Review High Five Cafe & Bar - Auckland Central

Probably the best breakfast I've had in my entire life!!! The barista was super cute and attentive - makes a killer coffee. The chorizos were amazing, bacon had the perfect balance between fat and meat not too salty a little sweet, the toasted ciabatta bread was A delicacy on its own, really decent amount of mushrooms and two tomatoes during winter when tomatoes are $9 a kilo?! Loved the city vibe as well!

They make a point of offering prompt, gratuitous and all smiles service you would of expected from a classy bookings only restaurant. The food is absolutely phenomenal and presented in artistic and enticing form. Really good place with fair prices. I get breakfast there almost every work day.

Probably the best eggs Benedict with salmon and big breakfast is town! I'd be back for sure!

After a disappointing breakfast experience at a highly rated cafe in Fort Street yesterday we decided to try this place and thoroughly enjoyed it. Coffee was excellent, service was good. Just had the basic stuff - eggs perfectly poached, pancakes delicious, creamy mushrooms nicely done. Just a couple of minor points of constructive criticism which was taken very well and not defensively. Well done.

Absolutely amazing, the seafood platter was just beautiful. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious, cooked quickly and the presentation was beautiful. I'll definitely be back soon, but I'll bring my kids next time. :-) Thank you. People were smoking outside but that did not affect us upstairs. Also the place had a homely feeling when we entered, which was great.

Best big breakfast I've had in NZ in 3 months and I've been across both islands. Alex, the dude at the front is a legend with awesome service and super friendly. Good coffee too! What more could you ask foršŸ‘ŒšŸ½

Loved the peppermint Mocha! The guy who owns the cafe is super lovely and gave me such a nice chat first thing in the morning. The decor of the cafe is gorgeous, very niche and nice to see something a bit different and funky. I plan to go for lunch and eat upstairs. Nice that they are licensed as well so you can get a beer with the BLT on a lazy Friday lunch.

Went in to have some waffles with my girlfriend but we decided to also share a plate of Eggs Benedict before the plate of waffles. The whole lot was amazing! 5/5ļæ½

Had the Breakfast Bruschetta which was absolutely great in my book. Salmon, avocado, poached eggs and ciabatta. Very yum ļæ½

Amazing place for breakfast, lunch or even just a drink with a snack. Always great service and presentation. Always my go to on High St. Happy hour after 3 is always a good deal!

Popped in here the other day for a quick little snack. It was a rainy day it wasn't busy at all so was really nice to spend some warm, cosy time in this place. Ordered the salmon bagel and fries šŸŸ Along with an iced mocha which was really nice! The fries were huge so I couldn't finish it but would definitely come again to try their lunch men sometime.

Came here on a monday for lunch. When we arrived the staffs didn't really pay attention to us until I asked if upstairs was available and the waiter turned back to his computer after replying.

We ordered the pancakes, kumara chips, breakfast bruschetta, and a super berry drink. The pancakes that I got were so much bigger than the waiter described it was when I asked - for $16 the portion is really big. The fluffiness of them were pretty soft and big but they were a bit way too sweet (don't add too much maple syrup when they give it to you). Surprisingly, they gave me a lot of blueberries as well and the sourness of them helped balance the sweetness of the pankcakes a little bit.

The bruschetta's smoked salmon had that actual smoky and saltiness in it. The balsamic vinegar around the plate made a huge difference to the original flavors of the bread and eggs as it added that touch of sweet and sour taste to it.

The good thing about these dishes is that everything is served hot and the kumara chips were served straight out of the fryer. However, for the super berry drink, using a paper straw isn't the best idea as the paper would melt in your mouth. The taste of the drink is refreshing, but there was a whole chunk of ice at the bottom of the smoothie and it made the drink hard to sip.

Taste - 7/10
Size - 8/10
Service - 7/10
Price - 8/10

Came on a Wednesday at 4pm.

We got the Thai Beef Salad, Chicken Salad and Green Goddess Smoothie and a Orange Juice.
The Thai salad, let me tell you, WAS ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Fresh and hot, the beef was cooked to absolute PERFECTION; it was tender and delicate. It worked so well with the crispy noodle noodles and crushed peanuts, tofu and rocket leaves. Texture wise it was genius! BUT it was the sauce that pulled it all together. It was sweet like warm honey, with a pinch of sour to it. SO SO GOOD.
The chicken salad looked so good as well! Bacon, Grilled Chicken breast, halloumi, kumara.
The green goddess smoothie claimed to be made of apple, spinach, cucumber, mint and almond milk. However, there was no zesty taste of apple whatsoever. Donā€™t think there was any cucumber in there either. It had a really dry and pastey texture and Iā€™m certain I could taste oat pieces in there... the beef salad is saving them here with the 4/5.

Food: 8/10
Price: 8/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 7/10

Came to town a bit early for uni and so glad I did ! Hidden Gem in high street with an awesome vibe and quick service for a reasonable price in Auckland CBD. I ordered the Green Goddess smoothie which was good, however did need more mint and the chicken and pumpkin filo which I cannot fault. Definitely coming back here again when I have a pm class. Keep up the amazing job :D

Had a good variety of vegetarian food, which is always appreciated. I had ordered the Asian open sandwich and a homemade lemonade and overall it was actually better than I had expected all the ingredients worked well together and the caramelised onions were a great touch. The lemonade was also very nice and refreshing, will probably be going back there.

On a side note: my friend had ordered the pasta dish and although she did enjoy it, it had lacked flavour.

Ever since I tried their coffee, I've been a regular customer, coming every week! Their coffee is by far one of my favourites within the CBD. It's at a good temperature, nice and hot. I love the taste of cinnamon topping and coffee going down my throat. A solid 9/10! Their cappuccino is a must-try, and but will order their other drinks next time! I wonder which coffee bean roastery they use? In terms of service, the staff seem friendly but don't really show it through their expressions. However, the quality and taste of their food and drinks is more important! As with the interior, there is more room upstairs but I wish they could change their lighting (too gloomy and dark). Again, thumbs up to their coffee!

Very poor service, but food is good. Only asians are allowed to sit inside (according to the waitress "we're closed upstairs"), you also won't get any water when you aren't asian, while others did. It's obvious that you should only visit when you're from asia. That's ok, but they should communicate that. And you shouldn't even try to redeem a GrabOne voucher as I experienced.

Photo shows shared BBQ plate for $38, not worth the money since food from countdown (also like the cakes!)

Very convenient to get to, I have the Thai beef salad every time and served beautifully. The amount of food they give is great, only bad thing is they put tooo much sauce on it.. by the time you get to the end of the dish. BUT THE BEEF IS AMAZINGLY COOKED so tender! Chocolate drink or the berry smoothie is always a good choice if you can't choose.
Tofu sandwich was surprisingly good too.

Good place for sharing some of the dishes too.

We used Grab One vouchers. Ordered Big Breakfast & Bruschetta for lunch. We had scramble eggs for Big Breakfast which has no seasoning. Ā Bruschetta looks lovely but taste bland. We paid a half today so I felt OK.

More problem. Tables are at Ā front of cafe, there are up stairs as well, but up stairs was dark and hot, so we sat on outside table which is all other customers there ( not many). Tables were not clean, some foods on table. Staff didn't even wipe table each customers left. There were many fry around my table, and other tables. Fly tried to landing on our foods. We needed to keep moving heads when we were eating. I felt like eating in India. Floor looks like never clean as well.

Next cafe is Hollywood Ā bakery which has exactly same table setting out side. However they look much clean! Will I come back here without half price vouchers? No. I will pay full price to have clean place and tasty meal at other cafes.

I found this cafƩ through a Grab One deal for a breakfast deal. We popped in for a Saturday brunch. The food took two hours to come out, they compensated us by providing an additional free coffee however the wait was probably not worth it. They were running the morning service with Only one Chef. Food was in large servings. Would easily share the big breakfast between 2 people. Again due to service delays by the time we got our plates out it had gone cold.

Called in as soon the cafe opened at 10am to make a booking for 2 for breakfast and got told that they are fully booked till 1pm. Me and my partner ended up doing a walk in around 11:30 and the cafe only had 3 customers. ???? we ordered and got served striaght away !!! Dissapointed ****** wouldnt recommend

Visited on a beautiful Auckland day, sat outside soaking up the High St atmosphere and sun. Food was excellent, and serving size was large! I've been here before and found coffee a bit underwhelming, but barista today was spot on. Service was a bit slow, but they were very busy and extremely pleasant.

Ordered pasta and fries. Reason why I gave a low rating because the fries that was served was undercook. And in my opinion, whatever is served to the customer must be cooked and suitable to customers unless it is something that can be eaten undercook.

However, the place gives a nice feel and I do enjoy eating on the indoor balcony

Pasta was delicious, I do not remember the name but I think there's only one or two type of pasta that's not seafood :)

I ordered a Lemon Ice Tea, with no sugar, and it tasted great! The Cafe itself is very pretty, and uniquely decorated, it has an outdoor seating area, and upstairs seating. The service was lovely and friendly šŸ˜‡ My only problem was the free Wifi, which my phone was unable to stay connected to. But overall I had a lovely experience.

Wonderful little cafe on high street, it doesn't get much sun so definitely not an outdoors cafe on a cold day. But it was hot for us, so it was perfect temperature outside.

Coffee: regular flat white, a little milky not a super strong bean. The macchiato was much better.

Service: started off welcoming with a smile, but as he got busy, it seemed like he was just trying to get stuff done. Nothing really wrong, just would have loved a smile. To be fair it is the first week of Jan and the cafe is under-stafffed

Food: bacon eggs benedict. Absolutely fantastic. Bacon perfectly cooked. Eggs runny, spinach tasty, and most importantly plenty and plenty of holland side, which was a full flavoured and thick!

Value: mid to high end, but it is Auckland CBD's High street and the food was great. So value is worth it.

Ordered two big breakfasts and two smoothies - well presented, decent size and tasted great - good value for money! Service was a tad slow, place could use a good clean/ make over. Service was average from one guy, awesome from another young Asian gentleman!

New owners, you really need someone to train your staff to make proper coffee or hire a proper barista.

I've been a lifelong customer of cima coffee and I've never come out grumpy before.

Only ordered 2 coffees and 1 order was wrong when there are no customers. Also if I wanted a hot chocolate I would order a hot chocolate, not a mochacchino.

Not much else to say.
