Review Shaky Isles Coffee Co. - Auckland

Alan Walmsley
A nearly-fine café that falls short on details. Spacious and rustic decor, with versatile seating. City prices, but the menu extensive. I took the corn fritters with a large flat white. The fritters were light and fluffy but I sensed they we're freshly cooked - but the again service was quick so that probably explains it. The streaky bacon was flavourful. Coffee outstanding - smooth and full of taste. Tables cleared but not wiped down; I had to find my own knife.

We stumbled upon this place after first arriving in Auckland. Service was nice and we could easily find a table on a Sunday morning. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up coming from brunch before leaving town.

These were some of the best pancakes I have ever eaten. Milkshake was expensive but yummy. Cafe was also beautifully decorated and nice and tidy. Love all the plants and decor! Will be back when I next visit Auckland.

We did not know that there was a whole chain of shaky Isles across New Zealand when we first walked into this one at Customs Street. Absolutely loved the ambience and decoration:- especially the advice to straddle large mammals. Definitely require improvement on service however as most tables were not cleared and food took awhile to ready. Lovely coffee and we enjoyed our brunch tremendously.

A really nice vibe with nice staff. The coffee is great and the food is really good. They change the menu up often and I have been here a few times and never gone away disappointed thus far. Great place for a coffee or a meal.

Shaky Isles is a great and cozy place for having lunch, breakfast, ...or just a tasty latte/flat white! 😋 Lovely served with beautiful cup teaspoons 👌And nice view on the buildings around 🌆🌌

Yummy food and yummy coffee! We got the blueberry muffin and açaí bowls, both were great! The muffin wasn’t too sweet. The location is right around the corner from the ferry building, so it’s a great place to start your day!

Good coffee, and some interesting breakfast choices. I had the crumbed eggs which were yummy. Good cabinet food too, with brownies and slices etc. bit pricey, but probably standard for this part of town. Efficient service, couldn't fault it.

My boyfriend and I went there for breakfast. I wasn't really sure what to get on the menu but I took a chance with a meal that sounded more interesting and weird than anything else. Thought I would hate it but it was probably the most delicious breakfast I had! It was full of flavor and color and plated so nicely. We both loved our drinks and meals.

Spacious cafe in the heart of Britomart that serves up way more all-day brunch food than I had expected. A group of us had met here this morning for a work coffee catch-up, and easily found a space to accommodate us to have a drink and breakfast. Only main issue I had was that in my time constrained 30 minutes, it took about 15 minutes to get my tea... my tea even came out _after_ the sandwich that I had ordered which meant I had to try to get it all down in the last 10 minutes before I had to up and go. Outside of that the experience has been pleasant.

Service is always very quick. Portion for the eggs Benedict was as expected but the breakfast was slightly small compared to other places I’ve been. The potato was cooked in what books like a waffle iron so it was super crunchy and tasty. The eggs were cooked well but the bacon was a bit thin and fatty. The chutney that is came with was tasty. They have lots of cabinet food and make their hot chocolates with a Whitaker’s bar so that is always a plus!

The vibe and food at this place is great. I went on a Sunday around 10am. It was crowded but only a few people in line and a few open tables. The food was great. Only complaint at all was it took about 30 mins to get scrambled eggs and bacon. Beside that, its great.

One of the better coffee outlets in CBD area. 2nd best after Mojo for me !! Flat white was very nice and best part for me is (may be not for everyone) that they serve with a double shot of coffee by default. If havent tried yet..then please do checkout. Also the interiors are quite different and very cool. Give it a try...u wont be disappointed.

Shaky Isles is in a great location in Britomart, near heaps of different public transport options. Ordered eggs benedict and have a few times. It was served on top of what appeared to be waffles which I wasn't a huge fan of personally. There's a decentish amount of seating, but there does tend to be a lot of uncleared dishes on tables which can sometimes be a pain! It's convenience in the city is what makes it a good option to go to.

The place is cozy and comfortable to set a client meeting. I love their Mocha with a piece of chocolate bar in it. The taste is good and rich but the price is kinda expensive for me.

Nice place the interior space is modern combined with industrial it is just amazing definitely worth checking out!

Went here for the first time today. I ordered the $18 eggs benedict and my partner had the big breakfast equivalent which involves adding a bunch of extras to eggs on toast for about $5 a pop. Meaning after adding basic big breakfast foods such as sausages, mushrooms, salmon e.t.c (no hash brown option) this meal can end up costing almost 30 bucks. The prices here would be ok if the food was good but unfortunately it is nowhere close. It seemed as though they weren't even trying with the eggs benedict. It was cold when it reached the table. 2 eggs on a bit of bread with the bacon. Some weird lonely second peice of bread with nothing on it just off to the side minding its own business. Why was it on the plate? Its almost as if they had forgotten after plating the meal that it needed the other peice. There was a strange yellow sauce smothering the feature peice of bread. I thought it might have been hollandaise. I was wrong. No self-respecting hollandaise sauce could be so bland. Instead of lemony, creamy, peppery goodness, I recieved what I can only assume was leftover microwaved margarine. It was stacked with little to no care about structural integrity with height seeming to be the chef's one and only goal and about as soon as the dish was served to us the eggs fell to the table. This was not eggs benedict at all but something else... something dark... with no comprehension of human breakfast needs and no empathy for the hungry disappointment it causes. Also, they got the bread wrong in my partner's order and tried to give it to us anyway saying "oh this is the wrong bread but do you mind having it anyway? I mean we can change it if you REALLY need us to". Also, the watties sauce bottles were crusty and disgusting.

Auckalnd Uni - I came in for a quick snack and decided to get a sausage roll take away. When i received it i was shocked at the small portion size as it cost $5.50. But I slapped some tomato sauce on it from the table and left to eat elsewhere. My first bite i could taste they had re-filled the sauce bottle with a very cheap version (annoying) and as i proceeded to eat the sausage roll i realized the meat was off. It smelled horrible! If you are not moving items, then stop making them. Simple as that. Make a few things really well. Its a big risk to serve old food. You are much better off running out of things then needing to throw them away (or serve them) The service is terrible, all the staff seem lost and confused. I've come in to get a take away coffee and it took so long to get, and this was a weekend so the place wasn't really that busy. Hire people who are experienced front of house, a good barista will help everything run smoothly.

Long waits, food arrived at different times, "breakfast salad" was just a massive plate of spinach and an egg - waste of money. Not a fan.
Michelle Campbell
No point having an airport location to serve airport coffee. Average AF. I didn’t think it was possible to burn milk that much jeez

Here Lynmall at Brickworks at the Shaky Isles...breakfast was fast, yummy and the coffee was superb. Will definitely return...

I have visited the Britomart Shaky Isles several times. I do visit midweek and love the eclectic mix of furniture and the view of the street. The coffee is good (every time I have been) The food selection varied enough that I am able to make a different selection each time. I like that they have Vegetarian options. This is a very quiet and laid back cafe, often people are reading or catching up on their emails, so service is usually unobtrusive. As a person with hearing difficulties I really appreciate the lack of background noise, reflective surfaces etc.

Service:1/5<br/>When we went in, the waiter saw us and just ignored us. We sat down and needed to ask for the menu. The table was dirty and nobody came clean it so we had to wipe by ourselves.<br/>Food: 3/5<br/>The Egg Benedict wasn’t served with bread but deep fried potato waffles and the mushrooms came with this got too much rosemary spices. <br/>The ingredients in the Breakfast Bowl didn’t match each other. <br/>The milk foam for flat white was thicker than cappuccino.....<br/>Never gonna come back again.

I planned to order acai bowl but sadly the blender was broken so I ordered granola instead which did not impressed me as much as it should compare to other places. I also ordered bulletproof coffee. I personally found the coffee is not strong enough and it also served quite cold which make the flavor quite strange.
Food2belly
Tried their whole range of smoothies which was 🍊 Orange Reviver 🌱Green Detox ☕Coffee Boost and 🍓Berry Bright. They were all very tasty but our favourites was the Orange Reviver since we love mango & lime and Berry Bright!<br/><br/>For food, we ordered:<br/>🍇🍌Antioxidant Acai Bowl<br/>🥚🍳Huevos Sucios (Dirty Eggs)<br/>🍅🌭Chorizo, Isles Have it All (similar to a big breakfast)<br/>🧀🥑Halloumi and Avocado Waffle Rosti with some smoked Salmon.<br/>All of them were presented beautifully and it was very delicious 🏵️ We could definitely see hints of the owners Mexican culture in the dishes which is a ➕
Luz !
It has a nice vibe and nice menu options. It lacks identity though and I think it is a bit overpriced for what you get. My order came with a mistake and when I’ve mentioned I was asked but not really encouraged to change it, so I kept what I got. Strong coffee. I liked it.

Good cafe in the city. Lots of seating. We were served quickly but our food took a while. Coffee and drinks came out first. We all ordered juice which was warm and would have been nice if it was chilled. Coffee was nice with the chocolate to stir through. All the Food for great except that the Eggs bene had a savoury waffle as the base which was hard (like stale) and lacked flavour. The Bacon & egg Buddy was uninviting and was literally just bacon and eggs in a bun. All the other things were delicious and tasty.
Mashed_Potato
A fantastic place for a rainy weekend morning where one can sit with a book and enjoy a cup of coffee. The prices are right and the aesthetics make for a calm atmosphere. The only let down was the staff we experienced on 2 seperate visits, the wait time for the food and the food itself is on par with average.<br/>Over all, good for coffee and a book, not the best for lunch.
Karina
Came here for brunch with my friend and I had the 'Acai bowl' and she got the 'Bacon Buttie' which she found dry, bland and a bit tasteless but I thought my acai bowl was quite nice and the coconut yogurt was a nice contrast to the sweetness of the acai .Bit of an average cafe, probably wouldn't return too.
G
Came here for lunch and got the avocado haloumi rosti but replaced the avocado with egg as I don’t like avocado, at no extra cost. Really quick service but was probably because it was a late lunch around 2:30pm. Tasted pretty good too and it was a fairly nice place. By the cutlery holders need to be topped up more frequently. Heaps of them had no cutlery so I had to steal one from the next door table etc.
BAbyWin
Happened to pass by and need a quick coffee so decided to pop-in here. Ordered my regular cappuccino and it was ready in no time as they didn't have other customers. Coffee was very normal I probably won't remember it at all. But they have a very nice environment which might be good to sit down for lunch.
Timah
Food was okayish. Service is bad<br/>Took so long for food to come together which ended up being too cold and my smoothie bowl was already melted<br/>The plates and spoons were very dirty<br/>
I_like_pickles
Had a lovely lunch here. We got the banana bacon pancakes and halloumi rosti. Both were very good. The pancakes were very fluffy and there was plenty of syrup.<br/><br/>The salad had lots of fresh ingredients and lathered in a generous amount of sauce.
LuNa The TuNa
Super delicious ice chocolate!! duck salad was creative enough but not taste good enough. Actually taste a bit weird.... Duck was pretty good, they add watermelon in salad which is good creative, i like watermelon.... But i just didn't get why they add so much soy sauce makes salad tasty neither sweet nor salty..... These nice ingredients can be a really good tasty salad, hope they can try improve the recipe of duck salad.
Tony Ma
Got the duck salad today. Very nice duck, tasted very yummy... but the amount of soy sauce on the watermelon made it taste very strange... <br/><br/>Maybe use a light more honey base? Because the watermelon and soy, sweet 50% salty 50% wasn’t sure what’s what’s...<br/><br/>The ice chocolate was very yummy tho. Very nice!<br/><br/>Will try some other stuff next time to boost the rating!<br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Food Quality: 3/5<br/>Food Quantity: 3/5<br/>Price per person: $10-$30

Well priced and good sized meals. Got all your favourites for cheaper then your average cafe. Amazing hot chocolates and açai bowls! Service is efficient and effective without your food being trashy. A classic cafe with all the goods.
Sunaina Goundar
Have been here many times but recently I feel as though the food has been a hit n miss. I the same thing every time however consistency has been lacking. Could improve on hygiene- cleaning tables immediately after patrons have left as opposed to leaving it for later. Overall decent.
Annie Tong
Not my favourite cafe but can rely on Shakey for a fast cup of coffee. I ordered a flat white and a coconut ball, that tasted very stale like it had been out for a few days - probably should have learnt my lesson never to order their counter food.
Hikari Chan
It was my first time to come here again after a year in this coffee shop. I used to come here a lot last year when I was living in the city because I liked their chicken burger. The lady in the counter treated me differently than other customers. Maybe because I looked haggard because I just finished working night shift or I am Asian? I dunno. And I ordered 3 meal but she did not give me a bag. I have to ask the guy in the counter to give me and he looked pissed off as well when I asked him. Is that the proper way to treat your customer? FYI physical appearance dont matter if you are dealing a customer. These kind of employees are the reason why business fail. THANK YOU!
Jeanie Tong
Literally, i am sitting in the cafe and giving comment atm. To be honest, this is the saddest chicken lettuce bun burger I ever had in Auckland. Guys please if you can read my comments please change it. I do not mind to pay more so i can get a better one, not the one with ony lettuce, sauce, onione and chicken. I rather buy McDonald's fancy burger and cost me only around 11 bucks than this. Shaky Isles used to be my favorite back, right now im doubt about that. I love the coffee here. Im not a fan of strong bitter coffee here is one of my favorite. So, yes coffee is still good so far, food a bit upset. Probably, i will comeback here only for coffee.
Matthew Yang
Business' name is the complete opposite of the business model. Poetic really. You can order a basic eggs on toast and it'll still make you cry. Tell your wallet to quit whining because damn, that wholegrain toast is probably what heaven is paved out of
Malissa Scott
Really friendly staff members, love going here on weekends for a coffee and some baked goods. Coffee is always delicious and fast to come to my table and cabinet foods are always fresh and taste amazing!!<br/>
Emma Judd
One of the best eggs bene I have had to date! The bun they used was so soft and fresh. Place was decorated well, food came out quick and the hot choc was perfect with a chocolate bar in it. Awesome experience 😁

We passed the day after a Ed Sheeran´s concert and decide to have a lovely brunch here, the place was packed and we though was a good sign, we dont mind to share a table as the food come fast and nice... tic toc tic toc finally we got tha attention of the waiter she took our order and we didnt wait at all for our nice warm xtra chocolate mocha.<br/><br/>We havent been in a rush so we just want to have a nice time here but our meals didnt arrive until almost 1 hour, we observed that the other people had empty table, family groups were complaining and didnt seem happy at all so we decided to dont say anything or complaing as we know how is the business.<br/><br/>finally I got my french toast and my bf got a "Isles have it all" basically full breakfast, flavours were ok i didnt enjoy the raw banana i wished would be cooked a bit to get a caramelized point.<br/><br/>we got an extra mocha for the long wait but as I said I wasn´t in a rush.<br/>I dont think I will come back after all the waiting experience I dont thing food is bad either but hire more staff urgently! <br/>Dont recomend it ...If you are the kind of person that you dont want to wait.

Great location and great vibe. Interiors are so cool, rustic and raw. Few selections of slices/sandwiches and to order meal. Ordered their limited edition Shaky Isles caramel slice and didn't regret it. Yum and moisty. Staff were busy maintaining the cleanliness of the store and were friendly. Prompt service is A+. Would like to try their sandwich next time....

I visited shakey isles this morning for breakfast and coffee. I had the hallumi roti for breakfast, the combination of flavours were interesting and overall enjoyable. <br/><br/>My partner initially ordered the French toast however was told that they had run out of this dish. Instead he settled for eggs Benne. He did not enjoy his meal, complaining of stale dry brioche buns and the meal being small and overpriced. <br/><br/>Overall the service was below average with very inattentive staff, our coffee was bought out at seperate times. And 2 staff members walked passed the dirty uncleared table without offering to clear or clean it. I then had to line up at the counter to ask the staff to clean and clear our table before our meals arrived.
Sebastian Morris
Had a terrible experience here. They had run out of the menu choice that I wanted, so I settled and got the Eggs Benedict which was average and in my opinion over priced. Also the tables had not been cleared for some time - would definitely not recommend.
Martha Munnelly
I had the chicken burger which was very nice but none of the tables were cleaned or tidied so we had to wipe them down ourselves. Someone I was with also received her Caesar salad with a banana end in it
Davin Liu
Nice place, staff is always great, coffee is good, food is good, location is awesome. Breakfast on way to work, so convenient, went there so many times, never disappointed.

This Shaky Isles is located in Britomart. Their coffee is great especially if you're on the run in the morning or have a quick meeting! Great seating choices and a wide range of food to choose from.
Yuri.kim479
One of the cafe I go very often.<br/>I think their egg benedict is their best food so far. The bread is crispy outside but soft inside and the holindise sauce with crispy salty bacon and poached egg is just heaven.
The Food Snob
Great fit out, great sandwiches and selection. I love the coffee. I miss this place! I wonder if they still put Whitakers bars in the mochas? Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend.
Zoe The Paranoid
This cafe (Custome Street) locates near downtown Britomart in Auckland CBD. The bus stops are located straight at the front. Very easy to get here.<br/><br/>I really like the industrial yet classical ambiance, neither too dark nor too bright. You could spend the entire morning here reading and working. <br/><br/>I ordered hot chocolate, chicken burger, and shoestring fries. The hot chocolate was amazing, it used a real chocolate bar as the stick to stir the foam, then slowly got melted into the milk. The fries were okay, I don't have much comment on them. The chicken burger was a bit bland and oily. The only way to explain is probably burger is not their area of expertise. @sid<br/><br/>Overall, it's a good place to spend some reading, chatting and drinking coffees.@sid9slove<br/>Kakaka

Really kindly staff, special mocaccono as well. It was good mood in a cafe. And the stamps and take a way cups are cute! I love it! Thanks you for your amazing coffee.
Angela
This place is pretty average and I find the prices to be a bit too high considering the lack of menu choice and overrated food. I had the egg benedict with a green smoothie. The egg benedict was very average and the bread was quite dry. Smoothie wasn't very nice at all - and I've had some pretty good green smoothies before, so overall quite dissapointed
Bbb
came here one time i was downtown and ordered some food that was extremely lovely and delicious, which convinced me to come back another time I was in town. and everytime that i did, I was never disappointed with the food. the food is great! however the other day i was in town and decided to stop by for coffee 20 mins before the store closed, I asked for a small mochaccino and they insisted and charged me for a large one claiming that was the normal size when i could clearly see the displays of the small-medium-large. i let it slide as it didn't bother me too much, when i received the coffee, it was way too bitter to pass as a mocha. one of the worst mochas i have ever consumed. great food but horrid coffee, i apologize.

I usually get the chicken burger and fries at shaky and it's soooo good! The chicken is super fresh, the coating tastes so crisp and they give a nice big slab of it. I also really love the mint mayo that goes with the burger, and the fries are so super crisp and addicting. The price is pretty cheap considering the amount of food you get and the quality of it. Today I decided to try something different instead of the go-to chicken burger. The pikelets (pancakes) were delish! The bacon was cooked perfectly and the pancakes were golden brown and fluffy. Would recommend if you felt like something sweet for breakfast/brunch. The ice chocolate is also a favourite, it tastes like soft serve with chocolate sauce, yum!
Vivek
Been here quite a few times for cakes and coffee and this place is really good. Their cakes ,buns and sandwiches are quite fresh . The cafe itself is quite spacious with a variety of sitting options which makes it easier to find a perfect spot. Service is fast and prices are nominal .
Ellynn
Only had the coffee here and it already turned me off. Once we got inside it smelled like oil and we all didnt feel like staying inside anymore.

Saturday mornings are packed with people at Shaky Isles.<br/><br/>But fortunately we got a nice table soon after ordering some food and drinks.<br/><br/>The short black& orange Smoothie were on the point. The Smoothie was well balanced between sweet& sour flavor and came with a quite large sized glass.<br/><br/>The mince cheese pie was freshly made, filled with a generous amount of fillings. A classic dish that we all familiar with.:)<br/><br/>The Eggs Benedict was a bit disappointing. First of all, It was way too simple--- two over cooked eggs on a English muffin, that's all. The hollandaise sauce was too sour to me, and the salmon had unpleasant fishy taste.<br/><br/>Waitresses were too busy to clean up the tables instead of take care of diners. So I would say service was a bit average.
Rebecca
A nice spot to have breakfast but a bit hit and miss. The breakfast bunty was particularly good with nice crisp bacon and enough sauce so the bread wasn't dry. The coffee was very weak and a bit on the cooler side (which is preferable for some), there is no options for flavored lattes. The location is perfect for me so I will probably end up back here
Angela (A Style Collector)
Been here a few times for coffee and their coffee is strong and good. I like the decor of this place and service is pretty good too. I've only had their pastries not proper breakfast but I enjoyed them too. It's a good spot to have coffee near britomart
Wapatino
Tried this place during lunch break.<br/><br/>The place has a hipster-ish vibe, it's nicely decorated and has a good ambiance overall.<br/><br/>I ordered the "Shaky scrambled wrap" and the soup of the day which was a vegetable and cumin soup. Based on what I tried the food was just ok, not worth the price tag. However, I'd go back to try their pastries which looked pretty good.
Emma Patricia Katili
This cute café has a range of beautifully made sandwiches and pastries. I also love their chai latte. The decor of the place is also great for taking pictures. Furthermore, the staff here are all very friendly.
Khaled Al Masri
Amazing food and great ambience. Very laid back atmosphere and you'll meet the friendliest staff in town! My strong roast black coffee was freshly brewed and prepared. I would come to this place in a heartbeat.
Ashleigh Michelle
Today was my second time here coming in for lunch. I had poached eggs on rye bread, they were as you would expect but didn't like the sprouts on the the toast. The cafe is very spacious with relaxed vibes and decor. Definitely think the coffees are too small,  staff tried to sell me a large as I thought that was a small, and they are a little overpriced. I'm definitely keen to give other breakfast/brunch options on the menu a go.
Nanthawan Oom
I had soy cappuccino, the coffee had a very funny taste, a little sour, not sure if this was because of the soy milk. Had only a couple sips and threw away. It's pretty expensive too $5.50 for a small size (they called it large)
Apple Tate
Seems like a hipster space; a bit pricey for the serving size. Taste is on point. Stand out was the eggs benedict and their milkzhakes are huuuge
Ms Jones
Came in here for lunch. The service was nice & friendly, albeit a bit slow. Ordered Chicken Caesar salad. It was really underwhelming, likewise the almond milk, banana smoothie. I've never had a Caesar salad that has pankos sprinkled everywhere instead of croutons. The communal table I sat at took a while for the plates to be cleared & the table itself was quite dirty. Given the new brunch venues nearby, these guys have got to up their game.
Eggster Eats
Went to Shaky Isles for lunch and had the Breakfast Salad whilst my friend had a pizza from the cabinet. The salad was really tangy and suited my taste and was very filling. Hope to come here again.
Raymond Tiong
I've only been to this branch once on a Saturday, but I had a good time and have made a note to come back. As their name suggests, their shakes are what you should try out. <br/><br/>Service was great, and I liked the aesthetic of the place.
Jhk
Never seen so dirty cafe like this one in Auckland city. All tables were left with cups and dishes when I arrived. All the chairs were terribly looked after with bread crumbles everywhere. Food was shocking and drinks were far below the average. What a shocking place!
Sharon The Foodie
The place and setting is very nice. The food didn't "wow" me. We ordered 9 dishes for 7 of us to try out and one of them was the crumbled egg. It has an excellent amount of mushroom but it needs seasoning, the crumb for fried egg was too hard and the batter was abit too thick...which also had no season. Our other dish was the pikletes. We ordered the mascopone+jam pikletes but they gave us peanutbutter and jelly....it was alright...the pikletes were soft and hot...however if one of us was allergic to nuts...then GG
Lix
Tried twice already. Lovely place but the coffee is not good..too bitter and tasted like over filtered. I said twice I need a takeaway cup but I eventually got a tulip cup....but Salad is not bad
Ken White
We had a breakfast meeting here. 2 people. Ordered toast & coffee. Toast arrived already buttered with sprouts on the toast ( didn't ask for sprouts). No accompanying jamb or spreads. Had to ask for jam and butter. Another ordered poached eggs on toast. Toast came with 1 egg and 2 pieces of toast. Had to ask for a second egg. The meal was cold by the time this arrived. Service was good. Prices were market average. Quality of food served was poor. Won't be returning here.
Miss Kiki
Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I love the wooden floors and high ceilings but unfortunately it can feel untidy and dirty in there. Ordering at the front counter you can see into the kitchen and it looks untidy and messy which can be off-putting. <br/>We ordered the lamb and kumara pie, almond croissant and coffee and hot chocolate. <br/>The pie was really good and so was the croissant. The cutlery in the holder was dirty so I had to steal some from another table.
Lidiyosha
I had such a great time at my first visit (Britomart health week event) to this place (even though they kept bringing me a flat white instead of a latte - like at least 3 times!). Hence, I decided to give this place a go for a lunch. Sorry, no pictures - my meal wasn’t worth a photo. I've ordered an almond smoothie and a haloumi bruschetta. Bruschetta was neither tasty nor appealing. Very weird sort of sauce on top with even more weird avocado spread. I could not even finish my meal. I've also tried to keep flies away from my meal throughout the entire lunch. But at least smoothie tasted ok. Not sure if I'll be returning as there are many great places around! So don't be thrilled with a Zomato score of Shaky Isles (currently 4.0), you're better off trying something else.
Karen Gu
Really interesting style of decoration! Cozy atmosphere, and there has enough space to have seat. So this place is the one of best choice to spend time with friends to enjoy afternoon tea. The pattern of cup is so cute, I collect both of them:) Lol
Michelle Chua
Had shoestring fries , beef Lasagna and ice chocolate. First time. Had some minor problem with food coming but solved immediately which leads to good customers services. Really love the environment. Cozy. Decent price
Jessie Tan
Let's not talk about its service but to be a real foodie and coffee enthusiast Shaky Isles never fail me. The last time I came was probably a year ago when taco was still on the menu. This time round I just realised they changed their menu so I decided to give the wrap a try. It was real good with its sauce and not oily. Coffee was great as usual. <br/>Only when I found a seat it was a little but dirty but I can understand since it was anzac day. 😅 will totally come again.
Lyndsay Sykes
Came here last Sunday.. I ordered the poached eggs on toast with a side of avocado.. It was lovely,<br/>They have a good selection of sauces on the table and my favourite has to be the Rocket fuel sauce.<br/>I had to get English breakfast tea to drink as my go to drink would normally be a mocha but they stick a Whittaker's chocolate bar in the mocha and it's too much for me first thing in the morning.. <br/>Good cabinet selection.

I've been going to Shaky Isles for a long, long time. This cafe is my 'go to' coffee date place when I am in the city. The layout of the cafe is beautiful. There are long tables to sit at while you wait for your takeaway order. If you walk down the stairs, there are tables upon tables waiting. They have a primo view of the street, too. I like people watching, so I love this aspect of the cafe. <br/><br/>I've had the cabinet food and from the menu. Both are brilliant. The coffee from this cafe is always good. Some of the best that I've had in Auckland, actually. I love their food. Some could say that I'm obsessed with it. That's the reason why I always suggest Shaky Isles when I have to organise a date in the CBD. <br/><br/>I love coffee. I love this place. I would 100% recommend it to anyone and everyone. This place is too good to pass up.
Gerhard Joseph
Nice and cozy cafe with one of the best flat whites in central Auckland! I also tried their Eggs Benedict which was good.. Would definitely recommend.
Kat. Jordan
Popped in here for a coffee date with friends and wow what an atmosphere! Totally nailed the kicked-back, artsy cafe vibes and my friends and I (who were filming a short film at the time) felt write at home. The selection of food was good although a bit pricey (to be expected if course in britomart) so we stuck to the cabinet food. I opted for one of their pies although I was a bit gutted I missed out in their salad as it was all gone! The pie was stand out though, I never will go back to the pies in your average Mr Bobs easily! Good chunks of lamb and kumara served with a tasty chutneys was what I needed. Left here very happy and I plan to come back!

A cool, bright cafe in Britomart to catch up with friends over a coffee. Their coffee is great, though I won't say the same about their milkshakes which are just way too sweet.<br/><br/>They have good breakfast/brunch options too - good choice for grabbing a quick bite on a sunny day in the city. Service is decent too.

An Absolute gorgeous place to have my first lunch of 2016. Located near the Britomart transport centre just around the corner about 5 minutes walk. The food is really great and the cafe is real pretty and vintage looking. Overall the food itself is very delicious and feeling. The only downside I would say that the veggies are a bit salty. Costumer services and food quality are amazing so definitely recommend this place . <br/><br/>Food ordered : <br/>Top - pikelets with streaky bacon, grilled banana and maple syrup ($15.5)<br/>The drink - almond banana smoothie ($8)<br/>Bottom - isles have it all ($21.5)

Even though we were there 20 minutes before closing, we were served very well. Food was exquisite and facilities were so cosy and pretty. Love the condiments rack, very useful.

This alternative place has a very cool vibe, sitting on the corner of customs st east and has a large seating area for people to eat and drink. I haven't been to this outlet before and it was a different experience to the newmarket one. Based on food alone I would give this place a high rating but alongside service I had to lower the rating. I ordered the eggs benedict with salmon and avocado on the side as well as a flat white. I couldn't help but notice that there was a bit of attitude coming from the service, probably because I was being indecesive and made my order complex. To be honest.. if you want to make money please be positive to keep people coming back, no matter how difficult they can be. The food was great and so was the coffee, all very fresh and had a good variety of flavours. Would recommend to anyone wanting a healthy, decent sized breakfast/brunch in the CBD

I am a very big fan of their baked eggs and eggs bene - always a fantastic quality and consistent every time I visit. They make for a great breakfast/brunch meal. What I love most about Shaky Isles is their decor and their wonderful Whittaker's hot chocolate. Their staff are fantastic and always helpful - looking forward to my next visit!

Nice and friendly service, great place for a business meeting.. Free wifi and a relaxed atmosphere for you to sit. Also nice clean bathrooms when I was there. Great range of food and decent coffee.

Feeling a bit low in caffeine while shopping in Auckland’s CBD thought I’d try out The Shaky Isles coffee. Glad to say I enjoyed a nice coffee. Not quite as smooth as Sub Rosa however still a nice cup. I was interested to see they have some pretty good offerings with single origin, vacuum coffee as well as the popular cold brew and pour over.

The food was served in very simple way. No fancy presentation. The taste of the food was good. I especially love it's cinnamon roll.<br/><br/>Coffee was good too.<br/><br/>There was a very helpful lady staff who handed me a piece of clean cloth for me to wipe my stained shirt when she saw me accidentally dipped my sleeve to the coffee.<br/>Thank you.
Ryan
Great interior but my first time trying a cold brew at Shaky Isles fell flat. The coffee tasted very weak and a tiny cup for the $4.50 price. <br/><br/>Wouldn't order it again, but will be trying some cold brews and other places around town for comparison.

I've been here several times but I'm yet to have a full meal. That being said, it's a really great place to have a smoothie or coffee and a snack - the counter is FILLED with delicious treats and substantial sandwiches. <br/><br/>I also really appreciate the free wifi and easy access to it - the password on the mirror makes life a bit easier. The decor is cool and there are lots of seats, tables, and friendly staff around.

MUST TRY THE LASAGNE<br/>low on cash and super hungry ?<br/>Go get a lasagne <br/>Super delicious big portioned yum. I think it was $9.50 <br/><br/>Tomatoey richness with mince. Feels like it had been stewing for a long time <br/>The layer of cheeses was super creamy <br/><br/>This tastes super good with rocket sauce <br/><br/>~ friend had the baked eggs <br/>Presentation is super cute steaming hot <br/>Lentils had a curry like flavours ~ probably some Mediterranean spice <br/>

I love this place!! Tried the chickpea salad with kidney beans, feta, fresh mint, cherry tomatoes and basil. The dressing was zingy lemon and olive oil which was nice and light not greasy and fatty. It was absolutely delicious! Really healthy and fresh but filling. Great portion too. The staff were really friendly and professional. I can't wait to go back!

Great cabinet food, but even better coffee. Try it with a scoop of Kapiti vanilla ice cream for an affogato or come here for their mocha with a dark chocolate Whittakers Sante bar. Hits the sweet spot!<br/>

Great atmosphere. Nice interior. Food was excellent. Especially their salad. Tried Caesar salad and it was so delicious. Strongly recommend. I'm <br/>definitely coming back.

Such a good place I love the service, the atmosphere and of course the coffee was amazing I recommend to go there and have a mocha with a sweet treat...

Shaky Isles is only a 10min walk from uni, which is super convenient. This is a great spot for a coffee or brunch date. The ambience is hip and youthful. The lady who served us was welcoming and approachable taking our order quickly. I loved the interior of the shop with it's high ceiling, metal bar stools, large dark wooden tables, lighting and wall fixtures. From the plates to the table numbers, they put a lot of thought into the whole design. I ordered the Oreo Cookie and Iced Chocolate. The Iced Chocolate had the right amount of chocolate and wasn't too sweet with a generous swirl of whipped cream. But the cookie was average, the biscuit was hard and stale and the cream filling had no flavour. I won't order the cookie next time I come, but I know that their savoury options are delicious.

Standard goodness at this precinct! Love the feel of the entire cafe and think they have done particularly well with the menu! My eggs Benedict were marvellous and I would gladly go back and spend my last penny here, great coffees too #g1

Shaky Isles is always such a treat for brunch and their Britomart site doesn't disappoint. I love the quirky interior and colourful decor, and the place was humming with activity while we were there. I had the mushrooms on toast which were flavoured with the most delicious creamy balsamic sauce - yum! My dining companion opted for the classic eggs bene which were perfectly cooked. To round off our meals we had a couple of coffees and I had a caramel slice - so naughty but so nice!! The slice was small but to be honest it was so rich you didn't need anymore! A steal at $2.50 too. Coffee's were great, overall highly recommend Shaky Isles.

There was so much hype on this place. They presented the food really well but it wasn't that great. I most certainly didn't like their coffee either. Although I do find it a nice place to study at because there's wifi and the interior is really nice, I probably wouldn't go back for food. Maybe for tea instead? ZomatoStudents

Best ever herbal Tea & cappuccino i have had in Auckxx yet. I went to this cafe about a year ago last time and really liked it. Went there again yesterday, and came out thinking "Should have gone to the food court instead." Had pomegranate and manuka tea- couldn't taste either in the tea, it just tasted medicinal (yuk!). My friend wanted latte in a bowl- they don't do this (because latte in a bowl is soooo unusual - NOT). Had sausage roll and beef lasagne from the cabinet coz we were really hungry. Sausage roll was stale, dry and the only reason I finished it was because I was hungry and could smother the taste with the tomato chutney with it. Had better sausage roll from the convenience store. The beef lasagne was en par with the sausage roll. Wouldn't go back for any price- particularly what they charge!!

If you're looking for hearty yummy food with a funky twist, this is the place to go.  I frequently come here in summer to grab lunch and then wander up to Takutai Square to eat it on a beanbag in the sun. I love the chicken and mushroom pies and their lasagne. They make a solid flat white, and I recently discovered the Whittaker's hot chocolate they make with a whole santee bar melted into it. Mmmm...  This is the only place in the Britomart area I know of that makes a real chocolate hot choccy and it's totally worth walking the extra few hundred metres for a your liquid chocolate fix.  <br/><br/>The decor is laid back and fun. and they serve you with a smile every time.  I haven't had a bad experience here yet.  One time they accidentally mixed up my order (charged me for something they'd run out of ) and were quick to correct their mistake and offer me anything from the cabinet in place of the item I'd ordered, even though the dollar value of the replacement was slightly more than I'd originally paid.

Ate here last week. There are good and bad parts about this cafe. It has a pretry funky interior. Brick slightly tattered walls, lights hanging from the ceiling, rough dirty looking wooden floor, high arched windows.<br/><br/>The style gives a nice feel though I found the customer service to be smiley but somewhat cold. It's not necessarily a bad cold. Shakey Isles is inner city so would be well suited for someone that likes the less personal type of city life style.<br/><br/>The coffee was decent though the lamb burger I order tasted like an over priced subway meatball sub. It wasn't a bad burger, just felt somewhat cheap.<br/><br/>I'm on the fence with Shakey Isles. I'm giving it a tentative 3.5. With a little better customer service my rating could very easily swing to 4.<br/><br/>I would recommend this place and will go back again.<br/><br/>

Decided to come here after seeing the reviews on Miss Saigon in Newmarket. We were so close to choosing to go there. Their replies to people who give them bad reviews are absurd.<br/><br/>We saw the restaurant of the month menu was offered here and curious to try. $25 for one of the burgers (beef, lamb, chicken) plus a slice/cake from the cabinet and a homegrown juice for the fridge. We got a lamb burger and beef burger, mince and mozzarella pie, sausage roll, iced mochas, and homegrown feijoa juice. We loved how the food came hot, really hot. Not that Luke warm stuff you tend to get at cafes and even restaurants. Burgers were amazing, real meat patties, real ingredients. The pie and sausage rolls was good too! Probably could of done with a thicker gravy on the pie. The mudcake was good too and we loved how they served it heated up so the chocolate was nice and gooey. The highlight was our iced mochas. I would say its the best I've had, perfect balance of choc and coffee and a gooood dollop of whipped cream on top. We were a bit disappointed they don't do chips or any spuds at all but that's not a biggy. Will return to try their cold brew (they ran out =[ ) and other stuff on their menu.<br/><br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Drinks/ iced mocha: 5/5<br/>Atmosphere: 4/5 (comfortable searing and spacious)<br/>Service: 3/5

Their coffee is bad and service is worse. Anything ordered takes a while if it even arrives. Food is pretty good though. Wouldn't recommend.

We came here for a little snack before a concert. I've dropped by at Shaky Isles before to get a smoothie to go which wasn't too bad as well! <br/><br/>The interior at Shaky Isles is so indie! I feel like there's no other way to describe it but there are splashes of paint on the walls and where we were sitting, an intricate art piece covered almost the entire corner of the wall. It was all coffee related of course, but it was so interesting getting lost in the wall art. <br/><br/>We got two mochas and a cappuccino and some snacks each! I got hot cakes which I shared with Bitna and Jessica got a lamb pie! Myself and Bitna also got a sweet treat on the side — I opted for a caramel slice and she got a big Oreo cookie. <br/><br/>The wait staff were very nice! When our hot cakes came out the butter or cream that was on top fell off the top cake and she apologized for it. Presentation was kind of messy because of this little aspect, so I didn't get a photo! We weren't too fussed though as it tasted good regardless! Our mochas came with a whittakers chocolate stick and because I'm a slow coffee drinker, I found that my coffee became quite oily after when most of my chocolate had dissolved into the drink. I had about half left but couldn't bring myself to drink the oil the chocolate had left. <br/><br/>Overall, the service here was great! The food was good too, but not spectacular. I may be back for some of the sweet treats in their front cabinet though! :)<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Shaky Isles has the cutest theme and decor, with splashes of graphic quotes and cartoons on the wall, giving it a happy, vibrant vibe. Their menu is great with something to satisfy those who love classic cafe items, and those looking for a bit of a twist. I love how they serve their hot chocolates with a real Whittakers sante chocolate bar, but the only thing is that you have to wait for the chocolate to melt fully before drinking it. Also, it's hard to resist not gobbling up the chocolate bar before it melts! It would be nice if they added chocolate powder into the milk too along with the chocolate bar as it was barely chocolate-y after it fully melted. Their food is on the small side for what they charge, and while it looked appealing on the menu, it didn't quite deliver on the plate.<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

I am a bit of an Auckland-restaurant-eating-places-noob as I've only been living her for a year and a half and I tend to stick to places I already know and like.<br/><br/>However my friend Lena Duffin assured me that Shaky Isles was really good so we paid a visit during a rare trip into town.<br/><br/>I was fairly hungry that day and because the food was fairly expensive, I was expecting a large portion size.<br/><br/>I ordered the Halloumi Bruschetta and a Lemonade. Bruschetta is a dish I've had once before at an authentic Italian restaurant and then recreated at home multiple times. <br/>This Bruschetta was not the Italian kind, which I admit, was a little disappointing. The Halloumi tasted really good, but I was expecting more tomato, however what I received was a few cooked cherry tomatoes with little to no seasoning. It was also a fairly small portion size which was again, a little disappointing. I found it expensive for what you received. <br/>However, it did taste pretty good, and Lena Duffin's meal looked pretty delicious too. The Lemonade was good, and satisfied my thirst well. It was a nice accompaniment to the meal.<br/><br/>The biggest  let down of the experience was definitely the service. It was a classic example of being served by the 'type' of Aucklanders that everybody warns you about down South.<br/><br/>Our waitress wasn't rude as such, but she certainly wasn't friendly or made us feel as though she was happy to see us there.<br/><br/>Overall, I'm giving Shaky Isles a rating of a 3 as it's just above average based on the food and the quality of ingredients. However, I'm not sure if I'd come back again when there are so many other options in the area.

After a couple of bad experiences a couple of years ago including one particularly awful caesar salad, I've been wary of heading back to Shaky Isles.<br/><br/>But between it being a favourite amongst my friends and being on a personal mission to find the best coffee in Britomart, it seemed only just that I give it another go. <br/><br/>It was well worth the gamble. I ordered a pumpkin pinwheel and almond milk cappuccino. Both were delicious and quite notably, the coffee was possibly one of the best I've ever had. <br/><br/>While I wish they (and everyone else in the CBD) would do more in the way of snack sized savoury treats, I was pretty taken with the idea of a gluten free cherry ripe slice and looking up at the menu I am intrigued by the idea of artichoke fritters. <br/><br/>With that incredible coffee experience in my pocket I will be returning to see how other menu items go. <br/><br/>The only outstanding odd bit - the coffee slogans - why? Why would I straddle a large mammal with my coffee? why are you riding a banana? I love the idea of a cute coffee cup slogan but these ones are just odd....<br/><br/>#challenge

I have only had the pies here but they are GOOD! And I love the decor! The last time I was here there was a it of a wait on my pie as they were very busy but they made sure I knew it would not be too much longer. Will definitely be back again and again.

Really great atmosphere, and the food was top notch. We had the pikelets and the eggs benedict, both of which were excellent, however the hollandaise was pretty cold but it still tasted yum. I would definitely take my tinder dates here for breakfast again.

Great and fast service, lovely atmosphere and decently priced. My group got a milkshake, two coffees, a smoothie and an almond orange cake. Everything was really nice, would recommend!

Shaky Isles is a cafe that I have always enjoyed, but the service really lets it down. It's the sort of place where you get brought your meals and coffees and then just ignored afterwards, and it's such a disappointment. Our plates and empty cups weren't cleared while they were sitting in front of us, let alone bringing us water or suggesting more coffee, like good service would be. I've had similar experiences such as when Corrine and Lizzy Lockhart and I were there and we were sitting there with menus and had no idea whether we had to order at the counter or not - very disappointing.<br/><br/>I had Eggs Benedict with bacon, and a soy latte which came to $23, roughly standard for Auckland cafes. I liked how crispy the bacon was, and the eggs were the right level of hardness. The addition of salsa was unusual but good! Emily White had the Haloumi Bruschetta, and she said that although it was nice, it was $15 and not super filling - should have been a larger serving or a lower price. <br/><br/>I love that Shaky isles has lots of sauces and salt and pepper shakers on the table - I realise this is a topic in a lot of my reviews but it makes a difference to my enjoyment of  a meal! Their baked goods are always delicious, and the mochas and hot chocolates with a Whittaker's chocolate stick are amazing. They just really need to work on their customer service!!!!

Walking into Shakey Isles was very welcoming, the ambience of the place was very pleasant. With the cabinet staring right at you its hard to pick what you want. everything in there is just so amazing! Although the prices may seem hefty, its well worth the cost and definitely leaves you feeling satisfied. its a great place to grab a coffee and socialise with some friends. <br/><br/>i had bought the goodstuff sandwich along with a large latte. Honestly.. best sandwich i have tried in a while. The produce was fresh and the flavours were to die for! i recommend Shakey Isles to all my friends <br/><br/>The staff are also very friendly and make you leave with a smile on your dial :)

Made me feel like I was back in Melbourne! <br/>Hipster modern casual feel to decor and service, with a friendliness and professionalism during a busy morning period. Excellent eggs Benedict and coffee, was exactly what I was looking for! Bonus: free WiFi available for those morning rituals<br/>

Shakey Isles Britomart is a funky little cafe in the heart of Birtomart. Food is always consistantly great , you can never walk past the cabinet without ordering a thing or 2 to down with the amazing coffee. The staff there are a friendly bunch & a smile is always iminent. We often travel from the North Shore on the weekend for coffee & food here. A must try. Great work team. <br/>P.s try the picklets & the pulled pork roll with a great amount of pork & slaw! YUM!<br/>28/06/15

I am so glad I was introduced to this place recently. Not only is the atmosphere incredibly inviting, but the food is just as fantastic! Granted, the service was a little slow on the day I came in with a friend but that really came down to how busy they were.<br/><br/>A friend and I both went in for an early afternoon bite to breakway from a nearby event. I ordered a Whittaker's Mocha while my friend ordered a Whittaker's Hot Chocolate - very good! Although my order was mistaken for a Hot Chocolate, which was fairly promptly rectified after I informed the waitress. <br/><br/>While my friend ordered the Eggs Bene with bacon, I ordered the Haloumi Bruschetta with extra haloumi and I have to say... it HIT. THE. SPOT. I kid you not, I had a dream about in the week following (sad, I know, but bloody hell was that good!) My friend also enjoyed her Eggs Bene, though one of the eggs were a little overdone (not runny as would be expected), but in saying that she said she didn't mind and was happy overall. <br/><br/>I will point out one negative, though nitpicky/petty at best. I'm not one to complain about people's attitudes nor impose my own requests on others, and neither am I fond of playing the victim card or taking anything personally, but - as with many other food establishments, just as a way of asking because you never know - I asked the lady at the counter if any of their meats were halal. I'm not bothered really if there aren't any options or not, because I can easily order seafood/vegetarian/egg options, but when the lady asked one of the male staff in the kitchen (I'm not sure whether executive/sous chef or whoever), he made the most disgruntled/scoffed face expression as if the question that was posed was a ridiculous/laughable one. I did not take offence to it or I may be reading into it, but I found that to come off very rude and I felt a little off (before I tried the food of course!) but I know that asking such a question could do no harm, surely?<br/><br/>In any case, I will be back many, many times and I cannot wait to try something else - or even get the bruschetta and coffee again. Plus the selection of food in the cabinet: phwoar!

I love the atmosphere of this place, me and a friend popped in late afternoon for tea and had a dessert each. Was delicious and the staff were really nice :) hope to come back for a proper meal soon

The times I come to Shaky Isles is almost exclusively while waiting for a bus. The cabinet food here is always great and the coffee nice and strong. Couple that with a chill atmosphere and great decor this is a cool cafe to just chill in.

I came in here with my daughter early (7.15am ish) and was really impressed.<br/><br/>My daughter had a coffee which she said was strong and well made and we shared an almond cake - strong deep flavour and good size for two to share.<br/><br/>The range of food was appealing and the pies looked very tasty.<br/><br/>Service was quick - they were busy - and friendly.<br/><br/>The decor was great with bare brick walls and various messages about coffee and related matters.<br/><br/>The location suits my daughter rather than myself (nearer to Uni) but was so impressed that this my replace Sub Rosa as my favourite CDB cafe.

Every time I walked pass this cafe, I adored their interior designs and it is usually packed with people. Today I finally visited to have a cup of cappuccino and my boyfriend who order flat white with double shots. The coffees were good but I personally felt that my coffee wasn't hot enough to my liking. It was warm but not warm enough to melt the sugar I put in. <br/>I was also surprised that there were no menu available at the counter when I wanted to see what do they offer. But overall I just enjoy the atmosphere and decorations/interior designs of the cafe. I think I will return next time for a breakfast meal and a cuppa.
Alex
Decided to try this place out when we walking pass it. It looks really cool from outside. <br/><br/>We walked in ordered a flatwhite , a iced coffee and carrot slice to share. Their coffee was okay neither extremly good nor bad, the carrot cake was yummy though.<br/><br/>I really like their atmosphere, it's such an airy and cozy space. It's a place you can take your time enjoy a cup of coffee and daydreaming.<br/><br/>Their service was great, the staff was very friendly. Unlike other busy cafes they don't seem very bothered even I stayed there a little longer.
Table For One
This place is my refuge from all of the Starbucks, Coffee Clubs and Esquires in the Auckland CBD. A corner full of character!<br/>I quite often go here just for their hot chocolates which come with a Whittakers sante bar to stir in. I've also tried their bacon and egg rolls at breakfast time, the cabinet food is delicious!<br/>The interior style is industrial. If exposed brick walls, low hanging lights bulbs and wooden floors are your jam you'll like this place. There is a good amount of seating available. There are large tables to share with cute strangers and there are cushioned chairs by the window so that you can just stare at cute strangers.<br/>Next time you're in town shopping up a storm take yourself here for that well earned break.
Claudia Serra
Never had a bad experience at this café :) Coffee is always excellent and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. My current favourite spot! Can get a little cold in the winter though...
Sweet Mama M
We visited this cafe at the tail end of a city visit when I couldn't face the drive home without a caffeine kick. I was a bit concerned about finding a child-friendly cafe in the CBD and eventually thought that I'd just have to suck it up and make it work. Thank goodness I chose Shaky Isles. The counter entry isn't particularly pram friendly - I lugged our stroller up a small flight of stairs although I did notice a wheelchair lift that could be utilized if necessary. There is however a flat entry from the street to their lower dining entry so that could be an option. The murals on the wall were both beautiful and informative- great work!<br/><br/>We ordered a soy mocha (for me) and a cinnamon brioche to share. The mocha came with a santé bar of chocolate slowly melting in - yummy! The brioche was spicy and sweet - extremely good value.<br/><br/>The service was great - the staff are us feel incredibly welcome. The icing on the cake for me as a mother was the inclusion of a small toy corner - my car-mad Master One was in heaven. We didn't see any high chairs but to be honest we weren't looking for them - they may be there. My only gripe was that after crawling around on the floor playing with the trucks, my son's pants were filthy with dust - not a place for your kids to wear their Sunday best. Despite this, we'll definitely be back!

Went here for breakfast after a night out and it was exactly what we needed. Love the setup and atmosphere of the place and the staff were polite. The food was well done and of decent portions. I ordered the 'isles has it all' which offered a good selection of everything. There is a good range of vegetarian options here too which pleased my partner. Will be back when we're in town to try some other options here

I've got massively mixed feelings about this place! I absolutely love the food and the feeling of the place! The coffee can be a bit hit and miss over the last few times I've been in! The staff are all polite but I always get the feeling that I'm just the "next" customer!

Visited for breakfast. Friendly staff and great looking food. Enjoyed eggs Benedict and bacon. That was one of the best I have had. Great twist with the brioche bun. Great work and will be visiting again. Once again friendly and helpful staff. Thanks <br/>

While I always feel guilty for spending hours in the cafe doing study, my reason is because in the morning this place is not too loud but not too quiet, is so comfortable to sit in and their coffee is something special. Always consistent and delicious. Yet to try something off the menu but the cabinet food is what i'll probably be going for next!
Angela Liu
A great sunny cafe to chill and catch up with friends. The service was speedy but attentive. Great smoothies and coffee. There is also a good selection of cabinet food.
Lyn OKane
This cafe was terrible in every way. Service was non existent. When we had sat there for at least half hour without being served our breakfast I went to ask where it was. As we were the only ones bar two who were seated in the downstairs area we knew when newcomers breakfasts were being served something was amiss. I was told that some breakfasts take longer than others to prepare( yeah rite) !!!!  Almost immediately after that the waiter arrived with the breakfasts. They were stone cold. Gave the coffees a miss as didn't gave another half day to wait.
Vivi S
My brunch menu was poached eggs on silver beet and rye bread. They didn't have egg's Benedict so this was the alternative. The photo makes it look small, but it was actually quite filling. I took my time, not wanting to go out in the cold wet weather any time soon. Love lazy mornings.
Frank
Perfect spot for coffee, lunch, whatever. No need to go to your boring Coffee Clubs, Esquires or whatever else is popping up nearby, this place has style and character. Always been impressed with their food and coffee, especially their mochas (they do the melting stick of chocolate mocha :-)... Carrot cake also top notch! Location excellent for all the startup hipsters upstairs at the Generator, and convenient to Britomart. Probably one of the earliest cafes (that I have seen) to do the exposed brick look that everyone is now copying...

Very funky interior, plenty of seating, and cute layout.<br/><br/>Loved how the food arrived - on wooden boards. I ordered scrambled eggs with extra salmon on the side. The eggs came out on a tiny pan! That was definitely diffrrent from the rest.
Ninjunkie
This place is great for brunch on any day of the week. Delicious food selection! Have tried their pikelets blueberry and enjoyed it very much as well as the pulled pork burger! Meat was soft and has a hint of sweetness that goes well with the veggies. Coffee is great too! Not to mention the cool place they've got. Lovely atmosphere, good for chilling out on a fine day.

The Shaky Isles is a great spot to grab a coffee or a brunch at if you're in the Auckland CBD area, as it's centrally located (being just off Queen Street) with a great decor, roomy with plenty of seating and offers a fairly extensive selection of choices, with both a large cabinet containing a scrumptious-looking array of treats (think sandwiches, muffins, dessert slices and pies) and a full menu.<br/><br/>The service is average at best. On my first visit, my friends and I had been sitting for close to 15 minutes before we worked out that they must not have offered table service, because despite 3 different wait staff circling past us and making eye contact (and it was clear that we hadn't ordered, as we were seated at an empty table without cutlery or a table number), we were ignored. I think it would've been nice for one of the team to have mentioned it. Once you actually make it to the counter, the service isn't much better, and this has been across a few occasions.<br/><br/>On my most recent stop in, I opted for the Haloumi Bruschetta, while my friend chose the Banana Bread. Though both were divine and beautifully presented, it needs to be said: the portions are small, and particularly for the price that you pay. Although it was served with Lewis Road Creamery butter and creatively served on a wooden board, my friend was disappointed that she'd forked out (from memory) $8 (maybe $8.50) for what turned out to be a modest serving of banana bread cut into two pieces. I loved my meal, it was perfectly cooked, and the combination of avocado, pan-fried haloumi, coriander, tomato and Turkish bread is a winner, but if you were ravenous, you'd be leaving hungry.<br/><br/>Order a coffee and you'll not only receive a heavenly brew (according to my company), but a bar of Whittaker's Chocolate dunked into it too, which was an impressive touch.<br/><br/>What they do, they do well, but a friendly smile and some appreciation for the customer wouldn't go astray.
Elliot Knight
Very average - no table service- overpriced for what it is- <br/><br/><br/>Positive coffee is good but food was definitely very low par and not worth .....
Caitlin
Came in to get a hot chocolate today after lunch (230pm). <br/>I had to wait a little bit because the barista had another order to do first. Even though he was busy, he acknowledged me and gave me a lovely warm smile- so happy and nice to see someone enjoying their job and looking after the customers!

I went there for lunch with a friend. We were in a hurry and I told the person serving us. My food took ages and when it arrived it was very disappointing. I think it cost about $20 for a salmon open sandwich. I could have easily done better at home with ingredients from the supermarket. I could live with that because at least what I got was what I ordered but what I can't stand dirty cafes. This is a dirty cafe. The tables were grubby, the toilets definitely needed cleaning and all food is served on wooden boards. If those aren't being cleaned properly then it's a worry. I won't be back. There are way better options very close by.

Was disappointed with our return visit to Shaky Isles. We waited 30 minutes for our food to be served. Feta with tabbouleh was tasteless and unexciting. The Canadian sardines were served in the tin with 4 whole tomatoes and cream cheese. A trendy presentation but not much culinary imagination. The milkshake was sent back as it was all foam and tasteless. Probably a good place to eat if you only want eggs!

I came across Shaky Isles in downtown Auckland recently. It is in a great location and the decor is a blend of funky, modern and rustic. I had Eggs Benedict for brunch and was really pleased to see that it came with both organic bacon and spinach (a la Florentine) on Danish rye. The eggs were almost perfectly poached and Hollandaise came on the side, as requested. Most of the brunch menu seemed to feature Danish rye - not usually my first choice but it tasted great and wasn't too heavy. The presentation really stood out with my meal served on a wooden board with lines of salt and pepper as part of it. Much more interesting than a conventional plate! Brunch was quite costly (meal = $17.50 and latte = $4.50) so I'd say Shaky Isles is more of a 'treat' destination, but it's definitely somewhere I'd return to when I'm in Auckland again.

Really cool decor and place to chill with friends, but a bit overpriced. Without meaning to sound pretentious, my Soy Cappuccino was burnt and resembled more of an overpriced Flat White. Service was av

What a bloody fantastic place!!<br/>The cafe interior is unique and quite spacious, with a styley faux-bohemian chic. Other unique highlights were the serving dishes - wooden chopping boards - I love it!<br/><br/>Tremendous caramel choc slice tasted very fresh and homemade ... Quality flavours in that thick gooey caramel layer. Great coffee... Excellent execution of the much despised decaf soy flat white ;)<br/><br/>Staff were smiley and helpful.<br/><br/>Only critique is the one seriously wonky pink fabric chair that needs to be fixed, coz I nearly landed on me butt on the floor!<br/><br/>High ceilings and massive light-giving windows are great. It looked like a good varied brunch menu too, but I was just in for morning tea.

We used to go when it first open, and really enjoyed their food and coffee. However, it had been at least a good year and half before we revisited the place. To our disappointment the menu has changed.<br/><br/>Husband does not find anything appealing from the menu so ordered a counter sandwich instead. I ordered a bruschetta with Sardine $12, and this arrived as three thin slices of bread, a spoonful of cream cheese, two tiny tomatoes and an opened can of Sardine and I can buy from supermarket for under $1!<br/><br/>I was a little speechless... The shop rental must be very expensive!

Came down for the Santa parade yesterday with my daughter and stumbled across this cafe. Not very visible from the street if you are browsing the area. Only popped in for a coffee and a smoothie to takeaway. Ordered a flat white and a berry smoothie at the counter. The guy who served me had a moustache, actually, all the guys had moustaches it was kind of weird. To my amusement the guy at the counter clarified why, Movemeber. <br/><br/>Ordered the drinks with him and before I knew it my coffee was sitting on the counter, the coffee guy must have overhead my order while I was chatting and started to make it. really needed that with a screaming 7 year old. The smoothie followed afterwards and was yummy, had to sample it for myself. My daughter was quite for the next 15 minutes.<br/><br/>Great friendly service and the coffee was yum too. will have to pop back for some brekky

Shaky Isles is a really cool cafe in downtown Britomart. This was my fist time after hearing mixed reviews about the place. Service was casual and friendly, nice to have in the city which runs at a million miles an hour. I had a flat white and it was excelent, a bit small for my liking, would have been nice to know that there was a bigger size. Ordered a Steak Sandwich. within 10 minutes it was on the table. Quite a different story from what I was told by a friend who said the food was slow. Tasted great!!!!. So full, so satisfied, will be recommending.

By far the most appalling service I have ever experienced. Upon arrival it was not that busy, but no tables had been cleared and service at the counter was slow. During my lunch hour it took 40min for my food (a simple toasted sandwich) to arrive, it in fact only arrived after I had to chase after the waiter. I doubt whether our order had even made it to the kitchen. By the time my food arrived, I had to leave to go back to work so asked for my meal in a takeaway bag. No refund, no extras for the delay. The staff are rude, the food is average, will NEVER return.

Went with a friend to have brunch at this place as I had a voucher. We were very pleasantly surprised! The menu is slightly expensive, but the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The milkshakes were yum too. The place was very nice as well, and the waiters were very friendly. I am very happy to recommend this place.

Shaky Isles is a very popular cafe chain with outlets in Kingsland and in the CBD. I popped into the CBD store as I had a voucher for a free coffee with any purchase. <br/><br/>I ordered the haloumi bruschetta which came with avocado and tomato. It was really tasty but for the portion size, I found $15 to be a bit pricey. However, the flat white was excellent.<br/><br/>The service was awesome, very friendly counter staff and I didn't feel like a hassle when I asked to use my voucher when they were busy.

Currently sitting in shaky isles and I have to say, I'm not that impressed! Like it's cute and stuff and the decorations are stylish and quirky. But my impression has been dimmed because of the wait staff. The waiter left me feeling unattended to- he took my order and he just walked away, so I couldn't tell if anyone was making my smoothie or not. <br/><br/>I ordered a Hawaiian five o smoothie and it said it had mango and coconut milk in it. All I can taste is banana! And it was $7.50. Which would be okay if I could taste the mango!<br/><br/>My friends had hot chocolate and a latte and their drinks are quite good.<br/><br/>Good for hipster cred, but it's not something I want to bring my friends and recommend drinks too, nothing to be proud of :/ I'm sorry for the lukewarm review!! But Shaky Isles to me is just okay.

What a cool cafe, with free Wi-Fi.<br/><br/>I had 'pig in a bun' and my usual triple shot coffee. The milk shakys (milkshakes) look the business! <br/> <br/>Some of the menu is vegetarian-friendly too, which is great for my herbivore friends!<br/><br/>Loved the space, the creative walls, the presentation of the food and the genuinely happy staff!<br/><br/><br/>You should go - if you haven't already.

Good breakfast and brunch type food... Sometimes there is a bit of a wait before the food arrives...but quality is hood

The cafe is spacious with cute wall decorations. It has a quirky sense of style and is a fun place to visit<br/>A mixture of modern and industrial interior well suited to match the busy life of Britomart.<br/>Presentation is perfect with most meals served on a wooden board. Shaky isles obviously takes pride in their quality of presentation they bring to you! its a nice down-to-earth cafe with friendly service for a quick bite to eat or catch up with friends.<br/>Menu is presented on a large blackboard above the counter and behind the cabinet which offers little sweet treats or good old savoury sandwiches or pies.<br/><br/>I went for a nice lunch with a group of friends. Whittakers Hot chocolate is a must! We all ordered one and we all loved it :)<br/>The Cajun chicken soft shell tacos were amazing. Don't let the cajun name fool you, these little things got a lot spicier! Mango salsa was refreshing and was great with the chicken.<br/><br/>I'm a frequent customer at Shaky Isles, usually to pick up a morning coffee or a lunch in this cute little cafe.

Shaky Isles is a good go-to to have up your sleeve if you're in the Britomart area - they can always be relied upon for good drinks, and cool presentation.<br/><br/>The cafe itself is large and airy, with two separate sections to find a seat within. The surroundings are a mixture of edgy brick, mural, glass, and rich hardwood floors. <br/><br/>Prices are a little high for the small portions you receive, but the presentation tends to distract you. Their muesli is particularly good, as is their hot chocolate, which comes in the form of a stick of chocolate melting into your glass of hot milk. <br/><br/>Last time I was in, they were still presenting meals on wooden chopping boards, and muesli in glass jars. It was a great twist on your usual shallow, square white plate setting.<br/><br/>The price isn't always right (although for me, once the price was complimentary!!!), but the experience is memorable!<br/><br/>To see more about my time at Shaky Isles, check my blog post:<br/>http://minaross.wordpress.com/2013/09/16/early-spring-food-and-festivals-in-auckland/
Two Honest Truths
Shaky Isles is home to awesome decor, friendly staff and lovely food. We love their menu food but aren’t quite fans of the cabinet. <br/>A must try dish would be the Portobello Ciabatta. The creamy mushrooms topped with wine sauce and sprinkled with Kapiti cheese, all on a slice of crispy ciabatta is simply delicious. Pair with a cup of Whittakers Hot Chocolate - served with steam milk and a Whittakers chocolate stick. A fun and incredibly rich cup of hot chocolate. <br/><br/>Do go along and visit this cool cafe, if not for the food then at least for the staple coffee story wall.<br/><br/>Read the full review on http://twohonesttruths.com/category/shaky-isles/

I first went to shake isles for my birthday and I was thankfully pleased with the whole experience. First off, the staff are super friendly and are not afraid to get into a full on convo with you. Shakey isles also pit there's own quiet spin on classic meals and there presentation is extremely creative and inspiring. You definitely need to check it out for yourselves as words will not do it justice. It should be noted however that a lot of the products used are 'healthy' alternatives, so if you're not a fan of whole meal bread, you might have to make that clear to them before you order. Woof.
Kiwi Food Wonders
Shaky Isles is the cafe that embraces all things Kiwi; Vogels toast, pikelets and wilted silverbeet instead of spinach on your eggs Bene. And you can't leave out the Whittakers chocolate bar that melts into your hot chocolate as you stir it in - sweet as.<br/><br/>The little brother to the original Kingsland cafe, Shaky Isles Britomart was opened in late 2010. Located in Excelsior House on Customs Street East, the interior of the cafe embraces the historic nature of the 1897 building. The walls are stripped back to the original cladding or tiled, and decorated with the company's distinctive graphics. You can choose from large communal tables or an annex with smaller table seating. It all combines to create a very funky, inner-city, New York-style vibe.<br/><br/>We visited on a cruisy Sunday morning, and the kitchen seemed to be in cruise mode too. Our coffees were quick to arrive but breakfast was a little longer in getting to us. Shaky Isles' tag line is "putting the (serious) fun into coffee" and they mean business. You can stick to your regular espresso hit, or branch out and try their specialty syphon coffee (think bunsen burner crossed with a plunger). They are also making filter coffee cool again, and the bottomless mugs on offer entice you to stay & linger whilst using the free Wifi. The cold drip coffee comes in neat, still or sparkling varieties if you feel like a refreshing caffeine fix. But it is hard to go past those mochas and hot chocolates with the unctuous, melting Whittakers chocolatey-ness oozing from them......<br/><br/>The breakfast/brunch menu offers a unique, if limited, selection of meals, supported by a cabinet display of salads & sandwiches. Each meal comes served on a large wooden board; muesli, fruit & yoghurt in quirky glass jars & bottles to be mixed at your pleasure, and the more substantial cooked meals come stacked on Vogels toast with a heaped pinch of loose sea salt & cracked pepper adorning the corner of the board. The hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict had a delicious lemony tang, and the silverbeet was perfectly wilted. These guys are committed to using the highest quality ingredients and sourcing local, organic and free-range wherever possible.<br/><br/>If you are serious about coffee, Shaky Isles is your kinda place. This cafe oozes style, and as the substance continues to measure up, Britomart will have another jewel in it's rather overloaded crown.<br/><br/>If you liked this review, check out more like it at: http://kiwifoodwonders.com
