Review The Oakroom - Auckland

Fantastic venue for our son's 21st! Thank you so much to you and all your wonderful team. We had an amazing night. The venue was perfect, heaps of character, indoor and outdoor areas, great sound system, staff so friendly and helpful – including the security team. Everything went like clockwork and we will be singing the praises of the Oakroom as an event venue!

Top notch service and food. I will definitely be back.

A great location tucked away with a nice view of Victoria Park in the heart of the Victoria Park Market precinct. Nice menu choices and their lunch specials jumped right out at me right away. Whether you are stopping by for brunch, lunch or even an early start to happy hour (starts from 3pm-6pm daily) you'll find something for you to try. Pick whether you want to hangout on the deck, or tuck away in one of their cosy corners and sink into some comfy furniture, either way it will feel like home. Fun fact, it was the social dinner location for NZ television show Married at First Sight, but unlike the show that didn't continue, you'll be sure to build on your relationship with The Oakroom 😉. The home made pie was well balanced, seasoned, great flavor and hint of spice, was enough to feed anyone starving for a feed! Same can be said about the fish n chips! Coffee is great there and the service is top notch. Drop by and let them know I sent you, and I may catch you there for a feed or drink!

We recently had a combined 40th birthday party here and it was the perfect spot to celebrate. The communications leading up to it were flawless and the staff on the night were so helpful. 5 out of 5 - would highly recommend.

Could not fault the service at Oakroom. I had my big birthday party here and they made it so easy and effortless. They were soltuitons focussed and made sure everyone had a great time. I work in events so can be hard to please, but Rohini and team were flawless in communication, effort and service. Will definitely look to Oakroom for my private events in the future.

I held a 21st at the Oakroom. Awesome venue with a great sound system and outdoor area. Staff and security were friendly and reasonable. 100% recommend!

Our company provided to Photo Booth for a private event at the Oak room, and were treated to some of the best hospitality and food in town. So we have to let the whole world know that we love the Oakroom, their food and their service. Shout out to Rohini who was our lovely host on the night. Can't wait to go back soon. Rach

Went to The Oakroom for my Brothers 30th! AMAZING!! Staff are super friendly, food was on point, enjoyed the porkbelly and spare ribs 🍴😛, will deffs go again.

I went for dinner yesterday ,i ordered crispy calamari and hot crispy chicken ,it was so delicious with good presentation,staff was so friendly ,service was so quick,highly recommended,i will surely visit again

Came for a birthday party. The place wasn't very big but quite open. The food was cooked well. I had the speciality squid, which was tender but a bit too sour for me (guessing that was due to the spices used). There was a decent amount on the plate but was surprised it didn't come with a side salad (since it was served as a main).<br/><br/>Nice venue with nice decor. The staff were nice but there was a waitress who was very eager at removing empty (or almost empty) plates or cups making it feel a bit rushed.

Been to the Oak room a few times over the last few months and really enjoyed it. The food is superb, the loft style feel is perfect for winding down with a post work beer and the service is incredible - there's nothing these guys won't do to make your night fantastic.

Hosted a function here for work and we had a great time. The event and bar manager were both very helpful leading up to and on the day of the event. Very nice set up inside, exactly as the name describes, very classic feel with wooden barrels and worn leather arm chairs. We had food catered which was average, can't comment on the dine in menu. Service was efficient.<br/><br/>Beautiful venue, will be back.

We had a function here and the venue was perfect! Great service and their ability to accommodate all our requirements was amazing. I would thoroughly recommend it for your next function.

Had an enjoyable lunch here today. It was in the middle of what Aucklanders consider a cold snap, so it was quiet in the restaurant but warm and inviting, with a pleasant backing track going on. <br/><br/>We also had some exceptional service, which was to be expected with an almost empty venue, but appreciated none the less. <br/><br/>I had a very tasty goat curry for my meal. Not overly spicy (which I has asked for), but tender and rich, making it very enjoyable.

Classy bar in the strip over the top of Vic Park Market, with comfy indoor and outdoor seating and tables. Great in summer sitting on the deck enjoying their beer. I can't talk about the food since I am usually just having drinks here (although have had some great platters here), and for me the location is better suited to relaxed drinks with colleagues than sit down dinners. Definitely recommend for a relaxing way to while away a sunny afternoon, and the service is top notch, never having to spend too much time nursing an empty beer glass :-)

went for romantic evening into the oak room. The food was AMAZING!!! My husband said it was the best curry he had in ages! And my fish of the day....wow! It was by far the best fish dish I ever had in my life! Both dishes were full of flavour and came out fast. Drinks were great too, we will definitely come back there again!

We went in for a quiet early evening drink, and received the most amazing service. Really relaxed and friendly, And completely unpretentious. Table service too, and really efficient too, without being over-bearing. When I asked about a wine on the menu, our bartender brought out two bottles and poured me a taster of both so I could choose which one I preferred.<br/><br/>Such relaxed, homely service - something I don't see often in most bars and restaurants. Really impressed and will definitely be back!

Very relaxing, and the food we ordered was perfect. We had a tasting plate with smoked fish, honeydew melon, scallops and more to share. I tried a new cocktail - I think it's called Texas Fire - great. Sitting on the deck, enjoying the afternoon, we couldn't ask for more!

I lunched here last week, on a day when the sunshine was generous &amp; warm, so we sat outside and dined alfresco. <br/><br/>Also generous &amp; warm was the service. Because although the small plates were a little slow to arrive... the maitre d' was attentive &amp; kept us informed. He also followed up our meals with a couple of complimentary chocolate truffles (one whiskey - yum! and another limoncello).<br/><br/>Regarding the food: My watermelon with mint, ricotta &amp; rocket with balsamic glaze was refreshing - and had a lovely clashing of sweet and sour and creamy and salady. <br/><br/>The smoked fish remoulade &amp; lemon that came with garlic toasts, was beautifully moreish, with a lovely texture. <br/><br/>A Corona w slice of lemon topped off the summery autumn lunch. It was a lovely relaxed social place where I'd definitely be keen to lounge (and eat) (and drink) for hours!

[17 May 2012 ****] Went here with a group after the place had only been open for 2 weeks. It was empty the whole time we had our lunch, apart from men installing brand-new TV screens. Food was great when it arrived; unfortunately, that took the better part of an hour, and five minutes after ordering, we were told that they didn't have any mushroom risotto. I suspect that these are just teething problems though, so rating based on food only.<br/><br/>[20 July 2012 **] Returned to give this place another chance after seeing that they now have a limited lunch menu. Not that impressed with my salad, and two colleagues ordered seafood chowder only to be told a few minutes later that the chowder was not yet ready (we were eating after 1pm).

Ok, so, thought we would have a wander through the new Victoria Market and ended up popping in here, entrance just off Drake street. Exposed brickwork, soft wooden lines and a laid back casual yet classy ambience embrace you as you enter.<br/><br/>with is high ceilings and long bar this venue has placed itself well ready for high volumes of cocktail drinkers looking for a wind down. Then... There is outside, overlooking Vic park its is open ensuring all around day time sun, and with the patio heaters primed for the darkers hours will easily slide into a cozy evening escape come the darker months.<br/><br/>As far as service goes, sometime this aspect is over analysed, you cant go wrong with a smile, friendly chat and attentive knowledge of the customer experience... And thats what you get here. Spot on.<br/><br/>so far so good for this new kid on the block, the foundations are set...<br/><br/>cheers

Excellent, attentive service. A lovely venue which is often booked out on private functions. Located in a cellar type setting just over the road from Victoria Park. <br/><br/>A great selection of beers and spirits, including some of New Zealand’s best beers, like Emerson's of Dunedin by the bottle. The salt and pepper squid with Garlic, black beans, lime and coriander is well seasoned and has a great zing to it. Apparently it’s their signature dish, although it had a little too much cornflour for my liking - I’d have preferred a crunchier batter, but perhaps that’s just my preference.<br/><br/>There are other platters and pizzas on offer as well as their speciality South indian curry. The Oak Room is a lovely experience down to the warm service, good drinks and picturesque venue. The menu is perhaps a little misguided - it’s a bit all over the place, and some of the dishes don’t work, but it’s definitely got signs of going places. Will be back to try again!
