Review Kiwiyo - Auckland

Great fun making your own ice cream/sorbet Sunday. Lots of toppings to choose. A treat as it can get quite pricey.

Excellent frozen yogurt! Highly reccommended!
alessandra
amazing collection of yogurt and toppings, really yum and good pricing system

A good alternative for dessert rather than ice cream or boba tea. I think its healthier, too as it’s yogurt with different varieties of toppings
Enya BadIndieGamer
Awesome buffet of toppings and great flavours, also appreciate the very clear labels of what contains gelatine
Mansour Ganji
Good choice of you ice creams and toppings. Beautiful decor inside.
Teagan Vaughan
Good frozen yogurt and toppings.! Staff were kind will come back here for sure

My fav is the 🥭 with 🥥 toppings.
Vinod Vyas
Loved it, good choice of frozen yogurt and great choices of toppings, waffles and more. Friendly people, adequate sitting space, bang on Mission Bay. Use of plastic can be reduced.

Our must go ice cream shop whenever we come to Mission Bay! Always enjoy tasting different flavors of yogurt ice cream in the clean and tidy environment. Many varieties of the toppings too at reasonable price. Highly recommended!
Andy
Amazing ice cream parlour place! These guys never fail to impress and I usually come back for seconds. They have the great taste, the quality, and a huge range of flavours and toppings to choose from.

I love kiwio! The flavours always change so you never know what you might get! All the toppings and the cool atmosphere makes an awesome experience!

I reckon chocolate and marshmallow was one of the best flavours. The cherry sorbet and root beer flavours were not to my liking. All the other flavours were average. The sour worms were really stretchy and some lollies were rock hard as if they were taken out from the freezer but I guess that gives the whole dessert a nice contrast in texture when having it whole. Love these self serve dessert stores.

This place has a cockroach infestation. I witnessed multiple roaches crawling on the bench (unfortunately after eating) after staff seen us filming they swiped them away. Disgusting.
FoodWingNZ
I love how you get to make your own desert! The desert is also affordable, which is very good. I love the frozen yogurt because it is much creamier than things like ice cream.

Wow kiwiyo brings back memories, this one by mission bay has a pretty good variety of topping choices, it’s also by the beach which is convenient!

Dessert- 7.5/10
Service-7.5/10
Aesthetics-7.5/10

Terrible service. The girl working was on her phone the whole time and never spoke to us. Also the berries were not fresh. Really put me off going back as this was my first time going to a kiwiyo

I use to go here all the time 4 years ago- it's still quite nice but now when I do go I feel like the fruit and candy in the pick your own after the yoghurt doesn't seem to be that fresh. There was once fruit flies buzzing around... gross!

They offer a wide range of flavours of yoghurt and toppings to choose from. Had the regular yoghurt and let a 7 years old choose the flavour and toppings while I ordered an Oreo sundae over the counter. I must say my son chose well as it was a simple with nice combination of toppings on top of the yoghurt. However, the sundae was average and better to get a regular sundae in some popular fast food chain so a little disappointed. The staff is friendly. Generally, a great dining experience therefore will still come back.

Came here on a festive Friday summer night at around 8:30 after dinner!

I got a medium and a combination of Pomegranate Sorbet, Mango and Real Fruit Sorbet, Cherry Sorbet, and Plain yoghurt. For toppings I just stuck with nuts (I did mention in my previous reviews I love nuts right?!) and 2 kiwi fruit slices...I could have been more adventurous but I was too full. Their selection of toppings is really wide! Couldn’t choose almost hahaha.

It was good! Although the Sorbet being water-based melted really quickly. Wish I got more of the plain yoghurt instead! The crunch of the nuts saved it for me.
But all in all frozen yoghurt is a nice and lighter (healthier) alternative for dessert!

Food: 8/10
Price: 9/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7/10

Came here last night for dessert. We purchased a range of items:small and large sizes of kiwiyo yoghurt mixes, milkshake and a waffle. Easy access, clean and good laid out environment. Appreciated the little foot stool so my niece could access the sweet/sauces stand herself. There are several seating areas:On the front pavement with colourful chairs, a bar stand and inside. Also found the fact they had a bathroom much appreciated. Overall great place to stop for a little dessert outing.

The most impressive thing since I walked into the store is service from a cashier.I was totally confused because I went there for the first time. Then,he called me and introduced how this shop work.
He was so friendly and willingly to help his customer.

Besides, the price is reasonable and toppings are fresh and variety.

Glad that I went there
Eggster Eats
Had the vanilla frozen yogurt as a little treat. I chose the small cup and helped myself to the toppings. Was tasty as a small treat and I felt that it was filling. My frozen yogurt came to a total of $3.50 which was surprisingly cheap. Would definitely love to come here again!

a good place for healthy dessert.

Was here few weeks back with friends, desserts places are generally on my list and when its about healthy dessert it becomes a top priority. Well Yogurt ice creams have taken a pretty nice market space, but with kiwi yo it all together a different experience.
When you enter in to the place for the 1st time you can find yourself in a place with a lot of wao factor but a bit confused until someone take your attention and explain you the things. what you need to do is serve yourself from the flavors put around into the cup, add your favorite candy's, sauces and sprinkle some colored chocolate vermicelli and give them at the counter and they will weigh for you.
They tell you the exact cost after the weight, so just make sure in excitement of serving your self you do not pour too much that make is heavy enough for your pockets.
well the place is well located and have a nice attraction, so a recommended place, weigh and pay :)

I came with a friend last year and enjoyed every moment of it. So many flavours to choose from and I almost dropped the cup because I put so much in there.
Stef
I like coming here as when i get a nutella waffle and ask for extra nutella; ( because nutella is amazing) I obviously (visually) get given extra, therefore making me a happy person :) yummmmmyyy
Sam Papworth
Just amazing! Great choice of flavours and loads of toppings to choose from! The price can definitely creep up on you but as an occasional treat who cares! Will definitely be back again, loved it!
Kaaaaaailah
personally I think they need more selection with their toppings and sauces , and sometimes the ice cream flavours are boring . However I do like this place , its very tidy . Has helpful happy staff ☺️
Ryan
Pretty standardised with the usual rotating fortnightly flavours like salted caramel, chocolate, birthday cake etc.

Like that you can self serve and that you can weight it yourself so you don't get a shock at the counter. The atmosphere at this one can be a bit stale especially with so many nice places on the strip, it does get quiet.

I had my first ever froyo from here and needless to say, it got me hooked! This branch is one of the originals before the huge hype of frozen yoghurt took over the city. They have all the best flavours, and a awesome selection of toppings and sauces. This place can be crazy busy during a hot day, everyone flocks here for something to cool down with. Although the line can be long, it usually goes through relatively fast. I find that ordering a cone over a cup can actually be pretty cost effective, since you get to eat your ‘container’ as well :)

I'm a frozen yoghurt addict. No, seriously. I remember this one time I checked my bank statement and I died inside when I added up how much I had spent on frozen yoghurt that month. Over $300 of hard earned money on frozen yoghurt deliciousness. I got over it.

Mission Bay is a little far from me and there's a kiwiyo down my road. But when I feel like going on a mission, this KiwiYo provides. Although it's far, I'd have to say that this KiwiYo branch is probably the best.
Hoori
I love the taste of ice cream which ha variety of amazing flavours and very light and not sour like other kind of yogurt ice cream, the staff are very cool and friendly. I love it when you have freedom to try and taste to decide while no one is watching you and forcing to decide.
HJ
The ultimate dessert fix! I love the freedom you have to fill your cup or cone with whatever you fancy. Huge selection of lollies, biscuits, fruits, sauces, nuts (the list goes on) to choose from.. But it's easy to over do it, so be warned! And it's priced on weight rather than per cup. Good variety of frozen yoghurt flavours, which changes all the time but, I'm a fan of candy floss and mango.

My family and I absolutely love the wide range of flavour options available at KiwiYo! It's our favourite place to go every time we visit Auckland. It never disappoints our high expectations!
Sheena
I absolutely LOVE frozen yoghurt! If we're in Mission Bay for dessert, I'd much rather head to KiwiYo than Movenpick though I'm the only one in my group that would!

KiwiYo has so many different flavours and they constantly keep changing them! This means that every time I go they'll have different flavours for me to try and every time is a different experience altogether. Sometimes I feel like fruit and top up my frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit, whereas sometimes if I'm feeling naughty I'll opt for lollies and sweets as my toppings! They've recently added little flavored popping balls which hold yoghurt inside and they burst in your mouth! Something you normally can get at a bubble tea shop. This was a lovely addition to my fruit froyo!

There's also a photobooth here which I used my first time here! It uploads the photos to their Facebook page which you can then tag yourselves!

Kiwiyo also has a loyalty system where you get points for every purchase and it all adds up to a free frozen yoghurt I believe? Love it!

I like to have kiwi yo on a hot summers afternoon. Lately I've been having it on the rainy winter nights. I like how you can try the flavours that they have that day before you load up the container with them. I've noticed recently that they don't change up the flavours as much as they used to- or maybe I'm just going back on days where the flavours are the same. Either way enjoyable ice-cream great for the whole family and friendly staff
Victoria
Really big KiwiYo, they do a range of extras I haven't seen at other KiwiYo's including salads and juices. The best in Summer as it's a bit more casual compared to the other cafes on the strip.
Dessert Lover
The frozen yoghurt is really bad here, I don't think theres any yoghurt in it to be honest. It comes out really soft and by the time you put your toppings it's melted. They do have a large variety of toppings but I prefer to have very little and enjoy the frozen yoghurt taste. Would only go for the lollies and chocolate.
Jess Pendergrast
I love going to kiwiyo in the summer for a refreshing sweet icecream. Over summer there is usually a line going out the door because it's so popular. I love the variety of flavours and toppings and I always choose something different each time.
The only disappointment is that it is slightly expensive for what it is.
If you are in the area and after a sweet treat then check out KiwiYo.

Interesting place. Their flavours are really nice - both dairy based and sorbets. Plain Mango yosmoothie is great. Waffles are amazing. Will keep going.

If you just want a nice walk on the beach after dinner and have something sweet and refreshing after and not break the bank; stopping in at KiwiYo is a nice way to finish it off. Great for all ages, this place is always humming, whichever time I come. We went later in the evening around 9pm, and it was still very busy. If you have time, its a great idea to taste the new flavours first...we usually take away, or sit on the outside seats if they're not busy, and watch the world go by.
I noticed last night, the italian restaurant next door to KiwiYo was holding a cooking class, and will def find out about this, it looked like great fun! (Andrea Restaurant I think it was)

This little gem absolutely worth trying out. I find the mango sorbet particularly nice, bit pricey though.

Although it seems similar yoghurt stores popping up everywere in town. With the beautiful bay view and busy bars surrounded, this is a good spot to catch up with friends in the night. Well,I'd like to try out their waffle next time.

I have been trying out all the new fro yoghurt places.
Yoghurt Culture is the worst the fro yo tastes bitter, like the taste in your mouth when you do a sick burp.
Yoghurt Story is not as bitter tasting, but they have dumb toppings, mostly all lollies
Kiwi Yo is by far the best, their fro yo tsates like ice cream, they offer the bitter or tart yoghurt fro yo as well and they have way better toppings, like cream and custard and fruit and lollies and syrups.. Everything is covered as well for snotty kids who cough all over stuff
Guys, there is only one TRUE fro yo place and that's the one all the others are trying to copy... Kiwi Yo
all the way
IMO

IM ADDICTED TO KIWI YO !!! It's to die for haha. I go there nearly 5 times a week. It's sooo cheap and there are a variety of flavours and toppings to choose from :) The staff are super duper friendly. I tell all my friends and family about it, and.. What do you know? THEY LOVE IT ! :)
Clayton Curnow
Not sure what some of these reviews are on about as I have been 3 times now and LOVE Kiwiyo. My new favourite desert place, staff upbeat, great toppings, yoghurt tasted amazing. Cant wait for next time..
Alison Buchanan
Talk about over rated! what a huge disappointment this is not frozen yoghurt, it is translucent slime that is over priced. Think I will just go buy a Mcflurry next time I want something similar. Visited the Takapuna store hoping it might have improved, but just as bad.
Ashley Kerlin
I went back to kiwiyo the other day to take my son there as a treat even though I told myself I would never go back after my first experience. I must say, they have totally improved with the toppings, thank god but still this is not real frozen yogurt. I'm from the states and grew up eating frozen yogurt and this is a cheap, wanna be, icy, tasteless version! The different flavours do not even taste like what they are supposed to and it is way over priced. Yogurt story in the city is real frozen yogurt, go there it better yet just go a couple doors down to movenpick! Get it right kiwi yo or don't call it frozen yogurt!

Had my first experience at Kiwiyo about a year ago and I've regularly been taking my friends and family there for dessert ever since. It's an amazing place to go to. Staff are friendly and helpful, the place is colourful and welcoming, prices have been good, apart from the first time I went when I was a bit greedy and it got to $8 which is still pretty cheap in comparison to other places in Auckland. In my honest opinion the only thing I'd complain about would be the line which gets quite long from time to time, but I guess that's what you have to expect when a company is as successful as this one is with it's great tasting yoghurt, especially on hot days. Even so, the wait is worth it, the yoghurt tastes great. All I have left to say now is that the people whose negative reviews about it that I've read are either delusional, attention seeking, always negative, or have a very strange view of life. This place is fantastic, apart from the line that I mentioned before and even my two extremely fussy nephews absolutely love it.
Tina Lee
All POSITIVE at my end and also check out the latest article on this company on NZBusiness FEB issue. Goes to show how this place is completely into giving it's customers an authentic experience via great customer service & an excellent product. Other self-service places don't even come close at this stage. http://www.themarketingbureau.co.nz/_blog/Stories/post/KiwiYo_-_A_Social_Media_Success_Story/

So bad! Loads of toppings but nothing special. The 'yogurt' does not taste like yogurt at all. Just tasted like sugary ice. The sign on the machine said that mine was cookie dough but it came out purple! Not a good experience.
Steph Bell
Horrible! There is no way it can be classed as frozen yogurt. Agree with many others who have been to the original chains in the States such as Yogurtland (which Kiwi Yo is trying to be like) and this place does not even come close. All the flavours taste artificial and you can't taste yogurt. Even the 'plain' flavour does not taste like yogurt (weird). I couldn't say it tasted like flavoured ice cream either. Nice idea to try and set up this a chain like this in NZ but the owners really need to improve it.
Gary Macalincag
Nice staff but unfortunately, yoghurt doesn't taste like yoghurt at all. Too fake tasting and probably not very good for you...
Sarah
Delicious! Okay, it may not be that 'healthy' for you, but it's a nice treat to have once in a while when in mission bay. There are lots of different flavors and toppings, personally enjoyed the vanilla. It's reasonably priced. Only annoying thing is that the store is small and a bit cramped and busy but I guess that's a good thing.
Karen Maidens
This is a fantastic place to take your kids, my sons 4 and 9 both thought this place was heaven, they loved it and are begging to go back already, the kids loved that this was a self serve shop and loved using the icecream machines, and picking their toppings which there is just so many too choose from and then to pick their sauces and make it all them selves was the best treat ever. They loved the chocolate icecreams they chose, and my mango mixed with vanilla was delicious. i loved the toppings and sauce and thought this was a novel idea to be able to make your own icecreams, the shop is inviting, the colours and many choices is fantastic, love love this shop, and it is now my sons favourite place, we will be back for sure. If you want to impress your kids bring them here.
Firecracker
Great location, shop outlook and display is excellent, huge variety of toppings, friendly service.

I gave it only two stars because it lacks the basic requirement of any frozen yoghurt store:

Frozen yoghurt needs to TASTE like frozen yoghurt.

Having been impressed all the way up to the point when I sat down ready to dig in, I was utterly disappointed by the time I took a second spoonful of what was essentially, a blend of artificial flavouring and sloshed ice.

It's not enough just to have a shop located at the heart of mission bay with pretty lighting and decor to attract teenagers. The very product that this place is selling needs to taste GOOD.

Probably a good idea for the owners to check out the other froyo stores in town to see what frozen yoghurt really tastes like.

Excellent Service. Was fun but would definitely recommend that they keep changing the menu, yogurt etc etc often depending on seasons.

5 stars because there was absolutely nothing to complain about and good service.

KIU!

I am never much for humble pie but i was dragged back to this store by an enthusiastic friend of mine after a really lack luster first experience. Well i am happy to give credit when credit is due and KiwiYo have totally upped their game. The service was super attentive and up beat, the new layout made things faster but the product which i first didnt like when they opened was super tasty this time around. I agreed before about the product being sugary & non yogurty but i tried the fruit flavors and the plain and they both had a nice yogurt tang. Practice makes perfect and im happy to say they are now on the right track. Ill be back.
Rebecca
What a yumy ice cream, and there are so many variety of toppings, candies, sauces and all the extra yummy things we can add to the ice cream.... I really love it!!
I would go everyday for dessert, but gotta watch the extra pounds, and I can easily go crazy helping my self on the self service....
Will keep going back, its soooo gooood!
Olivia Winston
Wow, what a brilliant, yummy place this is! Helpful staff offered me free-tasters of frozen yoghurt/ice-cream, as they'd just changed the flavours over.

SOOOO yum! The variety of toppings is just so good. I especially enjoyed combining soft, juicy pop-in-your-mouth berries, with crunchy fudgy bits, and a sprinkling of nuts, with a good dose of choc-crunchie-bar bits, jaffas, and... so it goes on.

An absolute treat, and I managed to keep the price under $5 for the lot. (I chose a medium sized cup).

Definitely a favourite place for a sweet treat. I told my partner to bring our daughter down for a treat, and he reported that she was in seventh heaven in that place. Her eyes were popping out of her head with wonder!
Josh
Had KiwiYo for the first time the other day and being from America, all I can say is WOW!!!!! Just as good as what you find in the US! And their american product....Shit! Amazing!!!!! I tried that Movenpick up the road and that other Story Yoghurt place man, I could only eat there once because it was so freakin expensive! KiwiYo all the way!
Hayley Rean
So so disappointing. Not good quality froyo with fake tasting flavours, a terrible choice of toppings, like fruit strait out of a can, and budget cereals, and way way way overpriced. A great idea to take on the self serve froyo store that is so popular in the US, but it could have been done so much better. Either do froyo properly, or just stick to ice cream.
Loaann Kim Llee
Will be my 1st and last time!. I was sooo disappointed from the first taste. Tried the mango and cherry frozen yogurt It tasted so artificial. Way over priced!!! I've been to a few of these places overseas. Doesn't even come close. But looks attractive from the outside, guess its good for kids and teeny boppers.
Brad
Mate this shop is only good for the kids and teenagers! We went there to try it. Im a frozen yoghurt addict. Trust me, it has no yoghurt in it. Product quality sux. I will never go there again or reccomend it to anyone who knows what is frozen yoghurt. Its simply ice , too much sugar and artificial flavours.
Brittany
When i walked into Kiwi Yo for the first time i was amazed at all the colors everywhere and the sounds of people laughing, A friendly staff member came up to me straight away ( she could probably tell it was my first time) and she instructed me how to do everything. i love how everything is self serve and such fun! I never thought having Frozen Yogurt would be so awesome! it was so cheap! I will definitely tell all my friends about this place I love the concept and how there are so many toppings available it tasted great I would recommend it to everyone!
NYNB
First time trying a self service frozen yoghurt store. Wouldn't really want to go back unless friends decide to go there as it's a bit over priced and the toppings aren't that awesome even with all the variety. It's also a bit out of my way for me. Service is good as the staf is friendly and helpful, nice of the manager/boss to give us a free sample of one of the flavours the first time we went there.
Sol
OMG! Disgusting!!!! I was sooo excited when I saw this place as we had just been to America and we could not stop going to the famous "Yogurtland" over there....We thought this would be similar but it wasn't!
Way overpriced....canned fruit and the taste of the yoghurt was horrible and artificial....not a nice experience :-(
Taina
I was extremely happy with my KiwiYo experience.

I walked in looking confused as it was my first time there.
The lady who worked there immediately came up to me and explained everything

After choosing chocolate yoghurt topped with nerdy nerds, and hundreds and thousands, and sherbet, and chocolate chips - I was ready to pay what i thought would be the expensive transaction.
However it was only $1.90 ! I was amazed! I thought frozen yoghurt (especially in Mission Bay) was really expensive - especially with all the topping options - I've never seen so many in my life!
The location is the best - right infront of the beach.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and highly recommend it :)
Anna Willenbacher
I bought a Deal Voucher for $6.00 worth and today, when I tried to redeem it, I had the most terrible costumer service ever. I just wanted to know how to use the voucher the best way, and baby, they had a problem with me not wanting to pay additionally. I was really almost shouted at and the young girl behind the counter was clearly not interested in helping me, if I didn't intend to spent more money, than the coupon was valid for. Anyhow if the frozen yoghurt would have been nice, probably I wouldn't be writing the lines, but compared to New York and the rest of America, what they call Frozen Yoghurt, disgusting, the flavours were completely artificial and the additives they must put in there recipes just awful. If anybody out there wants quite good Frozen Yogurt, they sell some at count down, look for the black and orange container, pretty nice.

Kiwiyo was not difficult to find at Mission Bay, the glowing white sign is hard to miss. We saw it on our way to the fish & chips shop, and decided to get some after. From outside, the place looks great; there was a TV up the front showing a few of the deals, which was unecessary since we had already decided that we would go. The inside looked neat, it was very clean and had changing rainbow neon light strips illuminating the bottoms of the walls and counters. They had an elevated pattio outside the shop with some stools and tables to sit on, as well as a few tables on the side of the footpath.

While we were waiting for other people to finish doing their own yoghurts, we were greeted by an extremely enthusiastic young girl who was extremely helpful. We had no idea how to get started, since it's a 'self serve' shop, unlike other ice cream places in the area. She gave us a quick run-through of the system, and we were surprised to learn that the place actually rotates it's flavours every week! The girl even offered us free samples of the flavours since we couldn't decide which ones to get!

The displays above the machines were very helpful. The flavour was clearly shown, as well as ALL the nutritional information. It was marvellously presented and I was impressed. I eventually decided on getting a mixture of the caramel cream and cheesecake flavours. There were heaps of toppings to choose from, I went with strawberries, blackberries, granola, chopped almonds, and a dash of maple syrup. In the end the total purchase for five people was about $35, which was a tad cheaper than I thought it would be.

My reaction, on first bite, was to say "Oh my god, this is great!!". The yoghurt was exactly as I had hoped; creamy, yet not too rich as to taste like icecream, and not too sweet. It was delicious. I would definitely go there the next time I go down to Mission Bay. Unfortunately, I was told that it was the only one it Auckland! I'm going to have to go to Mission Bay more often!

In summary, I recommend strongly recommend this place. The atmosphere there is amazing- the decor is stunning and the staff are extremely friendly and willing to help. And, most importantly the product is impeccable and good value.

Loved every bite! I had the cappuccino and vanilla and enjoyed it very much. The kids have asked to go back and will definitely take our friends along for the next visit.
The variety of flavours is huge! Can't wait to taste the banana cream pie.

After an average meal at Ruan Thai, we came to kiwiyo for desserts. Amazing place. Variety of flavours...even more variety of toppings...VFM. Loved it
