Review Batch Winery - Auckland

The Tiny 2
Great atmosphere. Stopped in for a bite during our ebike self guided tour. Order from the beanbags under the tree. Didnt have to get up once to order. Brilliant!. Opted for a refreshing cider and the cheese platter. Could have atayed all day. Views were so pretty.

we had the “trust the chef” and weren’t disappointed. food was top notch, up there with some of the best eateries i’ve been to, and portion size was great. the views were outstanding, staff were helpful and polite, prices were reasonable. also worth bringing some hiking clothes as theres a walk entrance right beside the car park

Great balance between casual and sophisticated. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, heaps of plush cushions and accent lighting. There’s also a fireplace so ideal place during winter for a glass of wine and chocolatey dessert. The women who served us was fantastic and even though we just ordered drinks we were still made to feel very welcome. Great experience 🍷

Nice place to stop and have a few drinks and a few bites. We used the Hop on Hop off bus which stopped here right at the door. Great views. Great vibe.

Only here for a wine tasting blanc di gris fantastic. Beautiful atmosphere and great venue spot for weddings. Can't rate food as we didn't have any, but they do know how to pair their wines with mini tasting snacks.

Beautiful location at the highest point on the island. Great views of Auckland across the bay. Nice hiking trails right out the door. Friendly staff and wonderful wine tasting.

Such a picturesque wedding venue! I was the Celebrant and Wedding Planner for an intimate elopement. The team at Batch Winery were outstanding to liaise with. They went out of their way to provide exceptional service and hospitality to make my Bride and Grooms wedding day magical! Even though the weather was wild and raining there was a perfect undercover deck with a panoramic view out to the ocean. I look forward to performing my next marriage ceremony with this awesome team!

Wonderful evening at the batch the food was amazing , the wagyu beef and the lamb ribs were delicious, wish there was more of the wagyu beef it was so very tasty. The salad we got also complimentended the meal nicely The atmosphere was very serene and the outside view overlooking the landscape was breathtaking. Definitely a must see and dine in experience, make sure to add it to your Waiheke tour

Beautiful winery, highest in the island I believe! We came here for lunch. Enjoyed drinks outside before hand, unfortunately they ran out of cider. Food was high quality, and luxurious. Service was good however we asked to be notified when our table was ready but was not. Also wish they had more umbrellas outside to sit under. Stunning views and venue was beautiful. Would recommend to others!

Came here recently for a lunch on a busy Saturday, had made a reservation but when we arrived there was a bit of confusion with our reservation/which table was ours. However, they figured it out and gave us a table with a great view of the water.

The rest of the service was great, very prompt, friendly staff. But unfortunately the food was just average. A great sounding menu with lots of vegan/veggie options as our group is mostly all vegetarian, but the meals just lacked flavour and were pretty bland. The tasting board and hummus that came with the cobloaf had absolutely no flavours and everything needed seasoning. My meal was the vegan pie had great actual fillings but the sauce was pretty bland; same with the veggie meatloaf.

Was really looking forward to having a delicious vegan meal but was let down by the flavours. The wine, views and everything else was great, maybe we just made the wrong choices for the food. Overall 3 stars describe it accurately: average food.

4th and best visit yet. Loving the new menu and staff. Super accomodating for our vegan family member. Beautiful fresh seafood. The vegan chocolate hazelnut desert with whipped coconut cream is to die for! Whole table enjoyed themselves and as always views were stunning. Definitely prefer Batch during quieter times, can get a bit crazy.

Beautiful spot for lunch or dinner with lots of room to roam around in the fresh air.
We enjoyed a range of dishes with the high tea being a stand out.
Lots of options for drinks & a good kids menu too.
Girl On The Move
We hiked the Whakanewha Regional Park and stopped off at the Bach along the way. We ordered a high tea each, which included a glass of Rosé.
The high tea consisted of a selection of dips, chutneys and hummus, breads, crackers, olives, cheese, nuts, chicken pie, salmon, meatloaf, slaw salad and a pavlova.
The chicken pie was delicious and how a pie should taste. The pastry was flakey and not overcooked. The filling was equally as delicious and worked so well. The salmon tasted was cooked to perfection, it wasn't over cooked or undercooked - it was just right. We also really appreciated the care and thought put into the pavlova, the sweet rhubarb on top added a pleasant twist to our kiwi classic. The ratios of everything was perfect and accompanied the creme and the meringue perfectly.
This was Sunday afternoon at approx 4pm please give our thank you to the chef on duty.
Great location. At the top of a hill and you can see the coast line with a view of Auckland City. Hummus on their cheese platter is really delicious. Bread is warm and crispy outside, grapes are fresh. I will definitely go back if I have a chance to Waiheke again.

We came here for dinner, ordered smoked salmon mousse for starter and pan seared beef sirloin. We were pretty pleased with the food! My beef was how I usually like it, medium rare and crispy fries complemented the whole experience. And of course cant pass trying their wine. Service was also pretty good! Love the view as well.
Ambience 4/5
Food 4.5/5
Service 4/5

We came here for wine tasting and then back again next day for high tea. Both times the service was good. The restaurant is on a hill top and we were seated by the windows with a nice view. The high tea had a good mixture of savoury and sweets, it all tasted delicious and fresh. Sitting on the top tier was a huge glorious pavlova that we could not finish as it could have easily fed 4 people. We had definitely enjoyed our time here.

Such a lovely place! Came here for lunch and it was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly and seated us straight away. Food and drinks came out very quickly and tasted delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful view, wine and food - a recipe for a perfect romantic afternoon date. We tried the first 2 wine tasting selections and the Bach board. Very elegant wines complimented by delicious morsels.
There was also a Hen's brunch going on next to us which looked super fun, a group of ladies enjoying the sumptuous high tea and groups of friends out on the green soaking in the sunset over a stunning view.

Very kind and professional. The shuttle bus driver was awesome and very friendly, and came halfway through to ask how we are and to remind us of departure times. The waiters were super kind and friendly and gave helpful advixe when we were torn between what dish to order. Beautiful views from our window side seats across Waiheke and towards Auckland city.

The wine was amazing, the atmosphere was nice. The food came out really fast despite being told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. One of us had the fish and chips dish and that was great. Unfortunately we were all really disappointed with the vegan burger. First we noticed that the bottom bun was soggy. The menu said that burger was packed full of veges, with mayo and cheese, however, there’s was no mayo or cheese to be found. But there was one slice of tomato and a dollop of avo. The veggie patty was very thick but very dry, tasted like just mashed up lentils. The side salad was a bit sad with a lot of onion. The relish was the nicest part. For $26 + $5 for fries for the four of us, it turned into a very sad meal. We spent around $170 and left disappointed. I really wanted to say something to the staff but no one came to us during or after our meal, I could see that it was quite busy but we were there for awhile finishing our drinks. We tried not to let this experience get us down but was a bit of a bummer. Since we are still young professionals/students, for such a expensive lunch we expected something different. Thanks!
Food?
Came here for a work Christmas event. Amazing scenery and atmosphere. Perfect for a catered event. But food and wine is quite average to be fair.

Thomas Estate Batch Winery

Located on Carson’s Rd Oneroa the Thomas family accidentally discovered Waiheke Island for a chance to rest and recover before heading to the South Island to view a vineyard that was for sale.
During that short rest they fell in love with Waiheke Island and realised the burgeoning rep for Waiheke wines was needed and enchanted by the iconic NZ Bach lifestyle they could forever embraces special family memories for years to come.

Amongst scenic views, local native bush and birds they have created a evocative inviting Restraunt they have called Thomas Bach this is no way a Bach in our kiwi design this is an extraordinary venue
Sea views blue skies painted effortlessly lit it were on a canvas, where sunset meets the deep blue sea, amazingness

The interior is clean spacious conceived as a Shed/Barn it’s certainly does not reflect this at all contoured into steel timber iron with translucent wall panels.. Absolutely breath-taking view. The food are great and the service is excellent. We ordered half dozen natural oysters and 3 pieces of the baked one. The hand cut fries were nice and crispy. We had a vanilla ice cream and a strawberry sorbet as dessert. Felt so satisfied. They also provide picnic mat if you'd like to go under the sun. Worth visiting if you come to Waiheke Island.

Stunning views and mouth watering food. We came for a tasting and ended up having some desserts too and very glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious and they were very happy to modify something to be gluten and dairy free for me. I’m only sad that I hadn’t come here earlier but will be making the batch one of my must visit wineries on the island from now on

Bought a voucher from grabone with return ferry and bus ride to the vineyard.
It was a lovely experience with great views, service and food.
Me and my were given given 4 wines to taste followed by some bubbles and high tea.
Considering it was our first time on such tour, we loved the experience.

Unfortunately the service is very bad. We waited 20 minutes to order, called the waiter who did not want to take orders. To sum it upb avoid this place.

We had a lovely experience, the views were amazing also the staff was very kind and informative we were suggested some best dishes in veg with wine tasting, which made our day end beautifully.

If you’re up for wine here’s the place you’d love to enjoy your lunch with. They give 3 complimentary tastings if you’re on for the tour. You gotta be patient for your food though, they’re quite busy out here whilst waiting you have to soak in the amazing view of Auckland from afar right outside the restaurant.

Hadn't even heard of this place until our friendly compère at Te Motu mentioned to our group of amateur diners that Thomas' Bach has the best pavlova in all of Waiheke... So what more motivation do we need to test our unqualified taste buds? After a hectic day of touring Waiheke, ending up at the supremely scenic Thomas' Bach was an unsurpassed delight. With 360 degree views over the entire island, and plenty of indoor and outdoor dining, this is Cable Bay on steroids. Of course I ordered the pavlova and even though I had to fend off the attempts of my inebriated fellow diners to stick their spoons into it, managed to savour this culinary masterpiece. Next time we are on the island we will be having a leisurely lunch here and sampling the rest of the menu....

Wicked! Awesome location. Amazing views and really chilled.

Came here for our Company Lunch. Great tasting food, nice and light and tonnes of booz.

Absolutely loved it, I was on the grass chilling under the sun and tree. The choppers flying over. Came here for a friend's birthday and had the chicken pie and delicious chocolate brownie with some yummy sparkling wine. Really enjoyed myself there as we looked out at a beautiful view. It's such a beautiful resaurant and so nice to walk around. The view is incredible and wine is great 👍

Just the most perfect setting. Stunning views. We ordered the afternoon tea and a wine sampler. Loved it. Kind of reluctant to give such a good review as want to keep this gem to ourselves! Can't wait to go back.

Food was alright, wine was great. Staff and kitchen not equipped to handle amount of tables in the restaurant. Waited over 45 minutes for food on a wine tour. Enjoi should choose another place to drop people off for lunch.

We love trying the wineries when we are on waiheke and this trip we headed to Thomas's Bach for dinner. A beautiful spot with lots of different dining areas, perfect for big groups. We ordered from their dinner menu and can recommend the cob loaf with homemade onion dip, pavlova and of course their wine selection. We had both their rose's and they are both Delish but my preference was the Pinot rose.
Paige Venter
We came here for a birthday party on a weekday. The food was nice and priced as expected. We absolutely loved the Rose and ended up getting through 3 bottles over an afternoon. I am scoring low because of the service we received on the phone by one of the staff. They had failed to let us know that the shuttle bus was not working, and we waited 20 minutes at the ferry terminal (hungry and excited), only to be told to take a taxi at our own expense. The attitude we received was uncaring and unhelpful. We cancelled our reservation in response. Luckily, someone else from the Bach called us back five minutes later and offered a complimentary taxi. We were relieved and enjoyed our visit, but we were unimpressed with the way we were stuffed around at the beginning of the day. Another aspect to mention is that there was construction going on throughout the meal service, we were unaware of this upon booking.

Beautiful view and probably one of the less visited dining areas as it as a bit of construction work going on. Family owned. Price point is expected for Waiheke. Their fresh potato sourdough and kiwi dip spread is simple yet delicious! High tea should be your starting point here! Their pavalova smash is just divine! My favourite from the high tea has to be their spin on the bacon and egg pie - aside from the obvious ingredients they add spinach and a handful of cranberries! The pastry is fluffy and flaky! Great seating area - for large groups and has a dedicated bus that goes back to ferry 15 past every hour! Internal decor is simple but chic! Can't wait to see what it looks like once all the work has been done on its premises.

Wow! What a view and what a treat. We had high tea....which I'm pleased to say didn't come with tea but with 4 wine tasters. We then got to choose our fav and received a large glass. The food was beautiful and left you full in a nice way. Best pav ever by the way!! They are in terms process of renovating but it didn't matter at all. Service was fantastic. Lovely staff. Looking forward to a return visit

Stunning views across the island and gulf back to Auckland. Pick a nice day without to much wind to enjoy a day outside and views for miles. Serving a simple menu, the chicken salad is a favourite of ours - lots of delicious herby flavours going on. The High Tea and Bubbles is popular, and fairly decadent. They smoke their own salmon on site - delicious!

Blue sky, a stunning view, great wine and fantastic company. A visit to New Zealand’s North Island isn’t complete without a visit to its world-renowned wineries. On the recommendation from a local, our merry group of eight concluded our Waiheke Island day tour with a spot of lunch at the Batch Winery. Fortunately we pre-booked through our tour company (Ananda Tours), as the Batch is popular with locals, tourists and hens parties.

Nice open area, with both the inside and outside areas being kept very clean, and tables are cleared quickly for new guests. Large gazebos outside to protect from the elements, however we were fortunate to have glorious weather which made the already breath taking view even more amazing.

The service is average, with one of the male waiters being very helpful however others less so. We had to wait quite a while for table service, but it was obvious the staff were very busy, so I got the feeling they are quite understaffed.

Food (lunch) was very well presented and very promptly brought out, although it tasted though it had been prepared in the morning. Would come again but would probably order something different.

Being told Batch (soon to be rebranded as Thomas) occupies one of the highest spots on the island, commanding great views of the city and valleys of the island itself, we took the car on a mission to track it down. If you don’t have a car, Batch also offers a return transfer service from...

Food was not too bad, except a little on the expensive side. The view is something else though! My hot smoked salmon was fantastic although the side of focaccia could have been a bit more fresh.

What a STUNNING setting! Views to die for. Bush, rolling fields, the sea and the sprawl of Auckland in the distance.

We were there for a pre dinner cheese platter so did not actually experience the full menu.

Cheese platter was gorgeous with a great selection of cheeses and accompaniments.

Washed down with a flight of three wines - in the sun - perfect!

We were stunned by how beautiful this place was. It's gorgeous, and the views are even more breathtaking. The menu had a number of tempting options and we were already making plans to return for dinner. Then the food arrived. The menu is obviously designed to be easy on the kitchen: it's all cold or reheated. That would be OK, however, if the food was good. It isn't.I had the house smoked salmon on buckwheat salad. It was virtually tasteless. I'm not a salt person: I never add salt when I cook at home and often find restaurant food oversalted. But this was crying out for salt as the salmon tasted of nothing at all. There was no salt on the table either. The salad was equally dull - again, the buckwheat desperately needed salt. There's supposed to be fennel in the salad but I was unable to detect any.I was wishing I'd ordered the bacon and egg pie instead when my friend, who did, said it was virtually inedible. It was apparently incredibly soggy. Fail.Optimism intact, we both ordered the Anzac biscuit ice cream sandwich. Oh dear. The point of an ice cream sandwich is that you're supposed to be able to eat it like a, you know, sandwich. The ice cream was way too soft for that, so any pressure on the biscuits sent the ice cream oozing out. As for the biscuits, they were awful. Overcooked and with so much raising agent they tasted bitter. There's clearly been a ton of money been poured into the fitout of this place. Until they get the food right, it's been utterly wasted. Five stars for the view. Zero stars for the food.
Mrspotandmrlid
This place is not about food. You could probable eat dirt here and wouldn't care. Go purely for the view.. At sunset.. City views of auckland that just cannot be beaten. Grab a bottle of wine a loved one and sit on the rolling green grass outside for an amazing evening.. Or a group of friends some more wine and have a great night.. My emphasis is on the wine, the people and that view.

Came here for lunch. The view and setting like many places on the island are very nice. The wine we sampled was pretty decent...and like many places on the island you pay a premium for something decent. The food was ridiculously poor and overpriced. Reheated food, not freshly prepared and disappointing. When we were there the owner/manager was on the phone across the table from us talking about food photo shoots. As a paying guest I don't want to have you babble in my ear about photo shoots. I want to enjoy the scenery and the experience. When we were there a single American girl arrived for a drink. One of the waiters got a stiffy and was overbearingly 'pleasant', one of the other workers who drives a small Mercedes fell over backwards dribbling and drooling and being cringeworthingly 'helpful'. It was so cheesy. So yeah... you need to work on your customer service. And have some pride in freshly prepared food. If you can only reheat the stuff then stick to decent platters.
