Review Fika With Me - Birkenhead

Ceicei Luk
Fika has just opened up for dinner on Friday evenings so we went to try. For the mains, we got the pan fried snapper and the aged rump. Both were delicious and the rump was so tender. Our favourite was the sticky pork belly though and we just loved the sauce! It was very flavourful, just perfect. I also have to mention that the sourdough for the entree is soft and not chewy which I really enjoyed. Great service and beautifully decorated. Every dish was reasonably priced. Fika with me is definitely a spot that’s worth visiting.

This place is great. The food quality is very good. We asked for eggs well done, most places still have them runny, the team here nailed it. The food was cooked very nicely and presentation was awesome. Great coffee too! The place is quite busy so i would encourage patience.

Food was delicious, very fresh, good portion sizes too. The price was reasonable because we booked through first table but would've been on the expensive side if we had paid pull price.

Boyfriend says he’s never having a normal eggs bene again because of how AMAZING the braised beef cheeks were. Hands down 10/10 all the way around, definitely coming back any chance we get!! Thank youu!!!!

Great dining experience with nice food and hospitality. Surely recommended!

Beautiful service with beautiful food kids said like a 5 star restaurant will come back

Great experience. Very friendly staff. I had chicken & waffles and it was so delicious. My partner had Beef Cheecky and it was so tender and full of flavour. We also tried the cauliflower on toast and it was a delicious surprise. Give it a try and you won't regret. We will go back for sure.

Highly recommended! Booked via FirstTable for dinner, the staff are so friendly, vibe is good, the food is well presented and really cooked. The portion is generous, happy to go back for brunch to support the local business:) love the details the staff put effort on

Only good things here! Ruki the amazing barista and FOH was very welcoming and professional. There are games and reading materials for kids, low calm music in the background. Coffee is excellent and food was so good! So many vegan choices that made my heart shine! Also they have wifi and are okay for us to seat and work from our computer for a bit ! Highly recommend, I'll be back, my Coffee cars already waits for me 🤗

Service was great, food was very nice, cooked well. Coffee was amazing!

Delicious Good “V” Bagel with crispy bacon. Yum! We did a phone order and pickup that was easy. Thanks Fika With Me.

Highly recommend this place. Yummy food with a unique twist.

Favourite place to go in Birkenhead! Delicious brunch and coffee and amazing cabinet food and sweets! I’ve had the crispy chicken tacos which was amazing, the Benedict and creamy mushrooms all which I can highly recommend! Also make sure to grab a cinnamon scroll if you are there for later!

I had their $20 streak special which was just a simple scotch with salad. Nothing special. I do like their friendliness but didn’t like they have Coke Zero but only fancy drinks like organic cola.

Coffee is absolutely amazing, red-headed barista lady makes best coffee on the north shore! Everyone is so nice and polite and the food is delicious!! Will definitely coming back soon I love Fika With Me !!

Ordered the big breakfast and a savoury scone. Really yummy! Coffee was great too, and such a nice, cozy ambience. Friendly staff as well. Will definitely be back.

Pretty poor service. Walked in - asked for a table. Waitress at counter gave us a cant be bothered look and said to take a seat and she’d bring menus. Of course she forgot so we walked out. Looked popular though.

Nice food, nice staff, and good coffee! Free WiFi yooooo. Lots of good competition now in Birkenhead but this is still a solid option for brunch.

I saw this place has high rating, all good review so I came and tried. But what I got is very bad service. I had to ask twice for them to clean my table, which is fine as they were very busy. I asked for water but they didn’t bring, ok I had my coffee. I WAIT FOR 45mins AND DIDN’T GET MY FOOD WHILE OTHER PPL HAD EVENTHOUGH THEY CAME AFTER ME. Never back to this place again

Forever I love with this place great food and great staff, live in Remuera now but will continue to make the travel over the bridge for this place 💕✨

went here for brunch the other day with my partner (he recommended it) and I was not disappointed! pleasant service and decent french toast! truly a little cosy cafe in the heart of Birkenhead!

On my recent visit to Auckland my cousin took me to this place for lunch. This is by far one of the best cafes I've been to in a long time. The food was amazing and the service was very good. The service staff were very friendly and extremely polite. Prices are reasonable. Definitely worth the visit.

Coffee was good. I had the chicken bagel which was delicious except for the strange addition of hummus which detracted from the dish. My partner had the salmon salad which was ultimately just green salad leaves with some salmon and a little disappointing. Best option in the area though and service is efficient.

This place is grimy and tired. I had heard good things and their instagram look promising but my sister and I came here to find uncleared tables (even though we were the only ones in the cafe) and we stood at the counter being ignored for a good five minutes. We ended up helping ourselves to the menus. The iced coffee I ordered was good but not enough to redeem the lack of ambience for this cafe.

Came here for brunch on a Monday, so the place wasn't very busy and service was fast. The food was good, I ordered the hot chicken bagel and the hot sauce came on the side so you can chose your desired heat level.

Loved the atmosphere and the coffee from Fika with Me. Was a little disappointed that we got more Kumara shavings then chicken and greens in the chicken salad, but it was still delicious. The hot chicken bagel was also amazing. We’d definitely return again.

Good Little Cafe-Fast and Clean

Popped in here on a Friday morning and was quiet(normal for Birkenhead) staff were attentive and service was fast.

Good coffee-Supreme

Breakfast was good-I had the full breakfast and was cooked well with good quality ingredients used.

Overall nice people and clean cafe with friendly staff.

The interior could use a little freshen up, but still very clean and orderly.

Menu could be a bit more expansive but good range never the less.

4/5 ain’t bad
Lisa Kent
Awesome food, space is a little cramped but always busy so a plus but minus in one. Service with coffee was really slow. But will still go back for sure :)

Good food, good vibes, and an amazing Date & Almond smoothie! 😋
Centrally located so easy to find and lots of shopping in the area. Definitely going back.

This place was amazing. Went on Sunday morning for brunch and was not disappointed. The meals were affordable and the wait time wasn’t too long (even though we went during peak times)
We ordered the ‘salmon king’ (bagel) and ‘all the best’.
Firstly, Oml to the all the best. Although a typical breakfast is found at almost every cafe, quite often they’re overly greasy and bland. But each element of this dish was amazing. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked (hard white and runny yolk) while the hash was crispy on the outside and soft inside. The veges were well seasoned and had a smoky taste.
For the salmon king, a generous portion of smoked salmon was given (can’t see in the photo, but there’s another few layers in between the bagels) with cream cheese, capers and avo on the side. The cream cheese was flavoured with chives. The balsamic sauce around the plate along with the capers cut through the richness of the dish. Only downside was the bagel where it could’ve been toasted just a little longer.
Staff were attentive and cheerful 😊

Overall, a really nice experience and will definitely be back again. (Decided as my partner and my go to brunch spot!)

My family and I came here for Sunday brunch. We were looking forward to a nice meal. After ordering our food, unfortunately there was a bit of a wait as it was quite busy. Despite this, the service was good and the waiters were attentive. When the food did arrive, there was nothing that really stood out. Despite this, the food was tasty and was good value for money. Would happily come back as it is clear this is a favourite with locals. 3.5/5

If I could dine at Fika With Me for brunch everyday, I would. Can not fault the amazing food and great staff who are so wonderful. Love the atmosphere aswell, has been a calm dining experience every time 👌 Cant wait to come back very soon!!

We had a quick lunch on Birkenhead Avenue, but unfortunately, a lot of eateries chose not to open on Mondays. Glancing through Zomato, "Fika With Me" looked good with a 4.2 rating.

My wife had a Bulgogi salad with marinated beef & fried egg, while I had a beef burger on a brioche bun & kumara chips. Bulgogi was Korean in taste - as I was told. My brioche bun was nice & soft; meat was OK; there was a strip of Bacon as well; Kumara chips were very thin & crispy, but a bit oily at the bottom of the container. Coffees were hot & nice. And it was a good lunch.
(Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience 3/5)
Visited on 12 Feb 2018

Favourite pre-vegan dish. Amazing food. Taste is always on point and beautiful healthy options. Their black sticky rice is always my go to! Mmmmhhhh yum! 💜

Very friendly staff and extremely nice! I ordered a dirty chai and got a chai without the espresso added, I told them and they were happy to replace it with a right one. Without complaints and very apologetic. Definitely will come back again. 谢谢

We went today with my dad and Baby puddingcake.
Seating inside and out, we managed to snaffle a large table, sort of sharing with another customer who my dad and Baby promptly made friends with.
The staff are SO NICE. Water with cucumber and lemon on the table, coffees (we had flat white, hot chocolate and Americano) were pleasant.
We ordered the big breakfast, eggs bene and my old faithful scrambled eggs on toast.
Generous servings and v reasonably priced. Food was lovely and pretty standard. The coconut French toast does look amazing though, maybe next time.

Great little cafe! Went there for the brunch special - great price & even better food and coffee. Must try their hot chicken bene & bagels, & corn bread!

Our favourite cafe on the shore. Service is always quick, friendly and efficient and the food is always outstanding. I usually go for the dishes with salmon and always the black sticky rice, whereas my partner always tries something new on the menu. The black sticky rice is beautiful and delicious every time with the medley of fruits on top and on the side of the plate. My favourite is the soba salmon salad and love the brioche they use. Will definitely be going back again and again. Thanks Fika for never disappointing!

One of my favourite cafe on the shore. It's always my first choice when I get a chance to Birkenhead. Great coffee, great food, friendly staffs with very passionate attitude make the little cute coffee shop cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend.

Visiting from Wellington with a bunch a friends and found this place. Beautiful food, lovely staff and great atmosphere. Was super busy but I can see why 😁 thank you for the lovely meal and amazing coffee!!

Our go-to for the beat breakfast on the shore. Amazing food, good coffee and great service. Highly recommend to anyone and we go there as often as we can for breakfast or lunch

Nicely decorated and friendly services helps to make up for an uninspiring menu. I will literally eat anything but struggled to find something of interest to eat at Fika - I ended up with a cabinet muffin which was fine. Lots of potential here but I reckon there needs to be a lot more creativity in the kitchen. Coffee was good.

Great food, great service. The hot chicken bagel was pretty epic. The Vegetarian bagel was good as well. The setting in the cafe was nice and staff was attentive and friendly. Would definitely visit again.

This is my favourite café in the area, and has been ever since I discovered it. I keep trying the others around (and there are some very good places), but I keep coming back here time and time again.

Coffee: The coffee is delicious - I order the long black and my better half prefers her coffee milky, so she always gets a latté. The cremé is good on the coffee, extractions are good taking into account humidity, etc.

Food: There is a wonder-woman in the kitchen, and her meals are delicious. There is a good mix of old favourites, new trends, and unique offerings on the menu. Poached eggs come out perfectly soft-poached every time.

Service: Service in the area is uniformly good - Fika's team take it to the next level. The team are friendly, welcoming, and appropriately attentive. It's a genuine pleasure to walk into the room and instantly feel like you're in the right place, and the team deserve the credit for making that atmosphere.

Eggs Benedict was absolutely divine! It comes with everything you need - a bagel and hash brown with the eggs on top. The flavors all came together really nicely. The latte was really nice without being too bitter. My friend also had the burger which had a really nice juicy patty. Would definitely recommend for a nice brunch, and the $15 deal is such a steal!

Cute and cozy cafe with great service. It was Sunday lunch time and was lucky that we had the last available table. Couple of tables has been reserved so could be good idea to book a table during busy hour. Friendly waitress had smile on her face all the time :) Food was delicious with nice presentation. Was great experience.

This is our favourite place for brunch- we keep trying other places but none match Fika. Food, coffee and service are great. Good selection of small bites like cakes, scones etc if that's all your after. The hardest bit of eating here is deciding what to have that day!

Really nice food I ordered a bagel with halloumi, pesto, tomato, spinach and I also got a potato roastie on the side! As you can see I also got a smoothie! Service was great and the environment of the cafe is very cosy and decorated very nicely. 🥀

Tried out this cafe recently & really enjoyed our meals. Service was attentive, friendly & warm, atmosphere was good & my soy chai latte was delicious with a silky smooth microfoam. The husband thought his "big breakfast" (can't recall the name on the menu) was delicious & I really enjoyed my corn bread dish - nice texture, great taste, the smoked salmon wasn't too salty & went well with the smashed avocado & crumbled feta. I'm personally not a huge fan of poached eggs in general, so wasn't sure the runny yoke worked with the corn bread...but that's probably just me! Overall loved our experience & would definitely go back to try something else on their menu (quite a few tasty sounding options!).

Such a cute cafe in Birkenhead! Staff were lovely and the food was delicious. I got the breakfast special, $15 for a hot drink and a meal before 11am. Fika Bene was very tasty with nice sauce and the hot chocolate was perfect. Overall 5/5 will come back again!

Greeted by friendly staff, we ordered two eggs benedicts, one with mushrooms and one with bacon. The meals came out consisting of a toasted bagel base, a homemade potato rosti, two eggs, and our chosen accompaniments. I loved the texture of the bagel against the light, crispy rosti. The eggs were cooked just right with a generous amount of hollandaise. The bacon was well flavoured but I felt there could have been less of it to create a more balanced ratio. However, the meals were a tad on the cold side which was somewhat disappointing. All in all, it really surpassed my eggspectations.

Nice enough place. Quaint. Had the Chai latte. Still don't get the meaning of the name fika with me. It's located among all these wee little shops at Birkenhead and it's just so beautiful up there.

These guys are great, great coffee, really good food. Absolutely great value for money! The big breakfast, chili scrambled eggs, chicken soba noodles and black sticky rice are highly recommended. Staff are friendly and service is really good.

One of the best Supreme coffee I have had. They also do Best Ugly Bagels - recommend the Good "V" Agel. Will be trying the fried poached egg next time!

Great service here, great coffee, and the meal was so delicious. This is a hidden gem in Birkenhead. Wish it had more outdoor seating so more people could enjoy this place!!
Stephy_NakiGirl
This cafe has a great reputation & it appears the rumours are true. Nice spot near the roundabout on Birkenhead Ave. Cafe was light & bright with inside & outside seating. Service was really friendly, & efficient.
Coffee was super strong, but was not bitter so was enjoyable. Decided to try one of their signature dishes - fried poached eggs, and it was really fresh & tasty. Looking forward to returning & trying more of their menu.

Absolutely amazing food!! This is my favorite café for both breakfast and lunch. The food is beautifully presented, full of flavour and very fair prized. It is also great that there is free WiFi. Great place to go on your break!
Sophie
Best cafe ever! Great noms, and lovely staff. I would come here for every meal if they were open all day. Their hot chicken bagel is one of the nicest meals I've ever had. The only downside of this place is that it gets too busy.

Decided to try a local cafe for brunch. Read reviews before coming here, and thought to try fika with me anyway. Ordered eggs bene w/ bacon for myself, and ALL THE BEST(BIG BREAKFAST) for my partner with coffee. flat white arrived after 15mins (1/2 coffee and 1/2 froth) – lukewarm at best. Food arrived after another 25mins: eggs bene had a bit egg shell, yolk was hard. Partner was not impressed with big breakfast – quite dry and lukewarm. presentation was nice but tasted blend. no one has come to our table and check how our meal was .
overall, nice decor and location, maybe come back again to try other things on their menu??

The proprietors of this cafe know nothing about customer service. I took friends here for brunch (which was nothing special, unfortunately) and was embarrassed I did so. Largely because as soon as we had finished our meal, we were asked to leave so as to free our table up for someone else. I have never encountered such rude behaviour at an establishment before now. Poor form. We shan't be back.

Really impressed with this place. We went there for lunch; I had the Fried Poached Eggs and my mum had the Chicken Salad, both were really good.
The Fried Poached Eggs were a novelty, the idea of deep-frying a poached egg didn't initially appeal - but it does now! The sautéed beans & mushrooms...

To fika in Swedish Is to have a small food break. Swedes often fika with coffee and a bite. I came here thinking it may have a few swedish goodies on the menu but sadly, not to be.
Was pretty crowded when I brought the teens. They were pretty easy to please 'suprise me' they chanted . Ordered the iced chocolate which came in Mason glass. Looked pretty and advised was very nice. I just had a mocha which I felt was quite weak. Very milky and weak..we chose a few pastries. Overall I felt it was quite expensive for 3 drinks and 2 pastries. $27 all up. Was okay but not outstanding.

Absolutely faultless!

You walk in it has a warm rustic feeling, you are greeted with a smile and amazing customer service. I ordered a hot chocolate and the corn bread with smoked salmon and avocado and chutneys itch 2 poached eggs ABSOLUTELY beautiful.

On my saved list of awesome Cafes to re-visit 😍

Great little place to go for breakfast and again the Asian cafe owners are great at providing, service, flavour and attention to detail and cost effective pricing.

Will defiantly come here again place was buy with a much younger clientele.

Popped in to Fika With Me for a bite to eat for lunch had great service and food came out fast! I had the Hot Chicken bagel which was amazing, I would love to know how they do the fried chicken it was just perfect and not at all greasy or oily, served with the mango, aioli, hummus and a side of chilli sauce completed the dish (chilli sauce was a little on the hot side but was okay because it was separated). I had this along with an iced chocolate which was the best I've had in a while...

I had a solo lunch here and had the creamy mushroom dish - oh my effing God. Beautiful interior. Free wifi. Amazing food - I'm sure the butter content of the dish was partly why it was so amazing but the calories were worth it. Dine alone or with a friend, either way. Get there.
Tones Thorburn
Absolutely love this place. Can't speak highly enough of the place and the owner/operators. Great menu delivered to the highest standard. Cute little place and the staff are just so friendly and attentive. The best creamy mushrooms in Auckland without a doubt! It's hard to make a choice from the menu because you know whatever amazing dish you choose, you're also missing out on many more options. I suggest you go and work your way through the menu; you won't be disappointed. We're just so lucky that this is our local. Thank you Fika; we love you.

Love coming here for breakfast! The atmosphere is beautiful. A perfect little gem of a cafe. The staff are always super happy and lovely and helpful. I always leave smiling. The food is well priced and of generous sizes and always delicious. I love getting the vegetarian bagel with some avocado added. My partner absolutely loves the creamy mushrooms and wants to know the recipe! He gets its every time. The French toast is great if wanting something on the sweeter side 😜
Macky
Probably the best breakfast that I have ever had out. This is such a cool little cafe. The atmosphere and the food is perfect. I had a smoothie and the hot chicken bagel. When we went it was hectically busy though, we only just got a table. But that would be the only downside.
Lewola16
Nice and funky little cafe, attentive staff (owners I think), food was very good, also had a mojito smoothie which was nice.
Given a 3.5 because we went in on a weekend a while ago and got ignored, but from our recent experience we will go back, and would recommend.
Naomi
One of our favourite cafes in Auckland! Really friendly staff, so relaxing to visit with our 2 year old as they are so welcoming. Also love the food (the coconut french toast is a must try!), and the breakfast croissant, great value for money and really nice decor / set up as well - and serves Supreme coffee! A must visit if you're in Birkenhead!
Charlie Mcfarland
I had the crumbed poached eggs. Something I've never seen before, was cooked really well and tasted good, there was nori on my plate too which confused me slightly as it was a bit of mixed cuisines but tasted fine. The staff were friendly, the cafe was busy. I sent an email enquiring about veggie options and they got back a month later after I had eaten there but no biggie
Kelsy Fletcher
This is a fantastic spot for brunch. I ordered the eggs on toast (poached, with ciabatta) and they came out with delicious chutney. The eggs were beautifully done. They were also brilliant value for money - only $10.
My partner got Fika Bene with bacon and this was also delicious. Everything is beautifully presented.
If you come here, you must try the homemade hash which is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside and honestly the most perfect hash I've ever had.
The chai latte is spicy and full bodied.
The atmosphere is lovely, the furniture and decor are very kitsch and hipster and yes, Swedish. The staff are super friendly and attentive.
We will DEFINITELY be coming back regularly. My only wish is for a few more menu options e.g. pancakes. This is a fantastic spot!
Fiona
Great food , coffee and service will definitely go back , i had chicken salad and coffee for lunch , I enjoyed the food , nice atmosphere
Lisa
Absolute local favourite of mine and my partners! This little cafe is always busy, i have been going here since the first week they opened and they just get better and better.
The service is always friendly and fast.
The Chilli eggs with the smashed avocado are one of my top picks. There version of the eggs bene is another fav. The Coffee is lovely in a good sized cup.
Presentation and service on point! Food is fast and the owners appear to love what they do!
Big Cheese
Great cafe, we are regular here .wicked coffee and fresh juices and smoothys, trendy clientele, Lorde is often here for lunch and all ingredients on the menu are fresh organic ingredients. The chinese owners are absolutely lovely people and for a cafe that has not been open that long it is already very well established in Birkenhead with a great name in equal parts to brilliant management and brilliant food! I have been to other cafes in the area and for my mind this one is number 1 without a doubt despite its short life it seems to have a extremely loyal and famous fan base . When I am wanting a breakfast or brunch on the shore it has to be fika with me without a doubt! Have never been let down and it all comes with a very fair and reasonable price tag, 35 to 40 for 2 people, you can't go wrong with fika
Cindy Ong
The Chinese owners are very friendly. They have children menu like mini pancakes, obviously the pancake is bite size for children small mouths. The French toast and the ugly bagel are good. It is quite full during weekend morning. Not many tables in the cafe sometimes you need to share a long table with some other guests.

I am delighted that this cute Cafe has popped up near my house. The clean, minimal decor is super inviting and the staff is very friendly.

Our drinks (mocha and Chai latte) arrived quickly and were well made. I was very impressed with my lightly spiced latte.

Their soft opening menu had some great choices and it took us a while to decide. I settled on the scrambled eggs with Chili while hubby ordered the big breakfast. The eggs were poached perfectly. I expected my scrambled eggs to have more heat but nevertheless, they were light and tasty. The pork sausages were full of flavour and not too heavy.

This place just opened over the summer. Went here for the first time for lunch on Saturday. Orders the corn bread with salmon, avocado and poached eggs. Yummmmmy!

My wife had the French toast which was very tasty and was happy that they used high quality ice cream.

Coffee was very good only they use thin glasses for the latte which makes holding it a bit hot.

Service was friendly.

Overall 8/10
