Review Nirvana Indian Restaurant - Auckland

The vegetarian momos are really good, both steamed and chilli. I went there three times just for the momos, and they didn't let me down. Their vegetarian hakka noodles are amazing too, just like the Indian street food style.

Great food and service. Very accommodating to kids and babies too which makes it great when you are in a family group. Also asked about new dishes to try and staff were very helpful.

1st time customer. Purchased 2x chicken biryani and 1x lamb masala. My family and I loved it. Even my mom who rarely eats Indian food had 3 servings of the biryani. Unfortunately no photo as it was all demolished by the time I remembered to take one lol

Had indian style butter chicken.Curry was fantastic and nan bread was so soft.Portion was too big that we couldn’t finish it. Will come back

Food was really good, some items were missing when delivered to me. But they were very kind in delivering again my missing order in a short time with additional naan bread as compliment. I recommend this restaurant for nice Indian delight.

We love this place. I regret not asking the beautiful lady name that served us, very pleasant and helpful. If you are like my family that enjoys a good hearty Indian dish, this is place to go. Dishes were served out Hot and tasted delicious. Highly recommend AA+

Butter chicken was good and tasty, bit on the tomato sour side of taste, but definitely still ticks all the boxes opposed to the overly sweet ones you get elsewhere, and the garlic naan was absolutely great. Customer service was also top notch. Definitely recommend nirvana for Indian takeaway.

The food at Nirvana restaurant is exceptional! The food tastes really good and is well presented, and you can choose among many menu options. I love the service at this place, the staff are friendly as well and always take care to offer the best quality! I highly recommend this place.

Chicken Tikka Salad with a side of Chicken Tikka is a delicious low carb option, but the exciting bit for me is they can make it HOT. The blend of chilli paste through the salad is delicious and gives it the fire for the chili lovers. I am a regular and get this every time now - worth a shot!

Ordered takeaway for lamb madras and chicken korma. I asked for a medium and it was too spicy I couldn’t finish the food. My madras has no taste at all that I have to put heaps of salt. Same goes with the korma which is too spicy and no taste. Even the garlic naan had no taste too. First and last time I’ll ever order. If I sat down for that meal, I will send it back in a heart beat.

Their food is very yummy and the experience of having an Thali is simply the best in the whole country. Friendly staff, awesome ambience and amazing food makes this an absolute must-do if you are in Auckland.

The Decline of Biryani : First i would like to appreciate the effort put by the owner himself by staying at the business. I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for over an year approx. and have always appreciated the briyani cooked. Trust me i eat meat a lot and had authentic briyani so i know what i am getting. For the last 2 month i have spoke with the owner about the quality of briyani and haw it has been going down. He offer me a option to come on a Sunday and taste it. Unfortunately i have not had time to come over on a Sunday. My last order was last week : Chicken briyani and lamb Saazwala and that was a real disappointment. The briyani was like curry mixed with rice, lamb was so oily that i could cook another curry with the extra oil. I would suggest an immediate check on the quality and the owner to respond to my remarks. If requested PM as well. I will give you another try since i believe in your food and hopefully you can improve. Regards Mani

Just tried today which is the second time and is just as wonderful as the first time. Had chicken korma and it was perfect. Definitely going to be doing this again. Friendly unobtrusive staff plain decor but the food was the 🌟

Our server was accommodating and food was great. Disappointed that I couldn't finish due to nagging chest infection so will have to come back �

I went there today and I ordered 5 curres today and i goT 4 curres today so i called them again and they told me they told me that they will give me naan for complements but they just give us only one curry that we ordered with rude customer service. That was totally rude. Hate it. There is one girl who’s working there totally rude customer service. . Totally bad service. Hate it.

We happened to call in for a takeaway on the day they opened. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be booking a table to try other dishes. Just what we need in the local area.

If your vegan, they make a mean Chana Masala... I really enjoyed the fact a vegan meal was included in the menu.. Fantastic...

I have supported nirvanna ever since they opened I have not supported them for three months but thought I would go buy some butter chicken after work.<br/>I can honestly say that this was the worse butter chicken I have ever tasted .....watered down flavorless . it appears that nirvanna has new owners perhaps this is the reason for the poor Experience.<br/>

Today we ordered the chicken tikka masala. After my dinner my bronze nail polish turned yellowish gold.<br/><br/>This was quite shocking as this is a dish we eat quite often from other places but nothing like this has ever happened.

I ordered lamb masala, taste amazing. The meat doesn’t taste earthy and gamey like other restaurant make. Absolutely love it, it’s stringy more like beef. I can’t tell the difference 😁 definitely will come back.

Cold frozen food..<br/><br/>We ordered 2 x mains with roti and a side of samosas. One bite into the samosas and it was cold and frozen; they needed to be reheated before we could try it again. The curries were tasteless and needed to be reheated; very disappointed as we live 5 minutes away from the restaurant.<br/><br/>Very disappointed and won't be going back..<br/>

I purchased a Hyderabadi Dum chicken Biriyani family pack last night. It was $42.90. It's basically colored fried rice. It's way more expensive and doesn't even come close to how tasty it is at Paradise takeaway or Southern spices in Manukau. <br/><br/>Don't waste your money with this dish, just a waste of money.<br/><br/>You'll have to go hunting for chicken pieces. Very disappointed.

Spent $40 on my order and I’m not happy. I Ordered chicken manchurian and paneer 65 both were not appetizing at all. The chicken had a funny smell and the manchurian wasn’t like any I had before too much soy sauce and corn starch. The paneer 65 was flavourless and tasted stale. The only thing I enjoyed was the garlic naan. Would not order from here again.

Ordered twice from this place- naan with curry once and chilli chicken the second time. Was not disappointed at all. Dishes were full of flavour. Would definitely be coming back again.

Yummy food I ordered butter chicken and rice, and naan bread. I like how it's available through Uber Eats, makes it easier to access without having to leave the house. Delicious flavors my only complaint was that you couldn't specify which spice level you liked so mine was a bit spicy but to my surprise I quite enjoyed it

After waiting for about 30 minutes, we were served a raw paneer tikka and almost stale chicken biryani. Dissapointed and obviously never going back.

Food was amazing and incredibly tasty! I ordered the Shahi Vegetarian Thali (platter style dish) and my partner ordered the Vindaloo Chicken. We also ordered extra Peshawari naan which we had never had before and it was absolutely perfect. Customer service was also really pleasant and we found the staff to be very polite and helpful. Our first time here but definitely won’t be our last!

Delicious food here, had the butter chicken, mango chicken, rogan josh, spicy meat platter & garlic nann bread, waitress was friendly & polite, restaurant was spotless, can take a little while for food to come out if restaurant is busy but its worth the wait, good prices & they do takeaways as well, uber eats available also, will definitely be going back again.

Ordered over phone for pick up tonight. When I got there something was wrong with the eftpos so the man said come pay another time as he didn't want my food getting cold. Wow . The curry was the best I've ever had so delicious full of flavour .this is a A++++++ place to get your curry

Well, this is not about the food (because I didn't even get to taste it) but rather about the service and way we were handled. This is why we didn't get to taste the food; because we were rushed out of the place before we could even order. We arrived, unaware as the sign said open, that it was near closing time in the middle of the day, though the hours were open till late. <br/><br/>When we walked in, we were not greeted, the place was empty so were all the food pans, despite the place being "open" in the middle of the afternoon. By the time someone did show up, my husband had to ask for a menu, seeing as there were none within visible sight. We were given one very complacently and left to look it over. Honestly, there are no descriptions on the menu as far as what everything contains, just so you are aware when ordering. Hence the reason it took so long to figure out exactly what we were going to have. I was really trying to remember all the good food I had at Punjab Palace further down Great South Rd so that I was able to order something similar. <br/><br/>So finally, we were about to place the order, and the man asked us kind of hurriedly if we could hurry up as they were closing in 5 minutes. :S Well, If you are closing in that amount of time, you leave me no room to sit and place the order and possibly enjoy it.

You cannot go wrong with their chicken manchurian (semi-dry), chicken saga walla & romali roti. It’s a shame that their romalis are only available on the weekend now.<br/><br/>The service is good as long as you don’t dare to order delivery. They should really just not even bother with a delivery service. We once waited for 1.5 hours for a order that was meant to come in 30 Mins and all we got in compensation was the smallest bottle of coke in the world. Why did you even bother?!

Very good food! I got the veggie thali and so glad I did! Heaps of veggie options too. Delicious food, great portion sizes and very good staff (the lady that served us was so polite, friendly and attentive, the chefs smiling). My fave was the veggie korma - heaps of flavour. The naan was great, the roti was yummy too! I even enjoyed the onion baji which I'm not usually a fan of! I would recommend this place and will def be back!

The nicest Indian food I have had in awhile! Dined here last night with a friend and the food was fabulous! For Entree I had the Samosas and my friend had the Cheese Balls. Samosa pastry was light and the filling nice. They were quite big in size. For Main I had the Chicken Kadhai and it was so nice, lots of chicken in the sauce, the rice was light and fluffy and the Butter Naan was great. We were so full we could not finish so they packed the remaining into containers for us. The service was great, our Waitress was friendly and the overall experience was great. This restaurant is a gem! Will be back! Thank you!

Food is probably 3 star I will say. Had tandoori chicken which was bit on dry side and made a uber eats order and they don't provide rice with any gravy but when you order straight through restaurant then they do provide rice.

Terrible food and rice will not be provided when you order through Uber eats. Service is not that great as well. Will prefer salt and pepper than nirvana

pretty good curries seem to go here often when craving butter chicken or chicken Korma. Have good weekday specials so call and ask. my son and I share a large meal so enough for an adult and child win/win!

Favourite curry place, we come here often for takeaways and the food just keeps getting better. My personal favourites are the malai kofta and the butter chicken, both lovely and rich and creamy, with the perfect amount of heat.

Friends had thaali and we ordered off the menu - chicken and lamb curry and a biryani. <br/>Food was good, ambience ok. Service was good.<br/>May come back as my friends loved the portion of the thaali

Nirvana is a solid bet any night of the week. We regularly order the saagwala paneer and chicken, as well as the semi-dry chicken Manchurian. We recently discovered that these items go very well with their Roomali Roti which has just a hint of smoke from the tava. The curries here are strong and authentic. Be warned their norm is to make spicy food. Even as Indians we tend to order the mild here. Portion sizes are good and 3 items for 4 people would suffice. Don’t hesitate, try it!

Came in for a quick dinner, service and food was good. Disappointed because my husband tried to order three dishes one after the other only with a response by the waitress let me check all three times was a sorry we don’t have these mains available. For a Friday night dinner I thought it was abit disappointing as it was our first time here. We had the butter chicken and got it adjusted to hot and chicken jalfrezi both dishes were nice. The naan was super fresh and yum. Would definitely come back for the butter chicken :)

This is now my new go to place for Indian take out. They offer delicious vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. My favorite is their Dan Briyani. Their service is very friendly and I never have to wait long for my food.

My wife and I have become somewhat of a regular here. Food and service always on point. The female waiter that works there is super friendly and helpful. Was genuinely surprised to see some bad reviews about this place.

I had a banging lamb saagwala takeaway tonight, cooked to medium spice/heat as asked for. Very tender lamb and good sized portions/chunks - visited based on the reviews and will certainly return to try other options. The garlic naan unfortunately was average (slightly burnt on one side) hence the .5 rather than"5" overall rating.<br/>The restaurant interior lacked character and atmosphere, but if you can get past that I'd say it's well worth a visit...

I have eaten here a couple of times. The food is delicious and they cater to you if you can't eat very hot curry. The staff are friendly and make sure that you are comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to others

I ordered the butter chicken hot with a naan. The curry was delicious and the naan was fresh but the rice was old and hard. I would probably eat here again for the curry but old rice is not very nice.<br/><br/>Adding to my review because I've eaten here again- and it seems they've gotten worse! Ordered a medium hot chicken Kadai and a vindaloo and they were both flavourless and had no heat at all. Once before we ordered medium hot and they made it so hot we couldn't eat it! Really disappointed.<br/><br/>Basically if you get them on a good day they are great but most of the time they are inconsistent so not worth it anymore

Have done couple meals over this place. Nice served Indian food so far in this area. They have some unique dishes on the menu. Would like to try them all if possible. The price a bit above average but overall good flavour. Bear in mind, if you in a hurry or hungry, may not a good choice. Because you need to have awhile to wait for your order.

Probably the best indian me and my husband have ever had. was so fresh and full of flavour not like any of the other franchises we have been to. I didn't know what to expect when we walked in but we're told it was amazing and it definitely was! I had the Jalfrazi and my partner had the vindaloo and our heat preferences were spot on! 👌🏼

Butter chicken was amazing! One of the best I've ever had. Also saagwala was perfect! There was some wait which is why have taken off 0.5. So glad to have found these guys, we will be regular for sure!!

Tried A couple of times, eating in once and take away once - we really wanted it to be nice,  unfortunately the food was bland. The Naans were great which is why the rating of 2. The dhal was watery and our main curry - Vindaloo - was tasteless and uninspired. Such a shame as it's in a handy location and the decor looks nice.

Nirvana is an excellent, authentic Indian restaurant. Try their Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. The butter chicken here is one of the best dishes I have come across during my foodie journey.. You will not be disappointed. Excellent food and best customer service.

Nirvana special thali is must try!! Also cokes with roomali roti! We couldnt even finish the whole thing. Definetly something different..we are definetly visiting again!

Finally tried this new restaurant. Disappointed with butter chicken tasted like lollie water. On the brighter note the lamb briyani was nice. Wanted to get the chicken briyani but they were not doing chicken briyani at 5.30pm on Friday hmm bit strange.

Great place to dine. Good ambience, great food and friendly service. Not your typical Indian takeaway. Some really creative menu choices and very affordable.
