Review Dos Amigos - Auckland

Michael Davidson
I've been here a few times now. The atmosphere is quite nice - there was lives music the last time I went and there is a lot of decor, including a bearded dragon. The guys is pretty good and the portions aren't so big you feel bloated afterwards. Will definitely come back at some point

Though it was very busy found the friendly staff very attentive and efficient handling multiple customers at the same time and not missing a beat. Food was very tasty and well presented and great selection of imported beverages which help make the total experience very enjoyable. Parking can be a little challenging during peak periods but well worth the effort šŸ˜€

Will definitely come back! So glad I left my cost hotel in the city to visit this authentic Mexican restaurant. The set up, margarita, food and free salsa and corn chips took me right back to my trip through the states. Had the rib special so very happy with the price and the meal was delicious

Busy when I visited Saturday for lunch, however service was prompt and efficient. Good $15.50 lunch menu option as well as a full menu option. Wings were tasty and the overall food was plentiful and tasty. Plenty of Mexican beers to choose from as well as other brands. Well worth a visit and the view on a clear day was impressive.

Busy Mexican restaurant. Come in-early or book early for secure sitting. Indoor & outdoor sitting available. Busy & friendly staff. Pork ribs were tender juicy & off the bone. Tender Grilled chicken served with lots of black beans. Tequila sludge was a bit on sweet side. Try their signature Nachos served with avocado & melted cheese. For birthday parties....staff will sing Mexican birthday songs. Ponchos are provided if your are feeling chilly

The best authentic Mexican food in Auckland. The sunset view was good. Tacos, Nachos are the best.

Loved it, my son took me for dinner for Mother's day as he'll be working tomorrow. AWESOME service, AWESOME food, great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, will definitely be back at some stage.
Julian McCracken
Great tasting food in a relaxed environment. Staff were great and gave us complimentary corn chips on arrival. Kids menu available. Good filling portions at a fair price.

You definitely have to go here sometime! The food is so good, the atmosphere is perfect and the staff are so friendly. I'm definitely looking forward to eating here again and trying more stuff from their menu!

Food is tasty. Try the homemade salsas habenero and chipotle with your fajitas and bean and chip dip. Great customer service. Friendly staff. Clean toilets.
Gemma Wells
Loved it. The atmosphere was really nice and the portions were huge. We went just before it got busy and the food came out really quickly so would definitely come again.

Shout out to our server today Kal. Some of the best customer service I've ever had in mission bay. Absolutely above and beyond.

Went here last night for dinner & it was brilliant, had Mild buffalo wings & glad we didnā€™t go hotter. Highly recommend the Chicken, bacon & potato chowder. Hubby had Chilli con-carne. My 13yo has 1/2 rack ribs with chips. Staff were polite, professional, beer & cider choices were very refreshing & my sons cranberry juice was lovely. Well worth stopping & very glad we did for our first night in Auckland. Cheers & well done guys, hats off to ya from us Aussies!

Came here last night for the first time, exceptional service, incredible food - the best chicken fajitas i have eveeer had and the most amazing mojito cocktail i have ever had! Will definitely be back!!
Alexandra Smith
Amazing food and service. Drinks and food was brought out efficiently by the friendly and helpful staff. Really generous sizing too, especially for the price.

Been to this restaurant, friendly staff and friendly food for my tummy ļæ½ as I had very bad stomach problem when I ate the original Mexican food in LA ļæ½
Parit Mittal
Nice place with nice view, nachos are awesome, had mexican beer dosļæ½ļæ½, loved it
Matt Steinbring
I've been eating and drinking at dos for over 6 years. Never have i had a bad experience. The customer service is great and the food is authentic and beautiful. It has an amazing family orientated feel and my kids love it. Thank you. Keep up the great work
Michelle Johns
Customer service was awful, felt like they were pushing us out the door as soon as we sat down & beef nachos I ordered lacked ingredients on top compared to other Mexican places that have been better value & generous.
Sabrina R Robati
Came last year in December with work team. Everyone had a good time, not sure about my chicken meal... was tasty at the time... sent feedback to manager. Responded and offered something in the post... delay maybe. I really did enjoy the atmosphere and service with my workmates but just fell a teeny tiny bit, I believe, with my dish (everyone else's dish was good, thank god). ļæ½

Awesome food, very quick service and friendly waitress - highly recommended Wish SA had such a Restaurant
Shreya Hegde
So we were a group of four who headed here for lunch on Sunday afternoon.... Food was great, service was quick and efficient, friendly staff, great view facing the bay.. Lovely outing for our girl gang

This used to be one of our fave Mexican restaus, however, when we went here for dinner, the foods are not great as before. The chimichanga's bean was served cold, the chicken buffalo were dry and the braised beef tacos aren't tasty as before. Moreover, during payment, the staff member didn't look pleased when I told him I'd be paying via zomato. We definitely not comin back.

Best Mexican food I have had in Auckland so far!<br/>Service is amazing! Very attentive and active staff, warm and welcoming. <br/>Food: Absolutely delicious! And generous portions! <br/>We ordered the chicken nachos, pork ribs, buffalo wings and the brownie to end along with drinks. Every single dish was yummy!<br/>Atmosphere: Lively and happy!<br/>BEST PART: They are very serious about gluten free food. My partner is borderline celiac and none of the dishes gave him a reaction. Thank you Dos Amigos for that!<br/>We shall definitely visit again!
Amod Indap
Nice ambience, loved their buffalo wings. Taco was alright, chipotle sauce did amp up the flavor. Staff was friendly, guess they had just opened up so they seemed kinda tied up. Might help checking for their recommendations. Location is unbeatable.

I took my family for a dinner on Sat night. The place was not very big but nice and cute. Staff were friendly and service was good. We booked a table ahead so no worries finding a table for 9 people. Also live music was on and got them to sing HBD for me. We got to put the hats on too so it was fun for taking photos. <br/>We ordered Taco salad (grilled chicken/beef), tequila lime chicken, chipotle prawns, veg chimichangas and kids meals. Chicken and prawns dishes were nice, my family liked them but grilled beef was bit tough. My veg chimichanga looked nice but was bland and needed some more salt as per my taste so I don't really like it.<br/>The price was quite high but with Zomato Gold we saved a lot. I might go again and try other Veg dishes and see if any better.<br/><br/>Overall experience : 8.5/10

The server was awesome. And the food was really nice traditional Mexican food. We tried 3 cocktails sangria, pina collada and Margarita all were really nice. We loved it.
Lilly Chan

Had an amazing time at Dos Amigos from booking the reservation with Sam who was absolutely fantastic and couldnā€™t offer more when we said we had our 8 year old with us certainly went the extra mile.<br/>The food and atmosphere was perfect on a beautiful night with great music included. Next time we come we will definitely sit outside.<br/>Congratulations to the manager and his amazing team best night out in awhile and will definitely be back. AAA++++
Chanelle Taylor
Ambience and service good but unfortunately the food was not that great
Libby
I sat outside due to not being able to climb stairs. As soon as I sat down asked for I'd or credit card, this has never happened before, she said they ask everyone who sits outside. Order meals and while waiting two other lots of people sat in other tables, she did not ask them for their I'd. Daughter ordered her corn chips and I order Apple chimchinga. They did not deliver my meal until daughter had finished hers. Overall service by female not good.
Sheryl Van Breda
Food was bland - buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese - definitely no blue cheese - other meals not enjoyable either - manager was rude and confrontational - certainly will not be going back - miss the Dos of old when Lizard was in charge!!!
Gaurav Jagwani
If you Love Mexican, this is the place guys..... You will feel that you are there!!!! Superb Variety with awesome service and on top of that, the location is perfect.... Highly Highly recommended!! Must visit and repeat destination for Mexican Food Lovers!!!! Must Try :- Nachos & Quesadillas!!!
David
Craved Mexican this evening and enjoyed an early dinner with my boys. Luckily we arrived early as we hadnā€™t booked and the place quickly filled up. Shared the grand nachos (beef) and each had chicken and beef tacos (2 each) - tasty and filling, despite the tacos arriving smaller than I expected. A few drinks including a Sol to help wash it down. Hadnā€™t been here in ages and the only downer was the windy weather so sitting outdoors wasnā€™t a goer. Will be back.

A family go to, especially in the summer! Always get the nachos, buffalo wings and if itā€™s a lovely day .. a sneaky Heineken. Havenā€™t yet tried anything else on the menu but ups to the chefs for leaving myself & my family satisfied - tough critics. Such a beautiful place located right across from the beach, with waiters who are all SO welcoming & attentive. Coming from a hospo background myself itā€™s nice walking in to new places with workers who make you feel at home. Partly why we come back !! All in all, thank you to the entire team for the amazing work. Keep it up šŸ¤© <br/><br/>Buffalo Wings - 8/10 (personally prefer hotter)<br/>Nachos - 8/10<br/>Heineken - Canā€™t fault a good Heiney on a day like this! <br/><br/>See you all soon!!
Foodlover
Although their mains are a bit pricey, their lunch specials are SO GOOD!! Got myself the wrap and curly fries and my boyfriend got the Mexican burger and mannnn we are most definitely going again soon!!
Igor Biryukov
Such a lovely place with friendly staff and great food. We had a chicken burrito and a quesadilla. Both yum, but the chicken burrito was the best I've tried in Auckland! It was massive, had so much flavour to it and came with lots of yummy sauce. We'll be back for sure.<br/><br/>Also, their bearded dragon Juanita stole my heart!!
Hotanya Ragtah
The food was really good, was great to use zomato gold to get extra food. The chimichangas are heavenly šŸ˜
Riya
Such good fresh food, they have the best ribs and the buffalo Wings are also amazing. Corn chips couldā€™ve been better but minor issue. The cocktail is good and worth the price.
Kirstie Jory
Great food and atmosphere we used our Zomato gold so super great value. Live music did make communicating difficult but was also nice as it added to the atmosphere. Had a delish meal and loved our meals will be back again soon
May Hung
Came here on a weeknight, standard Mexico food, nothing too exciting, the ribs are cooked well and everything else is okay, however price is up there for Mexico food if I donā€™t have Zomato gold. <br/>

We had a hard time choosing what to eat, looking at the choices they had in their menu ā€” we wanted to get, like, 4-5 off the list! We settled for the buffalo wings and the chicken enchilada (with a couple of beers, of course!), and loved it. Weā€™ll definitely be back to try the hero version of the buffalo wings and the fajitas (maybe the nachos too!). The staff who attended to our table the latter part of our stay was a whole lot friendlier and attentive than the first one who got our order (and served) it. The couple beside us got some nachos and dip while waiting, plus choices of hotsauce and a bottle of water and glasses, while we got none of these.
Daniel Campbell
Every time I'm at dos amigos I know I'm going to love every minute! Staff are excellent and food is great too! The atmosphere really adds to the experience. Favourite part is the hero sauce!
Teesh Ianto
Got the chimichunga and nachos. Good portion sizes, nice presentation, service was great and atmosphere! Wish there was more flavour, acidity, saltiness, etc. if you like spice go for the green sauce and chelada with beer :)
Tony Gu
Food was amazing we got the nachos , enchiladas and the beef tacos - we finished it in like 20 minutes - ambience is okay just a bit dark and service was good. They have a bearded dragon though in the restraunt!! Thats a plus lol.
Katharina Wulandari
The best Mexican style restaurant ever. Thanks to Zomato Gold that I can find this hidden gem! The ambience was always cosy and the waiters were super friendly, on top of the excellent quality of the food (I even came here twice in a week!). So far I had tried their ribs, chipotle prawn, and beef burrito. SO SO GOOD (and fresh, not too oily/fatty). I canā€™t decide which one was the best as they were all superb! Portion size was great too as they were just enough to satisfy me. Looking forward to come back again!
Flames And Skewers
Very cool Mexican Place, located facing the beach so that you can have a conversation with your friends while looking out at the sea (or at least towards that side). The food is absolutely brilliant and they have a Zomato Gold affiliation at the time of this writing which made it a brilliant place to have lunch at.
Caleb
Lovely, cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Food was quick to arrive, great portions and tasty. Nice place along Mission Bay to enjoy dinner or lunch. Would definitely recommend.

First of all big thanks and shout out to Luis. He made our visit totally worth. I used my gold privilege here (saved$28). We orders buffalo wings for starter- it was good, liked it. For mains we ordered chipotle prawns (it came with rice and beans) and tequila chicken. Both were yumm. <br/>Bit disappointed with churros as they were slightly eggy (not sure if they are meant to be that way), but not complaining about it. will visit again for sure.
Sharleen
Have been to this place several times. Food looks appealing and has lots of flavours. Customer service is very good, friendly and polite staff who always make you feel welcome. Usually busy during lunch hours but dont have to wait long for your food. Had lunch there for my birthday and the staff gave me complimentary churros after my meal. Outside seating is nice as you can sit and look out towards the beach. Will be returning :)
Nisheeka Lal
We popped in here before the movies and it was very busy but we were still given a table. Great service. There was live music. The food was great. We had the chimichanga and burrito. Both dishes were amazing.

I came here with my partner for lunch on weekend and we ordered Fujitas 2 sets ( beef and snapper ) that were so huge portions šŸ˜ We really enjoyed with the ambience ,the meals and staff was so friendly and so nice.
Persian Foodie
Bland tasting food with high prices. The quesadilla had very little filling, the black beans were bland mush and so was the rice. The nachos, although generous in portion had COLD toppings, dry chicken pieces and the cheese was hardened. Seems like it was pre-made and sitting around for a while. Bland too. A little salt couldnā€™t hurt. The chicken wings were drenched in awful tasting spicy tabasco sauce which was wrongly advertised as buffalo sauce but tasted nothing alike. I had to use a paper towel to dab the excess sauce to eat them. The margarita had a generous amount of alcohol but the salt around the rim was far too thick to enjoy. The chamomile tea was underwhelming. The setting was nice but the food was a disappointment.
Hoana
Portion sizes are great and food was delicious. we ordered the nachos, chimichanga & beef taco. The grande nachos can definitely be shared between 2 people. Service was also very friendly. Great place to come with friends
Wapatino
Really great food and ambiance with live music.<br/>The nachos are enormous and the fajitas are also very much shareable between 2. Prices are a bit steep in relation to what Mexican food usually costs but this place has higher quality food as well. We also tried their classic and passion fruit margarita. I liked the classic better (not as sweet as the passion fruit one).
Neesh
One of my all time fav places to eat! Good size portions, awesome food and drinks, great service and beautiful view! Kid friendly. Could have another partner restaurant in the North Shore too!
Susan Brookes
My partner and I come here all the time, sometimes more than once in a week and we absolutely love it.<br/>They have amazing deals like buy one get one free on margarita Monday's, half price hot wings on Tuesday's and a few others throughout the week.<br/>The staff are super friendly and the food is pretty great but we definitely come for the atmosphere. They do lotteria on Tuesday nights which is kind of like Mexican bingo. It's an absolute laugh and a half and it's just a great night, especially if you have a margarita in hand!<br/>We usually get the hot wings but have tried a bunch of things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet.<br/>Definitely recommend coming here, beautiful view of the beach in mission bay too!

Excellent food. Extremely affordable. Incredible Service. Very helpful waiters/waitresses Great location. Excellent view. Highly recommended

Used zomato gold here. First time visitor. Had the chimichanga and the tequila chicken. Generous portion sizes and really tasty. Canā€™t fault at all. Would visit again.
Boston2809
Excellent food. Best Mexican in Auckland. Great Mexican atmosphere with live music often. Ordered the nachos and quesadillas head and shoulders above the other Mexican places.
Amit Mehta
Elegant Ambience.. lovely staff & welcoming!! Good food with authentic Mexican flavors <br/>Not too noisy !! Great service ! We didnā€™t had to wait long for our food which was the best part :)
Pip
Went here yesterday and they have run out of guac which is fair enough considering the price of avocados these days. I purchased nachos and they tasted alright. Improvement recommendations would be changing the chicken used in them
Lynn Le
We came around 11 30am and was told they were not open for another 15mins (even though their opening hours listed as 11 30 in here). We came specifically for their ribs so we decided to sit and wait. <br/>During this waiting period, we were not offered water or a menu to view while we wait. <br/><br/>Once the kitchen/staffs were ready, they started making round to ask if we were ready to order (none of the tables had been offered any menu yet). <br/>Once the order were place, the other staffs that served us were excellent. The food arrived quickly, the ribs were good, as it would have been freshly made it was tender and juicy. The chipotle prawns were a tad salty for my palate. Curly fries was hot and crunchy šŸ˜‹. <br/><br/>I've used to come here regularly but ever since they've changed management seems like their customer care quality has also dropped.

As soon as we were seated at Dos Amigos Cantina I needed to go and pee.Ā  In the cubicle they have a basin to wash your hands, after washing my hands I turned to the paper towel dispenser, it has one of those sensors you have to press to dispense paper to dry your hands, I pressed, I waived my hand,Ā  I banged on the sensor.Ā  No paper would dispense.Ā  I exited the cubicle, there was another basin with yet another paper dispenser, again I waived my hand in front of the sensor, no paper, thinking I was the only person in the toilet, I said out loud "I don't want to f*ckin' touch you!".Ā  A man peered out from the 2nd cubicle with a bemused look on his face.Ā  Paper then came streaming out of from the dispenser for me to dry my hands.<br/><br/>This was the start of my dining experience at Dos Amigos Cantina and I can tell you it didn't get much better.<br/><br/> And so it was that later<br/>As the miller told his tale<br/>That her face, at first just ghostly<br/>Turned a whiter shade of pale.<br/><br/>Those lyrics are from a song called A Whiter Shade Of Pale, it's the song that was playing through my head during the meal.Ā  Such was the bland appeal of the food served this night.Ā <br/><br/>Mexican food is my one of my faves because of its vibrant colours, zingy flavours and its zest to be anything but dull.Ā  The food at Dos Amigos Cantina had me setting my snooze alarm pretty quickly.Ā  I don't have the motivation right now to go into detail about food, but it bored me.Ā  Ā IĀ  may muster the energy at a later date.Ā  If you've got the hankering for some good Mexican food, I would avoid this place.Ā  If you're drunk and need something in your stomach, this place will do just fine.
Luz !
This place is cool and has a nice Mexican/Latin vibe. The tapas are very good and the combinations are very surprising (fish with black beans paste, etc). Had lots of fun with great live music.
LuNa The TuNa
Nice place for chill with friends at mission bay. Foods and drinks are both good. Service really friendly and politeļ¼ environment is pretty nice too with the relaxed music.

Neat Mexican place with tables outside so that it can accommodate for dogs on leashes as well. Service was great, they came to check on us (including our dogs) regularly. I had the grilled chicken tacos (two for $20.00) and it was really good and just the right portion for me. The fajitas and nachos that we also ordered were massive. Prices are slightly more expensive than other Mexican places but the restaurant is located in Mission Bay. Highly recommended for diners with dogs (with leashes of course).
Sean Narayan
This place was a let down, SO OVER PRICED. Honestly, this place is ridiculously over price. And the food? Itā€™s mediocre, flavourless. Last thing youā€™d want to hear from a Mexican place. The quesadillas were soggy. The meats were so bland. The only thing I liked were the black beans. This place just rips people off. The portions were alright. But seriously, never will come back. The restaurant was nice but the food was so disappointing.
Swetha
I have tried nachos from different places in Auckland but this place is definitely where Iā€™ve had the best nachos. Great customer service, amazing vibes and good food. The food portions are great and the drinks are great as well
Diana Soenarto
Came here for my partners Bday lunch. It was a Sunday and it wasn't that busy. I ordered a chicken wrap and nachos and my bf ordered some chicken taco bowl... šŸ˜‘šŸ˜‘šŸ˜‘šŸ˜‘ I was lost for words when I saw the food. Firstly it looks pale. My wrap wasn't toasted, cheese was stone cold not even melted and I counted 3 small piece of chicken with chopped lettuce and a whole lots of what's tasted like mayo. My bf taco bowl was the same cheese.not melted wet lettuce and 4-5 small piece if chicken. It looked like it was straight out of a microwave. No flavour and tastes and looked pathetic. Def not coming here again.. worst Mexican food ever
Foodlover5
Came here once and ordered a chimichanga, best thing ever and would definitely go back. This review could have been a 5 star if they didnā€™t mistake my friends money thinking she hasnā€™t paid when she already did
Karen
Came here on a hot day and the food was pretty decent but not the best. I felt like the meat in the nachos particularly was quite dry and stringy (almost tasted like canned meat). Iā€™ve had better mexican food and drinks were also pretty average. Service was good though and our food came out fast!
Matchstick Reviews
We went here just before a movie so we had limited time and maybe didn't get the full experience, however, I still relatively impressed with the place.<br/><br/>It's nice and casual with an awesome summery vibe where you can sit outside and maybe spot some cool cars that cruise by. Because we had a movie to catch they sped up our order which was great, meaning that their service was excellent.<br/><br/>The food was so so, the nachos were average if we are being honest. They were quite basic and a bit cheap feeling. The tacos however, were delicious and catered for gluten intolerant individuals which was great! The tortillas themselves were a win (for a start they were corn which is much better than flour if you ask me) and they didn't break. The filling was good, maybe a tad inconsistent with the flavours with the first mouthful having a large hit of lime compared to the rest.<br/><br/>Overall, we definitely need to go back and maybe update this review. But, the food was good not great. The service was excellent, the price was fair and most importantly for a Mexican restaurant it was very relaxed and easy.
Floyd Moratti
Itā€™s a great spot in Mission Bay with nice food and alcohol. You can have a meal with the beach in view. The staff are super friendly and provide prompt service. Iā€™ve never had a problem getting a table as their usually not too busy in my experience. The price gets a little up there though, but I guess you have to pay for location location location

Great Location. Great Service. Great Food. Ribs have always been a hit and never a miss as this place. Spicy dishes are a flavoursome spicy too and not just spicy for the heck of it. Lots of gluten free options.
PK
Loved the nachos, full of flavour and excellent to share. Margaritas are very nice . Traditional Mexican flavours. Will be back to try more of the other food.
Kasi.2102.v
I used to be a regular at this place. Their sweet tasting margaritas are good for a lazy summer afternoon. My most recent visit was not a happy one. We ordered nachos and quesadilla to go along with the mex taxi ride. We had the food before i could say hello to my friend and even before we saw the margarita being made. It was dry and microwaved. Left us with a bad taste for the place. The staff are very friendly though. And worst part was it was on christmas eve.
Dlainee.900.clubpenguin
Favourite restaurant in Auckland, if not the world. Service is lacking at times and can sometimes take a while to get your food, but the food is always 10/10. Great atmosphere too.
Tess Austin
This is my regular restaurant for an authentic Mexican fix! I love this place and will continue to come for its great atmosphere and delicious food!
Wanderlazed
I like how friendly and authentic the staff are. The fact that they speak Spanish adds to the ambiance. The interior gives you a feel of the cuisine so thatā€™s a plus for people who are big on visual experience. The food was not too bad for Mexican. To be honest, itā€™s not easy to find great Mexican restos in NZ so this is a good go to place when craving. Overall, I would come back. Why not?
Erika Gualberto
We ordered nachos to share, buffalo wings and quesadilla. The nachos was really a big serving, there were four us but we were not able to finish it. It was overloaded with toppings -- sour cream (mayo or I think), guacamole, olives, jalapeƱos and cheese. We enjoyed the chicken, which is mildly spicy. The quesadilla was served with a side of mexican red rice, some mashed red or black beans. It was all in all a decent meal.
_foodfanatic
we love this place. One of our favourite restaurants that we visit quiet often. The service is good . The place decorated really well and there are 2 little animals thatā€™s in the back which is cool to look at and Kees the kids entertained. The pricing is reasonable. The taste is very good. The food we ordered for our child was so much food. But itā€™s nice the order includes a drink and dessert. Will Definitely continue to visit this restaurant.
Winnie
Amazing place for a quick bite and amazing summer margaritas. In the pics chicken nachos and burrito with curley fries.<br/><br/>Pricewise: $50 for 2. <br/>Returns: yes. Its a few of the good places at mission bay.
Gayatrisawe
I absolutely love this place and have been going here for the past 4 years.<br/><br/>The staff and ambience is really good. The staff is very friendly.<br/><br/>Food-<br/><br/>Spicy queso bits- the flavour is really good. Crispy on the outside with a beautiful spicy cheesy mix in the middle bursting out.<br/><br/>Buffalo wings- had ordered the medium and the sauce was really good.<br/><br/>Blackened Prawns- the prawns were cooked to perfection and the spice mix is very well balanced and they serve the prawns with sour cream and guacamole which soothes the palate and pairs up very well with the spicy prawns.<br/><br/>Mocha flan- absolutely creamy, silky smooth dessert <br/><br/>And I absolutely love the strawberry margarita.<br/><br/>Amazing job!!! Definitely coming back here over n over again.
Michael Swinburn
What a terrible experience. Went for a date before the movies, and ordered the ceviche ($26) as an entree and the prawn fajita ($36) as a main. They arrived at the same time. The ceviche was rubbery and dry, mixed with shredded lettuce and what seemed like store bought lime juice. The fajitas had no flavour. No authenticity. We politely apologised and mentioned that we were a bit disappointed (because thatā€™s what youā€™re supposed to do) and a person came over, said he was the owner and proceeded to yell at us for 5 minutes. He literally said: ā€œOur food is 99% awesome, and Iā€™m never going to see you again because I know youā€™re not coming back, you can leave a bad review - I donā€™t care!ā€ Honestly, Iā€™ve never experienced this rudeness in New Zealand. If youā€™re a foodie, a Kiwi, or appreciate politeness, this is NOT the place for you. #disgusting #rude
David Macdonald
Crazy expensive. $27 dollars for a burrito. Also got asked for card at the start as if I looked like I was going to do a runner. Food ok and filling
Candidreview@gastronomy
actually a great place where we can get all mexican beers and nice spanish food .the owners are very nice down to earth and simple. must recommend to those who loves rustic bars
Wawman
Best mexican food experience ever! Finally we found a place where we can satisfy our mexican food cravings! They offer lunch specials that wonā€™t break the bank. Their bbq ribs are a must try! We only ordered half rack but the serving was so generous! Worth coming back šŸ‘šŸ¼ see photo for the list of food we ordered. Btw, we had no left overs. Thatā€™s how we enjoyed every bite šŸ˜‹

parking: plenty of parking across the road. we came after work on a Monday night so parking was easy to find. (might need to factor this in for peak hours in summer as mission bay is always packed)<br/><br/>restaurant is on the small-scale so it will be good to call in advance and book a table. for a Monday it was quite packed and we reserved a table of 8.<br/><br/>staff was very friendly and accommodating how ever being that it was quite packed and loud caused a communication barrier I don't think the lovely waitress & my team member could hear each other properly so she got his order wrong.<br/><br/>there was 8 us and we ordered a while range of things to eat. Everyone was impressed with there choices.<br/><br/>So far fav dishes of the night<br/>nacho portion sizes: humongous! you can share this 3-4 so if you love nachos and have a big appetite then you won't be disappointed here.we had both chicken & beef another big hit was the chicken chimichungas, buffalo wings I myself ordered the BBQ ribs (half rack) with the kumara wedges!!everything on this plate was delicious! I'm not lying even the slaw was delicious.. my whole plate was gone šŸ˜‚<br/><br/>Will I come back most def. will bring my family here purely for the food & laughs<br/><br/>

Went for a first meal on a date . Food was so bad all we could taste was salt in both meals. Traveling for work have to be the worst meal ever had. Could honestly not even taste the ingredients in the meal. Service was friendly and amazing otherwise.

This restaurant was very busy on the night we came on a super cold night. We found everyone seated very closely to each other which was a little tricky getting around tables etc. Not a lot of elbow room. We had 2 vegans, one vegetarian and a fully fledged meat eater so not the easiest of customers granted. Vegans ordered enchiladas sans the dairy food. The tortillas were sadly baked so dry and hard I actually just removed the filling and left the tortilla. Not a lot of flavour either in the filling so I asked the waitress for some hot sauces to flavour it. Everyone found their meal a wee tad bland, not really the typical mexican spices and flavours we were hoping for sadly. But it was a busy night for them and I guess we are just used to spicier foods!

Dos Amigos offers very generous portions. I ordered the enchiladas and nachos. Both were cooked very well and very fulfilling. The entree nachos by itself is enough to fill you up. The service was also very positive as they ensured everyone got the food the requested. Very capable staff. I would definitely visit again.

This place is always bustling and has an amazing vibe at night. Food is delicious with complementary chips and salsa while you wait. Almost always go for the taco salad and the chicken quesadillas. A very unique restaurant with a lizard and the occasional mariachi if youā€™re lucky. Overall a decent Mexican option for a date or just a good night out.
GirlOnTheMove
I can never get enough of their nachos! I have been here for more than 5 times now, and no matter how much I want to try their order dishes as well, I end up ordering chicken nachos even though I feel it's little too high priced. But then serves the best nachos in town and their quantity amaze me!!<br/><br/>The ambience is nice, the staff is friendly and the service is quick. Overall, I would recommend you to go there and have their nachos, the next time you are in mission bay. :D

By far the best Mexican restaurant Iā€™ve been to. I first went when they had just opened up and after that I was totally hooked. The owner lizard is such a good man and all the staff r wonderful. I highly recommend this place. Love love love the food šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Best place to eat in summers specially when you sitting outside. Nice service n best nachos. Had really good time there. Will come back for sure

This place is definitely a great place for good service and ambience. The taste and the decoration of the food are quite catchy. Anyway, it is not recommended for cheese avoidance as most of the food that Iā€™d ordered were creamy creamy with cream and cheese and avocado mashed :D <br/><br/>Will be there again!

This place is great if your looking for amazing food and friendly service. The food there is hearty especially after a dip at the beach, and their desserts just hits the spot that you wanted it to. I would definitely recommend coming to dine here as an experience, and if you get the el grande beef nachos, as in the picture below, it would easily feed two hangry diners like my partner and I ā¤ļø.

This place is great to come with friends for a night to catch up. Food is alright - nothing too amazing! Reasonable pricing. Good service - food can take a while so have patience! Nice drinks list - I love their sangarias

We came to Dos Amigos on a Monday and were so surprised at how busy it was! We were seated and served promptly. The meals didnā€™t take too long to arrive and they were decent sized too. I got the quesadilla with a salad which took up an entire big plate. Two of my friends got the nachos and both couldnā€™t finish them! Leaving a dinner actually full is rare for me so I was stoked. The price isnā€™t too bad, especially for the size. We were slightly disappointed they didnā€™t offer us to see the desert menu though, especially because we had been on Zomato and looked at the menu so already had planned on ordering the churros! But that is my only negative I can say for the whole night which is great! If Iā€™m in the area I will be back and definitely recommend it to those who want a decently sized and priced Mexican meal.

My number 1 go-to place! My favourite dish is the Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Salad. Perfection every single time šŸ¤—šŸ‘Œ<br/>For the brave, try the HERO SAUCE lšŸ˜‰

The anticipation! We finally made it to Dos Amigos. However we were a trifle disappointed with the food. They WERE extremely busy on the Sunday night, with a short queue for a table, but still... The Partner ordered the enchiladas, wondering if one of each meat would be possible, but no. They were ok, separated from the other ingredients for the kitchens convenience (speed was of the essence), which made for a rather dissatisfying dish as a whole. My quesadillas had flavoursome beef but were very light on cheese, with an ordinary iceberg salad on the side. Iā€™ve had far better. The staff were exceptionally efficient and charming.

We have been to Dos Amigos a number of times during special occasions. They have never let us down especially with ambience food & service. We will come back soon.

Had a great meal tonight, New Years Eve. We ordered drinks which arrived promptly, a jug of the Classic Margaritas. Icy cold and oh so drinkable. We ordered <br/>Mains: Lime & Tequila Chicken very tasty and quite spicy and the Fish of the day. Surprisingly the meals arrived promptly and were both beautifully cooked and tasty. Dessert was yummy : Churros so light and crisp and.the choc chilli brownie. Service was prompt and efficient. I rate both the food and the service highly. No complaints at all. I would eat here again.<br/>

A well set out Mexican place. Ordered a quesadilla, wasn't a big fan of black beans so they were left untouched, quesadilla was good, dipped it into the really well seasoned guac and sour cream. I had a bite of the burger wrapped in a tortilla and it was quite nice as well. <br/>Didn't try anything else as we weren't that hungry hungry so I wouldn't give it more than a 3.5 until I've tried their other options maybe.<br/><br/>Good place though, will try it out again soon.

First time trying Mexican food and I gotta say....very delicious. Gonna have to bring my hubby to this place. Kids were happy to see the churros.Highly recommended.

Fairly overpriced, food took too long to arrive with some food being luke warm. Much better Mexican restaurants outside mission bay. Unlikely to return.
Mun Clair
Came here in a group of 7 after a few friends had raved about the food.<br/><br/>I ordered the taco salad with grilled chicken. Unfortunately, this dish was disappointing. It was lacking in flavour and portion size. Not worth the $18 at all. I had a taste of my friends nachos and they were also bland. I've had far better Mexican food at a takeaway like Mexicali.<br/><br/>On the plus side, they have a really delicious drink called mango conga. Everyone also raved about the Buffalo wings!<br/><br/>But I would probably dine elsewhere if I found myself hungry in mission bay again.
Tim
Consistently excellent. I get genuinely excited about going to eat here. My absolute favourites are the Fish Fajita (blackened) and Pina Colada. The serving sizes are really big, so much so that I will avoid having a big lunch if we're going here for dinner. Make sure you try their awesome hot sauces. The hottest one makes me hiccup, which is slightly embarrassing, but I can't resist because it's so damn flavorful. We took a mate and his partner here recently and they too were thoroughly impressed. Can't rate this place high enough.<br/><br/>Side note - I read another review by a person complaining about the booth by the kitchen being "isolated and uncomfortable", what an absolute diva, that table is right next to the reptile enclosure (definite perk) and the booth seats are really comfortable.<br/><br/>Will be back soon, stay awesome Dos Amigos.
Amanda
Staff and ambience was great. Ordered a mojito, very delicous. However, the chicken burrito tasted as though it was canned chicken. Not very nice at all. For the high price thats being paid, I would expect fresh chicken.
JPK
Yummy food... Both chicken and bean dishes. <br/>Enjoyed lunch and would like to come back again. <br/>Thanks for a cheerful service. <br/>Over all a good experience.

Always a favourite down in mission bay. Always reliable on their food quality and taste. Their Passionfruit margaritas are to die for! The only downfall is the price, but honestly that doesn't matter too much, just not 100% wallet friendly. But very happy customers every time we come!
Olivia
Always my favourite place to go out for dinner in mission bay! The vibe of the place is nice, colourful and bustling. I like sitting outside on the bar stools with the heaters. Favourite meal I order is the chipotle prawns, so good! You want to make sure you have a big appetite when you come here though as portions are big. A little on the more expensive side, but worth it for a treat of Mexican flavour!
NikaLifa
Funny idea of carrying tap water~ but the waitress n waiter seems not too much enjoy their jobs~ no smiling face donno why~ lol
Fitfoodie
Came here and tried the nachos and quesadilla, it was all quite cheesy, not the best nachos I've ever had and didn't really enjoy the black tasteless beans and rice that came with the quesadilla - would probably choose the salad as a side next time. Wasn't really wowed by the food kind of pub style quality but would come back to try other dishes that people have suggested here.

I always love dining at Dos Amigos! Last night was especially good so I thought I'd post a review. To start, the woman waiting our table was attentive and had a great sense of humour, which made the night very enjoyable as the drinks kept flowing and we didn't feel ignored. Shortly after we had ordered our entrees they came out and we were really surprised at the efficiency because the restaurant was so busy. Then not long after that the mains arrived to the table. Everyone loved the portion size and a lot of us couldn't finish as it was so generous, no one was left hungry. The staff were kind enough to offer our birthday girl a complimentary churro, even though they had let us bring a cake into the restaurant, they even sang as they bought the desserts out. Overall I would still continue to recommend this restaurant to my family and friends, always great service and food and I never have anything to complain about.
Janhavi Soni
Great ambience. Ordered Enchiladas which were just perfect, the filling was full of flavour and nicely spiced! Loved their traditional decor and service, staff that made you feel that you feel very comfortable!
Ingrid Nicolson
The food is meh. No spices. No heat. heaps of cheese (I avoided). Service was also meh. Didn't feel really taken care of, but wasn't neglected either. After having crappy food and a beer I decided to try their classic margarita which was BAD. They use concentrated lime syrup. It was really sweet and nothing like what a margarita should be.
Anna K
By far the best Mexican in Auckland. Such a large variety for food and drinks, especially cocktails and tequila! Service is always great, location and atmosphere never disappoints. Will always come here for Mexican!
Victoria Jenner
This is my best friend favourite restaurant. It's a regular when we want Mexican food. Love the margaritas and chimichanga. And the starters plate when we want to be fat. :)
Nick O'Neill
We can't get enough of Dos Amigos. Ā The staff are awesome - friendly and attentive. Ā The margaritas are addictive. Ā You can not go to Dos Amigos and not get the wings!!
Coffeeomg
One of a kind. You must have been here at least once if you visit Mission Bay often. I mean, the undeniable addictive smell of the dishes, fabulous drink menu, rhythmic music and laughter coming out from the establishment should be enough to draw any onlookers to check it out. I don't want to tell you more about this place, because it's time for you to meet your amigos there, and enjoy!
Patrick Tong
Pleased that they didn't have any surcharge today. Ordered Nachos (Entree size), Enchiladas, and a jug of Margaritas. Food was very nice, flavoursome, quite value for money. The only downside for sitting outside at the pavement is that not a lot of servers coming out to check whether we were ok or not, whether we wanted something else, etc. Actually, we didn't know where they were after taking our orders, taking our money, and delivering the food.
Ruchita Choukar
Planned visit to fulfill the urge of having buffalo wings. Their buffalo wings are exceptional with medium, hot and Hero category, Hero being super hotšŸ”„... Served with blue cheese dip, carrots and celery it helps to cool down you palette.. Perfect, perfect, perfect..<br/>Blackened prawns are a beauty. The taste is new, like it makes you think what kinda sauce are they using. Served with guacamole and barbeque sauce, prawns never tasted that good..ā¤<br/>Beans dip is the usual corn nachos with black beans, goat cheese dip.. portions are large and serves perfectly as a side dish..šŸ‘šŸ¼<br/>Staff is super friendly, all speaking mexican. They had a small gig going on alongside that was an added entertainment. <br/>Location and view is an added bonus<br/>Love it. Love it. Love it.

Will take some pictures next time but this place is probably my favourite when it comes to having buffalo chicken šŸ— wings. <br/><br/>Served with blue cheese sauce & šŸ„• carrots, this combination surprisingly goes very well.<br/><br/>I can have these buffalo wings every day! Other Menu items are tasty too. <br/><br/>Location and service is exceptional, hence a 5/5.

Visited for dinner last night (Monday).Ā <br/><br/>I have visited Dos Amigos quite a few time now and I am really impressed with the quality of food. However, last night the service was terrible - we had to ask for water three times. We got our entrees before we got water to drink.Ā <br/><br/>Three people came to take our order but no one would bring us water - upon being asked the fourth time, the waitress told us, it is coming (Coming from where??? Mexico???).<br/><br/>This was disappointing as I had friends with me from Melbourne and didn't leave a good impression.Ā <br/><br/>But as I said - food was really good. Service needs improving.
Tommy Ocean
This place is pretty decent. Nothing really stands out as exception, hence the 3.5 rating though, I'd definitely go here again. The wait staff were all friendly. The food was good. There's a good range of indoor and outdoor seating. It's situated on the main street so it's a bit noisy but it's also lively because of being on a main street. Middle of the road of an experience but it's still enjoyable.
Foodbiz
Probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Bland bland bland! Service was good and staff friendly? However their food is way over priced for what you get and the quality of so called "Mexican food"is low. I had the fish tacos @ $29. I got three soft tacos served with what seemed like Uncle Ben's microwave Mexican style rice. The taco consisted of a small piece of bland flavorless fish with some sliced red cabbage - no dressing, no sauce no flavour. I urge you to save your hard earned cash and go else where in Mission Bay. When paying for the meal we were not asked if our meal was OK, otherwise I would have expressed my dissatisfaction.

Great place . Friendly staff ad helpful. <br/>We had a power cut on one side of restaurant. <br/>The staff were still happy ad the food keeped comming out of the kitchen ad they had no lights. <br/>Will done to the staff.šŸ˜…šŸ˜….<br/>The ribs are great.šŸ‘Œ

This is our second visit and I remember being more impressed during my first visit. <br/><br/>The staff crew was amazing - very helpful and happy group. Food wise, the chicken burrito was great but the buffalo wings are on the tiny side. There wasn't much meat on the wings & drumsticks and the flavour could be stronger. <br/><br/>We ordered the platter to share during our first visit and we enjoyed that. Not sure if the standard is still the same though. <br/><br/>Overall a good place to hang out with friends and average to slightly above average in terms of food.
Arushi Thapar
What an amazing place to be at for a night out! Good ambience along with the option of sitting outside, letting you enjoy the street and mission bay view. <br/>Been a long time since I visited this place, not quite sure of the names but As far as i can recall i had the bloody maria and baja sea Mexican cocktails. Just loved the preparation style and the presentation. <br/>Friendly staff along with timely service. <br/>Hope to visit the place again sometime soon!
AJ
Loved the quirky vibe of this place! Waitors were friendly, kind and very prompt with service. Got the chimichanga (fried burrito) and it was AMAZING. The meal portion was huge and extremely filling. Only downside was place was very very busy for a Wednesday night, we probably should have booked. Will definitely return asap
Yorkshire Pudding
Visited for lunch. Food was really basic. <br/>Service was poor. We asked if we could take the salad away and the waitress handed us a bag and a box so we had to scrape the food from the plates ourselves. <br/>It was cheap. That's the only reason it got 2.
John
I come here occasionally with my girlfriend (who loves mexican food). They definitely serve the best pork ribs that I have tried in Auckland. Dos Amigos also maintains a lively, fun atmosphere.
FoodieOodie95
ā–  Lovely, fast service<br/>ā–  Worth the value<br/>ā–  Good lunch menu<br/><br/>This was my first time in Mission Bay! It's a really pretty setting with an array of shops and restaurants lined up by the beach and with the beautiful weather we were having today, Dos Amigos was a great place to start! The portion sizes are really good! We were served complimentary house chips with Salsa prior to our mains which also then arrived a few minutes later. So service was extremely prompt! The Chicken and Corn Chowder was light and tasty compared to the other dishes which were heavier and spicier.<br/><br/>I would definitely recommend the Spicy Buffalo dressing and blue feta cheese instead of the other dressing option if ordering the Chicken wrap. The meals are not very authentic but still tastes great and the highlight of the afternoon was probably getting to try on the Sombreros at the end. It added a nice touch to our experience.

Dos amigos serves amazing authentic Mexican food. We went there twice for dinner after strolling around mission bay. The place is always packed. We had nachos. Chimichangas, burritos, a tuna ceviche and buffalo wings. All was delicous ( escpecially the chimichangas) served in big portions and they gave us some nachos with salsa to start. Service was a bit slow and the waitress took years to hail down but it was understandable as the place was packed. Overall a very good place to get mexican food.
Benedict Uy
Friendly greeting when we walked in and given the option of seating. We happened to be seated opposite the terrarium with live lizards. The decor was tasteful with Mexican flair.<br/><br/>We came for lunch and they had a lunch menu which had selected items from the main menu (which was also available) with the option of adding a drink. Tried the Tequila lime chicken and it was really tasty. Plenty of rice and beans to make it a really filling meal. We also ordered nachos to share and that was tasty as well.<br/><br/>What was nice was that they allowed us to join an empty table to ours during the meal when other people arrived unexpectedly.<br/><br/>Nice food and service so worth a visit if you're up for Mexican.

We really enjoyed our lunch at Dos Amigos Cantina - the famous Mexican Cuisine Cafe in Mission Bay Auckland. <br/>We started off with the appetizing Mexican Chili Hot Chocolate Drink.<br/>For our lunch - we ordered Veracruz Chicken and Tequila Lime Chicken and both dishes were excellent - and - the Enchiladas were delicious too. <br/>I loved the great atmosphere and friendly service. <br/>The menu has a good selection of dishes and cocktails - especially Tequilas and Mexican Cocktails and Beers. <br/>Dos Amigos Cantina is a"must visit" restaurant when you are in Mission Bay Auckland.

Dined here for lunch on Sunday with my sister, this is one of my sisters favourites & I have dined here a fair few times myself. The location is excellent right on the water front at Mission Bay, the vibe inside is awesome however it can be a little cramped especially if it's busy. The staff are friendly & attentive. Upon arrival you are given complimentary corn chips and salsa which is a nice touch, they are great to nibble on whilst you decide what to order. I decided on the chicken fajitas & my sister went with the nachos which were a lunch special. The food was served quickly & we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the portions were massive & we both left very content. We didn't drink on this occasion however I have previously always enjoyed the sangria here & there is also an excellent cocktail menu.
Brittany McCrystal
The service has gone downhill, ive been here 3 times recently and the first 2 times I ordered the buffalo chicken salad and my order came out a as a completely different salad, we also had to wait about 15 minutes for water.

Have only ever been on Magarita Monday- but for a Monday there sure is a great atmosphere!!! This place constantly pumps, and is one of the best places in mission bay.
Lovemesumfood
Ordered a takeaway here yesterday and man oh man the food was disgusting!!! I ordered beef & bean nachos and a side of salsa for $1.5. Everything with this dish was so gross I will NEVER NEVER be back!! The beef was under seasoned and dry, the goc was warm and so flavourless didn't even have lime juice or salt in it. The pico de gallo tasted like it was a year old just like the salsa! The corn chips were stale, everything with this dish was a big frickn disgusting disappointment!! No love in this dish at all!! If you guys keep serving food like this I don't know how you will still have business! This is the second time I've been here and disappointment both times! If you can't cook a simple dish like nachos when you're a Mexican restaurant please close up your shop!!!

I have been to Dos Amigos a couple of times and I must say I had the best churros ever! Every bite starts off with a crunch and the centre is very light and fluffy.<br/>Additionally, I had a pleasant experience as well thanks to the excellent service provided by the happy waitresses (las amigas)! <br/>Overall great food and service. Kudos for you guys, for sure I will be back for more! Arriba!
Kristen
Love it here! Good ambiance and great food! The taco salad with chicken and fajitas are amazing! I've had my fair share of authentic Mexican food and Tex/Mex and this is the best I've found in Auckland. We brought a Texan here and he noted how it was on par with food back home, a great compliment! The ponchos provided for when you sit outside are a very nice touch as well.
Ben Hulme
Perfect. From the warm invite and menu description from the man at the entrance, to the meal itself. Service 5/5. Food 5/5. We ordered a chicken chimichanga, beef enchiladas, kids nachos and kids chicken fingers. All, amazing. All portions were huge including the kids ice cream sundaes. Highly recommend these guys!

I have been a regular of Dos Amigos Cantina for a while now and have always enjoyed it, however the other night could have been better. On Saturday the 16th of July I came here for dinner with a friend to celebrate my 20th birthday. We had booked a table a few days in advance and I was looking forward to showing my friend one of my favourite restaurants. On Saturday however, I received a text informing me that I had to be sure myself and my guest was on time as our table had been re-booked 2 hours later, although disappointed that we may be rushed I accepted and was still excited for the evening. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a waitress reminding us that we had to leave by 9. We were given our menus and barely given a chance to look through before we were being asked to order. The food as always was delicious as well as our cocktails, however our dining experience was dampened by continually feeling rushed and having to check the time. When we finished we weren't offered any dessert or if we wanted anything else which I found odd as most places do. At 8:40 a waitress came up to us reminding us yet again that we only had 20 minutes left before we had to leave so another booking could take our table. My friend then asked if we could just order one more drink as we were after tequila shots and the waitress replied hesitantly with "hmm okay, as long as you are quick." Myself and my friend found this very unprofessional. I have never felt or been so rushed before during a dining experience and it was rather disappointing. My friend and I weren't ready to leave and were forced to find somewhere else to continue our evening and my birthday celebrations.
Eilish Emery
Came here last Saturday the 16th of July with my friend for her 20th birthday, we had reserved a table for 7pm a couple of days beforehand and as soon as we arrived were informed our table had been re-booked at 9pm, so felt as if we had to rush our night which is not what we had intended on doing. Our meal came out within what felt like 5 minutes after we had ordered and it became clear we were being rushed. We were reminded three times during night that another booking was coming, it began to feel quite rude. One of the waitresses came over at 20 to 9 and reminded us once again, i asked if we could order one more drink before we left and she was hesitant and said only if we were quick. Despite the food being delicious, I was very unimpressed and disappointed with how we were rushed, considering we had reserved a table and we were there to celebrate a birthday.
Hannah Gear
Went here for dinner tonight with my niece and nephew. I ordered a passionfrut magarita and my niece and nephew had virgin magaritas (hint: go on Mondays and order magaritas! Well worth it!). We received complimentary salsa and corn chips, which went far too quickly. We ordered chicken chimichanga, chicken burrito and beef quesadilla. All the food was delicious with fresh flavours. The waiters were cheerful and helpful. Will be back to hopefully try dessert!
Anthea Smith
I'm a bit disappointed Dos Amigos! My hubby's chilly C was good, but my beef nachos was<br/>- very bland<br/>- tasted like it was boiled, as the beef was wet (not saucy) clumped on the corn chips.<br/>- it was also alittle cold except for right in the middle.<br/>I don't usually complain, but my usual great experience and the restauran's festive friendly waiters was sorely missing. <br/>Probably won't come again and we were regulars. šŸ˜•
Merely Here
The customer service was lovely, they even brought out some water for our dog with a lemon wedge perched on the rim. The food was nice, especially the chicken quesadilla, and the wait time was short. We had an enjoyable time.<br/>
Sarah
I got the Chilli con carne and I have to say I was really disappointed. Visually and in quality (taste), it was like something I could cook at home. To be honest I don't know why this place is so busy, because it wasn't that great.
Marcella
What a great place this is. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. We came here for lunch yesterday and ordered the El wrappo and the nachos. We were warmly greeted and received complimentary corn chips and salsa while we waited for our mains. <br/><br/>The ambience is great and the overlooking view of the beach is a bonus. I loved the combination of crispy chicken and the spicy buffalo/ blue cheese sauce. My partner reckoned it was too tangy but I loved it. The nachos had some great chunky beef pieces in it and tasted good. My only recommendation would be to put more salsa in it as it was a bit dry. <br/>Definitely coming for more in the near future.
Ana
Dos Amigos is my favourite Mexican food restaurant. The staff are lovely, the amotsphere is great and the food is beyond excellent. I love the chicken nachos, their range of quesadillas and their ribs (for those days where you want to get your hands dirty). The cocktails are super amazing too. I'll go back time and time again to Dos Amigos :)
Evaline Shandil
Was greeted nicely with big smiles, loved the Mexican feel to the place. We ordered nachos which was of a good portion & quesadilla which was tasty. The food here is great. <br/>I liked the sitting arrangements as well. It has a bar also. <br/>Good food, good service with good setting
Magic Bleeds
Got the chicken and corn chowder & it was delicious. It was rich, creamy & had nachos & sour cream mixed in the chowder that I could distinctly taste. I licked the bowl clean. Highly recommend this dish.

This is a great place to have fun, eat well and party like if you were in Mexico. Awesome tequilas and lots of really spicy salsas if you dare to try!

I have been coming here for years and I've never had a bad meal. The lunch specials are great and what I love the most is the team that works here, always so welcoming including the dragons. Must try the buffalo wings šŸ‘Œ

Good food, good ambience. We went there recently on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy. The good was good. There was a bit of wait between the mains and Entree which was quite obvious as the restuarant was busy. I expected more from the buffalo wings- they were spicy bt chicken was not too juicy. chicken didnt looked too fresh either. Main was Good, big portion, but the presentation could have been better. Quantity for Jug was not too impressive either.
MrGodHimself
My experience here has been mixed. The Veracruz chicken on my first visit was the highlight, big portion size and delicious. Nachos my wife had were also really good; we thought we had found a place that would become a regular.<br/><br/>Subsequent visits weren't so good, the food I had from the lunch menu was terrible; the chicken wrap I had used the same overly dry and flavorless chicken that my kids had on their kids meal.Ā <br/><br/>The service is very bad. They are well staffed, but you seem to get bounced around different staff, and get lost/ignored as the staff stand around talking to each other and socializing rather than taking accountability and dealing with their customers.
A Tale Of Two Tummies
Update:Ā I personally contacted the management at Dos Amigos regarding their reply to this review to provide them with some disclosure. Sadly, their reply to my feedback was incredibly disheartening to say the least, especially considering that the one thing we truly rated DA on was their friendly customer service. I have discussed their reaction with Little tummy and we have decided to dock the points we gave them originally for their friendly service and adjust our rating accordingly. For the record, no food is good enough to justify being accused and having your integrity questioned by a restaurant's manager.Ā <br/><br/>Food ordered:<br/>Chimichanga w/ Beef<br/>Enchiladas w/ Chicken<br/><br/>Bill: $46<br/><br/>Big tummy: I really hate to give Dos Amigos a bad review, as the service and ambiance were seriously crazy good. Like the staff were some of the most informative, genuine and friendly waitstaff I have come across. The restaurant itself is amazing as well, with a prime location along Auckland's bustling Mission Bay. Even the interior decor is well worth mentioning - the highlight of my night was easily the three bearded dragons they have next to the till. Soooooo cool!<br/>Sadly though, the fun times came to a crashing halt after leaving the restaurant. On the drive home I started feeling a bit worse for weather and by the time we reached home, I was violently sick. I'm not exactly a stranger to Mexican cuisine, so I'm not sure what it was - maybe just a bit of one-off carelessness in food preparation or something. It's a shame as besides that I really enjoyed our visit, but a night of wicked stomach cramps has really put me off returning.<br/><br/>Little tummy: Our friends love Dos Amigos, so they convinced us to go there for our catch up dinner date. With sombreros everywhere you look and live lizards next to the counter, you really can't fault DA for ambiance. Even the friendly staff add to the enjoyable atmosphere. Unfortunately, our lasting memory of DA wasn't the lizards or the great service though, as my poor boyfriend was sick as a dog when he got home. A really disappointing end to the night, as everything up to that point had been really great. I'd like to think it was just a one off kinda thing, but it has put us off somewhat from returning.
Sarah
I came here for lunch one Saturday with family (there were four of us) and we were seated straight away. <br/><br/>Food was great, you can taste how fresh all the ingredients were and was definitely worth the $$ spent. <br/><br/>The service was great, the lady who Tok our orders was friendly and recommended a few dishes to us. The food came out really quickly and the lovely people who worked there kept checking to see if everything was to our liking. <br/><br/>Overall a great dining experience.

I have never had authentic Mexican food before, so this probably can be listed as the most authentic I have eaten till date. Lovely place along Mission Bay, facing the beach with a great view on a busy street. Nice simple interiors with great food and a brilliant separate lunch menu. I really like the roll I ate alongside the fries and apple cider that I had.
Tonez
Been here a couple times now and never disappointed by their meals. I usually order the nachos (because to be honest im actually not a massive Mexican fan lol) and both time they've filled me up and have hardly been able to finish them. For a good price too. And of course awesome view at the waterfront. Love this spot!

I came here for dinner, after waiting a while to be seated we were set at the balcony and given menus. We ordered mint mojitos to start and were given complimentary chips and salsa. We then ordered curly fries which came with Chipotle aioli for an entree (not very Mexican, but the wait was long and we knew that would come out quickly). For mains I had the chicken chimichanga ($23) which came with rice and beans... for this price i was expecting a little more like a salad, but of course you had to pay extra. I only ate half of this meal because the cheese they used was too overpowering and the beans were just one flavour and bland, I think the rice was slightly underdone too? I did let the waitstaff know, but came back with a takeaway container.? My friend had the beef quesadilla which she said was good, and it came with a salad too ($27). Overall, I wasn't completely impressed with this place. It was average Mexican food and the wait staff were trying hard but found it difficult to keep up with the constant flux of customers. Next time hopefully it could be better? Considering this area only caters to dates and tourists, you don't expect it to exceed great standards.

My family have been here a couple times and the atmosphere is always great. We've had quite a few things on the menu, but if you like ribs, I would highly suggest them. The kumara wedges that go with are to die for! My vegetarian sister also loves going here because they can make almost everything vegetarian (probably not the ribs though šŸ˜œ)

When you walk in your greeted with the traditional "Hola" by the staff....I once tried speaking in Spanish to a new staff and he stumbled....hehehehehe finally got one of their staff.<br/><br/>Excellent service and food! It has become a favorite weekly family tradition for us since we moved to Auckland.<br/><br/>Chef Louis is amazing. Lizard the owner is great.<br/><br/>Entree Platter and Fajitas is one of the best i have tried.<br/>Keep up the good work!<br/><br/>My wife is basically in "amour" with the buffalo wings which makes me jealous sometimes.... :(<br/><br/>My daughter is LOCO about the chicken fingers. Love being able to practice my Spanish in Auckland!

Came here with a large group of friends. Ā We found the portion sizes to be generous and the food was decent - but doesn't stand out.<br/><br/>The service wasn't really up to standard - we waited a long time to order and one of the waitresses was quite rude. Ā <br/><br/>Overall, having good company made the night a good one.

We've been here many times now and it's always a hit when we're hungry! I love to sit in the booth behind the lizards as its a great private alcove, and of course you get to look at something slightly out of the ordinary while you dine :) <br/>We started with the mixed entree platter consisting of Buffalo Wings, Quesadilla, corn chips, guacamole, blue cheese sauce, and sour cream. Wow that was almost a meal in itself!! Next up I ordered Chicken Chimichanga & my partner went Beef Enchiladas. As we often do we shared half/half anyway, Both were good but I preferred the Chimichanga. Could be that I'm not much of a beef fan, but to me the beef was a little salty & maybe overcooked.. It was a very rich meaty taste, which I guess would be great if you love meat! The refried beans were not the best I've had, but the meals overall were good and we will certainly return. No room at all for desert. The wine list here was not extensive, but then who goes to Mexico for the wine... If we weren't driving we would surely have gone for a margarita

we used to come here once every two weeks for some nachos and beer and invited friends on a couple of occasions, however last time we ate here we found a huge curly long hair baked in our nachos. when asked the chef for a bit of explanation he only claimed this couldn't have come from his kitchen - true he had short hair, however it was baked in the food - no hygiene, no care, no apology, we will not return.

Chilled out Mexican food - the portions were decent and there's alot of vegetarian options. On average it was average...the staff were lovely however

Yes this was our first visit to enjoy tasty Mexican dinner on a mid summers day. Firstly the location is simply superb. The car park is just across, and our gratitude to a most gracious and courteous lady, who was most kind in permitting us to park (squeeze) our tiny car between two large ones so narrowly parked close by. Sauntering across to the table booked by us we were promptly welcomed & seated at a superb location facing the beach and enjoying the sights and sounds of Mexico, sorry Mission Bay on a busy weekend. It was that Mexican band playing live music which must have done that. We were promptly served our drinks & the Mojito is highly recommended apart from Sol beer. We relished the Buffalo wings and Blackened Prawns and the accompanying Guacamole and blue cheese dips are so well done, the celery and carrot sticks were good, ah the Hero sauce and the JalapeƱo sauces are to be tried at your level of heat acceptance, yes, absolutely worth it. I needed extra serviettes to wipe the after effects of them sauces from my perspiring face, much to the merriment of the group. The atmosphere is just lovely & every one was enjoying their platters & nachos and do try their jug delights of er, ahem alcohol. The flavours of the food have certainly given me the desire to enjoy and explore even more of this cousine again. The staff were most helpful and looked after us ever so dutifully & in the most welcoming & friendly manner. We also managed to meet the 2 local celebrities- the star attractions viz. The Dragons! They are just lovely & friendly. Special mention to all the staff for their superb service and care, the food is highly recommended & I am certainly returning back for more gastronomy and of course, the cocktails! The musicians were so nice and talented and wear the most authentic clothes, you forget you are in Mission Bay, when you hear them play! A great experience and hope you enjoy your visit as much as I did. All in all a very enjoyable evening & a real delight to have experienced Mexican hospitality. Muchos Gracias!

Dinner at this restaurant last night, and shared two appetisers and three mains among us. The portion was large and we did not manage to finish them all. Personally I felt the Mexican dishes are delicious, and I love it from the first time I tried, especially the spicy dishes. I would recommend the buffalo wings, Bbq pork ribs and the spicy prawns. Yum yum ...
Karen
Came here for a birthday in a quite a large group, the staff were very friendly and attentive- loved the fun vibe of the place.Ā <br/><br/>I had the ribs and they were amazing! Fell off the bone and just were beautiful seasoned. Price was decent as you also get a side of wedges and salad. Everyone else who got the ribs agreed, and the other all enjoyed their meals also. Would return for sure!

Really liked this place, the service was friendly and nice. The food was fresh, fulling, and soo yummy and not to mention a perfect place for insta photos ;)

Great mexican food on offer.<br/>Simply loved the Entree of Buffalo Wings with Corn chips & quesadillas.<br/>The mains was exquisite, Veracruz Chicken. Chicken Breast with Veracruz sauce was simply amazing.

I really love this place! The staff are super friendly, chirpy and always smiling. <br/><br/>We ordered the buffalo wings for entree, and they were quite spicy even for mild but they were sooooo tasty it was hard not to stop. One bad thing was the side of celery and carrot sticks -they looked quite dry and had been sitting out there for a while and I'm sure when I first dined here (like a few years ago šŸ™ˆ), there were a lot more of them served. The blue cheese dressing is so good there's not enough celery and carrot sticks to dip it in! <br/><br/>They also serve a complimentary serving of nachos with salsa, and even that was nice! That salsa! šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼<br/><br/>Our mains were super filling and very tasty. The special for that day was, it was buy one margarita and get one free! So that was too hard to pass up! <br/><br/>I reckon this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Auckland. Good service and great food (and drinks) with an awesome view!
Daniel Nordstrand
Been here many many times it is my favourite spot in mission bay for food or a social drink. Staff are all very friendly and the food and drinks are of the highest quality for a great price. Will definately be back.

Its hard to come by decent Mexican food in Auckland and unfortunately this place doesn't really meet the standard.Ā <br/><br/>The food here is usually very overpriced and not very tasty to be honest. Its a shame because the location is prime. The entertainment here is awesome however, with the live Mexican band they have playing sometimes. Wouldn't really return here unless it was with a group of friends.
Jordan Jennings
Generous rating because of the friendly staff. We were served by a lovely blonde lady. The drinks took -what seemed like - forever to arrive, with the food arriving shortly after, which was odd. But the food was amazing and the margaritas were perfect.
Michael Hallows
Welcoming staff, even though it was a little bit too kitsch how much Mexican they spoke (when they clearly weren't!). The live band was great and added to an authentic atmosphere. The meal sizes were generous, if a little bland. Overall a nice restaurant.
Stacey Jane Rainbow
Came on the off chance for rib night and couldnt fault it! The staff were really accomodating in finding us a seat as the place was full! The ribs were amazing and they were huge! Cannot fault for the price either! Will 100% be back again!
Shelly
Had dinner here and ordered the Chicken Fajita which was delicious! I loved the build your own part of it. Their portions are HUGE and I'm not even exaggerating. Entree portions were also gigantic, we were all about full half way through our mains but that did not stop us because we're troopers! The service was also great and staff try to be as authentic as possible, greeting in spanish and wearing ponchos etc. i love their dragons - wish i could have had a meet and greet but it was obviously too cold for them to come out. Gracias! Will be back :)
Seth Loch
This place has awsome service. Friend had a birthday here and all the staff sang a happy birthday song with us. In English and Spanish šŸ˜†. I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food but it was good and not too over priced. Portion sizes were generous
Kerry Kirwan
Went here mid-week with a friend. We started with free corn chips and salsa -- nice -- and then ordered the spicy bites de queso which were crumbed and deep fried balls stuffed with cream cheese and jalapenos, served with very spicy roja sauce. Cost $13 and big enough to share. They were delicious but not for anyone who doesn't like things spicy. We followed with fatijas - me beef ($28) and my friend vegetarian ($26) These were substantial dishes and if are going to have an entree as well, probably only recommended for the very hungry. Tasty though.<br/><br/>The wait staff were very good and happy fitted in with a couple of changes we asked to be made to the menu to cater for my vegetarian friend.<br/><br/>It's a lively, noisy placed, especially as the table next to us were there for a Birthday dinner where the cake was served with Happy Birthday sung in Spanish complete with somberos and maraca.<br/><br/>A fun night.

Ok so if these pictures don't speak for themselves OPEN YOUR EYES . Having a blast here reminiscing on past summer memory's as I'm making new ones (it actually feels like it's summer here today!!) Amazing service from all the staff and the owners are super friendly and inviting hosts what a team here!!!! Food is great! Margaritas AWESOME! All is priced well and is fun to eat with friends and family, great people to meet and enjoy the vibes with, seriously though WOW!

Great location right on the main strip of Mission Bay, however parking never seems to be easy! Dos amigos menu features all of the traditional Mexican specialties for a reasonable price - considering the size of there portions. The food is good and we all enjoyed our dishes during our visit for dinner. My fav dish of the night was the Buffalo chicken salad.<br/><br/>Lots of nice mexican touches throughout the decor of the restaurant. The staff are friendly and fun! It's hard to not notice the pet dragons displayed by the counter, which add a lot of character to this place and are often brought out to interact with customers.
Adeline
I just love the spicy buffalo wings (tuesday is 1/2 price) and the grande nachos is delicious!!! The $10 lunch deals are tasty too! My fav tex-mex in Auckland!!!!
Romina Kolesnik
The food is really average but the portion sizes are massive and its relatively cheap to eat here. I've been here a few times and service sometimes is really good and other times we've been ignored for ages.
Richard Sharpe
Mexican always promises a lot<br/>More than it actually delivers. Bought a few items from the menu because it was my first time here. The nachos flavor seemed to be the same as any other Mexican outlet in town the toppings were quite generous though. The blue cheese sauce for the buffalo wings was quite excellent as there wasn't a lot of blue cheese taste to it. Probably a great place to go if you're with friends and you're half drunk and don't really care about what you're eating.
Sasha
Had a late lunch on Wednesday. There was a menu outside the restaurant which is handy. Service was lovely. The wait staff were friendly and prompt. We order the nachos to start and the burger and wrap and everything was yummy. <br/>Reallly good experience. <br/>šŸ˜Š

Update Dec 2015 - Service is slow and delayed beyond reason. Hygiene levels need improvement as well. Rating furthered lowered to 2/5. <br/><br/>Update Oct 2015 - Rating lowered from 4.5 to 3.5. Staff is now out of sync with expected service standards. <br/><br/>Fantastic place in a spectacular location. Open till late. One of the best nachos in the region. Welcoming staff. Will go again in the future.

Dos Amigos serve yummy Mexican food in the heart of Mission Bay. We decided to dine there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon after going for a lovely walk around the bays. Itā€™s really easy to find but it can be hard to find a park sometimes.<br/><br/>The menu makes your mouth water and is packed with all of the traditional Mexican goodies. I ordered the chicken Enchiladas which were two corn tortillas rolled with chicken and topped with verde cheese and then baked and served with rice, beans and sour cream ($22). My friend ordered the nachos which were corn chips covered with beef, jalapenos, shaved onion, black olive and shreeded cheese and then grilled and topped with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo ($16). The meal sizes were good, the ingredients were fresh but the meal wasnā€™t anything to rave about.<br/><br/>The staff were really warm and friendly and many of them spoke Spanish which made the experience more authentic. Itā€™s not the best Mexican that I have eaten but it is a fantastic, casual Mexican restaurant to try in Mission Bay!

I meant to write a review a while back aboutĀ your food truck at at the waterfront market downtown - my kids loved your tacos, and you were just really nice guys. Not sure I loved the tacos as much as the kids but that's not important - when we see you again we will be sure walk up and buy again as my little girl thought it was the yummiest thing around. Good job guys.

One of the best mexican food in town.. By the Mission Bay beach, this place is a cozy cafe that is busy at all times. The staff is very friendly and they are always happy to recommend the star dishes of theirs. Nachos are good, Lemon Chicken is just amazing. I tried their Mexican beer, as one of their staff recommended it to us; quite liked it and thought it was a better option to other mexican beers like Sol and Corona. A definite try for an average priced, authentic mexican food.

This place is very busy on a Saturday night! My partner and I took the last table for two, as we had not booked.<br/><br/>We ordered a beef quesadilla with beans, the taco salad with grilled chicken, and kumara wedges. The portions are incredibly generous - the kumara wedges were massive - one wedge was easily the size of a small kumara!Ā The taco salad was great - full of flavour. I was slightly disappointed with the quesadilla (we are seasoned quesadilla eaters as we order that everywhere we go!) - the tortilla was slightly soggy, and the beans on the side tasted very dry and slightly card-board-y. That was the only thing we didn't finish!<br/>I also ordered a sangria - it was fruity and delicious, but personally I don't think it was strong enough; and slightly pricy.<br/><br/>It's a cosy place to have dinner; the staff (who all speak Spanish) are incredibly friendly, and the live musician even played happy birthday for one party who were there.<br/><br/>Overall - would definitely go back. Great vibe, and our stomachs were happily stuffed by the end.

Popped in here for a catchup over dinner... Don't usually do Mexican but the food was very enjoyable... Blackened prawns were cooked very well... Salad fresh... Service was very good... Great place to come with family.

This Mexican food was amazing! I ordered the spicy chicken rice *i forgot the name* , buffalo chicken wings and as always nachos yummm! The service was great and the place so cozy! RecommendedšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

This place is understatedly GOOD! We came here on a hens and we all ordered a make it your own burrito. It was awesome! I highly reccommend doing this as you get to pick exactly what you want and how much you like in it. The margaritas - Oh my word they are delicious!!!! We had the peach, watermelon and the classic - I cant tell you how much I loved them!!!! Music is loud and pumping the decor relaxed Mexican themed, thou slightly old and outdated. Mind you the foods so darn good, who cares about the decor. Must try with a group!

I like the cosy atmosphere here. The interior decor brings exotic flavour to customers. I had chipotle prowns and friends had burritos alike. The prowns taste quite jucy which is just to my likingļ¼Œbut I don't like the sprinkled cheese topped up on the black bean. <br/><br/>I also had a jug of fruit margaritaļ¼Œwowļ¼Œlovely flavour with mangoļ¼Œa little bit pricy though.
Sanjesh Lal
Our fav casual dining restaurant. Their margaritas are the bomb! Beats any other Mexican dining by far. We always go for the shared platter. My review is a bit biased because we are regulars :)

The food was awesome. The staff were very friendly, great customer service. Great atmosphere. Will definitely recommend if you want great mexican food.

My partner and I are regulars at Dos Amigos, always very friendly staff and consistently good meals. Meal sizes are more than enough for one person and I'm always excited to try the next new thing on the menu! I'm a huge fan of the classic quesadillas, as well as the margaritas, although for the price of a cocktail jug it would be nice if they were a little bigger. Seeing bearded dragons Dora, Diego and Tijuana is always a highlight, although we're yet to get ourselves a photo op! Big props to the staff for their confidence in speaking Spanish to customers. It adds a whole new level of authenticity having both the native and non native speakers of Spanish engaging with us at this restaurant. Gracias amigos!

Typical Mexican food- reminds me of those Mexican meals u can make your own from<br/>Super market- cool spot love sitting outside with a margarita watching the people walk past :-) (expect a pricy margarita and def not going to get you tipsy) have been a few times and will be back no doubt

This was a spur of the moment Saturday night outing for us. Couldn't book in advance as phone kept going to voicemail. We were pleasantly surprised to get a seat, albeit side-by-side at a bench table. <br/>Inattentive service but delicious food and drinks.
Food Adventures With AnnaJ
I had heard great things about this place and love mexican so was excited to try Dos Amigos. We were seated quite promptly considering it was around 7 on a Thursday but once seated we didnt get any attention from wait staff. We had to beckon a waitress over to take our drinks order after we'd been seated nearly 20 minutes, and the service didnt get much better. We had to ask for water which still took about 10 minutes to come and our plates werent cleared til well after we had finished.Ā <br/>However I really enjoyed our food :) Passionfruit margarita was so yum, and loved how extensive the drinks menu was.Ā <br/>Started with gauc and corn chips which were both very generous servings. I had the chipotle prawns - SO YUM! Great little kick to them but a bit messy as the tails were still attached. My beans were cold but still tasty, and had a nice portions of salad and rice.Ā <br/>Due to the lacking service, might not return as mexican places seem to be popping up everywhere in Auckland and would have preferred a bit more authenticity of flavours.
Donna Flowers
Very disappointed in the quality of the food, it was dry and inedible. When we arrived, looking at the next tables food, we should have realised and left the restaurant. Sadly, they weren't open to constructive criticism. Will never return.
Foodie Feels
Love there taco salads. Full of flavour and fresh.Ā <br/>Have a great variety of drinks & great starters.Ā <br/><br/>You get the best service on your birthday big hats and I got a couple free drinks on my birthday which was nice.Ā <br/><br/>Great atmosphere and great customer service. Not overpriced like some other places. Good place to go for a casual night out with friends.

Fantastic Mexican food, great atmosphere and... Bearded Dragons! Very cool. I went here for lunch with a friend on Tuesday and I was really impressed by this place. I ordered the chicken burrito which came with a generous salad and guacamole. YUM!!! The burrito was huge and was filled with chicken, rice and beans.Ā The burrito was delicious. The salad and guacamole were really fresh and tasty. My friend ordered the chicken enchiladas and she said she enjoyed her meal as well. Ā Our only issue with the food was the mass of shredded chicken. Last time I had Mexican, the chicken was cut into smallish pieces rather than being shredded which I though was nicer. Shredded chicken looks like canned tuna and after a while, it starts to taste like it as well. However, the chicken was tasty and the tomato salsa helped give moisture to the dish. We were given complimentary corn chips and salsa before our meals arrived which I thought was a really nice touch. The service here is not overly smiley but our waitress was friendly enough and our meals were brought out fast. The dĆ©cor is great and there are lots of Mexican touches here and there. I would definitely go back here, there is a lot more on the menu that I would like to try. This restaurant also has two reptile residents who keep an eye on things. I didn't get the chance to talk to them much this time but I hear they do interact with customers quite a lot; they give aĀ certainĀ edginess to the place :)

Me and my wife have been here for a couple of times. The atmosphere, ambiance and the view from the table are good. Not to mention the food, its wonderful...

My partner and me are loyal friends of Dos Amigos(pun intended) .its a great place with unique vibe ,very friendly atmosphere and good service.I have been pretty much in a every Mexican restaurant around Auckland as i am a hardcore fan of Mexican cuisine .so far dos amigos is unbeatable in terms of price /quality ratio and has big variety of tex-me and authentic Mexican stuff.my personal favourite is sizzling chicken fajitas with flour tortillas .my partner usually goes with burrito .portions are big and filling.and I don't remember chef ever being stingy on meat (thumbs up!).overall it's a great place with friendly staff ,perfect location and of course yummy food.very well done mr.Lizard I wish you and your team all the best!

Loved the virgin Margarita - very refreshing! Ā If more than one of you having this, it pays to order a jug. The prawn entree was flavoursome especially if you enjoy spicy food . Ā The entree Taco Salads are more than enough if you are not looking for big portions. Ā The staff come across as friendly and very helpful. Ā We also went for a walk to the next bay around from Mission Bay, and there are some nice looking restaurants/cafes which look very popular with the locals...so heading there next time, as a really nice quiet relaxing spot with the beach across the road without all the chaos and cars of Mission Bay...

We decided to come here for lunch in the weekend as I had a craving for buffalo wings and had heard that the ones here were good.<br/><br/>I ordered them as my meal (even though they are meant to be entree, but the size was fine for me as a lunch).Ā  The sauce covering the chicken was delicious - spicy ('hero' level of spice just means hot I think) and tangy.Ā  Definitely finger-licking good.Ā  However, I would've loved it if the wings were a bit crispier than they were.Ā  I also had the conga - a virgin margarita blended with mango.Ā  This was lovely and refreshing on a hot summer's day.<br/><br/>My husband ordered the chicken wrap and curly fries which was off there lunch menu.Ā  He enjoyed the wrap and the fries were lovely and crispy.<br/><br/>Overall, decent food, not too pricey and a nice atmosphere.Ā  Although if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is probably not the right place for you as the cuisine is a bit more American style.

Since I am just travelling in New Zealand, I can't afford to wait for more than one visit to a restaurant before I review it, so here I am, breaking my own principles. I had dinner with mi familia at Dos Amigos last night and I was so blown away, that I just HAD to write a review. So here are my notes, as always<br/><br/>The +'s:-Ā <br/>>THE FOOD: Literally, that is ALL you need to focus on here. Incredibly tasty Mexican Food. We had the 'Spicy bites de Queso' and 'Curly fries' as entrees, and both the Chicken and Vegetarian Chimichangas AND the Vegetarian Fajita as mains, the guava Jarrito, a cerveza, ginger beer and a couple mocktails - Conga and a Virgin Margarita - to drink, and Churros for dessert. Flawless. The Spicy Bites de Queso are a must have. Best. Entree. EVER. The Chipotle garlic aioli that comes with the Curly fries is quite refreshing. The portions of the mains are pretty huge, and everything was cooked with so much flavour and to perfection. That Chimichanga! Mmmm. Try a Mexican cerveza Ā -which is basically beer- (I had the Tecata and loved it!) , or if you'd like something non-alcoholic, I'd recommend the Jarrito for people who can handle sweetened sodas, the Conga if you like coconut, and if all else fails, hit the Virgin Margarita!. Don't leave without eating Churros.Ā <br/>>The DECOR: Had it been a little hotter, I would have totally tricked myself into believing that I was sitting in a Cantina in Mexico. Really nicely done decor; lots of Mexican elements thrown in, crowded, tight and warm colors to complement.> THE STAFF: Warm, friendly, attentive, and polite. Our order was taken and served to perfection, all with that bright smile on the face. The waitress who served us was nice enough to get us the large, colourful Mexican sombreros so we could take pictures!> THE PETS: Dos Amigos has three very adorable and very cool Bearded Dragons in a glass cage, Ā whom if you're lucky, you can meet and greet, and take pictures with. I got to meet the handsome 7-year old Diego, who not only posed with me, but also gave me his best big croaky smile.<br/>The -'s:<br/>I am stumped. I have zero negatives to share based on this visit<br/><br/>The ?'s:<br/>> THE LOCATION: Bang in the heart of Auckland on Mission Bay, it's really easy to find this place (tucked in right next to Masala), but parking is such a pain, and so is getting a table. I recommend you make reservations in advance, park far away and walk to build your appetite.> THE AMBIENCE: You'll either love it, or hate it. I, fortunately loved it. It's loud, it's crowded, and it could fool me into believing I'm in a Cantina, for real. Tables are all real close to each other, so don't expect to get any privacy. Great to hang with friends and loud family!> THE WAIT TIME: The menu warns you that the food takes a while to come, and they aren't kidding about that. We spent close to 2.5 hours at the restaurant from start to finish. In a way this is a good thing; relax, digest and have a long lovely evening. Not the best place to eat if you have to be somewhere at a particular time.<br/>And there you have it! My unbiased opinion of one of the best Mexican restaurants I have eaten at, also my first Zomato review in Auckland. I highly recommend Dos Amigos for a great evening out.Ā P.S. : Order extra Sour Cream. It's just so so so delish!

Mexican food is idiot proof to make and there are many mexican restaurants in Auckland, but not all are good in value or provide quality service, unfortunately this place was one of them.<br/><br/>My friend recommended me to try Dos Amigos Cantina, so I aggreed.<br/><br/>We booked a table for five earlier in the day being aware it is in Mission Bay a very busy place at night time.Ā <br/><br/>When we arrived we were seated at a table reserved right in the corner by the kitchen , a very uncomfortable and isolating area. We asked if we could wait and be seated elsewhere, the waiter very rudely said "you booked this table" and walked away not even saying sorry we are fully booked or be seated here and if anything opens up we will give you that space. We were seated for 10 mins until I spotted some empty seats which I asked to be moved from that uncomfortable spot.<br/><br/>We ordered our meal after reading the captivating menu that made your mouth water. We received our drinks and entree, they are very efficient with timing in a busy period.Ā <br/><br/>After I received my main course (vegetable burrito) I could not believe what was presented in front of me I paid $22 for salad which didn't look fresh and a burrito that had burnt vegetables in it. You could see that there was oil seeping out from the side from the burnt vegetables. It had barley anything in it and the black beans where very overpowering, the burrito wasn't even baked.<br/><br/>Hands down I say that the mexican was not good at all for what you paid and the service was not the best, if you want quality mexican food for a better price with fresh ingredients I would definitely recommend Mexican Cafe in the city opposite the Sky Tower, the people are very friendly even in busy periods and food is very filling with decent amount of filling in the burritos.Ā <br/><br/>When it came to pay for the meal one of the staff asked me how was my meal and I honestly told her her how I felt, she just bluntly said "you should come another time it might be different", that will hands down never happen and I will tell people this place does not deserve the hype is has.Ā <br/><br/>The only reason I am giving it a one it is because the atmosphere was nice.

Good food, good service, filling my tummy with yummy food, food lover new place always. Right next to mission bay beach AWSOME view with a beer in your hand

Mixed reviews about the food and the people serving. Ā <br/><br/>The Buffalo wings, were yummi. The Nachos ABSOLUTELY disgusting! dried beans with hardly any sauce on top. Horrible!<br/><br/>The girls serving were nice and attentive, but the guy was awful! Ā he screamed at a group of people who asked about their meal as it was taking too long. and he just went off at them rudely. The place felt silent and most uncomfortable.<br/><br/>Never going there again!

Dinner was great , really love the complimentary little bowl of corn chips with some Salsa, nice gesture . Nachos is amazing the big one will feed 2 which was great we shared it and Still had a doggy bag . Was great!

I have visited this place numerous times and always walked out pleased with the experience. The food and drink prices are very decent and potion sizes are large and filling. The service is also great and the environment of the place adds to the enjoyment.

amazing food, exotic atmosphere and the staff are truly the BEST! Celebrated my birthday there and was surprised by churros and chocolate sauce by the staff over there! Truly made it extra special!! buffalo wings and nachos are the best!!!<br/><br/>

Faultless at my last visit. We were seated quickly as soon as we arrived, with clean tables, cutlery and menus. They have a $15 lunch menu and from that I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla. Ā My friends ordered El Wrapo, and a vege burrito. Ā My quesadilla was very filling and delicious, and my friends too enjoyed their meals.Ā <br/><br/>The reason i gave Dos Amigos a perfect 5 is their impeccable service. All the staff were friendly and accomodating, making sure we had everything we needed and were satisfied. They even offered us sombreros and took pictures for us which was lovely. My friend has been here a few times and has raved about their service and food. Will definitely be back. Good on ya Dos Amigos.

A firm lover of Mexican food, I wasn't even going for lunch when I walked past Dos Amigo's, on a glorious Sunday afternoon, Ā just glancing at the menu as I passed made me want to try everything though!<br/>The kitchen wasn't open for another 15 minutes but the attentive waitress brought us some chips with an awesome fresh and simple salsa to tide us over while we waited for our coffee's.<br/>I chose the Quesadilla Grande, I asked for this extra extra hot, as I know how mild the Kiwi's register on the Scoville scale, and my friend, a vegetarian ordered the Vege Burrito's, both well priced.<br/>Out they came not much more than 10 minutes later accompanied by their homemade habanero sauce which was out of this world and definitely delivered on the "extra extra hot" request! This sauce is to die for, they should bottle it up and sell it ( if they don't already!) . There was something special about this sauce and I managed to convince the Manager to tell me it's secret ( well 2 of them) - honey and fresh mango! Forever more I will add both to my chilli sauces!<br/>I will be back, I will try everything on the menu and I will find out all the secret ingredients of that amazing sauce !

Let's just put it this way- Dos Amigos Cantina is good quality Mexican food at a reasonable price. Not as authentic as I would have hoped for but I have been here many times, whether it's with friends, family or even large birthday groups. The waitresses are very friendly and patient, and the food arrives quickly. The atmosphere is original and warm.<br/><br/>I usually have the grande nachos which is a VERY big portion so I would only recommend it as a main or sharing entree. The chili con carne is just delicious, the flavours are strong and it's just great to wash down with a mocktail or cocktail.
Megan Stericker
Slightly pricey but really yum. Very authentic. Dining experience is great: authentic sombreros available, Mexican band, and little dragons wearing little sombreros!!
Penny Bird
Wish I could do a 3 1/2 star as it deserves more than an average but not quite a 4* in my opinion.<br/>That said, I would recommended Dos Amigos as good food at a reasonable price. Not the best Mexican food I've had but certainly quite acceptable, authentic and tasty. The coffee however was burnt. We went on a busy night and the service was a bit slow but the staff were friendly and helpful.<br/>The Churros are definitely worth squeezing in on a full stomach.

Went there a few Sundays ago to meet up with a friend. Seating was easy - I'm a smoker so enjoyed sitting outside in the sun people watching. Bought a bucket of beer and relaxed into a yummy (and HUGE) plate of chicken nachos. Very tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it - especially on a lovely cruisy Sunday to wind down the weekend and brace for the new week.

Enjoyable experience,a friend and I had an early dinner on Sat 5th, shared a bucket of Sol (5) beers and ordered the grande Nachos (chicken) and full-rack of Ribs.<br/>Tasty, filling and good service - great people watching spot on the bench seat looking out. The place quickly filled up and everyone seemed to be enjoying what they ordered - we would definitely drop in here again.

We came here on 6th Jan for my friend's 40th dinner surprise, we were a table of 8. I had read mixed reviews for this restaurant and being in the industry was a little hesitant, but I have to say that we had great service and lovely food. Our waiter Kieren was charming and most obliging, making sure everyone was happy with their orders and was forthcoming with recommendations. He also let the birthday girl hold one of the lizards (at her request), the staff on presentation of her dessert sang her a happy birthday in Mexican and it made her night. Drinks was buy on get one free, an added bonus. Our other waitress I think her name was Karen, was also very good. Highly recommend the spicy wings, generous portion and spicyness just right. Great food, awesome staff (Kieren) and a great atmosphere on a busy night, look forward to coming back.

This has always been my go to fave place to eat until recently. Took my partner there for the first time (also his first time dining out for Mexican food) the cocktails were 'buy one get one free' so that was awesome but the compliments stop there. We waited an hour for our entree (blackened prawns) and had to ask on numerous occasions how long our food would be after seeing people seated after us eating, drinking, paying and leaving while we were still waiting on our entree..?? The prawns were excellent and just about worth the wait as we were getting happily tipsy in the process, but then having to wait another 30 mins for mains my partner was greatly disappointed at what was presented to him. He ordered the enchiladas and the way it was presented was pretty off putting to say the least the beans (which he specifically asked to be left off the plate) looked like they had been sitting on the bench for a half hour. Everything looked dry and the chicken and veg was sparce. Was sent back straight away he didn't even want to try it. When paying received a $1 discount even though we waited for an hour and a half and the meal wasn't touched?? $110 later went home hungry:( Bad service and bad food sad to say will not be eating here again!! Adios Dos Amigos

My partner and I were regulars at this restaurant and although we've been a bit disappointed with the service we've received, we kept going because we like the atmosphere and the food is pretty good (although let me clarify that this is tex-mex not real mexican). In any case, we went there again last night and this time for sure will be the last! We were served by 3 waitresses (at least) yet the level of service was terrible. I am latin american but have lived in the US all my life and I realise that customer service here in New Zealand is just not up to par with the way things are done at home but sometimes, it is just ridiculous! I don't know when they are going to learn and instill in workers that a happy customer is a returning customer. In this instance, we ordered a sangria, which tasted horrible so we asked if we could exchange it for a beer, only to be told (very rudely) by a heavy-set blonde woman that that's the way Sangria is made in Mexico! Seriously? Like I don't know any better...and in any case, sangria is not a mexican drink it is a spanish drink. Anyway, we ended up paying for a drink we didn't even touch and instead of absorbing a $12 loss and making the customer happy, they have instead lost a regular customer who spent almost $100 there on a biweekly basis. Very short-sighted business decisions if you ask me!

My partner and I came here for dinner after reading all of the good reviews but left very disappointed. The evening started off well and the entree and margaritas were delicious. After we had been there for about an hour, however, it was clear that they were just wanting to push us out the door. Following our mains (which were average), we were pretty much just ignored. We had to call someone over and ask them if we could order dessert at which point we were asked what we wanted without even being shown a menu. There was no offer for more drinks even though we wanted to order another round and we were sitting there with empty glasses. <br/><br/>As the rugby was about to start, after an hour and a half we asked if it was possible to move to the Cantina to watch the game (as the website says you can move here following your meal). We were told that they were too busy and that we would have to be on our way. We then overheard two of the staff talking about seating some of the walk-ins at our table once we had gone. It was clear that they just wanted to rid of us. I have never seen anything like it. I have never written a review on here before but felt compelled to as our night was so terrible.<br/><br/>As it was our anniversary, this definitely put a damper on our special occasion. We ended up going to De Fontein Beer Cafe in order to redeem the evening. We will not be back!!

MY wife and I went to Dos Amigos after saying we were going to go there for ages. We heard so many great things. We weren't disappointed. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced. The service was awesome with all the staff being really on to it and smiling all night long. We will definitely be back. Cheers

My whole family absolutely loves Dos Amigos! It's a great lively restaurant with a pumping atmosphere and people enjoying themselves. The drinks and food are fantastic and great service always! Meal portions are huge, so you're always getting your money's worth and meals are all well priced.

My wife and I are frequent patrons of Dos Amigos. We have introduced many friends to Lizard and his staff over the years, and they have all very much enjoyed the food, service, and excellent atmosphere. The food is excellent. If you are a fan of Mexican food, keep in mind that this is more Tex-Mex style than super authentic Mexican. That being said, it is one of the best Mexican-style restaurants in Auckland, and definitely worth trying out. If you are a fan of spicy food, make sure to request the Hero sauce with your order. I have a lot of experience with Mexican food (I'm American by birth) and my wife is Indian, so we both know what is expected of good spicy food. The Hero sauce has both heat and heaps of flavour, and is excellent on their wings. I am a loyal customer who will always be back for more. Gracias, El Lizardo, y toto el equipo de Dos Amigos!

Dos Amigos is a favorite restaurant of ours, we love the relaxed atmosphere and great service! We especially LOVE LOVE LOVE the Buffalo wings - (as authentic as you can get outside of USA) and frequently take advantage of the 2 for 1 wing special on a Tuesday. They also have amazing fajita's and the burritos are also delish! Having said that I never been disappointed by anything ive tried on the menu! If you are looking for some great food, amazing service, or just a quiet drink over looking mission bay check these guys out you wont be disappointed!

We come in frequently for their BBQ wings (entree) and Ribs (main) served on kumara fries. So yummy, filling and consistently good. <br/><br/>The staff are super helpful and friendly; weā€™re always greeted with a cheerful Hola! <br/><br/>Itā€™s easy to make reservations and they accommodate as much as possible (especially when you bring along stragglers).<br/><br/>It's a lively, fun atmosphere. Definitely a place Iā€™d take a group of people for a birthday etc. What makes Dos special is they truly make an effort to give you an enjoyable experience and be involved in your dining event. There are sombrero's around the place that you can wear and of course the lizards (maria maria?) to have a look at.<br/><br/>Plus you've got the best views around.<br/><br/>We'll be back again next week.<br/><br/>PS make sure you try one of their margarita's!

We had a terrific time here last night! We were particularly impressed with the friendly, excellent service. <br/>My personal favourite flavour of the night was the guacamole. There was amazing flavour in there - the lemon, with the salt, and of course the creamy avocado, a hint of tomato. Very yum. We shared that with the entree of corn-chips. Also the bean entree was extremely tasty, with quite a creamy texture, delicious flavours, plenty of tasty onions and I think sour-cream.<br/><br/>For my main, I had the Quesadilla - which is the one that has a flat, folded tortilla filled with delicious sauteed vegetables, and of course melted cheese. On the side were red rice, beans, sour cream &amp; guacamole. I have to say, it was really tremendous!<br/><br/>Here's the one thing I didn't like about the evening... underneath the tables there was something sticky! Too scared to look and see what was making my legs sticky... but my friend next to me had the same problem! (We were sat on the bench seats at the very back tables by the Christmas tree.)<br/><br/>ANYway... Excellent margaritas of course, we shared 'La Playa' - the watermelon one.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was buzzing. There were a couple of authentically Mexican guys singing with guitar in sombreros. Nice touch.<br/><br/>And a final shout-out to the staff - a very welcoming, bubbly blond woman who greeted us and directed us to our tables; a brilliant waiter full of smiles who took our orders, and even remembered our names (we all wrote our names on a sheet at the start for separate bills) but then he remembered after that, each time he served us. Nice touch.<br/>Thanks for a tremendous night! :)
Angela Bennett
I booked my work dinner here after having a meal here months ago.<br/>I got sent a txt two hours before dinner to tell me to make sure everybody had to be on time! And that we only had a two hour window to eat drink and be merry! Some of us actually like to enjoy our meals when we eat out! Once we all got there finally got served. We all got our meals and they mucked up our meals even after I had written down everyone's name the waitress was a grumpy person who needs a lesson in customer service!!<br/>We hadn't even finished our dinner and she told us to have desert and throws down some children's ice-cream even though there were no kids with us and told us to move outside and then ignored us for the rest of the night. Needless to say I will not be returning! Lucky for us the great thing about Mission Bay is that there are restaurants everywhere.
Sonrisa Bella
Great place - the food is delicious (hard to get decent Mexican in Auckland!) and the service is friendly. On weekends it's packed but has a great atmosphere, particularly with the mariachi band that comes around! Definitely will go back...again and again...!
Barbara Goldie
We enjoy going here for lunch, my partner likes the BBQ &amp; ranch chicken wrap with curly fries because he's not much into Mexican food, but it's my chance to get taco salad or nachos or quesadilla's so I'm happy! I also want to try their ribs sometime if we go at dinner, I've heard they are delicious! Being from Texas, I really miss Mexican or Tex-mex food, so this is a treat for me, but it's still pretty tame if you're looking for hardcore Mexican food. Oh and the chips they serve before your meal with salsa always taste stale to me, maybe that's just the way they prepare them? But overall, we keep going back :) We don't drink, so I can't comment on their alcoholic beverages.
Mark Goldie
Love this place, it's our 5th time here and have yet to try the ribs, expect this review to be modified once the famous ribs are sampled.<br/>The staff are friendly and the food is well cooked, if you have kids they are treated to view the little sand lizards in the tank.
NishLish
Our fav place to go for Mexican food! Have been here for a quick but good dinner, and also on group occasions. They handle these situations fine. Service is always good, they are very facilitative in moving tables (for example if wanting to sit outside etc.). <br/>The food is always great, have tried many things on the menu. Always exceptionally presented and huge portion sizes!! Good range of margaritas and other drinks also.
Siobhan
Stumbled upon this place and was enticed by the $15 meal and drink deal. I got the chicken wrap and my friend ordered the nachos, both tasty! Service was quick and friendly :)
Courtney
The food was amazing! I will definately be back :)
Lyndsay
This place is the best Mexican I have had, so fresh, and the portions are huge, and the price is very reasonable. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone!!! :-)
Tim Warren
Reasonable Mexican, but best ribs in NZ. Really impressed.<br/>Service could be a little swifter, but is friendly.
Wanderlust
I love this place. <br/><br/>I went here for a friends birthday, we ordered all the Margarita jugs, starters and main meals. <br/><br/>We had such a blast, the staff were great! We were all a little 'happy' from the Margarita and they had fun with us. They gave my friend a tequila shot, they sang happy birthday, gave us their hats, and sang next to our table. It was a awesome atmosphere. The manger was not there, which was good. Ive gone before and he was there. He's just a huge drag and an atmosphere in himself !<br/><br/>The drinks were tasty, still slightly pricey per jug, but they always are, get over it. <br/><br/>The food was great, who cares if its authentic or not. It was good food. The only downside with the food is that two of us ordered hot, and they were at the very least medium. More heat would be great. <br/><br/>I cant wait to go again :)
Nicole
Fantastic night out! <br/>Really large group (30 people) of us for my birthday. They were so accommodating to fit us all in...and get all our food out within 15 minutes!<br/>Great service, really friendly and helpful.<br/>Great food, I think between the 30 of us we sampled nearly everything on the menu and everyone enjoyed it. The ribs were a favourite! and the churros and mocha flan for dessert...yum yum yum! Pinarita margarita was really good too.<br/>Great atmosphere with the live band.<br/>Will definitely be back!

We love to go out to eat and the service we receive is hard to beat. Very helpful, very friendly and the food, oh the food is hard to beat. I recommend the place to everyone we meet who love Mexican food.<br/><br/>Ron Lake and family

I am originally from Colorado, which has a huge Hispanic population so I have grown up on some amazing Mexican food. I have tried all of the Mexican restaurants in NZ, this by far is the worst one. My partner and I tried to give it another chance tonight (after a really high bill and some very unimpressive food the first time) and had an even worse experience. <br/><br/>We arrived at 7:30 and wanted to go to a movie at 8:30. I knew it was a fast turnover, but I worked in the restaurant business for 5 years and I know that you should have about a 20 min turnover time from order to delivery.... ours took 45 minutes. We waited and waited and finally after 40min we asked them if they could just make it to go so we could put it in the car before the movie. This then took another 5-10 minutes after some gruff from the server. So we went and saw the movie, came home and opened our to go containers... Well the beef on my bfs fajitas wasn't even sliced up and after 3 minutes of microwaving was still pretty raw. The tortillas on the enchiladas were disgusting and the food had zero flavor. Not a fan, never going back. <br/><br/>If you want good mexican food go somewhere else. Don't waste your money here.
Amyparker129
Food was fantastic, I can recommend the quesadillas and the tortillas but I'm sure everything else is great too! They have an extensive selection of different margaritas too, the one I tried, the Pinarita was delicious. The service could not have been better. Fantastic atmosphere. What else could you want!
Teresa
Thanks Lizard for a great night for me and the girls.. food OTT should have ordered a half portion of the ribs.. staff fabulous..wish I could remember the name of who looked after us .. do remember she had a long plait .. glad I escaped before the tequila shot .. you have a great restaurant .. the girls and I will be back .. Brilliant if you want a few beers before you head into town, or to laze away a hot summer afternoon. Recommend a bucket of Sol or the spicy cave creek chili beer. Bright and cheerful waiting staff bring personality and energy to service.<br/><br/>Truly awful if you are hungry though. We picked through a mixed starter that was 70% chips, 20% emaciated chicken wings and 10% unspecified slop. The main course didn't fare much better as it was just a grander version of the starter. Maybe we didn't order well, but the burritos and quesadillas were identical bar the heating method. Greasy slop with little flavour, zero heat and baby food texture.<br/><br/>In summary. Use Dos Amigos Cantina as a bar and you 'll have a great time.

I was passing by this afternoon looking for somewhere to meet friends. Luckily I past by Dos Amigos and grabbed a table outside with my daughter.<br/>The wait staff were so friendly. Table was quickly cleaned and menus brought out.<br/>I ordered the taco salad. I wanted something light and fast. My daughter ordered from the children's menu. She chose the Nachos loco with the chicken and loved it. It wasn't too spicy for her.<br/>I was happy with the salad. just enough for me. We had just started to eat when the restaurant was evacuated due to the fire alarm going off. We waited around 15 mins before the all clear.<br/>I didn't need to ask for the food to be reheated or replaced, Instead the owner told me he was going to replace everything for us straight away. Now that's service.<br/>Over all, I was very impressed with everything. Food, service and menu oh, and the churros were amazing with the pot of chocolate. Can't wait to go back again.

I've been searching New Zealand for good Mexican. Unfortunately, I haven't found it yet.<br/><br/>We ordered the buffalo wings to start (which have nothing to do with Mexican food but...) and they were small but really good.<br/><br/>We also ordered enchiladas and the tamales. The food took quite a while to come out even though there weren't that many people in the place. <br/><br/>Both of the dishes were ok. Nothing to write home about. Both meals were extremely salty too. The chicken was pretty dry and there wasn't barely any sauce. For 20-25 bucks a pop, we were expecting a lot more. <br/><br/>And then the margaritas...$25 for a tiny "jug" that was barely enough for 2 people.<br/><br/>I wouldn't go back here nor recommend it to anyone. The food was way way overpriced for what you get. I'd take a small Mexican joint in Chicago for a fraction of the price any day.

Went here for lunch - very friendly and helpful staff. Menu had a lot of variety and waitress was helpful in giving info on the menu. Didnt have to wait long for food and it was absolutely delicious - best mexican I have ever had. Will definately be coming back here again.

This is my favorite restaurant!! If i can afford it i try to go once a week and i live over 60 km away. I cant get enough of it! The service is great the food is awesome! I must warn, don't go unless you can go back because after the first time you'll be hooked!! =)

Arrived on a wed night, had heard great things about this place. Not a huge venue, but was full when we arrived, glad I booked in advanced.<br/><br/>I had the ribs, my wife had the chicken chili mole, very authentic. Food was great, so was the cocktails. Would definitely go again. Prices were very reasonable.<br/><br/>Would have give 5 out of 5, but had to wait quite a while to get served between courses. May have been a busy night. Staff were very friendly. Great family and function venue.
Sarah
Went there last night with a group of friends, really amazing place!! So impressed.<br/><br/>Great value for money (especially if you have the entertainment book voucher), exceptional service (complete with Mexican phrases and accents!), and amazing food.<br/><br/>I had the spare ribs, one of their non alcoholic cocktails Chit... I... (I can't remember the name exactly), and the flan for dessert. They came out fairly promptly, and all were wonderfully made.<br/><br/>Can't rave about this place enough, keep up the good work Dos Amigos Cantina! :)
Goodtimes2011
Went to Dos Amigos for lunch today YUMMM!!! I am a huge fan of Mexican food and couldn't have been happier with my wrap and half of hubby's nachos! The waiter that served us was great and happily put up with my winging baby and a few spills!!! will absolutely be back to try some more of the appealing menu options
Lillian
Enjoyed my buffalo wings quite a bit, friends fajitas looked great (4 tortillas + sizzling plate of meat to assemble your own). Disappointed with the small margaritas jug - $27 only enough for 2 people or one thirsty person. Shame we missed out on dessert with such fulfilling main - would have to come back another time. Love the vibe here &amp; lizards on display!
Rob Clarke
Popped in for a quick lunch. Very broad selection of food, and the biggest range of Tequila I have ever seen. Food was very good, arrived nice and quickly, service was fine. Black beans with main were best ever. Definitely will return.

Went to Dos Amigos last night. We had a table of 9. Got to say the service from the waiter and the food was great. The manager however needs to go on a communication course. We had booked for 7.30pm and I rang just after 6pm to ask if we could change our booking to 8pm. The manager (I believe they call him Lizard) said he would but then proceeded to tell me that they like to rollover tables and they were really busy that night and could have booked out the table to someone else earlier if we had booked for 8pm originally. I apologised and said we had a big table so we would be spending plenty of money anyway. I understand that changing a booking is a pain but I don't need to get a lecture about it. Anyway, the meal was great, the drinks were great. Lizard seemed to be in a better mood. Until it was time to settle the bill. He came up to the table and said 'the bill has been split 9 ways'. Two of us at the table had Entertainment Book vouchers and we said we would like to use them. He said no, the bill has already been split. I didn't realise that two people had actually paid for their dinner already, so I said I would just pay it all so we could use the vouchers. He told me he didn't have to honour the vouchers anyway because they were for El Centro which was taken over by Dos Amigos. I pointed out that the Entertainment Book website promotes the restaurant as Dos Amigos and says it honours the vouchers in the name of El Centro. He said no, you cant use them, its too late and you will have to use them next time. Anyway, it was not the fact that we couldn't use them, it was the communication technique involved. He was really really rude and we were all very shocked. So here is a tip Lizard that I learned while working in customer service: one unhappy customer tells 9 other people who in turn tell another 3. None of us will go back, despite the great food and wonderful waiter.
Emma Atkinson
I absolutely love Dos Amigos, been there twice now and just cant get enough of the great food, atmosphere and service. Thanks for my great birthday experience.

My wife and I went to Dos Amigos a few weeks ago and unfortunately we had our order lost and we ended up leaving without our food. But a few days after this event the owner/head chef Rob contacted me and asked if we'd like to come back as his guest. <br/>So we went back to the restaurant tonight and met Rob, who was a great guy and very hospitable. We ordered the Quesidilla and the toquitos and they were both fantastic. We also had the churros for dessert and they were the best churros that ive ever had.<br/>I really appreciated the extra mile that they went for us and I would definately recommend going to try the food, im sure you'll love it. Just make sure to book as its such a popular place.
Mary Darlow
Another Fantastic Meal at Dos Amigos! Food is superb (including the Churros at the end!), ambience is awesome (loved the real sombrerros) and service is some of the most friendliest in town. Have been three times already, and have the fourth booked in. Best restaurant in town by far!
Sarah Stone
I absolutely loved this place. Great wait staff, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. The fried ice cream ball in a tortilla shell was simply the best dessert I have ever eaten. I would not hesitate to visit again and recommend to others.

We go to Mexican Cafe in city all the time and its the only Mexican resturant we have been too... thought it was time to try somewhere - glad we did.<br/><br/>Food was much tastier - and service so much better!<br/>This may just be our new Mexican - only thing I would miss is the atmosphere of Mexican cafe.
Carol-Ann, (Turbo-turtle!)
Wow! where do i start?... I have been a regular since Dos Amigos opened! I'm addicted to the yummy sizzling-big juicy Prawn Fajitas, quesadilla's &amp; Churros &amp; Fried Icecream...mmmmmm (makes me wanna go there now!) <br/>Apart from fantastic, genuinely friendly 'mexicano style' service- go Jessica! who wears a sombrero hat bigger than her!, the menu has so many delicious &amp; authentic meals to chose from. The serves are generous &amp; prices very reasonable. <br/>I have also never had ANY restaurant EVER try so hard to cater for my 'severe anaphylactic food allergies' before, AND SUCCEED! (which i might say is scary for everyone concerned!) <br/>Thank you Rob, Aaron and the rest of the awesome team. As 'Arnie would say- "I'll be back!"
Ashleigh Whittaker
I just went there for a mothers day dinner. The mexican food was such a step up from the limited amount available in Auckland and it was hard to choose because there was so many good options. More than just the typical fare. The ribs were extremely tender and the sauce was delicious but the most outstanding part of the meal was the Churros. Best dessert eva!!
Kristin
We booked a table for 6 at Dos Amigos last Friday night having had it recommended to us by friends. We were totally impressed by the food, the drinks and the service. <br/><br/>Dinner was delicious - we all ordered something different but favs at our table were the quesadilla's and chimichanga.<br/><br/>The margarita's were equally spesh - perhaps the experts on the liquor king pre-mix should stick to what they know! There was nothing mass-produced about our drinks, the selection and quality was excellent.<br/><br/>We are so happy to have a little piece of Mexico on the Mission Bay strip. We'll certainly be back!
Amber Stoehr
We have been to Dos Amigos twice now and it is the closest to authentic mexican we have in this corner of the world. The Chilli Rejeno are to die for and the Tequila Chicken are a favourite amongst my friends and family. I am looking forward to the continual expansion of the restaurant. Keep it up guys!
Paul
This is a step above other Mexican in Auckland. The quality of ingredients was great and the food was very tasty. Service was great from 2 out of the three staff on the floor but being new I'm sure they'll sort that out. I can't comment on the margaritas cos I didn't have one but if you don't like expensive drinks go to the off license and drink at home.
Ashley Brown
Took a party of 4 for a meal - food was very good, freshly made in Mexican Heaven - will definitely go back. Thanks Dos Amigos for a great meal, we were really impressed.

I'm from the States, and I've missed the Mexican food from home big time.<br/>I went to Dos Amigos this weekend with some friends and I have only good things to say about these guys. The beef nachos was classic with the tastiest beef and guacamole and with lots of cheese. The Chili con Carne was-to my surprise- made from real beef with lots of spices ( not mince and paste) Far from bland!<br/> We are definetely going back.I recommend it to everyone who is craving tasty mexican cooking!
Sophie Crisp
We've had a number of great meals at Dos Amigos since it has opened and we were very happy with the service and the food! The staff are incredibly friendly, accommodating and full of knowledge (and songs too if you're lucky). The food was delicious and perfect sized portions too! Very happy a decent Mexican restaurant is finally close to us!

love this place. good quality of food and awesome services :)

This place is definitely one of the better options at Mission Bay, though I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Extensive menu, and vibrant presentation, but service can be patchy, especially if you are seated outside or tucked out of sight.<br/><br/>The BBQ ribs were juicy and tasty; the taco salad though was not that exciting. The taco shell was baked hard rather than crispy fried, and the filling had large amounts of bland guacamole and sour cream. I would have preferred some beans and/or rice in place of some of that.<br/><br/>Having said that, the atmosphere is happy and relaxed, and this would make a great place for a group, especially if you have some unadventurous eaters. The bearded dragons are cute too!

Last week we had a birthday party there, it is a favourite of ours for tasty affordable authentic Mexican food with friends. Expect to wait for your table in the weekends, but there is a bar to keep you occupied, helpful staff combined with a delicious selection of tasty food makes for a fun night out. They have show in the weekend, you can check the website of them, the service stuff are very helpful. they would like to guide you in your menu ,answer your question and it's very busy store, they could maintain such good quality service, it's awesome !!<br/><br/>We almost tried all the dishes of it, all the dishes served with salad ,the plate is very big, so I think 2 girls can share one plate, the food looks like very healthy and colourful, ,the combination of sauce ,meat beans sour cream, cheese rice just make your mouth very balanced and fresh. We specially like B.B.Q Pork Ribs $28, it serve in big plate very juicy very good tasty. We also recommend ,Burrito $22, Chimichanga $22, the tasty food just is very balanced and healthy. We also order the sangria, it serve with ginger ale, just not tasty like we try in Mexico downtown, so I do not recommend the sangria. Also one thing, book early if a big group !

Here was me thinking - not another Mexican. There seem to be a lot of these popping up all over Auckland right now. However, Dos Amigos has been around a wee while now, and is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in Auckland. Itā€™s owned and operated by Mexican folks, which is always a good starter. Itā€™s overlooking Mission Bay and is just down the road from the Berkley Cinema, so makes it great as a place to go with friends after a night at the flicks or a sunny day at the beach.<br/><br/>Every time I go there, the staff are always really friendly and welcoming and they seem pretty genuine, which is a nice surprise because some of the new Mexican restaurants have a 'stack-em-in' approach toward customers and customer service.<br/><br/>The beer selection is spot on, the cocktails are authentic, the Quesidillas and Nachos were close to the best Iā€™ve ever eaten, and if you are still not full after all of that, the Churros or the Chimichanga will get ya!<br/><br/>Friendly, lively and reasonably priced. Look out for the bearded dragons up at the back!
