Review New Garden Restaurant - Auckland

ZY
As with other chinese restaurants in New Zealand, portions are easily twice or almost thrice the size of normal servings found in Asian countries. Hence, one portion could easily feed 3 so do exercise restrain when ordering, else you would have quite a bit of leftover. Food was nice and service was okay, nothing to complain about but nothing that particularly stands out either. Would visit again. Good if you're looking for authentic Asian cooking though. Limited Street parking but I believe there are lots at the park/field directly opposite the restaurant.

This place does some dishes well and some can be improved. The service is reasonable but improving with some new hire that understands English better than others. Although prices has risen, some dishes still has great value. I like how the taste doesn't come from too much sauces. Some noodle dishes does contain "wok" flavor and this brings the dish another level. Best to call and book a table on weekends or you might find yourself disappointed.

It’s rare to find a Chinese restaurant that can prepare vegetarian style dishes and still make it tasty but New Garden does it so well! My family and I are always coming over here. The dishes we always order are the eggplant dish and the stir fried long beans. However our new favorite is the lamb chop. So tender and juicy! I can just order this and have the sauce over plain rice. Make sure to give this place a try if you’re craving Chinese food the next time!

This place slaps hard. Their tofu dish tasted on point. Lamb chops was super tender. Everything was top quality and very well seasoned.

Love this place. Consistently offers great food. I particularly love the Pho (beef noodle soup). I got at least once a week, now.

Great dishes and superb customer service! Thank you for the two gentlemen and their staff of such a wonder service from start to finish! We will be back with our group of friends next time.

Food is good. Portion is big. Used to have to wait Long for take away but improve since they introduce online ordering.

Been here many times. Their price and quality is always good. Food is tasty, we love their sweet and sour pork and wat tan hor the most. Their cereal prawn is just ok and needs more flavour but overall, everything is very good here and taste like homemade. The owner is quite clean as well, especially during Covid times.

Went to have lunch here today, the Waitress attitude was very poor. She used the same teapot that someone finished using and pour the same tea inside the pot for us to use (Doesn't bother to get a new set) Seriously, is this resturant lack of tea pot and tea bag? When it comes to ordering food, her attitude was poor very bad and kept hurrying us (What's the rush? Are you trying to kick us out?) Also, Can the waitress put a smile on the face, it looks like we've own you a million! The waitress saw us Just Ordered two plates of food she immediately said "Just two?" just because we don't know how big the plate is, you don't need to immediately reply us with that rude answer, because we haven't even decided yet if two is enough or not and not everyone can eat alot because everyone's stomach has a limited therefore we asked if we could order two just for now and later on can asked for more later on. We were about to keep the Menu to save it later but she took all four menu's away, we didn't say "We had enough" but we asked her whether "If we could keep a Menu and ask later" but Not even bother listening to our answer, she decided to take the four Menu away! Because my Grandfather was abit clumsy and spilled water on the table, i've decided to get a tissue paper from the next table and i didn't notice till my friend told me that the waitress is looking at you with her grumpy eyes as if someone is stealing her stuff. With this poor attitude and lack of respect, I would not want to come here again! If you want to improve your resturant, Please either some common sense and sense of humour and improve your co worker's attitude, I wasn't impress at all today by the look of it. Its disgraceful and the price isn't cheap too, and by looking at your waitress facial expression, I must say I didn't have a nice lunch which I thought i would today.

Great food! Affordable! We always come here and the food quality never change.

Food was good also good size portions but the waitress had a very bad attitude! My 2 year old daughter dropped a cheap plastic cup so my wife asked for another one the waitress yelled at her and said your not getting anymore if you are going to throw them away. Also they want you to hurry up eat and get out... Check the price before you pay I was over charged $5 will never go back!

I would rate it 0 star if I can. Unfriendly and impolite staff!

Great place to visit. Excellent food and way worth the price. Enjoyed it here.

Food quality, price, atmosphere, all 5 star. Only area for improvement is the wait time is long at peak hour when business is good. However during off peak hour food arrive very quickly. Overall highly recommend.

Really nice foods but some waitress can't understand english and can't speak so a little bit hard to communicate hopefully next time you can train them to communicate well to the costumers..thanks..

Stop reading and go eat here! Soooooo good. Cute little restaurant. Spotless! Portions are large, service is good, food is AMAZING. OMG GOOD, AMAZING! Even my fussy child loves it! I can't believe how much he's eaten, lol. Love love love!

what can I say? SUPERB! another plain frontage in a row of modest eateries. once inside, nothing like its neighbours. a simple new clean décor, prompt excellent service, complimentary peanuts set the standard, food delivered in short time at a busy period. I take my hat off to the chef(s). good quality ingredients, beautifully FRESHLY cooked and presented. no overpowering seasoning, but a subtle flavouring allowing you to taste individual ingredients. each dish with its flavour highlights. generous servings and competitively priced. deserves to succeed! will be back many more times and letting everyone know.

One of the nicest Asian style family restaurant in Flat Bush! It is quite busy most of the time so it may be good to book the table in advance. Love their wat tan hor (rice noodle with gravy sauce). Look forward to come back again to try more menus!

Food and service is great!! Awesome for a group meal

Always yummy food and fast service. My favourite would have to be the crispy pork chops. I always go here whenever I'm craving for this. Soups are good too but a little bland to my taste. Chicken on ginger and spring onions are average. Still a great meal if you ask me.

Food is tasty, 4 stars
Service: No star

That boss lady attitude.......
Two of us went there for Sunday evening dinner after 7:30,
it was quite empty. we order two dishes knowing that we wouldn't finish it.
(their portions are pretty big) and her smiley face turned into ...
she looked at her note pad two times and said do you want to order more its only two dishes..
we ended up ordering 2 more dishes.
food was great tho..
I guess this is Norm, trend in Auckland, once the restaurant become popular and you get
sh.t service.

Recently dine in with my husband and family. Lovely and welcoming staff and decor. I made a booking a day prior so I was very please they were able to squeeze us in during their peak hours.

Since it was my first time here. I'm grateful that the server took time to recommend us a few dishes.

I would highly recommend to inform the server on what your palette type is and what you are looking forward to dine for. You wont be disappointed :)

I ordered both dishes recommended by my server and I'm in love. will definitely come back again as a regular after church Sunday brunch. 🥰🤩🥰🍻

This place is a semi-fusion of vietnamese and chinese. Maybe fusion not exactly the right term to use. More like you can order Chinese or Vietnamese food. I have dined in a couple of times and have also order takeaways on mamy ocassions. My favourite is their pineapple fried rice.

I came here on a Saturday for lunch with a friend, the restaurant was already quiet full. We were seated quiet fast and the food came quicker than expected considering how packed it was! The guy who served us was very friendly. We ordered medium spicy, chicken ginger and spring onion. It was so tasty 😍😍😍😍😍 however it was REALLY HOTT. It definitely wasnt medium spicy but the chicken was so delicious I'd order it again.

The only downside - the restaurant is really cramped/congested especially with the big round tables in the middle. It made it difficult to pass though the tables in the middle once people were seated. I'd suggest leaving more space to pass though once people are seated on both sides. I definitely would have given 5 stars if the place wasnt so cramped together.

Overall, the food was perfect and so yummy I would definitely recommend everyone to come try.

When I got there around noon, most of the tables were taken already. I booked for my family beforehand so no need to wait.

From the pictures of ambience, I expected the place has a neat and relaxing atmosphere but it seemed changed now. The restaurant was cramped with big round tables fully occupying the extra space.
I felt the space for passing through and between each tables were too narrow and tight.

We ordered 6 dishes, some of them tasted low sodium for our tongues and wanted to adjust them with more seasonings.
The chunks of beef steak with tomato rice were chewy but had a nice flavor. I liked the beef in the rice noodles better. I didn't like the texture of the fried thin noodles. Lemon chicken scored high by 2 family members.

The serving ladies were polite with greeting.

This place is a regular for my family, as they are Chinese. Came here for lunch today and ordered the entree - Vietnamese Spring Rolls, main - Lemongrass Chicken on Rice and the Mie Goreng. They were all very good and tasty. This place's quality is pretty consistent compare to a lot of other Chinese restaurants. They are always packed and they serve food very fast due to this. Service is always around average, because they really want to serve more customers, so they like to rush things. Overall, if you want to have good Chinese food, this place is will not disappoint you.

Taste - 4/5
Service - 3/5
Value - 4/5

This is our 4th time here but this time we ordered a takeaway. I wasnt able to snap photos during our dine-ins as we are always excited to eat their food. New Garden is an asian fusion restaurant and it taste pretty authentic! I absolutely love everything on their menu. Quality food, generous servings and the price is just right.
Helen Wang
The food was okay but we were overcharged for our order and were told that it was "only a few dollars anyway" when we confronted them. Did not want to ask further as there was a line behind us waiting to pay.

Great value for money without sacrificing the quality of taste. General Tso chicken is our go-to! Colleagues never leave this place feeling hungry.

Small place yet provides great tasting food.
Highly recommended and we will be back to taste for more.
We have tried:

General tso chicken 5/5
Spicy salted squid 4/5
Sweet and sour prawn 4/5

The food is very tasty and generous portions. There are 2 things that need improvements: the service is not as friendly and the space is very tight and hectic. And make sure you make a reservation before you go!
Xi Zhang
Nice food and very tasty. It’s always very busy and better to take away. Very big portion, you don’t need to order too many dishes. The only problem is little bit expensive although very nice food.
Viviancho622
cheap and delicious food
The staff is unfriendly.
The food came out late because of the crowds.
Since it is delicious, I will come again next time.
One of my fav places to go . Its near my house and easy parking. Best place to eat and Friendly staff members.
Yummy food. Its worth it.
Thanks

Fantastic food. Take away or eat in. I really love their kitchen. Always fresh, so tasty! I have eaten in but prefer take out on Fridays. You must try if you have not yet! You will be satisfied. I guarantee.

Walked into a fully packed restaurant, which is always a good sign. Food was delicious and pricing was surprisingly cheap. Definitely will come back in the future.
Stephy_NakiGirl
What an awesome surprise! Have driven past this place so many times, but as it’s quite tiny, it’s easy to miss.
It was really busy (always a good sign) with both dine in & takeaway. We ordered the beef with veges & fish with broccoli which was quite expensive (as far as Chinese takeaways goes) at $25.00. It was probably some of the nicest Chinese we’ve had in ages though. Both fish & beef fresh & well cooked. Lots of fresh crispy veges, and a clean ginger taste throughout. They didn’t overuse thickner in the sauces which so many places do too.
Lorenae
awesome service and top notch food quality. Definitely a great place to dine with friends and family cos the food portions are just perfect for the price you pay. Highly recommend New Garden for everyone!!

Quite busy and long wait times. The food tend to be quite oily and usually one place isn't enough when doing take out. The menu has alot of items.

Came by with some family friends. Think they booked a table but we ended up waiting a bit outside to get the table ready.

the menu was an interesting mix of Chinese and Vietnamese food.

Their fried rice and noodles were nice. I wasn't the biggest fan of their sweet and sour sauce. The fried chicken was also nice.

There are a few parking spaces on the main road but there is plenty of parking around the back of the building.

This is a good place to eat. Not that expensive but delicious. Had the beef fried kway teow, mushroom with veggie, fried chicken and sweet and sour fish. Yummy!

Whether you’re wanting a quick lunch or around the table family dinner, New Garden is the place filled with delicious Asian food. It’s a small and cosy restaurant in the heart of Flat Bush with plenty of parking nearby. This place is definitely my go to when I’m around the area where I mostly go for lunch.

I tend to order the rare beef rice noodles - pho but I also like their side of lemongrass chicken. Their fried rice is also a go-to for me if I don’t feel like noodles. Most of their dishes are highly affordable and generous in portions.

They have a range of appetizers with their Vietnamese spring rolls as my favourite!
Vegetarian options are also available such as the deep fried tofu with cucumber strips and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce.

The environment is clean and serene - perfect for a family dinner. It has limited seats thus reservations are recommended.

Food 7/10
Ambience 6/10
Service 5/10
Price 7/10

Love love love this place. Usually get the grilled pork chop on rice or grilled chicken with tomato rice, they are both lovely dishes, full of flavour and fresh ingredients. I tried the chicken and sweetcorn soup and chicken friend rice today. they were both amazing. The soup had a really good flavour and the friend rice was full of fresh veges and big good quality chicken pieces. I appreciate that the dishes are healthy and clean, not like the oil soaked foods that you would usually find. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I will come back again and again.

Went for dinner. We had stir fry chicken in lemon grass and prawn, squid n scallops dish. The portions were big and the food was tasty. Cannot fault the service. Our waiter was amazing, attentive and recommended few dishes. 2 dishes can easily be shared between 3 people.
Amrita Prakash
Superb we had chicken fried rice general tso chicken and kung pao chicken...the potions were quiet big we couldn't finish everything between 4 of us happily brought it home for later..place was packed but there was no compromise with the quality of the food and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place to anyone whose looking for good food and can't afford disappointment

I love to come to this place since they opened. We started with ordering the dishes we knew. Then we came here more often (with family and other families) and started trying the other dishes we saw from other tables from last visits. Weekend is always packed, you won't get a table unless you book in advance (around the time they just opened). Hopefully my review here won't squeeze myself out from the table booking queue in future.

This place has a very nice atmosphere inside, nice soft music and the lady’s are lovely.
The food is amazing I would recommend the beef noodle soup it’s full of flavour and the beef is very soft and easy to eat, this soup is top marks can’t get any better than this. Also the pork tofu is also full of flavour and is very tasty.
The Chinese tea is very nice and relaxing

In over 20 visits to this restaurant including hiring the entire place twice for functions and getting takeaway as well, I have only ever had one small problem. Once the General Tso Chicken was slightly dry.
The staff are magnificent when care is taken with translation (use the numbers)
Because every dish is individually prepared after order don’t expect a fast food style service.
If they had 200 seats they would be full every night.
Steve Sarp
Came here with my Wife, and tried the General Tso Chicken dish and it was amazing. The style is different from the original Chinese wok fried with a bit of spicy sauce but it was a unique and tasty dish over all. Will come back again with some friends next time.

Dine here on a Sunday and having a small dining area it was packed. We ordered BN 2, 3 and 4 (Rice Noodle Soup) food was great, taste good but nothing special. Staff needs to work on their communication as its very hard to get your ordered correct on the first try
Calvin Chong
Good variety of Chinese and Vietnamese food. Taste is ok. We made booking and when the table was available, it was given to other guests who didn't book. Service is below average.

I'm not really a fan of this place. There was no wow factor in my opinion.
Ordered the chicken w/ fried noodles (CM5) and chicken, ginger and spring onion (CH8). Both dishes were really saucy which is what I love but the flavours were somewhat average.
The fried noodles were literally fried noodle which I did not like at all. The texture was really strange and It didn't soak up the sauces like normal noodles. Wasn't satisfying at all.
It's definitely worth a one time visit for me.
Joanne Chives
Clean, simple, good service, yummy food, good portion, reasonable price 👍🏻👍🏻 all the dishes I have tried here I have enjoyed. I will definitely recommend this place.
Simone Mulitalo
I did not like the food here. I ordered chicken on rice and my chicken had so much fat on it I could barely eat my meal. The place is so small and cramped and the food took a long time to come out. Will not be back
Chicken Wing
The atmosphere is great, with calm background music, but it does get stuffy at times. I've been here a few times and I usually get a Vietnamese chicken rice noodle soup. The chicken is always nice and tender and full of the classic Vietnamese lemongrass taste which is nice, but I found the soup a bit plain and the noodles could be softer. But it's still nice overall. I think their best dish would be the steamed bluecod fish, which is very fresh, soft and full of delicious seafood flavour. The food also comes pretty quickly and service is good, I always make special requests and order stuff that isn't on the menu and they put up with me with a nice and genuine smile so I'll give them a few points for that.
Environment: 8/10
Food: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Price: 6/10

This is a good place for family meals as u can order a few dishes to share. I have only been here for dinner and reservations are strongly recommended. Seating capacity is rather small but the quality of food has generally been good. The general tsao chicken is my favourite dish. Sweet and sour pork and liu sar bao are also good. However, prices are a little on the high side compared to the usual Chinese eateries and service can be rather slow. I've never tried their Vietnamese dishes but the standard of Chinese dishes are above average.

The food is pretty good but there is no service at all. When my brother dropped his chopsticks on the floor and ask for new ones, we weren't given one even when all the food had arrived. We just end up getting the ones from the vacant table next to us. When our teapot was empty and ask for some hot water to refill the teapot, we were never given any. My thought is that the tea is free so they don't want to give you any, they just expect you to hurry up and eat, leave down your money and GO!

The female owner, when taking your order will also tends to push and force you to order more food then you can eat. I have been here several times now and the experience had been more or less the same.
Magic Bleeds
Had the Kungpow chicken with egg fried rice & wonton soup. The chicken tasted okay but the vegetables in the chicken smelled really stale. The egg fried rice was both lumpy & hard. The only dish that was well cooked & tasted good were the pork & prawn wonton. I don't think I'll be going back again.

This place has always been busy and the food really is great! Been a regular customer since they were opened and the owner was lovely they really took feedbacks really well when I told them that I didn't get my sauce for the fish I bought. I would recommend this place to everyone. They are so clean and have disability toilet as well which is a plus for an Asian restaurant! The portion of food was fantastic too really great value for money I reckon.
Kerryj
This is a busy little place for lunch, we were lucky to get the last available table. I was a little disappointed when my stirfried rice noodles with beef arrived at the table, it was a plate of brown, no vegetable to add interest and colour to the plate. The mie goreng was the same, though both dishes tasted fine. The food was served as it came ready so my dish arrived to the table long before my son's rare beef rice noodle soup. Service was friendly. The servings were very generous and we took home the leftovers as well as an order of their Golden Lava Bun.
Jay
Made a booking on Sunday, holy cow it was busy... The Decor of this restaurant makes me feel cozy as the restaurant design is quite unique in its modern way.. (well for an Asian restaurant) . The complementary peanuts and tea and the relaxation of piano music is a bonus while waiting for our food. Even though we waited for 30 minutes+ for the food to arrive, it almost felt like a rest time for me after a long hour of work in those comfortable bamboo chairs?? We have ordered 6 dishes for the 5 of us to share, my highlight dish would be the Deep fried prawn balls. It wasn't over salty like the other restaurants and it was just right for my own taste buds. I forgot the names of the other dishes but it was well seasoned and not over flavored, very calm and mild, its just RIGHT. I will have to come back next time to try out other plates on the menu. I am actually shocked at the abundant dishes on their menu for a small sized restaurant. Their head chef must be "Ken Hom".

We were invited to New Garden for an early dinner. No wonder it has to be early, as the dining area is fairly small & customers without booking were turned away. We started with spring rolls - 3 in 1 order, so we ordered an additional piece, but it turned out to look different from the others (see photo); 2 small pieces of lettuce were there, but obviously not intended for wrapping! We also had rare beef rice noodle soup & special beef rice noodle soup, grilled pork chops with lemon grass on rice & fried rice with ham & shrimp paste. Soup was bland. Everything looked better than taste. (I surely miss the closed Saigon Restaurant on K Road.) I might return for its Chinese dishes. (Food - 2.5/5; Service - 2.5/5; Ambience - 2/5)
P.S. Thanks to our fellow foodie Heartshrooms who recommended "Try It Out" or "Vietnam Gourmet" for good Vietnamese food. These will be my next go.

Went here for lunch the other day. First time to dine here. The restau is a bit small - the interior is not too bad. Lunch time is super busy the restau is full when we arrived. Lucky one group has just finished so got the empty chair for us. We have ordered beef noodle soup, crispy chicken and tomato rice as well as spring rolls.

We waited for at least 20mins for our food to arrived. I was quiet impressed how the food was presented and how big the servings was! its H-U-G-E! very very good value for money.

The soup is yummy. Its fresh. with a hint of chili, hnmm..yum! perfect balance of flavour. very good for the cold weather.

The crispy chicken and tomato rice - I enjoyed this dish, the chicken skin is crispy, the meat is juicy and tender. The dish comes with soup and peanut which I reckon is a great bonus!

The spring rolls is alright. nothing too exciting about it.

The downfall with the whole experience is the moment you felt awkward to eat as the chairs are too close to each other? - just saying.

However due to value, portion and the "yumminess" of the food. We would definitely coming back soon.
Kelly
Yum! This place gets fairly busy during lunch, last few times I've tried eating here they've ran out of seating. But on this occasion they had plenty of seating.

We ordered a pork chop on rice and Cambodian noodles with fried egg buns with condensed milk.

YUUUUUMMMM! Pork chops were nicely seasoned not too overpowering and complemented well with fish sauce and rice! Amazing price too!!!
The Cambodian noodles was really delicious, lovely broth and generous serving of noodles and toppings.
Really enjoyed my fried buns too, very impressed and will be back to sample more of the menu!

Clean restaurant and staff are okay, one waitress was slightly on the rude side mishearing my order spoken in their language. . But food makes up for it!
Yay for more good restaurants opening up closer to home! Hehe

I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened and I just absolutely love their food. I come here practically every week because their food is just so amazing and affordable!.
I have tried many of their dishes. I could make a list but that would take up too much time.
The atmosphere of this restaurant is peaceful and simple and thats what I like about this place. The customers service is good and also the service time takes a little while depending on how busy the restaurant it, but the wait it definitely worth it as you are given hot green tea and peanuts to munch on while you wait.
Overall I love coming to this place and I will continue coming here for their delicious scrumptious food 😃

We're currently having a lazy Saturday and have decided to get takeaways from New Garden.

Today, we ordered the Seafood Yi Mien, Grilled Chicken with Tomato Rice and Peppered Beef Steak with Tomato.

All I can say is that, they never failed to satisfy our tastebuds.

The peppered steak was soft and tasty.

The grilled chicken is grilled to perfection, tasty especially with the vietnamese vinegar sauce.

Oh and we ordered the noodle for my 3 year old son who just love noodles.
Vincent Luy
Nice food here I love this place I always come here for dinner it also reasonable price... It really good place to come for family dinner or meeting with friends...

very very clean. friendly stuff. excellent food.
one of the best with Vietnamese rice noodle! the noodles have more chewy? texture? it does not snap off like the other restaurants.
all meals are very tasty. only down side for me was could not find any salad menu? or like vermicelli menu.
Michelle
Went there for the first time yesterday with 8 friends and tried the popular dishes. I recommend Lemongrass stir-fried chicken, Honey Chicken, Steam prawns, and spicy salted prawn and squid.
I wasn't expecting the big quantity for its price and the food was great. However, they seem to be very busy so expect a 20min wait.
It was worth our penny because its hard to find any good restaurants close to where we are staying.....
Overall: Decor 5/5, Ambience: 5/5, Service: 4.5/5. Food: 5/5 Would come back again.
Bobby
Honestly service 5 out 10 ordered chicken stair fry to be close CH12 dish and asked to have it hot but no !!! Again ordered the same thing and take away! Was half the take away container lol , and when I called the lady ms M Y said please bring it back??????? Helllloooo from Whitford! Not my suggestion to anyone
Marcella
Disappointing. Came here with the expectations with good tasty food but unfortunately we didn't get it. The lady who served us was rude. Asked for lychee shake- ran out. Asked for sago- ran out. Really??!?

We decided to get the grilled chicken on rice, wonton soup, lemon ice tea and
Stir fried Yi mien. The Yi mien were tasteless. Wontons lacked flavour. The only highlight was the grilled chicken which had a nice lemon grass flavour and nicely cooked. I would come back just for the chicken. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. But maybe we just ordered the wrong things.

Have been regularly patronising this restaurant since its very close to our home. Food was very affordable and came in generous portions. They have a wide variety of menus which comprises of vietnamese and chinese foods. Make sure you book on a weekend as they are pretty busy.

Terrible service. We went there for dinner on a Wednesday night. The place was busy but there was only one waitress. After ordering we waited for our food and it never came for 45 minutes. We realise something must have went wrong, seeing another table who ordered well after us started getting their food. We asked the waitress about our order and it appears that she forgot to write and put our order through after taking our order. Unacceptable service considering she would have seen us just sitting there with an empty table for 45 minutes. Also, she did not check on us at any point while we waited.
CK
Good food, good service, good atmosphere and good varieties. Just good.
The place was packed, waited for 15min but worth the wait. We ordered 3 dishes with rice for young family of four, the serving is good size too (yet we had to take away some).
Haven't tried the single dishes yet, from the look that serve next table it looks great. So will definitely come back...
RM
Really enjoyed our meal here. Fresh and tasty. Service good. We had sizzling beef and a lamb dish. BYo an advantage. Other tables seemed to get getting dishes I would order next time!

Poor service, walked into the restaurant and asked if they do take away. All I got was a yes and then completely ignored and while the next customer was served. Took our own menus and found a table, ordered our meals then waited 45 minutes for two main meal takeaways. Poor customer service, not friendly at all and very rude to people of colour from my perspective.

Great food at great prices. Lovely staff and a huge selection of food and beverage options. Portions are generous, we ordered 2 dishes and an entree of fried squid and barely made a dent in the second dish! Great value and very tasty.

We went to this place once during the Christmas-New Year holidays and were pleasantly surprised to find it has a very interesting menu which included regular Vietnamese noodles and grilled pork chop on rice to exotic dishes like braised sea cucumber with fish maw and paua. We had raw beef noodles (very big portion) and grilled pork chop on rice. The former was a good deal at around $10 and quality is comparable to Hansan's. The pork chop was on the dry side. We wanted to go back to try other dishes but it is like always packed when we drive past it around dinner time. But we'll keep trying as it looks like a very promising place.

I have been here multiple times during the last few months and I was very pleased with the presentation and atmosphere within the restaurant. The waiter was very nice and helpful. The menu selection has a variety from Chinese to Vietnamese dishes. He also recommended some of the more popular dishes to me when I asked. I ordered the roasted chicken and lemon grass and it was quite spectacular, definitely worth the money you are paying. Overall a quite exceptional place to eat for lunch or dinner, will be coming back again.

Have always been a fan of Vietnamese cuisine so i decided to try this place with a few friends.

Their customer service was great and was fast to take our orders which is a plus. The food was delicious and was relatively cheap considering the large portions they give and not to mention the complimentary peanuts and tea given to customers.

I definitely will stop by this place again.

Tried this place for lunch the other day found it while browsing through the zomato site looking for somewhere different to have for lunch..although it was a little bit out of our way,the menu they had on offer had us interested with a mix of Asian dishes ,Vietnamese,Malaysia,Chinese.. we mainly went with the Vietnamese dishes today crab claws, spring rolls, beef briskets pho,all three dishes where of fairly standard taste, they have a very extensive menu here so we will be back 2 try other dishes on offer here,First impression good today,service,decor..will try again....

New Garden is a little family run viet/Chinese restaurant hidden amongst the row of shops on the busy Chapel Road.

The menu is extensive. They have the usual viet entrees, a range of pho, rice dishes, then Chinese sharing style dishes too. We decided to grab two mains to share and decided on the salted fish, chicken and eggplant dish and the prawn and vegetable on glass vermicelli - both clay pot dishes.

They both tasted absolutely fantastic and portions well exceeded my expectations given they were priced ~$16. I thought the eggplant dish was a little too oily, seeing I've had that dish over and over again at other restaurants, this by far being most oily.

Service was outstanding. Answered all questions and even recommended quite a few dishes too. Roasted peanuts were served at the start and tea was constantly topped up. I'll definitely be back :-)
