I wandered past this little gem so many times and finally had time to stop on one evening. Atmosphere is wonderful, with great decor and fireplace, staff are very attentive with attention to derail second nature. Cheese platter had a great selection and with the drinks was great value too!

Went to a wine tasting dinner, surprised I had never actually been here before. Fantastic atmosphere, wine, food and service. Really enjoyable night.

Great selection of cabinet food and menu. Good coffee and friendly staff. Added bonus of free customer parking off a side street around the corner which can be hard on Jervois Road sometimes. The food is comparatively cheap for the area and it's nice to be able to get a quick meal without spending a fortune. A nice cafe to relax it. It's not super trendy but cosy.

Iconic local in Herne Bay. Such a great vibe, delicious tapa style menu, reasonably priced wine, great service and lovely location. Love going here and very popular with the locals.
Jean-Paul Hastings
Great friendly service, fantastic wine list and the food was delicious. We’ll be going back!

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a glass of wine and some tapas Dida's is a great choice. The open fireplace and comfortable seating creates a warm, homelike atmosphere. A wide selection of wines, beers, and spirits on offer ensures that there is something to satisfy every taste.

Welcoming, professional staff (who smile!), fabulous tapas, a superb wine selection, warm homely decor and a most convivial atmosphere, even when it's busy.
One thing it hasn't, which so many other places have, is music playing at an obtrusive volume; it's a mere whisper in the background, which we love.
With a nice balance of the unassuming and the elegant, this place reeks atmosphere and 'good vibe'.

Staff : 5 (Super polite- they went out of their way to get me the drink I wanted )
Food : 4 ( yummy and satisfying, love the snack model because I can try many dishes)
Ambiance: 3 ( looks a bit run down and old)
Price: 4 ( very cheap for the quality you get)

Also I like that they stay open later compared to others in the same area. It’s a nice place to have some wine and tapas with your friends.

Very average food, terrible service, very hot - no windows or air con inside, everything slow to stopping even tho' the place was only 1/4 full. Barman chatted to man at the bar most of the time, not serving.
Plenty of other places to go so will not go again.

This place looks a bit like most other bars in the area but with a great wine stash behind the bar. What isn't so widely advertised is their private cellar downstairs which can be occupied for a time while drinking and dining. Being able to have this space all to yourself /or significant other is quite special and the great wine selection coupled with an excellent tapas menu make this hidden gem one for the books!

What a find between Ponsonby and Herne Bay. Dida is beautifully set for its location, its interior design and its wine&tapas paring presentation.

Better to be here after 4pm, otherwise you would feel too early to relax. Maybe the locals never take a thought like that. Anyhow, Dida is a place for friends, for two, three or a big group. You name it. It is fully functional with a nice vibe easily to get immersed.

Dim light soon recalls you of Spanish Monastery style, floor-to-ceiling shelves could both work for books and of course, wine display. A good selection of wine, with a smartly put tapas menu. Nothing works better than little bites for the wine mood. Paella&Romesco Arancini, which is seafood ball with romesco sauce, full of nutty and dried tomato flavor. Then we tried the potato bravas, which is potato chunks with spicy tomato sauce and saffron aioli, quite fit for a glass of port though:) Braised pork pringa turns out burger-like snacks. The flavor is totally light up by the gazpacho mayonnaise. Truly Spanish, however, they all work out nicely with New Zealand white and red wine.

Feel free to come any time at Dida's. Bring a sense of curiosity and an open mind with what they can offer, it will be so much fun and relaxed.

No redeeming features!
Visited Dida's for breakfast, zero service, less than average ambience, luke warm coffee and boring breakfast. A good place to sit in the sun but that is about it!

The breakfast stack here is really good, coffee ok, service can be very slow, & please, please, replace the trendy but uncomfortable & back breaking school pews used as seating on some tables!
Nice selection of goodies for takeaway.

Been here so many time and love the food here !!! Nice and fresh .
The only thing is staff is not so friendly. I wish they can smile more it will be better!

Lovey warm atmosphere with old school leather sofas and a fire place. My kind of interior.
Helpful bar staff. Great selection of wine but a limited late night food menu. It's surely a couples place.

Beautiful coffee and the prawn pasta is amazing! Parking can be a bit difficult especially on weekend mornings/lunch. Portions may be a bit small for some, however.

Dida's a cute little deli nestled in Ponsonby and with it bursting at the seams with people for lunch I had high expectations. Although I love the atmosphere and the locally roasted coffee is delicious! The staff are great and friendly. I just didn't enjoy the food at all and for me it was a bit of a disappointment.

I love Dida's for a Sunday early evening wine, nibbles and catch up with friends. With their open fire and comfy leather couches it is so cozy and perfect to hide away from the wintery weather. They also had live music when we were there today which was awesome.

Love love love didas! The wine list is extensive and we thoroughly enjoyed the Pegasus bay they have as wine of the month and while the wait service is quick, the only thing that we would like improved is the rate at which the food comes out. It's a bit slow and we waited an hour for the tapas but with our bottle of wine we really didn't even mind so much. I do hope that it is something they look into though.

Honestly try anything there, they have a good variety and some were fantastic others were better than average so we can't find too much fault with the food.

I wish it were warmer inside though, in winter it was actually warmer outside than inside. Highly recommended.

AMBIANCE: Natural woods, the big round display cabinet and the gigantic chalk board make it feel authentic and of a different time.
SERVICE: Quick and precise
COFFEE: Strong and intense without tasting burnt or over extracted. Perfect temp.
FOOD: Not ordered
PRICE: Fair ($4 for the coffee)

OVERALL: Cant wait to return for food

Great place to go for tapas and drinks. Comfy couches, mood lighting, soothing background music, an extensive wine list and a great selection of tasty dishes. What more could you ask for!? We ordered a bunch of tapas to share which came out very promptly. I would highly recommend the croquettes, calante bread and calamari. A great dining experience, I will be back.

Went today for lunch and really enjoyed the tapas and sangria, great service and what a fab building. We will be back again, thanks didas

We went here on a Saturday night and we simply could not fault this place. Everything was perfect. Great food at a reasonable price, fantastic wine, unobtrusive service, and just an awesome atmosphere all round. Highly recommended

Went last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Great selection of wines and I am pleased to see all the boutique beers available, I just wish a lot of other places would take note and move away from the ' beer flavoured sparkling water' that the major breweries provide. Excellent food and some of the best tapas I have had. Staff very pleasant and helpful, we will definitely be back.

For many months my wife Jane and I have been visiting Dida's in Jervois Road. As ever we were greeted by Chris the congenial German manager. This time we started with out usual Peralada bubbles and went for the set tapas menu with accompanying wine recommendations. As usual the food and wine matching combination was superb!
Michael Pritchard
Charming staff, top food, healthy ingredients, reasonably priced, nifty location, classy clientele. What more do you want?

I ate there this morning, was greeted warmly by the manager, an energetic man who welcomed every customer in a similar friendly fashion. I was served an expertly prepared plate of scrambled eggs with attention to anything else I might like.

An exceptionally nice touch was that the chef must have 'bespoke' the meal just for me: I'm a biggish fellow, and I am convinced that he observed that and prepared the meal accordingly. Delightful.
All the wait staff I met were friendly, attentive, and obviously take pride in working there. One can see why.

I enjoyed several tasty tapas here, the food was great, the staff were helpful and friendly and the venue is a pleasure to be in.

They serve the best Tapas I have eaten, tapas are well balanced, full of flavour and simply great to eat. Prices are fair and the service was the only flaw keeping me from giving them full marks, unfortunately staff did not greet or acknowledge us and were bordering on being very rude. I would definately go back again for the food, if the owners could kick a few rude/disinterested backsides Didas would be just about perfect.

Best local bar in ponsonby. the cheapest also, tapas were delightful and good ambiance. huge wine list to accompany the great selection of tapas. Nos so sure about their attempts with Mexican food, so I stayed away from it. In general , didas is my local bistro and my friends love it to!

Sublime tapas plates. Best food I've eaten this month. The Artichokes stuffed with pistachio & black olive tapenade, settled in a "piquillo pepper dressing" were AMAZING. I mean A-MAZ-ING. Also in the running for top 5 dishes of the month (in my opinion), were the "MONTADITO VEGETAL"Capsicum, eggplant, olive salsa mounted on bread with feta & truffle oil. I was feeling greedy and couldn't resist the Trufas, that arrived as two dark chocolate truffles with raspberry powder, and two sublime balls of white chocolate & orange with hazelnut crumb. Deeelicious.

I was lunching, so didn't partake of the wines... but naturally, this place has a tremendous wine list.

For a winter lunch occasion, there's a nice fire down one end. But some other guy was hogging that spot. So I settled for the other long table nearer to the door. I felt that the restaurant space could be improved with more warm lighting... as it felt a bit dull when I walked in during daylight hours.

I have to also mention the beautifully designed and maintained bathrooms down below. They've got the lighting, the fragrances, and the very pretty wall decor just perfect in the 'ladies' room!

The food is the definite highlight of this place. I totally loved it.

The service was appalling, on arrival the only acknowledgement we got from the bald bar tender was him sliding over the menu’s. We were not greeted, or asked if we wanted to be seated at a table. All the waiters looked, and acted like they had just come from a funeral. Such a shame as the food is quite good, and so was the wine, but the terrible service overrides this.

I recently moved here from Sydney and this place has become my favourite local restaurant. Fantastic wine list by the glass and bottle. Polite and fast service. But the best thing about this place is the food - absolute 5 star tapas. With traditional selections such as patatas bravas and chorizo to chose from as well as more contemporary duck pancakes or wild boar meatballs - all are excellent quality. I've taken visitors from o/s here several times and they've been equally impressed.

On a recent Saturday had a thoroughly pleasant lunch there. Good selection of really tasty tapas and a wide range of wines by the glass to select from. Great ambiance both inside with the leather couches and outside with tables on the pavement where with good food, wine and company you can watch the world go by. Service perhaps needs to be a little more outgoing and able to anticipate your needs more - you tend to have to go looking for the staff. Overall, very warmly recommend Dida's to others seeking a relaxed and civilised watering hole.
Susan
Fantastic food, incredible selection of wine. Great atmosphere. We're definately coming back. Highly recommended

The food is excellent, although, I wouldn't want to be a strapping bloke on a fish and chip budget. Wine selection - probably one of the best in Auckland. Shame about the line up of the European zimmer frames for the old dudes of Herne Bay.... Parking: Congested.
