Review Taste In Memory - Auckland

Small restaurant, very busy. Waiter (owner?) Very accommodating, managed to squeeze us in without a booking and without making us feel to much of a hassle. Came for the xiao long bao. Had heard they are the best in Auckland and they did not disappoint. Only wish I ordered more. Dumpling very good. My only complaint was the pork in spicy pork noodles arrived cold but was precooked well and warmed in broth

It's always a great sign when I don't get a photo of the food until the end. This place is amazing, the food is perfect (try the soup dumplings) and the service is fast. They also do takeaway.

Well the Xiao long bao are good. Maybe the staff lady can smile more or be more approachable. Got a feeling have to come back and try out their noodles. They look really good on the table beside me.

Absolutely love this place. It's a small shanghainese joint that gets the basics right. Opens 0830-2000 daily except Wednesdays, it sells like a breakfast and lunch food, some noodles and their best xiao long bao!! Best in Auckland, and probably best of Australiasia.

I am from Suzhou and now live in Auckland. This place brings me a lot of memories of my childhood. Very authentic Suzhou taste.

This place is amazing and we go there multiple times a month. Traditional Shanghai style food which is fresh, very high quality and a great price. The best I've had in Auckland. My favourite is the pork meatballs in noodle soup. It is the most juicy and tasty pork I've ever had

Very reasonably priced authentic Chinese/Taiwanese food. Absolutely recommend.

The Xiao Long Bao is so tasty and worth the travel for. Very friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to go back here!

WE LOVE TASTE IN MEMORY. The food is just so amazing that we even drove all the way from North Shore to eat our sunday breakfast there and BROUGHT our friends with us xD. Our FAVORITE is the noodles with meatball which includes 2 very tasty big meatballs made with lean pork and delicious sauce. This is a must try if you haven't been to this restaurant yet. The other food are great too. We would recommend the Xiao Long Bao and Pot Stickers as well. Quality food with decent price. 10 OUT OF 10.

One of the best xiao long bao in Auckland.

This is the best rice Shumai of Auckland,I love it!

This is hands down, the most exceptionally crafted, delicious Chinese food I’ve ever eaten. The dried spiced tofu in broth with noodles and the shiao long bao are to die for. Their food is just as addictive and ‘crave for’ as Lucky Tacos! 💯

Delightful, tasty, and elegant in its simplicity. The dumplings were made with such skill that the skin doesn't end up a sad, tired mess when you bite into it. The piece de resistance has to be their Cherry Blossom Jelly dessert. I can't even describe it, except to say: Move over, Blumenthal.

nice place nice food for a traditional southeast Chinese lunch

Very nice dumplings and shiao long bao. both so juicy and succulent... not from Auckland so had to order more for the road..

Fantastic. Clean tasting food, quiet environment. The soup dumplings are probably one of the best in NZ.

Good, legit Shanghai style xiaolongbao. The kitchen staff are all from Shanghai. Limited menu otherwise. Decent wonton soup.

Best value of Chinese traditional food ever. Also, as a regular customer, I’d like to explain why the waiting time lets someone down occasionally. The reason is that the owner and her partner hand made as much as food by themselves other than just selling those frozen ready-made food to customers. And it takes longer time to make traditional Chinese food especially those tasty pastry, sometimes they prepare food until 2 AM. If u r in hurry, I’d suggest ask them the waiting time before ordering. If u r looking 4 good service and short time serving and superb tastes and cheap price at the same time, well~ nice try~

Yummy quality dumplings, I will definitely be back!

Heard about this place from a chef that likes it, sure enough really delicious!! Shiao long bao fantastic, spicy beef noodle great too with a good amount of spice heat. Had dumplings too, but found the skins a bit thick for my liking. Service was efficient and pleasant too.
Luke Tan
very tasty, small shop but feels like back to 1990 in Shanghai

Xiao long bao is a must try here.
Shanghainese style wonton soup was nice, liked the vegetable&pork filling one.
Noodles were okay, remember to ask them to be gentle on the chilli if you don't eat too spicy, I asked for mild on mine and it was🔥. Pan fried dumplings were nice crispy on the bottom but the dough was a little bit firm and chewy.

terrible service wait 50mins for 1 noodle, just a bowl of noodle, that's Quite slowly! first order but last come. No explain . I will never come again

Went again this weekend and we were so happy and full afterwards. we bring all our friends and family here and they all walk away in love with the place too! Service was friendly and can’t wait to go again soon

The lady with glasses was terrible!Bad service! Also please update your menu!Remove the dishes from your menu which you said you will not make them anymore!

Never returning, service was very rude and put us off the food before we even ordered, our friend went on the day before us and was not impressed by the dish xiao long bao which I am assuming is their most popular dish, very disappointed and my mother was quite sad as she was looking forward to the xiao long bao. Hope others won't make the same mistakes as us. And that waitress is full on racist. Please learn how to respect customers before you start working.

Steam buns are must try here. Always sold out if you are late. This time I found the Shao Mai with sticky rice was surprisingly good! Highly recommended! Very high quality food!

Definitely the best Xiao Long Bao in Auckland. Not quite Din Tai Fung but closest I have had in Nz. Very tasty, thin delicate skins and lots of soup. We also had wonton soup. Wontons little and soup very peppery but tasty. Had sichuan spicy beef noodles. Asked for "little" spicy but boy was it hot. Service is very abrupt (rude) but that's usual in these sort of places. Service is VERY slow but waitress apologised. Parking terrible. Best Xiao Long Bao in town but waiting time and service means I can't give this top marks.

I love the pig's head dumplings so much. Delicious!

Won ton soup is also good and delicious noodle soups.

As others have said, the xiao long bao are some of the best in Auckand. I still prefer their dumplings though.
Giraffe
A great place for dumplings in Mt Albert, the place is clean and decent! They even accommodated vegetarian dish for my mom when there is no option for vegetarian on the menu. Will definitely visit this place again.

Here for a work meal, order 1x serve of noodle, waited 30 mins ,nothing arrived. Asked the kitchen, turned out it went to the wrong table.... no apology from the restaurant. Anyway, didn't complain, cant be bothered, such a waste of time.

We always come to this place for lunch after basketball. It has the best Xiao long bao in Auckland. The pan fried dumplings and spicy beef mince noodles are also very delicious. Definitely would recommend others to try it if you like Xiao long bao. The only downside is that it takes sometime for the food to come out.

Cozy little place with very nice food, Shiao Long Bao is definitely the best I’ve tried in Auckland. Reasonable pricing and portion. Fresh, clean and tasty! Only concern is the customer service is kind of disappointing, hope more warm welcome feeling next time.
Rachel Hui
We loved the Xiao Long Bao and Fried dumplings. It is not the cheapest but their Xiao Long Bao is the best we have had in Auckland. The place is exceptionally clean but don’t expect any service.

We will definitely go back.
Yaya Chang
The food is tasty and delicate, but the waiting time is a little long for fresh made by order. Strongly recommended if you are not in hurry and can spend time enjoying the food.
Clare Ang
Great pan fried dumplings!!! came here for the soup dumplings (xiaolongbao) but the pan fried dumplings totally was the star of the day. So crispy at the bottom. Soup dumplings were good too, just as the soy milk and dough fritters.

Standard food with bad service. Lucky Zomato did not have negative star system.

The shitty face of the waitress turn my appetite down. Did not see any passion with the job at all. Ask the customer to take their own chopsticks and spoon so she can stand behind the counter swipe her phone? Most surprised me was she treat customers differently. Service regular customers with nicer attitude but treat the new with poker face. Come on . Show some professionality.

Also notice one thing...i don’t understand why they only switch on half of the lights. is that the way they save the earth.

Food: 3/5
Deco: 3/5
Service:0/5

Not a big deal actually but never going back.

Best shanghainese joint in Auckland. Gets basic right, not fancy. Sells breakfast type food but opens till 8pm so good if you want to grab a simple dinner. Simple tasty food.

Best xiao long bao in town. Their fried dumplings are great too, please try the one with pig head in it. Very reasonable pricings for what they offered.

I saw great review in the Metro magazine so I visited this restaurant with my family.
We ordered Xiao Long Bao and prawn wonton soup, both were very good I have to say.
However I don’t think we will come back again. I rate 1 out of 5 for their services. The lady who took our order had an obvious attitude problem, she was so rude and impatient. Also when we asked to use their toilet, they said they don’t have one and told us to use the public toilets across the road. I thought it is in the regulations that food business sites must provide toilet facilities for customers, to comply with the Building Act 2004. We didn’t want to argue about it and just quickly finished our meals and left.
Interestingly enough, I noticed that the attitude of the same waitress towards the ‘pakiha’ customers sitting in the next table was nice and friendly. How bazaar!! Does this restaurant provides good customer service for only a certain type of people? Anyway the overall dining experience there was so unpleasant.

Went around 11am on Sat - we were the only customers there. The lady and her son were doing homework when we arrived. There were a couple of items marked unavailable on the menu, they also had a couple more items on the board above the counter. We ordered xiao long bao, shrimp wonton soup, noodles with spiced beef, noodles in scallion noodles. The xiao long bao was the winner followed by the scallion noodles. The other two were pretty normal. It is self service cutlery and water. Service was fine - all that for about $35, I am definitely coming back!

Xiao Long Bao is very good. Fried dumpling and wontons are good- fresh pork ingredients used. Gui hua dessert is not on the menu - average for me. Clean small premises, friendly and fast , but parking is not easy, will be back to try other dishes.

The shiao long bao are delicious! Dumplings are yummy and we also had a soup each. I had the shredded pork with preserved vegetable and noodles and if was so good and really well priced. My daughter asked if she could order some rice and nearly got her head bitten off by the woman... Hahahaha... As they don't serve rice there. The woman that served us was very stern and very abrupt, which I thought was quite funny but I can see how others might not feel the same way.. Maybe she was having a bad day. But I will totally be back cause the food was awesome.

Ever since a friend brought to us some dumplings from this little restaurant we have been meaning to try it, as they were so delicious. So off we went the other day to try out what is a restaurant that serves Shanghainese local dishes. At last! How i miss the tastes of Shanghai , and well my other half should know this is a true Shanghainese experience as she is a Shanghainese girl. It is a small establishment on the main road through Mt Albert , which i would expect if busy would entail a wait . When we went it was early afternoon so no problem getting a table. The place is clean, which is always a bonus and what service we got was quick and pleasant enough. We ordered the ShiaoLongBao, Meat with Chicken Juice wrapped in Pressed Tofu, Sweetened Soy Bean Milk, Shrimp Wonton Soup and the dumpling with fresh pork. All the food was great and both particulary impressed with the ShiaoLongBao as it was pretty much of the same standard as what we had experienced in Shanghai itself. Plus the fact that these require a bit of skill to make. So top marks for them , and again for the rest of what we had. Anyway to finish off the price was okay too. Definetly be back again! Enjoy if you do go....you won't be disappointed.

Food was tasty and served fast but the service from the waitress was borderline aggressive. I would have given it an easy 4 stars but her attitude deterred from the meal. Good dumplings though.

Our new favorite in the neighborhood. Been bringing friends to visit this place. Food is amazing and can run out at times as it is a small family establishment. But this means food will always be fresh. Soup dumplings and fried dumplings are to die for!

Heard about Taste in Memory’s xia lung bao for a while. Always unlucky when we arrived quite late and xia lung bao finish for the day. Finally managed to get there very early (around 10.30am) and order their famous xia lung bao, youtiao (fried dough), stirfried millet cake, and wonton soup. Love most of our dishes. If only xia lung bao accompanied by ginger. Best youtiao, millet cake not like what I imagine so not a fans (my fault though). Dumpling soup has nice flavour too. All dishes well priced. Place can be quite small especially when gets too busy. Ensure to go here early to prevent dissapointment of missing out their xialungbao.
We will definetely be back! Nyum!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here especially the soup dumplings and shredded pork noodle soup which was very flavoursome and tastes like it is made with a lot of love, highly recommend this place

Excellent dumplings, friendly owners, nice decor. Small but welcoming. Child-friendly. Try the xiao long bao (Shanghai soup dumplings)! A welcome addition to the Mt Albert shops.

small and cool place, made me homesick. The owner says they will have more varieties as they are waiting for another member to join the team. Can't wait!

This place is new but amazing ! Yummy dumplings and buns and not to mention the noodles ❤. When we arrived at 5pm they had already sold out of three things from the menu. Can't wait to come back !

Came here for the Xiao long bao, was delicious! Just opened in Mt Albert and now our local favourite. The fried dumplings are also our faves!
