Review Catroux - Auckland

Benedict Uy
We grabbed a cake here for a birthday. It was the coffe and pecan praline and it did taste nice. You could taste the coffee, chocolate and the pecan. it did look different to what was on the site but that could have been due to the writing on the cake.

Came to westmere off my normal track and had lunch here. At Catroux. Very enjoyable sandwiches and shared a lemon pistachio treat. I found the coffee excellent which with all press I am not normally so effusive. Well worth the trip. Staff pleasant and place clean. Cost $$

*Updated 10/9/23: Perfection! 👌🏻 *Updated 3/10/22: Found it hard to enjoy a cafe that's full of smoke, and left with my hair and clothes stinking of burnt food. Clearly major ventilation issues. Secondly soggy toast from wet eggs is sacrilege, which took 10 mins to get new toast. Wake up Chef. Cosy cafe, good tasty food and nice coffee. Well priced and relaxed.
Abram Bailey
Good food generally. Great sandwiches and other baked items. The beef pie is mince though and not very unique in flavor, so that isn't something I'd order again. The coffees are always perfect.
Moses Yin
Nice coffee~ The shape of the cake is beautiful.

My go-to place for birthday cake! Everybody loves it.
M. Lang
We had a delicious Fitness bowl. Excellent, tasty, good quality products. Cost and value are worth what you get. Well located in Westmere, parking around.
Alma
The best cakes in town. We ordered carrot cake and it was amazing. Soft, fluffy with just right amount of icing. Had carrot cakes in top restaurants in Auckland but this one beats all of them. Highly recommend.

Make this your regular Sunday brunch spot. Everything was exceptional! In particular the French toast, perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Great place to treat yourself and they have healthy options if you're sticking to New year's resolutions.

We choose to get our wedding cake from Catroux due to their incredible flavours. We had salted caramel and rhubard for the bottom tier and lemon and raspberry for the top tier. We left the decorating up to them and they did great, so many compliments about the tastiness of the cake.

First time at Catroux in a few years. Friendly service, great coffee, delicious menu & good cabinet food selection. Loved the Goodness Muesli - figs & raspberries a pleasant addition to what was in description.
Stephen Marshall
Gorgeous food, well presented, excellent service. I had the mushrooms on toast, (mouth-wateringly excellent) with a couple of perfect poached eggs, and a slice of their own seedy bake, )also insanely tasty). Love this place.

I've had good and not-so-good experiences here. But the last visit was lovely - not too busy for a Friday, delicious salads and yummy menu. Will be going back for the haloumi scrambled eggs with chimichurri and chilli salt - sounds delish! Great vegetarian options too.
Jack McPherson
Delicious food, coffee and cakes. Great vibe, friendly staff as well as amazing party catering. The full shabang!

Wonderful 'fitness bowl'. Just amazingly healthy and sooooo delicious! Wow that was good.
Martin Rattray
Nice small cafe, great service. Good selection of nice cabinet food, good coffee. Sweet French Toast pictured below...

BEST SPOT IN WESTMERE! Coffee and food are on point. If you want something light and fresh, they have it or if you are a bit dusty and want a big breakfast, they got you too. Definitely recommend!

Whilst visiting Auckland earlier this year we were recommended to eat here by some good friends. OMG everything about this little place was perfect. It’s a little gem of a place with excellent food and lovely welcoming staff. In fact we visited several times whilst in town as nowhere else quite lived up to the standards we encountered here. The green eggs and beef cheek quesadilla were standouts for me and flat whites to die for! If you’ve got room the Lamington is also pretty scrummy. Thanks guys we will be back

I had breakfast with my uncle, dad and brother. The service was great and food was delish. I had the Lamb Sausage dish from the brunch menu and their Lemon, Ginger and Honey tea. I'd recommend this dish and drink as well as their Choc Afghan. Yummo
Carolyn Carter
I have ordered a few cakes in the last week for my office, and the two we received today were to die for! Everyone is raving and asking where I got them! Thanks for amazing, beautiful and delicious cakes! Especially the gluten free chocolate cake. WOW! :)

This is the second time I’ve had catering from Catroux and I can’t recommend it enough. Delicious, and beautifully presented.

Took my daughter for breakfast for her birthday. The kids menu alone is fabulous; we chose the free range ham with scrambled eggs on toast. It was the perfect size for setting a kid up for the day. Healthy and delicious. I had muesli which was quite simply, heaven on a plate. Coconut yogurt (beautifully tart to accompany the rhubarb) and almond milk. And the coffee was sensational. Can't wait to go back.

OMG Catroux catered for our party on Saturday night and couldn’t have been more perfect. Service was great from start to finish. Everyone raved about the food which was magnificent. The staff team couldn’t have been better- friendly , efficient and all round awesome chicks! Thank you so much!
Craig Munro
Awesome place , great food 🖒recommend to all 🖒🖒

Having never been to the Cafe before it was recommended by another well known bakery. I was in urgent need of a cake for my daughters birthday. The exceptional friendly service and 'can do' attitude was unbelievable. The cake was delicious but what will keep me going back is a level of service that I found unprecedented. Thank you.
Kim Gee
Great food and awesome coffee .Highly recommend a visit to Catroux

Fantastic wedding catering yesterday. Superb food delivered right on time and served by totally professional staff an all around great experience making our special day very memorable
Aasyah Soloman
Was something very different .. I ate Kumara Rosti GF Poached eggs, saffron aioli, baba ganoush, prosciutto, rocket. It was all vegetarian.. ... Also their hot chocolate was tasty... I would defiantly go back again.

I got an Orange and passionfruit cake for my Mums 60th today. It was not only beautiful, it was also delicious. Everyone was asking where I got it from. The online ordering system was so easy to use. I phoned the cafe twice, they answer quickly and were very efficient in answering my queries. Nothing seemed to difficult for the team, they were friendly and the cafe was buzzing, a beautiful atmosphere. Thanks so much with your help in spoiling my Mum!

Delicious healthy food, great service, wonderful coffee : a lovely lively new cafe ( for us ) we found it featured in the recently published NZ cafe cookbook ( a fine piece of publishing !) Loved the decor too so fresh And the striped t-shirts !
Charmaine Bailie
Good food, good coffee, nice people!
Melanie Park
Had the most amazing lemon curd cake for my Gran's 100th birthday. Thanks very much!!!
Florencia Orsi
Amazing in every aspect. Eighthirty coffee, the fitness bowl is to die for and lovely staff. Def one of my favourites

I am a Westmere local and visit Catroux regularly as well as ordering catered food every Christmas..I am always staggered at the customer service here, the front staff are never welcoming, friendly or smile, if you are older than 30 you are treated even more abominably. The owner  just shrugs you off with comments "like order earlier next time", and never any offer to accomodate clientele. As I say the only reason we visit is great food and coffee, the rest is service without a smile and a cafe floor which is so slippery it feels like walking on a greaseball, obviously not washed when busy! Up your game if you wish to keep customers and I am not the only person who feels this way.
Wayne
Absolutely delicious fresh everything on the dish complimented each other seamlessly !
The Poor Foodie
Our office had catering from Catroux the other day and their salad was absolutely amazing. The serving was huge (I usually eat a lot and even for me I found it big). Forgot which one our colleague ordered but I really liked their salad even though I’m not a fan of salad and raw vegetables.

Ordered online for passion fruit lemon cheese cake, this is definitely wonderful cake and made my long weekend sweet to the max.. good cake with good price and amazing taste

Came here as I’ve always wanted to try their food and first of all they were packed even on a weekday lunch! <br/>It is a small and cosy cafe but there was a line of people getting food to go as well as the cafe being full. <br/>I got the keto bowl to takeaway which has a huge piece of chicken, roasted egg plant, walnuts, fresh greens and I believe a ranch dressing. <br/>I absolutely loved this and this lasted me for two lunches! <br/>Definitely want to come back and sit down and order something off their menu:)
Ivelina Shivnan
Beautiful atmosphere matched with mouth watering, delicious food, fab coffee and friendly staff. Have been here numerous times now and am always so impressed. My personal faves are the Fitness bowl and the Green eggs & ham. Today I had the Salmon croissant and little did I know that just like everything else on their menu my croissant would have the Catroux twist and oh my goodness it was to die for. Don't even get me started on their cakes - I'm pretty sure I had the best cake of my life today! Just so good. I can't wait to visit again soon!
Hee Bang
Catroux is the best cafe for me, food were superb!!! 👌😍 from salads to sandwiches, friendly staff plus the place was cozy and has a nice ambience, you'll definitely want to come back again and again, highly recommended!!! Two thumbs up!!! 👍👍
Lizzie
Had a soy mocha - so good and the green eggs and ham which was delicious! A pretty big portion and it has truffle oil in it which is my favourite!! Quite a rich dish but so good. Can’t wait to come back and try more like the French toast and the mushrooms!

Delicious cakes can be ordered from Catroux. $65 for a medium size and $100 for the large. The cakes are quite tasty. Ordered the chocolate cake for a birthday party and was not disappointed. I have tried a few other cakes and the carrot and lemon cakes are also worth it’s price.
Mike
This place had the most amazing salads and healthy food and friendly warm service !....it’s my go to happy place @midday for my amazing green smoothie and espresso !!!!!...love it .......❤️
Alex Butenko
Generous brunch dishes and perfect coffee. Went here with a couple of friends of mine and had a really well made pulled-pork eggs Benedict. Coffee was also perfect! would come back again for more delicious brunch!
Toby Jug
Great coffee but be prepared for a long, long wait. They have an odd system whereby customers who order take outs get priority. All very frustrating and we noticed other customers equally unhappy.
Ekaterina Vincent
I found this cafe in one of the kids friendly lists. Their website says that they have a sandpit, blackboard and kids menu. <br/>We came on Sunday and it turned out that they no longer had the sandpit without updating their website. I can’t even imagine where it was, as there is very limited space in this cafe. The blackboard is in a small space near the toilets, where you wouldn’t leave your kids to play anyway, so it was completely useless. And last but not least - the so called kids menu - we ordered spaghetti for our little ones, and they brought us a bowl of warmed up canned spaghetti! <br/>Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone with kids.
Renee Pimentel
Had brunch here today for the first time and I was completely blown away by how GOOD everything was.  First off it was full but Katie our server was just so excellent - she got my number and said she would call me in 10 minutes when a table was ready - which she did.  She was so great with the children and even brought them out back to a chalkboard where they drew to their hearts' content until our food came.  Oh and the food... every bite was perfect - we had the pulled pork eggs benedict which was out of this world - so many flavours in one bite that all came together gloriously in the mouth.  Never had anything like it.  The kids had green eggs and ham + gruyere and truffle oil - wow. Coffee was awesome, juice was fresh. The rest of the staff were friendly, upbeat and the whole experience was just great.  I've never been compelled to write a review before but if you're thinking of checking this place out - do it.
Agness Stowers
Delicious brunch! I had the weekend benedict with pulled pork - divine. The raw cacao smoothie was delicious! Only criticism was the space was quite small for 5 of us - but otherwise great. Ample on street parking.
Molly Smith
Catroux is nestled within the suburb of Westmere, a 10 minute drive from Auckland city centre. It’s a little out of the way since most of Auckland’s trendiest cafes are clustered around the suburb of Ponsonby, but it’s worth the drive nonetheless.<br/>Inside the cafe, the Betty Catroux inspired minimalist theme is evident with simple sleek, white, elegant interiors interspersed with splashes of colour from the fresh flowers and vibrant salads.
Kim Cornelius
Visited on a busy Sunday morning for brunch. Had a 10-15 min wait for a table but the food was well worth it. I had the weekend Benedict which was huge and absolutely yummy. Coffee was good I would have had a second cup it any of the staff had asked but they were pretty busy and didn't come back. Catroux features on a list of mud friendly Auckland cafes. I personally don't think having a sandbox out the back by the bathroom and kitchen with no nearby tables is child friendly. If there were tables next to it where you could sit and have your brunch while they played this cafe with definitely get a 5
Lee
I love this place! I usually grab something from the cabinet on the weekends and it's all delicious and well priced. Their sandwiches are fresh and yum and their salads are the best I've had. Everytime I dine in I get the fitness bowl which is a very generous serving of kai. My partner has tried other things on the menu and it's all been amazing, really food coffee and juices too.
Tom Stoffer
One of the best cafes in town. I always get the pancakes. Its on of the worlds finest things that goes on a plate. <br/><br/>It’s actually more like a sponge cake then a pancake but its filled with blueberries and nice and sweet, the coolie *spelling* 🤷‍♂️ cuts thru the sweetness and the banana and ice cream add a nice creamy taste. It’s heaven. Doesnt look half bad either!
Amy Lee
This place does great cakes and their cabinet is always enticing. The coffee can be hit or miss depending barista. The menu is ok. Hower seating is limited.
Pegorino
Hey groovy diners, I'm feeling good and giving today, so here's a hot tip.<br/><br/>Catroux has constantly been blowing my marbles, and today, goddam it, it blew me raw. I had the Kumara Rosti, though instead of Prosciutto (which btw is divine) I had their miso/sesame grilled salmon on top. All I have to say is this: it was one of those dishes that makes you think, and really appreciate the fact that you are alive right now. <br/>A finely executed, nicely moist and textured kumara rosti, with primo poached eggs, whipped goats cheese, an indulgent slab of baba ganoush and arugula for days. <br/><br/>Yours truly,<br/>Pegorino
Miss Kiki
Came for brunch today and I really enjoyed my meal here! Had the mushrooms with cauliflower puree, honeyed hazelnuts, buffalo mozzarella, sourdough with chorizo and also had the kumara rosti with whipped goats cheese, baba ganoush, rocket n prosciutto.<br/>Both were incredible and stand out. My favourite was the kumara rosti, I just loved the flavours of that dish<br/>I would really also like to try the fitness bowl and the pumpkin pie pancakes.<br/>Reason why I didn't give a 5 is because the service is ok, it's almost like the waitress was annoyed that they are as busy as they were. The guy waiter was much friendlier and actually seemed like he wanted to be there so kudos to him. We did however go inside and were ignored for ages by the wait staff before we were acknowledged even the barista seemed annoyed that we kind of looked/approached him seeing he was the closest to us. Hopefully next time it improves otherwise I would have to make it my last visit to Catroux.<br/>

Have been going to Catroux regularly since it opened.  Food, coffee, and service are consistently very good and while it gets busy I've never waited more than 10mins for a table.  From the menu I would especially recommend the Mushrooms, the Fitness Bowl, and the Green Eggs and Ham.  Beautiful flavours, quality ingredients, expertly prepared.  The salads and sweet treats are also fabulous.
Emma Kostanich
Amazing coffee and sweet treats. The fitness bowl was delish too! Great place to get a takeaway coffee and wander around Westmere. Will be back.
SJ
Picked up a salad to go with meat from the Westmere butcher. Overpriced but was delicious. Nice little spot. Place is clean and staff are ok. Cabinet food looked really good so will return one day soon for those!
Erin Berryman
One of my favourite cafes. Always great service and heir food is AMAZING. Can never decide between menu or cabinet food. The service is great and ambience is nice. Definitely can get busy and might need to wait for a seat but well worth it. Recommend the Weekend Benedict, their quesadilla and salads.
Bulking Steerco
I've been wanting to try this place for a while now - what better time to brunch than being hungover? Catroux is nice and simple but deliver a hell of punch when it comes to food. I ordered the Braised Beef and my partner got the Kumara Rosti. We also got a smoothie each. I cannot fault the Braised Beef, the beef was succulent and the gravy/broth/sauce it swam in sent my hangover back into the abyss of the underworld. Definitely recommend paying a visit as I'll be sure to head back soon.
Food Snob
This is the "Go-to" for me and my husband when we're want quality healthy food yet a sufficient amount! Our usual order is the fitness bowl and Kumara rosti plus the take away cabinet salads! All the staff are friendly on the exception of one girl who may sometimes seem that she's having a bad day but none the less we know we will not leave Catroux disappointed nor hungry :-)
Grace Hsu
The food from Catroux is very flavourful and delicious! We ordered the Braised beef and the fitness bowl. The braised beef was succulent and the softness of the bread is perfect to cut with a knife! <br/><br/>The aesthetic of the cafe itself is simple and clean. Marble back drop of the menu makes catroux a very instagrammable cafe in this era.
Terence Ng
All around good food a nd drinks. What they are really good is the salads. Send over if you want a light salad. There is a sand pit at the back for kids as well.
Marley
Amazing amazing food! Really cool design and definitely the best cafe in the area. The smoothies were of a good standard, but the food was outstanding. The fitness bowl was well thought out and was a very generous portion. However, the food took 50 minutes to arrive which was far too long, especially considering that most of the people were only getting takeaway coffees. The staff seemed to be very disorganised and did not apologise for the delay. Although we would love to try many other things on the menu, we would not recommend going at a busy time.
Melissa
All I can say is the food was very average but the coffee was good. The food menu is quite limited compared to most cafes.<br/><br/>We ordered the Kumara Rosti, Eggs bene (available weekends & public holidays only), and the braised beef. There was A LOT of sauce which made it very overwhelming and it was quite oily. You would need to cleanse your insides with some fruit juice or something after 😅<br/><br/>The atmosphere was nice but doesn't make up for the taste of the food 🤔
Semanie Cato
YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM!!! Had a delicious lunch here on Wednesday. I ordered the Fitness Bowl with Avo whilst my partner opted for the Kumara Rosti with Proscuitto. Both were so tasty, fresh and full of flavour. Ive had a few Fitbess bowls from various establishments but this one topped the charts! Staff were super friendly, chatty and helpful. Only negative was it is extremely noisy, otherwise 2 thumbs up :-)<br/><br/>Kumara Rosti w/ Prosciutto: $21<br/>Fitness Bowl: $21 (Avo was an additional $4) <br/>Carrot Apple & Ginger Juice $8<br/><br/>Total $54.00<br/><br/>

I went to catraux on one occasion with a couple of friends. We had to ask for one of our coffees again when only 2 came out, and asked how far away our food after a very long wait. After this i wasn't thinking much about this place, though was turned around by the delicious food and they apologized by offering us something from the cabinet assuring us this isn't their usual level of service.<br/><br/>We were extremely full so they gave all 3 of us a couple of treats packaged up each. I left thinking impressed with them turning me round with there sincere apologies.<br/><br/>After this i went a second time, convincing a friend she had to try it. Unfortunately, we both had problems with our meals. One meal egg was practically raw, and in my food was a hard piece of sharp plastic that scraped the inside of my mouth. Very unpleasant!<br/>I told my friend not to worry and these guys are amazing and take this stuff seriously, and will definitely make up for it. The outcome however, was underwhelming. <br/>'Oh i'm sorry.. do you want another coffee?' Ahh.. i nearly swallowed a chunk of plastic! having been in similar situation before, i suggested something to take with us as we just had a huge meal.<br/><br/>We went up to pay, grabbed something off the table. The staff then tried to charge me for this, so i had to explain again what had happened again 'Ohhh right. you got plastic in your food.' she continued to charge me full price for my meal, and let me take a piece of fudge. <br/><br/>Straight after my friend went to pay, and she did the exact same thing. "oh.. did you get plastic in your meal too?' We explained we also weren't happy with this meal, and the previous staff member offered both of us something. Still doesn't believe us so goes to check with someone. full price meal, a piece of fudge (BTW isnt very good, stick to the food if you must) the whole encounter was very awkward, cold and we left feeling quite unwelcome as if WE had inconvenienced them. <br/>The staff didn't seem all that worried and genuinely apologetic and more as if they were following another procedure that actually caring. Potential to be a great place if all customers and every experience had the same high level of service.
Diogo Reck
Couldn't resist stopping by when I passed in frobt of this Coffee shop in Westmore. <br/><br/>Beautiful, cool, with seats on the street and inside the cozy venue. <br/><br/>Food looks and taste good, and the price is very, very reasonable. My dessert was yummy, although the mascarpone wasn't that good.<br/><br/>Coffee is also good, with balanced flavour. Strongly recommended.
Yoda
Nice place to hangout for breakfast or lunch. Had avo on 5 grain & was very pleased with the large amount of avo. The organic mince on toast was also apparently really good.<br/>For a place that has a reputation for yummy cakes I was disappointed with my red velvet cupcake - quite dry but almost saved by the large amount of icing.<br/>Hot cross buns were delicious!<br/>Cabinet food like salmon fillets & huge pork & fennel sausage rolls looked really good.
Harrison Davidson
Mate Catroux is the goods. Been hitting this little gem a lot lately, mostly for their amazing salads which frequently change. They taste so good and are so healthy. Great for a guy like me because the misses days I've been "letting myself go". <br/><br/>Thanks Catroux. Big ups
Mary Waters
Only the second time eating here and although the food is devine, the service needs smartening up just a little. Today the waitress got my order wrong, then insisted I had asked for what was delivered. There was no need for the 'who was the waitress who took your order?' and 'no, you asked for the paleo'. A simple 'sorry, I will get that underway now', with a smile, would have been appreciated. There was then at least a 15 minute wait and a rather abrupt delivery of the ordered dish. Rather ruined what should have been a very pleasant breakfast. :-(
Ryan Orr
Great service is the difference between a good cafe and a bad one. The service at Catroux wasn't great this weekend, the snappy young waitress treated us as an inconvenience. The food however was very good, the fitness bowl looked and tasted great and the mince on toast was very tasty.

UPDATED: have since been back to Catroux since this review and the service was on point, along with the food as per usual - even with an excellent refreshed menu. The wait staff were very attentive and quick, it was a great experience all round. <br/><br/>ORIGINAL: One of the best modern brunch menus in Auckland, the food is always on point, but my last few visits have just been let down by the service which is so disappointing considering the food is so great. <br/><br/>The wait staff aren't very helpful or attentive. Understand it gets busy but the front of house staff could take a leaf of our the Dear Jervois crew's book - they're always slammed but their service is good along with their food. <br/><br/>I'll keep going back for the epic food and hold onto hope they step the service game up!

As the review on my fridge was starting to curl around the edges, a sunny Sunday morning seemed to be the perfect time to visit Catroux. More honestly a need for healthy, wholesome food, plus Eighthirty coffee, is what really took me there.White, fresh and not too busy at that hour I was pulled to the counter by the yummy looking cabinet food. Deciding very quickly on the Paleo and the Green Eggs (and Ham?), our coffees, ordered first of course, kept us happy until the food arrived. Note - for a place that size, the number of wait staff ensured that no one was neglected for very long. Another tick.My breakfast was just what the Doctor ordered - looked amazing, covered in rocket.... half an avocado and the best bacon I've had on a plate since forever. The shitake mushrooms and Green Goddess dressing were a perfect compliment to the eggs. I confess - I didn't even taste the Green Eggs that my husband duly made short work of, very unusual for me! A takeaway Broccolini salad for dinner completed a very happy eating experience.Value for money, absolutely. Put me down for the Fitness Bowl next please.

Amazing food!! This place was heaving on a Saturday morning - great sign! Seriously incredible food - as a group of 4 we had two fitness bowls, one paleo and one energizer. I had the fitness bowl - packed with incredible flavours, super nutritious and so filling. Wowed by the food. Had a coffee and a juice too, both excellent. After taking a look at the counter on the way out I wanted to stay all day and try everything! A must go. Only marked down due to some complications over seating at the beginning - a waitress said we were next in line for table for 4 but let a couple go ahead and take it whilst looking embarrassed. But ok service after that (if a little slow and confusing - some tables were having orders taken at table but after 15 min wait we went and ordered at the counter)
Caitlin Earl
One of my favourite cafès, the staff are lovely and the food is lovely! There are even clean and healthy options. Only downside is, it's so good you can't always get a table cause it's so busy!
Anneke Pinker
The food is consistently amazing. Veges and salads have never tasted so good! Great coffee and delicious smoothies and juices too. <br/><br/>What is stopping  me from giving a 5 out of 5 is the service. I get a bit of a "I'm too hipster to be friendly" vibe. That said, it hasn't stopped me going back regularly.
Louise MacNaughton
Delicious salads and amazing coffee! They always have a full cabinet of yummy treats, alongside a menu of cooked food. So many options for a pretty small cafe. Always happy when I come here!
Paul Evans
A great little cafe. Good strong coffee, super tasty cakes and some delicious healthy options....oh and fantastic takeaway salads too. <br/><br/>My daughter absolutely loves the sandpit out the back. <br/><br/>Service can be a little variable depending who's on and kitchen can be a little slow when it's busy...but outside peak time it's hard to fault. Definitely the best in this neighbourhood.
Hugh Lloyd
Someone in the Kitchen knows what they are doing - combinations on offer work and there is a solid assortment to select from. <br/>Coffee is great and the people know what they are doing - I found out that the owner does alot of catering as well, which explains why the kitchen is always super busy<br/>After 4 yrs though, still always a struggle to get a seat, so they are doing something right and the kids sandpit down the back is a welcome distraction for the kids.
Relihan Myburgh
Use to come here 3 times a week and had an amazing experience. Food was fantastic and the coffee was always great. Now the service has taken a real turn for the worse. Restaurant was busy so we asked if we could sit, we were told yes, ordered coffee then we were told there was a seating list and told to get up and they were pretty rude about it. I left, didn't bother waiting for the coffees I already paid for. Gave it an extra +0.5 rating because it use to be great.<br/><br/>Took a break, and came back again and had several good experiences since the above mentioned issue service, however today (Easter Sunday) we came in, they forgot one coffee and one of the meals.
Anna Hinehou
My sister and I came to Catroux for a treat - Friday morning breakfast together. I love the interior at Catroux, white is the theme but definitely not too clinical.<br/><br/>My sister had the Energizer without cottage cheese. She enjoyed the flavour of the pumpernickel and also liked the beetroot. I had the fitness bowl and ordered some smoked salmon with it too. Delicious! Just what I like - a mixture of flavours that complement- the sweet orange and the nuts, the egg and avocado, it was delicious and reasonably virtuous too!<br/><br/>Service was quick, and friendly. I really enjoyed our experience at Catroux.
Katerina
I am so happy it's still there because no other bars/cafes did survived in this spot.<br/>Love theirs seasonal salads and I just buy them take away if I d have parties and all my friends just love them!<br/>You ll be lucky if you d find a table to have brunch or lunch - quite busy place and they have about maybe seven tables only. My favorite dish is salmon on rye bred with beet and lot's of goodness on it. Good coffee there too.
Luisa Jamieson
Great menu and consistently good food. Coffee is always hot and strong too, and their sweet cabinet food looks to divine! Had to wait a wee while for a table but was overall a good experience - would definitely recommended.
Georgia Forde
Fantastic menu and delicious food, highly recommend the fitness bowl and the avo smash! There rosti is also incredible! There freshly made juices are also great. The salads and other cabinet food always look yum as well. Great atmosphere too.
Abbey Hale
Went there on Saturday for breakfast for the first time. Was so impressed with the menu I would definitely recommend to someone. Being someone who has food intolerances, I found Catroux to be one of the first places that had something for everyone. From indulgent pancakes to Paleo Breakfasts to kids meals, there's no reason for someone to be unhappy! I had the paleo breakfast with a side of Midnighg Baker Bread, and my partner had the Weekend Benedict with Bacon on Kumara Ciabatta - both incredibly tasty and satisfying! The eight thirty coffee with their use of organic milk was perfect. Loved our experience, will definitely be back!

We ventured out to Catroux in Westmere on Sunday after hearing so many good reviews about it. It was super busy and we had to wait for 30 minutes but the wait was well worth it.<br/><br/>We ordered an almond milk latte and a mochacinno – both were just the way that we like them.<br/><br/>There are so many options on the breakfast menu that it’s hard to choose. I ordered the poached eggs ($10) on Midnight Baker bread (extra $1) with a side of avocado ($4.50), smoked salmon ($6) and wilted spinach with green goodness dressing ($6). The smoked salmon was quite light but all of the food tasted fresh and delicious. The Midnight baker bread is one of my favourite loaves of bread so it was nice to see a café offering this. <br/><br/>My partner ordered the paleo breakfast ($18) and swapped the bacon for salmon and added a couple more eggs. He really enjoyed his brunch too. <br/><br/>We left full and satisfied and would recommend the café to friends.
Chloe-Mae
My all time fav cafe EVER the salmon on pumper knickle bread/ the coffee everything here tickles my pickle if only it was closer to home I would be here every weekend

Getting 1 for the service. When you are served completely overcooked soft poached egg (photo) you don't give customer a lesson about different types of poached eggs. First thing you learn working as a chef is that egg needs to be running and first thing you learn as front of a house staff is to accommodate the customer.<br/><br/>Also had to ask for sweetener for 3 times, not hard to figure out that it never arrived.<br/><br/>Ladies sitting next to us got an attitude when asked about arrival of their coffe. Taking into account their plates were almost empty I think it was quite a valid question.<br/><br/>Not coming back!

Ideal for young families as it's often loud and filled with children on weekends. The food is fantastic, service can be a little slow. A generous selection of pre-made sandwiches and salads are on offer in the cabinet as well as a healthy brunch menu created with premium products.

I visited this place as there was a group of us for brunch and Meola couldn't accommodate so thought we would give Catroux a try instead.  <br/><br/>We managed to make our orders pretty quickly and took a seat on the large table.  The coffee came out shortly after - bonus as we had an early morning start and really needed it!  It was nice and creamy and while I can't say that it is the best coffee I have had (it was a tad bit over extracted) but it was drinkable.  The food didn't take too long after that too and I had ordered the Mexican and boy was it salty!  I didn't really enjoy it much which was a shame because it had sounded so good that a few of us ordered it and had the same issue with it.  <br/><br/>It's a cute little cafe, and I think that the wait staff were friendly and we didn't feel rushed even though the cafe was filling up with mums on their after morning runs.  I wouldn't go back as it is a bit out of the way for us so it would have to be that good for us to consider it.  Unfortunately that wasn't the case so I'll chalk it up to experience!

I come here for the salads for healthy options and they do taste nice. Coffee is a bit hit and miss.

Very underwhelmed with the service. <br/><br/>My salad came out looking and tasting like a dog's breakfast and 2yo's pie was cold. When I told waitress she said "oh". Husband we joke is a human waste disposal as he eats anything and everything and even he wouldn't touch it. They got the coffee order completely wrong.<br/><br/>Left feeling very underwhelmed, disappointed and hungry. Won't be back.

Nice setup. Clean and tidy. Coffee is ok but there is a large selection of quick stuff in the display cabinet. Worth a visit.

Frequently come here to pick up lunch to takeaway on the weekend. The salads and sandwiches are so good and great selection. Can't come here too late on a sat as you miss out though as I have a couple of times. They do nice fresh juices too.<br/>Staff are always friendly and service is quick.

Had lunch here today. Was quite underwhelmed by the service. Noone greeted us first of all. I know I can be a bit difficult to cater to as I have a gluten and dairy allergy but when asking what on the menu I would be able to eat, all I was told was to have gf toast with eggs. After enquiring about the potato/egg/bean salad I was told it was gluten free but contained dairy. After asking what dairy was in it, it was only eggs. Well eggs are not actually dairy so maybe the staff should be a little more informed or question the chef a little more in depth as she was very unhelpful trying to help me find something I could have. It was really nice food and coffee though in the end.

We experienced bad service here today. When the surly barista came with my coffee he couldn’t be bothered to come and place it in front of me – he placed it half way down the long table. I had ordered a pie which just needed to be heated. The café wasn’t busy so when we had finished everything else and there was still no sign of the pie I had to ask for my money back. We won’t waste money coming here again.

Gorgeous Energizer breakfast is to die for. Lovely menu, smiley staff, good service. My kind of perfect. My partners omelette with chorizo and vine tomatoes also tasty, well cooked and beautifully presented. So nice to find such an inspiring menu.

Six adults arrived at Catroux for brunch. We were there for 45 minutes waiting for a table and would have been happy to wait longer, unfortunately we were totally ignored by the staff. The result... we left and went across the road instead.

Arrived in the Sunday rush hour, After a wait in a long queue to order. Finally, We got a table. Expected another long wait for the food. However, shortly after coffee was served (my coffee was awesome by the way), the food came really fast and looked amazing, lots of passion . My kumara rosti was just yummy...Thanks Catroux for a lovely morning and absolutely will come back again.

Catroux is amazing. Best Cafe to pop up in Auckland for a long time. The service is always friendly, food always consistent and yummy and the coffee is awesome. I love how the menu changes every season! I am there almost every 2nd weekend, it is so popular but definitely worth the wait for a table. The treat cabinet is to die for, and I think the pink lamingtons are an essential entree to every meal haha. Delicious. Love Catroux.

No idea what the fuss is all about with Catroux. It was a pretentious cafe full of lack lustre food and average service. <br/>We ordered the eggs benedict - nothing special just the usual eggs bene you get an any old cafe these days. We made a big deal about asking for water when we ordered to which we were informed it would be brought to our table shortly. Shortly was 20 mins before one of us got up and asked again for it at the counter. After the water 'incident' we started getting a more friendlier, efficient service. Unfortunately, for us the food was a big let down. Wouldn't bother coming here again - plenty of other great cafe's around

We did arrive at 9.30 on a Sunday right in the middle of the peak rush. Luckily we did get a table but there was a long wait for coffee.<br/><br/>The Power Breakfast was fresh/tasty and was a great way to start a Sunday. The only let down was the coffee which tasted burnt. Maybe it was just a one off.<br/><br/>Worth a look as there are other options close if they are really busy.

I actually love Catroux. Since it opened a last year I have been at least once a weekend. I have introduced all of my friends/visiting family to it and it is universally loved all around. The food is beautiful and fresh, the coffee is great, the atmosphere is relaxed and I have always found the staff to be incredibly friendly (many people are greeted by name), fast and efficient. Living in a city such as Auckland where there are more eateries than people, Catroux shines. It is a must to visit. DO IT.

I really like the food here have been quite a few times as I regularly go to the butcher next door however the service is the pits! There is a blond young female who runs the place who is just rude and acts like she is doing us a favour by serving us. It's a shame as the food is delicious. Coffee just ok.

I'm dying to try Catroux. I went at Waitangi weekend but it was sooo full we couldn't get a seat. Bad timing, disappointed, but I'll be back! The array of beautiful homemade cakes and pastries was mouth watering - particularly the huge raspberry Lammingtons, yum! There are a few tables outside and a little sandpit out the back so were lots of Mums and kids there. the white fit out is really styley and I love the neon sign out front. I'm looking forward to being able to eat here!

Fabulous brunch spot, something for everyone - Plum Tart, Westmere Sausage, Scrambled Eggs and Scones were all raved about at our table. The coffee was the best I've had in months. The atmosphere was relaxed, I see a "Friends" type cafe in the making!

Great new café. Love the freshness of the white on white interior. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Fantastic range of food - all the salads I tried were delicious. Delicious cakes and sweet things as well. Definitely a new favourite.

Great new Cafe in Westmere in the old Alelie site (next to the butcher) !! Awesome food and People's coffee makes a nice change. Everything is a little bit different here which is quite refreshing. Only been open a couple of weeks but the number of people going through tells me its got legs. Try the Westmere sausage on brioche with mushroom jus for breakfast. Awesome

Always have a sensational range of mouth watering food available behind the cabinet and also one the best menus for a cafe! Now that people realise it is one of the top cafes in Auckland it is getting hard finding a table :-) My favourite at the moment is the Mexican!

We had ventured to Catroux not long after it opened and we were impressed with the coffee & the eggs first time round, so there have been a few return vists to this lovely, light air space in Westmere. It really is a lovely spot. Simple elegance prevails with whitewashed walls & floor to ceiling windows making it bright & light on a sunny Auckland morning. I love the simplicity & it certainly allows the giant bowls of salads & pretty cakes to shine. They are certainly tempting.<br/><br/>Even at 7:45 on a Friday morning it was busy but we secured our table. The breakfast menu is a little different, fresh & seasonal with their own twist. I was tempted by the omelette. This particular variation was roasted red pepper, goat cheese & caramelised onion. Very very tempting & too much for my breakfast buddy to resist. And I love the energiser; smoked salmon, avocado, cottage cheese, toasted pimpernickel, rocket, pickled beetroot & olive oil. It nourishes & rejuvenates. The pimpernickel is the star, wonderfully rich and dark , with a little treacly sweetness<br/><br/>This time however I was lured by a newbie on the breakfast menu; the scramble. No ordinary scramble, like I said Catroux likes to put their own unique twist on things. This scramble is soft scrambled egg with za'atar prawns, feta & spring onion. Who would have thought, right ? But it works, creamy scramble, sweet prawns, sharp feta & fresh spring onions all come together wonderfully.<br/><br/>The staff are friendly and full of smiles & that combined with fresh, seasonal delicious food makes it one of Auckland’s perfect spots for breakfast or brunch & that is why we keep going back for more.<br/><br/>If you like this check out www.toast-nz.com

Delicious, fresh and creative meals in an elegant environment! We've visited Catroux several times and think it's a wonderful cafe. The service can be a little hit and miss, but we love the menu. Recommend the fresh juices! Lots of options for things from the cabinet as well, such as salads, cakes, slices and filled rolls.
