Review Mt Albert Bbq Noodle House - Auckland

I come here most Sundays for lunch. I enjoy their won ton soup a lot! Great service, big portions of food that is served really fast after ordering. Prices are awesome too!

Customer service is excellent. They are patient, polite, and welcome. They listen and explain their food to us well. Food price is cheap and it is served with huge portion. I have never finished all of food by myself. I always ask for containers to take it home. Parking is on the street and it's a bit difficult as you have to do parallel and it is near traffic lights.

This has been my go to restaurant for those late night munchies for years now. For only $16 you get a large plate that only takes a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes to get to you. Service is always quick and swift with nice and friendly staff.
Gech “Nai” Dam
Food is good and tasty. Resonable price and portion is good. The service is ok

Yes, the food has no doubt yum and cheap, it only costs you average $13 to get a good portion of nice Chinese or we should probably say Cantonese. With easy access on the great north road just across the mt Albert train station. It has been famous for its yummy but delicious menu for years. Although you may see some not so positive image in the surrounding area. Try not to focus on it, simply enjoy a nice meal

This is my favourite place to eat! It’s super cheap, good quality, wide range and the atmosphere is always busy with chatting and food. THEY ALWAYS PUT HEAPS ON THE PLATE TOO! My favourite dish is the Wonton Noodle Soup 🍲 DELICIOUS!

Resonable price, large amount of food and great flavour. I was great time to have lunch here. I strongly recommend to enjoy these foods.

Awesome place to dine took 5 people out for dinner costed $96 and couldn't finish the meals so plenty to take away. Located in Mt Albert but parking is definitely the biggest downfall as there are not many places to park so most times have to walk from where ever you find one. Would highly recommend but definitely go on an empty stomach because you won't be disappointed by the portion sizes.

First time to try this place & dined "alfresco". The place was dainty and service was quick. Enjoyed the food we ordered. NZ Covid 19 protocol guidelines on gatherings were observed/followed.

Go to for those drunken nights place wasn’t as packed which was great as it usually means you get your food quicker Salty crispy chicken is my favourite from this place Service is always quick had the combination noodles and 1 kg of bbq pork the bbq pork was quite dry however still edible !! You have the option to sit outside or inside i wouldn’t Recommend sitting outside late at night as a lot of drunks and homeless stand around across the road or nearby apart from that good food for the price you pay for

When a place has this much press and been operating for as long as it has been, you know it's going to be good.

It was a crisp cold Friday night. Winter is here and I'm craving some hearty Chinese food. Mt Albert Noodle House came through with the goods. Service was efficient and friendly and portions were awesome. Notable standouts were the nasi goreng and the chicken and lamb bbq skewers! The spicy chicken and sizzling beef and cumin were great too. I would go as far to say that the fried rice ranks in the top 3 I've eaten in Auckland. Seriously. I'd make the trip to Mt Albert just for the fried rice. All in all, solid location.

I enjoyed the Bbq fried noodles - they were served very quickly. The dining area is nicely decorated and food portions are good value for money.

Crispy pork on rice was so good, would recommend to ask with no soy sauce and not too much rice or add extra pork very good crunchy and salty! Also got beef rice noodles so good both plates are huge and didnt finish it so yeah definitely will have to take some home but heats up nicely night of or day after 😍

Staff/service: 5/5
Venue: N/A
Price/portion: 4.5/5

I ordered the beef wah tan hor and salted fish chicken fried rice each at $12. we ordered chicken fried rice during covid level 3, food we got was full of oil and found hairs at the bottom, called the business and they said for refund however it's an H&S issue during such an epidemic

Would give a 0. Thought to stray from the Mt Albert noodle house next door and give momotea a try and I wish I hadn’t. Found a lovely bug underneath my steamed dumplings. Gross and never coming back and never should you.

Great value for money with huge portions. Taste can differ on three day but pretty decent. Service is okay

I am a die hard fan of good chicken fried rice and nothing has tasted better than this place especially for this price!! I’ve never once had a problem until today. I ordered chicken fried rice and I was eating nicely until I found not 1, not 2 but 6 strands of long hair! It put me off and I was so reluctant to say anything (cause I’m quite timid) but I asked for a new plate and they politely obliged. Just step up your hygiene practices please, I don’t want to have to look for another staple takeaway place.

While, this is the dirtiest restaurant I see in akl,I order a curry beef on rice, and the stuff in the back made it a take away order, after he found I will eat there, he try to take it out from the take away box,but he failed,then............he dump the box and drop the food on table, put the food in plate with his dirty hand.......when I pointed his behaviour out,he even denied.....lol
Don't go there again....trust me

The portions are good. My complaint is over the past few weeks the quality has gone down. I usually order combination meat fried rice, and there used to be a generous amount of chicken, beef and BBQ pork. The past few weeks they've gotten very stingy. There is very little meat, once they pretty much gave me chicken fried rice even though I paid for a combination meat fried rice. The other time there was 1 piece of beef and no BBQ pork.

My other complaint is that the BBQ pork does not seem fresh. It just hangs in the warmer. And if you order duck, it's not fresh either, they heat it up in the microwave.

I've always thought about going to the place next door, but I feel bad because I always come here. But next time I'm trying next door, sorry.

Not THE place for late night food, but it’s at least A place in AKL to be open late at night. We got the char siu and bbq pork on rice to share amongst four of us which was enough to feed our late night craving :)

Food wise, it’s decent enough. Service wasn’t too bad - our food came out pretty quickly.

s/o to the owner and workers there hustling through the night 💛

I love going back to BBQ noodle house, yummy food and fast service. We love the free NIDO oriental soup. we always order tentacles, sweet and sour pork and crispy noodles.
Aisne
Food is good for the cheap price your paying. Portions are very big so that’s a good thing as well as the huge variety. Would be nicer if water was served in glass cups and not plastic. Also if the general decorations and interior were more modern.
Pig Cat
Huge portion but poor food. Just for filling up the stomach. Not recommend the bbq duck or pork. Cheapest lunch around.

But I saw many customers from different cultures and students as well. They seemed quite happy with the food. Maybe I picked the wrong dishes.
Siow Fong Chen
Staff are very friendly but food is average in my opinion. The portion is huge though so it would be popular with people looking for great value in terms of quantity.
Foodaholic
I was here for lunch on a weekday and ordered beef brisket on rice. The beef brisket tasted good served on well cooked rice. . Good portions of food served for the price paid.
Al Vincent
I ordered the pork spare ribs and they gave me a plate full of broccoli and cauliflower with around 5 tiny bits of spare ribs. Vegetables does not even taste fresh.
Natasha R
I think this is a great place to come to with an easy to please group with extra huge appetites. They probably do an ok fried rice and other deep fried/BBQ food. I got beef brisket noodle soup which might be the wrong thing to get here. The broth was made up of two discernible layers; a generic chicken flavoured bouillon and a weak starch thickened stewed brisket stock. It came with enough noodles for me to put into two takeaway container, a polite mention of bok choy, ~ok stewed brisket and chunks of fried potato (again, great if you are very hungry or famished). I left the broth, packed away the rest, if I ever return it will be with a horde of friends who appreciate big quantities of food.
Kate Lauren
Food is delicious and cheap, customer service isn’t good but will never stop going just because the food is just too good of a deal! Can’t go pass $10 on a whole meal for two to share
Mark
awesome, great food, excellent portions and just the best service. probably the best chinese restro for kiwi tastes in auckalnd. without a doubt, the best duck you can get - they perform magic - you have to have some duck.

I went on a weekday just for a walk in mt albert market and found quiet rush in this restaurant, so thought of giving a try so ordered chicken dumplings and it was really made of real chicken and cabbage and quantity was amazing..arnd 20 for $10, will surely come back and try anthr scintillating items.

Love visiting this restaurant. No nonsense, simply chinese food without frills.
Food 4.8/5
Ambience 4/5
Value for money 4.9/5
Portion sizes 4.9/5

Yummy food, large servings, cheap prices! We will be back.
$9 for a massive serving of chicken fried rice with heaps of meat.
All up dinner for 2 was $23 with enough to take home for another meal each.
The service could be improved. We had to ask for our meat skewers and the meals came out one at a time. The menu was dirty with something sticky on it.
Destiny Mackay
My partner and I come here about once a month (sometimes twice) and we can’t get past this meal. We order it every time because it’s SO GOOD! Food 5/5 always yummy. Ambience 3/5 quite loud and noisy. Price 5/5 cheap and big portions. Cleanliness 1/5 this is the only let down, quite dirty place. Overall you pay for what you get.
Lala
We come here almost once a month. It's delicious and cheap. The service is always good, we usually get our food within 10 mins and the serving size is very generous. If you can get over the busy ambience and the sometimes oily/sticky cutlery (similar to a hawker-like vibe) then it's a great place for a quick meal. Parking can sometimes be a problem since it's very limited and there's always so many people eating in the area. The man that always sits in front (I'm assuming is the owner) walked up to each table earlier and told us that there were cars being towed in the Ray White parking lot - that was very nice of him.

Food is middle of the road for me. I have visited this outlet a few times now and haven’t been wowed by anything yet. Food is not bad tho but not amazing.
Service is always good and i like how fast the food comes out. Always super fast no matter how busy it is.
Cool interior design like sitting in a log cabin lol. Large menu with bubble teas and is a Licensed outlet.
Prices are reasonably cheap and servings a large.
Good place to try at least once if you haven’t
Tammraa
Lovee this place!!
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and big portions of food.
Takeaways are fast and taste amazing.
Highly recommend, 5 stars!! 😀

went here since they had salty fish and chicken fried rice, since its one of my fav dishes. Took it back home and realized after eating nearly a quarter of it, they forgot to put in the salty fish, which was the whole point of what makes the dish stand out. Drove back and pointed it out. At the time I would have been happy if they added it in, made me another dish, or just gave me a refund. As I was talking to the server, the owner came out looking abit unhappy, took a quick look at the dish and shortly after, accused me of eating all the salted fish and for dishonesty coming back to somehow scam my way into getting another free meal.

The ridiculousness of his statement and logic not only blew my mind, but threw me off for a sec... So that when it finally sank in, made me upset at having been falsely accused of being some kind of dishonest food thief or something. I called him out for how stupid that sounded, even had an argument in front of everyone (the first time too I argued about food at some restaurant), and perhaps not liking being challenged in front of his employees and some customers that are within earshot to hear everything, he doubled down and made the whole ordeal painful to deal with. Angry it was heading nowhere, I asked for my refund from the server instead, but he made sure I would not be receiving that either. All I can say is, doesn't matter how good your food tastes, a bad experience like that would trump and put anyone off from returning. Haven't been back since then and normally just go to the place next door if I ever feel like chinese. My word of advice, avoid anything to do with the owner. He doesn't take criticism well at all.

A hidden gem. This place has amazing food, great size portions, at a great price.
Always fresh and has a constant standard.
Love coming here

Late lunch with friend here, we ordered three dishes - lemon chicken, beef and vegetables stir fry and salted fish fried rice plus also roasted pork as a entree.. and surprisingly the portion here is really big, and the most important the taste is yummy and delicious.. definitely will come back again to try their another signature dishes

If I want some tasty Chinese food and some great tasting drinks, I'll usually come here with a friend. One thing that blows me away is the serving sizes of the dishes for a decent price and it always tastes good. The taro milkshake is one of my recommended drinks - in my opinion this is one of the better places they do it. Always keen to come back for a cheap feed :-)
Cheapeatobsession
So fast and efficient! Great for takeaways. Best sizes for your money, you won’t get a better deal anywhere else. One plate is enough to feed two people, the cheapest and quickest takeaways. Not the nicest place to sit in.

The main attractions of this resturaunt are the very fast serving times, open hours and the prices. The staff seem friendly enough although you will have a more enjoyable experience if you know your way around chinese food and the slight language barrier. The food is generally just sliced up ingredients thrown into a giant wok but it does taste good. There is a very large menu that can be somewhat intimidating but i recommend any dish containing BBQ pork and roast duck.

what a place ! it's very buzzing - friendly and super quick service with generous portion. one of the best skewers/kebabs and squid i have ever tasted. the skewers so flavourful - coal-grilled to perfection and super tender lamb and beef meats. if you are looking for a place to chill with few mates over beers, then these skewers are a MUST ! the flounder is also my favourite, super crunchy and yet the fish meat somehow still soft and packed a bomb of flavour. their chilli oil and fresh chillis are also a bonus. looking forward to coming back soon !!!

Great interior, and very fast service. Our food started coming out less then 10 mins after we ordered it! A few vegetarian options here, like noodles, bok choi, tofu, but not a huge amount and they could do more! Make sure to ask for no oyster sauce on your food though even if it says 'vegetarian'. Big portion sizes which is great. They need to revamp their toilets though..

Went there after reading about the controversy's surrounding both the restaurants.
After getting past a difficult hostess, who was hell bent on ruining the experience, the end result was great
Food hot, delicious with large portions, priced pretty reasonable
Service fast and efficient
Clean environment
Recommended

Seems like the bitter fighting between the two old men which divided the "Mount Albert Noodle House" brand into two separate but same-branded entities is the biggest cloud that will forever be cast over the two restaurants each time the name is mentioned. However, drama, betrayal and backstabbing aside, the place still has appeal as a high-energy, cheap, wide variety, quick and accessible Chinese food choice which is definitely a hit in Mount Albert and surrounding areas.

In addition to being cheap and huge in variety, the food comes in large portions, the presentation is rather basic and the taste is average to a discerning foodie. It's a bit like a supercharged nightmarket food outlet, a lot of oil and grease, seemingly overall unsophisticated, and draws its value from the big portions and the low prices. The extravagant oil and seasoning does indeed add to its taste and boosts appetite, and so despite the large portions you can definitely finish each plate especially if sharing with others. However the whole experience does seem unrefined as you get the sense they don't put much passion or care into their cooking; indeed it evokes motions of chopping the ingredients up roughly and jumbling them altogether and then fry them up in the wok. For example, the broccoli dish we ordered just seemed like a whole bunch of big broccoli flowers roughly chopped and then fried with a lot of oil. Cheap, decently portioned, but rough in presentation and average in taste.

The speed of service is very very quick, though "service" could be a superlative in this context as the staff does not show much emotion if any as they seem dead-set on getting your order as soon as possible so they can get you out of the way to serve the next one.
The eating places are rather cramped, as the two times I visited we were placed near a narrow corridor which ran alongside the cashier bench, situated on the path to the toilet/kitchen. Seemed a little daunting having servers and customers rushing back and forth next to you in a tight space which deducts from the dining experience.

Overall this is the place to go in central-west Auckland if you want some cheap, big-portioned and quick-serviced Chinese food with a massive range. Just be careful that your top priorities are to fill your tummy up with loads of different foods on the cheap without much concern for the process or the experience.

I can't believe I forgot to give this place a review! This is my go-to for excellent cheap eats on the run and has been for a couple of years. I love their BBQ skewers (smokey with options for the seasoning ranging from mild to extra hot - the extra hot isn't really - it's just a bit tongue-tingly) and the WonTon soup is great value at $7. The meat on rice or noodle options are great - usually I go for a 2 meat one with duck and roast pork on rice.

The usual condiments are available (chilli oil, soy sauce etc) but I wish they had them on the tables rather than up by the counter as it can get quite busy and getting to them can be awkward as they really pack the tables in.

Even when it's really busy the wait times for food are still very reasonable.
Branicia Itsimaera
Favourite place to eat! Delicious food, big portions and at cheap prices. Not forgetting how efficient their staff are, even when they're busy they quickly get your order and you don't have to wait long until food is on your table. Extra points they open till 2am 😊

Great environment and friendly staff. I was approached which is great. I highly rate Asian style of service in New Zealand. They come from strong culinary backgrounds and understand what needs to be done in an industry like this.

Portioning was epic. Felt like it was worth each dollar for the different dishes.

Ordered spicy deep fried chicken, spicy tofu and rice and bbq pork on rice. Note. Order was takeaway - surprisingly great portioning for takeaway.

Taste wise was good but not spicy enough or deep fried long enough for the chicken to get some really nice colours.

Pork marinate was on point and the tofu was a great side dish to use the rice along side other dishes.

High value for money and great service.
A great place to go when your shouting the whole family 😀😀

We are locals & so recommend this awesome place Momo tea mt Albert to anyone for catch ups, groups, family & friends at affordable prices like real cheap,
Yummy food & fast service, always good to book cause this place gets packed real fast. Well first time booking tonight we normally just do walk in’s every time we go.
Supporting our local community.
#Momoteamtalbert

Had dinner takeaway from here last night!!, placed my order on the phone it took 20mins to be cooked which surprised me as they were really busy,
Food was nice and hot when I got home to eat, everything was delicious besides the combination meat fried noodle which I thought was a lil bit bland and didn’t have really that much meat in it otherwise I would of given them 5/5, otherwise we enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back..
Mebinjohn92
Being an Indian , I prefer to have authentic Chinese Cusine from this restaurant. Affordable with the price , satisfied with the quantity and quality. Excellent Ambiance. They need to improve on the communication skills of their crew .
Dani
This a cool place to come if you are wanting cheap food and big portion sizes. They definitely pull through with the portions as they are good if you are wanting to buy different meals and share with others too. However, on different occasions, I have seen friends meals that unfortunately had maggots in them. I'm sure this is not a recurring thing, however, it is quite off-putting. Overall, will definitely not be the first option of places to eat at.
SL
Momo Tea is definitely worth a visit if you’re in central and feel like Chinese food. You are greeted before you walk inside and staff are quick to allocate you a seat. It does get busy so I’d recommend either getting in early or arriving after peak times. It can also be hard to find a park.

I’d say 99% of the dishes here are shared plate sizes. Huge portions that could easily feed 4-6 people from $9 a plate.
Meats on rice are our go-to (BBQ & roast pork and duck). Everything I’ve eaten here has been good. Recommendations as pictured (too hungry to take photos before I ate)🤦🏽‍♀️ - meats on rice, dumplings, green beans with mince. Salt and pepper prawns or squid also go down a treat. The fried rice and stir fried noodles are nice too.
Orders are taken promptly and food comes quickly however at times they have ignored small requests like “no peas” or “no sprouts”.
Dumplings come with about 20pc
Green bean plate was double what is shown in the photo
Pork was 3-4xs what is shown in photo
Edit: on 8/1/18 we called and ordered takeaway, they gave us two of the wrong dishes and the other two didn’t taste like they usually do. Although we are regulars, we aren’t in a rush to go back.

Generous food portions and drinks are nothing to laugh at either. Pretty popular spot so get in quick tables are very close together which I didn't like however Service is fast and friendly have been there both during busy times and quiet times and in my opinion the level of service doesn't change.
The entrance area however needs work as it smells like a used ashtray which is unpleasant even for a smoker.
Sanchez Palalagi
Ordered takeaway from here a few weeks ago w/ my best friend and it was pretty good. I ordered the hot and spicy pork belly, she ordered the salt and pepper squid and congee. The portion sizes were definitely worth it. My pork was quite dry , but the flavour was really nice. It was more sweet than spicy which I liked, and came w/ cabbage and rice in a large plastic container. The salt and pepper squid was also reaaaally good. Would definitely come back here. If only they did UberEats 😂 they also do really good pork on rice. My usual order is that and the salt and pepper squid. Yum !
Foodie Nerd
Nice big space, the foods great, tasty but find that their prices have increased a lot and so therefore is it expensive. They also make nice bubble tea, which is a nice treat to have while with dinner..
Peggy Jane Keddy
Not a good experience for me. Food was nice BUT when it came out. E first time the whole thing was covered in ants and when talking to the man about it he just took the plate and walked off from me not knowing if I’m going to get a new one or we were being told to leave? Come here all the time and never experienced this but will NOT eat here again now.
Victoria Spurrell
Nice happy staff and massive portions. Well priced across the menu. Try the beef fried noodles, which feeds 2 for $9!! Great people watching spot as well!
Alisi Filipe
Food here is okay. The lil old man is always accomodating even when its busy hes always making sure theres seats available so we dont go next door. Service is real quick and staff are friendly.

If you are looking for an all you eat for not very much, then this is the place for you. Cheap beers, cheap food and good fun. You never leave hungry.

Really busy place!!! The waiters/waitresses are on top of their game. Hope they get tipped well because damn they went hard on a busy saturday night. I have been here 3 Times and each experience i have enjoyed.
I really enjoy the skewers because they are fresh hot and devine. The seasoning is what keeps me coming back so good.
Food ordered.
Lamb skewers, chicken skewers, beef cheek skewer, kidney skewer, pork on rice, beef brisket on rice, more...
All were great, but the brisket on rice was a little bland.
Wish with the combinations on rice (duck chicken pork) they would give you a bit bigger serving of meat. As there is a lot of rice.
You may have to wait a little bit depending on how busy it is, but you dont wait too long.
Passionfruit juice with popping balls is where it is at!!!
I like that they have takeaway containers on hand as well.
Sian
My partner and I still talk about the bbq sweetcorn from here. The flavours are spot on and the portions are generous. Hard to go wrong when you can also get bubble tea. It is very busy though so get in early!

The place was crowded when we came last weekend. The service was efficient and had nice ambience. We ordered three dishes between the four of us and had plenty leftovers. They give very generous portions, and the fried noodle was on point. However the downside was the wonton soup being flavorless.
Happy Eater
You will not be disappointed with what you get for the amount you pay. Portions are huge!

The environment is a little dark but cute and usually busy with customers. Chilli, vinegar, soy sauce, tea, cutlery and take away containers are all on a table at the front for self service. (Which is helpful when you order far too much and don’t want to have to ask for so many containers)

The menu is very extensive and if yourve never been here you will struggle to figure out what to eat. The duck is delicious and the cheapest I’ve managed to find. You can’t really go wrong if you pick something you think you will like. It’s good wholesome Chinese food. Nothing amazing but well worth the money! Perfect for a Chinese fix.

Came here for the first time last night. First impression was that I loved the decor! After being seated we were given menus to peruse. Lots of options, both food and drink. The waiter was very attentive and very easy to get the attention of. Our food and drinks came very promptly after ordering. Generous portions, great prices, this will be our new regular spot. We also loved that there was a little station with takeaway boxes you could help yourself to.
FoodFelix
Taste is the king here. Wooden tables and chairs however too crowded and noisy as everyone talks and tv on. Ambience wise not a great one but taste is nicely blended with sauces and meat tastes above average but can improve to fresh standard. Like their customising approach to any dish.
WishMaster
Milk shake is really good, quantity is so much that , 3 people can eat a 9$ fried rice. Quality is quite okay, they are fast in serving, all the work is done by young boys.
Steph Coulton
Has the chef here changed recently? This used to be a firm favourite in our house for takeaway, but the foods just not quite the same as it used to be. We ordered chicken fried rice, beef in black bean and chicken in cashew.
Khaleesi
Came here for lunch, first time a few days ago and there was hardly any diners which I like. The place was soooo stuffy and hot, there was a big fan in the centre of the room so I thought it was a good idea to sit where it was blowing but it only gave me a headache so we moved close to the entrance door. Was served room temperature water which was warm and they do have ice. We saw people helping themselves to soup so we asked what it was and if we could have some too. Overall service was average. Food was tasty and what I expected as in portions having already read some reviews before hand. I like how the takeaway bowls, sauces, small plates etc are readily accessible for customers. Will definitely be coming back.
Michael N Elena
Definitely a good place to eat, reasonable prices and the serving sizes are wow! One thing I would suggest is to have no cups of water already filled and waiting on the bench for customers. Cos by the time you drink the water it's luke warm it's off putting lol. Poor the glasses of water once your customers are seated and ready to order.
Fiona S
Generous portions at affordable prices. Service is fast and if you're a regular you're greeted like family. Food is packed with flavour with good ratio of meat vs veges. This is a great place to grab a quick and affordable bite to eat or order takeaway when you don't feel like waiting for a table. Favourite dishes - salt & pepper squid and the eggplant & seasoned beans are yummo!
Alison
If you’re looking for big servings come here. If you’re looking for quality, just walk away. I’ve been here multiple times and it’s always been very average. Today was the final straw for me. I ordered a milk tea and was given one that was a different flavour from what I ordered, and although they realised themselves after I received it that it was the wrong order I am still very disappointed because when I got home I found out that they also gave me the wrong order for my food.
Sally Ling Liang
This place has nice food at a very affordablr price I absolutely love it. I would
Definitely recommend it to everyone that loves Chinese food
Ming
I don't usually eat Chinese food when I'm out but damn this place is good. We ordered two dishes on rice and the serving size was ridiculous. We ended up taking away two full doggy bags as they're very generous with portions. Great place to come for flavorful dishes at excellent value.
Josie
Dad calls this his secret spot. He takes me there on special occasions and it’s so great. You get so much food for so little money and it’s so full of flavour.
Grace Nesbitt
Fast service, great food. wonderful drinks. Cheap and delicious. Try the chilli pepper salt tofu if your into that sorta thing. Cucumber slushy is also delicious.
Zohara
The food Is amazing here. Big portions, good proportions of meat, veggies and sides. The only thing wasn't good about the place was the service. The guy taking the orders tool orders like we owed him some money already. The attitude of the staffs need to change
Aimee.
Extremely huge and generous portions especially for the price. All of our dishes were under $10 and we couldn’t even finish them... the congee was only $7 and we got a huge bowl. The service is fast and the dishes came within minutes. The skewers and tasty and not dry.
Clarence Zhang
Best cheap eats in AKL (or NZ). It opens till late, so it’s been always a great place to eat after study late. Portions are on big side and still very cheap and delicious. Will recommend to all of people who enjoy Chinese food.
Kiwi Eats Asia
I love this place, I've been enjoying it for years, from since it was Momo Tea (I think it's now called M&M Tea but can't find that on Zomato, only the name of the BBQ restaurant it paired with) and now I'm excited to announce that it's my local! Most highly recommended dishes are their BBQ chicken ($13 for whole BBQ chicken chopped up, $$8 for a big portion with rice or noodles), BBQ duck and BBQ pork. Such a cheap deal for most things on the menu (and if it's expensive (i.e. $15 - 16), best believe the portion is going to be BIG, you will need takeaway containers). Service is pretty friendly and very fast. I love the milk tea here too, get a Peach Nata and you won't be disappointed if you love slushies - huge with little jelly bits of nata de coco. It's very hard to get a table, so booking or getting takeaway is usually best. Also there is very disruptive construction going on right along the shops right now, but you can still park in the free parking lot just past the shops (with this place on your left).

The salt and pepper tofu is excellent - seriously addictive. The ginger or garlic greens are yum but pretty oily - great to mop up with some rice.

love love love this place love the food love the service love the prices love all of it gonna tell everyone i know about it gonna come here for my little sisters 3rd birthday

You already know what it is, the spot with the old man outside harrassing you to come in.

Let me break this place down for you.

Food taste 7.5/10
Price 10/10
Cleanliness 6/10

Food - lets start with the menu and proportions, food wise this aint no michelin star restaurant but its tasty enough for your to feel satisfied. The portion size of the plates talking about the $9/$10 rice/noodle meals, they competely fill the plate in height and width of the 25cm plate. Definately enough food to take leftovers home for a snack later (students).

Price - $9 and $10 meals but give you twice the serving of the average place and not charging you $14-16 a meal? Amazing value if not the best in Auckland by far. What can you eat in Auckland these days for under $10 thats not an entree or cheese burger combo.

Cleanliness - obviously not the tidiest place but cant complain.

The menu has 100+ options so theres PLENTY to choose from meat, seafood and veges.

Overall would say 9/10 one of my favourite real 'cheap eats' of auckland. I do go roughly once or twice a week 🙂

Ps: dont go next door to the shop with glass door, the shop is a copy and the owners have regular staring contest outside the doors its hilarious to see. Also i have tried food at the fake bbq house and it was absolute $h**. Actually flushed my unfinished meal down the toilet.

Not sponsored or anything just an honest review!
Thanks for reading

Have eaten here before and really enjoyed their BBQ/deep fried flounder. Some of their fried rice type dishes are rather oily but not unexpected for a place like this. Reasonable prices. However the last experience we had was awful as we bought takeaways and the flounder was obviously put in the takeaway box straight from the deep fryer and the box had a number of fairly sizeable holes where it had melted into the food. We had to throw most of the fish out since we were not willing to eat toxic matter... Phoned the manager and he was kind enough to apologise and offer us a free fish the next time we visited but still a disappointing experience as the reason we bought takeaways is that we didn't have food in the house! Note to self to bring own bowl or non-plastic container next time for takeaways even though it may look dorky!!

Another side note - why is the name of the place the same as the one next door? It makes it hard to find...

One of the best chinese ive ever had in my whole life, always provides the goods after a hard day at the netcafe playing League of Legends across the road

Awesome spot. Nearly didn't go there because of the roadworks outside but glad we made the effort. Convenient if you are traveling by train but parking not so good at present.
Food came out super quick and was really yum. Loved the bubble milk teas especially the taro!

Highly recommended

Cheap and cheerful. Walk in here during dinner and you will probably just manage to get a table if you're lucky!

Our local go-to for a quick meal or rice/noodle takeaways. Decent portions for the price.

Used to be momotea but not anymore. You can still get milk tea and grilled meat sticks here though.

Interesting to walk past this shop, there's an older dude who passionately tells you that they were the OG who moved into this place from next door as their leased expired, and I believe them... But dramas aside I do definitely recommend this place.

Food comes out real quick.
Self service various sauces/chilli and hot tea, however staff are still quite attentive and helpful.

Murah meria= cheap for its kind, over the course of the three times ive been here)

Upsides: veges are crunchy and salted eggplant with fish, good combination. Dumplings are decent.

Downsides: greasy and aftertaste almost everytime. Also, the fried rice arent fried inconsistently, patches with little to no sauce compared to some.

Hubby and I wanted to try this place for our first time. Very busy Sunday night in there and awesome amount of staff and service was quick and good fast delivery too. Upon being seated the waiter helped me to my seat, appreciated that. We were served hot tea as soon as we sat down.

Decor sadly seemed shabby in places with nails sticking out of the wall where we sat, table 6. Not sure what style the restaurant is going for? And the atmosphere was busy so we couldn't get a general feel for the vibe the place had. Felt a bit squashed though as the tables were placed awkwardly and not like the photos shown here on their page.

Great cheap dinner for these 3x meals for $41 total. Hubby and I had very big portions and I thought $10 was so cheap for a 3x combination on rice (duck, chicken and roast crispy pork). Meals tasted fresh but the wontons were a tad over cooked and dry in the middle but nice with the soya sauce we were given. We ordered a green apple juice drink (way too sweet and tasted like cordial that had too much concentrate) and a $6 corona with lemon in. Such cheap drinks too, awesome as we know how pricey Auckland restaurants can be for a bottle of beer.

I like that you can grab a takeaway container and plastic bag yourself for your left over food etc and there was no charge for that.

Would like to come back and try something else as this was overall not bad night thanks to the fast service. Very high turn over.

Came here with my family last night.
Menus and water served upon arrival.
Attentive waiters which was convenient but our waiter was sort of hovering over a table half the time.
My family received their meals around the same time while mine took longer which was weird seeing as I ordered the same as someone as on my table. 10mins after my fam received their food, a waiter came out with my meal - and delivered to a different table. That whole table sat confused as they didn't order this while the kids on that table planned to eat it anyway.
5mins after it had been sitting on the wrong table, the waiter came back and grabbed it then brought to me, 15mins after my fam got their food, with no apology. Wasn't pleased with that at all.
I ordered the chicken fried noodle and a mango green tea. Big portion and value for money. The mango green tea however was quite watery for my liking. However it was very, very oily.
Overall service could do with some improvement.
Being attentive is one thing, having manners is a must.

This place is the best for a quick, chill lunch/dinner/late night eat 😍 they have a variety of meals that are so huge and are super filling! I'm obsessed with their beef brisket on rice and bok choy with oyster sauce - you certainly get a yummy and big meal for the small price! I recommend visiting on a very empty tummy. Mustn't forget the staff who are friendly and are super quick with their service and are very organised!

I have to say their food is quite good and they also have free manga to read (In Chinese tho)
But the attitude of one of the waiter here is really bad (Others are nice)
When i decided what to order and called for a waiter, this guy comes to me walking like a rogue. He rolls his eye from beginning till the end and didn't use anything to record my orders (While others do).

I won't be coming back while this guy works here, even tho i like the taste if their noodles and bubble tea.
JuniorSifa Tinielu
Good food, good service, great value!
Go as a group and share, portions are huge. Will go back again.
Ordered Hot and Spicy chicken on rice, wife ordered BBQ pork on rice and pork and cabbage dumplings we couldn't even finish.
HayShanna
I had never tried bubble tea before so cannot give a comparison but their's is great! I've so far tried the lavendar and also the melon bubble tea. It is warm, sweet and fragrant with sweet chewy balls that you suck up a big straw.
There was also a list of other drinks that had something called 'Spractical' -which I would love to try to know what it is.
It can be a bit intimidating walking into this place, which can be quite busy. There are some playing cards and music videos on a TV by the bar where they make the tea and you sort of have to wait there while they make it.

This place is always one of my go-to's when I'm in need of a nice and big feed for cheap. Service is always great and food is always delivered in or under 14 minutes even when it is packed. My personal favourites to get from the Noodle House is the large combination BBQ Pork & Roast Pork on rice ($10) and the Deep Fried Spring Rolls ($7). I would definetly recommend this place to anyone looking to eat something nice on a budget.

Affordable, quick friendly service and you certainly get your money worth! Great for grabbing on the way home from work if your just looking to relax with your partner.
Reuben Simeon
Great place, great food and great service. Portion sizes are worth the price and is relatively cheap. Good place for a late feed. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
I_like_pickles
I rate it a 2.5/5. The food is ok for its price. Affordable prices and quick service. They also serve bubble tea here as well.

The food was a bit too oily for my taste. The deep fried food was nice and crispy but the stir fried dishes were too greasy.

Bubble tea was ok. The green tea slushie/milkshake lacked green tea. It wasn't even green and didn't have any green tea flavour to it. The hot rose milk tea didn't have a strong enough rose flavour either.

Probably won't come here again.
Seamus M.
This is the place if you want cheap Chinese food!!
Has affordable delicious food. Their prawn cutlets are very nice, cucumber salad, noodles, and fried rice. I love that the new owners still have the bubble tea milk.
Liksya
A wide variety of choices. Huge serving for a 10$ food. Always our Go To place when our group are really hungry. Very prompt service and food are good. The staff cares for customers as they attend the customers as quick as they can. Would recommend this place. Economical. Big serving. Good food!

3.5 as At times though, the veggies and rice comprises the meal with only few meat. Doesnt happen all the time. But would be a good room for improvement.

The place is very busy- full of people from all nations. I was quite overwhelmed by the menu due to the wide variety of options and I didnt know what to order. I highly recommend the chilli pepper salt squid and the pork and egg congee. During the peak of my time I used to go to this place around 3 times a week. Very cheap, very generous portions. Greatest of all, they open till ~12 am so it's a perfect place to go to when you feel like a midnight snack. The restaurant isn't the cleanest place to dine; you may find flies or tables that have been wiped properly, yet the taste masks the flaws. Not going to cost you a fortune to try it out so it is definitely worth going for a visit.
Tip: ask for less salt. The food is usually heavily seasoned- if you find that it requires seasoning you can ask for salt then.
LoveEatLive
Was convenient to find parking. The prices were good. The ambiance was simple and presentable. The food was ok. It was nice to find some pearl tea!
Very big serving size but that just made for a meal for the next day.
Will definitely pop in again if out on a late night adventure.
Tanuj Thukral
Really disappointed with the food I got tonight... Went with friends but got really upset with the quality... tasteless food and moreover staff brought the wrong order... Not at all apologetic .... Being regular customer from last 2 years.... But won't ever go back again....
Logan Pivac
Some times it can take awhile to decide where u wana go for dina with the selection out there.. i made the mistake of tryn this place .. dont go here, there bbq pork fried rice was tasteless and hardly any meat .. the sweetn sour pork was soft and doughy an disqusting and to top it off the beef fried flat noodle dish was a total joke and looked lyk a beef and black bean soup!! Was quite busy to surprisingly after the quality of food was a shit!!

This place is relatively busy...which means that people enjoy going here for their meal.

I love the diversity of customers who come and dine in this restaurant. It's very casual and good.

We were serve immediately when we step in and they allocate us a table. Plenty of choice. The food was good. You typical asian bbq which always turn up awesome and huge portion. Great for sharing.

Tho I'm not really a fan of their momo tea juices. I couldn't taste my mango Flavour. (Must be my taste bud) I probably will stick to just water next time.

A good place to have dinner before your late night movie since it's only appx 7min drive off st lukes mall.

Must go n check it out.
Ashish Paul
The unique ambiance of this place and the mixture of the cultures of diners makes this place a unique location as it pulls all kinds of crowds; young and old, Kiwi, Chinese, Indian, Islanders, British, Americans and the like. You end up paying less than $25 for a full fledged meal and a beverage (they have also just begun serving beer and chips. Yay!) and you will be super full and may even have some left over for takeaway if you're a fussy eater.
They have a variety of appetizers, which range from vegetarian to all sorts of meat and seafood. The appetizers are portioned well enough to share but not so large that they fill you up fully. The range of mains offer a solid choice to pick from and usually has you going over the menu a couple of times to pick your favourites. There are so many mouth watering choices, it took me a whole 10 minutes just to make up my mind.Overall, they provide fast service and great tasting food. Perfect for a few mates to chill or even for a large group of colleagues or families to go to for dinner. I would rate them higher, but not everyone is perfect, right?

Tasty bbq many verity of bbq and fried rice below 10$and great price and quantity very generous ....................I recommend this resturant ...........................

Have been here few times at late night. The look of the place is pretty average, but the service here is really nice. They do have a lot of options to choose at the very cheap price (about 9-11$ per dish), while the size of the dish is really large (I can finish it only in two days). The quality of the food is fine as well, especially for its price. Both times we ordered it takeaway, and it was cooked pretty fast, however its business on weekends... We also dined in here once, love the atmosphere of this cafe, really warm and friendly😊 used to get G13 here, which is really delicious. Good place to have some cheap Chinese food.

Momotea: Being busy is not an excuse for poor customer service. This was my first visit, and I will NOT be back. Upon ordering, I was not told that my side and main were pretty much the same dish, deep fried tofu and chili salt pepper tofu sound like different dishes to me. But much to my disappointment, when they arrived my 'chili salt pepper tofu' (ordered from the stir fry section of the menu) was only deep fried tofu, had no chili or pepper, and was only covered in salt and placed on a bed of unseasoned cabbage (I don't claim to be a stir fry expert but it didn't feel or taste stir fried at all). When I went to pay, I let them know that I was a little unhappy but I'll still pay for the meal because it was made for me. I was told that the waitress would have told me they were the same dish if they weren't busy, but being busy is NOT an excuse for poor service. Every customer, no matter how busy you are, should receive excellent service, because at the end of the day; that's who pays their wages.

Love this place. This isn't fine dinning or best quality. But $9 for the largest portion sizes I've ever seen in Auckland, its a poor students dream. Food is greasy and oily but it tastes good, massive portions and is extremely cheap, so you get what you pay for in quality as it's just above takeaway food quality. It opens late which is great. My favourite is the black pepper beef with rice which is one of the better ones I've tasted. Service is meh. Interior design is ok, better than the other dodgy asian places on the same stretch of road. This place is great for you if you eat a lot, are cheap and don't mind eating unhealthy every so often. If not then maybe not :)

Don't waste your money, there was something wrong with everything I ordered. I got takeaway roast pork and duck on rice and they piled the rice high and lay a minimum amount of meat flat so it didn't look empty. The duck were skinny cause it was all bone. The taste of the bbq was average. The rice was hard enough to tear in half in some places, and they served that to me? I also ordered a taro and mango pudding tea and there was no flavour in it. It tasted like unflavoured milk. First time I've been here, what a waste of my time and money.
Jane
This place serves HUGE serving of food at a very cheap price. The staff here are very attentive and helpful. Pleasant experience. Didn't manage to try their skewers because they are only available after 5pm. So will come back and try them. As always, yummy pearl drink!
Diner8Here
pretty average place to eat out, originally we came here to try out the meat skewers but ended up dining in with 3 other dishes, which is average but passable to the taste, skewers was over seasoned, the red bean congee tasted tinny, out of a can maybe. M+M may have been part of the Momo Tea chain and sold off and re-named after the white Rap singer or the chocolate candy, correct followers?
Sapphire Crystal
Yummy tea.but the service can be more friendly. I understand it's a small place and gets crowded easily and they need to keep the customers moving.but hello!! That doesn't mean that you forget your etiquette to be polite.
Vinny
First time here. Came with family. Atmosphere was busy, we had a nice polite waiter. Our food came out pretty fast. The whole duck we ordered was cut up and served hot as well as all other dishes. Not a fan of the dumplings and the Seafood combo plate. But i liked my Choc milkshake and spicy pork belly plate, hot and tasty... not as spicy as id like it but still good. Kind of weird to be served water in a small plastic jug with the $3 sticker still on it with cups that didnt look too clean.. so its a 4/5.
Vth7872
I went while it was really busy and still, my food came out in under 10 minutes and was still served hot and fresh. People aint lying about this place- the portions are very generous. Normally, I'd need a few entrée servings, 1-2 main dishes and dessert if i have time. But here, i couldn't finish one main dish or the entrée (well played, Momo Tea). My only critique would be the spacing. It was so crowded that we had to share a table. But that's a testament to how popular they are.
Ashleigh Michelle
Staff are not very friendly or welcoming. They always seem stressed and do not try to personalize the service at all. However the food is very nice. I ordered the sizzling beef and vegetables which had an amazing, garlic flavour and it was a great size for the price! Also the service is fast considering the amount of people they have to serve.
HJ
Surprisingly busy for a Sunday afternoon, we were lucky to get a table. Once seated, menus, tea and water were brought to us. The service is efficient but lacking friendliness. The menu has heaps of dishes to choose from so they should have something for everyone, and also a long list of bubble/momo teas.

We ordered the Vegetable and tofu casserole ($15) and a side of rice. I was surprised our waitress brought out the rice only a few minutes later, but our meal arrived not long after. This type of dish is great for a cold day as its filled with hot sauce and fresh vegetables. However we would have loved a little more tofu though.

Takeaway containers, plastic bags, sauces and seasoning are all self service by the counter, which is not a bad idea! Especially for regulars that are familiar with the system. If your after a quick, readable and tasty meal in Mt Albert, this place is worth a visit.

I usually dine next door to this place at Bbq Noodle House but thought to give this restaurant a try. Very clutter looking and kitchen looked questionable. Group tried a few dishes and came to the assumption the noodle house next door is better. The pearl milk teas they have a variety of flavors to choose from and tried one and enjoyed it alot. I reckon if you after a refreshing drink buy from here is bout all I will return for. Utensils not properly cleaned had food debris stuck to it. The waitress serving us was sour and grumpy service is enough to deter me dining here again.
Nathalie
I must say this place has come a long way! They had a renovation and ever since then this became my fav mid night/late snack to go place! Ambiance Much bigger and cleaner and service not too bad but they do get very very busy at night and one time it took them nearly 1hr to bring our order in! Food wise typical Chinese menu (but much nicer than takeaway) they have more choices now and my fav is Hapuka Fish on Rice with some BBQ on sides and Taro milk tea. Overall you get what you paid for, large serving (one dish is good for two!) and it's a very laid back place. This place is One of my favourite cheap eats !!
Diogo Reck
I'm so impressed about how these Chinese restaurants can be so good and cheap.

I had some duck with rice and it was really, really yummy. Would definitely comeback to try something else.

The only drawback is that the owner couldn't stop telling me and my friend to come in as we passed in front of the place. But the flavour of the duck made me forgive him.
Medium_Rare
Poor service, questionable hygiene but $9.00 meals?

Definitely worth a try and in my experience, the service is better than what I expected. I didn't really see anything to raise regarding hygiene issues, but I was completely surprised by the large portions of food we got.

In terms of taste, the beef brisket was fantastic and the chilli tofu was flavorsome with an awesome kick.

Showstopper: Their $9 menu!

Overall Grade: B

Good food . Nice ambience as well . Good for a Chinese craving ! Perfect weekend hangout with friends or family . Love the chicken sticks with mayo here 😁

always love mo mo on shitt days like these 9dolla combination rice wth free soup 😋😋😋😋 lovely staff good servce cheap delicous food always xo 💋

Seriously good food. We were craving bbq sticks and gogo music in Balmoral was packed. Then we remembered how good momo tea was! Definitely happy with our choice. We had lamb and chicken sticks. The lamb has a spicy seasoning and the chicken comes with mayonnaise on top. Perfect. We also got the fried salt and pepper tofu which was huge and also a char kway teow dish which was so tasty and filling.

When we arrived there was only a table right at the back, but as soon as a better one came free staff moved us right away which was awesome.

Great value too :)

Thanks again will be back soon!

The place is nice and the food is alright but the service is terrible. The waitress (Tall one) is very rude and unprofessional. If you choose to pay for your bill in cash, she always throws the change on the table and doesn't thank people. The other young fella with glasses, whose usually behind the counter is alright. The only reason we visit that place is because it is open till late.
Sriram Annayan
The advantage of this place is that it's open till 2, this is just a hunger saver ! Food not great, staff not so friendly(maybe the time that i went the waitress was really tired, would suggest the owner to value employees too and give them proper breaks). Will go here only if i do not have an option to eat in the middle of the night !
Yoyo
Quantity of each dish is huge. Quality of dish ok. Very nice milk tea though.
Might consider dinning here again. I love dumplings and theirs disappointed me a little
MissEstherZ
My brother and parents are sort of obsessed with this place. Since discovering it, my parents went three times in one week.

Momo tea serves a lot of food for not that much money, and is the reason for why my family are going gaga over it. The meat kebabs are a fave, and the portion size for the meals on rice/noodles are really good. There is more substance to the on noodle/on rice meals then the individual meals themselves for a few dollars less, so it's really good for value for money.

My fave dish is the char kway teow because I like the noodles. The food is pretty standard for Asian fare, the interior is pretty good and although others have complained about the service here, I've found it to be pretty good!

I really want to try their teas since its momo tea! Will definitely be back to momo!
FoodLoco
Good value for money!
We usually go to momo tea in meadows banks we were in the surroundings so decided to try this place..
The owner told us that he combined the noodle place nextdoor with momo hence the different menu..
We ordered hor fan and chicken with salt and pepper
The chicken was yum!! The noodles werent too bad either.
Victoria
Spent an evening with friends at Momo Tea, this place has a nice and relaxed atmosphere and the food is pretty damn good! There were three of us, we ordered four dishes and shared them amongst ourselves. The portion sizes are amazing and definitely not made for just one person, we had plenty leftovers to take home. The prices are great! Ranging from $7 to around $13 it's awesome value for money. It's not a fancy five star restaurant but if you're looking for somewhere to go on a budget and still want to experience decent food this is one of those places!! Only thing that needs a bit of improvement was that our waitress was a little grumpy and rude but besides this it was a great dining experience.
Debin Sabu
The food is super cheap and the portion is really large. If you want to have some fun then you could just have the bbq that they serve. They are open till two which just makes it perfect for a meal after drinks.Service is alright. The competition that they have with the other Restaurent is sometimes disgusting. As they tell people not to go to that Restaurent
Charlene Weaver
Momo Tea is super cheap and the portions are absolutely huge! One plate could last me 3 lunches/dinners!

The food is standard, and you get more than what you pay for! I always order the wat tan hor as this is one of my favourite malaysian dishes - its not authentic and not as nice as true Malaysian restaurants would serve, however it hits the spot and is reasonably good. The eggplant casserole with salted fish and chicken is pretty tasty too!

There is also a self-serve bar where you can help yourself to different asian sauces and complimentary soup. The chicken and corn soup they do sometimes is delicious. I would definately recommend this place if you are around the area and in need of a cheap, filling meal.
Nikita Anguna
This place has the best seafood and tofu soup. I am so addicted love this place and 3meat combo is great for price and quantity. If you want veges just an extra dollar
Giu
Incredibly cheap and huge portions: don't except anything fancy and amazing but if you're hungry and want a good cheap meal, this is the place to go to. Their combination meats are actually really good. I wouldn't bother with the sticks though, tough and not tasty compared to the ones of other bbq places. I don't like pearl teas generally so I can't comment on those.
Ridad
We love this place. It is our spicy bbq fix. Must say that I haven't tried any of the other things on the menu but their bbq sticks are really yummy. Crunchy chicken is my favourite. I also like their mango pudding milk tea. Prices are extremely cheap but service is pretty poor.
I always come to Momo Tea to get drinks to take away but only once in a while do I stay and have a meal.
My friends and I decided to come here to just relax and intended on simply having a snack. We got a few drinks, I personally got the peach green tea yoghurt with pearls (I love pearls but it may not be for everyone) and I found it was a good combo of sugar and tea.
We ordered the garlic soy cucumbers which is a classic Asian dish which we enjoyed.
The crunchy chicken was average, a lot of batter and not a lot of meat.
We had skewers of lamb, chicken, chicken heart, chicken wing and squid. All of which were average apart from the chicken wings which had hints of honey, it was rather delicious. The squid was quite bland and plain rubbery... But still edible. The chicken was drizzled with a Japanese mayonnaise which was a nice touch but the chicken wasn't dry at all, it was actually quite moist and tender. The kumara fries we ordered were average, fresh out the fryer and tasted quite natural.
We got the BBQ pork thick noodles to share which was very delicious, I genuinely enjoyed it's flavor and texture. Nothing overpowering but a good dish. We were quite satisfied with our meal and were very full at the end.
The prices are average and hours are incredibly flexible.
We had a waiter at the beginning who was patient, polite and well mannered.
Our waitress later on who served us and took more orders was impatient, rude, and acted like she had better things than to be there.
Despite this, I do enjoy Momo and its atmosphere, will be returning for some snacks or a quick cheap meal
I Am Hungry
This is an average restaurant.....and becomes below average if you visit the toilet and get a peep of the kitchen...not great site...we use to have black pepper chicken fillet on rice....until last time...when they changed the recipe and made it sweet....horrible...
Laura Ransome
I have mixed feelings about this place.

Positives- big portions huge portions I'm talking two meals worth for ridiculous low prices. The food is more to the bland side but with no expectations and with that price it's satisfying . I like the self service for take away boxes and water.

Negatives- personally I think most the momotea taste like shit I've tasted 8 of them and can assume the rest are of the same standard. The service is mediocre, the place is a tad dirty.

Side note, for the love of God do not order the lemon chicken.
Aniva Huang
Average food and drinks but they are open til the early morning so you can't really complain.
The portions are big for the price like most Asian places. There's a huge drink selection too
J Li
Mediocre food. Price is very reasonable. Setting can be cleaner. Table is not stable and dining on it is not the most comfortable. Drinks are reasonable in taste and not too sweet. Convenient location.
Charli Naufahu
Chilli salt&pepper squid here is best I've ever had! I would come back just to enjoy that alone. As well as the salt&crunchy chicken! Those two dishes are my highly recommended favourites! Others we ordered including combination fried noodles were also delicious. Tried taro milk tea for the first time, great! Can imagine would be nicer hot than cold? Last but not least, serving sizes are generous and good value for $!
Nia Tupouniua
Went for early birthday treat for my niece today for lunch as we have been wanting to try milk tea for awhile. We ordered taro milk tea with pearls which was so tasty maybe next time will try hot taro tea. We had five different dishes and the stand out was definitely the chilli salt squid, it was so delicous and fresh the best I've had. The other dishes including salty fried chicken were so tasty. Usually you go to a restaurant where some things ate better than others but I can say all the food was yummy. Serving sizes are huge so we had four containers full to take home as well as mango popping to go. Those boba passion fruit boba balls are so refreshing.
BrinkersMad
I've only had tea so far but will edit this after some dine-ins with food.

Tea here is one of my favourites. It is incredibly fast it's insane. I've noticed it's fast as hell when there is a particular employee there (like 1 min) but just less than 5 mins for others but that is still fast compared to other places.

When you order hot tea it is hot! And it is the hotness it is suppose to be (caution it can cause a burning tongue if you sip too much on the first sip ... perfect for cold days)

Atmosphere is great and I enjoy stopping by here every time I come through Mt Albert.

Continue to be fast pls! And bring a store out to west auckland where I will be waiting ;-)

EDIT: After having a few meals from there - it's value for money in terms of portions - service is average - cleanliness is ok but I'm not fussy. I've enjoyed every meal so far and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

From my experience eating at this particular Momo Tea branch, the main dishes aren't all that great compared to the one in the city. I have had the "wat dan hor" at the City branch many times and when I tried it here, it didn't taste as great. The best thing about Momo Tea Mt Albert are the skewers though! We come here when we're craving Asian skewers.

The chicken skewers taste like they're dipped in honey before barbecued and they are literally amazing. They're rather pricey though, at $3.99 a pair.
We got ten lamb skewers for $10 and compared to the measly things you get elsewhere at like Gogo Music Cafe, these have so much more meat on them!

The spicy chicken pieces changed since the last time we were here. They're a lot more saucier, but still taste good. $7.50 for a small portion of these chicken pieces.

For dessert, we got fried/steamed buns with condensed milk. I actually like having the option of getting steamed buns as well because they have just the right amount of chewiness in them. These were $5.50 for six.

The service here isn't too great though. The wait staff sit and talk to each other by the counter and sometimes it takes quite an effort to get their attention to come and take our orders. The food is okay, and we've definitely found dishes we don't like at all, and dishes that we love here! The skewers are usually pretty decent here, and are good enough to satisfy our cravings. :)

Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Seemed like a good late night hang out spot with friends. I have been a fan of their milk tea (in town) and it's taste quite rich and dense here. Ordered chicken skewers as snacks but found it slightly burnt and also quite small. Liked the overall interior and bubbly vibe though!

Best place ever. Freeflow tea and the cuisine was cheap and delicious. The good thing is these restaurant open until 2 am!! Just suggestion i hope they increase their restaurant capacity.

Food is yum, very very cheap for a huge amount of food I've been here twice and I usually struggle to finish the plate I've tried spicy chicken and curry chicken and they were both delicious

My partner and I went to Momo Tea for a late dinner. Felt like the restaurant was a bit too dirty for me. Apart from that, all the food we ordered were well seasoned and the service was alright. The skewers really did it for me though and I would definitely go back for the skewers.

This is a typical hole-in-the-wall type restaurant. The prices are incredibly cheap given the amount of food they serve. They used to have charming pink paint but have recently merged with Momo tea next door, which looks like a log cabin. There is free self-service soup and the food comes within a reasonable time. THE shop we go to when we are in the Mount Albert area.

Good quality food at a great price. Yes, very similar to most other Chinese take always or dine ins. But few things remarkably different about this Chinese restaurant:
1. the skewers- they are simply amazing. Superb marination of herbs. Excellent for the price as well.
2. The drinks - a super variety of drinks other than the colas and fizzy ones. My favourite is the Lychee Yoghurt and strawberry black tea (cold).
3. The best part is that there are games available, which you can play with your partner or friends and spend some quality time together. You can also carry your games or cards.

Went here with a friend for the first time about 2 weeks ago the food was ok and the milk tea was good. The service was patchy as i got my food very quickly and my friend had to wait for his by the time his food arrived I was almost done with mine. Not the greatest but simply ok.

Yeah good sized portions for cheap prices and food does taste good but am sick of unprofessional staff who do not look interested in their jobs whatsoever and we always have to wait awhile until they actually come around to take our order.
We love the milk teas and drinks selection and the squid is a fav but unfortunatley that wont keep us coming in anymore due to the places very poor hygiene, dirty dishes and poor customer service. Not to mention the asain channel that contantly plays that no-one actually watches. No music, its like sitting/eating in the changing rooms of an old dirty pools area. Ugh.
chilli pepper salt squid is to die for with rice and their chicken fried rice noodles. come here most times since its close to uni and it worth the trip, a big hit with Unitec students!

Momo tea has been amazing each time I've been to the restaurant. Food and the service has been exceptional, it never takes too long to receive your food and always tastes delicious!
John BENS
Better places than this. Ordered rice dish get noodles
Will not be back suggest you use other shops food and service just as good and not such wait

I keep coming back to this place because their food are delicous affordale and filling! My fave is their spicy chicken with cashew nuts, i particularly like them separated to each other cos i dont want my rice drowned with all the spicy sauce. Their serving are massive, i think thats what makes them so popular! Good food good value!

The place is ok, clean most of the time, maybe they need to wash the glasswares a bit better. The milk tea and other drinks like poppings are good enough to fix your cravings.

Service is a hit and miss. Sometimes I get a decent waitress, sometimes I get an absolutely horrible one who looks like she doesn't even want to be there.

The food isn't expensive at all and taste great thanks to the addition of a copious amount of MSG. Definitely wouldn't be my first choice to go to in Mt. Albert however with my line of work it is convenient... they are one of the rare places that still open at 1-2am!
DAWO
Pros: Nice wood decors and fast service. Bubble tea is good. Cons: Dirty plates/greasy. Food is tasteless, clearly not their strength. Felt unhappy and unsatisfied after the meal. Sorry.

This place has been a staple for great Chinese noodle house cuisine. They have now merged with Momo Tea House and offer both in one restaurant
WOW
great food and oh so cheap!!

Worst place to eat in mt Albert . Mainland Chinese ruining Taiwan food. Cockroaches running around the eftpos machine as we paid. Would rather eat a dead seagul. Not to mention the hideous woman who was sitting on a stool outside eating noodles. We came out to find her Actually sitting on my car eating noodles. Lost my temper and threw her chop sticks on the floor. No rating. Place needs to be shut down .

My only issue with this place is that it is not a clean place. The do not wash their glasses properly in a dishwasher. The prices for food and bubble tea is okay.

A late night favourite of mine, along with Spicy House in Balmoral.
The food is pretty basic, but good value for your dollars. Five meat skewers for $5, noodles for around $8. Momo is also open late (until 3am), which is perfect for night owls, like myself. I'm obsessed with the taro milkshakes, which you can get with pearls, or popping for an extra dollar. Service is sometimes really good, sometimes not, but it's still a great place to build fond memories with friends.

Yummy first time I have ever been here staff were very friendly and very helpfull in explaining their Beverage menu I had ordered the Taro milkshake very adventurous of me but it was delicious and I was very happy with the drink it was very well made :) my partner ordered a papaya frappe and it was also really yummy I would highly recommend momo #
Better than Starbucks

Discovered this place by accident as the Momo Tea house a few shops away was packed and we were starving! Oh my lord! I still can't believe how cheap it was for such tasty fast massive dishes! Why has no one introduced me to this place prior.

The sweet n sour pork was more pork than batter.. very good! The salt n pepper squid had a nice kick to it and was cooked perfectly! I also had the crispy roast pork on rice and wow.. that was huge lol. I kinda looked at it and thought wtf am I going to do with all this food.

The place is simple and must be a local favourite as we chose to eat in and orders were flying out. Luckily they gave a doggy bag so I took my leftovers back home.

Recommend and if you're eating in you could easily share a dish or two. :)

Great place to go to. Really affordable prices and good quantities. The food tastes good and the staff are friendly.

This is one of my favorite Chinese places in Auckland. The food is really good. I recommend the hot and spicy soup with chicken or beef. The service is efficient. And best of all the food is cheap.
Maima Ioane
Nice and cozy, friendly service and lots of things to do whilst eating.. e.g play cards :) love their noodle and rice dishes and especially their milk teas!!!!! yum!!
Susie Jackson
Great place for a quick, cheap eat.
We have been with a group of 8 and only paid $12 each for 9 dishes. Service is quick and efficient. Portion sizes are generous. Love the BBQ pork and Roast Duck.

I eat here regularly, its near my house. Its a bit hit and miss - sometimes not enough meat/veg, sometimes not enough sauce etc....but ALWAYS huge portions, plus free soup and tea.
I like it, but probably wouldn't drag loads of friends and family in there. Its just a nice, cheap place to grab dinner and still have enough left over for a small lunch the next day. The service is OK, fairly normal for a busy Asian place.....I will always go back here and if your just after some BBQ meat and nice fluffy rice - then heres your place!
(tonight I had curry chicken and black bean beef, both only 8 bucks, it was a 'hit' night for sure! Nice and garlicky and lots of sauce! Yay!)

Whenever im in the area, i like to pop in and order Chrispy-Pork-Belly, delish!

You cant miss this place, its bright pink -exterior, is basic in design, lots of appealling foods, Duck is popular and all types of ethnics dine here

o and this place has been here i know for 4 years, maybe more
Olivia
I come here often because the prices are good and the food is a-ok.. Sometimes the service can be a bit rude, and everytime I order won-ton it always takes about 20mins to come out. They have their days where the food is so good, and then I come back and order what I did the previous time and it comes out cold, or just not tasting as good as the last time. But overall the prices are good, the portions are good.

We came here just before the rugby for a quick dinner. Food was fantastic - tasty and quick. Ordered a soya sauce chicken & bbq pork on rice which was absolutely delicious while my partner ordered a black bean sauce & chilli beef and vegetables dish which was very tender, tasy and nice bit of spice. Will definitely return again.

Place is good. Neat and clean. Good food, not at all expensive. Good ambience. Delay in serving. Yea that's a bit annoying. But food is tasty. The beef, chicken, fish etc. Haven't tried anything else. Open till 2, and that's pretty cool. A good place for friends to hangout.

Info for my friends from Kerala : order hot n spicy beef, and ask to make it completely dry and no gravy. And you get the 'naadan bdf'. Perfect! Will take u back in time to those thattukadas and bars.
Cdeep
Not sure how this place has been given a 'A' rating....we saq cockroachs running around and the toilet was filthy as...even the spare plates and bowls were dirty...not coming here again.

The franchise Momo's tea comes with the expectation of good Taiwanese milk tea and snacks. We like to go for a sweet hit of 'nata' slushy (hubby's fav is the grape flavour) which is tiny fruit jelly bits in a flavoured shaved ice drink. There's lots of drinks with various flavours and combinations with pearls/pudding/jelly etc to choose from.

Being taiwanese myself, I'm particularly picky about my pearls in milk tea, momos pearls are sticky and bloated, definitely not up to scratch. The drinks are ALWAYS too sweet, even when I ask for half sugar.

Tonight, we ate there with a group of friends and ordered a beef rice noodle stirfry (basically a char kway teow) beef fried noodles, chicken skewers and tofu. The tofu was most disappointing! I was expecting the traditional fried tofu with grated cucumber drizzled with peanut/sweet chilli, instead, I got flat salty tofu bits with a side dish of sweet chilli sauce! The portion size for the noodles were big and was enough to share between 2 people. But overall, there's much better places around serving better quality food and service - sorry Momos!

When working in the CBD we often make sure this is on our route home after a long day. Service seems a little unfriendly and frenetic, the restaurant a little basic. But it is what it is, which is good, well cooked food at very affordable prices. Seems a shame when I'm not commuting, well at least once a week.

had an early dinner with my mate today.. one of our orders were "BABY OCTOPUS" apparently, i have found a "plastic" in my food.. so i called one of the waiter and told him i had a plastic in my food. he was then answered me with "DO YOU WANT TO GET A NEW ONE, OR DO YOU WANT TO CARRY ON EATING IT"? i was surprised he suggested me to carry on eating the food that had a plastic. I was waiting for an apology.. but apparently. i heard nothing. one more thing was their baby octopus tasted FISHY! needs to cook more!

Came here for lunch on sunday afternoon, ordered preserved egg and shredded pork congee and roast chicken - the meal was affordable ($19) and filled us up, we even had some to takeaway. The chicken was fresh and crispy, and the congee was perfect ! Not too watery or thick, it was just right. The best chinese meal I've had in a while. They have self service complimentary soup for you (possibly beef or duck that day); little bit salty but not over the top flavoured with msg like other Chinese places, it's also not very oily at all. Highly recommend if you're looking for a cheap place to eat and you like Cantonese style food.

Food is too oily and we left the resto feeling bloated. The bbq tasted like bbq gas. Waited for 10mins to get order taken. Food is blah! My family will not go back here.
