Review Burgerfuel Ponsonby - Auckland

Niklas Arfors
First time here and Burger tasted amazing. Perfect balance of flavours and meat was cooked nicely. Fires crispy on out side and silky smooth on inside

If you're looking for super sized mouth watering burgers this is the right place! Staff is friendly and helpful..speedy service. Expensive but worth the spend.
Cam
Their alioli and chips are the best. Pretty good burgers, definitely a bit expensive for fast food
cande bernis
The staff was amazing and the food great.

Was there an adjustment to the composition of the beef paddies? I had the American muscle and it tasted a bit fattyer…

Service was adequate, although it is to noted here that when my burger first came to me, it was lukewarm... The cheese wasn't even really melted. So I went back to the counter lady and told her to heat it up. To my surprise - she didn't pop it in the microwave, they actually made me a completely new one! I really appreciated that. The American muscle burger is my fave! Out of all the burgerfuel shops I've been to in Auckland though I will say, my fave is Parnell ☺️ Across the board for most places you'll find the same standard of service and cooking 🍳🔪 (Just not in mission bay)

Best burgers in the area hands down. Went around and tasted the competition, b/c I thought smaller shops will have more bespoke burgers and will give them more love than BF. I was wrong, BF consistently tastes great, and apart from one time when I only got 1 aioli instead the 2 I ordered, service is very good (+the prices are better too) Will stop looking for a better burger, I get exactly what I want here.
Vanita Andrews
Awesome experience (which made up for the last visit) Was mainly a young man’s exceptional customer service and presentation of the food when dining in.
Davis Mathew
It’s really good place to chill out with friends and family. As always burger fuels American muscle burgers were the best .

Had the v8 vegan burger. Let me tell you it was delicious! I don't know what the party is made from but it was great! Super messy and large. Cost $13

I know it is a franchise but it is Ponsonby Road, it needs more creativity in the space. Food and service is stock standard.
Jo
Our default burger fuel place. One of the better ones in town.
Josheel Pranlal
Second best way to end a night out.

Always good. honestly the best and most adventurous burger chain there is. My Italian sister came here and had never had anything like it even in america. Legit interesting burgers beats everything else hands down.
Henry Gardiner
Great variety burgers. Delicious meaty burgers with tonnes of filling. Highly recommended if your looking for a high quality burger.

No one like Burger Fuel: my burger 100% free on my b'day! You guys are simply the best 🤟 Cheers

It was a miserable day in Ponsonby and the chips served well as brief distraction.

Ally gave me the best service highly recommend

Love that burger fuel Ponsonby is open late on Friday/Saturday nights and that they’re on uber eats. Makes it highly convenient every time I need them!
Love the burgers and sides and the more healthy options when you need them like the grilled chicken

Despite living a two minute walk from this branch, I drive to the store in Mt Eden to get BurgerFuel. Last time I was here I ordered a vegan V8 and spud fries with vegan aioli (which I paid extra for). The wait was really long and when I finally got the burger it was completely cold, I assume they just forgot to call me up to get it. I was also disgusted to find out they gave me non vegan aioli despite the fully vegan order. When I went up to the till to point out I nearly ate egg aioli the guy shrugged, pulled an unlabelled pottle of aioli out of a bucket and said it was a busy night without even a sorry. Burger Fuel need to label its products - if my partner hadn’t have pointed out they gave me egg aioli I would have eaten it. I really hope no one with an egg allergy eats here as this is a legit food health and safety issue.

Mixed feeling about this branch, burger sometimes good but sometimes too dry; last time we ordered take away- my burger was cold and the kumara fries looked like was half eaten. Their shakes consistently good though

This establishment was extremely racist to my friend, they wouldn’t serve him bc of his ethnicity, very disappointing :( I can’t believe that this would happen in this day and ages

Oily oily oily! I had the beyond belief and the tofu burger. Both of them were fine, nothing outstanding. But the potato bites were so oily, disgusting!

Made an effort to visit the Ponsonby store, set in the middle of one of Auckland's busiest and most energetic strips traversing Ponsonby.

The burgers were fantastic. The patties were wholesome, gleaming with flavour from the very first bite til the last. The aioli sauce is just heavenly, as always. Tried the Burger Fuel special - thickshake, which wasn't too shabby at all.

However felt the service was rather indifferent and aloof. Ordered online for pickup, and despite having to wait an extra 10 minutes for the food to be ready, there didn't seem like any sincere acknowledgement to me as a basic customer, much less the late delivery of the food.

Overall Burger Fuel is one of those higher-end burger establishments that's very much "Kiwi". You can tell its founded and run by a bunch of born-and-bred New Zealanders, which definitely is a big plus to me, as you know it's not some migrant labour being exploited to gain residency or some sort. The burgers are definitely worth the premium you pay for, however I've found the service to be sketchy and inconsistent across the many stores I've been to throughout Auckland.

I'd probably visit again when I have the chance, just based on the fact you feel a sense of grassroots Kiwi culture associated with the business. However don't have your hopes up for any kind of personal service, unless you belong in their desired demographic.

A good place for burgers. Beef burgers are really good compared to the chicken burgers. Chicken burger(burnout) oreded was too sogy and the taste of cheese sauce was over powering.
Burger Fuel is on a hat-trick! Their burgers are by far the best I've ever tasted. The staff is very courteous and professional. The store is hygienic and looks great as well. The burger was stunning, and I've come to love the coke bottles here in New Zealand. A great experience, again!

Burgerfuel is and always will be my go-to fast-food burger joint. I love the classic beef burgers and the bacon backfire chicken burger! Also pleaaaase bring back the fush & chups burger! The chips are always delicious and the aioli is my favourite! A++++

Came here really late on Saturday night and was actually quite impressed. It was so busy (lines at the counter) but they seemed to have the right amount of staff on to get out everybody's orders pretty fast. I ordered the C N Cheese and fries which tasted as good as always. Definitely glad they're open late as all my friends and I felt like was burgers 🍔🍔
Daniel Eavestaff
Disappointing. I went in during opening hours but they had a reduced menu. I requested to have an item removed from my order but they 'do not do special orders'
Kelly Vilisoni-Richards
Arrived here about 3pm so it was pretty quiet.
Service was okay. I ordered a chook Royale without pineapple and spud fries. Burger was tasty, a bit more aioli would've been nice though.
Clean restaurant and nice interior.
YaMarnis
Had a burger and kids meals. They didn't listen and had to go back and get fries made as they said we had them... unless we ate them in a sec then NO. No sorry or nothing. Well it is Ponsonby can't expect to have service and manners.

Always a good burger from burger fuel. Better than Maccas or Burger King but not quite like burger burger. Good sized burgers, lots of flavours and filling, good portion of patty. Service was good and came out fast. Only thing I don't like about this place is the avocado is sometimes off and tastes awful. If that is going to be the case just don't put it in, just let people know when you order a burger with avocado at the counter as I'll order something for just the yummy avocado and then am not impressed when I have to pick it out.

If you love burgers for a celebration meal. OMG. my Bastard was lovely. Kumara fries too. Hamburgers have come of age from the days of UNCLES. (If you rembr this place).

Fabulous burger. We'll be back. Goes without saying. 🍔🍔
Good Food, Good Mood
Shotout to the staff at the Ponsonby store who have to deal with drunkards after a big night at Longroom. Ordered the Hamburgini with spud fries and the quality was still pretty good at 3am. The pickle is a great addition too.
Ayaan
Snap best Bf because they do late nights so when you craving this goodness they your go on a late Friday night Mmmm cnCheese with egg can't go wrong and wash it down with a shake 👊🏽💂🏽
Sam Reid
Ordered a c n cheese and a burnout and got a flame thrower instead, now if you know me then you know I like it hot n spicy like the chicken wings, but when it comes to a burger I want beef n cheese and when I don't get my beef n cheese (like any normal person) I'm not happy, so not happy burger fuel with my order because normally it's fantastic but not today !! :(

The original indie burger joint that begat them all. Well at least that is how I remember it. Since then it has turned into a chain, still with the same great selection of burgers, but many pretenders to the throne of burgerdom have risen. If I can offer one bit of advice, please add a fish burger to your menu, how hard can that be... Anyway this venue was packed on a Saturday night (another burger place across the road was empty as a contrast), and my veggie burger was succulent with aioli. I've always appreciated the kumara fries. If you want to taste real burgers, come here.
Danny
The usual excellent burgers you would expect from BurgerFuel. If you have never tried a burger from here before, you are missing out! Understandably, as this is in Ponsonby, expect it to be quite noisy and crowded.

I usually order the Bacon Backfire or the Bastard, but their chicken burgers are pretty good too. Can't really go wrong with BurgerFuel!

Visiting from Melbourne and I remembered this amazing burger joint!

What I liked:
- the soft non-greasy bun
- the size of the burger patty is well aligned to the size of the bun
- the burgers are pretty big and filling.
- the aioli!!

I swear burger fuel was a lot more amazing in my memory, and it is still pretty good but I think the burger game has been much stronger in recent years.

Still love the doofer!
Yoda
Popular chain of gourmet burgers - better than some. Nice seating inside & out at Mt Eden.
Burgers are huge, fries good - service is fine. A bigger selection of fillings for the junior burger would be appreciated for those of us with "normal" appetites.
Tee A Corriee
Always good customer service, cool decor and spot, outside seating good for people watching. Vegan Tofu burger has delicious sauces even without the aoli, but even with the bigger bun for just $1 more, I think it is still too light and you need chips to fill you up the rest of the way. Bean and moto bites burger might be more filling, i'll have to try next time.

Wow the Bacon backfire is in my top 5 burgers of all time. Very consistent. Allways get a cheeky burgerfuel munch on the way home from a few brews up in Ponsonby
Mary
Good staff. Good range but not as yummy as Burger Burger. Also the location is not as nice. My kids love this place. I would go here if Burger Burger was full.
Trak Gray
Delicious food and really lovely, friendly service. Nice outdoor tables and great milkshakes. A bit pricey but I never walk away with any regrets.

Went here last week with workmates! I've only been to this branch once but it's because I don't go to Ponsonby that often. I would give the service time 6.5/10. I love their aoili sauce. I recommend getting the chicken tenders with the lemon aoili dip- absolutely amazing. Their chicken burgers and kumara fries are also really good. Every time I go to Burger Fuel, I'm always too hungry to take a photo, which I regret all the time ZomatoStudents
Laura
Very visually appealing, the staff were friendly and helpful. Fast service and excellent execution in the traditional menu, definitely would visit again!
I Am Hungry
The food at Burger Fuel is always good...fresh high quality ingredients and great choice... just love the place....decor is great..with the spark-plug wall lamp..checkout urself...

Burger Fuel takes burgers to a whole new level. A real all-rounded place, Burger Fuel is a true example of less is more. The restaurant uses prime ingredients, has many options and delivers exceptionally well.

When I go to Burger Fuel, I usually order the ford freak out, which is an ideal choice if you are a bacon fanatic (as I'm sure 99% of the world are) with their fresh patties and crisp veggies nothing tops it off better than their delicious spicy relishes! Not only does this place make top notch burgers, but insanely good kumara fries, chicken tenders (not the icky deep fried stuff) and kickass sauces! Great for a late night feast or a lazy meal.

Not the cheapest burger joint but definetly the best!
Lisa Su
Best vibes on a Friday night in ponsonby! Best tunes, best service and best staff serenading you with songs such as "lips of an angel" whilst you wait. 😘
Emma
Best service ever they go above and beyond if something goes wrong to make up for it! And the burgers and chicken fenders are always delicious
Victoria
Yummy and consistent, just like any other burger fuel I've been to. Although on the pricier end you always know you're going to get a quality product and your burger fix. Fail safe option for burgers!
Jess Pendergrast
If I need a burger fix (or kumara fries fix) then I usually head along to Burgerfuel.

The Ponsonby location is huge and has lots of seating which is perfect if you want to eat your burger there. The service is always really good. Their burgers are filling and full of flavour and there are no words to describe their kumara fries.

The only disappointment is that you have to pay extra if you want to have your burger served in lettuce rather than a bun.
Melanie Rose Hansen
Best service ever, better than any other burger fuel! The staff here are very impressive and well trained, I drive across town to eat here, the staff can always make you smile!

Totally my favourite Burger Fuel store in Auckland. So massive and just been recently renovated. I love their outdoor seating as well. It's the best place to be when it's sunny. Their food is always so consistent and how can you go wrong with Spud Fries and Aioli dipping sauce. Even writing this is making my mouth water. Good clean restaurant with many big screen TV's to watch some easy music videos etc. When you've got hunger pains, this place will sort em'
Steven Miratana
The burgers are okay; worthy of a return trip (and good kumara fries) but the service is terrible. Rude, surly guys behind the counter, no apologies or empathy for menu items that are frequently unavailable. After several bad experiences, I won't be going back. The Ellerslie store is just as bad.
David Arthur
I went to Burger Fuel in Ponsonby Road last night to try their new Firestone Fish Burger - the "Fush & Chups" meal. I was very very disappointed. It was supposed to be a beer battered Snapper fillet but it certainly didn't taste like it. I could have got a better fish burger from a local takeaway for 1/3 the price. The fries were disappointing as well. Not up to their usual standard. The sparrows outside on the pavement seemed to enjoy the fries though! On a positive note, the service was good.
Russnz75
At the start they were great, good environment cool space invaders game, even had some free credits, and the staff was fine, but now they have made changes, the bun is wheat, the chip sizes are gone, just one size which I have been told it's smaller than a large but bigger than a med and the small burger just has normal cheese no Parmesan, it's getting more greasy now, well the packed gets oily, meat pattie is not on the drip tray long enough
Pm
the food itself is ok ( not somthing unusual )
But they dnt care about customers when they get busy.
lucky they are next to the bar , so the would get so much drunk customers, and those people wont notice the service
Jesse Wansbrough
Burger Fuel is Great. They are one of the few places that offer Gluten free buns that still taste incredible. After I found out I couldn't have wheat I thought it was all over for me and burgers, however after discovering the gluten free options here, I find that their gluten free burgers are much nicer than the normal burgers I remember eating at many of the other places.

However one thing does puzzle me, how come they can open stores in Sudi Arabia and Australia, yet they still have no stores in the South Island??
Peter Katelaan
Nice Burger shop for your everyday Burger grief. The quality of the food is good, but remember to say: "Go easy on the sauce" otherwise you won't taste anything but sauce.
Gskmac
It's not really a restaurant but a fast food snack. It s good for an "industrial" burger at 10$ but there is much better in auckland. there are more than 10 address in auckland. the beef burger is not bad but the meat is really well done not medium rare, in a real burger home made you can choose the cook , the chicken is not really good, the fries are ok.
Nik Joshi
always had an impression that its another americanized flashy yucky burger chain. Was dragged in by a mate at work during lunch coz we were short on time. And man was I surprised, i was completely blown away with the range of food and especially the Kumara chips. Shattering splendid burger and absolutely loved the size. Burger Fuel gets my vote as the best burger joint in NZ for sure. i never had a clue this place so good. try it to believe it. i recommend it for sure!

I was diagnosed a Coeliac patient 4 yrs ago. I have always purchased burgers for my family from Burger Fuel as i believe that they are the best burgers around. I heard that Gluten free burgers were available. I purchased one tonight and really enjoyed it. What a treat to be able to eat a real good burger again. Thanks to Burger Fuel i will be telling all my Coeliac friends to buy your burgers and of course those who are not.
Javier Yebenes
The burgers at Burger Fuel are good but for the price you pay for a combo you can pretty much eat a good steak at a steakhouse. Some of the sandwiches are original, but given the price you pay for the product there`s nothing fantastic about it.
