Review The Bite - Auckland

Got the charcoal and the hot and spicy, both were delicious! To charcoal the chicken they put the chicken on an open flame so maybe they would charcoal a hot and spicy so you could have best of both worlds, may ask next time. My charcoal chicken was a little under salted and I couldn't really taste the special honey sauce, but the charcoal was really good.

This place is seriously good. Really nice people as well!

Food was overpriced as well as average!
Can find much better elsewhere.
Then onto the seating which was fairly basic which wouldn’t be an issue if they had cleared and wiped down the tables something which hadn’t and didn’t happen while we were there.

I miss food from my hometown so decided to come here for lunch. However it was a major let down. The braised pork belly is sooo fat and does not taste authentic. See attached photo. I think they forgot to add soy sauce when they cooked it as the colour is totally different from the photos I saw on zomato. I told the waitress about it and she apologised but I still feel like I've wasted money for paying $10.5 for this. Very disappointed and it now makes me miss my hometown food even more. Last time when I came the charcoal fried chicken was good though. This time it is just totally unacceptable.

焢肉完完全全沒入味還這麼肥令人百思不得其解的一餐

I have only been here twice (it's shame that I only discovered this place last week).

Baised pork mince rice and charcoal grilled XL chicken tasted pretty authentic. Portions were decent for the price.

Braised pork mince rice:4/5
charcoal grilled chicken: 4.5/5

Black sugar pearl milk tea: 3/5
It's a little pricey for a medium sized drink. The sugar wasn't as aromatic as one would expect.

Overall, I would recommend this place if you are looking for some authentic Taiwanese street foods!

They have the best hang over mock tail drink!
The Sunday purple. It’s a little citric, sweet, delicious and super satisfying. Quenches your thirst like nothing else! Hung over? No mo!
The downside: it always takes 5-10mins to prepare the drink. I nearly died being hung over while waiting. Absolutely worth the wait though.

Their food is okay. Could be better. Tried the Bao and it was quite good with some authentic Taiwan ingredients.
The charcoal toasted chicken on rice was unique but taste-wise was just okay.

Drinks 9/5
Food 3/5
Service 3/5

Another place worthy of mentioning, good value for money in Newmarket @ roughly 10-11$ for lunch .. got braised pork on rice and serving is generous, food quality above average, was quick...Its simple but quite tasty with lashing of chilly sauce (bought chilli sauce at grocery store its attached to, which also wasn't too bad btw Japanese stuff it stocks is cheaper then japanmart and general asian stuff is mostly cheaper then tofu shop and old t mark)...place is targeted more at quick lunch crowd not so suited if you want a place to dine comfortably or have large groups etc. Will be back to try more of menu.

Came here during lunch time and ordered the Charcoal Chicken Gua Bao and the Braised Pork Mince on Rice! The Gua Bao consisted of sliced cucumbers, lettuce and two massive pieces of the charcoal chicken! The chicken was juicy, had sesame seeds and a taste of honey! The Braised Pork Mince on Rice was really delicious! The rice was cooked nicely, had sliced veges, pork mince and a boiled egg! Recommend this small snack bar place if you're craving Taiwanese street food!

New to Newmarket village, this place also double up with a asian grocer shop as well. Had the charcoal chook on rice and not bad for 12 half bucks and quite a generous serving too even included a preserved soy sauce egg too would u believe. The chook skin was abit fried harden to da bite for me.🐔

Forgiven poorly English, I change up from usual soshi lunch today in mi Newmarket job, which is working well…I think to cry. My friend Santhosh regards this place “The Bite” because he likes the KFC chiken and because he has still little abnormal ear. Hard to find café like fishtank window in shop but For my lunch choices I had the special chicken bites with kuwara fries and purple black soda drink and carpis (carpiss not sound very nice but it was nice but sugar). It was $18.50 which is more than I pay for Soshi anywhere. This is not Soshi that, chicken was Bite pieces shape but very very very salty, than anything….and crunchy peice chiken not white chiken the kuwara fries had a salty and sweet covering but was bitter salty which was not needing. I had no sauces offering with so it was all dry like sand. I think I stick to Soshi which is better. I have to say again salty….because it was very much salty. Drink was low sugar choices but was now also too sweet…

Carras 3 ideas for changes

1. Less salty for everything not more than KFC chiken

2. Using good chicken for bites not bony jointy piece

3. Some sauces choice

4. Music better choices
, too sad songs

The BIte could be nice but with some change I think go back to Soshi…this better for you. I don’t feel well this time. I might fist Santhosh…haha joke, he’s still friend.

The eatery is situated within an Asian grocery store but it's right up the front so you won't miss it.

Seating are bar tables and stools. Food and drinks are served in takeaway boxes/cups regardless of whether you are eating in or taking away.

Now onto the food! I had the traditional gua bao and it was absolutely delicious. The bun was soft and meat was so tender it melted in your mouth. I would have ordered 2 of these except at $9 each, it's a bit pricey.

On my second trip I ordered the braised pork mince on rice with milk tea combo. This is good value at $13. The meat was very tender and juicy with the right amount of rice and they had an egg and seaweed salad to go with the meal. The milk tea is just nice, not too sweet and pearls were soft.

I don't have a picture of the gua bao because I'd devoured it before remembering to take a picture. You'll just have to try it for yourself.

The bite is basically a little snack bar set up at a corner of a rather large Asian grocery store. The ambience is lacking, being a snack bar. I ordered a original fried chicken chop on rice, dined in. Despite my dine in option the food served in a small paper box. The chicken was nice and crispy but just slightly under seasoned for my taste especially when the steamed rice came with very minimal gravy. The whole dish just tasted a bit bland. A bit more salt in the chicken would have been perfect. On the whole I am quite happy with the meal. The only other criticisms are the lack of chili sauce on the dining table. It would be nice if customers can add some spicy seasoning as required. And for people dining in perhaps a plate or a bigger paper box would have made cutting up the chicken chop easier. The box I was given was really quite tiny.
