Review Jami Traditional Korean Restaurant - Auckland

Kin Cheung
A spacious restaurant that serves authentic Korean food. There are the cheaper and tasty meals that will fill your tummy, if you have a more generous budget, the bbq would be a good option. The service is good too, although some of the people don’t understand English very well, just need to speak closer and a bit patient when ordering.

My friends and I had an amazing experience at this Korean BBQ store last night! Everything was absolutely wonderful. The quality of the meat was outstanding - tender and cooked to perfection. The service was top-notch! The staff was humorous, attentive, and provided excellent recommendations for the food. They grilled every meat to the perfect time for us to enjoy. I highly recommend this place to all BBQ and Korean Food lovers. Well worth the money! Dishes recommend: 🥩Beef Short Rib 🥩Rib Finger 🥩Marinated Short Rib

Service was superb! All the staff are so nice to explain and help with the cooking of the meat. Food is delicious, especially the bbq where they use charcoal. Overall, we enjoyed the experience in dining here.

Highly recommend this place, the food was fantastic, the charcoal grilled chicken and the charcoal grilled pork are amazing. We also ordered the combination platter amazing meat high quality and super tasty. I also want to shout out Jung Soo! He made our night with his great sense of humor and high level of customer service

First time I wished there were more stars to give! Superb dinner experience. Best Korean BBQ I've had. And the meat is top quality, you can really taste it. Very welcoming service, we were blown away by the attention and care. What a great place!!!

We got combination bbq, pancake, cold noodles, and chicken stew for 6 girls, we’re chocka and the food is absolutely the best I’ve had in a while

My favourite Korean BBQ in Auckland! We are always welcomed by friendly faces. The service is excellent and the food quality is exceptional! Side dishes are the best! Highly recommended 👌

The place is big, which can accommodate a big group, and the staff were friendly. The food was great with a variety of refillable side dishes. However, the place was quite smokey as it is an enclosed area with no exhaust fans to be seen.

Been here before but first time trying their kbbq here. Spacious and comfortable place, we picked here mostly because of this. Typically kbbq place are often crowded and if it is a buffet then it is not as clean and not so much social distancing. The quality is quite good, although I have to admit quantity a little on the low side. We had the pork scotch and the marinated beef rib as well as a seafood pancake. The pancake was super yummy, would definitely get it again. Service was quite good, the owner keep coming to cook for us, but I actually would rather do it myself as I enjoy the cooking. Anyway, the grill is also changed regularly and it is the charcoal style and not the gas. Price was on the higher side, but the experience is nice. So if you are looking for quality and comfort, this place is a good choice.

Jungsoo is an amazing server, understands his customers. accommodating and very hospitable. We were seated in a private room and catered to every half hour, the food was great and the staff were greater. Must see establishment.

The restaurant has a nice family ambience. It was quite a busy dinner time and service can be improved. We ordered the Pork BBQ and it was well seasoned. The first set was done by the service staff but we have to DIY for our second set. Other dishes are tasty and served piping hot. Reservations recommended at weekends as the restaurant was full.

If you are looking premium Korean BBQ spot near Wairau Valley then this is the place for you. All the banchan (side dishes) there was really solid. Nothing to complain about. Korean BBQ uses a charcoal grill which takes your normal KBBQ to the next level. The BBQ meat was also really high quality. Overall KBBQ food rating: 7.8/10 Ordered items: - Short rib 👍 - pork belly 👍 - kimchi stew Follow my socials (IG, YT and TikTok) for more indepth food reviews: kiwi_friedchicken

Please leave the windows open or install stonger fans. Its full of BBQ oil and smell in the restaurant. Tasty food. A little too expensive for the food too. Enjoyed the dinner with my friends though hence 4 stars.

I had the best naengmyeon and seafood pancake of my life. It’s quite difficult to get the flavour through especially in cold soup but this blew me away. I’ve requested for the spicy sauce to be separated because I’m sharing it with my 5year old. He gave a 2 thumbs up and said the cold broth was so good! I assume the spiciness would mask the sweetness of the broth but, it actually enhanced it! It was so so good. Pancake was full of ingredients, each mouthful has squid prawns or mussel. I came wanting to try the bbq but I have to order min 2 different type of meat. The server even came over and checked if I would like to have more banchan. Oh the banchan was amazing as well. Not the cheapest, but it’s worth every cent. This is a very satisfying and happy meal!! Will be back!!!

Expensive but tasty. Great authentic Korean food. Wasn't too sweet like a lot of places in town. Nice atmosphere as well! Gives decent amount of sides as well.

We had the most incredible meal at Jami last night, we ordered a range of meat for Korean BBQ, and had the honour of the head chef serving us. He explained the different cuts, some of which we had never heard, and how to best eat them. It was truly a special, gourmet experience. I can't wait to go back, highly recommended.

Delicious Korean bbq. The food was difficult to fault, great flavors and authentic! They moved our table and forgot to inform the servers, so our food went to someone else. But they fixed that quickly and kept apologising while also gave us some extra meat. 100% would return!

Great Korean food, friendly staff. Will come back again.

Since there are trillions of Korean restaurants in Auckland nowadays, my expectations are high. Taste once, move on to the next. But Jami, Jami Jami. I would love to come back and taste the whole menu.

The highlight, of course the chargrilled chicken with BBQ sauce! As listed on their front page. Smoky, slightly spicy, juicy, finger licking good. Best Korean chicken easily!

The classic spicy beef soup is not your average quality ones that all tastes the same. The soup is super flavourful, Chucky strips of beef, generous amount of been sprouts and mushrooms. The wild rice is a nice touch! I'm happy.

The chef even came out and seasoned our soup which we though it was very thoughtful of him. And the staff worked there was very helpful and friendly.

One very pleasant Korean dinning experience it was. Highly recommended.

It’s always the best choice when we are on the shore! Sophisticated, well presented and delicious! Great value for money! The best Korea restaurant in Auckland!

When you are making a booking for side rooms, make sure you call them and check, especially if it is for a special occasions. They tend to double book at times.

Jami has gone downhill since it has opened. Every time I come back every essence of Jami is deteriorating little by little.

Despite reservation we were seated between two crowded table even though rest of the room was empty.

It took a while trying to wave someone down to try order.

The tea they bought was half full.

The owner was bringing out extra side dishes for his friends blatantly while ignoring the rest of people trying to get his attention.

Do. Not ever get the seafood pancake. It’s oily as.

The service is extremely slow. The portion size is extremely small and side dishes wise they are extremely stingy. side dish refills? Don’t even think about it. Best of luck trying to wave someone down.

I’m embarrassed now to take any guests to Jami. Before I’ve taken multiple guests, both korean and kiwis.

It’s below average korean food for expensive price and extremely poor service.

Came across while shopping around and after meal I thought I better leave a review for people in its vicinity. The food was excellent and the price is very reasonable. Never seen a Korean restaurant so oriented on serving for the customers. As an Asian foodie who lives too far away to come here often, you are very lucky to be around such sweet treat.

It was really good!!!!

Came here on valentines day with my cucumber. We ordered the charcoal grilled pork belly and the charcoal beef. The pork was very good, little bit chewy but the flavour with the charcoal undertone was well done. However the beef excels the pork, it was very tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. I would give the beef 5/5. The side dishes was ok and the service was average. I would highly recommend the beef to anyone who comes for a visit.

Taste - 4.5/5
Service - 3/5
Ambiance - 3.5/5

Jami is a Korean restaurant where I would highly recommend for those who would like to try genuine Korean food. The fact that they do not use any MSG or any other chemicals to make their food taste nice.

Really good :)

Jami has a good authentic korean style of interior.
Also I can see that foods come with Korean style dishes which looks traditional and wow.
Foods were great ! This place is good to bring people to try real Korean foods 😍😍

Love the deco. Dark wood and nice lighting too.

Plenty of space and food is good too.

This place serves delicious Korean food, and the menu is not as expensive as you'd think considering the quality and size of the food. For example their set menu is priced $25-30 on average but it includes many traditional side dishes + rice + soup along with your main. We ordered the braised pork kimchi from the set menu and it was plenty for two. We also ordered the Seafood Tofu Soup (not a set menu but still comes with rice) and the portion was pretty big and so much tofu as well, we think they use more than one whole tofu :)
Reccomend this restaurant if you have visitors or for those keen to try out Korean food experience.
The tables and chairs were slightly uncomfortable ( I kept hitting my leg on an awkward part sticking out from the table/hitting my back bone against the chair) into these but still the atmosphere is clean and spacious.
Service is genuinely friendly especially the guy who seems to be the owner.

I have no issues with the food but the packaging on takwawa meals . A takeaway for 2 people and we had 8 separate plastic containers. This is completely over the top and unnecessary. Maybe drop your price for takeaway and don't include all the side dishes if you can't source better ways to package them

Very yummy food. Went for lunch. Food come a bit slow. Environment great. Service is okay. Taste between pork and chicken are similar though. But still like them. Highly recommended.

First time dining at Jami with the family. We booked a table for 9 people to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
Great authentic Korean flavours just wasn’t really for me. Everything tasted sweet and not much flavour and a bit too much oil used in some dishes.
Service was good but there’s room for improvement. The waitress didn’t check up on us after all the meal were served if we needed anything else. Other than that it was a nice clean family restaurant with good decor.

Overall score:
Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5
Food 4/5
Value for money 4/5

I liked the big dining space with enough personal space between solidly made tables. The seat was very comfortable to sit on.

The attendant lady was very polite.

We ordered Jami Set Menu, Fried 🐙 and Seafood & Spring Onion Pancake.

The set menu comes with a variety of small dishes which is fun to share having many different tastes. However the kimchi flavor seemed not fermented enough.

The fried octopus dish was made of one 3rd of octopus and two 3rd of onions. 🐙 was chewy.

The seafood pancake was big and fluffy with a crisp base, very nice.

Really good Korean food and restaurant ambience in general compared to other Korean restaurants

Good choice to go for with friends.

Soup and beef are recommended to order.

Authentic Korean restaurant with a great ambience. Considerable amount of side dishes which were all very delicious. The fried squid had a great mix of spices too, but would have preferred if they used squid legs instead of the pineapple cuts.

Food: 8/10
Food presentation: 6/10
Service: 7/10
Location: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Price $30 per person

You know an asian place is good when most of the diners there are of that ethnicity. My friend and I got the dishes that came with 6 side dishes each so we ended up with a feast for two people. I had the slow cooked pork belly and it was super tender and soft. The cabbage pieces in there was a bit too big to chew properly though. The seafood stir fry had a range of seafood from mussels to shrimp to octopus. Highly recommended and seemed very clean and tidy.

Came in for a dinner tonight with family friends. Ordered some fried chicken and pancakes. The fried chicken was really crispy and chicken didn't taste dry at all. The korean pancakes were tasted amazing as usual but this one was a little bit too oily for me. Side dishes tasted average. Mashed pumpkin was also served as one of them. The seaweed tasted salty but was one of my favourite side dishes there!

As a Korean I can confidently say Jami offers authentic Korean restaurant experience positioned mid-upper level quality but service from staff and attentiveness can be improved. I’d take someone special if I wanna treat nice Korean food.

I really like this Korean restaurant, especially their charcoal bbq beef Rib. Their portion are larger than others.environment is not bad, space is not crowded. the time I have been here is Saturday, really busy.it took 2 long time to get one of my dishes, maybe they forgot it,after telling them, they apologized and gave me one more egg as compensation.

Some of the Best Korean food in Auckland! The set menu is great if you've never had Korean before. Try the charcoal cooked meats and the whole fried chicken.
Ming
This place has a more upmarket vibe than your normal Korean restaurant. Prices were comparatively higher as well but unfortunately didn't translate to better taste. Beef rib soup was the best of the bunch.
Katerina
Came there couple of times. One of the up market Korean restaurants. Very nice inside and clean. Service is good but once I had inexperienced waiter with no English at all. The food is delicious and nicely presented. They using good quality produce so they aren't cheap eats but portions are good size. Loved Galbi there and charcoal beef. Side dishes were good size and delicious. Easy parking outside the place. Will come back to try soup dishes!
Jenfoodie
The taste was good. Actually I don’t like lots of seasonings such like artificial stuff. I heard that they don’t use any seasonings. I could feel natural taste.
I was impressed.
Enzyme Prroo
Their dishes are diverse and clean. Marinated pork set is very flavoury and side dishes are abundant. Great value and ready service. One of the better restaurants out there.

'I bit into a rock that was in my side dish- the aftermath was infuriating'.

My family and I dined here an hour ago, and we are all furious at our dining experience today. We were initially thinking of going to the restaurant next door to Jami, but it was closed for today. I haven't been to Jami for a couple of years (the first few times was when it first opened) and we were quite neutral about this place- we decided to go in and have another go. I noticed that price range was slightly higher than what other typical Korean restaurants would charge- we aren't too fussy when it comes to the cost, provided that we have a pleasant meal.

4 dishes were ordered
- Charcoal grilled spicy pork belly set menu
- Bibimbap
- Fried pork with veggies
- Seafood and spring onion pancake.

Our family is Korean so we know what to expect when it comes to Korean food. My family members thought that the bibimbap and the fried pork with veggies was okay (you can't really go wrong with these dishes). I shared the charcoal spicy pork belly and the seafood pancake with my mum. The seafood pancake looked quite different to what we expected- looked extremely oily but crispy. It looked like there were three layers to the pancake- the bottom was just the white pancake batter, the middle had lots of eggs, and the top had some spring onions/chives that were brown. The pancake was very thick and it was very bland- we could not taste the seafood at all. All of our family members tested it and unanimously agreed that it was the worst seafood pancake we had.

My experience went downhill when I bit into a rock in our Japchae (glass noodle side-dish that came with my charcoal pork belly set menu). It was hidden inside and I only noticed when my teeth crunched into it. I told my family members as soon as this happened. My mother called the waiter and explained the situation, who informed the owner. The owner was two metres away from our table at the reception area- just doing his thing, not occupied with customers. What would have been ideal was for the owner to come to us and apologise, ask whether I was okay. However, this did not happen. After about 5 to 10 minutes, the owner came to our table with a small plate of Japchae in his hands- he did not look very apologetic. He did say sorry and told us that this plate should be fine. This was the worst possible way for an owner to approach an upset customer who just bit into a rock in the food they served. FYI, we did not touch the japchae that the owner brought to our table.

My family were all infuriated- the food was average at best (the seafood pancake was the worst I ever had at a restaurant), and the service was below average. I mentioned earlier that this place charges more than regular Korean restaurants. This place is so not worth paying the extra. Utterly unpleasant experience and extremely poor service.

In case you are wondering, my molar feels quite sensitive after biting into that rock.
Mary Underwood
What a great restaurant. Only thing I would say is it's slightly more expensive than other Korean restaurants but overall the service and food was above average. I had a beef dish and my friend had the spicy chicken thigh. All the side dishes and kimchi really make a difference.

Pretty restaurant, yum dishes and sweet services, although the food is a little to much, but the prize is really reasonable I will recommend it to my friends

love the decor there. friendly staff n service. food also good. fried squid quite yum n would be better if the portion could be much more. will go again.

It is always difficult for me to choose between cold noodles and bibim cold noodles. What a delicious worry! Which one is a better choice? Hhh

Today I visited Jami restaurant with 6 of my family members. We ordered various menus. When the food came out, our first impression of the food was AMAZING and obviously the taste was AWESOME too. The atmosphere of the restaurant was luxurious and I was able to enjoy a comfortable meal thanks to the friendly waitress.

IT WAS SUCH A FANTASTIC DINNER!!! Thank you JAMI~

This restaurant deserve to get 5. Needless to say, the food was perfect. I really loved the fact that they do not use any condiments unlike other restaurants and I was really surprised that it still taste amazing!!! The service was perfect as well. They were really friendly and polite. I really recommend this restaurant to others. Thank You Jami for the great dinner~!!!

Would love to give this place a 4 but their service let them down. Love the deco and the ambience. However, their waitresses seemed inexperienced and ‘clumsy’. First of all, when we were seated we weren’t served any drinks and provided with the menu. We had to alert them to get the menu and helped ourselves to the free tea. Then, it took a while for the first dish to arrive which seemed lukewarm to us. We found it strange that they did not serve us the side dishes first like most Korean restaurants do. Then the side dishes arrived with one dish short. When the second dish arrived, the waiter (may be the manager) suddenly took our first dish (chicken) away without telling us why. Then he came back with a heating element below the dish. That was when we realised that the dish should be served heated with this heating element! Enough about the service. In terms of food, have to admit that the grilled chicken dish was good but the eel dish was a bit tough and again kind of lukewarm. I can see that this place would be good for family event as they have separate rooms to accommodate big groups and their tables are actually quite ‘home’ like. We will come back again to try the other dishes as they ‘look’ really nice and some of the reviews here actually raves about them. Hopefully their service will be better than what we have experienced.

Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, and most importantly, great food. Their naengmyun is absolutely amazing, and I would definitely recommend it to both children and adults.

For the korean food, it is so nice to enjoy with friends. The portion is good as well especially the spicy pork one, the sauce is really yum.

Great food and nice atmosphere. Would definately recommend to others if anyone is keen on authentic korean food. Staff were also friendly. Overall it was a nice visit
It was fathers day n too crowded. They seems forgot my one dish, so it took too long to get one of dishes. 6 of us get 1set of side dishes at first. and when i ask one more set they said we can refill up. But it was too far to get if we share, so had to ask one more set. N they gave us one more set. Well. This restaurant was really good with high quality. But not today. .. 😢 but if i have a special occasion, i will bring my friends there anyway as they usually have a high quality of food.

Jami is the best Korean restaurant.Main food and many side dishes are excellent and taste great. The atmosphere is good and the staff are cheerful.

Had the beef soup here, it was going really well until strings of hair came out from the meat. Told the waitress who looked like she didnt care and brought us a new one. Second one was going well until a long mosquito was amongst the meat.. with a few smaller ones also. Told the waitress again who advised she will tell the manager. Just decided to leave at this point as we didnt hear anything back. Went to the counter to pay and the owner seemed to know nothing about the incident. We told the owner there were bugs/ hair in the beef soup which he did not really take well as he was going to charge us a full amount by saying "there has never been bugs in the food". At this point i just decided im not comming here ever again. Owner didnt end up charging us for the beef soup but didnt look too happy lol
We were new to the town and looking for a quick lunch. We had Jami set and seafood noodle. Food tasted very clean and direct. Curious, we asked the staff and they were very proud to say that they do not use any additives or preservatives which is very rare in Asian restaurants overall. Side dishes are refillable upon request and beef was juicy with decent charcoal smoke scent to it.

Great atmospheric Korean restaurant.
Food quality is far better compared to other Korean restaurants. Charismatic and gorgeous staff
I had a bulgogi. It was surprisingly tasty and full of flavour! And side dishes were satisfying.

I HAD A DELICIOUS MEAL AT JAMI!! HAD A GREAT DEAL EVER I HAD BEFORE.
I went there with my friends, were 5. The table and spaces are more than enough for 5 people. Like the service as soon as We had a table, they got you for any tableware if you need it. Anyway We had a whole fried chicken, Grilled pork with kimchi, seafood pancake, charcoal eel set menu, and a jami st menu. Firstly I reckon the whole fried chicken is really special deal like 9/10 I would give. To elaborate it is so crispy out surface of chicken and the inside was soo soft and taste like juicy sweet. It just went very well through my throat. The grilled pork belly with kimchi it has relly good chemistry. I like the crunchy pork belly with the soft kimchi texture. Seafood fancake has fittes savory taste. And I really like korean traditional side dishes and the set menu everything soo it so satisfying for me thank you
Bon
Nice environment, food was in between good and great. The fried whole chicken was good, meat was tender though the flavoring was to the bland side, and a bit oily. The fried garlic that came with it left a not-so-nice aftertaste, tasted like it was garlic left uncovered in the fridge. Seafood pancake was a bit hit and miss, tasted nice but the batter inside weren't cooked so well so it fell apart, but nice crispy edges. The beef ribs was tasty, good portion, but not so spicy though we ordered the spicy one. Also ordered the soy milk cold noodles as I was really curious of its taste and it was quite nice! Though it's bland but was pleasantly fresh and yummy with the texture of the noodles being al dente and since all the other foods were rich in taste the noodles went well with everything else. Overall high average.

Visited on a Saturday evening and ordered beef rib set menu and kumara noodles with jami’s special sauce.

The set menu was nice, the usual Korean set menus with side dishes but what struck me the most was the kumara noodles.
Noodles were slightly spicy with a hint of sweetness and sourness of the vinegar with thin noodles which is the style of traditional cold noodles in Korea. After eating the charcoal cooked beef, eating a mouthful of cold noodles washed out the greasiness of the meat and allowed me to enjoy the meat with a clean palate.

Would definitely go back for more as the owner mentioned that cold noodles in broth tastes better than the one with jami’s special sauce.

On the side note, amazing atmosphere - loved the decorations and traditional (maybe) plates displayed in the restaurant!
My favorite korean restaurant in auckland! Their foods were amazing, people were sooo friendly, and there were lots of good props to show korean traditional culture. And the thing is, they said they NEVER use any MSG! How could the foods be like that without msg haha

I decided come back here after not being back for a few years. This authentic restaurant didn’t leave me disappointed.

Service: 9/10
The wait for the food was quite fast, about 10 minutes. It was quite difficult to get the waiters’ attention because they were busy running around. They were polite and provided a great dinner experience.

Food: 7/10
It’s just your average Korean food. The spicy squid wasn’t that spicy and it was quite tolerable. The set menu with bulgogi and side dishes was very filling. The huge variety of side dishes satisfied all my cravings. The soup was weirdly sour which I’m not used to for a seaweed soup.

Ambiance: 8/10
The dark lighting creates a mysterious atmosphere. It’s quite nice for a dinner because it makes the meal quite comforting. Everything was very clean and you can see the chefs cooking from the table.

Had a great first dine. One of the better Korean restaurants with outclassing quality and taste. Clean feel & comfortable staff. Set menus worth every cent.
Jade Lim
Good food, good service.
We selected the set menu where you can pick a main dish and it comes with heaps of side dishes (which some of them are refillable). Highly recommend their pork belly and eel.

Will be back to try other dishes again.
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Went to Jami as recommended by friend.
We waited for food for 40 mins and they realize they missed our order and came back ask us what we ordered again! They did apologize at the end but was quite disappointing as there were just two of us so 2 dishes, not that hard to remember. Anyway they food is not bad and we liked all the side dishes.

Jami is an authentic Korean restaurant with beautiful décor and delicious food.

First impressions were that the dining area is very nice and has a calming ambience. The manager was at the front counter to welcome us and seat us straight away when we arrived. Very friendly service.

For food, I ordered a spicy pork belly dish that was served on a plate over a lit fire - so it was sizzling when it arrived. The pork had a subtle smoky flavour and was seasoned well. The pork was part of a set menu that came with several side dishes; including kimchi, mini Korean pancakes, japchae, lotus root (my favourite), and others. The meal also came with a bowl of bean paste soup - a decent serving with plenty of vegetables. The flavours are very natural and true to Korean cooking. At the end of the meal, I was left feeling full and very satisfied.

Overall, it was an excellent meal with good service. I truly enjoyed my experience at Jami, and will gladly be visiting again soon.

Excellent restaurant with yummy authentic Korean food and good service. Have been there more than 6 times and will keep going there. Beef bone soup and Jami set is my favourite.

Tried the galbi soup, had a couple of pieces of galbi in it which were tough and tasteless, soup tasted like MSG. Place looked nice - looks are deceiving

For a late Sunday afternoon lunch we ordered the Bulgogi Set (charcoal grilled beef marinated with sweet soy sauce) and Maekjukgui Set (charcoal grilled pork marinated with soybean and citron sauce). Both meats was served on a hot plate and had that nice smokey flavour but the standout dish was the pork! It was beautifully marinated and succulent. The beef on the other hand was dry and there wasn't much flavour and it only became drier with the hot plate
sizzling away, the portion size also looked a lot smaller than the pork too. Most of the side dishes were okay except for this potato croquette thing in a curry sauce which was soft, floury and luke warm as well, was not very nice at all. All in all we were very full at the end of our meal and was impressed with the beautiful crockery enhancing the experience and setting of the restaurant.

I've been to Jami twice and have enjoyed dinner there both times. The atmosphere is nice and clean, really comfortable. We didn't have to wait long for our food and it was delicious. Overall a great experience but price is slightly higher than most Korean restaurants. Would definitely return for an authentic and traditional meal though.

Amazing bibimbap complete with beef and fried egg, chewy rice and oh-so-yum gochujang! Friendly staff, elegant decors and overall ambiance that will make you feel you're inside a k-drama lol.

Although I can see it has some need for improvement. The bulgogi is a bit lacking in taste and I've had better side dishes (also in wairau area). Wish they also have dessert options like that sweet pancake hotteok (since they are serving a variety of pancakes anyway).

Despite that, I still see a lot of potential here and will definitely come back. I'm excited to see this restaurant improve and become well-known, sans the price hike of course.
I think its good place if you have important meeting like that. The foods were also nice and waitress was also kind and friendly :) i want to recomend to you who like Korean foods

Visited in a group of 8 and ordered the Chi course menu. The raw beef dish had off garlic! The beef was fine but the minced garlic was sour and definitely off and not edible! when we asked for a replacement, the chef was very unprofessional and threw an angry remark saying - that's what it is supposed to taste like. Having worked in a restaurant as a chef for 16 years myself, I at least know when something tastes off. Instead of an apology, the chef continued to say that we should just eat it because that is what it's supposed to taste like.

she brought out the garlic and all 8 of us tasted it and said it was off. The chef went back mumbling negative words towards us. Will never be returning here.

The portion is quite small and pricey. I ordered the beef rib soup and it isn't well seasoned nor the broth was boiled long enough, almost tasted hot water with spring onions. It comes with a rice only and no side dishes and price was $29.

So came here and had no idea what I was in for but it has its ups and downs. The price is slightly higher than normal Korean restaurants, but given its setting, music, plating, furnishing I would think that is pretty reasonable. The food was okay. very nice small dishes, the soups doesn't taste as strongly as other Korean restaurants so I'm suspecting this place doesn't use a lot of MSG which is a bonus! The seafood pancake is filled with stuffings which is nice but I'd think it's too oily with too little flour base.

I visited Jami restaurant few weeks go, had some steamed pork and monkfish. The food were not only nice but also enough. Moreover range of side dishes were so amazing as well !!! be yummy and healthy!
I would like to recommend this place people who haven't visited yet. You will be happy with everything they serve :D

Yummy Jami!

One of the best Korean Resto we've tried as of yet. The spicy Tofu stew is by far the best and is quickly becoming our favourite!

I will more often than not order the Bibimbap and it is good at Jami. The spicy squid and pork set meals are also yummy.

The place is clean organized and staff are fantastic. During our first visit, we were not very familiar with the menu set up so the lady whipped out her phone and guided us by way of pictures, super!

Another recent discovery is Soju! The Blueberry flavoured is great and a good accompaniment with the spicy meal but be careful and drink slow, strong stuff!
Went as a group of friends out for dinner. The food was delicious and had a great atmosphere. I always order Altang whenever I visit a Korean restaurant for the first time to test the kitchen (if the altang is good, everything else is usually great too) and was very surprised. One of the best altang I've had in a while. Will be sure to visit again and try more dishes!

Had an early dinner here last night and it was great!! Have eaten here before for my 21st and I will definitely keep coming back. Jami is amazing and the quality of meal you receive for the price is outstanding. Love it :D

Out of all the Korean food I have consumed, this was by far one of the best. I had a spicy seafood set menu and shared with a friend's bbq pork set menu. The side dishes were delicious and overall a very filling and fulfilling meal. The spice level was great for my seafood, bringing the smokey flavours out and different textures of the crunchy vegetables also added to the great dish. After eating we also had a cinnamon tea - which is a cold drink - this was very sharp in taste, not too sweet also to my liking. If you are looking for traditional with a slight modern twist this is the perfect place to try out Korean. The service was very friendly and helpful where we found it hard to choose, I highly recommend this eatery.

We regularly go to jami and it's absolutely delicious every time, the multiple plates come out and everything tastes amazing , we've left full every time - the Korean version of "miso" is absolutely Devine .

Jami is an high end Korean authentic restaurant with a price to match. The staffs are friendly and the food quality is superb. I did find some of their food slightly too sweet but overall am very pleased with my experience.

Jami is probably one of the best korean restaurant in Auckland! I love how authentic their food are, and how everything is so well presented.

I've been there a few times now and they seems to have different side dishes every time and i love every single one of them! My favourite thing form jami so far are their bosaam (boiled pork belly with fresh kimchi) instead of your normal wong bok leaves they serve their bossam with sesame leaves! Their jim dak is also really good! And their soondubu jigae (soft tofu soup) is just amazing!

The service is not so great though, sometimes it takes a while to be served or they don't refill your water or tea unless you ask... But i guess the food compensate for the lack of service

Such a pleasant meal in an unsuspecting place! My suggestion of ordering here is to get their set meals, for around $20 you get piping hot bowl of Korean soup, your choice of meat and varieties of their side dishes, that can be refilled as you please. I ordered the soybean paste marinated pork and it came juicy on a hot plate (literally there were fire on the entire time) and I tremendously enjoyed my meal. You also get complimentary tea and pumpkin congee/porridge.Service is a bit slow but for the quality of meal, I don't mind waiting.

Quality food for great price. My family ordered one the course menu and it was one of the most aesthetically pleasing and delicious set of dishes I've personally had. If you are looking for korean cuisine, Jami is a place i would thoroughly recommend.

Service was great and loved the side dishes that came with the main meal. Nice and fancy place to have dinner or lunch. Would go back on an occasion
Ana
This place has unbelievably bad service. My sister booked a table for a special occasion with our family. We sat down and after 15 minutes no one gave us the menu or any water so we had to ask them. They only gave us 2 menus for 8 people! We made our order.... And waited 50 long minutes!!!! We had to chase them up several times and no one seems to be able to speak English. Finally they delivered... Only 3 dishes (one of them was a wrong order). They didn't bring any rice or the side dishes, so how did they expect us to start eating? We were very disappointed. Won't go back again and certainly not recommended.

( :
Jami is the best Korean restaurant in NZ for me.
I love their tteok-galbi and side dishes.
If you want to have a REAL Korean traditional food, go to Jami. It will be a great experience.

I really love this restaurant .
I was impressed by taste of meal in Jami.
I think Jami is one of the best korean restaurants I've ever been to.
Thank you. I had happy time with your amazing food..
This is what I got for Bulgogi. Is it for 1/2 person? This is $18 with small other side dishes (denied to refill it). Not going there again.

Worst Korean Restaurant in Auckland.
Ordered charcoal bbq beef short rib set menu. $29 each.
My friend and I were served cold meat, with no charcoal, meat was so tough as well. Also all the side dishes were cold. The soybean paste stew you can smell that it is gone bad. Wasted 58 dollars. Never ever gonna go back.

You must not doubt, just go.
I was moved by their food, service and even interior. All pretty good. Especially tteok-galbi(grilled short lib patties) is the best.

I am not a person who bother to leave a review for a restaurant I visited but this one rocks. I have visited quite a few Korean restaurants in Auckland and some were okay and some were 'hmmm?'.
At Jami, I could enjoy satisfying and delicate Korean cuisine with reasonable price. Saved in my favourite restaurant list for my family and friends.
Caution! Keen to course meal? You better make a reservation before a day.
Well done Jami!
K
I visited here with my girlfriend because i wanted to try out what the buzz was about. We quickly learnt that we needed to book in for scrumptious set course menu. Nonetheless we were quite pleased with the delicious meals they have provided us. I seriously recommend to try the jungsik* menu they provide a lot of small side dish goodies.
Ana95
Food is amazing! Went here for my 21st dinner with a whole bunch of my family, we got to sit in an exclusive part of the restaurant and the service was amazing. Orders taken straight away. Only down side was that the menu descriptions aren't detailed enough so when the food came out we didn't know which dish was whos
Thegreeats
Such great Korean food!
Being a Korean myself I have quite high expectations and I was not disappointed. A wide variety of foods and even a selection of dessert.
Great interior, wasn't an insult to my senses for once
Prices are relatively a bit higher than most places but so worth it
Great portion and quality
Only thing was that it was very busy and they were not very attentive but I could see they were sorry and it was because the place was packed
If you love Korean food give this place a try :)

I am lucky to have this restaurant within a walking distance. I love food here and service. I visit here when I have a craving for Korean 'traditional' food.

Korean food with a twist. Pleasantly surprise with their creative presentation of mundane Korean staples into something more interesting. Service can be very slow. We waited for an hour between dishes on a busy Saturday night. We had the set menu, which is good value for money at $39 for 12 courses.
Han
I really wish I'd known about having to book a day in advance for the set menus, they looked scrumptious. Anyways I couldn't argue with the quality rest of the menu, by far the best representation of the real Korean food that the locals eat.
David
I didn't think we had hanjeongshik here in Auckland, so I was quite surprised when I found that we had one here. I often found Korean places in NZ tend to be a bit towards sweeter side so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Jami does food as you would often find them in traditional Korean places. And you can tell that they don't go overboard with MSGs (not sure if it's no MSG), and the food tend to be just lightly seasoned. And I do recommend you try the 'set' / degustation menus, which you may need to book in a day or two in advance because the variety of the food (and the quantity if you can handle it) is just awesome.

Best Korean restaurant in terms of food quality in Auckland. Keen to dine again here next time with a major course. Not too expensive as well, I just wish there were more employers to deliver customer's satisfaction.

When I first went there the order system was not as organised. I decided to give it a second chance and visited a few days ago. Food was amazing, delivers quality and tradition really well on a table. Would come back again for sure.

Fantastic, food is tasty, great service, and good value for money. It also was healthy. Would return again! Having lots of restaurants which are over-priced and not authentic, it's refreshing to find the opposite!

Ordered as soon as we arrived for lunch. Asked about our food after 15 minutes & told it would be there soon. Decided to leave when watching people who had been there less than 10 minutes being served their food WHILE WE HAD SAT THERE FOR OVER 35 MINUTES! Was told that the resturant was busy but they weren't even half full when we sat down. Won't bother going back again.
