Review La Tropezienne - Browns Bay

Dragana Yelavich
I was married in May. My husband is French, so we decided to have a croquembouche as one of our wedding cakes. It was absolutely fantastic. It not only looked amazing but tasted amazing as well. It went down a treat with the guests. Merci beaucoup!

They have a great selection of pastries and breakfast items. I bought 2 different kinds of croissants (Bacon & Egg and Salmon) and I loved them so much! They served great coffee too! Definitely worth a visit!
MJ Checksfield
It's a real piece of France with genuine French speaking owners and bakers. Sometimes I wonder if the croissants and patisserie really need to cost that much, but they are the real thing. Otherwise it's fairly priced and decent value, if at times a little overrun at the weekends. Go as early as you dare for a better weekend experience, it opens at 0700am.

Nice little place with nice French vibe. Coffee and food are great. Bit crowded but services is soo good. Like the music and French atmosphere. Really recommend the place.
Cecille Gasgonia (Ceci)
Good mocha, bit popular so can be busy but they have a great selection of pastries and savouries. Food (and coffee) could be served warmer but that might be a preference. Sweets > savoury imo

Tres Magnifique! Incredible food and cakes and bread.and fab coffee. Great ambience ... 10am cafe nearly full. A little difficult to get a carpark...however next time...I will bring laundry to wash or dry next door and use the laundromat carparking at the rear! Dreaming about our next visit. Thankyou all for bringing a little of France to Auckland ❤

Good food, nice place.

Always nice food here. Even though I have no luck to get smoked salmon baguette sandwich last four visits 😆 Here is the only one to find filtered coffee that is good when you don’t feel like espresso coffee.

After 6 years and a month of lock downs I finally got the chance to try my favorite French Pastry Shop. It was unfortunate they were out of my favorite almond croissants. I decided to try their bacon and eggs croissant and a couple of regular croissants. Everything was pretty good and satisfying. And I finally got my Cappuccino fix after a month... Support you local 😀

Tucked away just behind the main road with its own car park area is this great French bakery / Cafe. So much yummy cakes desserts sweets to choose from. Also a good selection of savoury items like quiches croissants and more. A nice selection of fresh baked bread as well. Lots of indoor seating and also a good amount of outdoor seating.

SO GOOD!friendly staffs and good environment, recently the best mocha I had. We ordered mushroom toast and omelette, yummy! 5 start recommend :)
Eddie Peel (Ed)
Just dropped in for coffee and Pain au Raisin. Both delicious. Sat outside. Plenty of space, plenty of seats and tables. About 10 tables outside. About 7 of the tables for 4 people. 3 large tables seat probably 10 people per table. More seating inside.

Omg I'm speechless because sooooooooo good I don’t like desert but this bakery desert soooo yummm 😭😭😭😭😭😭 so soft with creamy i can’t explain if you going to browns bay you have to go this lovely bakery

Nice French cafe👍🏽The praline mousseline cream in the Paris Brest is perfect 🤩
Rob
Absolutely love it. Fantastic breakfast and the best cabinet choices on the Shore.

My favorite French restaurant in town, good food with amazing price. I know many French friends been here regular. Would recommend to anybody.

It sounds almost too good to be true, but this little cafe boasts awesome coffee, the best quality food, and all this at the most reasonable prices. Throw in friendly, helpful staff as well, and WOW!! Found my new favourite!!
Caitlin Kelly
So delicios and so many great treats. My partner is from holland and been to france and says it reminds him of the cafes back there. Portion sizes for the hot cooked food is a little small but delicious

When I’m inside this cafe, I feel like I’m in Europe. I haven’t been to Europe btw. It just feels so comfortable and home-like. It’s a local business and has a history. Everything feels genuine.<br/><br/>Perfect place to have breakfast after taking a morning stroll in browns bay beach. <br/><br/>The staff are lovely are always friendly and welcoming. I don’t even have to say anything about food — it’s perfect. <br/><br/>I hope this cafe lives and thrives for 200 years !
Asianfoodie
A cosy and warm place that is suitable for a Sunday brunch! Tried the beef lasagne, a creamy chicken dish with a vienna coffee.<br/>I would strongly recommend the creamy chicken because it has a soft and creamy texture to it with good flavour.<br/><br/>Strongly recommend the coffee here because I, as a person who does not drink coffee regularly, finished my whole cup!
Vanessa Short
French cafe , I love all the individual food they make in pots, great to takeaway , extremely reasonable ,coffee nice and staff , lots of items on walls to look at, will definitely return again, ps pies were full of good pieces of beef.

Heavenly taste of almond crossant made my day full of happiness. La Tropezienne is real small France. I expected to have a piece of bread but ate so much. My favourite! Firstly we bought pie and sandwich that inside the pie had full of beef, lemon and salmon sandwich was very fresh. Once we had the taste, dont want to miss the others ;)
Ellie
Love, love, love the French music that they play through the speaker! Their classically French decorations just contribute perfectly to the atmosphere. Can’t go wrong with coming here!!
Annie Tong
Hands down the best French pastries around, with a relaxed bakery vibe and surprisingly good coffee too! We each bought a few selections to share and have a massive picnic, took it on the go to the beach and ate it on the sun!

The Vienna cafe was lovely - right amount of cream and coffee was strong however the soy latte was awful - tasted like diluted soy with a hint of coffee. In regards to the pastries, I truly hope this is not a representation of French pastries. <br/>

Normally love this place & would rate it a 5 because of the tasty pastries.<br/><br/>But damn, I don’t know if one waitress (blonde & in 40’s) was racist to me or simply rude? For two visits she refused to make eye contact, smile, and did not want to give me a box even though I bought several pastries. She also rolled her eyes when I took too long to choose.<br/><br/>Every other cashier/waiter is really nice.
Lucykim0626
Enjoyed the Trpezienne slice and coffee on our first visit. Also friendly staff on that day. so I have revisited but his time, we were really disappointed in overall.<br/>The staff (lady at the counter) had no smile, does not know how to say thank you nor please. Unpleasant to deal with. <br/>Bread, the baguette was just ordinary. Not much difference from the one you can buy from super market. Smoked Salmon baguette was too salty and bread was too dry.
Nicola Bailey
Love their coffee!!! Although take away you might burn your mouth and have to wait 10 minutes for it to cool down as it is VERY hot. <br/><br/>Got a croissant the other day and oh my god, it was the best darn thing I’ve had in a long time 😍😍
Monica Jane
My favourite place for brunch in Browns Bay! They have lots od options and all tastes very good! The atmosphere is just right, no matter if it's raining or when the sun is out. To conclude: High quality food with affordable price ❤
SJ
French toast is my go-to here. Fresh croissants available with ham and cheese or scrambled eggs. Chocolate milkshake is a hit. Fun friendly staff.

This is a great place to eat cheap amd cheerful, it is very expensive to have breakfast in NZ and especially Auckland... this place gives good options, prices are sensible and the dish sizes are sufficient, I wish more cafes will follow

I'm really upset to write this review because I usually have a great experience here! However last weekend my friends and I went to brunch and it was subpar! My boyfriend's food didn't show up and the rest of us had finished eating and other tables that had sat down after us got their food before he did (he only got wedges so a much quicker dish to prepare than eggs bene for example) and I had to ask the staff about it and ask they put them in a takeaway container! the salads we had were very oily and weren't particularly appetising. I also asked for poached eggs and the yolk was completely cooked! I've had good experiences here before but recently has been less than desirable!

Authentic pastries and lovely jazzy vibe. Just like Paris. Great customer service and shout out to waiter with cool Cookie Monster shirt of The Scream.<br/><br/>Although the French are notorious for surrendering themselves it seems this cafe will stand strong in the heart of the shore. Oui oui 🥖

<br/>Over the past ten years we have had many breads, pastries, tarts, cakes and eclairs (and the occasional brunch) from La Tropezienne, a very popular Browns Bay institution. A couple of days ago we decided to try them again for brunch. As always the place was very busy and buzzing with people coming and going, for pastries and coffees, as well as breakfast/lunches. Although there was an extensive range of filled rolls, croissants, quiches and other cabinet food for heating we ordered from the blackboard menu - typical French fare: French omelette (with cheese) and Croque Madam. The Croque (toasted ham & cheese sandwich) was absolutely superb, with two huge pieces of brioche bread, succulent ham, and wonderful cheeses and egg on top. The omelette was filled with tasty cheeses, with generous slices of toasted brioche on the side. Both dishes were accompanied by fresh green salad and sliced tomatoes. The service was very efficient and prompt, especially as the cafe was full. We also took home a Pear Danish and Tropezienne slice to savour later (both proved up to the expected standard of excellence). Overall very tasty, very French food at a very reasonable price - and very popular!

Had a very disappointing morning, had to wait 30mins for a drink to come out. I had to remind them again before they actually started making it. I understand Sunday morning is usually the busiest time of the week, but the manner of the owner was very rude. When i asked him why it took so long, his only response was "look i forgot, i am not a superman, i am not a robot" and did not even let me complete my sentence before he walked away. That is not a good excuse and I found this not very professional of him to treat a customer that had been waiting a long time for a single drink to come out. I understand cafe could be busy and could be held up by the service but this is the last response i would like to get and if its especially that they had 'forgotten' about the order.
Ivan
a fabulous place to go! especially big breakfast, different from anywhere else. very French style and chunky fries are so great!~~ hard to find parking at weekend
Jessica
If I'm ever in the bays area I always like coming here to get my lunch or a sweet snack to takeaway. My personal favourites are the éclairs omg sooo good! They get very busy in the weekends so you'll be lucky to get a seat but no harm in taking some food away and eating it by the beach just down the road.

Ahh Browns Bay you never seize to amaze me. Glorious weather, scenic beach, tranquil vibe, and filled with culinary delights. <br/><br/>La Tropezienne is just a fabulous French cafe with an array of beautifully crafted tarts, cakes, and breads that greet you as you enter for a busy Sunday brunch.<br/><br/>These types of places are dangerous for me as I make decisions based on my eyes rather than my brain. Having successfully stimulated my eyes, I ordered 2 Cream doughnuts, a Mille feuillie, Brioche covered in sugar and a baguette. <br/><br/>A good amount if for two, a little ambitious for one.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Mille Feuillie was divine. The cream doughnuts were good however I've had better *cough* Little and Friday *cough*<br/><br/>Overall Grade: B+

Taste: The food tastes exactly as you would expect. Consistency of the baking is a bit off, but taste good.<br/><br/>Price: Extremely cheap for what you get at a cafe.<br/><br/>Environment: Well set up outside sitting area. However most tables have the "wobbly syndrome" where they arent balanced. Tables inside are too close together that theres no room for people to squeeze past. Birds everywhere which concerns me in regards to hygiene. (Don't leave your food unattended, seen people not realise a bird has pecked all over the food)<br/><br/>Service: Friendly staff all around and helpful.<br/><br/>Coffee: Black coffees are good with the nice smoky chocolately taste. But white coffees are a no go as they make it quite bland.<br/><br/>Not rushing to return back to this place, but somehow i end up returning back

I've changed my review of this place. Many years ago it was great, now the food is overpriced and some of the items are good, but most aren't sweet enough for desserts. I ordered a vanilla cake from here and the outside was completely burnt. The coffees and hot chocolates are still good.

Honestly one of my favourite cafes! Their baking is amazing with a wide range to pick from. Always a treat when in Browns Bay. Also great customer service :)))
Karin Menon
I used to like this place because of the diversity of customers hanging around. However, My friends and I do boycott this place since the owner has been featured in North Shore times due to the poisoning of birds around his cafe. While he denied having done it, he congratulated the bird killer. There is no tolerance for cruelty towards animals in my circle of friends, thus, we will not spend our money in this cafe.

■ Good Vibe<br/>■ Great selection<br/>■ French delicacies<br/><br/>■ Busy, busy busy<br/><br/>A touch of France in Browns Bay! This is an adorable French Bakery that's very popular among the locals as it serves a full selection of authentic breads, gateauxs, pastries and so much more. I love how simple and casual items you'd find in an average bakery are served to utmost fresh quality here. Im a big fan of their Chocolate Eclaires- they have an amazing mousse like filling!! They've also got these double profiterole things with a beautiful coffee flavoured pastry creme. They have really soft and flakey coatings that melt in your mouth.<br/><br/>The staff here are friendly and are roaming around happy to help you make suggestions to suit your tastes. Overall it's a cute place to pop in on a Saturday morning and is filled with french music, fresh food and just puts you in a really nice mood after!! What more can you ask for 😌😌

This French bakery is well-known in Browns Bay and is always packed. We always buy their rye and walnut bread. They have a great selection and it's all made fresh. From their cafe menu I really enjoy their baguette sandwiches, simple and fresh ingredients make for a delicious lunch. Also their tarts are very good too. My favorite is the pear tart. A lot of their other sweets are a bit too sweet for my liking but other than that very good quality. I have tried a few other things on their menu but they have been a bit hit and miss. Also I'm not a big coffee drinker but I ordered a flat white, a hot chocolate and a cappuccino with some friends the other day and we were all disappointed with our drinks. My hot chocolate was watery and lacked any creamy froth or chocolaty taste. I was surprised to get such low quality drinks but they were busy at the time so that might have been reason.

I can only imagine if I was in France this is what the pastries would be like!! The most delicious sweets, my favourite being the custard beignets and Lemon tarts!! Everything I have tried (sweets only) is Devine. Raspberry and vanilla milles yum yum yum
Scott
◻Strong coffee<br/>◻Top baking<br/>◻Good service<br/><br/>God the baking is good, its not healthy, its full of butter and sugar!! If your a anti sugar nazi dont go.<br/><br/>Service is always cheerful and well french ☺<br/><br/>The coffees are strong, really strong, reminisant of 90's coffee, but its good, its what you will get in most of europe.<br/><br/>The only reason its not a 5, is sometimes the baking is on the burnt side...but still charging full price. Thats a bit cheeky and would not happen at takapuna.<br/><br/>But all in all its a great cafe!
Eva
I've been here recently and yes food and sweets are high quality but very disappointed with the customer service...I was served by very rude and unhappy blond haired women, she just spoiled my whole morning...
Raspberry Beret
Always busy and not hard to understand why.  The coffee is excellent, the food is outstanding, the prices are reasonable, the service is a little ... French.  Yes, not the happiest or most polite people on the planet but know how to fill a baguette.
Thegreeats
Lovely baked goods- savoury and sweet!<br/>Wish the place was a bit cleaner their interior is getting old<br/>But treats here are so much cheaper !<br/>With this quality and size foods it'll be much expensive elsewhere<br/>I love their opera cake and brioche it's delicious
Gloria
Good food and good price, no wonder this place is popular in Browns Bay. Chicken Lasagne is creamy which I really enjoyed!! And my friend's fav is beef pie. We had a nice meal at La Tropezienne. Will come again soon!

Fantastic croissants, cakes and sandwiches are always available here. Coffee is little burnt for my liking but a great venue. Frienly staff and worth a try

La Tropezienne is a truly authentic French cafe. The staff were French and had attentive customer service taking extra pleasure in my attempts to pronounce the names for some of the pastries. The ambience was lovely with Parisian paintings and music engulfing the store. I ordered the Apricot Danish and Cherry Tartlet and they were perfect. The pastry was so flaky, golden and buttery. With balanced amount of filling. The highlighted the simple fruit flavours and textures. They're relatively priced and are a great spot for a coffee date. I will definitely order some food the next time I'm nearby.
Mr.G (OFFICIAL)
I paid just $9.90 for their "eggs on toast" however it was more like a large fancy gourmet breakfast one would expect from a 6 star restaurant run by the world's best chef. The place was bustling with energy and people enjoying the sun on a saterday morning and my meal was placed in front of me by their happy smiling staff in well under 5 minutes. I rate this place 10 out of 5.
Ronald Tan
Great dessert place. Our favorite French pastry. The blueberry and raspberry tartlet is the best in town. Always recommended. Also the Browns bay is the better one.
Lena Duffin
I have mixed feelings about La Tropezienne. I have been coming here for years and years, and think fondly about it, but at the same time - it hasn't changed at all. Even the sandwiches have been the same the entire time. There's two sides to this - don't mess with something that's not broken, but on the other side, change is a good thing. To have entirely the same stuff for the better part of a decade seems kinda stale to me. The food is all nice, don't get me wrong, but I've been coming less often in more recent times, in search of some variety.<br/><br/>My favourite menu items are the blueberry tarts, they are so delicious. Their sweet food is definitely better than the savoury. The coffee is decent, but nothing to write home about really.
Orca1
Beautiful range of food, friendly customer service, nice pipping hot drinks, Very reasonably priced. The desserts/pastries are to die for. Plenty of parking. Can't go wrong with this place, will definitely return
Brazilian Cafe
Our favorite place close to home! Always nice customer service, food. Our favorite beignet with a delicious heavenly cream mmmm absolutely divine! We love you guys!!
WeiTing Ashley Shyu
It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to bakery food. The milles fuelles custard slice is perfectly balanced and leaves you feeling happy. Their desserts have this effect not you - sugary treats that make you go "mmmmmmmm"! The coffee religiouse eclair is absolutely delicious. My partners mum absolutely loved it too. <br/><br/>I always take my friends here because of the top notch quality and the range of foods available. I took a half a star off due to the prices rising over the years. I am a regular - I understand that with the economy, rising prices everywhere is the norm... But it's still sad to see.
Zena Cataleya
Had a raspberry mille feuille which was nice but it was mostly made up of cream and it was slight hard to cut into with a fork.  The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was nice. Came back later to have a pomegranate tea to warm up, for the $3.50 It was really worth it.

Eat like Royalty at La Tropezienne!<br/><br/>The flavour of French food fascinates the palate. You can sum up the entire French attitude to food by saying that the French like to enjoy their meals!<br/><br/>French cuisine takes real skill and all meals are prepared carefully and often very slowly to bring out the real flavours and authentic taste of how the dish or food is meant to taste. In fact anyone who has been to France knows that the French are passionate when it comes to love, their culture and food. All three things are taken very seriously. To experience that kind of passion you simply have to taste French cuisine.<br/><br/>At the fabulous French Bakery – La Tropezienne in Browns Bay – they have an extremely wide variety for you to choose from. Amazing tarts topped with mouth-watering fresh fruits, gourmet dishes with herbs and are range of filled French sticks or walnut rye loafs. La Tropezienne is simply enjoyment for all in a truly French environment.<br/><br/>French cuisine is typically made with rich sauces using butter, cream and always fresh ingredients. They have their own secret recipes to bring this all together in lots of different tasty treats.<br/><br/>Meals like Croque Monsieur and Beef Bourguignon are also on offer here at La Tropezienne.<br/><br/>An interesting fact you may not know is that in France the best chefs used to work for kings and queens and once the French revolution came they were out of business. They quickly found a way to make a living by opening their own restaurants and creating exquisite meals that were once prepared for royalty but then available for all to enjoy. Now French chefs are well known for preparing delicious meals that will make you feel like royalty.<br/><br/>So feel that way today and go and experience La Tropezienne for yourself. It's a little bit of France right here in Browns Bay.<br/><br/>Looking forward to Easter? The hot cross buns here La Tropezienne French Bakery are handmade and based on an old English hot cross bun recipe.<br/><br/>"Our hot cross buns are devine," says team member Henry Rovette. "There are no pre-mixes used here, these buns are crafted by our bakers and will be available from March 9th."<br/><br/>Make sure you come on down and enjoy some of this amazing French cuisine. If you haven't experienced La Tropezienne, then you don't know what you missing. Pop in and see Louis and his team at Clyde Court, Browns Bay. Phone 478 8798. Also at Milford and Takapuna.<br/><br/>By Angela Johnson, See the Browns Bay Magazine <br/>Angela Johnson Ray White Browns Bay  angela.johnson@raywhite.com

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I am a local in Browns Bay and I cannot help coming here everytime I want a coffee or a quick lunch, Really tasty french food. Everything looks delicious and it actually is. Bakery, desserts, lucnhes, sandwiches...anything you want. Lots of small dishes for lunch options that remind me of home
Vivien @ KJAS Blog
Well- loved and highly recommended by locals, I was really delighted by my visit today. They have two sections: one with dessert treats, the other has all the savouries and pastries and coffee. You pay separately at each place. <br/><br/>The lemon tartlette dessert was very tangy lemon with a slightly crystallised surface, although the tartlette case itself was far too soft for my liking, as if it had been in the cabinet for a while. It may well have been. It was fine, and the price reasonable compared to a lot of Central Auckland establishments, but I wouldn't call it a standout specialty of theirs.<br/><br/>The custard beignet, also pictured, seemed more well-loved, and my friend recommended the chocolate religieuse. I could spy others' dishes, and they looked very soft. I was also tempted by the pain au chocolat, which were flaky and oozing chocolate.<br/><br/>I personally enjoy savoury pastries more, and loved the large selection they had of those too. I opted for the last bacon and egg croissant, and the chicken and leek pie my friend had looked quite good too. it's cabinet food, but apparently they make it all on their own (just ask for the bathroom and you'll be directed to walk through the kitchen to see for yourself), and they make it warmer in the microwave. I wish they made it much hotter, or enquired if one wanted it hot or just warm, because things like pies and filled croissants taste much better piping hot in my opinion, especially because it was a rather chilly day.<br/><br/>Because the pastries had probably been there for a while, it was all very tough and not fresh-tasting. However, I could tell they had been expertly made, with the egg especially tasty, and were merely suffering from standing too long.<br/><br/>The pie pastry didn't look very flaky and layered, but the filling inside is sizeable and smelled delicious.<br/><br/>The coffee is very good and not too bad on the pricing, with an option to have it in a cup or in a large bowl. I definitely opted for the cup, but if you're in the need of a massive caffeine hit...you can come here and get a large bowl of coffee? The mocha was well made and piping hot, with lots of foam and a madeleine-shaped meringue-like hard-marshmallow-thing floating in it. I've never seen one of those before, but it was very pretty!<br/><br/>The service is impeccable, and the proximity to the beach makes this a good visit if you're in the area.
Mary Underwood
What a selection of authentic french treats..feels very authentic. You could spend forever trying to decide what to have. Settled on the almond tart. Enjoyed my mocha while french euro pop belted out the speakers.
Cupy Dee
Great authentic French food without costing you an arm and a leg. Loved their chicken pesto baguette, the pies and the quiche! Not to mention their cabinet full of dessert goodies. Have to be in early though as most of the good stuffs go quickly. All these years, still our favourite north shore cafe!
Denise Poole
Absolutely love the food here and it's been a regular Browns Bay hangout for our family, but last time we went there - a week ago - one 30+ blonde waitress was incredibly rude to the point we won't return while she's there. Such a shame, she really brought the normally very friendly tone down. Brushed past me, nearly knocking me over, without saying a word, very sour faced and looked down her nose at us every opportunity she got. Hopefully it was just 1 bad day and atypical.
Mmmfood
This is the best place in Auckland to get authentic French croissants and a variety of other baking products and cakes. The coffee is great, too. This place is hugely popular so be prepared for a bustling cafe on weekend days.
Michelle Vandenberg
Perfection!!! The most beautiful pastries I ever had, here or overseas. Displayed to tantalise, wonderful atmosphere where you can here the chefs enjoying there work. It's the real deal. Genuine French coffee and definitely service with lots of smiles. A very very popular place to meet.
Eli
Loved the deserts especially the tropezzienne slice. The cafe style was nice. The food is also good in quality and price.
Leah Hughes
Great coffee and food on previous visits, but it's doggy day care on weekends. I'm not opposed to dogs being there just don't like drinking unknown pet hair.... Sure that isn't French !?! Not a very romantic French breakfast experience.
Linda Masley
We just discovered this cafe 2 days ago and have been there 3 times already! Beautiful pastries and coffee, and very reasonably priced.
@KeraBearEats
I love coming to this cafe! The food is delicious and inexpensive. I always come here when I'm super hungry because I get great quality food for a great price. I love that I can serve myself as well. My favourite item is the bacon and egg croissants, the egg and bacon are always plentiful, and I love that rock salt on the top, yum!! The staff are very nice too; I'm always served by a young man with a nice haircut and he's always really lovely and pleasant to deal with. Also, I love that La Tropezienne serves Harney &amp; Sons tea!!! I always grab the cinnamon flavour :)<br/><br/>The only problem I have with this cafe is that I wish it were a bit bigger. When I sit in the middle of the cafe I feel I am too close to other people, but I won't penalise this cafe for a star because they are still way too awesome!
Natalie Hess
Had a coffee here and it was so bitter that I had to put at least five sugars in to make the drink bearable but my partners mocha was slightly more drinkable, the apricot danish was disappointing, 2 half dried apricots in it with a bit hole in the middle, not up for the money we paid for it. Will not be returning unless the coffee gets better.
Denise Crossland
Hello to La Tropezienne. I wish you would open a shop on Hibiscus Coast (Orewa or Whangaparaoa). Really do miss the European pastries and get tired of all the mass produced stuff around. Hope you will consider this. thanks
Valda Larkins
I have been going to the French Cafe for the past 15 years and just love the food there.Louie is always happy go lucky. The food is great as i love pastries and as for the cakes...well what can you say.My favourite tho is the walnut loaf.the coffee is great and quite often buy the coffee grounds to take home. Only problem is...its always packed.
Edith Heyns
Love the food. noticed this morning that the barista, albeit a very nice young man, was wearing a sleeveless shirt. I am not interested in armpits when I am trying to eat or enjoy a good coffee. Where are those health inspectors when you need them? Doesn't the manager know that hair tends to end up in food?
Felix
Coming here for 20 years and the quality is always consistent. A good place, well managed.
Isaac Valach
The staff use to be great here. Popped in on Sunday walked passed 3 staff members as we walked in not even a hello or anything waited several minutes but the staff had other things to do even though the palce had 3 people already eating in the cafe. Your customer service must be addressed or customers like me will walk out
Marnie
Aaaaah, my new coffee place, love it, love it, love it. And the salmon ficelle, brilliant :-). The staff are so friendly and smile as they go by. It can get a little crowded, but negotiating the corners is part of the charm. Love sitting outside and watching the world go by. Keep up the good work.
Pedro Brash
Been coming here on and off for years! Genuine and authentic. We mainly go for brunch as we have our dog with us and just mould ourselves into one of the outside tables and watch the world go by. You MUST try the salmon quiche - huge slices and not expensive ($5). The pastries are fresh (have never noticed a lapse in quality over the years) and coffee hot and flavoursome (I HATE getting lukewarm coffee). Beautiful french music always playing.<br/><br/>It really is THE place to go on a balmy Sunday morning. Yes - It does get very busy, but if you can put that issue aside and get a good place to sit, you'll enjoy every minute here.
Hefestion
I'm a Barista and I had my second best coffee ever at La Tropezienne. The croissant was also great!! It was last week though.<br/><br/>My coffee was done by a tall conversationalist young looking Barista.<br/><br/>The letdown was the rest of the staff. Hopeless!! Never smiled, not even a 'hi'. <br/><br/>I know that it is quite exhausting working under pressure and a backlog, however customer service comes first!<br/><br/>The only thing missing at the cafe is a better touch of management...
Sandra
Love the place and the atmosphere. Food good and a variety to cater for young and old. <br/><br/>If you have a sweet tooth, it is the place to visit. <br/><br/>Only negative is the occasional over done coffee or food not as well heated as i would like. But these are rare occasions and always fixed by staff<br/><br/>The staff are friendly and nice. A good way for me to practice my terrible french ;)
Alex
Nice little place for a coffee. Hard to manouver around the counters with little space though. The french stick sandwhiches are so yummy and I love the chocolate eclairs. It's a shame that the savoury food is alway gone by about 1pm with the lunch rush. You would think that given they run out every day so early they would make more.........
Hanna
It must be a great cafe, but it's a disastrous bakery.<br/><br/>Huge disappointment ... twice. And for the very last time, I can reassure you. <br/><br/>Two and a half years ago we ordered a birthday cake for my then 3 year-old daughter. We wanted some very average (by NZ standards at least) edible sugar figurines on it (horses). Instead of admitting that they are not experienced in this field we ended up having PLASTIC TOY horses pushed into the cream.<br/><br/>We waited two and a half years and then we gave them another chance...Wanted a nice but in fact simple European cake, the so called Dobos cake. For this one the caramelized, crunchy top gives its real unique appearance. Instead we got a chewy cake with rather hard sponge-like layers and a dipping top with honey taste. It's a disaster. They should admit if they are not experienced in some fields of their profession, that would be fine and respected. But to pretend to be experts and take up any order without a clue how to properly make it, is an assault on good taste.

Great coffee, superb pastries, croissant and cakes. Very French. Highly recommended.

Sunday breakfast for us tends to involve a stroll to La Tropezienne. Amazing food and helpful staff.

I totally agree with you regarding the quality and ambiance of the restaurant . We and friends are regular visitors. There is however a huge problem which I want to bring under the attention of visitors. One of the co-owners is a rude and arrogant person and it is sad because the personnel are friendly fast and efficient. Be prepared to be confronted by this man should you have a complaint , request or suggestion.

I can only agree with all what is written here, it is a real taste of France. I am from Germany and I enjoy to be sometimes a little bit in Europe :-)
