Review Billfish Cafe - Auckland

We had a wonderful time here, the place is quiet, nicely located in the front of the harbour bridge, and facing the charters, smell of fresh sea water, lunch or dinner is just relaxing. We had lunch there the food menu is just enough, the have Chef Special available. I had Seafood Pizza, it was great, topping is fresh salmon, squids... Just nice, but personally find it the filling sauce is a little sweet, the other had Thai Curry and Fish and Chips, they are as nice, very recommend. Free parking available, disability friendly

It's one of the best cafes that has a seafaring atmosphere. Absolutely friendly staffs. I booked a table for two via their website twice but then for some odd reasons the website thanked me for the booking. But I did not receive any confirmation as such. So, I assumed that the booking has gone through and I can visit the café. I, go in with my friend the next day but found out that my name wasn't there in their reservation list. But the staffs were very good who went up to their manager and managed to give us an amazing seating. I really appreciate that which makes us feel valued. I would definitely return to this place with more of my friends and have a great time. You guys rock in hospitality. Cheers!🥂

Awesome ambience. Nice view to the harbour. Good for a date 😀😀. Food is good but quite expensive. One try is good. Plus great and helpful staff.

Bill fish never fails to surprise us. We've loved this place for many years. So good that we hosted our Wedding Party here. This winter they had a world class Crayfish Bisque Soup with Garlic soft bread ... all for $14!!! It was a magnificent dish.

This is a delightful cafe situated right beside the water with lovely outdoor seating under umbrellas, in the fresh sea air. On a warm sunny day and even an overcast day the environment is idyllic. The menu has a definite seafood slant and my fish curry was the absolute best I have ever eaten, but if you prefer simple battered fish and chips then they also do that beautifully. I’ll definitely be back

Attended this restaurant for private dinner event. A set menu offered a selection of seafood pasta, sirloin steak, or fresh snapper. The meals were very good and the portions generous. Friendly waiting staff looked after us very well. I will visit again.

Dropped my ASB platinum card last Sunday and staff were kind enough to safe-keep for me for the entire week. Excellent coffee and views to die for too! Will definitely be back to try the oyster and prawns.

Have visited a few times now; Best Fish n Chips I have ever had in Auckland! Super fresh and good batter and thick cut chips. The ambience is lovely, nice view and great service; the managers/owners are lovely. Look forward to visiting again!

Great service. Extremely friendly. Quantity of food reflects the prices. I ordered the Seafood Chowder. The seafood was cooked to perfection. Soup a little watery for my liking. Overall experience, extremely pleasant. Would I come back? Definitely!

Great food and coffee Nice environment, right near the water.

We had a very nice brunch here, service was great. The coffee was good enough to warrant a second, the eggs benedict was very good, but I was brave and had the smoked fish hotpot and it was very, very good. It was quite cheesy, but in a good way, and wasn't padded out with mashed potato like they can be. I was pleased I went out of my comfort zone, and I will have to return to have it again.

The service is good. The food is fine but why can't you have crispy bacon? So I asked. You have to request crispy bacon apparently. And I thought there was no other type. But they discounted our bill which was a lovely gesture and quite unexpected.

very good. food is yummy.

One of the best hidden gems in town and a firm favorite of mine, right on the water with amazing views and a sun trap. Service is great, friendly attentive staff, their food while not high end/ fancy is just honest and fresh. Come here for the freshest fish while soaking up the sun and views away from the hustle and bustle

A delightful lunch in a perfect venue for a fabulous autumn day. We booked a table, which was perfect and were greeted by several staff on arrival. The table setting was very attractive and we relaxed into a nice glass of Sauvignon blanc, as it was International Sav Blanc Day, while we perused a new (to us) and sophisticated menu . But our hearts were set on the truly outstanding fish and chips Billfish serve. We were not disappointed! Melt in the mouth beer batter on fresh terakihi with plenty of lemon wedges and golden chips. Loved it ! No room for dessert but we had a great afternoon, excellent food and very attentive staff!

Always a great place to go to enjoy great food in a tranquil setting. Love the place

It's a very relaxing hidden gem of a place to meet up with friends. Whether for dinner or lunch or just a coffee break the staff look after you and the chefs create amazing fresh seafood dishes to tempt your palate. Treat yourself and try it out. You will keep going back time and time again. Plenty of parking too.

On account of my jet lag I was up pretty bright and early one morning and had planned to have breakfast in my hotel, the Sofitel. Unfortunately, however the room rate did not include breakfast & one look at the breakfast prices convinced me that I could do better elselwhere. So I got my running shoes on and left for somewhere more reasonable and atmospheric. I was preliminarily delayed by a detour to watch part of the Auckland marathon talking place that day. The finish line was on my way to the ocean. Having watched the early runners - those running in ca. 2h 10 minutes I then strolled along to the so-called Z pier and stumbled on the Billfish cafe which had a nice deck looking out onto the bay. It was very quiet when I arrived and my milky coffee was soon ordered and being served by friendly and helpful waitresses. I chose the Skipper's big breakfast, comprising streaky bacon, port chipolata sausages, grilled tomatoes and scrambled egg all served on a bed of a large potato based Swiss style rösti. Their ideas around Skippers are ones involving guys with hearty apetities. It took me a while to finish it but I persevered. By the time I left the place, notably the outside deck was filling up with annoying loud older ladies talking about their husbands golf engagements and booking hotels from the mobile phones. All rather pretentious... But the restaurant can't do much about their clientele I suppose. Oh, and they have free WiFi - at least for the first 30 minutes.

Amazing fish curry! Lovely place, lovely service, lovely music.

Fabulous location. Staff very attentive. Food was fresh & delish. Left my jacket hope it's still there for family to pick up on Saturday. Thanks Billfish cafe for a lovely birthday celebration lunch

Was expecting great food and a lot more seafood on the menu. Mediocre fish and chips (fish was absolutely tasteless, no seasoning at all), sizzling prawns would've been good but most were overcooked and chewy, tartare sauce(?) Mayonnaise (?) was split and added no value to any of the meals. Chowder was pleasant, quite watery not really chowder, was more of a creamy soup with some seafood added, needed seasoning. Staff friendly but not efficient, except one who seemed to run the place (Claudia? Courtney?) Overpriced and not the great value it used to be. Seafood on menu is minimal - for a place with such a great location, would expect more options for seafood and better cooked. Where is the scampy, crayfish etc? The fish market is so close - needs better menu. Unimpressed.<br/>

Went here after reading the latest reviews and was so disappointed. I ordered the fish and chips, thinking if they can do that well I would be return visitor for sure. But nope. It was pretty average to be fair. Chips were not crisp at all. Fish was pretty bland and the tartare sauce watery. The service was the only redeeming factor but when asked how the food was I had to reply with a simple “it was...ok”.
Fiesole Marks
Food was very average, fish very bland and slimy inside the batter (which was crispy), soggy chips and coffee was also average. Service was good. Wouldn’t go back, not worth the price.

For everyone's info, dined here probably once a year for last 7/8 years. Food was ok.<br/>Could get similar from maccas. Well, dined there Friday evening, WOW! asked staff why, their reply, they have a new Chef. Me n the missus will be regulars.

As good as it gets location right by the water, lots of parking. Food is great and so is friendly staff.<br/>Sizzling Prawns was my favourite and the Fish n Chips and Pan Fried Shnapper was also very good. They say the Bluffie season is coming soon<br/>I will be back.<br/><br/>

Great food and good spot.<br/>Love the Market fish plate and salads.<br/>Lovely staff, cozy and one of my preferred places to<br/>Have lunch.<br/>Amanda and Luisa. who is part of the team, are very kind. <br/>
Amanda Teixeira Bovo
Lovely place. I should say, it’s the best mocha ever. ;) I love to have my coffee by the water watching a beautiful view, boats and sky. Happy and excellent staff.<br/>I’ll be back next week for sure. 💜

I always have great experiences here. I've organised a few Xmas work functions previously as well as had personal experiences here and I've always had attentive and helpful service. Food is always fresh and delicious and the location is beautiful especially on a nice sunny day. They have a fantastic outdoor area which can hold functions and inside is just as good. Would highly reccomend coming here especially if you're out to have good food and see Aucklands beautiful marina.

Total rip off. Worst food so heavily overpriced - I am ashamed this place even exists in Auckland. Total tourist trap, great views but just terrible food and decor
Diogo Reck
Good sea views and nice food makes this place a great choice for a sunny day. Been there once with my partner and another friend.<br/><br/>I had the kumara hash and it was awesome. One of the best brekkies I tried in Auckland! My friend's choices were also good but the eggs were overcooked.

We went on a Sunday... Live entertainment.. food was fresh and yum. Fish of the day was snapper ... <br/>Nice spot, nice food, relaxed atmosphere.

Firstly I'd like to say that the service was really good! However for me personally the food at those prices was not.<br/>I had your natural oysters, a dozen, shared and they were less than average. The lemon ginger 'infused' oil that came in the dropper bottle was tasteless amd just oil really. Balsamic vinegar also isn't ideal to be severed with "freshly shucked" oysters. For $40 we honestly had expected better to be honest.<br/>Next I ordered the prawn cocktail. Japanese inspired it said with Tiger prawns. This is not an entree fyi. $29.50 this was. It came out on a dish resembling a canoe. No longer than 25cm and 7cm in width. It was a coleslaw, dripping in eta mayonnaise with some prawns that had been thawed from frozen which were not tiger prawns. I was honestly mortified you feel you can charge that, for well, that!!!!!<br/>Others who'd ordered the traditional fish and chips or market fish dishes were impressed. Good portions. Fresh fish, even the steak dish looked impressive.<br/>I was severely disheartened and sadly I will not be back. If anything I'd ask you to re look at what your charging and what you get for such dishes as that prawn cocktail and your oysters you serve at that price. As mentioned above the staff were friendly amd helpful and your wine list was great too.

If you know me.... you know I'm a fan of eggs benedicts and if you want a good one, this is the place to be!<br/><br/>Billfish is located right in front of the harbour (the water and boats are literally in front of you). Perfect for a weekend brunch in the city.<br/><br/>The Staff are super patient, friendly and helpful (especially the current restaurant manager ✌🏽).<br/><br/>Check out the photos and surely you will be convinced to visit the place.<br/><br/>😍

Came here once with my wife ages ago. My memory is great. This time it is also great. Ordered Soup of the day, Seafoo Pasta, and Bloody Mary Oyster. All excellent. All flavoursome. All tasty. Service was attentive, helpful. Will come back again. Shame they close at 8pm only someday.

Was a +1 for a Christmas work function, the location was great, the waitresses were lovely & inviting BUT the bar ran out of certain drinks & the buffet provided appeared as if it were ordered from a countdown deli. The area which was set for our party become very hot & stuffy, the setup of the tables also meant we appeared sectioned off from each other & we could not mingle & socialise as easily. We were forced to go out doors onto the deck area for fresh air. Also the music played was something you would hear in an elevator if you could hear it at all & it tended to disappear completely, when asked if the music could be turned up a wee bit, we were told the other party guests would not approve despite us asking their permission first.

Dined here for dinner on a Saturday night and the place is very romantic. We sat outside and the view is beautiful. Staff were attentive and friendly. We ordered oysters, fish and chips and steak plus glasses of wine and desserts. Overall food was pretty average, my fish and chips was "okay" and steak was cooked well but again flavours were average. However oysters were delicious and fresh. A bit on the pricey side but the views are worth it, if you ever want to take someone on a romantic date then this place is not bad for it!

I had the best fish curry in my life! Succulent pieces of fish, aromatic flavours and just impeccable service to go with it.<br/>Reasonably priced and adequate amounts, but definitely left wanting more! Keep up the great work.

Bill fish is a great place. From the beautiful view out over the Marina to the friendly staff and amazing food. <br/><br/>Often come down for a few lazy drinks most days. Great watering hole ☺.<br/><br/>Highly recommend.

Great location. Great service. Fast attentive perfectly mannered by all the staff. The entrees were nice. Had the shrimps and calamari. The sauce for the shrimp was particularly nice. Darling wife had the grilled fish I had the fish and chips. The wine, a sav blanc was really good. Can't remember the name of it but it was the most expensive one. If I have a complaint it was the out of a bottle tartare sauce that came with my main. Tasted like Watties from a bottle. Overly vinegary and not what you'd expect from a good place. I want to go back because overall it was good and there were plenty of other things on the menu that looked nice and sitting down by the water in summer time is a great experience.

What a gorgeous location! Very friendly staff. Good food but the black pudding was cold on the Kiwi Breakfast. The smoothies are worth having, especially the Mixed Berry.
Vanessa Morris
Beautiful spot overlooking the marina . Has just been freshened up inside. Nice food, friendly waiters but.....<br/>Didn't offer cocktails! A big no no for me as I was there for a birthday celebration which called for cocktails! Bar was well stocked so just couldn't understand why not.? The positioning of the cafe is way over on Z pier. A bit of a distance from anywhere but I did notice a water taxi out front..perhaps that's an easy way to get into town without driving?
Chloe
Great little café, delicious pastrys and muffins both sweet and savoury. Very lovley staff :) would love to return and try out the restaurant.
Hung Quoc Bui
the food is quite average. We had to wait a bit long for the food to come out, we had egg benedict and work omelette on the day. The restaurant was not that busy at all on a Saturday morning, but the chef looked a bit confused when we asked the waitress when our food will be ready. Bacon was overcooked and the hollandaise sauce didn't tasted that fresh to me at all. However, the location is impeccable and the waitresses are quite friendly. Food 2.5/5 Location+ Atmosphere: 4.5/5Service: 3.5/5

Had brunch on a Sunday morning . The surroundings are awesome, great and efficient service. Good coffee and the food is good although quite pricey. Definitely the view and surroundings is the winner here! Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome

Lovely food with a pretty view! Lovely staff! The eggs bene with smoked salmon is amazing! I like that it was proper salmon piece unlike most cafes! Was very filling but very satisfying!

Had a business lunch here during the week. We were a table of 6. Location and view is excellent. The service was prompt and attentive from the young bubbly asian waitress who served us. Ordered a round of drinks which came out quickly. The seating was a bit cramped as most of my colleagues are ex rugby players but we were snug.<br/>Had the seafood fettuccine, it was creamy with good portions of fish and shellfish and good amounts of cheese and pasta. I like to eat my pasta dishes with fork and spoon so surprised no spoons were supplied. The waiter was quick to resolve that so that was a good save. The staff are sharp here so full credit to them<br/>The others were very happy with the meals and they went down a treat too. After the meal we had a round of various coffees and they were well rec'd too. This is a lovely place to eat out at and we could've all kicked back and got into drinks etc on a beautiful day like we had!

What really makes Billfish a hidden gem is not its food or service but its bump for their spectacular view of the Auckland Harbour. This is definitely a place to go to if you would like to impress that special someone. It's worth being seated outside so you can enjoy the marvels of the view while dining, making it one of my hidden gems found for viewing pleasures. It overlooks the harbour bridge, the waters, the marina/viaduct and the yachts. After your meal you can enjoy a stroll along the marina below to marvel at the yachts. Abit of an exploring voyage for the romantics or for the leisure-seeker.<br/><br/>Sometimes if you're lucky you can catch a live music performance outside on the deck which makes it a bonus to dine to. The restaurant brings sophistication in a classy al fresco style. It is a popular demand to be seated outside, I suggest booking if possible but it might be challenging to book for 2 as there is more seats for larger groups. <br/><br/>The menu has an extensive range in seafood but not all is fairly priced for its portion. I particularly enjoyed the Seafood Chowder, creamy and generously full of seafood surprises. If you plan to go with a big group, be sure to order the Seafood platter as it contains a bunch of seafood wonders fit for a king's feast.

We had lovely brunch. Great hidden gem of a place in terms of location - especially sitting outside on a sunny day with great views of the marina. I loved the hotpot, and although on the small side, the flavour was intense and delicious. My family ordered omelette, pancakes and fish cake. All looked good, but nothing particularly spectacular. Note - free parking in the blue marked bluefish cafe parking - so don't pay for parking elsewhere in the marina like we did!

I made a booking at Billfish for a group of 13 for lunch on a Sunday, then I made the mistake of reading the reviews on here, which now, after dining here, seem petty and irrelevant. I feel sorry for the owner of this restaurant, as it's silly reviews about the price of coffee and petty complaints about a special not being available etc that can ruin a business. I felt obliged after dining here today to write a genuine, fair and good review of this restaurant. <br/><br/>I couldn't fault this place today, the service was perfect, the food came out quickly given our group size and the fact that there was another very large group beside us and the food was great!!! The majority of the table ordered fish and chips, fish was beautifully fresh and everything presented perfectly. Sure fish and Chips are easy, and in a restaurant like this you expect them to be done well and rest assured they were perfect. The grilled fish (which I had) was beautiful and the Moa battered fish also got rave reviews. Others ordered the chicken sandwich, which was more like a burger, no complaints there, and the Cajun fish was also delicious. My little girl had fish bites off the kids menu, and the plate was huge! A kids version of the adults fish and chips, so really good value. Food is a little on the pricey side, but hey, so is pretty much every restaurant in Auckland these days. Wine list was extensive and the location just topped off what was a great lunch. Staff were friendly and incredibly attentive, not once did we have to ask for anything, they were ahead of us the whole time. I would definitely dine here again.
Marlee Craig
Well we had breakfast here, loved the food, my fish hotpot had a lot of taste, loved the smokiness of the fish. It was a small serving of a small bowl and two ciabattas but I found that the flavours made up for that. The portions were just right for me. Were happy to be the only customers there at the time, and we're happy that we had billfish cafe to ourselves for that moment. My friend had the salmon with eggs benedict and she loved it. The wait wasn't long for our food. Lovely Views of the Marina and yes we would go back again.

Friday Night dinner for 11 - To celebrate a birthday. We were disappointed, were dining early in the evening (6.30 booking). After being given the specials board and menus and taking a while to look over the menu were then told as we were about to order that there were no Oysters available, then from the specials board no pork belly available. As there was no one else in the café we assume there were none available when we walked in the door - wish we had been told earlier as some of us were about to order both!!. Ordered starters from the Tapas menu - almost everything deep fried (Tempura??!!) but dripping with oil. For mains the Seafood Chowder contained lots of seafood but the soup was watery and like "cup of soup". To make things worse my son ordered from the kids menu "chicken bites" what he appeared to get was precooked chicken from the Cajun chicken dish, dipped in batter and re-cooked - it was dry, overcooked and obviously highly spiced, he went home hungry as it was not pleasant. To cap off the evening one of the group ordered a "special coffee" with Tia Maria. After a 10 minute wait we were advised that there was no Tia Maria!! Some of the meals were good, the Crayfish/prawn/gurnard Fettuccine &amp; crispy duck (both from the specials board) - but not enough to make us want to go back!!

We had dinner at Bill Fish . An outside table on a beautiful summers evening . The location is great on the edge of marina. The service was very good . I had Cajun fish (Hapuka) which I had enjoyed on a previous visit and again it was excellent . My wife had the "Sizzling Prawns " These were rubbery and very bland tasting - a real dissapointment . The blackberry and marscopone torte was good and the coffee excellent . We will return as it is a great spot but will stick to ordering fish as a main course
Vicki Niethe
I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the owner in the past. He is rude and does like to be told that he is wrong when charging me more for a takeout coffee. Fortunately there are other places around with far better service.
Julie Cleghorn
To all of you, we have supported this secret z pier location for three years and without doubt every single time the service, standard of food and owner commitment has been without question. We take great pride in bringing our visitors from outside Auckland and indeed beyond our shores to this wonderful venue. The standards, food ,and service make us proud to be able to offer this experience to our friends and family as an unrecognised Auckland icon. Having travelled the world many times it is hard to complete the trident. This being food, service and location. Thank-you Billfish, for helping us to fulfil our lifestyle John and Julie

Impromptu visit as we just happened to be passing by yesterday on Fathers Day, we were there late in the afternoon so just had coffee and a selection of mixed dishes (Prawns, Squid Rings, Chips &amp; Garlic Bread) as a late lunch/early dinner to share between four of us. The king prawns were divine! Calamari was nice and light and the chips were crisp. Garlic bread was nice but couldn't eat alot of it. We found our coffees were really good too. Only downside could have been to have a jug of water on the table? As we were having constant refills.<br/>Great live entertainment too, we couldnt see her but she had a amazing voice.
Rachel Gray
Interesting reviews. I have been here a few times and found the food to be much improved recently with quite decent coffee and a fantastic location. The service we have had from the female staff members has been good, but I am presuming that it was the owner/manager with whom we had an argument (large man wearing a loud shirt). Absolutely no idea on how to serve customers and reading the reviews is still arrogant enough to think he is doing alright. He is obviously making enough money to keep going, but I certainly won't be returning (and I can see he won't care). Restaurants/cafes will never improve if we continue to put up with poor service - we all deserve better than that.
Greg
We hosted a birthday party for 60 people. We cannot thank the staff enough for an evening that exceeded our expectations. The food was superb. Our drinks lady was very attentive, and the feedback from our guests, on our choice of location, was positive. I am sure many of our guests will be going back to Billfish, on their own account. <br/>Thank you.
Margaret Smith
Have been to this restaurant several times before and enjoyed the beautiful setting. <br/>However, was booked in with a large group on Wednesday 2nd May for Farewell celebration.<br/>Upon arrival squashed/queued for drinks at small bar. Tables not set, no water, glasses etc. <br/>No service upstairs - had to carry our meals etc up ourselves.<br/>$32 buffet style meal included - bread rolls, 1 cheap green salad, boiled potatoes, kumara salad, bloody rare beef (no choice of rare, medium or well-done!) chicken (some of which was under-done) and deep fried fish? ( the later helpings not drained properly and dripping with fat) and 3 condiments/dressings. Followed by cold yukky coffee/tea and store-bought biscuits!!! Very disappointing.
Barrie Wickins
Went there last night for a special function for 60 people. The meal was a buffet. Our group had the whole of the inside. Personally I found the food seriously wanting. The beef was very rare and in my opinion the chicken drumsticks were not cooked. The salad consisted of just lettuce leaves-nothing else in the bowl. The whole spread lacked imagination and variety. I asked to speak to the chef/owner who told me he had been doing his job for 20 years and no one had ever complained about his rare beef as this is what he normally served for such events. He said that there was some med-well done beef on a plate but 2 of us could not find any. Even more concerning that there was no effort to check the chicken drum sticks left uneaten on my plate. The owner's statement that he had checked the chicken drum sticks when it was cooking with a probe did not satisfy me. Hang on a minute 60 guests, say 2 drum sticks each, that's 120 probes?? What ever happened to the visual check? The meal seemed to be just the one main course however there was coffee and tea made available later. There was some Tim Tams and some other of what appeared to be store bought cookies. I would have expected a number of at the very least simple deserts that were in keeping with the name and reputation of this establishment? All in all I found the meal wanting. I am disappointed that the owner/chef did not bother to check the chicken drum sticks for himself as a result of my claim that his chicken drum sticks were not cooked. Alas no effort was made to check the uneaten chicken on my plate. This suggests to me that the owner could not care less! To the owners credit he did cook us some med to well beef and some chicken pieces. We will vote with our wallets on this one. Sorry we will not be back and the rule of 25 will apply. We will tell 25 of our friends of our experience.<br/>Thanks Scott for your response.<br/>I understand that the buffet was chosen by the organisers, however that does not excuse the quality of the food that your establishment presented. I would have expected more variety and yes I would have expected some simple deserts for my $32.00 a head (notwithstanding the cash bar)! You claim in your posted response that you had eaten several chicken drumsticks yourself? but I think your own E-Mail in your posted response speaks volumes. Quote, <br/>"Hi Barrie, Sorry about last night. I think you may be misinformed about the food you were offered last night<br/>Sorry again if it was not what you expected (and for not taking your chicken away to check)". Signed Scott, Unquote.<br/>Check out Pandora Bakery Scott for commercial quantities ready made slices, ideal for a simple desert bar.<br/>Sorry we will not be back

We had a table of six. Beautiful night. Over priced for Fish and chips. Service very average. During the dinner, I gave $100 to the owner? guy wearing bad taste shirt. This was towards our bill. At the time of paying our near $500 bill. They had neglected to minus the $100. When I mentioned the problem. <br/>He offered no concern or reason. As my friends had not known I had paid the $100. Mr bad taste of shirts was billing them without the minus ed $'s - cash. This added a bad taste to a great dinner.

We went for a lazy Sunday breakfast. Boy, what a painful experience!! <br/>Not only did we experience poor wait service (had to ask to have our coffee order and then had to repeat our food order 3 times and it still came out wrong) but were served very watery coffee (especially if you consider the standard of good coffee around Auckland) as well as being verbally hassled when it came to pay. <br/>We wanted to split the bill, were told 'that 90% of cafes in NZ don't allow split bills'. We explained that 3 of us had breakfast while one had coffee only so it would be only fair. Not only did the owner raise his voice about the hassle and difficulty of doing it but he tried overcharging us by $11. <br/>Its a shame as the food was good but the combination of service, coffee and being told off when paying will mean we wont come back or recommend it.
Barb Burgess
Mother's Day brunch. Married children hadn't been b4 so I suggested we go. Fabulous. Had complimentary glass of bubbly and a choc to celebrate Mum's day. Once again had the Kumera mash patties which are so delicious. D-in-law's fish cakes also really tasty and the baked bean breakfast a real wow with my husband. Hope this place stays a secret location. Service really friendly...feels as if you are part of a family.
Jo Neill
an awesome location shame about the service. My partner and I went for brunch about a month ago. Waited over an hour for our meals and in the end gave up waiting. Coffees came twice, didn't seem to be very well organized. Is a real pity as is in a perfect spot but to be honest we won't be back and certainly wouldn't recommend it
Patricia
Visited the Bill Fish Cafe this weekend after a year...<br/>Not sure what happened it lost it's former 'rough' charme and the food is totally over priced: $20 for ordinary fish and chips is just ridiculous....
Kate Bower
Visited this cafe recently because it was reviewed well here and was close to my house. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The setting is certainly beautiful and it was lovely to sit on the waterfront on a warm Saturday afternoon, but the service and food left a lot to be desired. The food was fresh and moderate quality but $20 for fish and chips is a bit steep. The waitress couldn't tell us anything about the menu, she had to check the fish of the day. And the wine list was a bit slim on choice. But the worst thing about it was the music - absolutely appalling bad bossanova covers of old 70s song. We just had to laugh when 'leap up and down wave your knickers in the air' came on. If the owner insists on having such bad taste in music perhaps they could keep it down!! Overall, great location, decent food, just bring your earplugs.

Very large and tasty portions of Fish and Chips. Great setting on waterfront. A bit hard to find. Salty nautical characters all around.

Apparently the best fish and chips in Auckland...well, it is pretty good. and the other dishes are great too - very fresh fish which changes depending on what's at the market that day (good sign) and the squid salad is surprisingly good too. Oysters the sixe of your hand last time we went and a pretty good wine list. grreat in the summer and winter as they have blankets when it gets cold if you're sitting out on the terrace. Twinkling lights against the boats in the harbour are a wonderful view on a summer's evening.
