Review Gorilla Kitchen - Auckland

Everything is vegan and delicious!! So many varieties. We settled on Bruschetta and Gorrila Fila. Those were excellent choices for brunch. We had countless delicious ingredients in our meals, feeling so filling and healthy. The ice coffee had whipped coconut cream on it.

Was so excited to see a vegan Caesar salad on the menu! Been missing them since I left home šŸ˜… food here is amazing and full of vegan vibes as opposed to vegan food trying to be meat. Loved the flavors. Cute little spot too. Definitely recommend to any vegan checking out Auckland!

Forgot to take picture of their BBQ Chucken Burger šŸ” which was good but our colleague shared their Berber in the picture (with falafel šŸ§† patties and beetroot relish was even more yummy) Loved their vegan pizza, the JalapeƱo was so good to bite into and you will definitely taste the vegan cheese and notice a difference if you love cheese ( not in a bad way). Entirely, it was a delicious, simple, wholesome and clean meal. Their staffs are attentive, and service was good. I must mention they keep their toilet pristine and smelling good. Perfecto! My husband and I enjoyed it with our colleague.

Great vegan/vego option. Went Friday night (booked beforehand) There were a lot of empty tables on arrival however it was on one of the nights of the cyclone so *subject to that. Food was very nice however I found the portion sizes on the small side, very thankful those around were unable to finish. I would note that the prices are more expensive than I'd expect. The wait time was around 15min before food arrived. Drinks came very fast. Servers were lovely and friendly however were a little slow to come back and ask about more drinks.

Ordered the Haw In and Spicy Tofu pizzas. Pizzas are large for price. One pizza is easily enough food for 2-3 people. Flavor was good but Iā€™m not a fan of thin crust. Not certain but seems like the crust was prepackaged and not made on-site.

A classic NZ cafe experience, but made vegan. The wide range of pizzas, burgers, salads and more all come in very generous portions, so come hungry. Great value for money. Vegans and non-vegans alike are spoiled for choice with the large menu filled with both hearty faux meat bites and healthier options too. You will leave very full.

Royale Burger was superb - wife loved it and sheā€™s not even vegan. Finally got to have the waffles - also superb! Highly recommend!

Amazing vegan/plant based meals. A nice mix of faux meat and other types of ingredients. The serves are very generous in size, and my friends were all impressed by their meals. Staff were friendly and attentive too.

Have wanted to dine here for years and finally made it- did not disappoint. One of the best vegan restaurants in Auckland ā¤

Have been looking forward to dining here since planning our trip to Auckland and it didn't disappoint at all. The cauliflower wings were superb and the burgers were exquisite. Recommend to all.

Awesome food and a fantastic chief that makes all the food....her vegan food is the best I have ever eaten and I'm not vegan...:)

I'm always so grateful for all vegan establishments and excited for delicious food. The setup of the cafe was a bit awkward and they seemed busier than they could comfortably handle. I ordered the French Toast which was absolutely delicious but felt over priced for the portion size ($21, I believe, so way above average). My partner got the loaded fries which also seemed small for $14. They were relatively tasty, he said but the slices of jalepeno were extremely chunky and not pleasant to eat that way. We had our order messed up a couple of times while we were there, first with a drink, and then forgetting our desert. Not a biggy but just sort of felt like one thing after another. One waitress was absolutely lovely and attentive but the other staff we encountered were flat and not that interested and it was hard to get anyone's attention to rectify issues, making them more frustrating. Was not impressed with the caramel milkshake which was a bit warm and watery. Also got a crispy duck wrap which was not in anyway crispy, but still fine. I love to support vegan businesses and will definitely return for another go, but feel like they have some refining to do with their atmosphere and service. Maybe some more detail on the menu would be nice. My French Toast was so tiny but I saw burgers going out that were similarly priced that looked like really substantial meals so was a bit confused.

I had a Mexican ā€œChickenā€ Burger yesterday at Auckland City Limits Festival, it was soo good! Thank you so much for being there awesome to have some amazing vegan food without being ā€œfussyā€

Aysha has a special ability to do amazing things with food that very few chefs I have worked with has even come close to. I think her secret is a combination of a compassionate, mindful approach (lacking in a lot of kitchens) and a heap of experience. Food that is both ethical and healthy can also taste really bloody good, but you don't often see those 3 elements brought together well. Gorilla Kitchen pulls it off with flying colours. Can't wait to eat Aysha's cooking again!

Such delicious food. My kids loved it as much as I did which is always a huge plus.

after having eaten ALOT of fake chicken in my life, this was honestly disgusting. I never write reviews but i thought i had to cause there were none about the chicken. I literally made an account for this and I wouldn't have bought it if i knew. Thinking about it makes me feel sick. It feels fatty in the mouth, stringy and long pieces of stringy slimy stretchy fatty 'chicken' is wrapped around a stick. Couldn't eat one. The 'skin' was fatty and when i bit into, all these fatty juices exploded out of it. Additionally, there was a hair in it.
The chips I got were okay, just needed more seasoning.

Such amazing food! Portions are so decent. The best vegan fish and chips and Caesar salad Iā€™ve ever had! So many options and they do everything so well. Well done guys!

This is the Hawaiian pizza we ordered from GK through Ubereats. $27. Worst pizza I have ever had my entire life. Dough sucks, no flavor, not even warm. Domino's $4.99 pizza is way better than this. I am infuriated by how low of the quality the food is. You should be reviewing your food quality for how much you charge!!!!!!

I had such a great meal here, I didn't have bad expectations because I've heard good things and i definitely confirm it!
The variety is so broad, I ended up getting the Frida burger and it was just 10/10 amazing, the flavor and the texture was just like wow and on point, side of fries was small considering the cost but the burger easily made up for it.
The ambience was nice and the staff were attentive and friendly.
Will definitely be coming back here, probably for dinner this time.
Eat here, you will not be disappointed

Despite the rave reviews I have been a bit underwhelmed with GK. The food is fresh and healthy but lacks something for me.

Went here as they were having a special on their burger meals and was super excited as I had heard so many good things! I got a burger with a side salad, portion was great but was super disappointed with the salad. It was very bland and was dressed in a lot of olive oil and nothing else. It just tasted like wet lettuce and was not enjoyable at all. I asked the staff and they said they dont do salad dressing at this restaurant which was strange. The bun on the burger was a bit stale but other than that the flavours of the burger were great and I will definitely give this place another shot! (And maybe get the fries instead of the salad next time haha).

Such a lovely place. Great food and even better service! Love that all the food is 100% plant based. Will definitely be back

First time visited this place and it is an absolutely amazing experience.

We were greeted with a friendly and helpful staff. When the menu came, there is a wide variety of options for us to choose from.

I had a Mocha and it was great. The food are awesome.

Overall, this is a great experience. :)

We had the Mexican & BBQ Burgers. They were full of flavour considering they were vegan also. The chips for me were a letdown - Just quite mushy however that comes down to preference. We prefer a nice crunch!

I didn't know that place is a Vegan Cafe.

The staff was friendly and polite.
A latte with soy milk was surprisingly so good.
Iā€™m trying to quit drinking milk and choose soy milk instead, and unfortunately Iā€™m not a big fan of soy milk but their soy milk was really good!

love to try their meals next time!

The service here was really outstanding! We ordered the soup of the day, Turkish Delight french toast and two items from the cabinet: the ā€œsmoked salmonā€ bagel and macaroni cheese. Talk about a food coma! The versatility of items on the menu is fantastic and knowing that, as a vegan, I can eat it all is even better. Definitely one of the best plant based restaurants in Auckland.

I met a freind for a quick lunch to Gorilla Kitchen as I have wanted to try for a while & I absolutely loved it. I ordered the 'seize her' salad & OMG it was so delicious I actually was blown away, so much so I took my Husband for lunch the next week(for my birthday).....& I had to order the same thing again as I was craving it (both times took half home as it was too delicious to leave any behind. My Husband got nachos which was yummy as well. We then decided to get some food from the cabinet for dinner & got 2 x salads & a muffin. Seriously every thing we had was a winner! Highly recommend the food. Oh, and the service which I believe was the owner was so nice, wasn't kept waiting at all & when paying was asked how we enjoyed it & wished me a happy birthday too. I should have taken photos but was too busy eating!

everything was beautiful but was absolutely blown away with the black forest pancakes!! šŸ¤© will definitely be back!

Food: 2.8/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 2.8/5

I was actually excited that there was a vegan cafe in Eden terrace because it would mean that vegans now have more options to choose from. However I would say the food (especially in the cabinet) were quite expensive. I got toast sandwich for takeaway. The filling was some tomato, cheese and onion but it was $8... there was some margarine-like spread on the whole grain bread but it was extremely messy to eat because your fingers and the paper bag and tissue were gonna be all greasy.

......so just found Gorilla Kitchen on Symonds Street (2min from my office) and had lunch!. Absolutely delicious - could do with a bit more seasoning but delicious none the less! Bathrooms were nice and clean. All food is plant based despite the names "chicken" and "beef" on the dishes!Ā

Got chatting to this guy Lawrence at the counter and he introduced me to the dishes they serve and he said that their dinner menu is awesome and they looking to secure a liquor license to serve vegan wines etc.Ā

I totally encourage you all to give it a try and have these guys succeed and thrive in this bustling city!Ā

5 stars to these guys. Over a period of time, will try all dishes and report if quality changes!

This place is buzzing with great vegan food, drinks and staff. The staff are extremely attentive, friendly and patient. The food is amazing, full of flavour and generous portions. The menu is extensive- lots to choose from. We ordered the chicken burger, loaded fries, pancakes, nachos and big breakfast. All which was vegan of course. Great place to dine and catch up with your friends.
Pick&Mix
I canā€™t do 3.5 stars on my phone so please add a half star.
As vegetarians we went to Gorilla for breakfast excited about being able to choose anything on the menu and the menu was vast. So much to choose from and great looking counter food too. Staff were attentive from the get go and ready to explain if anything was required. We got the Gorilla Filla - this was not huge at $22 but had options of 2 ways in the ā€˜eggz/tofuā€™ also got the cornucopia which was beautiful looking, again on the small side and could have done with a chutney or chilly jam to liven it up. The coconut bacon was coconut chips and about a heaped tea spoon and the avocado smash was similar in size. The long and short of our meal was that we were hungry after and came away to find another meal at home. I will most definitely go there for their burgers or a lunch or dinner and try them again but the breakfast didnā€™t knock our socks off. The service alone was probably some of the nicest weā€™ve had anywhere in the world.

I found the service to be exceptional. So nice, attentive and fast. The place is very clean and it has a beautiful style with lots of room around the tables. The bathroom was lovely, and they even compost the paper towels and use smartass toilet paper, which was of interest to me because I have been thinking about ordering it. It is vegan- very vegan- down to the kombucha on tap & no salt or pepper on the tables. I got a salad & a flat white & both were excellent. I got a giant scone to takeaway which I shared with my family. It was loved by all. It might have to do with it being a Saturday, but my criticism would be a lack of selection. There were three salads, a few sandwiches, bliss balls, brownies, scones and maybe a couple of other cabinet items- not massive but satisfactory. However the breakfast menu could offer a better range of options from the same ingredients. The large breakfast is very large, and yet there are no smaller options. They offer sides, but no small meals to add these onto. I also do realise that it is vegan, but I found it to be very carb heavy- surely I'm not the only vegan trying to avoid potatoes and bread? Anyway, I will be back & I'm so stoked to have another awesome vegan option- I would give it 4.5 but it seems that I can't anymore. I would highly recommend.

Iā€™ve been here a few times now... Always greeted with a smile. great service! Coffee consistently good. The pear salad is my fav out of the cabinet!

Great food and really good service, the interior is also really modern and fresh. Love this place and will definitely be back for more delicious vegan food! P.s the lemon meringue French toast is possibly the best thing Iā€™ve ever tasted

Nice little spot with some decent options. I have a dairy intolerance so there are some more options here for me than other places. The staff are helpful as they are still working out kinks so a few times we have been there are some options missing. But there are decent lunch and cabinet options in offer. The time I sat in for lunch I had the tofu bowl that was really tasty

Iā€™ve been here twice since the kitchen opening last week, having tried the pancakes, bruschetta, ā€œchickenā€ burger and the French toast all I can say is GO! 100% vegan and 100% cruelty free, even if youā€™re not vegan donā€™t be scared by the word and go. Every bite had flavour. I prefer GK to other newly opened plant based eateries so definitely give it a try if you have the others.

Super happy to come here on a rainy day because the food was so worth it and cheered me up right away! The Mac n Cheese I had been craving for since those days at Kings Arms when Gorilla kitchen started their pop ups at, was available today and I gobbled that up along with an equally delicious mushroom filo pastry. Really took me back to those days when I wasn't a vegan and ate everything, not that I'd ever change now but the taste of the food is so important to me as well. Loved the double choc brownie too. It's really special when I can order anything from the menu and cabinet and not need to choose from maybe 2 items max. So thank you!

Tried out the new Gorilla Kitchen today during their soft launch, so they are just serving cabinet food until the full launch on 14th July. Have to say if the cabinet food is anything to go by Iā€™m very excited about the full menu! The Mac n ā€˜cheeseā€™ was super cheesy and delicious and a very generous serve and the brownie was super chocolatey, chewy and delicious. Plant potion lattes are a must try too. Will be back soon.

Came here for a late breakfast this morning and had a rice mylk cosmic brew and the scrambled tofu english muffin, amaaazing. I had to get a takeaway haul (pictured) of brownie, cheesecake, vanilla cake, curry chicken pie and duck wrap which we sampled when we got home and all were delicious too. So amazing to have a place like this open
