Review Tiffin Indian Cuisine - Auckland

Nathan
We have tried a lot of Indian eateries in Auckland and this one has become one of our new favourites. The chicken korma and butter chicken were both very tasty. The level of service was great. Highly recommended

There is no 3.5 stars so giving 4. Ordered and picked up for delivery - Chicken Tikka Masala(Super Hot), Tandoori Chicken and Garlic Naan. I would have given 5 stars but hugely disappointed with Garlic naan and tandoori chicken. Common guys you are better than this. All Naans were very thick and flat and more like uncooked thick paratha with garlic butter on top. I think the dough was not set before cooking or it wasn’t cooked properly. Next Tandoori Chicken- It looked and delicious but did not have that yummy taste was missing from the Tandoori chicken. Chicken Tikka Masala- this dish was bang in as I requested it to be super hot and it met all expectations in terms of spicyness, salt and other spices were well balanced. 5/5 for Chicken tikka masala. Will I order again? I would definitely order again as I know they do read all reviews and work on it and moreover this is one of the best restaurants in Auckland. I think it was just about wrong time or rush hours they had that day. But hey... that’s how popular restaurants need to run fulfilling expectations of customers even when they are super busy as your customers choose your restaurant over others.

Best Indian food around here! Well presented as well as fresh ingredients Highly recommended Keep up your good work guys 👍

Delicious catch up with a friend Dharmesh. We chatted about scandals while enjoying hot vindaloo curries on this cold stormy night in Auckland. Kulfi was divine...sadly no gulab jaman.

Best Indian in Auckland? Very fresh flavours and generous serves of meat in the curries.

Had a great experience here. Elegant decor complimented with excellent service and good variety of dishes to choose from. BYOB and licensed. Not easy to get a part but worth the effort!

They offer most of main at $14.95 (except seafood and couple of chicken / beef dishes) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We dined in and ordered chicken masala & butter chicken (both come with rice), and Naan bread, all were very tasty. If you ask for additional rice there will be extra charge. Although the restaurant was very quiet (2 other tables only occupied), many takeaway customers come and go while we are having dinner, so the restaurant is relatively busy. However the service was pleasant, and you don't feel waiting for long to getting meal. There are 2 bathroom (1 for female, another one for male), was fairly clean. No changing place for nappy (if you have kid) unfortunately. However, I feel the restaurant is kids friendly - I went there with my husband and 2 months old child who cried a bit but the staff was very helpful.

Lovely people, great food. Love the goat curry, and the malvani chicken is great too.

They managed to fit six of us in on a busy Saturday evening. Service and presentation impeccable and food delicious.

Best Indian takeaway I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend

Regularly visit this place. Best curries I’ve had in Auckland. Really friendly staff. And prime location for some great craft beer bars.

Such delicious food! Also the paintings on the wall give it a nice bit of exotic ambience and character. Staff are very friendly too, they offered my wife non-chilled water which was very kind. It's a family business and nice to see the kids getting involved. We always have a lovely time there.

Came here with my flatties ages ago when we were all craving an Indian feast. Did not disappoint. Nothing was a fail, and we left totally stuffed. But still took samosas home in our pockets, cos they are 🔥 We still talk about it and recommend it to all the locals.

Busy Saturday night so food took a while. Lots of Ubereat pickups. Curry was tasty, maybe the portion size could have been bigger. Naan served warm, not hot from the oven. Would go back, maybe not on a Saturday night though. Recommend if you are in the area.

We loved the friendly professional staff. The Goat curry i had was some of the best i had. BTW... I have eaten Goat Curry from India,Pakistan, Libia, Jamaica. Thank you, we will be back.....an Indian Cuisine Gem.

Came through for dinner and had a great time! Service was brilliant and the goat curry hit the right spot!

Best Indian food around. But don’t get take aways. They have not caught up with the urgent need to move to recyclable containers as most other restaurants have. So eat in only and enjoy the great food.

Beautiful food, local family feel, this place is perfect. Best Indian food in Auckland. There is nothing on the menu that I don’t LOVE ❤️

Was waiting to try this one, but fell way below the expectations. Quantity was too little. Lack of favours. Biryani was more like tikka pulao had shredded chicken. No Raita. Pls change the name do not kill biryani. Starters were ok.Cocktails consist of flavors only no natural. Mocktails were very sweet. Dal tadka was ok. Liked the chilli and cheese garlic naan only. Sadly not really the best place for Indian taste buds.

Just my personal opinion, Tiffin is the second best Indian food I've ever had, and I've had a lot of Indian.

If you like your garlic naan garlicky ask for it and they'll definitely deliver. Food is always delicious and fresh. Dining in is a cosy experience and when you order takeaway they do this brilliant thing with a layer of glad wrap between lid and container which helps me avoid getting the food all over myself.

I’ve been here a couple of times. I can’t fault their food at all it’s DELICIOUS! Some of the best curries I’ve had. However the service I received on one of my visits was fairly bad, I walked in and waited at the counter and the lady ignored me and served the men behind me instead so had to wait while she served them and then she decided to greet more people that walked in after me... I thought that was a bit odd. But other than that one experience it’s a great place for food

Ordered a Lunch Meal for 15 NZD. Really good food. The Ambiance is amazing and the meal comes in a great quantity. Tried Tandoori Chicken as well that was too good. as well. Can always go back to this place.

We've been coming here for years and never been disappointed! If you love a soulful butter chicken and buttery naan this is hands down the best I've come across in Auckland. Keep doing what you're doing tiffin!

Great Indian dishes in lovely serving dishes. A wonderful relaxed family run restaurant.

The family/staff are delightful, helpful and attentive. Auckland's best Indian restaurant.

The Panipuri and Mansoor kebab are great ways to start.

Don't go past the Saag ghosht for one of your mains.
Ria Amin
The food was good, the main reason we wanted to try this restaurant was because of it's unique menu, but most of the things we wanted to order wasn't available. Also the food portion is not worth the price, staff was nice but a bit too attentive, as we were approached so many times to start ordering something for mains when we weren't ready.
Orla Slater
I have been eating curry for a long time and Tiffin has the best curry in Auckland by a mile. So so delicious. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal out. Plus, it’s BYO!

I wish I had ANYTHING positive to write about my experience today. The worst Garlic Nan I have ever had, the saddest excuse in the name of raita (why the hell was it sweet!?), tasteless chooza chicken (no salt or seasoning just orange colored bbq). At least the tandoori chicken had proper seasoning. I asked for extra hot and both items were bland. The worst part is still not over. I ordered the paratha. My mistake. Im from Pakistan and paratha is a deep fried soft roti that enhances the flavor of bbq but this was the saddest form of home made roti (flat bread). And at $4.50 each it was such a horrific experience! Please replace the name of this to homemade roti or dont serve this in the name of Paratha for Gods sake! You can fry and sell the Frozen parathas instead for $1 or $2 at least the customers wont feel ripped off and those parathas will still taste better than what you are serving! Thanks for spoiling my weekend! Will never ever return!

Got a takeaway lunch special of 1/2 butter chicken mains/rice/naan, and a beef masala.

Flavours were fine.
Butter chicken was rich.
Beef masala was ok, mild in flavour.

Naan was round and small.
Portion size and meat content were on the small side compared to many other indian joints.

Overall a pretty average food experience.
Service was limited to ordering takeaway, nothing to say about that.

Would not eat from there again with so many other superior indian restaurants to choose from.
Dessertislife
Love love love tiffin!! It's my go to for takeaway Indian food, I've tried a few others around Auckland but the just don't compare to the quality that tiffin serve, loads of meat in the currys and great nann breads. Sunday fav!

Went here last night for the first time and it was outstanding. Starters of Pani Puri and Bhel Puri Chaat were absolutely beautiful and our curries were fresh and full of flavour. Garlic and coriander naan was gorgeous, full of garlic! Service was excellent. We really didnt know what the Bhel Puri Chaat was, and the waitress simply said ' try it, you will love it'.. and we did. Overall absolute favourite Indian now, and will return without question. BYO wine at $3.50 a head , and Tuesdays are $14.50 mains (with some exceptions). Try it, you wont be disappointed.

If you're in to butter chicken and garlic naan, this is the place for you.

I'd go as far to say that this is the best butter chicken in Auckland. Great portion sizes and huge naans, lots of garlic on them.

I come here often with my flatmate who is vegetarian, and the paneer version of the butter chicken (aptly named the butter paneer) was amazing too. A nice change, considering a lot of Indian restaurants don't have a vegetarian alternative for a butter chicken.

And if you like entrees, the onion bhaji is delicious too!

Great food & very reasonable prices
Coz I Can
Glad they cater towards Vegan options. Yummy Curries guaranteed to fill you up. We were so hungry when we went there and they definetly catered towards our large apetites. Lovely place to chill also and they even bagged up our left overs.

Ordered Medium Lamb Nawabi & Garlic Naan takeaway from here. I usually have goat curry or the safe butter chicken option but I am glad I tried this. May have found myself a new favourite Indian dish. Would recommend, although the price is quite expensive it was well worth the treat. Would order again from here.

We were trying to get reservation the other day, we haven't go though over the phone so thought we might get afer we go there
Once we reached there asked at counter for 5 people
We have been told that we will have to come other day as tables were fully booked
Next time we have tried to get resevation again but got bullshit instead ( manager was saying last we booked the table at 9:30 pm and didn't come after how can people go there when they explicitly told that they were fully booked for that night)
Poor communication skill as well

Invited out by friends to celebrate blessed news, our dining experience here was delightful.

Pretty quiet night with only 3 other tables full, we were quickly seated and had our orders promptly taken. We ordered a Tika Masala, Mango Chicken and Korma with a Naan and Paneer Kula. The service was fantastic; we asked for hot water and they duly obliged. Throughout our meal the waitress would get us hot water too.

Our meals came out in around 5 minutes which surprised us and the food was flavoursome.

They have Tuesday night specials at $14.90 so a great spot while minding your wallet.

Showstopper : The curries were rich and tasty.

Overall Grade: B+

Pros
Good mains and entrees
Ambience
Fine dining
Polite and friendly staff

Cons
Delay in serving our food

Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who'd like to taste good Indian food and don't mind waiting a bit :)
Great Food and fast service...authentic Indian food..Chicken Madras and Lamb Gosht is both my fave dishes..Thank you for the beautiful food and reminder of how authentic Indian food tastes like...
Arpita Mandal
We heard quite a lot about the restaurant but it was an utter dissapointment.

The only factor I loved about the restaurant that the staff was welcoming and polite. However the service is super slow, they take a long time address the customers and take orders etc.

We ordered a vegetarian entree that was fairly good. The mains we ordered was a great dissapointment (Paneer makhanwala and Saag Mushroom). Couldn't taste anything to be honest.

And the major downside was the breads... Naan was ok but Parantha was stiff and raw perhaps an old dough was used or was over cooked.

Not recommended to any diners who fancy India. The restaurant requires a lot of work to be at par with few others.

Onion Bhaji, Pani Puri, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Masala, Rice, glass of Sav, bottle of Tiger,
$57.
Great setting and atmosphere, awesome service.
The food was fantastic, great flavours and just the right amount of heat,
Will be back
Simon Grigg
I agree with many other reviewers, this place is great. You could be in Serangoon Rd in Singapore. Great flavours, fresh spices, loads of heat in the food and just delicious.
Milly Gibbison
hands down best indian I have EVER had. Delicious sauce, chicken was tender, naans are fluffy and garlicy. Everything I've tried here has been amazing and also I was quite pleased with the medium spicy sauce, normally if I order medium it barely has any kick to it, this was just right. Only wish you guys had an eftpos machine for delivery service
Sarah M
Great little Indian restaurant. Had a Lamb Rogan Josh and my husband had a Lamb Nawabi. Really well priced and good quality - we love curry and this certainly made the cut. The atmosphere is great and it's small enough to create quite an intimate atmosphere. It's also great for take out and the mid-week deals are really good. Staff all very accommodating and service was pretty quick! Loved the naan bread. Will be our regular curry house from now on.
Jenny Beirne
There was a mix up with our order the first night we ordered with them. Once they realise this, the restaurant staff were amazing. Txt me straight away and delivered the correct order the following night which was much appreciated. The food was amazing. So happy. Very tasty. Would definitely recommend this place and it's serivce. Great staff!! :)

Easy parking, good value, delicious curry, delicious naan, it'll be my new regular Indian :) highly recommend. Good service, nothing much else to say really :)

What to write about this outlet..i was there with my friends and we had ordered paneer vindaloo and lamb. After the order we waited for approx 40mins to have that on the table. But when everything came it was a huge disappointment.Quantity was too less, it wasn't even adequate for a single person and it was too much spicy even though we ordered for medium. It was first n last time to be in that restaurant.Too much expensive, extremely less quantity n amazing delayed service..
Maia Churichkova
A lot of the time Indian curries, in my opinion at least, tends to contain pieces of extremely dry meat in a very creamy sauce that I find far too filling. I stopped by Tiffin to get takeaways one night after work - the butter chicken was superb, and the garlic naan was lovely. Definitely no dry, chewy meat here - it was lovely and tender and there was a lot of it. They cleverly also put a bit of cling film over the curry before putting the lid on - meaning no pesky spills in the plastic bag on the way home. Bit more pricey than your average Indian place, and I'm not used to spending a lot on takeaways. Would return but probably eat in next time as it was rather nice inside.
Food Food Foodie Food
Possibly one of the best Indian joints in Auckland. Service is quick and friendly and the food is authentic with plenty of variety. Added bonus, when you dine in they give you complimentary papadums.
Shannon T
I ummed and ahhed about this but ultimately I couldn't fault this restaurant for anything. The food was superb, the waiter was attentive and it had a nice, cozy, relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely go back here, especially for the lunch deal - $11.90 for a naan, rice and curry can't go wrong with that!
Annie Jean
So I have nothing to complain about.... The only thing I regret is not taking a picture of my food. Service was lovely, the food was delicious and it was $11.90 (each). We had vegetarian options of lentils and chickpeas with Nan bread, very tasty indeed!!! Plenty of parking around the back. Nice and cosy for a midday break. I'll be back for sure :)

Lived nearby and this was my go-to mid week dinner, sometimes twice a week. Cheap Mon-Wed curries and huge serving sizes when getting takeaway. Flavor and heat could be better but dine in and it's better quality.
Manda Little
Been coming to this amazing place for over a year now & the food is always consistently good! Prefer going for takeaway as the dining experience could be revamped so it's more private/atmosphere could be better for larger group settings etc...
Neil Cording
Great environment that is warm, friendly and smells amazing from the other side of the road! The tandoori prawns were a lovely, light starter before moving onto the mains which consisted of goat curry, chicken korma, chicken saag and a lamb bhona. All curries had great flavour nicely accompanied with cheesy and garlic naan.
The staff were very courteous and attentive.
Highly recommend Tiffin.
Stephen Galt
Amazing Indian. Definately Aucklands best indian restaurant.. curries dont contain cream which is excellent and are packed with flavour!!! Try the chicken saag... Excellent friendly staff.. Great naan!!!
Varsha Paul
I would say this is the best Indian takeaways in Auckland. Delicious food, with as much chilli as you want! Dhal makhani, naan, chicken tikka masala, and lamb dishes are outstanding
Nat Rose
I swear Tiffin is the best Indian cuisine in New Zealand!!!!!

If you are from the UK you must go to this restaurant, you will not be disappointed, it's the closest you will get to a decent curry in Auckland hahaha!!

We have been going to Tiffin for the past few months and have never been disappointed with our meals. It is now our local eatery :)

Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent service :)

This place is super close to my house so I go to dinner there on date nights, get take aways, sometimes get lunch with their lunch special... always amazing amazing butter chicken and my boyfriend (who branches out more than me) always enjoys his meals. We also always get one of the prawn entrees and its quite expensive but I'm obsessed with prawns and its yum! We always have a good time. You get a lot of food for the price. Only comment is that its obviously family run and so they aren't proper waiters and that can be really obvious sometimes - if they acted more confident it would be less obvious. But definitely recommend. Probably on par with Oh Calcutta in Parnell which is amazing too.

We have never eaten at another Indian restaurant since we discovered Tiffin, and we try and get there at least once a week. Best Indian food in Auckland. We have never been disappointed and the standard is consistently excellent. The chicken korma and butter chicken are divine. A wide range of vegetarian dishes. Friendly and efficient service. No loud music. Very reasonable prices for the quality of food. Takeaways also excellent. A real gem.
Cordylox Lockett
Reliably good, tasty Indian food. Lovely service. Great vegetarian options. Reasonably priced. The decor isn't anything special but you don't go there for that!
Rosalie Bay
We eat at Tiffin often because the food is reliably tasty and wholesome, the service kind and efficient. I've never had a bad dish here, and the lamb curry with fenugreek is wonderful. Last time we were there we had the Kashmiri rice side dish which was beautiful.

Tiffin has a wide range of vegetarian dishes and everything is fresh and individual. The prices are reasonable.

The food here was absolutely divine! I visited last week with my partner for dinner after a long drive up from wellington. The service was impressive and staff were friendly. We were happy to see an extensive range of dishes to choose from, especially vegetarian. We ordered pani puri for the entree, chicken tikka masala and palak paneer for mains with garlic and peshwari naan. The food was amazing, full of flavour and arrived timely! We were very full after this meal as the dishes were quite heavy. We packed what was left which the waitress did happily! I enjoyed the pani puri in particular as the flavours were very similar to what I experienced in India and I am craving more now! We definitely will be coming back and recommend this place to any Indian food lovers!
Amanda Clarke
absolutely amazing! definitely one of the best indian restaurants around.

My parents and I go here on a Friday night approx once every two months. The service is fantastic and the food is amazing.

This is the best chicken Korma in Auckland (in fact i'd be tempted to say NZ).

Make sure you book if you want to go here as they can get busy on a Friday night.
Zuber Mohammed
My assistant manager has been telling me about Tiffin for some time now, so after a bad experience at my ex-fav Indian restaurant last month, i decided to finally take his suggestion and give Tiffin a fair go.

I went with my wife, my brother in law and his wife.

Each and everyone of us LOVED the food and also LOVED the service. The food came out pretty quickly and it was really delicious. The service was really friendly, unlike other Indian restaurants where we've only been asked at the end of the meal 'how was your meal' we were asked how everything was about 3 times during our meal. The service was absolutly primo. Cannot fault them on their service at ALL!

And also the young girl wouldn't allow our glasses become empty... She hurried over to our table and refilled our glasses every time we had nearly run dry! (Mind you, we were the only 4 people eating there last night. I'd like to go back on a busier day to see how they go. Although i am sure they'll do fine!)

The pani puri was really nice, so was the chicken tikka masala, fish tikka and the mango chicken, the naan, the rice, the pickles and the papadom! I cannot fail Tiffin on anything!

Oh there is one thing that they should consider changing...
For an Indian restaurant owned by non-muslims they serve HALAL Chicken & lamb, which i truly appreciate. They also serve beef, except that is non-halal. I would like it very much if they served halal beef some day.

But the non-halal beef issue isn't going to stop us from going back. There are alot of items on their menu to choose from.

Now just for the record, all 4 of us are Indians. 2 of us (my wife and i) have eaten at many Indian restaurants and Tiffin is by far the best in NZ that we've been to.

If you have eaten at the likes of Taj Oberoi @ Broadbeach (which is fairly expensive), the food quality @ Tiffin is the same except it is cheaper.

Keep up the great work Tiffin. You WILL see us again.

Once again, great service and even better food.

* Went there again on V-Day (14th Feb) with my wife and this time it was a Full House. Every table was packed, yet we still managed to get our food in aprox 40 min's (entree's came out in 20ish minutes. With a full house, that was pretty good in my books).

Unlike a lot of Restaurant who cannot cope well under pressure, Tiffin can handle the pressure and as well as that they still have time to walk up to the customers table and make conversation with the customer.

And THANK YOU a lot for the complimentary goat curry! My wife and i don't like goat meat but we thought it would be rude to decline, so we tried it out. And to our surprise it was REALLY GOOD. We'll be ordering a goat dish next time :)

Thank you to the Staff @ Tiffin for making last night a top night.
Gheist
Nothing extraordinary about the food and the service. Pretty standard and definitely can get better value for money elsewhere. Ordered mansoori kebab (lamb cutlet marinated and cooked in tandoor) which was not fully cooked. The raw tandoori spice could be tasted.

Food gave me the runs. Would never recommend or go there again.
Wanderlust
I like the atmosphere here.
The food is OK, portions are good.
They have a great vegetarian menu.
Staff were OK.
We asked for hot, but there was hardly any spice.
I don't like writing negative reviews. But there is nothing special at this restaurant, I would not pay for food here because there are so many better places in Auckland.

If people think this place is great, they are seriously missing out on excellent Indian food.
Fiona Quinn
Excellent food - this is where we go regularly and the food is consistently great. Authentic butter chicken is so hard to find and there are delicious options for vegetarians and vegans - the kofta is particularly good light and delicately spiced and the chana masala is also yummy. Even the rice is good with cardamon for extra flavour. Good value and friendly attentive staff.
Ramona Dillon
Tiffin was a real find! Fresh, clean flavours, lamb and chicken, just right! The family business is very clean, the family themselves are caring and genuine, really a pleasure being a guest! So thank you Tiffin family, we will be back!
Helen Florence
This place is amazing. Have been there 3 times now and can't get enough. Food exquisite and reasonably priced, service exemplary and lovely ambiance. Surpasses any Indian restaurant I have been to. The mango chicken is delectable! The spices taste fresh and all the dishes taste different (at some Indian places they seem to taste the same to me!)
David
Pristine and cosy. Eaten here several times and have enjoyed every meal. The flavours are authentic and very tasty. The staff are attentive and at times a bit slow at executing their meals. It's a must to eat here you will not be disappointed.

The entrees are yummy. Sometimes, I order a few entrees with beer before going to a movie. Or, after shopping at St Lukes good to sit down and do the works - entrée, main and desert. It's always a reward to go there on a Friday night after a bad week.
Steph Johnson
Tiffin is the best Indian restaurant we have ever come across. I have dined there numerous times and took a group of 16 people there for my birthday.

The staff at Tiffin are great, ensuring everyone is looked after, no matter what group size.

I am highly allergic to nuts and when I explained this to the staff they ensured there was no cross contamination with nuts.

My partner has recently travelled to India and believes the meat dishes are as good as any you will find in India.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and I am fussy when it comes to Indian!

We will be regulars at this restaurant for sure!
Soyoung Bae
We went to Tiffin Indian Cuisine last week and had a great meal.

The service was really nice and friendly, the food was stunning!!!

I would love to go back to this restaurant and Mango chicken was the best :)

If you love Indian food, you should try this restaurant !!! Highly recommend :)
Sabrina Weber
We have eaten here 3 times now in about 4 weeks and think its the best Indian Restaurant in Auckland we have experienced in the last 5 years. Tiffin Indian Cuisine consistently provides warm, attentive and friendly service as well as stunning food. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Meghann Humphries
We had a lovely meal here. The were open on a Monday night, unlike many other restaurants near by.
The service was really friendly & our waitress made sure all of us were happy & well taken care of.
The food was excellent with a good selection of dishes, not too many as with some restaurants, for vegetarians & meat eaters.
The menu was also easy to follow.
Tiffin currently has a BYO wine only license.
I would certainly recommend this restaurant & will definitely be going there again myself.
Charlie M.
I have ordered their menu items a few times from Tiffin. Great staff and awesome Indian menu items definitely equal money worth spending. I highly recommend their naans, chicken tikka masala and their mango chicken dish. For those who can't tolerate spiciness, you can request for mild curries or if you are stuck in between mild and medium, you can request a mild-medium curry dish of your choice. The only down side with Tiffin is that I wish their curry portions are much bigger. Overall, Tiffin is a great place to dine in or just order takeaway.
Jason Paul
Excellent Indian food. Fresh, tasty. They will adjust the heat to your liking.
Even better, they deliver! Dhal makani, chicken tikka masala are two favourites. Rice is always cooked to perfection and fragrant.
