 11am with my man of the house and our one year old. Waitress showed us to our table and asked if we needed the highchair. We said yes...and we never saw it. Meals took just under an hour to come out. The table opposite us had been waiting 50 minutes for their order. Food was just OK. Man of the house said Fish n Chips were super greasy. I had Fettuccine, which was just OK. When we did see the staff, they were polite, but I don't think we will go back. Felt like we were forgotten about, not ideal.

First time coming here for breakfast and it's probably a place I would go once every few months. <br/><br/>The staff was very friendly and welcoming, however service was a bit slow and it was not busy at all. Looking at the menu, i felt some of the meals a bit overpriced but that happens to most restaurants out there. I ordered a BLT and that comes with fries cost $10, probably a bit pricy. My mum got the $10 deal breakfast which I reckon it's worth getting and that includes a free tea/coffee, bonus 🙌<br/><br/>Overall it was quite good and I would be keen to come back here with some friends! I also heard good stuff about their desserts maybe I'll come again to try that out. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

I can not reveal how bad this Food actually was .. 1- we sent back the Pineapple Juice ..it was Off and Horrid tasting 2-Then we could not believe it !! we had to send Back the Buffalo chicken wings ..It was also Horrid ! 3- we managed to eat a Club sandwich ( Toasted) and Chips..<br/>We went home not feeling very healthy at all ..We used to visit here all the time but this experience has made us decide to never go back ..we complained to management and they Calmly said okay here is the Bill

I've been to this Dennys quite alot of times and I keep going back as it is probably the only Dennys I like in Auckland. We are always greeted so well and seated straight away. This Dennys is very spacious and you are not sitting too close to others so you have some privacy.<br/>The service is not to fast but when the food comes out it is hot so you knows it's freshly made. I also love Dennys selection of desserts. That is one of my most favourite meals when coming to Dennys. I definitely have a sweet tooth.<br/>I also feel that Dennys can be a little too pricey woth some meals but that's with alot of restaurants. Overall I'm always pleased with the service here and will continue coming here whenever I'm close by.<br/>Food (3.5/5) Service (3.5/5) Ambience (3.5/5)

This highland park Dennys is the best Dennys I've been too in Auckland! There is so much space, we get seated straight away which is great. However, waiters do come far too soon, we haven't even opened the menu yet and they're trying to take orders. There is one older man who works here that can memorise your order off the top of his head without needing a pen and paper like all other staff. The hot fudge cakes are the main reason I come. Definitely worth trying if you havent already! Food can be pricey depending what youre getting, but overall quite good! Would come back again.
J M
Price is very expensive, food comes out quite slow, food doesn't taste good, not very good value for money.<br/><br/>Atmosphere and service is good though.
Brett
What happened Dennys? We were frequent visitors and came back today for lunch. All new staff. Girl read back our order and still got it wrong when it came to our table? Had to wait while they fixed the order...after the meal took nearly 30 minutes to get to us. I ordered the BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) Their strange version substituted the tomato with turkey! WTH?? The menu said tomato so not sure what country the cook was from? Was not good at all. Service 1.5/5, menu 2/5, decor 1/5 (WAY overdue for a revamp!) Food 2/5. This used to be an okay place if you dont want 5 star food and service etc but today hit a new low. Even the manager was not very friendly on the register. Back to applejacks next time we are in the area I think. What a shame Dennys.
Hemant Kaushal
We visited here because we thought that the brand has got history attached with itself. To be honest, there was nothing worth-while which I can mention. <br/>The staff was least bothered and gave a very 'cold' vibe. It was almost as if they were uninterested in serving us and went about doing their chores with a feeling of boredom. While this means that they lack motivation it also means that the owners need to pull up their socks.<br/>We had ordered a chicken satay pizza for a take-away. While the food was ready in the time promised it was absolutely appalling to look at and eat. The base was unevenly cooked and the topping and the chicken pieces were rather scattered around. There was hardly any cheese on the pizza and it was all soggy because of all the satay sauce splattered on to it. Please have a look at the pictures and decide for yourself. Will I go again? In an after-life maybe!

I have heard stories of how great Denny's food WAS. I have never been here and been wowed by either the food or the service.<br/>Very boring ambiance , staff couldn't care less and food is not worth the money they charge.
Phillip Blomeley
Had breakfast there this morning  The service was poor  the coffee was cold and bitter  the food was below average   Will think again before going back
ChrisY
Came here on a weekend for the birthday special where you get a free meal when it's your birthday. However, the price for the food here are pretty steep. The pizza doesnt taste really good though although the toppings were not too bad. Steak was a little burnt on the bottom but was alright. However, would not come again as there are better options elsewhere to dine.
Heather Tongiatomai
The overall experience was not up to standards. We were seated quick enough but the food was horrible, everything was over cooked and cold. The pizzas were soggy and we had to use napkins as we were not given any plates. The buffalo wings were cold and was so tough to bite into and dry. Not the Denny's that I used to know. Yes it is a good place to take the family but the food should be good too and not have to leave disappointed and regret the experience and expense. Will not be going back there.
Josh Law
I very much dislike this place. What happened to the US Denny's? The great fast food experience. This place is so average. If you go at night time they all look so depressed and completely dull the mood. Not ideal. The food is pretty average too.
Neil Jones
Always a good cheap family dining experience good food for a reasonable price , definatly a option for something slightly better than normal
Fereen
We definitely won't be returning here. A family member we dined with received undercooked cold chicken. 3 out of 4 of us ended up ill from food poisoning. Each time we go the service gets worse. A shame because we used to enjoy dining here
Tonez
Went here tonight with the girlfriend to get dessert. Awesome service - nice and quick, and the dessert was beautiful. I ordered a hot apple pie and she ordered an oreo shake. Both tasted gooood!
Michelle Ma Belle
What you would expect from a traditional American diner.<br/><br/>Average food, not exactly cheap for what you get. However, still a great place to hang out with friends or late night grab as they open till quite late. Also the $8 pizzas are pretty worth it.<br/><br/>My favourite is actually coming for desserts - especially hot fudge cake & sticky date puddings. Always satisfy my cravings.
Sarah
This is my local Denny's and use to frequent this place a lot when I was younger just for a late night dessert and chatter. The staff here are always friends and the food is fairly good. <br/><br/>I always just go in for the all day breakfast now. At times service can be a bit slow (food taking a while to come out) but overall other than than its a nice place to eat out with the family/friends.
Jonne Lopez
Wanted a nice dinner after finishing a 12hour shift.. <br/>Having experienced the great service and awesome food from Dennys in Auckland City, me and my partner decided to try the one close to our home.. <br/><br/> The service was okay, we both ordered lamb shank on mash with veges unfortunately the food served to us was cold (they could have atleast kept it in the microwave for 30 more seconds) and the veges was over cooked, broccoli was almost yellow in colour and was falling apart.. <br/><br/>We were hoping for a nice meal but last night we unfortunately wasted $48.00 Why not complain you may ask?? <br/>Well unfortunately for us the servers looks aggressive you can almost tell they will spit on your food if you wanted something different..
DontScrewWihMaFood
Really peeved with the answer I got. KIWI BIRD IS the CATCH OF THE DAY???<br/><br/>Asked what the special food was. I think the special varied and it said to ask. Waitering person told me I would be eating kiwi bird tonight<br/><br/>We exchanged an awkward stare as to where he was serious ....<br/><br/>Anyways. I do not endorse this place and their antics. <br/><br/>The sandwich I ordered tastes like a bad day at the dentist or zoo.
Marcella
Best place for a late night snack/ meal/ dessert! Came here for a warm meal last night and we couldn't be happier. <br/><br/>Between the 4 of us we got the grand slam breakfast, curly fries, pea, pie and mash, and 2 desserts- banana fritter and choc fudge cake. The curly fries came in a huge basket! Even we struggled with it. The grand slam was good but the pancakes were an interesting addition to the rest of the savoury elements in the dish. Still good though. <br/><br/>That fudge cake was amazing as always. A must get dessert when you come here! <br/>The other dishes seemed pretty good too since they were demolished quickly by my friends. <br/><br/>Overall, food here is always good for a late night meal and we always welcome Denny's with open arms on a cold night. The only negative is the decor, which is tacky and I'm not a big fan of their lights. <br/>But we don't eat the decor so other than that, rock on Denny's.
Hayley Tamati
First time at Denny's Highland and very impressed with the service very attentive lovely food especially the salads and moroccan lamb so succulent, will dine again!
KBoy
Food takes a while but i attribute that to number of tables served and how busy the restaurant is. Food is well made and relatively tasty. Portion sizes are alright.
That_Girl
The decor is a little bit old but I assume it was the theme of the restaurant. Food was average and nothing exceeding expectations. The old decor matches with the food they serve.

Denny"s a long time resident of highland park..once apon ,a time a 24hour joint now days has a midnight closing time...."but wait there's more!,!! ...you can now order takeaways from their recently renovated takeaway booth..from 11pm till 6am.. if you have the craving ??... I admit they do,do a good burger here along with their toasted club sandwiches both chicken& vegetarian option(nice) also have a range of meal deals from time2time..love or hate them .... the food here ..maybe like most stores in the franchise not always constant ..but this place gives you another option to have a sit down meal....
Micah Dickson
Came on a Thursday, was relatively busy. Got a BLT about ten minutes wait. It was a good meal, chips a bit under cooked and staff weren't very attentive. But definitely not the worst meal I've had here.
Mat
Here we go... Hot fudge cake, apple pie with ice cream, curly fries, bacon bene and chilli fries...These are my top 5 favourite items from Denny's. I'm not really a big fan of the dinner mains, I mean they are okay but not worth the price as you can go somewhere a little more authentic for the same prices charged here <br/><br/>Pls try the hot fudge cake.. Here are some of the words that may cross your mind during each indulgent spoonful- caloric, decadent, moist, satisfying, rich, chocolatey, amazing.. :))

We took our grandchildren out for a treat tonight, most of the food was ok, the burgers seemed the best choice. I ordered a Chicken satay pizza, it didnt arrive until after all the food to the others had arrived and been eaten, even the grandies!  It certainly wasnt worth the wait, it was unedible, and the first pizza I ever had with no cheese on it. The satay sauce was terrible and sweet. Made me feel nauseous after eating half. No one came over and asked how it was, not even the checkout girl - I think they knew.  We wont be going back im afraid. With so much choice around theres no need to eat crappy food.
Prashant Belwalkar
Nice place. Good menu and value for money. Service is good but can be slow at times. Staff is very friendly though. Rated 3 as items taste can be improved further. <br/>

Whenever I eat at Denny's I always get a bit disappointed, I don't know why I keep going back. The last bad experience I had was when I ordered eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce that came with it smelt bad! I didn't bother to complain as I was really hungry and I didn't want to give the staff a hard time. I just wiped off the sauce from the egg and ate my food without the sauce. But they really need to make sure all their stuff is fresh every time.<br/>We came to Highland Park Denny's late night on a busy Friday. The restaurant wasn't too full but there were quite a lot of people. Our order took a while to come but when it came it came altogether at once. But everything was chewy! Almost like the food has been sitting under the light for hours! The pancake that my sister had was tough and chewy, we were better off buying pancake mix from pak n save and cooking it at home! <br/>Also, the side salads are plain boring, just shredded lettuce, a piece of sliced tomato and a piece of sliced cucumber. <br/>Eating here is definitely not a value for money. You pay so much for something so mediocre. The only thing we enjoyed was probably the curly fries and that's it. And like I said before, they need to make sure what's coming out of their kitchen is fresh all the time! Would give a 1 but will give a 2 because of good service.

We have frequented the Denny's in Highland Park for ten years and they get a 3 from me only because their customer service leaves much to be desired. That aside, we visit them for their food. I have to say I have never had an issue with cold food or anything...I love their burgers and even enjoy breakfast here on the odd occasion.<br/><br/>It is quite clear that this place does not have people who enjoy working for them because you are barely greeted and the staff act like they are doing you a massive favour by even taking your order. It's quite hard to keep your mouth closed as often as I do but seeing as how we enjoy the food, and given the attitude, we don't particularly want something unpleasant and unknown to us making its way into our meals.<br/><br/>Wake up Denny's. Eventually people are going to stop coming in and it's thanks to your unpleasant customer service. It's a shame really.

Always come to this Dennys as the service is great. The manager comes around every time and checks in with us and always has something to say. Food is as is, but it is not fine dining but a great meal with great service. The kiddies love it here

Went to Denny's a lot around 20 years ago.  It has gone downhill since then.  The food is fine but the place always seems dirty.

Dennys was quite busy then usual and the staffs were really nice and prompt but orders were misunderstood. Overall the food was great.

I'm pretty sure all the Denny's are relatively the same. Not the most extraordinary food, but yummy comfort food on those days in which you just feel like a big fat burger or something equally greasy with curly fries and dessert. The previous review is correct, it is nothing special but nevertheless still pretty tasty.

Been here quite often, service is always friendly, efficient and well mannered. <br/><br/>Food is what you expect from a Dennys restaurant - nothing fancy but good quality meals for what you pay for. Also good size servings (the pancakes are huge!).<br/><br/>Only thing keeping this back is the decor is quite dated - a bit of peeling wallpaper here and there.

Our family went to Denny's last night for dinner, and we found it was great! We were shown to our table with a smile asked if we wanted to order drinks so we did that came within 10 mins. Our food arrived bout 20 mins after that nice and hot, the meal was great the kids had a good time, waiter had a smile, so they were really friendly. We also ordered desert and that took bout 30 mins but that wasn't to bad the deserts were good so we got to Denny's at 20:00 and was out of there by 21:20 so I think everything was good! The only thing that I didn't like was they do take their time picking the dishes up and we ended up putting them on other table and then they would pick them. So apart from that our family was very happy with Denny's and are looking forward to going again!!!!!!!!

You know, we used to go to Denny's a lot ... so we decided to go there for breakfast yesterday morning, as we were both on holiday...what a big mistake! <br/>We had the buffet breakfast and apart from the toast we made ourselves and the egg cooked before our eyes everything else was runny and or cold.<br/>I think the worst part was the shattered expectations.. we'd always enjoyed our meals at Denny's, but this has really put us off...SAD

My friend and I used to go in for breaky once a week as it was a nice quiet place to catch up. But our food always turned up COLD and off putting - never the way you ask for it. The lady that 99% of the time served us was rude and poor. Nice to everyone else besides us.<br/><br/>Then went in for dinner the other night and ordered the Buffalo Wingers costing us almost $17.00 (as a starter to share) which ended up having a dark short hair in it :/ GROSS!! Didn't say anything as it was towards the end of it (right at the bottom)<br/><br/>Then as mains we ordered the Fish and Chips and the Super Bird Sandwich, and what a disaster they can't even cook bloody fish!! The batter was soggy and the fish was cold.<br/><br/>Would not recommend, poor staff, and the so called ''chef'' can't cook or keep a meal warm. Get some new staff Denny's or do something about it!! Management also don't seem to give a toss!!

I have been going to Denny's in both Wairau and H/P for the last 15 years or so, the food is OK and generally we are treated well but our last experience will be the last time i will ever go there. <br/>The food, the service and the interaction with the management was disgusting, even a constructive letter to the manager Darryn Bell ended with an insult to my family, here are some exerts from his email: "the group of 25 spend $500 wow big deal that's whopping $20 a head for a-la-cart dining" and "it would suit us all at Denny's if your family dining gatherings took place elsewhere, I'm also very confident that you won't be returning to any of our NZ restaurants in the future"<br/>All of this because I said: "we were with a party of around 20 people, we arrived at 7:00 pm and our food did not start getting to us until around 8:20 pm" and "my meal was a T-bone steak and vegetables, the vegetables were delivered to the table cold at 8:20, the steak arrived at 8:35, the steak was supposed to be medium but the meat was overcooked" and "I ordered water for our table also and this unbelievably took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the table even after asking for it four times" and also "I went home hungry and disappointed"

Since it's right next door to head office, I strongly suspect that the staff at Highland Park need to keep their wits about them in order to avoid being torn a new one by Denny's mean, moronic, managers (there were at least three in residence during my meal). On the day of my visit, everything seemed to be going well; I was lucky enough to avoid the lunch rush and still be in time to sample the roast of the day.<br/><br/>The staff were friendly and helpful, and managed to understand my request for no cheese sauce as meaning just that; no more, no less. The soup was warm and filling, and the roast was lovely, although I will say that all Denny's restaurants need to do something to make their peas softer. They should not have the same texture as unpopped corn kernels.<br/><br/>If I'm ever in the Highland Park/Pakuranga area again, I'll keep Denny's Highland Park in mind.

It's cheap and it's nasty, I can't really complain or say it wasn't expected, but I was lucky enough to get the clean spoon and the food without hair in it lol. <br/><br/>I'd only recommend this place if you've got munchies and pass this place first before you get to a McDs.

Bad Bad Bad!!!!!! 0-stars<br/>This is the worst Denny's Restaurant ever!<br/>I Even formally wrote a complaint about my terrible experience and i didn't even get a reply! Denny's NZ, you need to pay more attention! Shocking!!!<br/>Highland Park branch should be closed down.<br/>My husband, baby and I dined here for dinner one night, it looked bad as soon as we walked in (go with my gut next time and turn around and leave)<br/>We got seated and it took ages for the unfriendly waitress to take our order, when we finally got our dinner after a long wait, I still had to wait another 5-10mins just to ASK for cutlery.<br/>When we got our food, only half the plate was full, I ordered the salmon, it was totally over cooked, under sized and looked like it had been from the week before, it tasted terrible too and side veges were cooked to death and cheese sauce was watery. My husbands steak was very under sized, over cooked for what was requested (med) and I swear a very small amount of chips (could have counted them) they were cold and dry. He also ordered the veges and the portions were both different, weird.<br/>It came to time to pay, and it costed far too much, it should have been free! They didn't even ask how the meal was. Very bad service. And might I add the whole time we were seated all we heard was yelling staff in the kitchen, swearing and joking around.<br/>We are frequent Dennys customers, but our usual is Auckland City and New Lynn. Far better service there, if we hadn't had great experiences at the city and New Lynn branches we would have been PUT OFF for good.
Sonia
Went here Tuesday for their 1/2 price breakfast. Beware they are now charging you for the drinks that are FREE with the breakfast any other day. This is not half price because you paying extra for the drinks very misleading and poor customer ethics this chain of restaurant has.<br/>Just wanted to let people know because they will not inform you of these changes to their promotions from last year before hand ONLY when you go to pay. <br/>Wish they are honest with their customers instead of advertising for 1/2 price and then having hidden costs.

Denny's seems to be popular because of its brand, but this place was very poor. Dirty utensils, poor staff and tasteless food. Needs a lot of improvement! Have been a couple of times and each time it seemed to get worse and worse. Not recommended!
Amy
Went there for their half price breakfast special.<br/><br/>Food not brilliant, but considering the amount of food you get, and with the average price of $6.50 per meal (in our case) with free filter coffee (and free refills) or tea, couldn't really complain about that.<br/><br/>Wanted to have fried eggs with my breakfast, told by the waitress that its the same as the sunny side up eggs... Uh, no its not! Didn't want to argue with the waitress so just went along. Shouldn't really advertise saying you cook the eggs any style except boiled if your waitress cant tell the difference between fried eggs and sunny side up eggs!<br/><br/>Apart from that, the service is average, would have to wave the staff down when they walk past as they are all too busy with other customers, as it was busy at the time, so its understandable. <br/><br/>Have visited previously and had their burgers (again on a tuesday with their half price burgers). Very good burgers to be honest. Two people went and ordered two burgers with fries for only $11! (or $5.50 per person). Went there for brunch and with the amount of food we got, we did not go hungry until very later that day! Even if you did not go on a Tuesday, $11 can last you two meals! (or maybe even three meals if you have really small stomach) so worth every penny!<br/><br/>Will definately go back!

Food was bland, and tasteless. Had to wait a very long time for food but the lady serving us was quick to bring drinks and take your orders.

Go for geriatric breakfast. New menu not as good, $5 special, plenty of coffee. Food passable OK to take kids

During my first visit here, I ordered Nasi Goreng...and...I hated it. <br/><br/>I keep coming back to Dennys though, because my friends and I love their desserts. That's all.

Poor quality food, not worth the price, we ordered 3 mains and we hated every bit of it. Food takes long to come and pretty cold. Fillets are cold and rubbery. Never will I go there again. I feel its just waste of money.

Takes ages for food to come out , and when it does the food is really cold.. especially there mashed potato.. wouldn' mind if you got nice warm food and have to wait.....when asked for jug of water plenty of times.. they would always bring out glasses ... overall not such a good place to eat ...

The staff at Denny's is why l would not give it any type of positive star. The length of time it took them to attend to our order was 20mins we literally had to ask to be served....and sad part is that it wasn't busy.... Then it took 40mins to recieve our orders, we came close to walking out....and adults were served first before our children.....no staff notifying us what was going on...then asking them where was the rest of our orders....we all voiced Dennys as one of the worst places to eat at....we would never recommend Denny's at highland park....we would let our friends and family know if they asked us about Denny's. Denny all l can say you were a Mothers Day nightmare....The only best thing that happened was Food was good.

Went to Dennys Manukau but that was packed so decided to go Highland Park ...BAD MOVE!!!!...we waited 30mins for our food, and by the time we got it, it was cold!!! ... we could hear the staff mocking each other, and the couple that arrived after us, were served first!!! how rude!!!....it was my husbands birthday brunch, and thanks to Highland Park it was ruined!!! ... never ever going there again, I'd rather wait at Manukau or New Lynn and get better friendlier service with a smile, and we won't have to wait forever only to be served COLD FOOD!!! ... its like it came from the fridge!!! ... couldn't be bothered sending it back, as we would've had to wait for another 30 mins and my kids were hungry... this is the most unprofessional, unfriendly, and the worst Denny's experience ever!!!!

I have been to this restaurant many times and must say that I have never been disappointed with the food. Once we did try different foods on the menu and even though it wasn't to our taste buds, the food arrived in good time, the waitress kept us up to date on how long the food was going to take and when it did arrive, it looked and tasted good. Although at times there is a waiting time for the food to arrive, if you did the staff to customer ratio, you would notice that there isn't that many staff on certain days hence the waiting time. If they could tidy this up, this restaurant would definitely be one of the best in Auckland!<br/><br/>Good on you Denny's, the menu is FANTASTIC!

its dennys what do some people expect.. every time I have been there i have had the same consistent CHEAP food that dennys is famous for.
Catherine
Very disappointed with the food and service. We waited for 30mins for our food after asking the waitress several times. The food was just terrible. Would not be going back there again.

My family and I often visit Denny's as an economical place to eat (for breakfast mainly). We have visited most of the places in Auckland, and I can't help but mention the only one we've ever returned to (frequently) is the Highland Park branch. We've had nothing but great service there - the staff were pleasant (not outragously friendly) but were fine to deal with. We were placed in a lovely clean area near the window and got our breakfasts in super quick time. We've also recently noticed that the meals have been of an excellent standard of late... the french toast was so fluffy and light as well as lovely &amp; hot (pet-peeve luke warm food) so it's nice when the meal delivered is hot. I must say though, on several occasions we've visited, I feel very sorry for some of the staff having to put up with some of the rude customers that can't even seem to manage a 'please' or thank you' or the ability to order in a pleasant tone themselves - so I suppose (after reading some of the previous reviews) it goes both ways for good customer service.

They are always good for breakfast but would never go there for anything else, well maybe a burger, they are good too.

Well where to start...Both my partner and I are in hospitality and we were disgusted with our experience. The staff were unfriendly and rude not even a hello, when our waitress finally came to take our order she has no customer service skills what so ever. We ordered a Sirloin and an Apricot chicken both of which were cut into before we touched it, looked like they was just dumped on the plate and came with a side of over cooked carrots and cold cauliflower our waitress then came back before I had even finished my main to take a dessert order. Then when we had dessert mine was wrong and was replaced quickly but it wasn't till we got home that we realised we had still been charged for it. We won't be going back.

we went to dinner and we thought we were going to get good service and have a great time.<br/>But what we got was disappointing as the meals were cold when they got to the table and took to long it was about an hour before we got our meals. <br/><br/>the waiter was not very good at his job and had to ask the chef and manager a lot of questions about the meals, he had poor hearing was not listening to our orders. he also had what seemed to be bad odder which made it seem like there were poor hygiene standards as well. we were disappointed and do not wish to come and eat at Dennys because of these problems.
Ashleigh
food was average, took like 20mins to get. But that wasn't the problem it was the staff, they couldnt even manage a hello at the door. You kind of just got; what do you want to eat; then waited an amazing 30mins for our plates to be cleared and to order desert. I told our waiter of the 30min wait got to sorry at all. usually the desert there is pretty good i believe because i was rather upset she purposely took ages getting our sundaes that has almost no sauce and were half the size they usually are. hmmmm

Moving from the UK in 2010, I went to Denny’s Highland Park in 2012 as I was intrigued over the American diner experience. I wanted to soak up the atmosphere, get some good customer service and hopefully get some good food!<br/><br/>I was disappointed. I’m fairly sure that all Denny’s are all much the same, being a franchise, but the food was bland and nothing more special than what I could cook at home for half the price - steaks with eggs, chips and tomato sauce. Burgers. Milkshakes. But then, add to this experience the joy of 40 screaming children, average service and dirty tables and cutlery, I’d prefer to go to Burger King next time!
