This cafe has really lifted it's game post-lock down. With a new manager and new menu it's now on a whole new level. From the first friendly greeting, to the spotless tables through to the fast delivery of excellent food this cafe ticks all the boxes. I've visited about 4 or 5 times in the last month and haven't been disappointed once. Well worth a visit. Today I had the chicken burger which was delicious.

The café is always understaffed with only one staff doing everything, so service speed is understandably quite slow. Price are a little bit dear, due to the premium and convenience of being able to have a meal within MOTAT. Food quality are good, and best of all: my toddler always love it. So, it has become our custom whenever we go to MOTAT to have a meal here.

I was there yesterday, and had eggs-beni for breakfast. It was perfect, the eggs poached to perfection. Wide strips of streaky bacon cooked perfectly, not burnt or hard.. The Spinach for once was cooked and plenty of Hollande sauce served on ciabatta bread. Beautiful, I will be back

People who care about the customer. Great service, great food and excellent people. The venue is fantastic too! Suggestion... open up the upper floor of Cropper House as the views of Western Springs from there were amazing.

Extremely poor service - had to repeat our order multiple times and it still wasn’t taken properly. When I asked politely about it, I was ignored and talked down to. Food was also average - reheated, and bland.

Maybe it was just that I visited on an oppressively hot day, but this cafe was overall lackluster for me.

The heritage building in the middle of MOTAT is stunning and with the garden at the back would be an amazing venue for an event.

Unfortunately as a family-friendly cafe in the middle of MOTAT it's lacking. I found the menu really limited (it is NOT the image saved on this Zomato page), even taking into account the cabinet food.

The hot chips we had were nice and crunchy, although $5/punnet seemed like a lot!

I also had a steamed bun with crispy chicken, slaw and chipotle sauce. It was fairly tasty and a generous serving for $12, but the buns were BLACK! Obviously they taste the same as white buns, but this wasn't mentioned on the menu and I was quite surprised!

They had a fairly good array of sweet treats, although they all seemed a bit depressed in the heat and were sitting (under cellophane) on the benchtop.

We sat in the enclosed patio area outside. It was lovely and had a play corner for kids, but SO HOT. More open sides or some fans to move the air would have been welcome!

Unfortunately the service was a downside for me. Again - it might have been the heat - but the staff seemed flat and tired. There was no effort to help patrons queue (it was a bit confused in front of the counter), they didn't seem to be helpful for queries, and just seemed...tired and downbeat.

In comparison to the food options at Auckland Zoo next-door, MOTAT doesn't fare well. I feel like it’s confused about what it is - is it a cheap and cheerful option for families? A fusion restaurant? A vintage-style tearooms (as the name would suggest)?

Stale, bland and astonishingly overpriced food, terrible coffee, disinterested staff who are likely underpaid. I wouldn’t feed my children anything from here, let alone myself. I would not recommend this place at all until serious changes are made. If I could give a zero, I would.

Very overpriced and the food was not of good quality. The chips were $6 and cold, the bacon roll was $11 and basically a bap with a couple a hunks of cardboard bacon and some sauce and the milkshake was $7.50 and nothing special at all. Food took a long time to come to us. The people at the table next to us were overcharged but the staff couldnt have cared less. Very sad to see this cafe go downhill
