Review Black Cottage Cafe - Auckland

Met up with a good friend for lunch, great ambience, prompt and very friendly service. The menu is great and the place was buzzing. Enjoyed the fresh snapper with salads, really delicious! Great little place!

recently visited Black Cottage cafe for lunch in Coastville Village, Auckland, and let me tell you, appearances can be deceiving. From the outside, it resembles a contemporary cottage by the highway, but once you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and cozy ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home. 🏡❤️ Upon entering, I sought the hostess's recommendation, and she enthusiastically suggested their signature dish, DUCK A L'ORANGE. This delectable creation features a perfectly prepared Confit Duck Leg accompanied by Dauphinoise Potato, Sauteed Green Beans, Candied Orange, and a tantalizing Citrus Jus. 🍗🍊🍽️ To complement my meal, I decided to indulge in a refreshing Hazy IPA, which the hostess highly recommended. 🍺👌 Meanwhile, my wife opted for the Salmon Benedict, a dish that boasted a medley of flavors. It consisted of house-smoked salmon, mustard-parmesan potato rosti, creamed spinach, beetroot puree, and originally, poached eggs. However, she made a delightful twist and changed them to scrambled eggs. 🍣🍳🥔 As for my order, the Duck A L'Orange was a true culinary delight. The combination of the succulent duck and the creamy Dauphinoise potato was simply mouthwatering. The rich and tangy citrus jus elevated the dish to a whole new level, adding a delightful touch to each bite. 😋👌 On the other hand, my wife's order was a burst of flavors. The scrambled eggs, perfectly cooked to a creamy and soft consistency, blended harmoniously with the tantalizing smoked salmon. And let me tell you, the potato rosti served as a remarkable companion to this flavorful ensemble. 🍳🍣🥔 Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Black Cottage cafe to anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience. While it may be slightly on the pricier side, the quality and taste of the food unquestionably justify it. The impeccable customer service further enhances the overall experience, and due to its popularity, it's advisable to make reservations in advance to secure your spot. 👍📞 Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you – step inside Black Cottage cafe, and you'll discover a hidden gem waiting to satisfy your taste buds with its delightful dishes and cozy atmosphere. Bon appétit! 🍽️😊

Wow!!!! I have just discovered this place, I wish I had known about it sooner..... The pasta was too die for, the fish was too die for, the cakes looked good but was too full. Plus they sell alcohol, so nice place for lunch. Friendly staff. You have to try this place, we'll worth the drive. I'll be back!.

My son took me here for lunch yesterday, staff were all lovely and food was delicious. Definitely be back

Wonderful staff, delicious fresh food. Can't beat the French toast, iced chocolate, or the carrot cake (don't leave without a takeaway of these scrumptiously moist temptations!) Clean and tidy, big covered outdoor area, and even a little outdoor playground for kids.

Black Cottage Cafe is a right hidden gem in the heart of Coatesville. Having been introduced to Black Cottage Cafe by my locally living best friends in 2020, I have been here many times since and not once have I ever been let down by the incredible team here. The ladies who are in their front of house positions are always kind, friendly and understanding if any of my friends in the group that I usually come to this cafe with have any dietary requirements and immediately offer us alternative suggestions. My two best friends and I even hiked five kilometres from their house last year in the boiling January summer heat to just have a taste of the stunning food here at this cafe as none of us had a full drivers license at the time...but now I do!! That time that we were there, we had the brunch selection. I went for the Black Cottage Breakfast and my best friends had the chicken and avocado salad and the french toast. All three of us devoured our meals, they were stunning and we did not regret that hike whatsoever! The last time that I came to Black Cottage was for a very early last minute breakfast at 7:30am. My other best friend had told us that she was coming up for a visit as she is currently away studying in the South Island. Despite being the early hours of the morning, we all had a lovely catch up over breakfast and the food did not disappoint. I was able to reserve a table with ease thanks to the help of Eva. I had the gluten free option of the french toast and it was delicious! This same group is returning in a weeks time for another catch up breakfast and we are all so, so excited to be back at this stunning cafe. Thank you so much Black Cottage! I would give you way more than five stars for your incredible food, service and environment and just for helping me get my friend group together who don’t get to see each other very much as we are all uni students or working now. :)))

Oh wow, let me share my experience at the Black Cottage Cafe. The hot chocolate there is absolutely delightful, with its rich and creamy flavor. The cottage itself is a picturesque beauty, reminiscent of a charming fairytale setting. Additionally, they have a well-designed playground that offers a fun-filled experience. It's the perfect spot to unwind, indulge in delicious treats, and enjoy a great time. I highly recommend visiting this lovely cafe!

What a lovely place <3 I love their fireplace in the middle of the cafe, it adds such a nice vibe to the dining experience. The sausage roll is great, and the plates served around me were all looking and smelling delicious. The Belgian hot chocolate was served with a chocolate marshmallow, which is a nice extra from the usual thing. Beautiful garden, beautiful decoration and furnitures

Great food and great location. This is a local favourite and quite busy most of the weekends. Love the vibe and the outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and helpful. I always go for the big breakfast when ordering.

Staff are super friendly and attentive. Food is consistently excellent. Salmon Benedict and the fish cakes are my favourite. The snapper and the chicken salad are also up near the top! Will always be back!!.... oh and also... Amisfield Rose... good!!!!!

Amazing service, friendly greeting from the front of house staff and the waiter was on time with coffees, waters and coffee cup removal to. Epic vibes with the fire burning in the middle of the room. Enjoyed the most delicious Almond latte. Well done and highly recommended.

Went here for brunch on Saturday just before it got packed as its quite popular with locals. We had the fried squid and the pulled pork. Portions are generous and food is delicious. My squid was perfectly coated and crunchy while the pork was moist. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Honestly, the friendliest staff! I grabbed a quick coffee, and they were sweet and friendly as soon as I walked in! The waitress took my order and even brought it to me outside the cafe! And may I add that the coffee was absolutely amazing!

Monday lunch. Warm welcoming the moment we stepped into the cafe. Plenty of tables for us to choose from and a lovely playground with slide and swing for the little one. Food is delicious and generous portion, fries are slightly heavy on the salt for my liking but fish sliders are spot-on. Didn't like the chocolate marshmallow fish with my mocha because the marshmallow bit didn't actually melted in the coffee hence slightly bitter for my taste, preferably just normal marshmallows. Iced mocha on the other hand is too sweet for my husband's liking. Also bought the raspberry poppy seeds, looks delicious but I can't comment on it yet. All and all is well and would definitely come back again plus recommend for others. Thank you for your hospitality.

I've been before a few times but this time met a friend there with my 1 and 3 year old. Food is incredible, staff were really accommodating with the fact I had little ones with me, highchair provided quickly so I could get my youngest out of my arms and coffee offered straight away (yassss). Coffee is divine. Food fab. Cakes weren't there when we arrived (9.30am) but I still got one takeaway as they looked too good not to. We left a wee mess under the table (kids!) but it was no problem and cleaned up straight away. Really recommend this place.

A resounding Thank you to the staff at Black Cottage. We arrived as a large group yesterday, pre booked with a request for mainly cabinet food. After some initial confusion that was superbly handled, our food arrived fast, delicious & with great courtesy. Our ladies our still raving with many of us vowing to come back for a more leisurly lunch as couples !!!! Many thanks

Even though we live quite some distance away, this place is our family's 'go-to' destination for cafe-ing. Great service. Excellent food. And we even discovered during a violently windy hailstorm yesterday just how resilient their enclosed outdoor section is. Highly recommended.
Ken Vernon
An excellent meal (lunch) and value for money. The service was very fast even though the place was about 98% full. We will be going back
Rula Nielsen

My favourite cafe in Auckland by far. The best smashed avocado, coffee and the evening menu is just as delicious. We will always be back! :)

Thank you so much Banu & Sulo for our most perfect, magical wedding! We couldn't have asked for more. Exceptional food, faultless, friendly service, enchanted surroundings, divine wine! And only 3 years in the making lol. We really consider you as family. 💕

This is quickly becoming a favourite of mine for a little guilty pleasure. Working our way through their menu. So far love it!
Jade
Really cute little cafe, love the setting. Staff are friendly, food is okay, nothing that special but the coffee is out of this world!
SpoonMe
Everything sounded delicious on their menu but I chose this since I probably can’t get this at any other Café and good job to me cause it was really really reallyyyy good.<br/>Great food, ambience and service so if you need a retreat from the city it’s definitely worth the drive 💛
Georgia Williams
Been here a few times before as the food is always very tasty and well presented, although service wasnt the greatest this last time. Took a while for someone to ask for our order and when I enquired about a piece that used to be on the menu the lady was very blunt about it
Rachel
One of my top cafes. Go to so often. The food is always amazing and my favourite place to have smashed avocado. The service is great even on days they’re super busy.
Benjamin Daisuke Hirata
Great food! I tried creamy mushroom and it was outstanding. Chorizos in the dishes makes the creamy Mushroom special. Long black is also good!
Floriane
Amazing experience at the Black Cottage cafe, it’s been one of the best brunch I had in a while! The food is very fresh and beautifully cooked! Highly recommended for foodies 😍

Food: <br/>Presentation was on point for everything. <br/>We started off with a mango smoothie and a berry smoothie. There was definitely a difference in quality; the berry smoothie was good, but it didn’t have a very strong, authentic, fresh fruit flavour. It was almost a bit too milky. On the other hand, the mango smoothie was very fragrant, and tasted fresh. Not too overpowering, which was lovely, as mango often can be. <br/><br/>The Black Cottage Cafe Breakfast is an absolute winner. The serving size is generous, the mushrooms are to die for (indescribable), the gooey, decadent poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and the sausages and bacon added a nice touch of typical Sunday breakfast. The hash brown they make is unconventional, being very filling and filled with different things, but we both enjoyed it. Toast was fairly normal. Our only complaint would be the grilled tomato was a bit acidic. <br/><br/>Service:<br/>This was a spontaneous Anzac Day brunch idea. We called about 15 minutes before arriving to make a booking, and we’re seated right away upon arrival while those with no booking had to wait. Despite the cafe swelling with patrons, our orders were taken within 5 minutes of being seated, our drinks out in another 5, and the food just 5 minutes later. The waitresses were attentive, and the barista who took care of handling our bill was friendly. <br/><br/>Ambience: <br/>Bustling, with the aromatic smell of breakfast flowing from the kitchen, and such a gorgeous outdoor seating area. The kind of place you can go for a romantic brunch or bring the kids too, since there’s a very thoughtful play area off to one side. We will definitely want a seat outside next time! <br/><br/>Recommendation <br/>If you want a hearty, cooked breakfast, to be surrounded by beautiful country scenery, and to enjoy a windy Sunday drive, this is the place to be.
Anna Griffin
Very busy place with very helpful, accommodating staff and good coffee, the service was quick and efficient. We had the ultimate cheeseburger and liked it a lot (wasn’t a big fan of ciabatta on a burger but flavour-wise it was really good and potato fries it came with were crispy and tasty). <br/>I noticed that all the people in that cafe looked like they made an effort and I was the only scruffy one...next time I’ll dress up 😬
Asrin Hussein
Been here several times and love the atmosphere and layout of the cafe. Favourite on the menu is the Shakshuka. Good option for large group bookings. Also great coffee!
Yuko Saito
I went there for a breakfast on Sunday, and loved the fact that it was open at 7.30am! <br/><br/>Utterly beautiful interior, and very relaxing atmosphere. However, I found the food to be a bit pricy compared to other similar type of cafe, and the portion size was really massive. I had the French toast but I couldn’t finish the meal. <br/><br/>I would also ask for maple syrup on the side next time coz it was almost swimming in them.
Jasveen Kaur
Been here a couple of times now. Once by myself to do some study, staff were lovely, the ham hock part of the ham hock Benedict was bland and not seasoned well so was disappointed. Major points for creativity with flavours though. Came back with the partner and very much enjoyed the mushrooms and chorizo! He had the salmon Benedict and it was yummy, the garlic mash probs wasn’t garlicky enough, that was the only problem. Coffee was good. Iced chocolate was good. Cool outdoor area for a kids. Really nice place overall.

Saturday morning brunch. Perfect eggs benedict w/ salmon. Amazing coffee and highly attentive staff. One of the best cafes i have visited in NZ

This is such a lovely cafe in the heart of Coatesville.... Eating here is like coming home.... always busy.... great food......<br/><br/>The chef's have produced a great menu and along with the great service it's a magical place to have a meal....
Katherine Ann-Marie
My favourite place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Always amazing food and drink, great service and a lovely atmosphere. The smashed advocado is the BEST, as is the dinner menu. It's pretty easy to stay all day, and it's always a great place to meet. 5 stars!
Bambi
Their coffee is perfect - smooth and strong. Their food is amazing as well. Had smashed avocado, shakshuka and game chips. Yum! Their desserts looked delicious as well but we were too full to have more. Try and book in advance as it's always packed with people. Has playground outside for kids to play and nice country side view around the cafe too.
Ottohan
Highly recommended the food is amazing especially the avo chicken salad and all the desserts. The people working are friendly and very helpful, the owners are awesome.

We turned up at 1300hrs without a booking on a public holiday. The place was packed. We were lucky to get a table within 10 minutes. We waited another 10 mins before any drink orders were taken but it was incredibly busy. The food and service once we ordered were fantastic. We had beef cheeks and salt and pepper squid. Couldn't be faulted. Will definitely be back again sometime but might book next time.
Mysticmojito
Really enjoyed both visits here, once for lunch and once for a long lunch and will certainly be back for supper! Pleasant helpful staff and an appealing cabinet selection. Nice ambience. Interesting menu, great coffee. I'd recommend booking if you plan to visit on a market day!<br/><br/>Definitely worth a stop if you're passing through.

Amazing food, early Birthday dinner with the family. Service was a little slow but it was Good Friday and they had a full house so maybe didn't anticipate being so busy to staff fully. But it didn't affect the food and evening at all. Have highly recommend people for dinner already.
Amanda Dunn
Great food and superb service. Had an awesome night here for my mums birthday. They were really attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly down to the timing of the cake coming out. We're definitely coming back!

Can be very busy and cramped, but have never been turned away. Coffee is generally ok. Menu is ok, but have had mixed experiences with the food. Have only been for lunch and have never had a bad meal, but many things sound better when you read the meal than they actually are. A few dishes have made people I've dined with say they felt unwell (not food poisoning, just too rich or too big a portion). Staff are friendly and efficient.

One of the best meals I've had in Auckland this year. We had their famous beef Wellington and duck confit as well as the daube de beef. The beef Wellington was a standout (no wonder it's their signature dish). The flavours of the duck confit was good, though would've the duck leg itself was a bit on the small side. For dessert we had the Varlhona chocolate mousse, and it's the only reason why this review is 4.5 instead of 5. Frankly, the consistency was much more like a fudge. Nothing at all like the light and airy mousse that we had been expecting. The peanut butter ice cream that came with the dish was pretty good, though. All in all, great atmosphere and lovely find. Would definitely return but would skip the mousse the next time.

What an absolute gem! This gorgeous (not so little) cafe was amazing. We arrived at 12pm with the place absolutely buzzing but there was certainly room for us. Such a beautiful country cafe, a lovely interior, cute play area outside for the kids and an awesome vibe. The service was incredible and very friendly. We got the bacon eggs benedict which I could definitely say was the best eggs bene I've ever had. The ice chocolate was yummy with ice cream in it as a twist. The only thing I would say was that it tasted like milk with a bit of chocolate powder over the top, could have added more chocolate but other than that, everything was amazing. Will definitely be returning again soon!

Arrived at 10.30am for brunch.  The place was buzzing!   Didn't make a booking as we didn't <br/><br/>realise how popular Black Cottage Cafe was.   We waited a couple of minutes and then we were guided to a table.   It has such a lovely feel - very relaxing.  There is a little playground outside for kids.   We ordered the Coconut French Toast and the Mushrooms with Chorizo's and a side of bacon.   It would have to be the most flavoursome mushroom dish ever  - the side of bacon was definitely not necessary.   The french toast was beautifully presented and was so nice.   The menu was amazing!   Something for every taste.   The service was great, the food delicious.   Cannot wait to go back - will try their lunch menu next time.
Richard Ransfield
Had a tasty chicken and avo salad which had a nice balance of ingredients nicely presented! my wife had the smashed avocado with eggs and green hollandaise which she enjoyed it was only 4 the coffee that she had to send bk that the waitress got wrong would of been a perfect score worth a visit busy buzzy cafe

AMBIANCE: From the city, it's the perfect amount of driving to feel detached and relaxed. Really quaint little cafe in the country with a well laid out bar and seating area in the back. Views of the countryside and a lack of cityscape is the highlight of this place.<br/>SERVICE: Quick, friendly and funny. Good.<br/>COFFEE: Allpress beans but coffee was luke warm and not very strong, especially odd being in a small cup (smaller cup=less milk/more coffee=stronger taste)<br/>FOOD: Very good. Everything was cooked to perfection and used fresh, wholesome ingredients. <br/>PRICE: Reasonable so long as the quality stays high and the coffee gets better. Otherwise a little on the high side.<br/><br/>OVERALL: A great weekend cafe when you've got time to explore north Aucklands inland countryside. An effortless trip to a gem of a cafe that feels much further abroad.

Caught up for lunch with a friend. Lovely cafe. Beautiful setting. Seems like you are going on a road trip to get there, yet it is so close to Albany. Only took me 8 minutes to get there from Massey University. Worth every minute. The food was great. Good value for money, and very satisfying. Staff are friendly too. Very happy with the service I received. Will definitely make the Black Cottage Cafe a regular spot.

We had our wedding at Black Cottage Café last week. We had 66 guests who were greeted with a glass of bubbles, appetizers and followed by a three course meal with four choices for each course.<br/><br/>My husband and I can’t speak highly enough of our experience.<br/><br/>They did an amazing job setting up all of our floral arrangements and decorations to create a rustic/vintage feel.<br/> The food was exquisite! Beautifully presented and we were all served at the same time. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. <br/>Nothing was a hassle. There were no problems or interruptions. And at the end of the night, two lovely waitresses neatly packaged up all of our flowers, decorations and cake for us to pick up the next day.<br/><br/>We found the Black Cottage team to be a wonderful group of people who are customer focused and seriously passionate about food and we are truly grateful for all their hard work in making our night so special.

Absolutely loved this venue for my best friends wedding. The food was amazing, fresh and looked beautiful, ample seating for all the guests and the garden area was perfect for our dance floor. Staff were lovely to deal with and service was top notch! Thank you Black Cottage :-)

Black Cottage Cafe is simply wonderful. <br/>The experience begins from the moment you walk in the door. The ambiance has been well thought out and compliments its country setting perfectly. <br/>The Cabinet is difficult to walk past as its always full of new and exotic treats garnished with edible flowers! The staff are personable and professional, in other words the best :) and the coffee... wow.. <br/>Its literally perfect every time.<br/>The menu has been designed with an artistic flare and you can taste the quality in every ingredient. Fresh Herbs are grown in the garden next to the play area for kids and the list goes on.<br/><br/>This cafe is definitely worth trying if you haven't already

First visit to Black Cottage cafe after reading the amazing reviews I was expecting nothing less. The service, atmosphere and good was absolutely amazing. A relaxing environment with beautiful scenery. My partner ordered the Vietnamese Salad, he really enjoyed it however he thought that the prawns would be much bigger. Other than that the food was amazing, the game fries really hit the spot and so flavoursome. Definitely keen to come back here again!<br/><br/>Second visit: I got the Shashuka and my partner got the pork sliders. It was my first time trying Shashuka and it was very tasty! The smooth and creamy feta really balanced out the strong tomato taste. The grilled ciabatta really complemented the dish. My partners pulled pork sliders was wonderful, just melted in my mouth. The coleslaw added a lovely texture to the buns. Overall it was another pleasant lunch.

Love this place. It definitely lives up to the 'hidden gem' tag as it is in Coatesville and so a little out the way - but well worth the effort. I went for brunch and had the Black Cottage Cafe Breakfast. It was absolutely delicious and was great value for money. The eggs were cooked to perfection and my friend said the chorizo sausage was yummy. The staff were very accommodating and the food came really quickly. The back of the restaurant has an amazing garden which is also good for kids to play in. The interior is really well decorated and the place has a real buzz to it when it's busy (it was packed). The coffee is Allpress and made really well. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to others to head out to Coatesville.

Smashed Avocado, Smashed Avocado, Smashed Avocado. So good that it needed to be repeated thrice. Loved this place & it's such a well kept secret!
Carla
Found this little gem today and it left a great impression. You know how you walk into a place for the first time and you're not sure if you are meant to order at the till or sit down and someone will take your order...this was one of this times, but the staff quickly guided us and we got started. We shared the Pulled Pork Sliders and the Cuban Sandwich. It was a great way to try a couple of things. The portion sizes were really generous for both meals. The sliders were tasty and flavoursome and came with yummy crunchy game fries and the Cuban had Sweet potato chips - yum!! Both meals were really tasty, I think we both preferred the sliders, but we are partial to these anywhere we go. The Cuban sandwich was great, only constructive criticism is that it could benefit from a chutney or sauce to help keep everything from being a little dry, but that's just not picking. <br/>Staff were really friendly and this place is clearly popular with locals. Will definitely return when in the area (or the mood for sliders!) <br/>Thanks
Josh O'Hanlon
After being lost for a good 45mins I found this place. As I was so late I didn't bother to order food and hold up my company. The duck was highly recommended, but sadly there was a lack of vegan options for most of my table who were stuck with fries.
Kate Martin
This morning we visited Black Cottage, forgetting it was Fathers Day. We waited a moment in the foyer on arrival to see if we needed to be seated but nobody noticed so we found a table ourselves (there were lots of vacant tables to choose from). A waitress (who seemed lovely) came and gave us some menus and we ordered coffees. Our drinks were served and then what seemed to be the manager came over to us and told us that the table had actually been reserved for another group. When we mentioned that there was no reserved sign he told us that all the tables were reserved because of Father's Day. Although he did offer to move the three of us to another very small table, we decided to leave as we were not impressed with his rude manner. Looked very strange when there were plenty of tables available still. I don't think we will be back. We found a lovely place to have breakfast afterwards who were very accommodating. <br/>To prevent this happening again and to ensure all your guests feel welcome, it might be good to put reserved signs down on the tables or even signs to say "this table is reserved for 10am, but feel free to use the table until then" as the cafe did that we ended up at.
Brendan Barry-Walsh
Friendly efficient staff, warm atmosphere, obliging and best of all - clean toilets! Coffee good rather than exceptional and a $2 savoury muffin that was very fresh and tasty. <br/><br/>Excellent berry smoothies for the kids and very reasonable pricing - smartly modern and retro fit out<br/>
Maria
A warning for others, I was called for a job trial for waitressing at this cafe, the manager/owner barely said two words to me, I was left doing dishes most of the day and there just happened to be a big function on so it was obviously useful for someone to be doing the dishwashing.. the manager ends up just leaving half way through my "trial" without saying anything. End up working for nearly 5 hours doing the same thing and was told I would be contacted about a job in a few days. A week and a half later and heard nothing so I contact them and she replies by saying she couldn't find my contact details, even though she has my cv and was easily able to contact me the week before.. very unprofessional and definitely wont be coming back to this cafe.
House Of Eats
This is a hidden West Auckland cafe in the middle of Coatesville. This cafe serves up the best potato and kumera fries hands down! The cuban sandwich is amazingly meaty and cheesy! The vietnamese salad is amazing - seriously is - it has crunchy bits of unexpected toffee scattered throughout the salad. Highly recommend this place - not only for the food - but the decor is rustic and yet has a shabby chic feel to it. Kid friendly as it offers an outdoor swing and slide too! Its something youd expect it Kingsland!

Lovely place for a meal and very child friendly. Good menu and s good for breakfast. Great coffee. I recommend the breakfast risotto. Well worth a visit

We've been here a few times and the food and service has been consistently good.<br/><br/>Previous orders have included the smashed eggs with avocado, eggs benedict, the cafe breakfast and the steak sandwhich.  All have been a good start to the day before we walk around the Coatesville markets.<br/><br/>However, on this recent visit we had the ploughmans platter and the Paper Moon beans and bacon.  My partner said the beans and bacon were better than the actual ones from the actual Paper Moon cafes.  <br/><br/>The free range pork terrine was very, very tasty and the housemade piccalilli was a lovely condiment with the cheese and perfectly grilled bread.  My only wish was that I had maybe a bit more cheese, and perhaps less salad or minus the aubergine type of relish. I did also order some bacon on the side, but it definitely wasn't needed.  I was just being naughty!<br/><br/>Coffee was allpress, and it was made perfectly, and the service was fine.

This cafe is landscaped with a water feature and seating  outside and nicely decorated inside.  We came at an inconvenient time unfortunately, towards the end of their day, and they had removed the cabinet food which was put aside, but we still managed to order a piece of chocolate tiramisu and white chocolate cake and coffees.  The coffees and cakes were so so, and nothing to write home about.  It could be just bad timing as far as overall experience goes, but the service girl was friendly regardless.  We may try this place for a cooked breakfast or lunch at another time as it looks very popular and perhaps worth another visit.
Marilyn Moore
Food is great, brunch divine, such a different menu which is a refreshing change from the standard eggs benedict. The outside area is lovely and one of the best play areas for kids I've seen at a cafe. Will definitely be back. Does pay to book if you are going the same day as the Coatesville market.
David Boshier
This is a true destination if you want a try into the country for breakfast. You are met with great service and fantastic coffee. All followed by a fresh, tasty dish prepared with love.<br/><br/>They do the staples well. Recommend the chicken livers & egg Benedict.<br/><br/>

Excellent food and service. Friendly without being overbearing. Nice outside covered area. Chicken livers are outstanding. Well worth the drive.<br/><br/>Revisited again Jul 15 - excellent experience again. The pork sandwich was really tasty with efficient friendly and even on a busy day.

Outstanding! Dinner with friends on a Friday night.<br/><br/>We ordered 6 entrees between the 5 of us as there were just too many delicious samples to try! Bottle of wine and dessert - Choc Brownie with warmed choc sauce was divine!!<br/><br/>Maybe have bigger bottles for water would be good idea when large table.<br/><br/>We will be back and looking forward to happy hour cocktail night on a Friday too :)

went to black cottage this friday morning. I walk in and there was not friendly greetings from anyone. I come here regualerly with friends and today it was not up to scratch ! went outside and asking the lady who is the onwer if anyone was sitting at a particular table she said no they moved inside, she was not very friendly or polite. i sat for about 15 minutes until a waitress came up to me and asked if i was waiting for others and i said yes and ordered a coffee . Took another 15 minutes for coffee to come . Meanwhile the owner was happy to greet other costumers and take orders from them , while i sat still with no water . She also slyly took the sugar off my table and took it to another . Differently got the feeling that other tables were more important than mine . Friends arived and I had said to the girl earlier that we would be eating and maybe 20 minutes after my friends arrive we had to go and get menus and i ordered the french toast , which was a big let down . way to eggy and the pecan butter was horrible , it seems think if was trying to be to fancy and was really not great at all , also dont understand their homemade watties jam ?? bit of a let down as usually its awesome

It's 3pm on Mothers Day and in a vain attempt to redeem a lunch that never was, we wonder into Black Cottage Cafe. The place is bustling, however, appears organized. In anticipation of rejection I meekly ask for a table for 5. In the blink of an eye two tables are placed together and a chair added. Fresh minted water and glasses are placed on the table by an attentive waitress. We unload our drinks and meal orders. In 10 minutes we have drinks. 20 meals after that fine meals arrive. They must have been good as after the initial ohhh's and ahhh's not a word was spoken for the next 10 minutes nor a morsel left at the end of our feasting. We plan to visit again soon. Would be great to make this place our local haunt, time will tell so for now it's 4 stars : )

Visited in December when our daughter was over with her baby from Hong Kong... She just loved the outdoor grassed area (not a lot of that in HK)!!! Service was great. Food absolutely delicious. So good we returned the following week. My husband and I have been back since and look forward to the cafe being open longer hours.

Really enjoyed the food, service and outdoor area. Perfect on a sunny mid-morning.

Lovely ambience, yummy food and creatively served drinks. Friendly helpful service, beautiful location out the back. Please do something about the flies around the tables indoors and the cabinet food though. Also, the entrance/exit, till and kitchen entry, is all in the same place and gets very congested and awkward. Will definitely go back though.

A friend and I lunched here last week at her recommendation. The food, service, staff, atmosphere, prices were all amazing with great parking out front. Would recommend to all, I really hope these guys win something in the best café awards as they certainly deserve it! Will be back.

Why would you go anywhere else ???<br/><br/>This cafe is absolutely idylic. Situated a very short drive to Coatesville. Beautiful atmosphere in a country setting... but that's not the best part....<br/><br/>The food is absolutely impeccably scrumptuos..and different. Choose from a fantastic menu (my favorite is the coconut French toast with pecan butter ) or one of the beautiful daily baked offerings.<br/><br/>The staff are unbelievably professional. Nothing is a problem. Fanatic tan<br/><br/>I eat at a lot of cafes.... Not sure how anyone could beat this ! You are in for a treat !<br/><br/>Beavan Graham

Myself and three friends had breakfast at Black Cottage Cafe, Coatesville. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is amazing. Fabulous food selection. A beautiful venue with outside seating. We were all impressed and I am going back next Sunday for lunch with family.

Go here! Take a lazy drive and make a point of stopping here! Pretend you are going to the DOTCOM mansion around the corner instead if you have too.<br/><br/>We were out for a drive last Sunday in search of breakfast and drove past this place with a very quick stop and reverse.<br/><br/>This is a wee oasis of wow in the middle of the Coatesville countryside. This is a cafe that prides itself on being a little different. <br/><br/>The staff were great and friendly and the menu actually had different things on it. Yes there were the mandatory eggs bene etc but they also do things like Welsh Rarebit and Mexican mince on toast. The servings are huge and the price reflects that but have to say all in all it represents value.<br/><br/>The food was top notch and the coffee just right so credit to the kitchen and baristas. They also have a bar so I assume you can stealth in here for a quiet one on a lazy afternoon. <br/><br/>The only reason I did not give a 5? This is really tough but the side of chorizo was just standard and didn't have the pop that the rest of the menu did. <br/><br/>Do try the game fries with smokey aioli - just come here hungry.
