Review Birdie's All Day Bar & Deli - Auckland

A nice spot and even though it's just opened up the staff and service seem well settled and fast. I had the kale salad and my partner had the chicken roll. I think they should mention that some of the chicken meals contains bones as my partner almost ate one. Overall well priced and both meals were great, service a bit slow considering how busy they were, but would return to enjoy again. Second time here. Same order, excellent yet again.

Breaking from our normal Sylvia Park Cafe breakfast we chose birdies and what a great choice it was. The breakfast menu is quite different with a very refreshing twist . I had the duck with potato and hollandaise sauce and it was absolutely delicious. The wife at some chicken croquettes with hollandaise and they were also very good. Meals had great flavour, textures and a good amount of hollandaise. The coffee was great flavours. Price was great for food portions. Excellent experience great service, looking forward to trying some other items in future. TIP make sure you join their Joy lab rewards program as you get break incentive pay back on their Rewards, with 21 different food places to use it at.

Absolutely loooved our time at Birdies today. Food was absolutely AMAZING and at a reasonable price. The service was impeccable, we would like to especially commend our waiter JAMES, his great communication skills and delivering the best customer service yet. Our whole family enjoyed their day out and this restaurant really met all our expectations and beyond. Thanks for making this day possible for our mums bday, definitely one worth remembering. Thank you so much. Highly recommend. A++++. We will definitely be back again. 😍😍

Came here on Wednesday night of June 20th for my 9th wedding anniversary. Friendly staff, quick service, nice atmosphere. Everything was great. We had the rotisserie tasting board for me and my husband but could easily feed 3 or 4 people, the portions were very generous, had heaps to take home. Also had a side of duck fat roasted potatoes and the carrots which were delicious. Would recommend coming here, will definitely return. Forgot also had dessert too lol which was different to what we'd normally have but was fantastic none the less. The cheesecake mousse and dessert sandwich.

we three had the sharing bbq board so that everyone can try out different thing. perfer the lamb and pork, bird were a bit dried out, beef are not bad too. the bbq board come with chicken gravy.

The service at Birdie’s is always fantastic as staff is friendly, engaging and so hospitable. I love enjoying a catch up with friends at Birdies, as the food is delicious and food delivery is always prompt. Highly recommended!

Super yum! We each had a different roll - chicken, lamb and beef - all delicious around $15 - great lunch spot, coffee and drink was great too!

Very nice ambience and service was great. Their rotisserie chicken was a little dry though, but other dishes were great.

One of the best chicken restaurants in the city specifically in Sylia Park. Wide range of meals and prices to satisfy your taste. This is one of my favorite dishes there, its "chicken schnitzel". You won't regret trying it 👌
Franjo Strajnar
Excellent as always. Home style cooking with chef's own flavour. Highly recommended.

Delicious food

Went for bottomless bubbles and staff didn’t want to give you what you paid for. Would not recommend.

Best thing about our meal was the pork belly bao, which was a bit disappointing as considering the name of the restaurant. The food was good though, would come back for the bao.

Came here all excited to have drinks and lunch for the first time and was waiting to be seated. The waitperson unwillingly gave us a table near another diner in an almost empty restaurant. When asked if we can sit on another table which was more private, she rudely responded that we cannot sit there as it is dirty. We were happy to wait for it to be cleaned but she bluntly refused and said it cannot be cleaned now as there are others things to do. Saw her simply walking back and chatting with other staff. Never experienced such rude behaviour in any restaurant before. Decided to walk away from the restaurant.

No wonder Birdies was all empty while all other restaurants in Sylvia Park were busy!

Date and time visited: 19/01/2020, 2.30pm

Note: the review reflects the customer service and not the food.

Very bad service!! Unprofessional, rude and arrogant staff. They treat customers as thieves. Beware of a server called Paul....he is the rudest server I have ever come across as he doesn't deserve to be in hospitality industry which is all about customer service and providing an experience. I was shocked to see their arrogance. Go there if you want to get embarrassed and spoil your day.

Wherever we go we always try hot wings.. these wings were juicy but not at all hot. Barely hot sauce on them so while they were tasty you couldnt say hot sauce on the menu description. The grilled corn was a winner and my fella liked the poutine but serving very generous and he couldnt finish it. I had the Korean open sandwich.. there are 2 to this which I hadn't realised and the boy didn't want one. It was out first time and we will definately be back to try more but we will be mindful of portion sizes! 😊

Have been here before for work functions. Came in for a lunch catch up with a friend but was actually pretty shocked at the staffs awkwardly unfriendly demeanour, for a restaurant like this. Seemed very bored and unwelcoming to have to serve and deal with us even while it was very quiet. Food was actually pretty decent but won’t be back.

Came here for a work dinner. Great atmosphere if you like it dim but which made it hard to read the menu for some of my far sighted coworkers. Although we ordered quite alot of food (Some chicken platters, fries and slaws) it all came out quite quickly, staff seemed pretty attentive. Unfortunately the food was rather disappointing with the chicken being pretty dry and there didn't seem to be much variation between the different kinds of chicken. The portions for the Caribbean slaw was small for the price not to mention it tastes like stuff from the supermarket. Ultimately if you're gonna have chicken for 80% of the menu you might as well make sure its not dry right? It wasn't terrible overall but Id probably just go to KFC next time.

I used to love coming here, the old menu was miles better. Have come 3 times since the new menu came on board, everytime food was cold & I had a sore tummy afterwards 😔

Stick to ordering chicken, best poutine we have had in nz and chicken dishes good but other dishes were ok. Wouldn't rush back but good for a mall place :) dont order the pork belly.
Nashi Dasgupta
Their location is awesome. Its a reallt spacious place and have a good amount of sitting area. I love their Chicken Bao. Very yummy. Their southern fried chicken was okay a bit dry. But their Crispy Chicken Bao is something I would totally go there again. Its so good and the salad is also yummy. I wish they had a bit nore options on their Menu. Its a good place for Drinks and tappas.
Andreea Simion
Food was good, but rotisserie chicken a little dry. Service was great.
Ajay Sobti
Very bad customer service and no flavour food. Informed staff about that but the attitude was we don’t care.

2.5 Rating! Came here for an early dinner there wasn’t much customers, service was rather lacking, staffs were not as attentive. Order their rotiserrie chicken. The coleslaw was terrible, it gave a very bitter taste at the end, had to request for a change or if the coleslaw was suppose to taste that way (apparently it does). They said it was a fresh batch, they gave us a replacement of fries instead. Food was underwhelming for the price.
Andrew Stephen
We were a table of about 15. Service was lacking. Table never got cleared and never asked for dessert.
Food was mediocre at best. Pricey for what it was.
Evaline Shandil
We come here all the time as it’s close to where I work
Everything is really nice here.
The food is delicious
The environment is beautiful
However some of the staff could work on their customer service (not all)
Claudia Slebos
Came here on a first table booking and absolutely loved the place! Great menu, great atmosphere and the food was delicious - loved the fried chicken selection. The menu is great for sharing and really reasonably priced. The service was impeccable! Our waiter Rhys went above and beyond to ensure we had a great dining experience, despite the restaurant being busy he was really attentive and explained the menu well. The owner is also lovely! I will definitely be back.
Georgia Ellen Lucas
Amazing service! Rhys was super helpful and gave us heaps of tips! He made our night

A missed opportunity, seriously lacking any flavour. Fried chicken didn't come out freshly fried, just warm. Could be so much better if things were flavoured and seasoned better.
Marama Kingi
We had the pork belly bao buns, korean spiced chicken open sandwich and a side of steamed greens. Mate, delicious! I am always happy to see a bit of pork fat and was not disappointed. Flavors were balanced just right and to was it all down with a monteith's apple cider. Bliss!

Came here yesterday for dinner. We ordered the chicken lover platter, which lets us try most of their chicken dish. The presentation was decent and I quite enjoy their fried chicken. It is quite pricey though. Also ordered the poutines and that was average and tasted kinda dull.

Ambiance: 4/5
Taste: 3.5/5
Value: 3/5

𝐁𝐁𝐐 𝐋𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧: My friends and I all agreed on this as our fav dish! Large portion, the lemongrass and ginger sauce (got a curry hints to it) goes really well with the grilled chicken with bone that is super juicy and soft! ⁣
2. 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬: flavourful and crispy! Love the sweet chill jam!⁣
3. 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐨 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐬: bun was soft, pumpkin slice was thick, makes a good vege dish! ⁣
4. 𝐂𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐁𝐫û𝐥é𝐞: Beautiful presentation. I love coconut and cream Brûlée but not really when they are combined tho.. The canned mango + coconut custard gives a little bit of sour taste that I don’t enjoy much. However, the lemonade sorbet on top was really refreshing! ⁣

A good place to eat with a friendly atmosphere. However, I got food poisoning from the chicken schnitzel and will likely not be returning in the near future.
PK
Food is good here, the Sichuan chicken was delicious, fried calamri had a bit of spice and korean chicken was ok just felt it was a bit dry.
Overall a good place to grab a bite..

Walking among the newly built restaurants at Sylvia Park can be a daunting task to choose where to eat. Until you see the sign "Birdie's" a large restaurant with a warm atmosphere. We were greeted at the door and ushered towards a comfortable little corner that was great for an isolated chat with friends.

The first clue to something being amiss was when they allowed one of our party members into the premises wearing a tight hugging tracksuit that was all one colour and sneakers that were bought in the 90s, once white, now yellowed by the wear of time. Obviously there are no dress standards at this restaurant.

The waitress was Keen to serve us and quickly took our orders, she suggested the fries knowing full well the ramifications of getting them. She also notified us that there was no chicken left for the burgers so we were unable to order them. I decided to go with the Korean chicken open sandwich, which I was assured was "spicy".

The food was brought to the table and the fries arrived, delicious shoestring fries presented in an easy to access bowl with a decent proportion of oily goodness. Already salivating I pondered if the common staple of a side of aioli will accompany these little potato treats. My wish was soon granted as I saw the waitress bringing the liquid nectar in a vessel that can only be described as a comical miniature old school glass milk bottle. How trendy I thought?
The waitress had a smirk and said.... Enjoy. Which I now know was an in joke with all staff as they watch all customers struggle to get any aioli out of these sauce fortresses.
The sauce container has a wide base that goes to a very narrow opening that is only a quarter full, the shoestring fries are long enough to get inside but there is no way you could get your fingers and some fries inside at the same time. This has obviously been designed for babies with fine motor skills to get the aioli, but unfortunately there were no babies with advanced motor skills and no one at the table had little baby hands either to be able to get any aioli out.
They purposely use the transparent glass so you can clearly see how much aioli you cannot get.
Now being a problem solver, I thought I'll just tip it upside down and wait for it to pour out, but because Birdies uses high quality aioli it sits at the bottom and doesn't budge.
I soon realised that you get so many fries because the staff think it's funny watching people struggle with the aioli.
If birdies is throwing out the aioli after diners have finished then they are losing massive amounts of money. If they are keeping the aioli remains and passing them to the next diners, I am very impressed because they are obviously saving a lot of money. I suspect the latter because there is no way that the staff would be able to get the aioli out either.

The Korean sandwich came and it was a flat bread that was cut in half, which was fine... But then they put all the toppings in the cut which was obscure. The only spice present in the sandwich was a half twist of pepper at best.

Overall the experience was great, has to be seen to be believed, only let down by impractical tiny little baby hand milk bottle aioli fortresses. Next time I'll bring the tweezers. Change the sauce vessels and it'll be 5 star.

food was really awesome(5 starts for food) but I am extremely disappointed in your customer service (2 stars for service),
there was one lady ,while serving she was banging utensils on our table that was bit annoying.
she gave coloring paper to our kids but no colors offered
Food was served but no water.not even one time we saw a smile on her face it was as if she was forced to work their.
i did not feel they where creating a positive dining experience.
i hope on my next visit ,i might just enjoy my meal that much more better service

Had a look at the online menu and popped in for dinner with my friend. The ambiance at the place is lovely, however, the service and quality of food is not worth the amount of money you end up paying for a simple meal. We paid approximately $75 for buffalo chicken wings, fried chicken burger, chicken schnitzel and a side of fries. Considering the burger is $19.50 without any fries I was really expecting it to be of high quality, but it had no flavor what so ever, no cheese and barely any salad, just a few drops of mayonnaise. The same chicken that was used in the burger was also used for the chicken schnitzel and it was just coated with parmesan cheese, no salad or any other items were included. There was no seasoning at all in the chicken and it was shocking to see that although it was two different meals, the same flavorless chicken was used in both without any sauces or seasoning for flavor. On top of that, the buffalo wings tasted as they had just been coated in bbq sauce. It was disappointing to end up being served food that was made at a lower quality than a takeaway place, and the staff never bothered to check if the food was okay. Maybe the other items on the menu are better but it was certainly not an experience that matched the rest of the reviews.

No staff came and served. No waiters even bothered to look at the table since went inside and sat there for 10-15m. No greetings no offering no no no no nothing. Had to get my own menu walk to counter ask to be served. Staff didnt pay much attention to customers. I wonder if there is manager here

This places menu is different to what's on zamato..they are expensive and the food isn't good and you get a tiny amount..I thought they had made a mistake and brought me someone else's entrée
But it turned out to be my main ..wtf ! As was the other two friends meals..ridiculous and very over priced..will not be going back and will be telling more mates about how horrible this place is
Breadzania
We were pleasantly surprised. The food is awesome. The menu is great and offered variety.. We ordered the platter with some sides. It was very very generous and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bbq lemongrass chicken is the star. The only thing that wasn't so good was the desserts as the banana bread was slightly dry. Other than that everything was delicious and will come back

Friendly wait staff, nice environment but the food just took way too long. After roughly 1 hour from the time we ordered, the food finally arrived. Thankfully the food was hot and tasty.
Wouldn't recommend for those that are wanting anything quick for lunch or dinner.

Was here for the premier of Avengers End Game and boy was the food and service great. Mixed platers were a treat and went well with the refreshments, bar and waiter staff were impressive to say the least as there were many people to serve. Well done!

Delish menu service was amazing very good. Highly recommend the potato and gravy and chicken wings are both amazing! Would recommend and we’ll be back again very soon

Has a new menu now compared to what Birdies had when they first opened. New menus has good flavours and variety. In terms of customer service our experience was quite disappointing with one person in our group not getting her order until rest of us finished our food, and she was starving waiting for the food. Seems the order had been placed but somehow hadn’t made it to the kitchen. Only after reminding them and asking twice that she actually got the missing main . When going to pay the bill and requested something be done about the poor service the manager just took off $2 from the main dish which was quite insulting and not appropriate as you would expect it to be waived or even charged at half price as a bare minimum. Also the waitress who waited our table was quite rude and wasn’t friendly most of the time and we had a similar experience from her the last time we visited as well a few months back. Overall wasn’t a great experience at this restaurant and wouldn’t really recommend.

Dined here on Thursday which happened to be the first day with their new menu. First of all, this new menu is such an improvement. Love the sharing dish concept, it's definitely how I prefer to eat. Love being able to get a taste of everything. The Sichuan fried chicken and the poutine would be my fave dishes. The mash and gravy side was friend #1s fav and the Korean chopped chicken was friend #2s fav. We all shared a coconut creme brulee and it too was delicious. We also had both the chicken and pork belly bao, id say they both needed more sauce as they were a little dry. The old menu did have quite a few more non chicken dishes, which we felt this new menu lacked, but it was still a very enjoyable meal. Staff were full of energy and more than friendly. Would def recommend if you're a chicken fan!

Wonderful staff, love the new menu. Very well priced and big portions for the kids menu. Everything came out with in 10 mins, will definitely be back!

Was in Sylvia Park and popped in here for lunch as I don't like food court food so thought this would be a nice lunch as the area it is in is adorable. The restaurant itself is pretty modern and has good decor however the menu doesn't have much to offer, not much basic salads or much of anything. Whole menu is chicken seeing as the name is birdies. Found it hard to pick something to eat as everything was very carby which i'm not a fan of. I ordered the rottiserie chicken on bread which was like a sandwich and I found it to be dry and flavourless. Had about 1/4 of it and was over it. Mum ordered the fried cauliflower and said it was dry and felt cardboardy. Just not worth the money and not somewhere I would give another chance.

We were shopping one day at Sylvia Park and stopped in. The place looks really nice inside. Service was a bit off when we were there. The platter looked delicious except for the big measuring cup in the middle. The food tasted good but was stone cold. There wasn’t much stuffing in the cup as well.

Been here a couple of times, food was a bit of a hit and miss for me. I really need to come back and try out their new menu to see what’s changed. Nice local place, the ambience here is stunning though

The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions generous. The service was quick and incredibly friendly, the waitress was also very familiar with the menu and gave us some good advice on what to order. No complaints and will definitely visit again!!
Claudynnlee53
Great food and customer service!! The portion sizes were value for money and the food came out nice and hot. The gravy was a bit average but all in all, a good experience.

The first time me and my girlfriend went to eat here we had a bad experience. The waiter took us to our table and then we were ignored for around 40 minutes, so we left without ordering any food. Reading the reviews at the time this seemed to be a common experience.

Really happy that we gave it a second chance as the food here is really great. Love the chicken and lamb rolls and also the quarter pack meals. The gravies are delicious!

Lisa
I was excited to try Birdies but unfortunately was disappointed at my time there. The waitresses had forgotten our order multiple times, even though the restaurant was empty, and had stood staring at us as a clique by the kitchen which was a bit off putting. The food was okay, the chicken croquettes were disappointing while the Eaton Mess was perhaps the highlight. I hope perhaps I had just come in at an off day, and will give it another go in a couple of months.
Trazy M Lata
It's a really nice place, we booked ahead so that we can get a seat for a large group. When we went it was happy hour so drinks were half off. The customer service is really great,we were checked up on all the time. I ordered the fries, the pumpkin dish and bread rolls. The bread rolls were so delicious that I ordered two more after. Overall, the food was really tasty 8.5/10. Would come again.

Popped in here for some lunch and was not disappointed. Super friendly staff (thanks Pakao!) and the meals were amazing. We will definitely be coming back!
Zanita Chunclair
Service here was great, both the girls who served us were attentive and accommodating of us sharing our meal. Ambience was also lovely, lots of light, comfortable seats and tasteful plants and artwork.

We ordered the chicken croquettes and five spice duck. The croquettes were quite yummy, but not overwhelmingly so as the filling could have done with a bit more flavour. The duck was tasty, but slightly overcooked (and expensive). It was difficult to eat as we received two cuts that consisted of mostly bones and cartilage. We ended up needing to ask for a sharper knife, which still didn’t do much. The dumplings which accompanied it were delicious though.

This was definitely a place with potential- we may have just had poor luck with our duck of cut. We would recommend if you are in Sylvia Park and looking for a nice place to eat! Unless you are looking for a nice plate to eat! 😉

Clean and spacious were my first impression. Came here on Sunday lunch time and we can’t decide what to order so we got their platter with side potatoes to try all different kind of meats (chicken, lamb, pork, beef). All taste delicious, leaving you to crave for more, especially their gravy is great topping to those meat. Price may be abit on the high side though, spent $72 for two. They do have rewards club though so you can get some $$ back for next visit.

Came by for lunch on Sunday. The dining area is quite large, particularly around the back but we opted for a table near the doors and kitchen. The rotisserie chicken looked amazing as did quite a few of their menu items like the duck and the lamb shoulder. Wanting to try a bit of everything we got the Rotisserie Tasting Board.

I also had a pina colada smoothie which was ok but tasted mostly of banana.

The platter was decently sized and looked good. Unfortunately, most of the meats were very dry. some had sauces on top but didn't really help. The gravy did but it made everything taste the same. It would've been nice to also have small labels to tell us which meats were what even though we were able to figure it out eventually. Also would have been nice to have a side of some sort like fries or bread, as it only had stuffing which wasn't meat.

Although the service was good, the food was quite the letdown.

My second meal at Birdies was a bit disappointing. The cocktail for starters was generic tasting. The fried courgette and crumbed chicken was OK. For mains I had the peach and halloumi salad. The halloumi was cold and hard and there was virtually no dressing.

The service was below average too. Our waiter took 30min to clear our plates, then another eternity to bring the dessert menu which we had to ask for. We gave up waiting for her to come take our order for dessert. This considering the restaurant was mostly empty.
Larissa Denton
We had a lovely family meal here which everyone including the kids, loved! The staff were nice and friendly and all the meat on our shared platter was very tender and tasty. Not a bland thing to be seen! We will be back for sure!

Not for me this restaurant,
I did not feel the care,
that a classy joint would give me,
no not great service here.
Our wait staff were amazing,
bringing food to the table was easy.
It’s the food that arrived that got me,
Chicken tough and dry and greasy.
Pannacotta bland and no fun
Dry sponge chucked on top
Meringue bits strewn all over
Like roadkill in SH1
No not for me this food joint
Value for money no way
Try other places before this one
And get enjoyment for what you pay!

I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time, and today, I finally did. Its such a cute place and the staff here were super friendly and efficient that it was both warm a d welcoming. The food is a little pricey , but I would think it's worth it. We just got the smaller share plates because we weren't that hungry , but of course we made from for dessert! Our favourite was the chicken croquette and the courgette chips! I'd heard a few great things about the pumpkin and duck fat potatoes so might come again to try those. Such a lovely place, I can't wait to come back and eat through the rest of the menu!

This place is in the Sylvia park mall eatery. Good music and efficient staff. The food is good, the beef cheeks cooked well, don’t need a knife to break it down into bite size portions. The Panna cotta was delicious, I’ve never had it served in a bowl like that which was pleasantly surprising. Definitely recommend that. I think you get the value for your money here. Great place for after work drinks or catching up with friends👍🏾💯.

Conveniently located at Sylvia Park, nice deco and seating areas. Service is great. Tried the quarter chicken with gravy, fries and coleslaw. It’s was delicious and a large serve. Tasty meal accompanied with a small bun filled with herbs. Great meal and great service.
Tan.ned
eh. it's average most of the things we ate were lacking seasoning. Service was good though! The piñacolada was nice but the dessert was also just average. The parfait was too hard and the brownie mousse sandwich was also too hard. Definitely doesn't taste like they were made that day

I love this place. Their chicken Rotisserie is amazing along with the peanut smoothie. Highly recommend for lunch. Customer service is also great 👍🏾

Beautiful ambiance. Stylish and cosy.
Best part is, there is plenty of seating area.
Great for a large group.

I do enjoy the peanut banofee shake...delicious
And the food is good too.

Staff and service is friendly.

Overall, its a good place to go if u in Sylvia Park

Service was EXCELLENT here I could not fault the service here I have been around to many places and this place hit the top ratings for service for me. The server was great the floor manager inviting and I was always greeted with professionalism and a smile.

Ambience was great and food good, I wished the lamb was a bit more melt in my mouth, but was still really good. Duck was good I prefer the Chinese places though but still good. Crockettes were the best. Fries good coffee average. Would’ve liked to Taste more of the flavour

Overall experience. Excellent. I will go here again but I’m not in a rush

Went to this restaurant with my family for lunch today. Was quite disappointed with the food and lack of service. The chicken was dry and bland. I had to ask my sis for her cup of water to relief the dryness of the chicken as the bottle of water is empty and no one came to replace it. The soft bread was dry and crumbly. The salad on my bread was no where near fresh. The chicken croquettes have dry chicken too. Overall, the flavour of the food are just underwhelming. Really mediocre. Service is dull and poor acknowledgment of customers' needs. The only positive is the Asian customer service guy who helped my sister to transfer the baby stroller down the staircase. Won't be coming to this restaurant again.. will rather go to other restaurants in Sylvia park.

Came here for breakfast prior to looking around the shopping complex, greeted and seated right away (mind you, it was quiet-so pretty easy to do). Partner had the brioche french toast, they ran out of that bread so substituted it for something else and I got the chicken croquettes Benedict and we both got the peanut banoffee smoothies.
The meals came out, could not eat the kale as it had been just chucked on the plate, not wilted like the menu said.
The waitress did ask if I had received the egg for the eggs benedict, I told her no and also did bring up the fact that the kale did not match the menu description.
Went to pay, nice of the establishment to knock off some $$ due to faults with my dish. Points given for putting my sauce on the side.

Would like to come back to have lunch or dinner here as the menu I would imagine would have a bit to choose from

Came here before a movie. Let the staff know we had an hour to eat. They were very helpful.
The entrees came quick. The courgette chips were terrible. Thick slivers soggy and greasy and mostly flavorless. The chicken croquettes were excellent. Tasty well textured and seasoned with a delicious sauce.
The main was the chicken halloumi cheese and peach salad. The peaches were out of season, the halloumi fantastic and the chicken nice. The salad overall was a bit dry.
Overall the food was good but could be better. I’d happily go back to try again.

Roti (also known as bread in english) is supposed to be soft and pliable... whatever i had last night..the rotisserie pork shoulder under the 'on bread' menu was hard and crunchy.. i asked the server if that was how its served at birdies.. she said yes.. its a waste of almost $16 when all you get is a hard piece of dry overdone asian pancake with tasteless pork and a bit of kimchi. I didn't taste the miso at all. If you need lessons on how to cook the roti, there are 2 restaurants near you that has roti on the menu ..otherwise, please inform customers that what you serve is not soft and flaky, the way it is supposed to be. It just feels like you are cheating people or introducing the wrong thing as this item was on the 'birdies favorites'list. My mate ordered the strayberry panacotta dessett.. the white bits on the top, it was soft and soggy.. was meringue supposed to taste like that?

A good option for meat lovers! We had the smaller of the two sharing plates, and it was a great size for two (hungry) people, with the addition of the yummy triple-cooked duck fat potatoes.

You might look across the way at Cleaver & Co, which also has TONS of meat and tasting platters, but I liked this platter better than what I’ve had at Cleaver & Co. What I liked was that all the rotisserie meats were different and equally tasty. Standouts (and which I would happily order as their own mains in the future) were the beef with its AMAZING purée, and the chicken, which I actually enjoyed more than the duck - very tender with beautifully seasoned and crispy skin.

The plating could be tweaked - at our small round table the tasting platter was on a wooden board on a high metal stand, so it had no edge, and was in danger of tipping over. It was also up just above eye level, and I would have found it easier to serve ourselves and visually enjoy the food if it were six inches lower.

Service was fantastic- we did arrive quite early before it got busy, but every staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful, making sure we knew about the happy hour specials etc. When the tasting platter came to the table the man who brought it went through each item to tell us what it was.

Overall good atmosphere - fresh and interesting interior, good music (both in volume and playlist), and I’d be quite happy to pop in here again.

No photos of our food - we dug in too quickly!

Had a really good service and the food was good as well. We had the big sharing platter for our table since there’s 5 of us and got to try the different meats which was great. Also good to know about the 49% discount on drinks.

Here is another fairly big eatery (definitely not French as listed in Zomato) in Sylvia Park Shopping Centre, opposite to Hawker & Roll. We tried 3 starters to share - the hoisin beef rump, Szechuan roast duck with beetroot & roti crisps, and the coconut chicken with crispy shallots. The chicken was a cold dish - refreshing & slightly spicy; the thin piece of (rice) cracker has an additional texture. The beef was very nice & tasty. The 3 pieces of duck were tough & one of them was with a big bone, and there wasn't much to eat - a big thumb down. The dessert sandwich was interesting & special.
(Food - 4/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 4/5)
Visited on 3 September 2018

I used to love coming to birdies alone for my lunch.. until today, I waited for so long to be seated and the staff noticed me but didn't bother. It was awfully rude and poor customer service. I stood right by the sign which asked for customers to wait to be seated. There was several staff members who noticed me. Even if all of them have different positions, they should be a tad versatile and welcome a customer, have them seated at least. Thanks to the Indian gentleman who was in the food prep area.. who gave me a warm smile and tried alerting staff. Still got ignored because one waitress seemed to be working and wasn't really alert of her surroundings. Will change this review when I see improvements in their services. But don't know if I'm willing to go back after the way I was treated today.

Also from the other time I came in- you guys need to work on that hot chocolate . Tasted like cold water and a dash of cocoa powder. Very sad when this place has so much potential and the amount of money invested in this business.

Greeted by friendly staff when we arrived. Service was good. Food was delicious. My roast pork shoulder was juicy and well cooked. Jus was full of flavour. The apple and kumara were nice additions. Most of my group enjoyed their meal. The only let down was the crackling with was not that crispy.

They also had an issue with consistency, and while it didn't affect the quality of food, it makes you wonder if you'll receive the same thing twice. Two of my friends ordered the Birdie's Quarter Pack and both chicken portions were drastically different. Their bread rolls were also different. One was plain, the other herbed. We genuinely thought we had been given two different plates of food when they arrived.

Still, I'll be back to try more dishes out.

Edit: Wanted to update my review in lieu of the menu changing since I've been back after a month. Can I just give a shout out to our waitress (brunette with the bob hair cut) for being so amazing throughout the night with 12 of us. Food quality has definitely increased. The bread rolls are now bomb! My pork shoulder has gone off the menu and has been replaced with what was described as an amazing pork chop. My croquettes were damn delicious and desserts went down a treat. Mocktails were great and nice to see a menu change for the better.

It’s an average place, quite a nice atmosphere very pleasing to the eye in my opinion food is pretty good but what I found the lacked was the customer service. Didn’t get water for about an hour and then it was never refilled, staff didn’t emailed and made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We went on a Wednesday night and they were trying to kick us out straight after we finished dinner but wanted to sit and talk. But ea food is nice it’s a little on the more expensive side, like I’m mean expensive for a student.

It's OK. Had entrees chicken croquet (amazing), bread rolls (lovely) and duck fat potatoes (ehhhh). Had the roast pork for my main. Nice but just nice. Definitely had better but to be fair the meat on its own was very good. Drink specials were reasonable . The $25 bird nest dessert was a disaster. Poorly paired, to many items in one bowl. Not as big as you would expect and the "pancake" tasted dry and burnt. When we told the waitress she said "thank you for your feedback". Rather then tell us the restaurant was closing they cleared our entire table including our cups of water. Would have loved a nice hey ladies just to let you know we're closing in 10 minutes instead. The service was good but not genuinely friendly. Overall ok but it's not a restaurant I would recommend to friends and family.

The food was absolutely incredible with great portions and delicious food. The service was impeccable and the staff were extremely attentive. This is one of the best places I've been to, definitely the best in Sylvia park.

These guys are just all around amazing! Lovely staff, great drinks and fabulous food for the whole family. One particular male manager was an absolute delight and made our experience a definite 5/5. Would definitely recommend

Our first time dining here. While this is a birdie restaurant, we didn't order any 'birds'. Had a steak and a Moroccan lamb dish. The portion was good and the meat were nice and tender. Prices were a bit steep but they tasted good so no complaints. Shared a chocolate desert between us. Will be back. Love the ambience too.

3pm on a Sunday. The place wasn’t busy, we didn’t book but luckily they had a table for 10 when I asked if we could be seated. Once seated we were left menu-less for so long we had to ask. Eventually a waiter came by gave us water which was finished instantly and not replaced she then asked if we would like some more drinks whilst we waited for other guests. Our guests then arrived and the REAL wait began. We has to ask for more water after giving up on waiting for service.
By this time it was 4 O’clock a bartender came over to ask if we would like to order more drinks “before someone takes our food order”
some drinks were brought over and we were shocked to find a lemon lime bitters was served in a much larger glass compared to a previous order at the same table. A bit unfair to have a difference in quantity for different customers on the same table...
At 4:50 we still hadn’t had anyone approach us to take food orders, I was considering leaving as we had been here for nearly 2 hours and were fed up with the service but the birthday boy was set on ordering because he was hungry. We got the attention of a waitress to order. 4x triple cooked duck fat potatoes
4x Roast Carrots 1x Greens
Whole Roast Duck, Whole Roast Chicken and Lamb shoulder. 20 minutes wait, not too long... but considering we had been waiting to eat for ages we were getting impatient.
The potatoes were disappointing I was really excited for these as I thought they’d be unlike any potatoes I had ever eaten but they taste the same as the ones at my local roast takeaway (not triple cooked in duck fat). The carrots were delicious. The chicken was yum! The duck wasn’t a highlight. The lamb was relatively dry. We never received our greens. The serving size/the way the meat is cut is quite large so expect to cut the meat yourself if you don’t like large portions.
One male staff member was really lovely when he did come to our table but other than that service is super slack. Expect a wait even if they’re not busy. Food is good but over priced. Was excited to try something different but was sadly disappointed. Would love to give a higher rating but sadly cannot recommend this place.

This place kinda reminded me of Bird n Boy and Bird on a Wire so gave it a try, i only had the quarter pack and frys and my date had the chook roll and chippies with looks like Parmesan sprinkle.
Chook was a bit on the dry side but i guess the breast is the driest part of the chook, like to come back to try the grills later but i did love the ambience of the site and was quite busy and popular.

Food was great... but service was really poor and it wasn’t super busy either. Struggled to get served and one of the team was just plain rude. Don’t think I will go back.

Ate here last night and it was fab! Just the two of us so we shared 3 small plates - Cauliflower, Miso Eggplant and Duck. All were delicious. Staff were great and friendly. Cauliflower was a standout for me - cooked and seasoned to perfection. Just a note, Duck has bones.

Came to try out the new eating area. Chicken here is delicious, it’s their specialty and they do roast chicken well. The cold chicken Thai salad was good but I give the duck a miss. Overall a nice slightly better/healthier place to eat than the food court when you’re out shopping. They give the kids a little drawing and crayons for colouring in which is nice too.

good food. middies said it was better than her last visit. service is poor. had to get up grab a waiter to take our order and clear the table.

Highly anticipated coming here as it was a new place in Syliva. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. We ordered a half rotisserie chicken and a sandwich, I found both quite bland and the sandwich very dry. The chicken is served on a stand which is really awkward as you can't see it from a sitting position. I enjoyed the fries the most.

The service was also average, the main waiter was not friendly and didn't smile at all.

I probably wouldn't return especially as there are plenty of other options available in Sylvia.

Great place for groups and, surprisingly, not too busy on a Saturday night (though we did still book ahead). The food is quite similar to Bird on A Wire but the restaurant is not as casual because it's not geared for takeaways. Ordering a whole chicken offers the most value for money - and it's delicious. The person who looked after us was so patient and helpful in walking us through the menu and provided great service throughout our meal. Would come here for a budget-friendly dinner with friends without having to compromise on comfort and service.

Literally the best duck fat potatoes I've ever had, and the other food isn't bad too, very decent serving sizes. Great service and ambience, will dine again.

Part of the newly opened restaurants in the food strip of Sylvia Park is Birdies All Day.
Got myself a whole roast chicken, mixture of roast vegetables and duck fat roasted potatoes.

The chicken was satisfactory. Large size but a tad dry in some areas like the breast meat. The duck fat roast potatoes were crispy and tasty.

I did like the fact they served it with a large saucer (a quality Pyrex jug) of gravy so you could late her everything in delicious gravy. I also liked the table cloths which gave off a French touch to the restaurant.
New eatery and I've already heard a lot of positive things about this place. Birdie's duck fat potatoes and chicken gravy are to die for.

Two of us shared a half chicken, char grilled squid, and duck fat potatoes on a Wednesday evening. Not much of a crowd so service was amazing.

Best thing is that they keep their offerings simple, yet the flavours, textures and portions are very well orchestrated.

Beautiful interior but the only thing I would recommend is to have a salt grinder (that suits decor) instead of having the classic Cerebos salt.

Overall, really enjoyed our meal experience and would highly recommend this place. Will be back again! Thanks for the hospitality.

Updates (17/10/2018): I've been back to Birdie's a few times now. Their duck fat potatoes are still as delicious. And now from 5-7pm, they have a selection of $10 cocktails. (Just double check with them when you visit).

Who doesn’t love chicken? Birdies All Day is 1 of 6 new eateries opened on the suave Grove Dining Lane. You will step into a beautifully large interior, with concrete floors and a mixture of seating options for comfort or casualness. Excited to eat my way through these new options, a friend and I popped in for a casual weekend lunch.

Friday 7pm din-din before the beautiful people rolled in. I was initially reluctant to try this place. because I could see the kitchen staff thru the windows.
So I waltzed in, no booking and easy enough to get seating this time of the evening. Nice clean place. We sat by the windows so we could look out. I wasn't impressed with the poor finishes on the interior, left over masking tape still visible and poor painting and finishing on the window trim in the corner by plate and cutlery station.
Ordered the "grilled whole fish for the table", duck fat red potatoes and the chop chop chicken from a very attentive waitress, we were well entertained by the staff before food arrived. The fish was good; preferred it a little charred but that's my preference. The potatoes were excellent, mind you anything with duck fat is good I could've eaten these by themselves. the chop-chop chicken was recommended as being popular but not something I'd order for seconds. Not a fan of the spread on it?
It's early days and I think they will find their groove! Good luck birdies

Visited Birdies last week on a Tuesday night before catching a movie. Good location, Ample parking around Sylvia Park complex. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and got to choose where we would sit. Another staff member took our order and the food was out on our tables in just under 20min. Food was yummy, tasty and I will definitely come back to taste other items on the menu. Price is a tad high to me though. Service by staff was pleasing, she would always check on us if we required more drinks or anything else. Overall happy with my experience.

The ‘ French wannabe Nandos’ is probably how I would describe Birdes All Day, succulent and flavorsome chicken with some of the best fries there is in Auckland. Birdies do it’s food well but fall short in some other areas.

I’ll first say that I enjoyed my food here, the chicken was succulent, flavorful and a great texture. My colleagues also enjoyed the food. However everything else really points at bad management, first off when we first came in it took 10-15 minutes before someone would come and sort out a place for us to sit, I will caveat this point with the fact that the restaurant was bustling and there was quite the crowd. But we had called out to waiters and waitress that just ignored us, that was bad. When we were eventually seated we made our order and were told that it’ll probably be 10-15 minute due to the volume of customers. Cool, that’s reasonable. Our food took half an hour to get to us!
Overall with the service, I consider Birdies to be quite expensive.

We were absolutely famished! So overall our experience was quite mixed, I am scheduled to come back for dinner for an event so I’ll reserve my final judgment for this place.
For now its:

Showstopper: Chicken and Fires

Overall Grade: B

Service was terrible, chicken dry and miso eggplant came with mystery yoghurt and didn't taste of miso.

Won't be coming back as was also quite dear

Re-Review: Feb 2018
Firstly big ups to the Management of Birdies who took on my feedback & had open communication about it.
I happily visited them again & could already see how a lot of the hard work has been put in around service & food standards.
On this visit we ordered the Birds & Bees cocktails which was really good - a nice balance of flavours & something we would definitely order again. Also tried their cocktail of the day which had pear, cinnamon etc... very nice again.
For food we had the chicken roll which was a generous portion, and the quarter chicken which was well cooked - still juicy with nice flavour on the skin. The gravy is so good! Not to salty, with a real chicken flavour. Also the duck fat potatoes which are so yum you just can’t stop eating them. They come with a kind of butter on them but make sure you add some gravy.
Service was awesome, really friendly & engaging. Happy to return when at Sylvia Park next

Jan 2018:
I had high hopes for Birdies, and some of those hopes were met, others not so much.
Service was mostly okay however a lot of time was spent trying to flag down a staff member for an extra drink or things like side plates which weren’t delivered with the breads & dips.
The drinks were all okay - a small but interesting cocktails menu.
The food was a bit hit & miss unfortunately - in fact it would have meant a rating of 3 however a few other positives have meant a 3.5.
The rotisserie chicken was delicious- although a friend received a 1/4 portion which was only a leg & a wing. Very strange and disappointing. The 1/2 portions received by other people at our table were reasonable.
The meat platter had some meat which was really delicious, some which was disappointing. A great idea for larger parties but I wouldn’t order this again.
The salads were very expensive for the size especially with the addition of what was supposed to be lamb shoulder - this was mostly over cooked & had lots of gristle on it. Goode Bros does this much better.
The duck fat potatoes & fries were delicious. Chicken croquettes were well flavoured as was the fried cauliflower.
The rolls were a decent portion & came with gravy as well.
So all & all some highs & lows. Won’t rush back in a hurry but hope some things will improve. Definitely other similar style restaurants doing much better.

Came for lunch. Beautiful setting. Open and spacious with high ceilings and very clean. Love that you can see the kitchen. Shared small plates on recommendation by the owner. Coconut chicken very flavoursome and just spicy enough. Croquettes were so good and the duck was also fantastic. We also had the large meat platter and all the meat was well presented and beautifully cooked. Plus the birds n vee's cocktail was amazing. Will be back for sure.

I had a really lovely time at Birdies last night. The food was very tasty and with generous portions. I can recommend the chicken croquettes, duck fat potatoes and the miso eggplant. The drinks were also very nicely presented and refreshing.

Just came here for dessert and drinks today but after looking at the menu I'm sure I'll be back for dinner.

I ordered the Cheesecake Mousse which was a good portion and looked very pretty. I enjoyed the mousse and pineapple. However they were on top of a short bread cookie which to me just didn't work. It was very hard to eat as the shortbread is so hard and just didn't go (taste and texture) with the mousse or pineapple at all. My friend ordered the Chocolate Delice which was a beautiful texture, had a nice hazelnut flavour and the cherries were a nice touch.

We ordered the Rose spritzers to drink and they were light and refreshing. Service was professional. The restaurant is super spacious and very quiet when we were there but would be great for special occasions or to go as a group.

Overall great food and great vibe. Had the pumpkin, kale l, Farro and seed salad with roast chicken, very generous serving and sooo delicious. Fresh, well cooked, crunchy with a bit of zing (pickled cucumber). I would’ve liked a bit more dressing but asides from that a very well balanced and filling salad to have.

My partner had the chicken roll which was tasty, and a good serving size. Shoestring fries with aioli- purrrrfection! I could actually eat that every day.

Beer selection excludes the basics, so you gotta be willing to try something new. Love the glasses here. Hipster opulence- an oxymoron, but one that fits with the decor.
————————————

Second time here, for dinner this time and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Had the brisket roll, which is actually on rye and was a great rendition of the Reuben, with pickles and brisket instead of just pastrami and saurkraut. Had to have the shoestring fries - yummy, and tried the chicken croquettes, which might as well have been just potato croquettes? The chicken was a bit lost in there albeit a very delish dish. Must try the Greywacke sav blanc. Overall great experience, on a busy Friday night- would I keep coming? Yup! Sure will. The atmosphere is 100 times better for dinner service than it is for lunch.

New restaurant in the Sylvia Park shopping mall. Good setup and decor. I ordered the eggplant with kimchi and the vine tomato salad bowl. Both delicious. Husband and friend each ordered something off the deli roll section and both said were good. We also got a side of shoe string chips which were good dipped in the little pottles of gravy that came with the rolls. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was I ordered a Bombay gin and tonic and ended up paying for a $12 Hendricks which I thought was a bit pricey. The other thing that could be improved are the salt shakers. They served iodised salt in the cheap blue packaging which I personally don't mind, but thought they could at least replace with a better looking salt shaker. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Chicken was a bit dry, good thing there was gravy and lots of it. Ordered 1x whole chicken plus fries and veges between 4 of us. In general food is alright. Presentation wise everything looks nice, decor inside is simple but elegant.

Beautifully decorated! We went on a Wednesday midday when it wasn’t that crowded yet.

We got Charred Squid, Miso Grilled Eggplant, Szechuan Roast Duck from the Smalls to share; and a Quinoa & Beetroot Birdie Bowl with Chicken between 2.

Food comes all at once, and they give you individual plates for sharing, which I thought was superb! The sharing culture is becoming more common which is really cool!

Szechuan Roast Duck was probably my favourite; sauce bursted with flavour of sweet and salty and the Duck was cooked to perfection. Beetroot was full of flavour too! Puff pastry was slightly cheesy, dense and crunchy and melted in the mouth. The cream cheese ganache added the perfect touch and texture.
My next favourite was the Quinoa and Beetroot Birdie Bowl! Such a generous serving of chicken! Soft cauliflower found at the bottom of the mountain of marinated shredded chicken, with quinoa and beetroot both cooked to absolute 10/10 and goat’s curd for creamy cheesiness.
Charred Squid was a bit bland, and a little unexciting. However, spuds were roasted amazingly; crunchy skin but soft inside. Squid was good though! Usually it’s easy to overcook it and hence it’s chewy, but the Squid here was a delight to eat! Tomatoes and olives were nice too!
Eggplant was nice, but portions were a bit small. Flavours were good, loved the yoghurt purée AND THE KIMCHI WAS A GENEROUS TOUCH! Really amped up the flavours.

Service was amazing and presentation of the dishes were well done! Would definitely be a recommended place from now on! It set us back by $37.50 each split between 2.

Food: 10/10
Price: 8/10
Ambience: 10/10
Service: 10/10

I visited on boxing day evening.I ordered half chicken roasterie with hot sauce and side as fries with aioli.Ordered tap beer as drinks. Food was amazing and so fresh.Quality of food was very good.Chicken was tender and juicy.Gravy goes well with chicken. Fries are seasoned with flavours and delicious to taste.I recommend who love chicken to try this place. They have great cocktails too.
Thanks

Had lunch here last week with a friend. We were led to the restaurant part but chose to sit by the bar area where it's more spacious.

We ordered half chicken, tomato salad and fries. The chicken came with a delicious gravy, tender and juicy. Not sure about coming back tho since the food didn't exactly left much of an impression on me.

Went to Birdies tonight. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The menu is a little confusing. You choose meat sides and salad separately. Make sure you do choose some salad, the table next to us just ended up eating a plate of meat. We chose half a chicken, a mango salad and potatoes in duck fat. This was plenty for the two of us. The food was very good and fresh. The price was very good, I will definitely go there again.

Went for dinner tonight with two friends. Great vibe, loved the decor and the wait staff where incredibly friendly and helpful. Amazing quality food and drinks, enjoyed a variety of things from the menu and my whole group enjoyed everything we tried!

My only minor complaint was the wait time for drinks (it was a busy Friday night), however our waiter was incredibly good at trying to push them through to get them to our table quicker!

Definitely would recommend and will definitely be going back

Food 5/5
Service 4/5
Ambience 5/5
Would I come back? Yes

Came here on a Sunday night. I really liked how spacious and aesthetic the interior was. Had pretty high hopes for the food because Birdie’s menu is rather fancy and a bit more expensive than what I’d usually pay for during a casual dinner out.

What we ordered
Lamb Deli Roll: The highlight of this was definitely the bread, it was toasted perfectly - crispy and not burnt at all. The fillings were also well seasoned, not dry and flavour was enhanced with the little pot of dressing that came with it.

1/4 Rotisserie Chicken: I’ve never really been a fan of rotisserie chicken because of the texture, so admittedly I wasn’t expecting much from this. However I was pleasantly surprised because the chicken we got wasn’t too dry, and was effectively complemented by the gravy.

Chicken Croquettes: I loved the chicken croquettes!! Outside crispy and inside soft and creamy. They literally fell apart when we cut them with our knives. You only get five croquettes but I think these are worth the price. Also very filling because of the cream.

Fries with Aioli: I honestly think these are the best fries I’ve had in a while. Usually, fries decrease in quality as they cool but the fries from Birdie’s still stayed crispy even when cool. They were well seasoned and I couldn’t stop eating them! I’m considering going back to Birdie’s just to buy the fries.

The price was pretty decent for the amount of food we got. I was satisfied with the portion sizes. When split between two it ended up at around roughly $25 each.

One thing I think Birdie’s could work on is the service. I raised my hand for water and wasn’t seen by the waitress. (She just walked right past me) However, I’m aware this is a relatively new restaurant and the staff are still being trained which is why I wasn’t too bothered about this. They did come along and check up on us several times though, which I found pretty considerate.

Overall, I really enjoyed my dining experience at Birdies and would be keen to come back to try more food from their menu. (I have yet to eat their desserts!)
