Review Lowlander - Auckland

Dennis Pimentel
Very friendly service and good fresh food as well. Lemon grass chicken is superb. Steam boat is recommended as they have huge variety of seafood, meat, veggies to choose from. Dessert of durian is very nice and it just taste like REAL VIETNAM. Stem boat comes with drinks and a small buffet cooked meal to choose from. Kids friendly as well.

Tried calling them an number of times but they wont pick the phone and then read all the Groupon vouchers dilemma and its no wonder that they are not answering their phone for bookings as one of the clause in the Groupon voucher was to make reservations. It was really kind that Groupon refunded my money so I don't have to go to this place or think about it....I hate businesses those don't honor their commitments.

Great food and service, will be back :) We had west chicken and the steak. Steak cooked perfectly and delicious sauce on the chicken. Cream brulee was really nice too.

Absolute scum. Call to make booking. First thing they ask is if we had a voucher. We were told no ribs after responding yes. Then we called again, answered no we don't have a voucher , is there one on offer? Staff advised um um um.... well I can do a discount at $20 per person but sometimes there are people with vouchers and it gets real busy so we have to prioritise. Absolute scum of the earth. Does voucher promo on groupon and then won't honour deals. so basically they are trying to charge full retail whenever possible and then forcing your paid voucher to expire and then trying to undercut groupon by coercing voucher holders to pay cash and not redeem their voucher. Reported to groupon for fraud.

I bought groupon vouchers for my husbands birthday and was suppose to go for lunch. We took the day off so that we can enjoy lunch. I made the booking 2 weeks ago and was planning our day around this lunch
Manager called me 8pm night before we due to go for lunch advising he don't have any ribs to serve us and that I need to either come the day after or I need to come for dinner
I explained to him that if I come for dinner I need to buy dinner for 3 more people and we back at work the next day
He said well then I need to call groupon and sort a refund out with them upon me asking how much he would ask me the 3 extra people he said $20 per person even that the voucher for 4 people would have only be $65
I would not recommend this to anybody as the manager did not even try to accommodate me as a new client😶

As a man who felt adventurous on a friday morning, I decided to give lowlander a shot.
Calamari tasted decent but the portion was small , the chips feels average as well.
Highlight was that they do offer specials on different weekdays after 5pm

Had "All you can eat ribs" - was awesome. Great food, great service, great prices. Highly recommended. The restaurant was very clean, unfortunately they had been robbed the night before and the front glass door had been smashed. Also, a lot of their alcohol had been stolen, so they were a bit light on drink choices understandably.

I think the best part about this place is the staff. I went in to order a pizza for our family and I didn't have any coupons, but the guy behind the counter hooked us up with a special they had running and helped us save a couple of bucks. We recently visited for the lunch buffet with the kids and had a good meal. I like that they will listen to what you want to have put on the buffet and my fave is their cheese bread (basically a cheese pizza sans sauce). Good pizza, love the little pepperonis!

Came here for a 21st dinner with the high hopes of a lovely three course meal. I had got the starter as spicy chicken wings which was very morish and came with a sauce. The ribs for the main was disappointing and left me unsatisfied. Dessert was a brownie which was rich yet at the end I wasnt satisfied and full. And the food was clearly very average.

Visited Lowlander today with 3 adults and one child. The restaurant was casual, tidy and clean. Staff were friendly and greeted us as we walked in.

For an entree we ordered the garlic and herb pizza which was delicious though it took a long time to come out. For the mains we ordered the ribs, steak dish, mixed grill and the children's meal pasta dish. The ribs were tough and did not fall off the bone, it came with ONLY 4 wedges and a coleslaw style salad . The steak was tough and rubbery and the mushroom sauce was not very pleasant. For the mixed grill it was hard to distinguish what meat was what as the skewers were covered with an unusual tasting sauce that wasn't very nice. Overall, our meals were not that great, so I don't think we will be back

Went to try out this place with the Groupon voucher. I ordered the ribs and my partner ordered the Chicken Valentino. Chicken was dry and ribs had hardly any meat on it. Also looked like it was just cooked in the sauce rather than barbecued. I wouldn't call it a good experience. Won't go back again even though they have good specials.

Visited Lowlander this evening with family. First impression very bar like place, with a casual setting.
Got the all you can eat BBQ pork ribs which was $20. The ribs were nice and worth the price. The slaw was nice too and the chips that came on the side was not what it was from what I have heard from other people who have visited. They said you get a bowl of chips but not anymore, you get four wedges.

The menu has errors such as Vanilla beans which was spelt been.
Need to reread the menus and look for spelling errors.

Service was good, however not enough staff on the floor. Some of the food took a while especially the two course menu.

Overall it was average could have been a better experience. Don't think we'll be visiting again.

Purchased a Groupon coupon for two steak meals and two pints of beer today, and went in for lunch. First thing to note, horrible parking available and the restaurant smelt a little funky.. Anyway, the weirdest thing I have ever experienced while dining anywhere... The waiter did not ask how we would like our steak cooked? She simply took the coupon code and returned to the bar. Positive that she would come back to ask, we sat back. But to no avail she returns ten minutes later with two steaks in hand. Both cooked about medium rare covered in a sickly rich mushroom sauce. Not wanting to throw a fuss, we ate and left asap. Long story short.. bad location, below average service (lovely waitress just lacks training), mediocre food, unpleasant toilets, would not dine again.

Went for dinner with some friends few weeks ago and it was very nice. The food was very nicely cooked and presented. service was excellent and premises was clean. I had the calamari for an entree and I was impressed with the dish. I followed with BBQ pork ribs which also was delicious.
My wife ordered 250g Scotch Fillet in medium rare. She had for choice garlic mashed potato or chunky fries, Red wine jus or Mushroom sauce. Her selected chunky fries and Mushroom sauce. Its came with onion rings as well. woow.. she said stake was amazing,
We are recommending this place for all ! Enjoy feel and the deference !

I purchased the voucher online for all you can eat BBQ ribs. When we arrived my partner and I were very excited to dine, but were greeted very poorly once the manager found out we were dining with the voucher. he was happy to seat us but after finding out were using the voucher he told us we were suppose to make an reservation and the place was full, when it clearly wasnt. we rung earlier and he gladly told us we didn't need a reseration. He made us feel very uncomfortable and although the BBQ ribs were adequate they came out cold. They served the ribs with literally 4 wedges and a couple of leaves as a salad. If you order 2nds you dont get chips or salad and the bowl of chips for $3.50 literally has about 8chips inside the bowl. During our dining the manager didnt bother to ask us if we wanted anymore .. IT IS ALL YOU CAN EAT and he made us feel like it was a Hassel if we ordered more. They didn't refill our water or bother to even smile as we left. Across us were customers who were complaining because their meal wasn't cooked right & the manager just apologized without offering compensation. This place has ok food but the service is disgusting!

I came here only because of my boyfriend - a crazy ribs eater- and his friends bought all you can eat ribs voucher from Lowlander, they just so tempted with the cheap price they offer.

But guess what??
1. the ribs weren't really cooked properly, most of them were still really hard.. Also, they gave us SOOOO little amount of chips. U serious??

2. The food came soooo late! dang! i was waiting for my pizza for 1 hour.. u serious? they kept saying, 5 mins, 2 mins --" whatsoever...

3. My pizza that I ordered was Peri peri pizza but it didn't have any peri peri taste at all.. then, i found the bread wasnt cooked properly, what i could taste was YEAST and still so doughy.

So, overall.. it wasnt worth it at all, i know u wanna come for cheap price of ribs but driving this far? 0.5/5 perhaps.
Grabbed the all you can eat ribs deal through groupon and sadly this place did not meet my expectations!! I can understand that this place is new and just starting out but at least get some decent waitresses and chefs! We walked in and the place looks nice. The service so slack! We had to ask for menus there were 4 of us and she brings 2 menus. Then we waited for our drinks for over 15 minutes! One of us ordered a mojito which took over 15 minutes to make and came in a standard tall glass and was so not worth the price! I ordered a rekorderling bottle according to the menu and the waitress brought me a single glass? I questioned why I didn't get the bottle that was on the menu and I paid for being $14 the bar guy says it's actually a can and that it's equivalent to the bottle?! I argued with him and said that when I order a bottle I usually get 2 glasses out of it but no he insisted the can and bottle were the same! The people next to us sent their food back twice which gave us an indication that we needed to me weary of the food! Anyway the ribs arrived with hardly any sauce and literally 4 potato chips!! They were cold as well!! We were very disappointed in the quality of the meat and the fact that they were cold tells us that they just heated it up again!!! My partner got home and spewed his guts out which never happens! The only upside to this place was the garlic pizza bread which is over priced! Even the table they put the four of us on was so tiny we had no room to order anything else!

Had the sirloin steak on chips with salad and a portion of the garlic herb pizza bread. The pizza bread was divine even though we had to wait a little more than 45mins for any food to be brought to the table. The steak was mediocre and the salad that was mentioned on the menu turned out to be a tbsp of a decorative sprouting herb sitting on top of soggy onion rings. The most disappointing part of the experience was how long we had to wait for our food and it wasn't even busy. We were not offered menus or water till we asked for both things. Service needs to be worked on as well as time management and quality of food.

A group of us went for all you can eat ribs thinking it would be a social fun night out.... we were mistaken. The service at lowlander leaves a lot to the imagination. We were offered a drinks menu and thats it, we had to chase up the menu to order appetizers as well as refills on our drinks. The food was not bad pretty hit and miss on the quality of ribs, the wings were good but would not suggest the calamari... overall the night was pretty meh.

Saturday night dinner, four guest. We all had steak, food is ok ,the highlight would be the battered onion rings, thumbs up for that. I guess service needs a bit more tweaking --un lit candles, water but no glass, steak knives reminders .one positive is that the waitress does comes and greets any one coming thorough the doors ,that you hardly see any more (cheers) they are relatively new lets see in months to come

Bought the all-you-can-eat BBQ pork ribs Groupon voucher and dined here on a Saturday night. In addition to the bbq ribs, we ordered 3 other sets of their 2-course special deal that includes the entrées spicy wings, salt & pepper calamari, mains salmon pasta, lamb rump, chicken and dessert creme brûlée. It was a long wait for food and drinks even though the place was really quiet. Meal portion is huge but food was mediocre and service below par.

We decided to go for a Sunday night meal at Lowlander. We were not impressed but it wasn't a total wreck. Service was okay, prices good. I got 4 medium potato chips with my ribs. At least double that would have been acceptable. The ribs were a bit tough. I think the worst part if that they use budget cutlery. My steak knife snapped when cutting the ribs. It's the little things sometimes that can make a big difference. It just makes you think what else are they using that is low quality?

Lowlander was opened a couple of months ago in Pakuranga. Its central location has been used as Chinese restaurants since the 90's, but failed to attract diners for unknown reasons and I wish Lowlander could come to fruition.

My friends & I ordered drinks, pizza bread, calamari & spicy wings as starters, char-grilled sirloin steak & smoked salmon pasta as mains, and chocolate brownie & ice-cream as desserts. They all came in a generous size. Both taste & plating were good. Sirloin steaks were tough though cooked medium-rare. Service was slow, probably due to insufficient wait staff. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 3/5; Ambience - 3/5)
