Review Kings Garden Cafe - Auckland

Awesome atmosphere! I sat outside in the deck area, nicely shaded and surrounded by nature. Nice little nook for studying. Staff we very accommodating, and happy for you to stay as not too busy!

Nice brunch at the Kings Plant Barn Cafe, coffee was good and the staff were great at customising meals to fit us. We had fish and chips (the fish serving size was a bit small but they were fresh and delicious), toasted sandwiches were great, I had the omelette with mozzarella, onions and chicken and it was delicious

Nice cafe, good atmosphere but the food needs to be served warmer! The people who i ate with also made similar comments. But it was at least picturesque.

First visit... Beautiful environment and peaceful ambience. Friendly, efficient and helpful service, too :) The Chicken & Bacon Burger was incredible and the Brioche French Toast was superb! Plus, the Hot Chocolates... amazing. Everything in large quantities and delicious - easily worth the money! Plus, gotta appreciate any eatery that's got heaps of tissues on the table as opposed to just one. The restrooms were of high hygiene & cleanliness standards. All in all, it's easily the best cafe in the Mt Albert/St Lukes area! And, I'm surprised I had to dig to find this place online... they should market the hell out of it!

Yummy food in nice setting of Kings garden centre. Pictured is the satay chicken wrap with salad $13.90 & kids waffles $12, plus some of the delicious looking sweet treats in the cabinet

A huge food selection. But the frittata caught my eye. Excellent service, high food standard and the coffee was nice and smooth.

An awesome cafe, always come here when I am in the suburb. Perfect dishes and environment. Plates are big enough for an average person. Quick service. Thanks. Recommend to everyone.

Had a lovely time here! This cafe has an amazing, warm and cozy interior and excellent service. All the staff are friendly, was served by a cheerful and energetic waiter, Alex, who provided all that I needed almost immediately. A perfect balance of speed and quality, absolutely no compaints! Will certainly come back with more people.

The coffee (my long black) is the best you can get. I divert just to have this coffee and the service is amazing. Debra is the best barrista. I get so much productive administration work done here because of the quality.

Kings Plant Centre is one of my favourite haunts in general. Always buy my plants from there because they always grow. The great bonus for me as I wander happily amongst the plants is the excellent coffee I get here- one of the best in Auckland. I also particularly like how amongst the staff, they seem happy and fun and a bit irreverent whilst being highly professional in their service. The woman manager who is on in the weekend seems to bring out off all of these great attributes in her team. Keep it up. Kings in general has great friendly, professional service - it’s real and it’s good

1 Oct 2019<br/><br/>I was at this coffee shop having my lunch yesterday when one of the staffs started doing cleaning the table with chemical bottle sprayer and when she sprayed we have most chemicals going to the air and we are breathing with it and not stopping the chance that chemicals went to our foods and drinks. Getting more worse when one of the staff started sweeping around the place. I tell you, nothing pisses me off more than when someone does this while the rest of the world is eating.<br/><br/>This isn’t the first time I see it happening here. It’s a common thing for staffs to do at this coffee shops, to save time, but to have your staffs sweep the floor while customers are in the midst of eating, is just beyond me…! I think that it is so so rude..!<br/><br/>Where is their sense of hygiene and courtesy to customers..?!?!<br/><br/>The level of airborne dust that sweeping creates or bring up is just beyond description.<br/><br/>I know a lot of people feel the same way as I do, but the thing is that, they choose to ignore or close an eye to it. This I cannot accept. Being in one of cleanest country, we need to guide and educate people of all level that it is not an acceptable thing to do. There must be better ways to carry out the cleaning process without affecting the customers.<br/>

I made a group booking 2 weeks in advance for 8 of my colleagues and requested to be seated outdoors, I was assured via email that this would be arranged. However, come the 21st September my booking was apparently confused with another and so we were seated indoors on a rather beautiful day! I did receive an apology after approaching staff but it was rather disappointing, especially when I booked in advance to avoid having any issues. I did however enjoy my 'King's Breakfast', very generous portions! We're all human, miscommunications happen but I don't believe I will come here with my work again... perhaps just myself so I can actually be seated outdoors this time haha!

SHOCKING SERVICE!<br/>Saturday 21st Sept 3.45-4.20<br/> My daughter and I dropped in for a quick drink and something to eat.  The place was empty; there was absolutely no excuse for the 20-25 minute wait for my salad and smoothie!<br/>My girl had to go to the counter to remind them. Initially, they brought out the salad but after 25 minutes, when we had to leave, I had to ask them - there were 4 workers milling around - what had happened to the smoothie!  The young woman replied ' Sorry, he forgot!'<br/>Incredible!  I have frequented cafes around Auck for decades (and my friends and I often pop into this place), and this is the first time this has happened! MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO ENSURE THEIR EMPLOYERS MAKE CUSTOMER SERVICE A PRIORITY.  I will let my friends know not to go there again and of course, we will not step foot into the cafe again.<br/>You have competition, you can't afford to be lazy with your service.  It will come back to haunt you!
Tony
Nice place we enjoyed our lunch.

I got the open steak sandwich. The portions are giant here! It was messy to eat but the taste is good 😋<br/>There's a cute play area for the kiddies too 🌿

Lovely place to enjoy a coffee and sweet treat. Delicious food from the cabinet and clever use of space to keep kids entertained. Friendly staff and gorgeous surroundings.

Had an awesome lunch today! Chef made this yummy, plus healthy pan-fried fish with roasted veggies! Thanks Chef for awesome lunch! Barista and other staff are very friendly too! Love to have lunch there.

Secret hidden gem for vegetarians!! I don't know why this has such a low rating? I love it here! Fantastic food, friendly staff, presented beautifully! The vegetarian selection is really good - my fave is the eggs bene on corn fritters! If you want something basic you can make your own plate with the side options too. The fries are plentiful! Perfect portions, great coffee/tea selection. There is usually a bit of a queue but thats because its popular. Give it a try! Outside seating on a nice day too.

Far too hot to eat outside, they need to amend there pergola and wind breaker to allow a breeze through. <br/><br/>Manager was absolutely horrible when she didn't take our order correctly, blamed the children and proceeded to have a go at them when an adult had to step in and tell her to back off. Very loud Asian lady. Highly disgusted with her conduct - suggest she receives further training. Dont blame your customer when you dont get the order correct. Not to mention food came out for our table of 10 at different times, kids served last.

past <br/>This Cafe use to be very good, <br/>and we would as a family make a effort to make it a weekly happening, <br/><br/>present<br/><br/>Staff   are rude, and didn't not want to serve us, <br/> they didn't seem to<br/>want to be there. rolling there eyes, and lack of customer care. <br/><br/>Food average, and smoothies are  small, and expensive.
Nina
Good quality food. I come often. Superb coffee. Halloum beetroot salad, caesers salad, eggs benedict, chk avocado burger with the plum sauce all yum! <br/>

Met my daughter here. Was very impressed with the place, the walkway through the centre was covered in making it good walking in the rain. The staff are very pleasant and attractive. You should see the size of the Eccles cakes. I used to have it heated, but discovered that it got quite messy,so now I don't bother and it's a lot easier. I had( in fact I had 2) honey ginger drink. heavenly! ! Can't wait to go back

I don't know how the owner expects to run an establishment with not only rude, arrogant staff but also being quite obnoxious herself. I sat while eating my lunch to witness one of the waitress' get 'annoyed' with a hard of hearing elderly customer. Just because you were unable to understand her order properly does not give you the right to be rude to her. She was a lovely lady and I felt extremely saddened for her as she waited not only 20 minutes for the WRONG order but another 15 minutes for what she initially ordered! Absolutely appalling, she should have been compensated for that but you continued to make her pay the difference. Not impressed.

Came here for lunch yesterday as weather wasn't great so wanted somewhere close to home. Came in with my partner for lunch before going out to advertise my business. Food was awesome, portion sizes were good value for their price. We ordered mince on toast, an omelette, and wedges with cheese, hot chocolate and a mocha. Food was really good and well presented. Attentive staff were also good, going around the tables ensuring customers were satisfied. Will definitely be back for lunch again :-)
Sandi
Yeah, nah. <br/><br/>We used to come here years ago but then they hiked the prices up to ridiculous levels so this is our first time back in about 3 years. <br/><br/>Although the prices have lowered, it seems the quality and standard has also lowered. <br/><br/>30 minute wait for nachos that were microwaved! No seasoning and strangely sweet. <br/><br/>3 of the 4 meals came out and then we waited another 10 minutes for the French toast. <br/><br/>Maybe we'll give it another 3 years before we return, then again, maybe we just won't bother<br/><br/>UPDATE went back yesterday and it was much better. Will be going back in the future. Must have changed hands!<br/>
Cheryl
Yummy eggs Benedict on hash browns beautifully decorated and delicious passion fruit cake and very attentive, efficient staff. A relaxing place for lunch or a catch up with friends. Nice to be able to browse the plants on the way out. Will definitely continue coming here😀

Love this place! They made me the best soy hot chocolate. I can never get someone to make me a good one, but this place does! I've had the haloumi brushetta many times and love it. I've also had the veggie nachos which was delicious too. I ordered porridge and it was way too much, but I loved it, it had some nice spiced apple in it. The staff are very lovely! Never had a problem with this place.

Food is invariably good quality, good staff and reasonable prices. I've been often enough to really appreciate that. But, too often you seem incapable of assessing staff numbers to customer ratio. Today, I waited 30+ minutes for a basic lunch order and only then did it arrive when I sought to speak to you, the manager! Too often, the response is "I sorry, I sorry, I sorry". This isn't good enough as it has become a ceaselessly recurring excuse and a situation that is simply not being addressed by you as the manager. If you are short-staffed, indicate to customers at the counter that there'll be a delay of 10, 15 or 20 minutes. Don't leave us hanging. This only engenders ill-will towards you and your staff. I'll decide if I'm willing to wait or not and no offence will be taken. Smarten up your footwork. Manager - your staff deserve the same support as your customers. And, while I'm at it, please indicate to your staff that ceaseless yelling in the kitchen is easily overheard by your customers. I was tempted to ask you to make just a little more noise as I doubted everyone in Australia could here you as well!

I have eaten here often, but today may be my last visit. I ordered eggs benedict with salmon on hash browns. My companion ordered something from the chill cabinet. It would have been better had I done the same. It took 45 minutes (yes, THREE-QUARTERS OF AN HOUR!) for them to arrive, and then only after two visits to the counter to ask how long they would be. To top it all, the food was LUKEWARM. I asked to speak to the manager, and was told that they didn't have one, and that the owner was in the kitchen. I asked to speak to the owner. It didn't happen, although a man sitting nearby did get to speak to her - after he asked twice. He got up and left in disgust at what arrived for him - it wasn't what he had ordered, apparently. Yes, there was a large party ahead of us, and yes, they had all ordered cooked dishes, but the staff could have advised that there might be a delay with my order.  But no, "we'll take your money and you can wait" They didn't even offer so much as a complimentary coffee or tea by way of compensation!  APPALLING!!

I live locally and this is my go-to café to take friends to! The food is always fresh and plentiful and the staff know my coffee order! We generally order off the blackboard and I find the staff very helpful if you want to alter the set menu!!!

I love their mango smoothie!<br/>The sandwiches out front are not very good, but the eggs benedict is delicious, specially the potato hash......

The place have been well located on the Asquith Ave. in Mt Albert as the only eatery place in the corner. With AIS college at back and other shops around place makes a good location for them. coming to the environment of the place is very good giving a peaceful atmosphere a good place for any kind of person to enjoy the time, with nice greenery around giving a natural look to the place. but its just like any other cafe.<br/>Regarding the people, its a small cafe with perfect amount people to serve you, but I found them running unnecessary here and there, even if there is just one table, I can not figure out why.<br/>I am a coffee lover and in this country coffee is same every where is going just for normal Cappuccino or mocha or any other similar, not much of difference. I had a Chicken Mushroom filo which tastes really bad, it did not have that perfect blend of Mushroom, and chicken with eggs, and in my portion chicken was given one side and mushroom the side of filo.<br/>I did not found a healthy relationship between staff and customers even I have been a regular customer.

Itt's the walking through the fragrant garden first thing in the morning then sipping from a cup of really good coffee...   love it.

Terrible experience.  Ordered vege nachos, after waiting quite a while they brought out beef.  The second attempt was just a bowl of broken corn chips with a large dollop of beans in tomato sauce on top.  The beans tasted okay, but bland.  No cheese, no sour cream, or anything else.  For $12.90, I felt ripped off.  Won't be going back.

The service was terrible, the milk shakes we ordered took over half an hour to get, that was only after we complained. Slices were hard been in the fridge to long.. This was a lunch time sitting... never go back again... I think they need go and look at Kings Henderson cafe to learn how to run a cafe..

Pleasantly surprised by this little cafe. Good coffee, perfectly cooked poached eggs and a generous serving of delicious bacon. Recommend the eggs benedict! Quiet but friendly service. Nice way to start the weekend :)

the food is above average... not great enough to warrant the prices in my opinion though. small to reasonable serving sizes = another downer.

Coffee is lovely but food not that great. I have had lunch here a few years ago. I decided go inside for an afternoon tea yesterday and ordered a carrot cake muffin - it tasted stale and wasnt moist. I have been to other Kings Garden cafes in Auckland and they are amazing. This one not so great.

Went here about 10 days ago, planning to buy some plants and,as it was a little later, we decided to have our late lunch at this cafe.  We'd been there a couple of years back and experienced good to average service and food but as we were there, why not?<br/>I recall the time was about 3.20 pm and there were still diners eating so we had no reason to assume that there would be a problem.  Ordered two baked potatoes from the cabinet at $10.50 each and was about to hand over payment.<br/>"Is the kitchen still open?" said the young lass on the counter.  This was directed not to us but to two other staff members doing nothing in particular.  Moments hesitation as if we had asked some deep philosophical question on the meaning of life...<br/>"Ah....no"<br/>There seemed little point in continuing to proffer my $30 or to suggest that it would be fairly simple to remove the goods, microwave them and serve them to us along with coffee and a cake.<br/>My comments therefore do not apply to the food but merely to a level of service that fell far below what I expect these days.<br/>St Lukes got our hard-earned money about 30 minutes later.....
CJ
Not the best experience... Cakes were stale, and dry. Made a complaint and all they did was heat them up in the microwave. Icing melted all over the plate, making them inedible. Won't be returning there in a hurry.

I'm not the kind of person to go around complaining about things, I prefer to spread positive vibes and congratulate people on good things. But I would be remiss if I didn't also give feedback of negative experiences too occasionally, in the hope they will care enough to improve. Based on today's experience though, I'm not sure they will even care enough to improve.<br/>My partner and I thought we'd check out this cafe today as we live very locally and it would be a great spot to go back to, but unfortunately, based on the experience today I can't say we will be going back any time soon.<br/><br/>I'm a terrible chef, but I could make better food at home and for cheaper. The ingredients used were cheap rubbish and it was not cooked well.  The cutlery we were given had food on it. What we ordered and paid for wasn't what was delivered to our table and instead of being told or receiving an apology for the missing/swapped items, they simply delivered different, much worse items and hoped we didn't notice. Then when we informed them they simply said "yeah we are out of the other stuff".<br/><br/>Another customer on our table also had items that she was unhappy with, and instead of the staff apologising for its poor quality and offering to replace it, the customer had to pay extra to swap it for something edible. <br/><br/>So, unfortunately, very poor scores for food and for service.  We will go elsewhere and maybe try again in 6 months or so and hope they have improved. But I wouldn't recommend this place at all.  I might go there for coffee again but not for food, and I probably wouldn't even want to go there for coffee simply because I wouldn't like to support a company who blatantly don't care about the service they offer.

We had breakfast here over the Easter Break. We will come back as we had a very lovely meal. We had blueberry hotcakes and the French Toast, both dishes were presented well and were very nice and had generous portions. I loved the ginger latte which was quite strong - unique. I think I am hooked on this drink and will have to pop in again soon. Service good and staff friendly. No problems with parking for breakfast. Prices also competitive. Recommended.

We came here for lunch on Saturday. We'd hesitated because, whilst a morning tea at the Henderson store some months ago had been very nice, the reviews here were.. mixed. Spotting they were mostly from 2012, we took a gamble and went anyway. Definitely don't regret it! Better half had a bacon and asparagus quiche with a side salad, and I ordered the lamb cumin burger: It was huge, well balanced, and you could tell the pattie was home made. <br/>We just about managed to fit in the shared lemon and pistachio slice. Lots of icing, and very sweet. All that in the sun, with some cold fruit juices / iced teas. Yum. Will definitely come back!

Went today for some veges for the garden and popped in for a coffee, the Thai chicken salad looked great so I had a small bowl - it was huge for $6.50 Daughter had the brownie and it was a really nice Brownie. Coffees were great as per usual<br/><br/>I want that salad recipe it was stunning

Came to Kings Garden Cafe a couple of times as we work near by but it is just not up to standard. <br/>We were not happy with the food at all. Coffee and staff were great but food disappointing.
Pauline Bennett
Lovely venue, lovely staff, very extensive menu BUT I ordered the bacon and creamy mushroom dish and it was awful . A steaming mass of tasteless, floury grey gloop is the best way to describe it. I couldn't get past the first mouthful. The bacon was tasty but only a small single rasher which I ate on one of the 3 pieces of grilled crumbly focaccia bread which came with the dish . Not a good experience for me on my first visit.
Maggie G
We have had varying experiences on our visits to this cafe, usually due to the time of day and what you order the coffee is always good and hot and all the cabinet food looks good - the sandwiches are fresh and fairly standard, the muffins are large and full of fruit and the brownie isa wickedly indulgent, rich chocolate treat! If you order from the kitchen and they are busy, be prepared for a wait, sometimes long. The brunch dishes are the usual fare, but on our last visit the bacon was crispy and plentiful, hot cakes soft and fluffy, but I wouldn't recommend the bland mushrooms. I haven't tried any lunch dishes from the menu , though I'm told the chicken salad is very good <br/>However the setting is lovely, surrounded by plants , they have seating inside and out and it's child friendly- especially if you sit outside as the birds come and clean up the crumbs! The staff are friendly and helpful too
