Review Tang Du Style Restaurant - Auckland

Oksana Zhang
Came here before they closed for their mid-day break on a rainy Sunday for a late lunch. We got their Tang Du Style Smoked Chicken, Vinegar Six Mix Combination Salad, Oyster Sauce Beef Slices, Sweet and Sour Pork and Cumin Lamb with Buns. Their Tang Du Style Smoked Chicken is a signature winner that people specially pay a visit for; there’s a subtle Cumin-infused smokiness that comes through without being overpowering. The chicken is moist and has been marinated and soaked in salt so the flavour has really been absorbed by the meat. This makes the perfect dish to wash down with some beer or Chinese vodka (Er Guo Tou) between a few mates (or not). The Vinegar Mix Combination Salad was perfectly balanced between sweet and sour, comprising tomatoes, cucumbers, shittake/wood ear, carrots, peanuts, and onions. Refreshingly tasty, and generously portioned for an entree! Oyster Sauce Beef was extremely tender and succulent! The seasoning was just right; not too salty but enough to make a statement. It wasn’t greasy and presentation was well-done for a casual Chinese restaurant. The bed of broccoli at the bottom was cooked to perfection too! Sweet and Sour Pork was absolutely divine! Fresh out of the pan, the coating is golden and crispy but definitely not greasy. The coating is made from sticky rice, giving it a new texture and chew. The sauce was perfectly sweet and sour but didn’t drown the crispness of the pork out. Unlike other restaurants, the sauce definitely didn’t leave you feeling oily or thirsty. Cumin Lamb with Buns was good! Although their Buns were not house-made, the explosive flavours from the lamb and onions made up for this dish. The only downfall is the portion size is a bit smaller than other Chinese restaurants down Dominion Road. Overall, it was one of the better Chinese restaurants we’ve been to in a while. They don’t add MSG or overloaded with salt and we didn’t leave feeling thirsty or full from grease. The owner is a young man who loves to talk and is extremely friendly! Flavours hit all the right spots and come out fresh from their kitchen. Their menu is extensive with lots of variety and different Chinese cuisines to choose from. Their pricing is also fairly reasonable! I would recommend anyone nearby to pull over and give them a try! This meal set me back by $105 between 4 adults and 1 child; which we completely cleared the plates because it was that good! We left on full and happy stomachs. Food: 10/10 Price: 9/10 Ambience: 9/10 Service: 10/10

I regularly travel across town to have dinner here and it is always worth it. The food is delicious. My favourite dishes are the dumplings, guillan noodles, pickled vegetables and fern root noodles. But in saying that, everything I have tried has been delicious! The service is always friendly and accommodating. Ask for the spicy chillies from the kitchen if you are up for it.

Awesome new find! Delicious food, perfectly cooked hand pulled noodles and fab service! Truly my new go to place for dinner. I've been here three times and everything I've ordered has been really yummy not to mention the prices are cheap and definitely worth it. The boss is friendly and really makes effort to please (we were given a complimentary plate of fruit and the other time had also asked if we wanted the heater on). I've tried pretty much every restaurant on Dominion Rd, and this is definitely one of the best! Can't wait to go back to try more of the menu 😚 Edit// I've been back many times since this review and have tried a selection of other dishes. Here are some recommendations, not in any particular order: 1. Sour fern root noodle 2. Stirfried cauliflower with pork belly 3. Cold clear noodles in peanut sauce 4. Biang biang noodles 5. Duck blood hotpot with Seafood and Veges 6. All the eggplant dishes, esp their new eggplant dish! My sister really liked it and she normally doesn't even like eggplant. 7. Lamb with vegetables in hot and sour soup. 8. The fish dishes in general. And of course the smoked chicken! This place is also BYO I believe so 🥺 They are all highly recommended 😍

The food is so fresh and the quality is great! Has got to to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Auckland. My mum is a very fussy eater and she cant fault this place.

Been here with family and boyfriend on numerous occassions. Always a lovely experience for us, the owner is very nice, fast service, and delicious food. My favourites are the eggplant, pancake, biang biang noodles, double cooked pork slices, and pork intestines dishes. The amount given is worth the price, especially their lamb chops, which are my boyfriend’s favourite. They provide complimentary corn and carrot soup for dinner as well as a small fruit platter at the end of the meal. Would 100% recommend this place to friends and people who love eggplant and pork!

Excellent service (helpful and attentive which you don’t get much of these days) ! Delicious food! Very clean. Would go back again just for the hot peanut noodles ! Yum

Tang Du Style Restaurant has a pleasant feel to the place. I like the wooden dividing boards that create a but of privacy and blocks the wind from coming through the doors.

Nice dumplings and all but not quite 4/5 nice. Would give it a solid 3.5/5 if I could though. Just got takeaway dumplings this time. The food that other people ordered looked awesome so will come back here sometime for sure.

10 June 2018, been here takeway ,
I order 扬州炒饭yang chow fried rice,
Husband order 牛肉炒面beef fried noodle.
My husband said no good , exspecially the beef, my rice is fine, just I don't like the kind of vegetables in it.
The decor is good, some Guinness cap decor at wall.
The staff are friendly , he open door and close door for costumes when left.

Friendly service, good food, neat decor. The vegetarian options are not unexpectedly limited but are tasty and cheap! Will be returning frequently.

Had takeaway here several times. Wide range of food to choose, with good price and adequate serve. Friendly staff and fast service, nice dining environment.

Most of the dishes were too salty. Some misleading message shown on the menu. The diced chicken and cucumber in fresh chilli came with no cucumber at all. . Need to improve and focus on the details.

It was a pretty cold night when we came for dinner and we got seated next to the door because it was full. However the waitress was nice enough to keep shutting the door everytime customers left.

The restaurant is a bit small, but the food was above average. The pork and cabbage dumplings were surprisingly good - better than New Flavour. The fried noodles and fried rice were also pretty tasty as it wasn't too salty, just that it was udon noodles which wasn't expected. The portion sizes were reasonably large and the prices for each dish were cheap. The service was very good though. $25 for two is ideal.

Taste - 6.5/10
Quality - 6/10
Size - 7.5/10
Service - 9/10
Price - 9/10
