Review Baklawa Cafe - Auckland

Ali Aly
Great place, we went there for their buffet which runs friday and saturday. Everything in the buffet was great, you can fill up as many times as you wish but when you get to the 2nd plate you will be so full it hard to fill up again. Certainly value for money. On normal days their manish and other food is also amazing. Pepporini pizza i would stay away from, did not have much pepporni topping. Drinks are a little expensive. Place can get busy during buffet but there was no shortage of food or people waiting for food it was always freshly filled up. Nice to see the quality and speed at which they ensure the plates are always filled with food. And ofcourse baklawa is great, don't leave with out trying some.

Very tasty Labanese food. I did the buffet experience at last Saturday. Nice dine in environment with good services. I really like their desert and pasty items. But needs variety of other main dishes, also food was not hot enough, the kabab items are really cold. The staff should look into this matter. Recommended for family gathering.

Highly recommended. Great service, good environment ,really decent food at affordable price. It was my second visit to this restaurant. There is consistency in every aspect of the restaurant 👏 👌

Amazing food with friendly service. Authentic Middle Eastern food and flavor. Baklava is also amazing and fresh. They provide nice breakfast as well and you must try Manaish. They have a nice buffet every Friday and Saturday.

Fantastic! Just made me nostalgic and took me back to the days when I lived in the Middle East. Authentic flavours and prices that don't break the bank. The Lebanese coffee ☕ does have cardamom which we loved but just be aware in case you're allergic etc.

They occasionally have a buffet but you would need to check their Facebook page for the days. They do recommend booking in advance and it did get quite busy. There are a few parking spaces in front of the shop but plenty along the road. We paid and were given plates to start our meal. They had quite a lot on offer from the bread and dips, to salads and hot food. My favourite of the lot was the yellow rice with the lamb. It was quite fragrant and flavourful. Their hummus and other dips were also quite tasty. The stuffed zucchini was also interesting. I also did like the meatball with the pasta. I did find their chicken a bit on the dry side. The desserts were nice too, a tiramisu and what seems to be a semolina pudding. It was an interesting place for a buffet since I haven't had food like that often. The smell of the cookies was amazing but I ended up getting some baklawa for takeaway since they didn't have those for the buffet. It cost $25 for the buffet and $12 for the box of baklawa.

Great place for brunch. Prepared to order, so it can sometimes take 35 to 40 minutes. Fresh and reasonably priced. Excellent coffee from Lebanese to flat white. Lots of vegetarian options. The menu board next to the cash register where you order has more detailed descriptions than the laminated menus. An order of foul requires 2 to 3 bread. We shared 4 different types of manaish and they arrived beautifully cut in quarters on a tray. Staff very helpful. Do not leave without taking home a box of baklava- it is sublime!!

What an amazing find this place was lastnight!! 4 of us went for dinner and ordered the Lamb Mashawi with lebanese rice as the side, Chicken on Rice, and the Mixed Mashawi. We also also ordered Falafel and Hummus - All sides and mains came with so much pita bread we couldnt finish it all! The portions were huge, the quality and taste was amazing and the falafel is the best I have ever had. From the outside/the decor, it seems a very lowkey place, but there is nothing lowkey about the food!!! Only downside was waiting about 45-50 mins for the food, but not a major issue at all :)

Insanely delicious babaganoush, hummus and that amazing amazing bread, handmade and piping hot. Bit of a wait on food but really when it is that good, you dont even mind. Very unassuming little place with extremely good Lebanese food.

Their baklava is delicious but I can't get my head around the fact that it's a Lebanese restaurant that has space for days and serves buffet options for dinner but won't sell kebabs? No chips? What kind of non kebab selling non kebab place is this! Super clean, staff are very friendly and sweet options are super fresh

Visited them with my friend to full fill the craving of some Mediterranean food. So, we decided to have something from their dinner menu but unfortunately it was not available at that time. Their dinner menu is available after 5PM i think. Then we decided to have something from their Lebanese breakfast (Mana'ish Lamb), Barbican lemon flavour and Baklava (one from all different options available). Baklava was super delicious loved all of them. Mana'ish Lamb was good and Barbican was also good. They serve halal. Thank you.

EDIT: I gave Shefco 4 stars 3 years ago because the food was tastier and the atmosphere was much more pleasant than it is today. Customer service is lacking and food quality has since gone down. Overall I am not impressed 😞 especially that this is probably the ONLY place in Auckland that does manaesh (sigh).

Absolutely delicious breakfast , the staff is friendy and is quick in serving food. The food was fresh and delicious. I am so happy to enjoy authentic middle eastern cusine after a long time ❤️ Plus it offers one of the best Cappacuino in town ☕

This was sooooooooooo good. I was craving some middle eastern sweets and a couple office friends took me to this place... it was a wonderful experience... the baklava was soooooo authentic.... love the place. Would definitely recommend...

Love shefco especially in Ramadan when you can enjoy the lavish flavorful Ramadan buffet. This is by far the best Arabic style buffet. The only reason I have given four stars is because of the long wait times due to the amount of tables they book in that also doesn't leave any space to stand or walk.

I love this place! The food is amazing. The cakes and sweet goodies are beautiful. The lunch menu lebanese breads are real value for $4.50 each - NOT per slice. The coffee is wonderful with large cups ( bowl size) reasonably price. An awesome place to pick up a box of yummy treats for someone special. The staff are efficient and charming. The beautiful young ladies serving the food are gracious and have mastered the art of great customer service. Thoroughly recommended!

After 8 years in Dubai, I was looking for Lebanese food in Auckland and I was very pleasantly surprised. The hummus was lovely, the baba ghannoush pleasant, the falafel flavoursome and the bread hot. Oh not forgetting the pickles...Lebanese is not the same without the pickles.

Since I have only tried their dessert, my rating just for their bakery.
Baklava is made of layers filo stuffed with crushed nuts like pistachio and sweetened by syrup.
The round baklava is my favorite🥳
It has crispier flio and not as sweet as the others.

Baklava is very good and very reasonably priced. Got around 8-9 pieces for $8! Had the falafel which was very good and for three people our meal only cost us $20 in total. Although the place was pretty dirty, a lot of dishes/left over food were left on tables for a long time.

Amazing array of baklava's from pistachios, walnuts, cashew and also almonds. Loved every bite of it. Best part was that it wasn't overly sweet unlike others that I've had before. Highly recommend!

We went there for Iftar buffet, absolutely loved it, great food choices and great value, I absolutely loved its meat dishes, highly recommended.

Thank you

The most awesome labanese food place in West Auckland. Has awesome food and ambiance. Plus the variety of Baklava!! Too yummy for anyone to resist. A must visit place.

Top class excellent baklava.
Listed under its business name- however this is Baklawa Cafe which is what you will see from the road. The importing and wholesale business supports it.

Been a patron here many times- the baklava is excellent (although not as expected Turkish styles) and other biscuits and sweets just as tempting.

Their dining is casual and warm.

The girls serving a polite and quiet- don't expect full on mainstream service or speed here. It is very laid back as a family run place often is (yes they manage and work here). English isn't always their first language, so compensate accordingly.

Breakfast style menus of humus and olive oil, tahini with lebanese bread always please. Falafels, mana'ish etc always full flavoured. Coffees excellent.

Weekly buffet on Friday night seems a family and friends affair (local community strong and many Indian and others attend). Great value for $20pp. Would give it 4.5 if I could. Happy to return for full dining, alfresco brekkies or just the baklave for take home desserts.
Highly recommended.
++++

We came here for the baklava. My oh my! Very impressed at the many varieties of baklava they have! The sight of the huge round pan of baklava is very interesting! We bought one each of the different flavours: pistachio, almond, coconut, chocolate to name a few. Super yummy! And oh yes, they also sell many different kinds of candies & chocolates!

Friendly customer service, very quick delivery of food. Amazing eggs benedict. Food was very nicely presented. Price was reasonable. Will definitely be back!

I love middle eastern foods... the hummus is super nice, the sweets are ok and done traditionally, kebabs use to be fresher and tastier but very average now days, maybe bring back the love for making that food :)

This place is just amazing. The ambiance of the place is just peaceful. I keep coming here once in a while got the bakalawa and the coffee. Love the authentic flavour and taste of the cuisine

Came here because of the baklava, but the staff (a lady) was not helpful at all. The first time we went inside I asked her what's the difference between each baklava and she was ignoring me and play with her phone in front of the kitchen door. After 10 mins waiting, she help us to pack the baklava and didnt answer my question, so i had to pick every baklava to know the taste. It was raining, so I decided to sit and order coffee, as I approached the desk, the lady left to the back and make us wait again. Finally another staff help us to get the coffee and manakish. What's wrong with you lady?. Baklava is awesome but not so much for the service.

Nice and beautiful traditional Arabic food, if you want proper Arabic style food Shefco is the place to go! Everything is homemade nicely! Just like we have it at home, never go wrong with Arab food

A Really delicious dinner. We had the Kafta which was great. We also got the Kebbah which was tasty. The meal came with sides and sauces making it great value. Yum. Will be back soon

Shefco gets a 5/5 simply for the baklava, its SO good. Haven't tried anything else, but if it's half as good as the baklava then I'd be happy.
....

Nope. Never ever. Been there just once during a buffet. Very unprofessional buffet layout, they didn't have enough dessert, the back kitchen door was open we could see poor a old lady pouring rice or something in a large pot. Oh and food is mediocre. I have yet to find a proper middle eastern restaurant in nz. Don't let this restaurant represent your middle eastern cuisine experience.

Came here for a quick bite of Baklava today. They were closing because it was after 3pm and only dessert was being served. The store guy gave it to us at no charge and told us to try it ! What a nice guy! Little did he know we've tried it a hundred times before. Great place to have breakfast or functions. Their Zaatar and cheese naan is divine and so cheap

Pretty neat place on a interesting stretch of road. There are the most random shops along this road.
It's a real gem. I like the cute little cups and saucers.
They have an extensive cabinet displaying all sorts of treats.
Last week I went to Shefco with my kids and we ordered Jatar after having it on takeaway my kids asked me to eat there and when my son was eating there he found hair in the food when we asked the manager he got angry on us and he blamed me that i have to check before eating it. It is pathetic experience with me and staff was not cooperating . they do not admit their mistake i waist my money as well as time and i will never go there. Please for your kids safety don't go there. very bad service. Specially manager With Cap.
Do not come here for dinner. Absolutely don't waste your time.

I wasn't going to bother posting but then I realised the lamb mankish cost $23!

I'm incredulous as to how Shefco Mt Roskill would have the gall to charge $23 for a container of nothing but rice with cubes of lamb and an uninspired side salad of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. It is as unappealing as the photo suggests.

I was dumbfounded that there was no sauce of any kind. It's as boring as you'd imagine eating a plate of rice with a grilled chicken breast and boiled broccoli.

This place might be great for the entrees, desserts or breakfast but the dinner I ordered take away was appalling.

Especially considering when the Balmoral branch has the world's best garlic sauce, hummus and other trimmings along with their lamb on rice making it so god damn tasty!!!!

I ate a few mouthfuls and put it away. I'm so confused. And super pissed.

Shefco is my favorite place for breakfast, but this time we waited for simple order more then an hour, bad customer service try to hire more staff in busy time . Or at least mention in counter that how long the order will be take . Bad experience ever .

Awesome Food . Service was little bit slow but we don't really mind it . My breakfast was really delicious and portion was really generous . Highly recommend!

My all time favorite Breakfast place for the family. Very friendly staff and great food.
I used to miss Middle-East and its cuisine. Also the many size and shape of Baklava just amazing .
Mat
Quite an impressive place. Very spacious which makes it perfect to accommodate large groups of family.

I love the selection of Middle Eastern sweets they have here.. Omg. Baklawa in 4-5 different flavours, 10 types of Lebanese biscuits, kanefa, basboosa, mahalabi etc. It's super affordable too as many 'Mediterranean' restaurants will sell 2 pieces of below average tasting baklawa for $14, when you can get 12 pieces here for that price..

I'm glad I found this place and will come often.

I really like this place. They serve Zatar expect on Tuesday from 8am to 3. The menu over here is not updated and they have a special dinner menu. I couldn't try everything but brought some good child hood memories that was great

Baklawa cafe has nice manakish which we enjoy on the weekend. We do prefer grabbing them take away though. The ladies there are not very friendly. Their baqlawas and date pastries etc are delicious and are a great companion for tea and coffee.

Baklava to die for, love the variety and really hard to choose. So got the big pack instead am a regular back. The forth column from the photo is my fav, not sure of the name.

The food is mostly good but the service is really bad , this place need more staff and more care from the owners.
..........................
Ali
Arabs only should be the board outside
For all else you can expect a wait for 45 minutes or more. If you are insistent to check on what has happened to your order, don't expect apologies or any attempt to appease the customer (unless Arab) they are quick to say you can take your money back (and go else where, implied but not spoken)

For all who say that this place is under rated, I agree... There is no service on offer so no point complaining about the lack of it!
Stuart Harwood
So underrated! Great for supplies eg tahini, flat breads, figs, labneh, also for the odd cheeky kebab - probably the best in Auckland I reckon.
