Review The Eagle Hotel - Bluff

A classic kiwi regional hotel with old school charm. Mix of tourists and people working in the town or on the ships. It's not 5* luxury but it's comfortable and Mike was a very relaxed and friendly host. Had my room all heated before I checked in - gave me tips to catch the sunset and let me park my car in his parking lot for my overnight trip to Stewart Island. It's a 2 min easy walk to the ferry which is handy too. No food served in the hotel but there is a bar.

I am checking out of this hotel today after a wonderful stay. This hotel is in a wonderful location within walking distance from the ferry to Stewart Island . The rooms and bathrooms are clean and comfortable and the public space is beautiful and cozy. The highlight for me is the wonderful couple who own and manage the hotel. I have travelled all over the world and never met nicer folks who ensure a wonderful stay!

We highly recommend this hotel! Pam and Mike were great, friendly hosts with lots of recommendations for the town, and Oliver the cat was a lovely addition. The rooms were very clean and tidy and we had a lovely after dinner drink in the lounge. It was very centrally located, we only had to walk across the road to the Stewart Island Ferry. We really appreciated the hospitality and warm rooms.

Looking for a place to stay before going great white shark cage diving or to Stewart Island? You've found it! Mike and Pam are such wonderful hosts, gregarious and very responsive. The beds are super comfortable too. Would easily recommend as a cozy place to stay.

What an adorable little place in Bluff! The owners are so sweet and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. We were planning to get up early for a shark dive, and the owner made sure that we would have access to an early breakfast before normal service. The rooms were comfortable and with everything we needed. Not fancy, but homey like a little cottage off the beaten path. Very easy walk to shops and restaurants. Stay here when you visit Bluff!

Highly recommended! Amazing welcome, very helpful hosts, free parking and very close to the ferry if you go to Stewart Island. Overall very good value for money. Besides our laundry was cleaned and dried for 10$ while we were on the island. Don't be put off by the old-fashioned look of the hotel, it is a very nice place to stay before or after taking the ferry to Stewart Island.

It's an older place but the staff provide excellent customer service, everything is clean and comfortable, and the breakfast had a wide variety of choices.

Lovely hotel with a comfortable lounge area. Very welcoming and informative hosts and less than 5 minutes from the ferry terminal for Stewart Island. We were also able to leave our car there over night which was very kind

I would highly recommend staying at the Foveaux Hotel while in Bluff. The owners were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area. He stayed up late to keep the bar open for us and made sure he was at the accommodation for when our other guests arrived as he thought we would be out Shark Diving. The place was old-timely and charming, and the breakfast was simple and exactly what we needed with a 6am start. They were very accommodating with allowing us to access the kitchen for breakfast and when we asked to change bedding. A lovely gem and I will be staying there again when I am in Bluff next. Sam

Great experience, great host, great service. Wish all can come and stay. With Mike and Pan's guidance, we saw the rare penguins! Thank you so much!

Nice family-run hotel in Bluff. Michael and Pam are very accommodating hosts. They made sure we feel comfortable and gave us some very helpful tips where to go too! The place is so convenient to stay if you’re in Bluff. It’s walking distance to the ferry terminal and Stirling Point (and the look out too, if you’re up for it). There is a local fish and chips shop next door, and a grocery shop just a few steps away. The mural painting just by the entrance of the hotel adds a bit of nostalgia. The lounge is spacious and they have a selection of drinks at the bar. You can watch TV and Netflix or just chill. They have books and magazines as well. 📚 We had a restful night and continental breakfast was ready when we woke up in the morning. Very thoughtful of Pam! ❤️ Highly recommended!

Pam and Mike were so accommodating, even from before arriving. Pam had awesome suggestions about TA medals and Mike was great with resturant knowledge. The rooms were warm and clean, and there was a round the clock tea station set up in the breakfast area. Will definitely visit again.

We stayed at the Foveaux last month (Jan 2022). We had the queen suite with an ensuite. It wasn't the usual queen size but it was fine for two people. It did not have the coffee facilities however we had access to the kitchen to make ourselves a coffee or cuppa at any time. The TV reception wasn't great but that didn't bother us as we could watch TV on the big screen in the main lounge if we wanted to. The owner was a very nice and wonderful host who looked after us rfeally well. We enjoyed a very nice continental breakfast before we departed. We would definitely recommend this hotel and especially our host.

We loved this Hotel, was a bit like stepping back in time. The hosts were fantastic and showed southern hospitality at its best. Dinner was fabulous and we would highly recommend this place to anyone going to Bluff Murray and Sheryl

Stayed just the one night after a long drive down before heading over to Stewart Island. The hosts Mike and Pam couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating, or the hotel more charming and comfortable. Thoroughly recommended 😊
