Rushed down to get coffee and cake before they closed after savouring the same this morning. You won't be disappointed visiting this cafe.

Very unusual to find such a authentic French experience in small town New Zealand, but it rates up there with the best in the country. Very well priced for very generous portions of amazingly flavoured food. Great service as well is the final piece of an incredible puzzle.

Great food and service. Welcomed to this lovely French cafe. Food is fresh and tasty. A very nice first experience. I will definitely return here. Nice music and not noisy. Hard to come by these days ! Thank you :-)

I have just savoured one of the best and freshest pain au raisin pasties ever! As a retired trained baker confectioner, when you find such exquisite goods you really appreciate them. I shall be returning for lunch on frequent occasions as the menu looks amazing. Thank you and merci

Great service, made our drinks exactly how we asked. Beautifully crafted pastries and cakes with real flavour. Certainly not your carbon copy bakery.

Really good food. The owner is chatty and interesting. All the baking is made here, sometimes its not as perfect in shape and form but always tastes above the norm.

The most authentic French food (and wine, and cidre!) I've experienced anywhere outside of France. A true French host greets you and takes your order, and presents you with amazing beef bourguignon pie, filled croissants, puddings, or le plat du jour. A special place to eat!
Glenn Miers
Fantastic food and wonderful service. More authentic than Paris itself! A true taste of French cuisine without the nonsense!

Four of us went for brunch. Two of us had the Beef bourguignon pie. It was amazing - beef was tender, full of flavour and cooked with love. Although more liquid inside that expected, the supplied spoon allowed us to finish it off easily. Highly recommended for brunch. The pastry from the cabinet was delicious.

When it's open - the food is fabulous. The owner - well, maybe he's not eating enough of his delicious food. He seems particularly rude and grumpy to staff and sometimes customers too. It's not conducive to wanting to be there.

BEST cafe in Wairarapa!
Beautiful Food, beautiful place!
We dropped by this gorgeous place and after experiencing the incredible food (try the pastries- all of them! And French onion soup), coffee, service and environment we feel this is the BEST cafe in the Wairarapa, but don't take my word for it- go try it out for yourselves ;)

Had a birthday lunch for my 88 year old mother - had booked earlier and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely table by the window dressed with tablecloth and flowers. The food was gorgeous and the desserts heavenly. Even came away with free treats from the bakery. Great service and a charming host. Would definitely come again.

Lovely hidden secret in Carterton. Truly authentic French, with the best pastries outside of France. Loved our visit to this little treasure in small town New Zealand

Mirabelles is a good restaurant - an important part to Wairarapa's food scene. Without it the area would be much diminished. Unlike anywhere else significant in the Wairarapa, Mirabelles is based upon French Bistro cuisine. As such, and like French bistro in general, Mirabelles is not perfect, but it is very good. It has a lovely warm, slightly quirky atmosphere, a Maitre'd (and cook's husband) perfect for the job, it is perfectly cosy in the evening and it is probably a good idea to book.
Ive been perhaps five or six times and each time thought that the food isn't perfect, its not attempting to be, but is good French-based cooking that is comforting, honest and homely. Its not fussy, overworked or pretentious - just good food.
I remember some wines - French oddities recommended by the Maitre'd that were entirely appropriate, I remember his daughters who served - with beautiful names, and I remember his wife, the cook, very occasionally visible through the kitchen door on whose skill Mirabelle's relies.
This is a good restaurant and Carterton is lucky to have it.

Superb! Haven't had a meal this beautifully French since France! Wow. Loved the rilletes (de canard), confit duck and gâteau au chocolat! Mocha was beautiful, water was cool and crisp, service was great too. Wow!

If your the type of person who is badly upset if the forks and spoons don't match, the chairs are not all identical or having different plates then you will struggle.

If instead you about the food, atmosphere and a place where you get real enjoyment from a host that has personality, a chef with passion and excellent coffee that is hot, deserts that are stunning and a flamboiement experience you will enjoy.

The Cassole is excellent, as is the beef bourguignon and pate's.

Even if your not a french food lover this is an excellent place as the European cuisine excels, but may make you very critical of other cafes who fail to measure up.

C'est tres magnifique! This café is a wee gem!
The food is sublime and the coffee is delicious. I love the funky décor of retro mirrors which adorn the walls. The chef is a Frenchman who makes food to die for. This is a hugely popular, busy little place and no wonder. Top marks!

By far the best café in the Wairarapa.

We have been 3 times for dinner and the food and service has been excellent - perhaps is it because I tend to bring French wines :)...

Seriously the lunch menu is excellent and well priced and the dinner menu is just fantastic.

The French onion soup is the best we have had in NZ.

If you want to go for dinner you must book - generally 3-4 weeks in advance so if you are visiting the Wairarapa book well in advance to eat here - forget Greytown and Martinborough.

My only complaint - they are not open for dinner more regularly.

Superb. Or as the French say.....Superb!
Unpretentious inviting surroundings with enough quirkiness to amuse, incredibly warm staff and most importantly, food from a place of love.
We started scheming to bring a group of friends over the Rimutakas to share this satisfying experience.

The price guide though is way off the actual process. The range was either $18 or $37... But worth every morsels cent.

My only piece of advice is:GO!

If I had encountered this little bistro on a Parisian street corner I would not have been surprised. From food to service and decor, it is totally authentic, with one exception - it is far better than many French restaurants that I have visited. Megan is a superb chef, she may be a Kiwi but she understands French cuisine perfectly. As to Olivier, I think he still believes he is in Paris, he as the Maitre D' imbues Mirabelle's with its atmosphere of authenticity. If you know and love France, talk to him and share memories of its sights and cuisine and you will find him a great conversationalist. Do book in advance, Mirabelle's is popular and busy, and very deservedly so.

This is a very special place for New Zealand, authentic french bistro with a great attitude and atmosphere. I have eaten here quite often since it open and Megan, Olivier and Staff are awesome. The patisserie baking of Megan's is awesome as are their blackboard items. Olivier brings a touch of Paris. Long may they reign :)

We had the most memorable night out here, and the food was really lovely.

Olivier makes it a lot of fun, and Megan's food has traditional french influence combined with local fresh produce to make something really unique. She puts her heart into it, and this shows in the result.

There is a lovely ambiance here, a little piece of France in Carterton

Such a wonderful cafe and a great treat to visit from Wellington on a lazy Saturday. We have been here often and are always greeted with a smile. Perfectly cooked fresh homemade french food and very generous portions. The service here is outstanding and while the cabinet and blackboard offer french food to die for they will be just as happy to have you order off the menu which makes this place extra special. Top tip: Call ahead or drop in to make a booking as it can get VERY busy. a hidden gem on the main road of Carterton!!!

We have celebrated so many special occasions here - important birthdays with small and big groups, welcoming home family from overseas, romantic dinners for two etc etc. Cafe Mirabelle never fails to delight with its gorgeous authentic French ambience, Parisian maitre'd (who is the husband of the classical French-trained chef),and consistently superb food. The food is inspiring, beautifully presented, and always tastes incredible.

Cafe Mirabelle is great. It is small, and the decor, furniture and cutlery are not fancy. The food is marvellous, and made at the cafe, and the atmosphere is wonderful. French jazz music plays quietly behind animated conversations throughout the cafe, punctuated by expressions of delight at the exquisite taste and textures of the dishes one is served.
Anna Halliday
I love Cafe Mirabelle! The food, service and atmosphere are fabulously French. Their cakes and pastries are to die for, and intimate evening dining on Fridays and Saturdays comes complete with a hand-written menu.
